Don't know what you're talking about. >> Okay. Step down here for me. >> Yeah. No. No. Hey. >> Whoa. Whoa. >> What's your bad? What's What's your name? >> Step back. Look. Look. Look. He just touched. >> You can record all you want, but you're stepping back right now. >> I have three cops on me and I'm 15 years old cuz you guys intruded my house. Okay. >> Can I have the case number right now? >> Huh? >> Can I have uh where? >> Give it to your dad. >> No. No. Right now. I need it here. Police officers are meant to be the enforcers of the law. But what happens when they step out of line as a kid armed with nothing but confidence and the Constitution turns the table and leaves them humiliated? >> Get over here. >> What? >> Get over here. >> I'm not doing anything illegal. >> Yeah, you are. You just cursed me off. >> That's not a crime. >> Yes, it is. >> He's looking at you cuz he's like, "What the me to do?" Cuz there's It's not a crime. I know my rights at him. I gave him the finger once. That will not hold up. >> Do you know him? Do you know him? >> It's not your business, but it's not a lawful order. Then I take it to court and then he'd get sued and I get punitive damages. I'd be rich. Is that what you want? >> Here are several times when the cops were humiliated by kids. Starting off with this chief of police who thought he could outsmart two teens, but got humbled so badly that he walked away unemployed. >> Call the cops. Bro, you committed battery. I can assault me. You want me to go? >> Like points toward his chin. Like I'm going to hit him. And I said, "No, I'm more mature than you. I'm not going to hit you. >> On September the 17th, 2022, officers were sent out to a residence in regards to teenagers who were riding a scooter in front of a building. While riding the scooter, they squeaked a tire and ran over a traffic barrel, which they later put back up. The chief of police, who was off duty, saw what happened from his balcony and came in ready to bully, but got the biggest shock of his life. >> I ain't even doing How did you feel threatened, bro? Is it my luscious locks? Are you jealous, you bald [ __ ] Huh? I wouldn't be jealous, too. Like, it's my wrench out here, bro. >> Call the cops, bro. You can battery. I can assault you all. Just assault me. You want me to go? >> I'll make out with you right now. I swing both ways, bro. >> Assault back. I know. >> Get out of his face. >> I know better, bro. >> Hey, down here. I've got three hulans. I need to go. >> Hulkans, you hit me with a flashlight. >> I'm at Ninth Street in front of River. When the cops arrived, they got straight into business, determined to unravel what chaos had just unfolded. >> They hit the cone. They're messing around here around this new monument. >> It went on for about 5 minutes. Okay. I'd had enough. >> I'm upstairs. >> All right. I said some bad words. All right. Okay. He challenged me to fight and dared me to come down. >> Okay. I came down. >> I'm going to beat your ass and then I'm going to take you to jail. >> What? What would I do? Get out of here. >> I didn't even do nothing. >> Yeah, you can. >> He stood off on me and I did a pctoral dab with my flashlight. Okay. Okay. >> Okay. >> What did I do? >> Going that battery. >> Get out of here. >> Two charges right here. >> Okay. >> My opinion, but I'll let you investigate. >> Okay. >> I'll get their statements. I come check in with you. Okay. >> All right. First, >> talk to talk to him. >> Yep. Okay. You got nothing on you? No, we were just riding around on bird scooters, you know, like teenagers do. And then he came up here. I'm 19. >> Okay. >> And he hit the cone right here and knocked it over. >> What cone? >> Uh, it was I think it was the one with the gray side. >> Okay. Middle one. >> Yeah. And knocked it over. And then he started yelling and he threatened him first. So he was defend he was defending himself like against him. >> Where did he come from? He was up there up at the top. >> Okay. >> And he was like, "I'll come down there and beat your >> and we we waited down here to see if he would actually come down." And then he came down. Travis was standing right there. Didn't say a single word >> and like on the road and he came up and hit him. >> I don't know if it was like in the chest or the rib cage, but he hit him with the flashlight and then started shining it in his eyes. >> I was riding. You know how like when you press the brake, the back wheel walks up and it makes a squeaking noise, right? >> You can drift when you do that. It's kind of fun, right? I get it's kind of late and stuff, right? >> But he's up there. He goes, "Hey, Big Shot, you want to go?" Right? Cuz I said, he said, "Why don't you keep it down?" I said, "I'm not doing nothing wrong." He goes, "Hey, Big Shot, you want to go?" Right? So, obviously, you know, I'm a dude, 18 years old. I can hold my own ground. I'm going to hold my own ground, right? So, I didn't know who he was, right? this random guy. Oh, there we go. Right. So, I said, "Yeah, come down. Where'd you go?" Right? He's threatening me to fight me, right? And I stood right here. I said, "What's up?" He walks up to me and like I'm not going to reach. He goes like that and jabs me like right here in the bridge with the flashlight. And then he said he felt threatened. My hands are right at my sides. I don't know. I didn't swing at him. I didn't pick up. >> What did you do when he walked out? >> I just stood there. I said, "What's up?" Like I, you know, I didn't know who he was. Even without his badge, I think he was a cop. I'm not going to swing a cop. You know, I have more respect for you, man. He's like, "Hit me. Hit me. Hit me." And like point toward his chin like I'm going to hit him. And I said, "No, I'm more mature than you. I'm not going to hit you." And he goes, "Hit me." And I'm like, "I'm not going to hit you. I just I'm going to hit him." Right. >> So, yeah. >> Then what happened? >> And then you guys got here. And I just I asked him to sit down. He said, "You're free to do whatever you want." I walked over here. I seen you guys pulling up and I stopped. I just now I'm here. I didn't