You guys have to leave. >> You guys come here every day. You can You're not welcome here. >> This is my property. >> Hey, listen to me. >> No, no, I don't have to listen to you. You do have to listen to No, I don't have to listen to you. >> I'll put you in handcuffs. I don't have to All right, turn. I'll put you in powered off the the room y'all last night. Had no lights, no no uh refrigerator. All his stuff went bad. >> Some landlords believe their power is unshakable, treating tenants as if they're beneath them. But what happens when an entitled landlord's bullying behavior pushes too far and their actions finally land them behind bars? >> Handcuff. All right, turn. I'll put your hand cuz you're not going to put this in your pocket. >> Put your hands behind your back for me. Why am I put my hand? >> I'm the landlord. This is the landlord. This is the landlord. >> Here are times when entitled landlords get arrested for bullying tenants. Meet Mr. Lee, an unhinged landlord who thought he had the right to enter his tenants home without permission. >> Then he he falls on the floor. >> Fell over. >> He falls on the floor with his camera saying, "Oh, they just hit me. >> Fix the toilet. Make it liveable. No excuse for no payment." >> On June the 24th, 2023, officers were sent to a residence after receiving reports of a furious landlord, Mr. Lee, who forcibly entered the home and locked himself inside. Upon arrival, they were faced with the aftermath of a troublesome situation, and the only task was to prevent things from escalating any further. >> Whose house is this? >> He's the property owner. I'm the tenant. >> And he's land >> and he just showed up and let himself in. We're having issues with plumbing and rent and water, >> 24-hour notice or anything. >> And he's been texting me and calling me and harassing me for days. >> Mr. Lee, >> he's down this hallway. >> What? >> In the bedroom. in the bedroom. >> Why don't you bedroom the door? >> Hey, M. Mr. Lee, put your hands out the out the door so I can see. >> Okay. >> Make sure you got nothing in your hands. >> Okay. Of course. I will put my phone off. >> Okay. Miss your hands. >> Okay. I risk my hand. >> Okay. Come out real quick. It's just us. They're outside. >> I I'm I'm afraid that Okay. Okay. >> Okay. Are you by yourself? >> Yeah. I'm by myself. >> Okay. >> So, I want to just so you know, you're being audio and video recorded. You can put your hands down. No, no audio. >> No, no, no. We're recording you, but body cameras on just so you know. You can put your hands down. >> Okay. So, so the issue is that tenant this day he asked me to repair the toilet all the things. Uh they don't do the payment since uh when they move in this house on May 6. The payment due is on the 5th of this month. >> June 5th. So all all 40 days notice has been. >> So why did you come here today? >> Because he said that the toilet is not repaired. So I asked the contractor to come today. Okay. So I need to make appointment with the contractor. I need to take picture. He will code and he will come. Okay. Do the repairing. And the issue is that they told me that they right now because this he insist we have inspector uh to detect that all the we have inspector do the inspection [music] at the end of the last May. And he has a official report that the house is believable and the service is normal. And this tenant insists that the bedroom need to clean, bathroom only to clean. So he refused to uh come back and so he said she lives in a hotel and she never lives here. >> There was some kind of verbal exchange between the two. >> I told him well I said you can't just come walking in here. I'm guess my [music] house. >> Yeah. Okay. >> And then he's trying to say we're here. >> Yeah. Then then he went in the bedroom, shut the door and then said they're they're blocking me in the bedroom. They're trying to kill me. >> And then you know what else he did? Then he he fall he falls on the floor. >> He fell over and tried. >> He falls on the floor with his camera saying, "Oh, they just hit me." "Oh, they just hit me." The guy is looney, man. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Trying to say you hit him and then but he pushed you at some point. >> He pushed me? Yes. And then he entered the room and tried to shut the door and I opened the door and said, "You need to leave." And then he he falls down on the floor with his phone. Oh, they just hit me. They just hit me. And this big man, like I said, if my son wouldn't be been here, I don't know what would have happened cuz the guy, I mean, just that look, he had this look like he wanted to hit me. Trust me. >> So, so as a day, I come because he asked me to repair the toilet. So, I come back come in this call you or text you to come today. So, he texted you and asked you >> he text me >> asked you to come today. Can I see that? >> Uh, I he said I cannot live in your house without my insurance. So, please send me report. very important are still plumbing issues. So I asked me to be need to be fixed. So I need more information. So I I come here to do the fix. So this is a >> Did he ask you to come today? You guys arrange this [music] time to come today or >> the the contract asked me to come to take a look and to take a picture asked you not not the tenant. >> Unbelievable. Yeah, I'm definitely getting out of this place, you know. I >> mean, I just moved in here. >> Last thing I want to do is move again. I mean, I'd only been in here what, 9 days, and this huge plumbing fiasco and we wouldn't fix the plumbing. We didn't have the water restoration people coming. There was mold growing all on backs of the bathroom. I could smell the mold. Oh, nightmare. But yeah, >> I'm definitely getting out of here now cuz this guy is lonely. >> Did they know [music] you were coming today? >> They said they don't leave here. I asked the liable. I asked the contractor to do the construction today and I called him twice. He doesn't respond. So I told him told her that it's livable, but I will ask the contract to do the toilet construction today. >> Okay. So for right now, you're just wanting him removed from the property. >> He can't legally >> he can't just barge in here. >> No. No. You have to give 24 hours notice. Like I said, it's the second time, maybe the third time he's done this. >> Get the house cleaners the key and let them come in without any consent of the line. And uh when the plumbing first happened, the property manager came, took videos, was here for hours. >> Mr. Lee did all he could to make himself the victim of his delusional story, but instead his story only highlighted how much he was losing touch [music] with reality. >> And he gave all the information to Mr. Lee and then he showed up unexpectedly again. So yes, at least three times he's done this nightmare. So uh I want a restraining order against him. >> So what happened when you got here today? >> When I got here, they took a video of me. He he said she said it is her son. So her mother is the tenant. >> I don't know why he has a son here. >> There's no there's no law in the state of Washington about all that kind of stuff. That's >> that's going to be all like civil agreement between landlord and tenant. If the landlord has certain rules, that's a civil