On September 11th, 2024, police officers responded to a park on Sinatra Drive in Hoboken, New Jersey, on reports that someone purposefully struck a goose with an ebike. They found a person who fit the description of the individual on the ebike. Here is what occurred next. Officer. All right. Thank you very much. How you doing, sir? How are you guys? Good. Good. All right. Thank you very much. Um, we had some a guy down at the end of this pier hit a bird. So, we have this bird holding it. His leg is severely broken. He just sped right by it. Hit the bird. It's down here. But a guy is holding the bird cuz it's pretty badly wounded. And the guy that hit the bird is at the end of this pier. He's still there. Yes. bird down here. Heat. Heat. [Music] No, I didn't know. call and see if the if there's anything we can do for a wounded duck, a geese. It's a It's a Yeah. Thank you so much. Sorry to bother you. Okay. Um, so, um, uh, my dog right, uh, over by that sink. Yes. And there was a, uh, a flock of Canada geese, and they were just, they weren't doing anything. They were just chilling. And this guy came like tearing through on an ebike uh, like 20 25 mph um, up through them. And uh first he came down, then he came back up and he just ran over this goose was the mill now. Yeah, he's straight down under his shirt. And then he came through a third time and just was like laughing at it and saying like just kind of making fun of it. All right. Um for for like the geese part, we're trying to contact animal control. Yeah. some something on animal control. I mean, usually when things like that when they come out, it it could be ours. Yeah. Um so hopefully we can get a um answer for that. I talked to the guys. Um you got him on the phone. So sorry this this is officer Martin. This is Mark. Yeah. So, they they have eyes on the guy. He's down by the gazebo all the way down. Um I'm going to talk to the male, but um we we can't Is there any services we can do for those geese? Yeah, that's the main auto. I was explaining that. Yeah. So, uh they're claiming that this man's bad. Um it will be a complaint on their behalf. Correct. [Music] All right. Um he's on the pier. Yeah. I mean millions of bikes, right? FYI for drinking down there. Uh they said electric, but it said it was going like like 20 20 miles. He's He's the guy in the teal shirt that just cast it off down. And um the the male wanted to know like what more can we do I guess you know like to charge this male and what to do with the geese and I already told him that not that much we can do. Tell him that he wants a box that he's going to put the box. Yeah, but we we don't we can't provide him with a box. I mean if we had a box laying around, we're not going to go purchase a box. It's at a point where it's his word and their word and I don't know if he want to sign complaint or anything like that but sign no complaint sign. I'mma get his ID and I'm going to tell him the animal control. Yeah. Um try to request your number through your uh your phone. What number? Um try to so he could cuz he's going to the male is going to stay with the the animal. So, we need um I mean I mean I guess we could say it. I guess we could stay, but I mean let me go over there and get his call that animal control. All right. 20 to 30 minutes, right? Yeah. It's almost over. Just I can't I don't have nothing to say to nobody. mama was going to get by so that I'm not leaving by your phone even though you know everybody's [Music] I'm just going to let him know. Yeah, I'mma go. Yeah. So, he said that he was passing by. So, in order for him not to run into a fe the two females, he swerved over and then the geese jumped in front of he and he hit the the geese. Okay. He just thought feathers came off of it and he continued to go to over here getting the Which one is his Drew? What bike you using? If I determine the wall was broken right now, if I'm trying to to determine whether or not that is the case, you provide me with the information. I avoided the lady, so I wouldn't knock her over cuz she wouldn't move. I'm saying, "Excuse me." And I avoided it. The geese ran under the bike and that's all that happened. I didn't kill a geese. I didn't run a geese over. It ran under the bike. So, Mr. months in the future so that you understand if you run into a situation like that again you should call us so that we I think it would be a problem it is so because I can understand your scenario and I'll take that story for what it is okay but in the future if you don't call us and the geese happens to die the law is still applicable so you have to call us next time okay all right do you understand yes I understand okay thank you for your time thank you have a nice Sergeant what's up? That's what I was trying to tell you that um to get his um information, his number just in case we had to go back in service cuz he was about he's wanted to take it home. Yeah, he's he said he's going to put it in. So, I don't know if you heard what I told him before. Even if it's an accident, right? Let's say he runs over there. He's supposed to stop and call us because if not, technically, you could apply the law that he was cruel cruel to the animal by not calling us to get help. Oh, that's okay. You know what I mean? That's one of that's one of the uh listen, if he did, he did. It's fine. If he's saying he's going to take he's going to care for it and bring it somewhere to to get us some help, that's fine. I'm actually surprised that the geese allowed it to get picked up. I think he's usually not alone either. No, I know. Usually like in a group. You run into a situation where someone's being difficult. This is the importance of like of you guys learning the law, right? And it's nothing wrong with you. one of you stepping away and looking up the law and reading it. Cuz when you start relaying the law to somebody, explain to them how it's entered, everything changes. I saw how everything changed. Everything changes. All of a sudden, oh, wait a minute. No, maybe maybe I can be arrested for this. And then the the scenario totally changes. So, right, because a lot of times people talk like as if they know something when they really don't know something. The law is your best tool. Yeah. you if you the law that was violated and you can tell them listen this is the law you violated and I hold you accountable money everything changes [Music] oh there he is right there oh yeah let them know that they're on their way there yeah so that was that was about like 10 minutes ago right yeah so we contacted um the guy. Yes. What did he say? He said that he was trying to avoid the females that was in front of him and then then he ran into the geese. That's not what happened. That's not at all what happened. I understand. But that's what he said. But the the main thing right now that animal control is is on their way. They said a half an hour 30 minutes and 10 minutes just passed. We went over there, we spoke to him. He I think the officer said this already with you, but his story was that he tried to avoid a pedestrian and he ran into the geese by accident. I educated him by telling him even if that was the case, you still have to call us if you injured an animal so we can come and rent. He didn't stop. He didn't stop. But also, there were no people coming. My daughter and I, my yearear-old daughter and I were down like looking at the birds like this, and he zipped through them. Um, and then he like laughed. He went that way. A crowd of people was like, "Oh my god." And then he zipped back through exactly where the birds were and said I I can't even remember what he said, but was like, "That's a [ __ ] shame." Or something like that. Okay, that is not someone who accidentally hit a bird because he was evading girls on the thing. No, that's not true. That's just not true. [Music] After finding a person who fit the description of the individual on the ebike, police identified him as a 30-year-old male. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with cruelty to animals and issued a complaint summoned for riding an ebike on a walkway.