threaten him in any way. I don't know how he feels threatened anything. >> So, the original alification was because you were >> squeaking the tires on the bird. >> Yeah. Is that is that a worthy thing that hit someone with a flashlight? >> Cuz he's chief of police. He's above me. He's better than me. In the end, the teens and their families filed a formal complaint requesting the Bay City Police Chief be placed on leave. Within 10 days, Michigan State Police completed an investigation and sent their report to Bay County prosecutor. Days later, the chief announced his retirement amid assault allegations. He was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, punishable by up to 93 days in jail, but was released on personal recgnizance in order to avoid contact with the teens. The families later filed a federal civil lawsuit claiming the ex- chief caused lasting emotional and psychological harm. If you thought that was wild, wait till you see this bold law student who turned the tables and delivered a lesson in legal rights that left a clueless cop embarrassed. >> In order to carry a gun, you're not allowed to be a felon. >> Correct. But unless you suspect me of being a felon, there's no reason for you to stop me. Yep. And unless you have a reasonable suspicion that I'm committing a crime, you can't detain me. I have to be free to leave. >> On a fateful day, officers received a call about a man who was walking around with a firearm. When the police arrived and confronted the man, he didn't flinch. Instead, he hit them with a calm dose of legal reality that they weren't ready for. >> How are you? >> Not bad. >> Just so I can uh concentrate on what you're saying. I'm just going to go home. >> Okay. I don't consent to any searches. I just want to make that clear. >> I'm not going to search you. >> I don't consent to any seizures either. >> Okay. Just going to hold it so I can have a conversation with you. >> Okay. Um, >> what crime are you am I suspected of committing? And uh, you just pointed that gun at me when it was loaded. Just so you know, you twisted it, pointed it right at me >> before you wrecked the slide. You pointed it right at my legs. >> Um, before about a guy walking around with a gun. So, >> okay. Uh, that's not illegal. Can I have my gun back and get moving along? >> Needs your ID and then we'll get you on your way. >> What crime do you suspect me of committing? Like I said, people are starting to call about a guy carrying a gun. >> Yep. That's a report of illegal activity. What crime do you suspect me of committing in order to stop me? You have to suspect me of a crime. Can you get your supervisor here? >> He is on the way. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. Well, like I said, people are concerned. It's a public safety issue. So, I'm here to make sure everyone's all set. Make sure you're all set. >> Okay. So, I just need to get your ID and call it. >> No, sir. You're not going to give me your ID >> unless you are issuing me a summon as 17A 15A. >> I need to make sure >> requires then. >> Can you let me speak for a second? I need to make sure you're not a felon. Carry this. >> Do you suspect me of being a felon? >> I don't know you. >> Okay. If you don't suspect me of being a felon, then I would like my gun back and I would like to proceed on my way. >> With every fact he laid down, the officer's confidence took a hit. Turns out you can't bluff your way past someone who knows the law inside out. >> In order to carry a gun, you're not allowed to be a felon. >> Correct. But unless you suspect me of being a felon, there's no reason for you to stop me. >> There is a reason to stop me >> unless you suspect me of a crime, as Terry v. Ohio, Delaware v uh Prow uh requires you to have a suspicion of crime before you detain an individual. Brown v. Texas does not does not allow you to stop an individual and demand their ID. >> Can I get you a first name so I can speak to you on a on a persontoperson basis here? Uh, no. >> You're not going to give me your be that type of guy when I'm trying to have a conversation. >> I'm sorry, sir, but for my own protection, I would rather not give you anything because any name I give you is going to go in the police report about this incident. >> There's going to be no police report. >> There's a police log generated for every call. >> This is called a pedestrian. >> Yep. And unless you have a reasonable suspicion that I'm committing a crime, you can't detain me. I have to be free to leave. It has to be a consensual encounter. Sir, >> here's the deal, sir. You are walking down Conger Street carrying a gun. Yes. >> Okay. >> Is that illegal? >> It's a cause for concern. >> Do you suspect me of committing a crime? >> Sir, >> do you suspect me of carrying a crime? Committing a crime? Yes or no? >> I need >> uh suspenders. Keep my pants up. >> Yeah, that's the buckle for the suspenders. >> This is common practice, dude. >> Yep. Um it's illegal. Common practice. >> It's not illegal. You see a guy walking down the street carrying a gun? >> Yep. Is that the only reason why you stopped me >> that I'm carrying a gun? >> Okay. In that case, I want you to refer you to Deiri Vus. >> Deir Deir vus says that a firearm where legally carried cannot be the only cause for reasonable suspicion for for a stop. >> Yep. >> Am I free to go? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Can I have my gun back? >> Sure. >> Thank you. The cops eventually learned that real authority comes from knowledge, not a uniform. Speaking of kids humiliating cops, we have these officers who got a civics lesson from a college kid they underestimated. >> You realize that uh cops in New Mexico don't have qualified immunity, right? >> I do that. I do. >> Okay. So, >> I'm asking questions. I don't. It's my fifth amendment. Is it or is it not? Okay. >> Cuz that's already grounds for me to set up litigation against you. >> So, you're threatening to sue us. >> I ain't threaten nothing, brother. That's what you just said. >> Are you googling the laws right now? Cuz that's really what you should be doing right now. >> On an eventful day, officers received a report concerning a college kid who allegedly had alcohol in his room. Upon arrival, they came in swinging their authority like a weapon, but he reminded them that knowing your rights is the real power. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Here, I can help you. >> Is there anyone else in here? >> Uh, no, it's just me. >> Okay. You mind just opening the door that way I can see? >> Uh, you trying to What are you trying to look for? I just want to make sure there's no one else in there to >> start and then I'll talk to you whatever. There's no one in there right now. >> Okay. >> Come out here and talk to me then. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm going to be honest with you. So, we got a report that um you were seen walking into your dorm with alcohol. >> Okay. >> Is there alcohol in there? >> Uh I don't answer questions. What's your name and your badge number? >> Officer Furle NSU police. >> Title your name? >> Security officer. >> Oh, security officer. Okay. >> Okay. You have an ID with you? Uh, >> I do. >> Okay. Can I see it? >> Uh, you suspect me of a crime? >> I do. >> Okay. What crime and how can you articulate it? >> Minor possession of alcohol. We got a report that you were locked in. >> So, it's like here they say they said thing. >> Okay. >> It's a Yeah, right. It's like they said that he has and that that's how you're going to articulate it. >> So, we don't have to go down this route. If you want to if you want to go down this route, we can. >> Well, I really don't. But like you're I'm studying right now. I'm doing homework. They knocked on my door. I'm out here. I want to know what's on. You say that they they said that there's alcohol in this room. >> Oh, that they saw me >> going into this room and that there's alcohol in there. How can you articulate it, though? >> Okay. So, that's why I'm here talking to you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, I still need to ID you. >> Uh, no. >> And then we need to go from there. >> You have to you have to suspect me of a crime. >> I I do. You you're you realize that uh cops in New Mexico don't have qualified immunity, right? >> I do that. I do. >> Okay. So, from from here on, just let's just be careful what you about to do right now. You're saying that you want my ID, but right now you're not you or yourself can articulate a crime that I've committed. >> Okay. >> So, >> so I already explained to you why I'm here, why I need your ID. >> I know what you're here, but Okay. Is my D going to tell you if there's alcohol in that room? >> No, but I still need to identify. >> My name is Joel. >> Joel? What? >> Joel? I need your first, last name, and your date of birth. >> No, you don't. >> Thank you. >> If you don't want to provide that, >> you don't want to call officer Donovan or one of your supervisors here. >> Yeah, I can get a sergeant over. >> I calling him because right now, this is not what you want to do right now cuz this is a violation of my fourth amendment. >> Okay. All right. Let me let me get a sergeant over here. Okay. >> Yeah. >> 2021. >> Yeah, that's my room. Okay. You want to just hang out out here then? >> Is he detained? >> No, it's fine. I just don't want anyone in the room. >> You can go in then. If you're If he's not detained, he's free to go. >> Yeah, he's free to go. But he can't go in the room. >> He can't? >> No, not at this time. >> All right. Just Just let it be, bro. Just They Someone called and said that they saw or me walk in there with a case of beer, but that's all they have. So >> So it's an investigation. I'm talking to him. He doesn't want to identify himself. So until we get this figured out, there's a sergeant on the way that's going to talk to him until this gets figured out. I don't want anyone to go in the room. You're free to go anywhere else. That's fine. We're not detained or anything, but that's >> Is anything going to happen if I don't identify myself? >> You can be arrested for concealing identity. Yes. >> So, okay. So, you that's what you I want you to say if you don't I to me right now, if I don't give you my ID that you're going to arrest I want you to give me that ultimatum. >> So, just hold on. You want to wait. You said you wanted to wait to speak to a supervisor. So, let's just do that. >> Okay, then. Okay, thank you. >> Okay, keep your hands out of your pockets for me. >> When the supervisor arrived, officers rushed to fill him in, but their nervous energy said more than their words ever could. >> Appreciate it. >> So, made contact with the door. He got his phone out, started recording right away. >> Okay. explained to him why we were here. Got a report that he walked in there with alcohol. Um asked him if anyone else is in the room. He said, "No one else in the room." Like you can open the door so I can see. Make sure no one else is in the room. I'm not going to do that. Okay. I'll come out here and talk to me. Okay. So he comes out. So are you suspecting of crime right now? How am I being detained? All that kind of stuff. um explained to him what was reported to us that we he's suspected of taking alcohol to his dorm room underage um and that I needed to identify him like well that's all you're saying um what is what is that going to do if I if you identify me well we're suspecting you of a crime it's a misdemeanor so I at least need to identify you what we go what we do from there whatever but doesn't he gave me his first name as Joel and doesn't want to give last name or date of birth um and asked to speak to officer Denovan or one of my supervisors. So >> cool. Okay. So right now we have minor in possession of alcohol >> possibly. >> And he asked me if anything's going to happen if I don't or if he doesn't give me his name and date of birth. I told him that potentially you could be arrested for concealing identity. Who want to go that route? Okay. I want you to give me that right here right now that if I don't give you my ID that you're going to arrest me for concealing identity. And I said, "Well, you want to talk to the supervisor? So, how about we just wait till the start here?" Um, he said that you're aware, are