agreement. Has nothing to do with police. So if he's here, then he's here. >> Okay. So how can I be reassured that [snorts] >> while I'm trying to now as quickly as possible, obviously I've got to have a place to go. my insurance is not going to pay indefinitely for a hotel. But this guy's looney and I you know what I I I actually sent an email to my [music] um attorney and I said I don't trust this guy. He's making me really nervous. This is before this. I said I don't put it past him to come to the house and lock me out of my own house or his house. But I sent this email literally a couple days ago. I kind of predict it because I can tell this guy's mindset >> while I'm here in Chinese grocery store and her mother uh [music] dragged me something. >> How did you get how did you get into the house then? >> Huh? >> How did you get inside the house? >> I I I used the key to come. >> So where were when you came in the house? Where were Sophia and her son? Where were they? >> They are in here and in the living room. I think I don't know. He said they they don't live here. >> They say what are you doing here? What do they say? >> They say why you are here? I said I'm here to repair the the toilet. I I was think I need to take picture to sink with the toilet transfer to repair it. >> Okay. So you thought they weren't living here. >> Yeah. They said they in hotel and I need >> When did they say that? Can you show me? >> Of course. The house is not liveable as there is no toilet usable bathroom. >> Okay. But it it doesn't it doesn't say that they're not staying here. That's what I was just looking for. So So okay. So you thought they weren't living here, [music] right? Mr. Lee M. Lee. Like he said he he's not living here. He's non-livable. >> Okay. So So non-livable doesn't mean that he's not living here. Okay. But here's >> But he he tried to kiss me. I need to lo he or she >> she hits me and he and her son locked the door and want to >> Okay, >> that [music] is okay. >> Okay. So I don't know why they're locking the door. I don't think they're I mean >> knocking the door. It's a very >> He was kind of taking you away, but I don't I I don't think they >> I don't know why they tried to lock you in. Maybe they were scared. I don't know. So, you came into the house [music] and then you saw them and they asked you, "What are you doing here?" And then you said, "I'm here." >> You are not. You said you told me you are not living here. You need a hotel. >> And he show me the hotel car. I don't know. >> And then what happened? >> And then I said, "I come to repair. I need to take picture toilet to the contractor to come to repair." >> So you went to the bathroom to take picture. >> Yes. And then what happened? And then what I went to into the bathroom >> trying to close the plastic close this one. >> But she didn't hit you. She was just trying to get you into the she hit any person. >> She didn't hit you. Hitting is like punching or hitting, right? She was just trying to pull. >> It's very You >> are you injured? Do you have any marks? >> If she lives in the hotel, she should not never come this house because it's very dangerous. He said it's notable. Why is it? >> I'm just trying to make it clear. Nobody hurt your neck. Nobody hit you. They just try to pull you in here for for whatever reason. >> I'll go ask mine now why they did that. But maybe they >> cuz when I first got here, they were saying, "Well, he doesn't just come in." >> Mr. Lee eventually left the house, but it wasn't over yet. An hour later, he returned this time armed with the most illogical argument to justify his careless actions. So when I live here, I think with my attorney, my lawyer, they said, "I have the right to repair it because my contractor is >> You do have the right to repair it, but you need to give them a notice." >> I gave them the >> I told you today it's not happening. You need to give them a 24-hour notice that you're coming. >> I I give >> I give you today it's not happening. >> I show you the text. >> Sure. >> Pull up the text. I want you to find a text message that says you talking to them >> that you're coming today. and you are coming today with a contractor to fix it 24 hours from now backwards. >> So the issues my attorney directly did the text or not. >> So actually I have attorney and lawyer because I don't want to directly text him. >> So let's let's keep with that. You you shouldn't directly contact them because this is not productive just like we explained earlier. So if today I give them notice I I then I can come back tomorrow. >> No, that's not what we're telling. >> 24 hours. Yes. I my lawyer I tell you >> I'm going to have a lawyer. >> You contact your lawyer. Your law your lawyer will contact them and tell them when you're going to be coming. That's the avenue I think you should go. >> Okay. >> And it's not today. >> Okay. No, not today. Okay. Okay. If that day I come, they refuse to move in. So they will be I will be allowed in. Is that correct? Why do you need to be here for when this when the contractor comes to work on the house? >> Why do you have to be here? >> I need to get here. I >> If they're here >> because they refuse to let you in. >> If they don't need to let you in. They can let the contractors in. >> If they're here, they can let the contractors in. >> No, this is the landlord entry, not the concern to the landlord to enter. >> I'm the landlord. This is a >> the landlord. This is the landlord. They're reading the letter. The color of this law is that the two human beings, the tenant and the landlord >> are able to mutually communicate, come to an understanding, >> yeah, >> right, that is agreeable to both parties about asserting dominance or trying to make it uncomfortable for them. Okay. It's about you two reaching a solution. And because you two are able to communicate effectively together, we are telling you to use your lawyers as a communication like portal, okay? Or go through some mediation thing like the Belleview Conflict Resolution Center. But this your behavior today and us coming back here twice, not acceptable. >> You yelling at my partner and I telling us the same that you told us before, unacceptable. Do you understand that? >> I understand. So, first thing, >> no first thing. Is there anything else that you have to add? Cuz if not, we're going to ask you to get in your test or leave, please. >> Okay. So, next time a lawyer ask me to come, I come. If if they don't let me come, this is their fault. I this is the we found what the law tell you. You tell me the law. What you told me is that I can only fix it after they [snorts] move out this house. Just just move. >> That was a law. Law should follow the law. I have the law. That is landlord tenant law. That is civil law that is enforced. It's supposed to be civil, right, between two people coming to a mutual understanding, which you two are not able to do. >> While Mr. Lee complicated the situation further for himself, his tenant was just about to [music] make him regret stepping foot in her house without permission. >> I'm not breaking my life right now. Okay. Well, no, you should be arrested. >> For what? >> He's threatening me. He's harassing me. I know, but but what did he what did he do to threaten you? >> You