On December 27th, 2025, a 68-year-old activist was allegedly thrown to the ground by an off-duty ICE agent at a Shell gas station in Brookfield, Illinois. The confrontation began when the agent reportedly took notice of the man filming him from a public sidewalk while he was pumping gas into his SUV. Here are the events that occurred. Hey, do what these guys Are you involved, man? Okay. Okay. Okay. Nobody's like law enforcement or anything. Where's this federal agent thing coming into play? That's what he said. He said, "I'm a federal agent." >> That he is or you are? He said, "I'm a federal agent. He's filming me while I'm trying to pump my gas. He's got the camera in my face. You saw everything? Walking around on the side over here. I don't want anybody sticking their camera in my face. I don't know what he's trying to do with this. >> So, you were just I'm pumping my gas here. I'm pumping my gas. He parked here. He's walking over here. He comes with his camera. He's filming me while I'm pumping my gas. Starts walking around my car. Takes a picture of the license plate, I'm assuming. Comes around over here. I say, "What are you doing? Why are you filming me?" I tried to grab his phone. I don't It's my car. My car's my car. But, I don't know who this guy is. Yeah. And I I don't like him sticking a camera in my face. I want to know what he was doing. I want to get the picture and I want him to delete it. Yeah. Okay. Uh do you have any ID on you? So, what happened? I was pumping my gas. >> Okay. Okay. He comes up to the car, maybe he's 10 ft away. He's got his camera out. He's filming me. Odd. Then he comes around to the front of the car, bends down, gets the license plate. Then he comes around, and I come around the back, and I start kind of hollering, "What are you doing? Why are you filming me?" You know, and I tried to grab his phone and get the images and the videos off his phone. Okay, and there's no There's no relation before the gas station before >> Yeah. Thank you. His car and license plate and him and all that? Because I thought he um Governor Pritzker and former mayor uh forgot her last name. Asked us to document what ICE is doing. And so I I saw him leave. And you were just assuming he's ICE or something? >> Yes. Okay. Correct. >> So, that's why you were filming him. Okay. Where were you filming from? Just the parking lot? Okay. So, I got my vehicle the gray vehicle over there. >> the assumption that he's works for the government? That he came out of the Broadview uh facility. Okay. You work for the government or not? Hm? Do you work for the government or not? Hm? I mean, I don't know what you want me to do. Maybe you can follow me from my work. That's where I know That's where this came from. Okay. And you follow me from my work. Cuz cuz we we got That's the info we got is somebody's yelling this and that when we were coming over. >> me from my work. Your valid It just didn't make sense where he's just assuming he sees a Ford Explorer, right? But that's what he What's What's The I I understand that. I know. He told >> This guy followed him from Dice facility in Rogers. What guy did? This guy did. And then started filming him in the parking lot. Cuz it didn't make sense why he just started. >> And who's this chick? She's just filming. She's just filming. Okay, hi. How are you? I'm good. You're good right there. Just You check the cameras. This guy's saying that he threw him on the ground. 5 minutes. They're going to take you everything over there. You stay right there. So, after this you start hollering about all that. This guy allegedly tossed him on the ground. He was just trying to grab his phone out of his hand. Did he get on the ground? Did he get on the ground? Did he Yeah, he made him lay on the ground. Were you on the ground with him? I was not on the ground, no. Did he get physical with you at all? Uh he he was actively resisting when I tried to take his phone out. Which is why I grabbed him. She's a witness. Yeah, she's a witness. Yeah, grab If you can grab She called, grab a statement from her, grab his statement, ID both of them, then we can get them out of here. She's just filming. She's fine. I don't Did you call or not? I'll call. Is this a caravan of people? What's called here? No. This is a pain to review on this. This is a pain to view on this. I don't know what he's doing in the car. So, what what the [ __ ] is going on? So, this guy this guy is works at in Broward. This guy, I'm assuming he's like protesters or something. Followed him. Followed him from Broward here. Came up here and was videoing him, pumping gas, his license plate, everything. And then he tried to leave, the guy in front of him took pictures. This guy is alleging I don't know what the I haven't even talked to him. >> And this is the This guy's car? This car. Let me pull this up. I can't see [ __ ] out of this. Okay. You're saying You're alleging he threw you on the ground, right? >> I beg your pardon? >> You're alleging he threw you on the ground? That's what happened. Okay. Do you need any medical attention? Do you have any injuries or