you aware that MSU or that New Mexico doesn't have qualified immunity? >> Yeah. So, he went down that route. So, I think that's what he's trying to get at. So, that's pretty much where we're at. >> Okay. When the supervisor tried to step in, the boy hit him with facts that left him looking like the student instead. >> Hi. >> Hi. Name and badge number, please. >> Sergeant John Love Lace. My badge number is 212. >> 212. All right. Thank you. Uh, officer said here that if I don't ID, I will be subject to arrest. Is that true? >> Possible. Yes. >> Possible. Yes or no? I need I need that ultimatum or else I won't get my ID. >> Okay. So, technically right now, yes, you could be arrested. >> Could I need a yes or no? Like, I need you to tell me if you don't give me your ID right now, I'm going to arrest you. >> Why? Why would I say that to you? >> Because I need that ultimatum cuz right now you're asking >> and I have the right to say no cuz you're asking. You're not It's not a lawful order. I need you to make it a lawful order. >> Detained for suspicion of minor um in possession of alcohol. >> Mhm. >> We need to see your ID. >> Okay. And if not, >> and if not, you could be considered an identity. >> Cuz New Mexico statute says that concealing of identity is a secondary charge. I would have to have been arrested or suspected of a crime. Right now, you hear just hearsay. >> Arrested or suspected? You're being suspected of a possession? >> On what? On what grounds? >> Okay. So, do you have any alcohol in your possession? >> I don't answer questions. On what grounds? >> So, you don't have any alcohol in your possession? >> On what grounds? >> I don't answer questions on what ground. >> Yeah, that's her room, bro. What? >> Not they are. They're trying to go in, bro. They're trying to ID me and [ __ ] but not. >> Okay. So, who are you talking to? >> I'm recording you. >> You're recording your That's fine. >> Uh, so here's the deal. By saying >> could what we are trying to do is we're trying to be cooperative with you and have you be cooperative with us. Help us clear this matter up. >> Okay. I gave him my name, Joel. >> What's your last name? You don't need my last name and you do not need my date of birth. Unless you want to run me for Unless you want to run my name through your system. Are you trying to run my name through the system? >> You have warrants for your arrest. Is >> I don't answer questions. I don't answer questions. >> I'm asking questions. I don't. It's my fifth amendment. Is it or is it not? >> So the question is is that like the officer told you, you're being suspected of having possession of alcohol underage. So in that case, the easiest way to prevent this is for you to let us know. either you had you got somebody saw you carry a case of beer. Do you have a case of beer in your possession? >> I don't answer questions. >> All right. Um, so the other the next the next step in this process would be would you give us consent to check your room? >> Nope. >> To make sure that you have no alcohol in your possession. >> I do not consent to any surges nor seizures. >> Okay. Very good. All right. Um, this is completely up to you how you want to play this. You could get a warrant or you could >> or if you have probable cause. >> Right now, we do have reasonable suspicion that possibly a crime had been committed. >> We're trying to investigate that. >> Mhm. >> You're certainly welcome to refuse if you wish. >> I know. >> But we need to ID you >> or >> and if we do not if you do not present your identification, you can face a non citation. >> You're saying could I need you to say you will. >> I'm giving you the opportunity to >> No, I need that ultimatum. I will give you my ID. You say that I'm going to go get arrested if I don't give it to you. >> So, you'll give us if we say that? >> If you say that. Yes, sir. Cuz that's already grounds for me to sit up litigation against you. >> So, you're threatening to sue us? >> I ain't threaten nothing, brother. >> That's what you just said. >> It's not a threat. >> It gives you grounds. >> It's not a threat. It gives me grounds. Does it or does it not? >> I don't answer questions. >> Okay. So, the easiest and simplest solution to this is for you to tell us your name or >> Joel. Joel. What? Joelle. >> By just saying Joel, there's a thousand Joels. I need a last name and the date of birth. >> For what? You're going to run. >> I told you want my name >> for the report. I need to have your name and date. >> You I didn't even have to give you my first name for that report. You could literally put the citizen or the or the guy or the suspect. Yes, you can. >> Yes, it does. I'm a law student in here. You're not going to come over here and try to violate my rights. >> So, I'm not trying to violate your rights. I'm trying to be cooperative with you and you be >> okay. I'm cooperate with me and accept that I'm not going to give my ID unless I'm going to I'm going to get arrested. [Music] Say it and I'll give you my ID. Just say if you don't give me your ID, I'm going to arrest you. >> You want us to threaten? >> You want us? >> Yes. I want you to give me that ultimatum if you really want the ID. >> Threaten you. That's not how this is. >> Why? Because you know you can't. You know you don't have that ultimatum. You know you can because you know that opens up for litigation. >> In a surprising twist, the power dynamic flipped. The boy spoke with authority, leaving the officers visibly rattled and unsure. >> And to make this clear, I'm detained right now, right? >> Correct. >> Thank you. >> Have to stay over. >> Uh, no. I can't. I'm in your view. >> I'm telling you, you need to stay over here. >> Don't let him intimidate you. Oh, let me stick my hand. This dude right here with scared of a 19. >> Well, I'm not scared of a 19-year-old with the phone. I have Come on, man. Don't do that. Okay. Seriously, that's just Can you see something in my car? >> Okay. Well, we would like for you to do that for us just to be cooperative. Okay. >> Like just to like for you to say what you want me to do. >> Are you googling the loss right now? >> That's really