can ask the neighbors. The neighbor said she called the police cuz she was shaking. She was so afraid. She heard him the first time. >> Okay. >> Okay. Let me deal cuz he's all elevated right now. Let me just be >> Mr. Lee continued with his blind arguments, not knowing that every word he spoke was leading him right into his doom. >> The behavior you're exhibiting is making your tenant feel uncomfortable and unsafe. barge against their house >> because I give them I have the right the land to enter because the Lord tells me >> you can't barge into their house back to their house >> because I'm not call I'm afraid I want to enter into my house >> you can't say you're afraid and keep coming back >> okay I will not call you >> because your words and your actions are not lining up >> okay I'm not >> how you're handling it is the wrong way because we're involved because other issues happen on a daily basis >> okay that we don't get called. >> So I I I give them notice later I will come back tomorrow. You you can see the police said 24 hours I give you notice 24 hours. This time I will come back. I give you notice and today I will go back home. I give you the notice 24 hours I will take contract back. Yesterday tomorrow fixing it. Okay. Fix the toilet. Make it liveable. No excuse for no payment. >> We're not here to discuss your civil issue. >> Oh sorry sorry. I just told them I give you solution. I give you option your payment. You don't need to pay. not standing here so that you can freely say whatever you want today. >> If you have nothing else to say to us, please get in your car and go. >> You don't cheat. You said leave. You still leave it there. TV open. Keep it open. Look over. >> Everyone to be vulnerable. Everyone to pay the no cost. If you come right, I will continue. Just repair it until it's liveable. Sorry. Sorry for everyone. Sorry for everyone. I tried to fix it, but no one found me fixed. >> Did he Did he ever actually leave the first time? >> We made him leave >> and then he came back. >> Mr. Lee's tenant wasn't going to back down without [music] a fight and that might eventually put him in behind bars. >> My attorney said, I mean, he's [music] he's told me it's criminal harassment. You told him not to come back. He came right back. >> You can tell my neighbors, the first time we called, she said she was shaking. She was so afraid for me. And then we were stand I didn't know where he came from, but he came just up here just screaming. I was speaking with them in the garage. And [snorts] here he came. You can ask them, but the lady said she was so afraid for me. The first time she was shaking and she called the police as well. >> What exactly was it saying when he got here? >> I don't know. I just shut the garage. You know, so we're we're trying to work we're trying to work through what what's really going on here, but we want to make sure like we get accurately what he was saying. >> I don't know. I was so afraid I just shut the garage. I just heard him just come up screaming. You can maybe ask them. I don't know what he was saying. >> Are those the neighbors right there? >> Yeah, they live right next door. Go talk to them. I I don't know where he came from. I'm just I'm so afraid of this guy at this point. >> To understand the situation further, the officers spoke to witnesses and their accounts pointed at something far worse than just harassment. In that moment, they started to realize that they might have been dealing with a maniac all along. >> Hi there. >> So, you guys saw him come back this second time. >> Oh, yeah. >> This guy is nuts. >> Yeah, he is. >> We were talking in the garage. >> Mhm. >> And And she saw him coming and so she hit the garage door and he started running like crazy and he dove underneath the garage door to get in. >> So, you guys were you were standing in the garage or outside? >> In the garage. >> Oh, chatting with the chatting with the >> show the mold. They lit right here next door. I called it in twice. >> Oh, so you guys were And then she saw him try to run in and he What? Did you hear Did he say anything? >> Oh, then he started yelling and she ran into the house and closed the door. >> What was he saying? >> I can't I was so his house. He has a right to come in. >> Yeah. And he's going to change the locks and she can't change the locks. >> Okay. >> I would She's scared. I'm scared, too. >> Okay. having a >> So you didn't hear you didn't hear exactly what he said, but y'all were standing there and he tried to dive into the thing when she twice. >> She didn't want him in there. >> He went out and started yelling on the driveway and then she came in and hit the door again cuz it's right by the the door that goes into the house. [music] >> And he came and and literally stopped the door from coming down and pushed it. >> Okay. Trying to figure that out right now if we we're able to arrest him. That's kind of We might call him back just to >> Well, >> what happens if he comes back again? >> Well, that's the thing. We We We might be calling him back here so we can arrest him. >> Well, just call him back. >> I bet you anything. And I don't feel real comfortable. I feel sorry for that lady. He will come back. >> Oh, yeah. I'm sure he will. >> Yes, he will come back. He'll change the locks. >> Yeah. Well, we told her if he does do that, she has all the right in the world to break the door down to get back into there. So, she >> Well, you know, this isn't the first time that he was screaming. I think it was the management company was screaming that. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Only a miracle could save Mr. Lee from the potential harm his [music] actions might have caused him. And that miracle may never come. >> So foundationally how it started civil, but then his behavior is escalating. [music] >> We want to try to make sure we get all the information >> so that before it [music] goes past any sort of civil measure, we want to make sure we have all the information. >> Attorney said, "I don't know why the police don't take action. It's like criminal like stalking harassment at this point. >> Well, the RC based on the RCW, it's [music] not technically stalking. >> Well, it's harassment. You told him to leave and not to come back and to give me notice. >> Correct. The RCW says that as far as harassment goes, it has to be a threat against uh bodily harm. >> A direct threat to harm you. >> Yes. >> Or your property. >> Right. So, if you didn't say, >> if the guy's coming up here screaming like when he came in the first time [music] and looking at me with this just face like I want to, you can ask them. I don't know. He [music] came up here screaming. I know that. >> Yeah, we're we're working through it right now. So, we're >> So, did you miss a June payment? >> I did because I haven't had plumbing and mold and water restoration. And >> was there an um was there an inspector that came out and deemed it [music] Livable? There's no toilets in there. >> There's no toilets. >> No toilets or a shower. They're all on the garage right now. >> Yeah, you can go look everything. >> How long have they been missing toilets for? >> Oh, for several days. >> Okay. Is that why you're at a hotel? >> Yeah, we've been at a hotel. >> You know, he didn't