the video for today is an excellent
example of modern day police work and
highlights the ability of Columbus
police officers to work together as a
team within the confines of the law as
well as restrictive Pursuit
policies the video begins with an
officer talking to a victim whose car
was broken into items stolen from the
vehicle included a computer and a
firearm while this officer spoke to the
victim another officer not at scene
logged into the GPS tracking system the
vehicle owner used and began directing
Patrol units as well as the helicopter
to the location of the suspects in the
stolen property spikes were eventually
used on the vehicle and the suspects
fled but were also eventually caught one
thing I would like to note is the
pursuit policy of the Columbus Division
of police does not allow officers to
pursue or pit theft suspects even when
there is a firearm in the car this
forces officers to stand off as the
vehicle drives around even though the
tires have been spiked I would also like
to mention that this video highlights
the importance of having the helicopter
in the air and ready to respond
immediately rather than parked in a
hanger if the helicopter was not already
in the air it's unlikely that these
suspects would have been
apprehended southbound south of
Roberts