anything? >> I'm not injured. Okay. Thank you. >> I'm like, where were you thinking that this guy is law enforcement or federally related? And he goes, "Oh, well, they filmed about Pittsburgh asking him." And basically he followed him out of the Broadway facility. So I went up to him and I'm like, "Do you work I'm like, "What do you want me to do?" That's how I started putting two and two together. This guy through This guy through what's his Watch the footage. Let me get my jacket. I'm cold. Let me just talk to her to just to make sure she's didn't witness I don't I think she's just reporting us. Her? Yeah. She says she just witnessed him on the hand. As she was Watch the footage. It's a little choppy, but Sorry, this is taking so long, but obviously Do you Who's talking to you? We got a couple of guys here and we're getting a little busy. Do you Do you have your ID on you? I gave it to I'm sorry, what? I gave him that that my ID. No, I don't think I I gave it to that guy. He gave it to him and he ran it. Okay, perfect. That's all I'm trying to make sure. So, again, walk me through this cuz we're reviewing obviously the camera footage. What did you Did you see these people following you? Everyone that's staying here? Was he following you? I didn't notice him while I was driving. I only saw him when I got out of the Broadway gas. Okay. And he's here, you're pumping gas, minding your own business. He's obviously recording you, recording the car, all that stuff. Did you guys exchange words or anything like that? Not initially. Not until I came around the corner and I kind of hollered at him, "Why are you filming me? Why are you filming me?" What did he say? He said I just okay. And then cuz I see you guys over here. Then what happened? Okay, but you're saying you obviously initiate the contact contact with him trying to Okay. You're not injured. You don't need medical attention anything like that. You didn't run the car was this personal car? My personal Listen, I'm not We're just here. We got called here. You understand seriousness of this and the doctor saying and the things that are Listen, listen. Just so you know I I I know it's it's We have a job job to do. I understand that. How? Trying to get the phone. Where did this guy go? He's in there. Oh, okay. Okay. Don't look good. Can we get the footage from there? We're going to have to. So, do we make sure we look this all the way through? It's up to you. I'm just I understand. You know. I understand. [ __ ] grab that. [ __ ] get to my [ __ ] gun. Yeah, it's a little choppy. I'd like to try and see if from the station, too. I think it's just the cell service. There it's blurry. I can't see anything. I Most likely this guy wants to talk. Didn't get that far. I want to see if it was a first. Why don't we look at the video? Let me talk to him. Are they able to pull it up? Correct. What? Whose? License. I'm just curious. Hi. Hi. Um did you think I still have my license? He's got it right here. Oh, okay. Thank you. We got a good phone number for you and everything. Uh I I can give it to you. I can give you my phone number. First of all, thank you very much. Absolutely. We're just doing our job. I'm not here. Yep. Thank you very much for the professionalism that that you all displayed. I appreciate it. Good one. >> [snorts] >> Did you charge him? Yeah. Yeah, I did. Are we able to review the camera footage or no? I don't have any access to it. When can we get that? Let me Let me find out. If I don't have any No, I get it. I'm going to get this guy's This guy's name and I'll follow. And what we can >> Take his license plate. Yeah, I can. You can ask the guy to go. You drove here? I did. >> Okay. We're just going to grab your license plate and we'll talk outside briefly. Okay. Yep. I'll come outside. Sooner the better, yeah. But I mean, if you don't have access, well, when would the owner be in where we can get it? The owner is not in the company I I can have someone to Try and get somebody here? Did he take your phone number down or not? Okay. There's a lot of moving parts. We got a little busy here. Thank you very much. I'll be I'll be right here if that's okay. >> Where's your car? This car. Okay. I mean, I don't know if it's mine. I think it's my wife's. Sun's before 6:00. I got to wait. What's a good phone number for you? Okay, just walk me through from start to finish one more time what happened. Okay, I was at the Broadview facility. I observed >> Like protesting or just hanging out or Uh well, I I did protest and then I was then I got in my car. >> Okay. When I got in my car I noticed I was on I don't know if you know the streets, but I was on Harvard. Sure. Okay. I So I was on Harvard facing 25th and I observed a vehicle come out of the Broadview facility. >> Okay. Um at a safe distance, I followed that vehicle. Is that the same vehicle? >> That is that vehicle. Okay, with the intent of doing what? With the intent of finding out if he was in in forcing um if if if he was um conducting operations against the citizens of the neighborhood. Okay. So I yeah, I wanted to observe. Okay. Intent to observe. >> Okay. And Obviously, we have no We're in Illinois, right? We don't enforce any of that. We're just here for this uh Oh yeah, I know you don't. The state police don't. >> Okay, I'm just making sure. Yeah, yeah. No, I mean, I I understand what's going >> So you followed this car and >> I followed this car at a safe distance. I observed all traffic laws. >> Okay. And then he pulled in here to get gas. >> Okay. When he pulled in here to get gas, I pulled in here to park my car. Okay. I then wanted to get his license plate and vehicle and his face. Okay. So, from a safe distance, I walked here and then I walked toward his vehicle, but not to it. And then from a safe distance >> What do you mean it's How far is a safe distance? 