fix the plumbing the first time for 5 days, >> which is illegal. >> I think you can I think >> we can uh we don't have to do this outside. If you guys want to like close the garage door button up and like maybe go get a glass of water and come back. >> I don't trust leaving this house. I'm I think I need to get the locks changed. I I think he'll be back. I I >> like I said, we're we're trying to work through that and trying to buffer, but if your plan is to get out of here, >> I wouldn't worry about trying to schedule locks to get changed. I would worry about like trying to >> Yeah. But if I leave and then he's sitting in there and he, >> you know, I I don't know. >> I just I don't think the guy abides by the law. He clearly doesn't know anything about landlord tenant laws. >> I know. to want you take this gusser and just chill for a second out of 10 attorney's return. >> Despite all the warnings, Mr. Lee returned the next day and was ultimately charged with criminal trespassing, a violation of the residential landlord tenant act as well as harassment. Mr. Lee was a horrible landlord, no doubt, but he didn't go cunning utilities like this landlord who shut off his tenants utilities and was uncooperative with the authorities. >> Don't touch me. >> Don't touch me. I don't have to talk to you. >> I don't have to listen to I'll put you in handcuffs. All right, turn. I'll put your hand behind your back door. Put me on handcuff. Yeah, put your hand >> cuz you're not afraid of >> I was sitting in there naked and um and he walked in. I No knock on the door, no nothing. >> On July the 28th, 2024, officers were dispatched to a residence after receiving reports of a landlord who cut off utility services due to unpaid rent. Although he might have been justified, it was his attitude with the cops that was going to get him in murky waters. How we doing? [snorts] >> Okay. Are you the landlord? >> Yes. >> Who are you? >> I'm Deputy McCarti with the sheriff's office. >> You have a business card? >> What? >> Do you have a business card? [music] >> A business card? Yeah. I can give it to you when we're done. >> No, I need it before. >> Why? >> Deputy Marti, my name tag's right here. I got to chat with you about everything going on. What's going on today? Oh, no. I'm working, man. >> Well, why don't you explain to me what's going on? We got called here. Turn it off. Turn it off. I don't want to. >> You have to talk to me. >> No, I don't have to talk. Don't Don't touch me. >> Turn it off. >> Don't touch me. I don't have to talk to you. >> Yes, you will. >> No. >> No, we are my lawyer. >> No, we are my loyal. Okay. Well, you're going to talk to You're going to at least stand here so I can talk to you. So, you can let go. Please let go. Let me I'm here. Let my hand go. Okay, let go so I can not to touch. >> I'm not I'm not you. >> You are touching me. That's a >> It's not a >> I'm here to investigate what's going on. >> Investigating. I don't have to talk to you. >> There was a disturbance that took place. Okay. So, I'm here trying to figure it out. You're part of that. >> I don't have to to help you with investigation. >> You have to identify yourself. >> No, I don't. >> Yes, you do. I'm here to investigate a crime possibly. So, you have to investigate. You're holding this off. I'm not turn I'm holding the lawn mower. >> Okay. >> Okay. I need you to identify yourself. >> I don't have to identify myself. >> You do have to identify yourself. >> It's possible that you went in here. I don't know who you are. >> I don't know who you are. That's what I need to investigate. >> I don't have to identify myself. >> You do have to invest because I'm here to investigate a possible crime. >> Tell me the law. >> I'm I'm here to investigate a >> What law do I break? >> Listen. Listen to me. >> No, you answer my question. >> Listen to me. >> You answer my question. >> Listen [music] to me. >> You answer my question. >> I'm trying to explain things to you. You are Deputy Marti with the sheriff's office. >> Public servant, right? >> I'm Deputy McCarti with the sheriff servant. >> Listen to me. >> You are a public servant. I don't have to listen to you. >> You have to identify yourself. >> I don't. >> If you don't, you'll go to jail. >> Do you want to go to jail for obstruction? >> That's no atrocium. I don't have to talk to you. >> You don't have to talk to me, but you have to identify yourself to me. Yes, you do. >> The law said I don't have to. >> Yes, you do. When I'm here legally, you have to identify >> me and then I will tell you stand over here. >> No, tell me to change over here. No, I fine. Don't trust me. Don't touch me. I'm trying to >> Don't trust me. Okay. >> If you don't identify yourself, >> I don't have to identify myself. >> I I can [music] I can identify. I don't have to identify myself to you. >> I absolutely need >> Don't touch me. Okay. Public tell me. Don't trust me. >> I absolutely need you to identify. >> I don't have to identify myself. What law is that? I need a supervisor. Call a supervisor. I'm not going to call a supervisor. >> Call a supervisor. I'm asking for a supervisor. Call a supervisor. Listen to me. [music] Call a supervisor. He said I that I have to identify myself. I don't have to identify myself. >> Can I ask you a couple questions? >> No, I don't want to ask any question. I don't want to ask any question. >> Yeah. You won't tell me anything. Tried to walk away and start mowing again when I walk. >> I'm working. I'm working. >> I understand that. But we we got a call of a disturbance. So, we're here to investigate. >> Investigation. That's what I need to identify you. >> No, I don't do cuz we're investigating. >> No, I don't have What law is that? Send me the law. [music] the law for investigate a disturbance. >> So investigate. I don't have to help with the investigation. >> And you're part of the investigation. >> No, I don't have to help you. >> Yeah. You're the >> I don't have to help you with investigation. >> Can I ask you a question? >> I don't. No, I want to ask you question. >> Why do you have to be this way? Why do you have to have this answer? >> I don't because I don't have to answer any question. >> I know my right >> like this deputy said you do. >> No, I don't. >> You do have to identify yourself [music] because we're here to investigate a disturbance. >> Number 3613. >> Okay. You are a public servant. >> Sorry. >> You are a public servant. >> My what? >> You are a public servant. >> Public servant. >> Servant. Yes, sir. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yep. So, >> I don't have to talk to you without my lawyer presence. >> Yes, you do. >> No, I don't. >> You have to identify yourself. If you don't want to talk, fine. You don't have to talk. >> I ask for a supervisor [music] of two times. >> Yeah. There's someone coming. >> Okay. When the supervisor, okay, I'll talk to him. I decide to. >> Okay. >> Until then, I need you to stand right here. And you're not going anywhere. You are not free to leave. You are not free to leave. You are not free to leave. You are detained for investigation right now. >> Hey, listen to me. No, no, I don't have to listen to you. You don't have to listen to me. No, I don't have to listen to you. >> I'll put you in handcuff. All right, turn. I'll put you in your hand. Put me on. >> Yeah, put your hand cuz you're not going to put this nearby. >> One would think that getting detained would make the landlord cooperative. Instead, it only [music] seemed to fuel his anger. >> You are not free [snorts] to leave. You are not in charge of this investigation. >> So, until you calm down, you're going to have a seat in my car. >> Don't talk me. Okay, I'll hang out. Don't talk. Leave my phone. Let go. Leave my phone. I'm going to put it in your pocket. >> Is my hand is okay? >> I'm going to put it in your pocket. It's not okay in your hand cuz I don't want you to sit on it. There. It's going in your pocket. You're coming. You're going to come sit by myself. >> I can go by myself. I can go by myself. >> Can you I'm going to walk. Can you >> walk this way? >> You're a piece of you know that. >> Okay. >> Have a seat. [music] >> I don't consider any situation. I have no idea. >> I don't consume. You know what I say? [music] Why you know what I say? >> I don't consent to any certain issue. >> I don't know. >> Are you listening? Are you listening? >> You don't consent to any searches. I heard you. >> Okay. So, why you keep doing it then? >> Make sure to have a pocket knife for >> Why can you do this? >> Okay. Have a seat. >> Have a seat. >> Have a seat. >> Why don't you obey the law? >> I I'm obeying the law. >> No, you're not the law. Are you supervisor? >> Can you call for a supervisor, please? Sit. >> Can you call for a supervisor? >> To determine that. >> Sit. Can you call for Get your foot in. >> I'm going to put your foot, but don't touch me. >> Put your foot in. Stop talking. >> A cop spoke with one of the tenants and didn't take time for her [music] revelations to begin revealing unsettling details about the landlord. >> What is going on? >> Do you have an ID? >> I do. I can provide it. >> Wonderful. Why don't we start with that? Could you grab that for me, please? >> That's my >> cool. We'll have him hang out over here in the car. >> Yeah, buddy. It's your truck. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Hey, calm down. Calm down, guys. >> No, I know. What What the heck is going on? >> Hey, it's easy. They don't want to pay the rent. So, that's that's the problem. >> Sure. And I'm just trying to figure out why she called us. So, that's why we're here. And obviously, he's upset. So, I just wanted to figure out what's going on. >> Yeah. >> Perfect. >> Okay. Connie. >> Yes. >> What is going on? >> So, his dad lives here. >> Who's Who's that? Um my fiance's father. >> Okay. He lives here. >> Is he who else lives here? >> Um bunch of people. >> Okay. >> So like he he rents uh rooms and garages to with no air and water to some Mexican people there have a baby. But anyhow, M um Officer Mottz was here last week. >> Okay. And um so he said that he told us we um if we if we wanted to be here, we allowed to because we're his dad's company. And so um >> that's what the >> with the >> the landlord had said. >> Yeah. The landlord was giving him a heart problem. So you got >> Oh, the tenant had said you guys could be here. >> The officer said officer MZ was like, you know, you guys are here. You're his company. You're allowed to be here. So I said, okay. Well, today we were going to get help from St. Vinc Paul to pay the rent because he wants him evicted. So, we're going to get that paperwork together to get it over there. But I was sleeping in there naked. And um and he walks in I no knock on the door, no nothing. He just opens his father's establishment where he's living and just walks in the room and starts knocking on the the refrigerator while I'm there naked. Hey, you got to get out of here. I said, "Excuse me, sir. That is illegal. You're not supposed to. Not to mention, he turned off the um powered [music] off the the room, y'all. Last night had no lights, no no uh refrigerator. All his stuff went bad. All his food that he had, we have to throw it out yesterday because he powered off the the fridge and the and the power and no hot water. So, today we were just going to get every try to get everything situated, but I didn't get enough sleep cuz I was working. So, my boyfriend said, "Look, just stay here sleeping until my dad gets out of work. We'll get him and we'll get everything going. >> Okay. >> And so this guy just walks in the room while I was in there naked and says to me, "Well, go ahead, call the cops." I says, "I am going to call the cops cuz you're not supposed to just walk in the house and then walk in." >> You were sleeping >> while I was sleeping. I have it on video. >> Okay. I I was just curious if landlords if they knock and say, "Hey, landlord." And they come in. So I guess I was just curious if that occurred at all. Never. >> Um I I know it would be tough to know if it did happen if you were sleeping. So that's why I asked. I know maybe you don't know that. I'll probably talk to him and probably talk to him, but I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Um, so he's the land the guy that's in the back of the car is the landlord, >> I believe. So, he is because >> he's the owner of the house. Okay. Okay. Yeah. >> Um, have you guys been evicted or served with any eviction paperwork? >> My dad was served an eviction letter. >> Okay. When when was that? >> Um, two days ago. >> Okay. And when when did it say you guys were evicted by? >> It doesn't say. It says we have 5 days to um >> vacate, >> detest it. >> Oh, to contest it and whatnot. >> Yeah, there you go. Contest it. So, that's what we're going to do. We're going to go down to St. Vincent, see if they can help pay pay um cuz he's asking an absurd amount of $3,600 for one room. So, there's something going on because every tenant in here has to pay $3,600. So it just So we were going to contest it and see what we can do as far as how much to come up with or how much. >> So you had 5 days to contest it. There was no vacate the premises by this day or time. >> No. >> Okay. Um and did he say what he was here for today? >> He wanted me out. >> He wanted you specifically. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um All right. So the paper the eviction paperwork. Do you guys have that here? >> Uh he has it I believe >> in the car with him. >> Okay. I'll chat with him then. He lives here, too. Or staying. You guys are staying here with the dad. >> With the dad some days. Yes. >> Okay. All right. >> The cop proceeded to speak to the landlord once again, hoping that this time it would be a success. >> Hi, how's it going? >> Mary Ocean, Nora, Tom, Adam, Lincoln, Ocean for St. Charles. >> Why do I have identify myself? >> Why do you have to identify yourself? You're causing a disturbance. >> Oh, I know. >> Did you give 24-hour notice before entering the property? I don't ask any questions. >> You do realize that if you do not know you >> sounds good. >> Since the landlord chose to be stubborn, the cops proceeded with their investigation. And with each passing moment, the news around the landlord's neck got tighter. >> Eviction paperwork. >> I want to see if he is legit, bro. Because I got I got I'm working. I got money. I I want I want to get my place. That's for my father place, you know. >> This one here. >> Yeah. So I I want