what you should be doing, man. >> You okay with that? >> Yeah. Continue. >> Are you sure you're okay with that? >> Yeah. >> Oh, thank you very much. I appreciate it. Sure. >> Okay. So, here's why we need your name and date of birth. I'm going to read you the law because you are a law student. Okay. >> According to New Mexico, it's all being recorded. >> Yeah, I know. My body camera is running. >> So I'm I'm going use my my own. >> So concealing identity consists of concealing one's true name or identity or disguising oneself with the intent to obstruct the due execution of the law. >> Am I obstructing >> or Yes, technically you are with the intent to intimidate, hinder or interrupt any public officer or any person in illegal performance of his duties or exercise of his rights under the law of the United States. >> Okay. So, your investigation is investigating that I'm in possession of alcohol, right? >> That's exactly. >> Okay. And if I don't give you if I give you my ID, is that going to tell you if I do or do not have alcohol in that room or is it just a way to find you with something? >> No. The ID is so that we can identify who we are talking to. If you wish to deny us access to that room, that is totally within your right. >> But you refusing to identify yourself to us by name and date of birth. >> Yeah. Full name, >> date of birth. >> That is concealing identity. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, just tell me if I don't give the ID, you're going to arrest me. Just say it. >> Show us your ID. We need to see your ID. We will be arrested. >> Thank you. I got that right. >> Yeah, you got that. [ __ ] pigs. For real. >> Why do you use that term? >> Cuz why the [ __ ] are you searching my [ __ ] Like, >> we're not searching. >> Yes, that's a that's a seizure of my identification. Is it or is it not? >> It's not a seizure. Is a seizure of my identification? Yes or no? >> We just need to see who you are in order to the investigation. >> Told you my [ __ ] name. >> Did I identify? >> Your legal name. >> Gave us your first name. >> What is my Joel? Not the legal name or what? >> Joel. What? >> He has my ID. Go look at it. Perfect. That's all we need. Thank you. That's all we need. Let's go down here real quick. >> No, not yet. Hold up for just a minute, please, guys. >> With no clear path forward, the officers had to wrap things up the best they could. >> Okay, so he's denying us, >> but we have him ID. So, we're going to take make sure we take a look forward. >> Yep. >> And then, um, so basically, we got called suspected alcohol during the case of it's 19 years old. >> Um, we will take a case report on it. >> Um, there'll be a case number drawn. pretty much basically he's pushing the issue on the concealing identity, but now that we've now that we've negated that, we don't have to do anymore. We will take a report just to document the >> Okay, any questions? >> Uh just the report. >> Yeah, we'll get that here. We'll get that here in just a All right. Thank you. Appreciate it, Joel. We're done. >> Okay. Have a good night. You guys know what you're running. Thank you. Hey guys, >> if we really wanted to push the issue, we could stop and lock the room down and get a get a search warrant. Um, but we have an anonymous complaint. >> So, it's really kind of really kind of one of those things that's up in the air. We don't want to we don't want to do that. >> I appreciate you though. You're a professional. Thanks a lot for that. >> Thanks. >> Okay. >> Have a good day. 2023 7816. [Music] >> Cool. >> Do you guys need anything else? >> Not right now. Thank you so much for your deal. >> No problem. Thank you guys for coming out. >> Yeah. Uh my name's Officer Purle. My badge number is 2022. Not satisfied with just being right, the boy drove the point home, turning their embarrassment into a full-blown humiliation. >> Oh, wait. They're right here. >> Hey, bro. >> Hi. >> I'm going to stand right here. >> Just listen. Zero. >> Yeah, you're listening. >> Mhm. >> All right. In the end, the officers realized that flashing a badge doesn't work on someone who knows the law better than they do. In another case of deflated egos, these officers thought that they were untouchable until a bold teenager gave them a wakeup call that eventually ended some of their careers. >> Okay, I have the right to identify you. You understand, right? >> And you can search up my face and you can search up my record. >> Okay. >> Am I detained? >> You're detained. >> For what reason? >> For what? That guy threatening me. Do you understand me? >> Okay. And then I'm going to file a complaint against you. >> Go get your camera. >> Go grab your camera. Yes. I'm allowing you to do that. But you cannot walk in my house. I have three cops on me and I'm 15 years old. Cuz you guys intruded my house. >> Are you the one driving up and down the street on the motorcycle? >> Uh I was on my gas bicycle. >> Okay. That's gas powered vehicle. You have to have a driver's license. >> Um no you don't. Not when it's 50 cc and you have a permit for it. >> The officers were forced to acknowledge their mistakes. But they were not just about to allow a little civilian teach them about how to do their jobs. At least not after they had some excuses to give. >> Well, if he didn't threaten anyone with it, there's no concern to Oh, no. Absolutely. >> But I don't think there's any reason to try writing a warrant to get in the house. >> We'll identify him through him. I'll just do TLO or whatever. >> Okay. >> And then the friend, I've got his information, their statements. I couldn't care less because they're not cooperative. >> I'll just refer to the juvenile courts if they want to screen it for charges. Great. And if they don't >> rallying the motorcycles or whatever. >> Yeah. >> I mean, I doubt that goes anywhere, but you know, all I would have done is talk to everybody and it's he says, she said I would have written it up and said, "Here's the report." >> And then he does this garbage. >> I'm going to arrest him for failure to obey a lawful command, resisting uh disorderly. >> Yeah, disorders. That's good cuz it got her