10 ft away. From him in his car? From his car. Just filming him? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And I wasn't trying to hide it. I just went like this. >> this? And then I wanted to to to get his person, so I walked around his vehicle and then Stop. And where are you at? Like I You were like That sidewalk Like the public sidewalk? Yeah, that's that sidewalk over there. Okay. And then um he put the thing down and he started I can't remember uh cuz I was in shock about about what happened, but what happened is is that I can't remember if he came in the back of his car or the front, but anyway, he came right at me. And for a second, I thought, you know, I'll run away, but I've got a bad hip. I'm 68. I'm not going to outrun this guy. >> Were you still filming at that point or no? You know what? That's a good question. I'm going to look at my film. Do you want me to try to look at it right now? Yeah, well, I want you to finish telling me what happened. >> Yeah, okay. So, anyway, so I realized that I I wasn't I wasn't going to be able to run away. So, I I just said like, "What are you doing?" And he just grabbed me and like physically threw me to the ground hard. And then he had one hand where he was holding me. I don't remember where or how, but he had me restrained. Okay. And he had one hand on my phone. He was trying to grab it away. And Did you ever threaten him? Did you ever say you were going to beat his ass or did you ever you know, front harm on him anything like that? These are just standard questions we ask in situations. >> No, I don't know. I You're just filming him you're saying and he comes out of nowhere and grabs you or grabs a phone. Do you recall which one? He threw me to the ground and then he tried to grab >> one arm, two arms? It's okay if you don't remember. He He threw me to the ground with both his hands and his arms and his and his strength. Okay. He threw me to the ground. >> And where was that at roughly? I I think it's I think it's There's a sidewalk there. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> It's It's on the like other corner. >> Okay. The far corner of his vehicle. And then I said nothing. I said nothing. He might have asked me questions like, "What are you What are you doing?" or you know, whatever he said. I said nothing. Okay. And then when he was grabbing the phone away, I I said, "Stop it. Stop it." And he said, "Give me your phone." And I said, "You're not taking my phone." And then I was able to eventually grab my phone back and he was shouting things. I I wasn't saying >> are aren't physical at this point anymore. Are you still on the ground or what's going on? >> Well, eventually he released me. I don't know the exact sequence. >> Okay. But he released me eventually and I said, "You've got to de-escalate. You've got to calm down." And you said that to him? >> Yeah. Okay. Because >> Did anybody ever come in and help out or anything like that or anything? >> No, just horns beeping and people shouting. Okay. Horns beeping and shouting. And then you guys separated after that. And then we separated. Yes. Okay. Yeah, do you want to see? Yeah. We can't do the video. So the owner's out of country or there's no one else? It's It's It's hooked up. It's recording. It's just not on the monitor. Right, so we can't do that key key piece of evidence right now. All right. So Monday evening you should be able to get it up. Okay. So where are we at now? It's the final question. I don't I make sure he's got This guy is so many people grab his idea. I want to make sure he has his phone on him before he Perfect. I'll just review everything and Yeah, we're going to I mean, I was initially going to bring him back to talk to him, but you know, not without viewing this [ __ ] camera footage first. He might have it on his phone. That's what I was thinking. The whole incident? Yeah. Okay, he's recording it. He doesn't remember if he was at that point. Obviously, like any other incident, we want to make sure obviously we always do things the right way and we cannot view this footage right now. The cameras are recording, but this guy employee does not have access to it. We may not be able to get access. We're trying, but it sounds like maybe a day or two. We have everybody's contact information. We spoke to the witnesses. Obviously, I got a decent, you know, a