to I want to see see my papa is safe being here or not because I want to get out of here with my papa right now. Bro, these guys are asking hang a lot, man. Too much too much. Too much. >> He's working right now. It's in the phone. >> So when were you guys served this? >> He putting in the I get this paper from the door yesterday. >> So it was posted on the door. >> Yeah. >> So this is the eviction paperwork. She's saying he's possibly the landlord. She doesn't know for sure. She didn't have a name. Um, >> it doesn't matter. >> Doesn't matter. >> Yeah, I know. This was posted. >> Yeah, >> this was dated June 21st. >> With a date of >> Look it up. >> And this is the 5day eviction thing. It says June 21st down here, but it says the 26th at the top. >> You saw on the 26th. Okay. >> I saw this yesterday. So >> look him up though. >> The you're trying to you're trying to investigate that. He won't provide any information. Batter resisted so obstruction. >> Correct. Uh he there's no exiting circumstances allowing him to enter the residence, i.e. water coming out or anything like that. He has no fear that damage is occurring. >> So he can't enter based on that. He did not post a 24-hour notice >> that he won't tell us. >> Yeah. >> So he can't enter. >> Trespass the dwelling. Yep. >> You just locked in the front door. Okay. So, >> yeah. Hold on. Did he call you guys at all and say that he was coming? >> Not at all. He comes here every day. He was here yesterday at 9:00 knocking on the door. I was in there. I'm afraid. You know, he had two other men with him. This guy and some other big dude. And he was screaming through the door obscenely. He's like, "You better get the f out or you're going to learn today." And then that's when the lights turned off and then the hot water and everything else. Okay. >> But his dad, he's such a like doesn't want no problem type of guy. We're like, "Look, we can call the cops and have this reported cuz he's not supposed to shut off your natural like natural resources." And he says, "No, >> get open here, too." >> Oh, good. >> Um, one special. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, this looks like on the 26th this was posted. It is a 5day thing as due to dated June 21st. Okay. Um, so as far as you know, you weren't told that he was coming today and trying to come inside at all. So there was no notice of landlord coming. Not to your knowledge. He didn't knock and announce his presence. >> Okay. Um, I just got to chat with him to see if that any of that occurred. Okay. Um, I'm going to give this back to him. >> Um, do you have anything else you'd like to add at this point or anything else we should know? But yesterday he was here banging on the door yelling >> at 9 >> and then he didn't he didn't come in then. No, he was knocking. He wanted someone else. >> Let me ask this. So, he came here wanting to talk to somebody yesterday at 9:00. Did you speak to him through the door? >> No, I didn't. >> Did he say he was going to come back tomorrow? >> No. >> So, here's that back for you. When uh when he was here, he was here yesterday morning. >> You see, every day >> I'm walking in the street, you see the market in my car because he did not let me go inside. So, I'm not living here. That's my father. My father is old people and he driving truck. He clean record 20 years old. This guy tried to make me dirty to my papa. >> Sure. >> My papa LG he >> when he when Let me just ask a question. The landlord was here yesterday. Were you here when he was here? >> Yeah, I'm inside. I got video inside scaring because that's outside. Hey, this is hotel. >> What did he say about when he was here yesterday? Did he say he was coming back today? >> He said he's coming back. He said he don't want me here. I mean say I don't want you around my my papa too. She don't know if she is my girl. She don't know nothing about her. I only leave at 4 in the morning to sleeping because I taking my papa to work. There's only one car for now. I need to use the red one for my father, you know. >> Okay. >> So, >> so to your knowledge, he didn't say yesterday that he was coming back today. Did he tell either of you that he was coming today? >> Maybe in the video, but I I only watch >> Yeah. The cops went to speak to a witness. For the first time in the investigation, things began to look promising for the landlord. >> Hey buddy, do you want to chat with me at all? >> Um, were you here with him yesterday? >> Yes. >> Okay. What time was that at? You think? >> What time we here yesterday? Like we start painting back probably 11 >> at like 11:00 a.m. >> Yeah. Yeah. in 10 11. >> Okay. Later morning. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um what do you remember? What do you remember happening today? >> Okay. The reason does he mad is because it's one room for only his dad. >> So three people in one room and he don't want to pay the rent for I think two months. No deposit, no rent, he don't pay water, he don't pay light. >> So he's not paying light, water, anything. So it's he's renting a room to the dad for one person here. >> They haven't paid rent in two months. Electric or water. >> I think it's two months. >> Okay. >> Because we start to work in this house last month. >> Okay. And so what happened today? >> We come in. He come in first to cut the grass and then when I come in, I go to Home Depot. So they fight inside. >> They were inside already >> because >> Okay. because um he said he knocked the door and nobody [music] answered. Every day nobody answered. Him, the girl, his dad, nothing. [music] Uh I think the the the courthouse send the paper. They take it all and then throw away and then they pick it up and go to the room. So I know that guy for like seven years. He's a good guy because two people inside is homeless. So he help a lot of people. >> Yeah. The reason that he look with you is because he's tired for that people. >> Yeah. >> No pain [music] nothing. >> Mhm. >> So, but he's good guy. I swear. >> Okay. >> So, inside is to homeless people. >> So, when you got here, he was already inside yelling and screaming in the grass. Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. >> But then he go inside again and he knocked the door and she start to fight and and I tell him, "What happens?" Man, it's another girl. I don't know. I don't know who's that girl. This the first time I see that girl. >> Okay. All right. All righty. >> Yeah. But >> but yesterday you guys were here at about 10 or 11, you think? >> Late morning. >> I don't know remember, but >> knocking and nobody answered. >> He working the bike and he answered and he knocked the door and said, "Man, >> nobody's answering." >> Yesterday, yesterday we disconnect the water and then like in his room. >> You realize you also can't do that, >> huh? >> You also can't do that. >> Yeah, you can't disconnect electric and water from a a tenants residence. But All right. >> Yeah, but in the room, so >> Yeah. Yeah. But you still can't do that. >> All right. >> As the investigation [music] proceeded, a new development came to light, bringing about an unexpected turn of events. >> First thing he said was, "We'll be back for you at lunchtime. Don't open the door to no one." That's the first time my fiance said, "Okay, >> he left." So that's how I know. >> And what time was that about? >> When my fiance left or when >> What time did he say that he'd be back? >> Oh, about 12:30 with his lunch. 