attention too. >> The cops spoke with power. The teen spoke with purpose. And suddenly they were the ones on edge. >> Okay. You can do whatever, but we're done with you. >> You guys aren't being cooperative. We'll leave it at that. >> We're being cooperative. We just told you. >> You're just being mouthy. >> In the end, Michael Franch was charged with interfering with an arrest and failing to disclose his identity. A police investigation found officer Rodriguez violated five department policies. Sergeant Thor violated three, and Officer Wear violated one. As a result, the entire Park City Police Department was required to undergo first amendment training. Rodriguez and Thor received reprimands and corrective actions, but failed to complete them on time and were dismissed. In September 2021, Franch filed a civil lawsuit against Park City, claiming violations of his and Jack's first, fourth, and 14th amendment rights, seeking over $1 million and a public apology. The case is expected to take years. Moving on to this powertripping cop who thought his badge gave him the right to arrest a teenager for flipping him off. But eventually got taught the hard way that the law doesn't bend to bruised egos. >> That's not a crime. He's looking at you cuz he's like, "What the me to do?" Cuz there's it's not a crime. I know my rights. >> It's the fourth amendment to be allowed to walk without seizures or anything like that. >> You sure? >> Are you sure that's fourth amendment? You sure >> about money on it? >> What's going to be seizured while you're walking? >> My body. My person, idiot. On a cool evening, an officer stopped a teenager on the road for giving him the finger. When the conversation started, the teen made it very clear that he knew his rights. And with every word, the officer's authority began to crumble. >> Why you giving me the finger? >> I'm walking away. >> Huh? >> Am I free to go? >> Why you giving me the finger? >> Am I free to go? >> No. >> For what reason? >> Why you giving me the finger? What's your problem? >> Am I free to go? >> No. >> Do you have a problem? >> No. >> Do you have a problem? >> No. >> You don't have a problem? Then we're I can leave. Why you you're giving me the finger when you're walking? Huh? Come here. Get over here. >> What? >> Get over here. >> Is that a lawful order? >> Yeah. >> For what reason? >> Because you're giving me the finger. >> That's legal. >> No, it isn't. >> It's the law. >> What's your name? >> What's the law? >> What's your name? >> What's your name? >> I appreciate it. >> Have a good >> Whatever you >> What? Come here. >> I'm afraid of you. >> Come here. >> Get over here. >> What? >> Get over here. I'm not doing anything illegal. >> Yeah, you are. You just cursed me off. >> That's not a crime. >> Yes, it is. >> Says who? >> Says me. >> Says who? >> Turn around. Come on, >> bro. That is not a crime. >> Yes, it is. >> No, it's not. >> For some reason, the officer turned off his body camera mid confrontation only to turn it back on when backup arrived. The backup officer stepped in trying to justify his colleagueu's actions. But the teen was always one step ahead of them. >> You're being detained because you act. >> What? That's not legal. What legal right? >> Every time I rode by him twice, he shot me the finger. So I turn around and say, "What you?" >> Is that a crime? >> Problem is causing public service. >> And then he tells me to No, that's not a crime. >> Turn off big. >> Yeah, big. That's not a crime. That's not a crime. He's looking at you cuz he's like, "What the me to do?" Cuz there's It's not a crime. I know my rights. >> Who are you? >> I don't have to say any of that. >> Uh you do have been detained. >> For what reason? What legal reason am I being detained for? >> Where are you coming from and where are you? >> What legal reason am I being detained for? I need to know that. >> Why are you shooting me? Why are you >> Is that illegal? Why are you [ __ ] murder? Yes, it is. When you are cursing in public, you are causing a public disturbance. You're being a nuisance to the public. >> In what way? When he was driving past Well, I'd like to see you guys prove it in court. >> It's It's called It's called cing called from a public disturbance by being a nuisance. Not saying you're being charged with anything at that point. is detain to make sure that there is nothing wrong. Make sure that you're okay. >> What reason does he need to detain him? >> He thought maybe he thought you were signaling him down. Were you signaling to him? >> Listen, I was >> You knew very well that I wasn't signaling to you, right? I wasn't signaling. >> Well, you bringing attention to yourself. You're not You're acting strange. I'm making sure you're okay. >> Dude, that's so funny. Like, you're not here for my safety. You're not trying to protect me. >> How do you know? >> You're walking on the side of the road and you're you're cursing and you're flipping the bird >> once at him. I gave him the finger once. That will not hold up. >> Do you know him? Do you know him? >> It's not your business. I plead the fifth. I plead the fifth. Then >> what's the first amendment for? >> Okay. The public first amendment is for your freedom of speech. Okay. >> What does that have to do with with >> Was I making action? >> Am I calling for an action to be done against you? Not paying attention to listen. >> It's it's it's behavior that's out of the ordinary. Clearly, if you stopped all the way back there, I'm assuming you guys were back there and you just continue. >> We were back a bit a bit further back. >> I wasn't running. I was walking. >> Once he gets in order for you to stop, you're supposed to stop. >> I did stop when he originally said it, but I was asking is it illegal and he took off? >> Yeah, cuz I kept walking cuz you weren't you weren't pursuing at first. I only started pursuing cuz I said you big. That's when you got a little upset. >> But we're here at this point now. Okay. You brought the attention to yourself. You closed the public alarm. Well, I'd like to see you legally hold that weird because >> I'm not charging you with anything. So, I