good statement from you of what happened. Um hypothetically speaking, if the investigation shows obviously a crime was committed and you were the victim, do you want to press charges or what do you want to what you're doing Do I have to make that decision right now? You do not. Like I said, we want to view this video. We have cameras as well that captured this, but with technology not always being the best, it's kind of spotty. It's a little clicky. So, it's a better connection at our station. So, we have a a good understanding kind of what occurred, but we want to make sure obviously we gather any possible evidence of what occurred that we can. Does that make sense? Absolutely. Absolutely. Thank you very much. So, I can't thank you guys enough. >> you don't know how what you're looking And like I said, it depends on obviously I mean, where the investigation Right now, I'm still shaking And you don't you don't need medical attention, right? I absolutely do not need medical attention. Okay. But Where do you I didn't look. Yeah. Where do you reside at? It's not terribly far. Okay. But do you know um like do you know the surrounding um police? Like do you Do you uh Deputy Chief Williams? Where does he work at? I don't know. He with He knows Um the neighboring uh police. Uh I mean, I'll be honest, that has no bearing on any >> Yeah, yeah, no, no, no. I'm just dropping >> any decision we're going to No, no, no, no, no. No, I wasn't bringing it up for that reason. >> I got a good phone number for you. You got his info. Okay. See, I got I don't even know what those people said that they talked about. What did the witnesses say? They were saying that they just wouldn't see him go on the ground. Yeah, the one guy he said that The The one in the white was >> that was behind him, behind the the [ __ ] Explorer. He's sitting up northbound. He saw this guy push him to the ground, get him on the ground, and then he pulled up behind him and then [ __ ] took that out and the little [ __ ] Explorer. We're going to get the way. We're not doing anything. Perfect. Yeah. Like I said, I apologize. This is You don't have to apologize, sir. Obviously. Um I know I've asked you multiple times. Somebody ran you. Did we get a good phone number for you? Yeah, he took a dive. Okay, you got a good one? I know you said obviously you're close. We want to view this footage. And looking at it's obviously cold out here, too. Looking at the camera footage we have right here, it's a little choppy. He Whether the investigation, wherever it leads, nobody whether you're the victim, he's the victim, we don't know what anyone wants to do. So, we obviously want to wait till we get this footage, and we'll kind of go from there. All right? I can sit here and wait for that, or No, it doesn't It sounds like the owner who has access to this camera footage isn't even until Monday. So. Okay, I'm Uh give me 1 second. And let me check with the big boss, and you should be >> Yeah, I mean this is boring. That's That's all this is. It's We have a camera right there. Yeah, the Bible. What that is? Yeah. >> [screaming] >> Wow. Obviously you guys were kind of going at it like you Did you ever Are you armed? No. You weren't armed or anything like that? >> armed. Okay. And he didn't say he was going to beat your ass, he didn't threaten to kill you, he didn't threaten to inflict harm on you. I ask him the same questions. We're just going. Okay. Obviously we talked to the other two, some lady called, we got a bunch of people calling that there was like seven people fighting, people are yelling that kids out here and that's where all this comes from. So. >> I'm just waiting for him and we'll get you guys out of here and I got to tell you obviously it's not going away, which you probably assume, but we want to make sure we get anything we possibly can. And with the way these cameras are set up in town it's a little spotty sometimes cuz it all runs off [ __ ] Wi-Fi, so we can kind of see if we want to at least get it on a bigger screen. Good. Good. Good on Adam? Hey man, you're you're not looking to go back to the station and talk to us more about this, are you? No. No? Okay. All right. Um yeah. We're going to put uh I don't know if he explained Any issues, obviously call us, right? >> Okay. Um I just tried talking to the manager again. We're working on the video footage here and like I explained with our cameras, we obviously want to look at that. Um all I ask is we call just obviously come into the station or if we need further information, things like that. We told him we'll follow up with him. Um we're kind of at their mercy of when we're able to get some of this stuff. All right. If you have any questions before then, you can reach out. All right. All right. Thanks for your Yep. All right, buddy. Following a thorough investigation by local police and a review by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the off-duty agent was officially charged with one count of misdemeanor battery. He was subsequently cited and released with a court date set for March 2026 to address the incident.