12:30ish. >> Okay. >> My my fiance. >> Okay. Gotcha. Mhm. where we're going to get everything situated with the forts and the eviction and all that. >> Okay. >> And so he just walked in and um and so I started recording. I said, "Sir, this is illegal. You're not allowed to come in here with without my knowledge or you just broke in the room." And he says, "Well, do what you got to do and call 12 cops if you want." >> Okay, >> that's what I did. >> Uh we have just one other slight issue, Connie. Um there is an open case on you for your arrest for scheming to def fraud or something like that. I'm not sure. So, at this time, I have to take you at I'll show you, but at this time, I'm going to take you into cyd I'm not going to give you a problem, sir. >> I just turn around. >> I just wanted to know if I can put like a better shirt on. >> Well, you can We're not letting you go back inside the house. >> What was that? >> We're not letting you go back inside the house. >> Can I get him to get me a shirt, please? Cuz I have >> We'll talk We'll talk to him. So, just >> we're going to put your handcuffs in your car. We can have him go get one for you. So, you have it when you get to jail. Okay. Okay, >> we'll figure it all out down there. Okay, >> it's a scheme of defraud. What is that? >> I don't know. It's a open case with some of our detectives. >> Where is this at? Like, what? >> Charlotte County. It's us. >> Scheme and defraud. What is that? I don't >> scheme of defraud. I don't Like I said, I don't know. This is something the detectives uh notified us about. >> What the heck? >> The officers proceeded to search the landlord, but he made it far more difficult than it was supposed to be. Can you step out for me? Move your feet apart for me. >> All right. I'm going to search you. Okay. >> That's fine. Cool. You don't have to at this point. >> Do you want your keys to stay here? Here to my frame. >> Okay. On my not moving. >> You move me. I moving. Stop doing. >> I'm not arguing. I can't talk, right? No, you can't hurt. >> Yeah, I can. But no, I can't talk. >> And you can't tug yourself around. >> I can turn. >> So when you do that, that's when stuff is going to drop. So you got to just stand still. >> Wait, you move. I'm going to move. You're stronger than me. You know that, right? >> I just told you to face the scar. You're the one turning around. >> I'm facing the car. You move me. I'm relaxed. >> Do you ever not argue? >> You don't have that ability, do you? >> I have my right. I know my right. I know for sure. >> I know my right. >> Yeah. That's why you just committed crimes. Where? >> That's why I'm going to jail. >> What's the crime that I committed? >> Trespassing and identifying myself. That's a crime. >> Correct. >> Okay. I know that. No. >> You're trying to invest. >> I thought you knew your I thought you knew your laws. >> Yeah, I know. >> Well, guess they change it. >> All right. We double >> your keys. Give it to my friend. >> We'll call him over. They're double [music] locked. >> Fantastic. And they're more than loose, man. They're not even tight at all. >> Well, they were tight. >> They were not tight then either. You do realize everything's on camera. So, have a seat. >> Do you have body camera? >> Oh, yeah. Have a seat. >> Hop in for me. >> That's why all this will be admissible in court. [music] >> Oh, that's what it was. Yeah. Okay. >> All right. Watch, Ed. In the end, the landlord was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest without violence. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation, 30 hours of community service, and was required to write a letter of apology to the deputy. Up next is Miss Terry, a self-aclaimed property manager who attacked a tenant with a baseball bat and got exactly what she deserved. >> All these people saw her with the tried to hit me WITH A BAT. EVERYBODY, >> WHY AM I PUTTING MY HAND behind my back? Going to jail. >> Yeah, for what? They'll explain everything to you. >> Good luck. >> Good luck. On >> March the 20th, 2023, officers received a report of a landlord and a tenant whose verbal altercation escalated into a physical confrontation involving a baseball bat. The officers got to the residence and were met with a furious victim. And her account did nothing but implicate the self-aclaimed property manager. >> Representing herself as the property manager. She's not the property manager. She's another tenant. She lives here and here and she just rents out rooms to disabled people. So, you're not the property. So this morning I'm sitting in my car. My daughter's probation officer mentor is sitting right here with the yellow tag. >> She comes here. She pulls in. She pulls by my car. She looks at me. She pulls by the lady cars down her window. And right when she get ready to say something to the lady, I said, "Excuse me, she's with me. >> Leave her alone." Oh, she got out of So me and her going back and forth because every time somebody come here, you're always harassing people. Leave people alone. People can have company. Somebody could pull up and load their car. Okay. >> Now, the lady worked for the state of Florida. Why you [ __ ] with her? >> She's legitly here and I'm watching her escort my daughter to a court date. So, why the you here following her? >> So, she's going back and forth. The lady just pulled out a bat on me and just tried to hit me with a bat. You could ask those people and you can ask that other lady. I want to on her and it's not the first time. Listen, she already pulled out a my what the y'all did about that. >> So, tell me about So, after you have the exchange with her, >> okay, I get in my car and I pull up here and we're going back and forth because this is like the third or fourth time again. She already pulled out on my chair. What is your issue with me and my family? It seemed like every time we make a move, your ass here, you always have something to say. Oh, you >> you need to move. >> Tell me tell me about the bat thing real quick again. >> Right here. It happened right here. So when I got out the car, that's when [music] she pulled out her bat like hit you. So I'm like, Terry, well, put down the bat and let's just fight. She don't want to fight. She want to swing the bat and keep trying to hit me with a damn bat. >> All right, man. Can you just calm down? Is she here right now? Where? >> No, she left. I keep telling y'all she just left. She's in a gold killer ride [music] with the tag number two and she came back again with a lady trying to try to jump in and she pulled out. Ain't no kid jump and all these people saw her with the [ __ ] tried to hit me with a bat. Everybody. >> Okay. So, it's making sure you were parked over here with your daughter and her probation officer. >> No, my daughter was in the house. Probation officers in this car. My daughter comes out the house. I greet her, tell her whatever cuz I know she have paperwork. I bring her to the car and she's still trying to say something to them. >> I'm like, listen to me here overnight because22, >> but I live here. Why my daughter probation officer