don't really need to hold anything. >> Well, I want to know from your perspective. So, you tell me what you were doing. >> I played the fifth. >> You idiot. How long have you been a cop? Tricks. >> Longer than you. >> Listen, >> longer than you. I'm not a cop. >> I don't understand what what the point of this is. >> I'm walking. That's what I'm doing. >> It's the fourth amendment to be allowed to walk without seizures or anything like that. You >> sure? Are you sure that's the fourth amendment? You sure? You want to bet money on it? >> You sure that's for the fourth man? It gives you the right to walk. What's going to be seizured while you're walking? >> My body. My person, idiot. You were about to. You said I was going to be under arrest. >> You said you were detained. You said you were going to be arrested. >> So now what happens? So now what happens? >> He just admitted that you arrested. >> He gives you a lawful order to stop and you do not. It was a lawful order though when you do not stop. >> It legally was not a lawful order. >> You do not stop then that becomes a criminal offense. And then yes, you can be put under but it's not a lawful order. Then I take it to court and then he'd get sued and I get punitive damages. I'd be rich. Is that what you want? >> That may be what you what's going to happen. It may not be what happens. Okay. Okay. I may get a normal jury. Am I free to go? What may happen is you may get No, because at this point you were detained. Okay. Because he told you stop and he didn't stop. So therefore, you need to identify yourself as a part of the investigation. So what is your name? >> Okay. I'm going to need all of your badge numbers. >> I will give you everything written down on a card. What is your >> I could give you >> If you have an ID, that's perfect. >> Am I okay? They kept trying to intimidate the teen, but the teen surprised them when he flipped the script and made them look like amateurs. >> Are you a juvenile? >> This is an illegal detainment. So I can still >> I'm not going to answer that. >> You have to answer. >> Why? >> Because you're being detained. >> I said I'll give you my ID, buddy. >> Okay. So when he goes by in the car, okay. And he sees you doing what you're doing. >> And what was going to be there? >> And what part of that caused a disturbance? That's what I'm trying to legally understand. I don't understand. Is that a body camera? >> That's what it is. >> Perfect. Perfect. Tuckeran doesn't have them. You know that. >> Tuckeran's been on back order for months. >> Because I have a lawsuit against them. That's why. And I wish they'd have body cams. >> Don't give us fingers. >> Shut the up. >> Stay out of the roadway. Stop causing a public alarm. >> Dude, shut the up. Am I free to go? >> You're free to go. >> Stop cursing. Go. >> You're free to >> The cops eventually learned that not everyone is clueless. Some people actually know their rights and aren't afraid to speak up. Next, we have this lazy cop who tried to make an innocent person a scapegoat, fail only to end up humiliated in a way that she won't forget anytime soon. >> Can you call your sergeant? >> I don't need to call my sergeant. >> Yes, you do. >> For what? >> Cuz you got to. It's your policy. You better do it. That's the thing. Call your sergeant. Yeah. For what reason? >> Cuz I asked I asked you. That's your policy, ain't it? >> No. >> Yes, it is. You want to tell me that for real? On a sunny afternoon, an officer was investigating a crime and approached a teenager just because he looked suspicious. As soon as the officer began questioning the teen, he wasted no time in letting her know that he was fully aware of his rights and would not tolerate any violations. >> At the E6 store, >> who? >> The E6 store for ecigarettes. >> How old are you? >> 17. >> You're 17. Where are you coming from? >> The wreck. >> The what? >> The wreck. >> The rec center. >> Yeah. >> What's your name? Why? >> Cuz I'm asking you for your name. >> No, I don't have to give out my name. >> Yeah, you do. Cuz I'm investigating a suspicious person and you have to give me your name. >> Suspicious ain't a crime, though. >> Uh, yeah, it is. >> Being suspicious is a crime. >> Yeah, if you're doing something Can you just step off away from the road? These people drive crazy. >> Well, I had a feeling y'all going to come. >> Said what? >> I had a feeling y'all could come bother me once I seen you. I came from the wreck. >> Yeah, cuz I was looking right at you. >> I just came from the wreck. Okay. What is your name? >> I don't need to give out that. I need to I didn't commit no crime. >> How do I know that? >> You don't need to know that. I know that. >> Can you call your sergeant? >> I don't need to call my sergeant. >> Yes, you do. >> For what? >> Cuz you got to. It's your policy. You better do it. That's the thing. >> Okay. >> But I know the law. I'm not dumb. >> I didn't say you were dumb. >> Then why you trying to play me for stupid? >> I'm not. I'm >> call your sergeant. >> You want to talk to my >> Call your sergeant. Yeah. For what reason? >> Cuz I asked I asked you. That's your policy, ain't it? >> No. >> Yes, it is. You want to tell me that for real? >> Mhm. >> Are you sure? >> 100%. What's your badge number? >> 246. >> What's your name? >> Cummings. Right here. >> Desperate to salvage her reputation, the officer attempted to explain herself to the team, but he wasn't fooled for a single second. >> All right. >> Y'all [ __ ] bro. I ain't do a damn. >> That's fine. I'm just telling you somebody called about someone that somewhat matches their description, but I see your >> What store did you say again, please? >> So, what >> what store did you say? >> The E6 store. What market? >> And where is it at? >> It's on this road a little further down. >> I came from that way. >> Okay, I believe you. >> Then why you keep questioning me if I haven't done nothing? >> Well, now that I'm looking at your pants, I see they're black and I was told they were blue pants. So, I mean, no reason to get all hyped up with me. >> No, I'm just asking why you >> Okay. You still want to speak with my sergeant? >> I'm