What's your name, ma'am? >> Paula. >> Paula? >> Yeah. >> Are you the owner of the car? >> Yeah. >> Yeah? What is today? Paula, while we while we wait for the tow truck, you want to follow us to the sidewalk? I don't want you to be on the street. There's a lot of cars that are coming. So, just follow the officer. Joey, she's just going to follow to get off this the the street. So, just follow the officer. I don't Yeah, cuz I feel uncomfortable being on the street. We'll wait right here on the sidewalk. You You work today? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, okay. So, you came You went out of work and you went to hang out with your friend. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Your friend lives in West here? >> Yeah. >> So, you were dropping them off? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> It's good. >> You have a phone here? >> My phone? >> No. You want me to hold it for you? Okay. Miss, did you have anything to drink tonight? >> Yes. >> Yeah? What did you have? >> I can't remember what I exactly had, but I had um I went to the um I said I was Jersey City. And I had one drink. >> Okay. It was just alcohol. >> Yes. Just had one drink. I had one drink. >> Okay. All right. So, you said you plan to go home after this, right? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, since you're telling me that you did have a drink, would you be willing to participate in field sobriety tests to make you're sober enough to drive off? >> Sure. >> Okay. Cool. I just got to make sure you're good, okay? >> Sure. >> All right. All right, so you ever done one of these before? >> Nope. >> No, okay. So, basically there's three tests we're going to do, okay? It's pretty simple. For the first one, I just want you to put your feet together, hands at your sides, okay? >> Mhm. >> Terrific. Now, see this red dot? >> Yes. >> Okay, I want you to follow the dot with your eyes and your eyes only, okay? Don't move your head. >> Okay. >> Okay. Do you wear glasses or contacts or anything? >> I wear glasses. >> You wear glasses? Do you want to use them for the test or not? >> I think I can do it. I think I can do it without. >> no problem. All right, you ready? >> I'm not sure. >> Follow the dot with your eyes, okay? Try not to move your head, okay? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Good with that one, okay? Next test we're going to do is going to be called the walk and turn test, okay? This is going to require you to walk a little bit, so are you comfortable in those shoes? >> Yeah. >> Okay, cool. So, we're going to use this line right here, okay? See this line? >> I do. >> Perfect. All right, I want you to put your right foot on that line right now, okay? >> All right. >> Great. Now I want you to put your left foot in front of your right foot having heel-to-toe contact, okay? Perfect. Now I want you to stay in that position, okay? >> All right. >> Yep. Keep your hands at your sides, okay? Now stay in this position. >> Okay, so I can begin the test, okay? If you fall out of place, you can just go back in your position, okay? All right, I'm going to demonstrate it for you, okay? >> All right. >> So, when I tell you to begin, >> Okay. >> I want you to take nine heel-to-toe steps down the line, okay? >> Hold on, let me get >> About what? Perfect. Just like that, okay? >> Okay. >> So, when I tell you to begin, >> All right. All right. >> Good? >> I think so. >> All right. When I tell you to begin, you're going to take nine steps down the line, okay? It's going to look this. You're going to keep your hands at your sides, looking at your feet, counting each step out loud. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. I did five, you're going to do nine, okay? When you get to number nine, you're going to take a series of small steps to turn around, such as this. Then you're going to take nine steps back down the line. Do you understand? >> Say it one more time. >> Okay. When I tell you to begin, you're going to take nine heel-to-toe steps, such as this. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. I did five, you're going to do nine. >> Five. Okay, I'm going to do nine. >> Yep. You're going to keep your hands at your sides, look at your feet, and count each step out loud. Then when you get to number nine, you're going to take a series of small steps, such as this, turn around, and take nine more steps back down the line where you started. >> All right. >> Okay? >> One. Two. >> You can begin whenever you're ready. >> Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. >> Okay. >> You're going to turn around and take nine more steps back down the line, okay? >> One. Two. Three. Say it again. >> Nine steps. >> Nine steps. >> Yep. >> One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. >> Did you do nine yet? >> I can write more than nine. >> Okay. You can come back over here, okay? >> [clears throat] >> You have to close your eyes and take a breath. >> Yeah. All right. We're going to do one more test, okay? Last one. >> All right. >> All right. Do you have any problems with your legs or knees or anything like that? >> No. >> No? Okay. So, this last test we're going to do. We're going to have you put your feet together, hands at your sides like this, okay? Perfect. Now, when I tell you to begin, >> Uh-huh. >> I want you to pick a foot of your choice, left or right, it doesn't matter which one. >> Okay, great. >> You're going to lift it approximately 6 in off the ground such as this. You're going to be looking at your foot. Yep, just like that. >> Uh-huh. >> And you're going to be counting out loud. 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000, so forth till I tell you to stop. Not yet. Not yet. >> Okay. >> Okay. You're going to be counting till I tell you to stop, okay? >> All right. Well, where do you want me to start? >> Right there. Just keep your feet together, hands at your sides. >> Uh-huh. >> And then you're going to lift the foot of your choice, whatever you want. Keep your foot parallel to the ground, look at your foot, count out loud. 1 1,000, 2 1,000, until I tell you to stop. Do you understand? >> Say it one more time. >> Okay. When I tell you to begin, you're going to take a foot of your choice, left or right, whatever one you feel more comfortable with. >> You're going to lift it approximately 6 in off the ground such as this. See? I'll do it sideways so you can see. Okay. Not yet. Not yet. You You have to do it yet. >> Oh. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Then you're going to keep your hands at your sides, >> Mhm. >> look at your foot and count out loud 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000. Keep counting until I tell you to stop. Do you understand? >> I think so. >> Okay. Take your hands out of your pockets for me. Just put them at your sides, okay? >> Okay. >> And 1 second. You can begin whenever you're ready, okay? >> So, you want me to lift my foot up? >> Mhm. Mhm. >> This shoe is long. I don't know if this shoe is going to go on. I just want to get my keys so I can drive home. You got that top free. >> May I do it again? >> Just pick pick up your foot and keep trying it. >> Okay. 1 2 >> Keep trying. >> So, we need to You need to do it safer cuz we we don't have a cage. >> What is the end point? >> You want me to demonstrate it again for you? >> Sure. >> Okay. That's all right. No worries. >> Oh, yeah. You need a new windshield wiper. >> Okay. Now, when I tell you to begin, you're going to take a foot of your choice, your left or your right, whichever one you want, okay? You're going to lift it as high as possible and take it off the ground like this. You got that? Just like that. You're going to look at your foot, count out loud 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000 until I tell you to stop. >> Okay.