can't come pick her up without you always? And like I said, just always start engaging with me. >> And then she took it to a whole another level when she went in her car and got a bat. Why is she pulling out a BAT ON ME? AND THE HOE TRIED TO HIT ME. I HAD TO PUT MY FEET UP TO keep this from hitting me with a battle. Like I told him, Y'ALL SHOULD HAVE LET HER hit me. SHE HAD MORE PROOF. YES. >> CUZ SHE SWUNG the bat at you. >> Yeah, she hit my door. I don't even know if I got no goddamn damage, but why is she swinging a bat at me anyway? >> And like I said, the whole point is >> Well, where did she hit your car with the bat? >> She hit the car 184. >> I was getting in the car and she kept trying to like swing the bat and I just kept hitting with my foot. >> Okay, >> but I'm really tired of her and I really would like the first time. It's like the second time I try to put paperwork on this lady and y'all act like she untouchable. How the she pulling out bats on me. I'm really trying to figure out how the she get away from this [ __ ] Somebody hurt her and everybody gonna be looking stupid to the [ __ ] hospital. That's crazy. But I'm tired of her ass. >> Can you write a statement about what happened? >> I can. And like I said, everybody out here saw it. So, please ask them and confirm cuz I don't want y'all trying to say she get to get away with nothing again. >> I got you. I'll talk to the people standing here and ask them, >> man. Them people down there. >> Okay. Here. Hang on right here. Give me one second. The cops spoke to witnesses and their statements didn't just match that of the victims, but also provided raw evidence, making it clear that it was over for Miss Terry. >> So, did y'all just see what happened? >> Did you see what happened out here? >> Yeah. >> Just coming up. We doing jump in the truck and then lady pulled up messing with her. She was sleep back there. >> Mhm. >> And then that lady pulled up, say she the property manager and she started jumping on her case. >> Probation officer being here. But like I said, >> he's coming in my car and I I got to talk to you independently. Can you hang up on my car? >> I looking for my phone. I dropped my phone while I tried to break up the fight in the back. >> Do me a favor after the I write your name and explain what happened. Okay. >> So, you saw them two arguing over here. Then what happened? >> Then I came from over here trying to jump the truck. Me and my brother came and try to break it up. The lady pulled out a bat on and tried to hit her. She was in the car. She was hitting at swing. She swung the bat at her. >> Yeah, she was swinging at the bat at her. She was in the car trying to defend herself, but the lady kept handing her with her back and then she just pulled off. >> Okay. >> She said she the landlord here and all of this. >> Will you write a statement for me about what you saw? >> Yeah, I write a statement. I was trying to get my phone over here real quick. >> Do you have your ID with you? >> I don't know. Let me check the truck. >> Yeah, if you don't mind checking, come back up here for me. >> The cops went ahead to speak to Miss Terry, and she had quite a lot to say, but mere words were absolutely [music] nothing compared to the evidence they had. Hey, Miss Terry. Can you step out for me? >> Yeah. What's going on? >> Here. Do me a favor. Put your hand behind your back for me. >> Why am I putting my hand behind my back? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. For what? >> They'll explain everything to you, >> Mr. President. Y'all ain't got to put on me. >> Uh, yeah. Actually, just chill. Somebody home right now that they can move your car. >> My son is in in my house. I want to know what I'm going to jail for. >> But we'll talk to you about that in one second. >> Just don't care about no car. I can drive around where y'all was at. >> Here, let's go right over here to my car and we'll talk. >> No, let me get my purse in my car. >> Here, we'll get your purse and step up. >> This is ridiculous. This is >> Come on. >> All right. Before we talk though, I'm going to let you sit here and I got to read you something. Okay. >> You don't got to read me nothing cuz I don't want no I didn't do >> for real. That's ridiculous. That's a computer one. Well, while we're standing here, let me read you something. Okay. >> Yeah, you read it. Then then you take the cuff off. >> All right. You have the right on my side. Do you understand? >> Can you verbalize yes or no for me? >> Yeah. Uh-huh. >> And the saying maybe he's against you in court. Do you understand? >> Yeah, I understand it. >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer before and during question. Do you understand? >> Okay. >> Don't go in the house knocking the door. Get Tony. If you cannot afford a lawyer and what one ma'am >> if you cannot afford a lawyer and what one won't be provided for you before question without charge you understand now why am I why >> has anyone threatened you or promised you anything you didn't get talk to me has ANYONE >> NO MAN WHY GOT TO CUSS ON >> so what happened today with uh now she pushed me >> okay she pushed me >> okay >> all right back and that was it >> so where did the bat come in >> I don't I don't BAT OUT A DAMN BOY CAR >> OKAY SO WHY DID TWO people say that you were swinging a bat at her. Amy hit a bat with a >> dude. Two people there. >> No, ain't nobody ain't nobody. They lying. They lying. They lying. I got my son here with me saying I got I didn't do it. >> Have a seat. >> Okay then. >> So you're saying she pushed you? >> Man, listen. This is not going to work. >> For real. >> Put your foot in first. >> For real. >> Put your foot in first. >> Got to take somebody to damn jail. >> There you go. Slide out. >> Everybody sit back for a second. This is ridiculous. >> Go inside the house, man. >> In that house. >> Do you have anybody who can come get your car? >> Listen, let me put my car inside my damn driveway. >> But I can't do that. >> You ain't had nobody to put no cops on me. >> Well, yeah. You're under arrest for aggravated criminal mischief. >> Who? >> You. >> You. >> What's wrong with y'all? Are y'all freaking serious? >> I can put it. I NEED MY PURSE out my car. >> You want your purse? All right. I have to tell your car though. >> YOU HEY, BRO. PUT MY CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY. >> SLIDE your knee in. >> Put my car in my driveway. >> It's okay for him to put the car in the driveway. >> Yes, it is. They give me my damn keys. >> All right. >> Which purse do you want? >> Right here in my driveway. >> What color is the purse? >> It's right on my damn front seat. [music] >> The one on the front seat. >> Mother drive. >> What? >> I don't think they're [music] going to take this purse up. >> What? >> They won't take that out of the jail. >> Let me get my purse. Let me get my damn purse. Let me get my purse. >> This guy evidence. >> Say what? >> You're not listening cuz you're screaming. >> All right. CUZ YOU AIN'T GOT NOBODY TO ME. >> DO YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR PHONE? >> YEAH, I WANT ALL MY >> Can't take this. It will not go. >> LET ME GET MY WALLET OUT OF GET my wallet. >> That's fine. >> Is this your wallet? >> My wallet is my damn >> phone.