Am I free to go? >> Yeah, I'm going to give you my card. >> Okay. >> And my sergeant's name. I'm going to write it on here for you. Okay. So, you can reach out to him if you need to. In a lastditch effort to regain control, the officers tried to come up with a new angle to reprimand the teen, but he was far too clever for her tactics. >> How are you 17 not going to school? >> Cuz I I'm not from out here. >> Where are you from? >> You don't got to worry about that. >> Well, until you're 18 years old, you have to go to school. >> Technically, I could drop out. >> But technically, have you dropped out? >> Technically, I got kicked out of school. So, you don't know me. I'm not from out here. Like I said, >> where you from? >> Don't worry about that. I'm not from out here. >> All right. Well, I'm not from out here either. >> Yeah. Stop bothering me. Let me get the car. >> Get my car. >> Thank you. >> Okay, sir. You have a good day. >> Yep. >> In the end, the cop realized that not everyone is so easily manipulated into becoming the scapegoat. Next, we have Grayson, a cop's daughter who completely humiliated her own father. >> Y'all know my father. Please don't talk to me. I haven't had anything injury. I'm just trying to grow the community like >> Okay. I need you to place your hands behind your back. Okay. >> Okay. >> Obviously, you know my dad. >> I've worked the same [ __ ] as your dad for the past however many years. >> You never gave a about me. >> Grayson. >> On the 2nd of December 2024, police officers responded to a minor crash on the freeway where a woman had hit a curb. It was clear the woman was intoxicated and the officers already suspected what had happened. However, they needed to follow proper protocol to confirm it, but the sheriff's daughter, who was expected to know better, decided to make herself a huge embarrassment. >> Driver's license, ma'am. >> I know. I'm trying to except there's a lot of, you know, wind. >> Do you know what a driver's license is? >> Yes. >> That's an ID card. >> I know. >> Can you grab that for me? >> Yes. >> So, what what did you hit? >> I didn't hit anything. Someone hit me. Well, there might it >> just stand by right here, ma'am. >> Okay. >> I have no doubt that she obliterated the curb cuz she >> They hit me. I mean, I'm cool with not any damage, but they hit me. >> Who hit you where? >> Well, they hit me um right here. >> You were leaving KFC? >> Yes. Cuz I was leaving KFC earlier, but they were like, "They didn't hit me." You know what I'm saying? >> Okay. So, >> so I was like, "Okay, cool." >> But I see your marks down there, so you weren't leaving KFC. Do you had anything dirt tonight? >> No. >> Nothing at all? >> Nothing at all? >> Do you have you used any drugs today? >> No. >> The reason I ask is your speech kind of sounds a little slur. >> I get it. I get it. >> And you said you're leaving here, but your tire marks show a different thing. >> I mean, yeah, but I'm like I don't care. Like whatever happens happens. Like I don't even care at this point. Like I'm just trying to get home, >> right? I hear you. So >> yeah, you know my dad. Like I'm just at this point. >> So where were you coming from again? I was just coming from this way. >> Okay. And you hit the curb? >> I didn't hit any curb. So, >> how did that happen? >> I don't know. Like, I was just trying to get on the, you know, I'm just trying to park. I'm just trying to go home. >> Where are you coming from? >> I'm I'm literally just coming from whatever you say. Like, >> not whatever I say. I'm asking you. >> I mean, like, I'm not coming from any type of way. I'm just coming from like, you know, Illinois. >> Okay. And where are you going? >> I'm just trying to go home. >> Where's home? >> St. Joe. >> Okay. And what's your phone number again? That's your address. What's your phone number? >> Okay. Then you've had nothing to drink tonight? >> I have not. >> You not used any illegal drugs or anything like that? Okay. Do you take any prescription medication? >> Nope. >> Okay. So, we're going to go through a series of uh testing basic coordinating all that stuff. Okay. >> Can I just go? Y'all know my father. Please don't talk to me. I don't know you. Don't talk to me. >> Okay. So, are you I need to do some tests on you. Are you saying you're not doing those tests? I already know my father, so I'm obviously going to do those tests. Like, whatever it takes me to go home, I'm trying to go home. >> Okay, let's step over out of the road. Let's step over here on this parking lot. >> Although she was trying her best to maintain her composure, there was no doubt the sobriety test would reveal her impaired state and solidify their case. >> No, just listen to me, ma'am. Relax. >> Relax and listen to me. Okay, you're going to take the tip of your >> I'm just trying to go home. >> Okay, >> you got to listen to us, okay? so we can get everything following. >> Okay, watch me and I'm going to explain it to you a couple times and then you're going to do it. Okay, whatever hand of your choice. Okay, you're going to take the focus now. Just relax. >> You keep trying to tell me that I'm focused, but I'm literally focused right now. >> I'm going to listen to his instructions. >> My instruction. Okay, you're going to take the tip of your thumb. >> Can you just put your arms to the side and watch? Okay, you're going to watch my hand. Whatever hand in your hand, left or right. You're going to take the tip of your thumb and touch it to the tips of your fingers and count 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1. That's two cycles. Okay. You're going to touch the tips of your fingers. Thumb to finger. Thumb to finger. Thumb to finger. And count 1 2 3 4. And reverse. 4 3 2 1. Okay. >> 4 2 3 4 1. >> 4 2 3 1. >> Just tip your finger like this. 1 2 3 4 >> 1 2 3 4 2 3 1 >> Okay, do it two times. 4 2 3 1 1 2 3 4 4 2 3 1 1 2 3 4 >> Okay. So, you have your high you completed high school. >> I mean, technically, yeah. But it's hard. >> Is it fair to say that you know your um your ABC's? >> I mean, 12 to 12 to ABC is kind of hard. >> Not counting. Do you know your ABC like? >> Yes. >> Okay.
