No judgement. All right, you're good, man. Just relax. Just relax. >> Bro, I'm telling you I if you look past that, man, I'll tell you a couple names and like bro, I'm telling you like a bunch of Mexicans do, like a bunch of like big >> Hispanic people? >> A bunch of big area. Yeah. Bro, like I'm talking about like like business owner, like dealer, like Mexican cartel, man, like I >> Yeah. Criminals will do anything to hide any incriminating evidence. Sometimes they succeed, but other times cops can't just shake off the feeling that there's more to the suspects than they are actually [music] revealing. >> Is there anything in the vehicle that you should not have in the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> And you have needles on you? You have needles on you? You're not a diabetic. You probably got a trafficking amounts, too. Holy [ __ ] Cuz it's over 4 g. So, here are several moments when cops couldn't shake off that feeling and suspects were hiding something. Starting with the moment a routine traffic stop on a U-Haul driver took an unexpected turn when an officer spotted something illegal inside the vehicle. >> Hey, boss. Hey, so it smells a little bit like uh do you have a medical card? >> There we go. There we go. That's why you didn't want to stay. >> I don't know. >> That's why you wanted to walk away. >> All right, so we got some pills in here that don't belong in this bottle. >> Yeah. >> On January the 2nd, 2026 in Florida, an officer on routine patrol spotted a U-Haul truck with a damaged windshield [music] and initiated a traffic stop. At first, it appeared to be nothing more than a routine equipment [music] violation, but as he pulled in behind the vehicle, he realized it matched the description of a vehicle linked to a recent [music] domestic-related call. >> Hello. Sergeant Mel Simon with TLS Police. Well, your windshield's completely smashed, so that's an issue. It's an obstruction of the view, so Do you have your license and then the vehicle registration? I know it's a U-Haul, but But usually it's in the glove box. Oh, there isn't one? Okay. Can you roll down that window for me? >> Or the other officer? Is it a >> Yeah. >> Thank you. I'll be right back with you. >> I was told you guys are looking for this and >> I heard you guys >> The window is completely shattered anyway, the windshield. >> All right, let's look at the pictures. >> Oh, thank you. >> Hi, how are you? What is up with this windshield? Can you roll that down? Will it roll down anymore? Thank you. So, what happened to your windshield? It got bashed in? >> They bashed it in. >> A friend? Okay. >> Yeah, you got glass all up on your dash there. >> All right, you have a Did they take your driver's license? Did they ask you for it? Okay. All right, my friend. I'll be right back, okay? >> Just as the officer was running the driver's information, another officer noticed something suspicious. It was a small detail, but to an experienced eye, it stood out immediately. >> Hey, boss. Hey, so it smells a little bit like um do you have a medical card? >> What? >> What? Do you have a medical card? >> No. >> All right, you need You want to Do me a favor? Just jump out for us. >> Okay. Do me a favor. Come over here. Come this way, okay? So, being that you don't have a medical marijuana there's some shake in the front of the car. We can search the car, okay? Do you have anything illegal on you? >> No. >> No? Okay. So, what he's going to do is he's going to search your pockets. >> I'm not going to say it's a legal search. >> Okay, but we have probable cause. You don't You don't have to have it. >> Yeah, it's not about >> That's sort of a vehicle, not me. I'm not going to say >> But if there was an illegal items in the >> No, there wasn't. >> Yes, there >> Would you like to >> show me >> you? >> Yes. >> Okay. Come on right over here and I'll show you. >> Okay. >> Do you see this right here? >> Yeah. >> That's called shake. That's illegal to have. Yes. It's not legal in the state of Florida. >> I said it's from the greenhouse. I explained that already. >> Okay, but wait. If it's still shake. >> It's from the greenhouse. It's not It's not medicine. So, it's also not in the not in the original container. >> It needs to be in a >> It needs to be in a container. The original container from the greenhouse regardless of what it is. >> Just as the officers were questioning him, his friend suddenly showed up with a story of his own. Seemingly hoping it would be enough to get him off the hook. >> Cuz he has a destroyed front windshield. >> Yeah, but they said something about that like a couple weeks ago and made this >> I don't I don't I wasn't there, but I don't know. I didn't even know this was the same car. I just pulled up at the back of the traffic stop. That's all. That's what That's the reason for the stop cuz of the windshield. The traffic violation with the windshield. Okay. You guys from Florida or Arizona? >> From Florida. >> Florida I got Arizona tag. >> And then you got that from >> Oh, the one here in town? Okay. Yeah, if they rented it to you that way. All right. Do me a favor, just stay over here. I'll let him know that that's how you guys rented it, okay? That's the um That's the other half from the the 22 verbal from earlier La Concha. He's saying that they rented it to him that way. >> Okay. >> We were at this guy earlier. He's kind of up and down. >> He's saying they rented it to him that way. >> That's what he said. He rented it here in Key West down here. >> They they reported it before I got here. And he collected it and told you to drive, but that's obviously not the case. >> He said the same exact thing. So, but that's obviously an infraction. >> The officers, seasoned enough to recognize when something didn't add up, could tell that there was far more to the story than what they were saying. Far more than the duo was willing to admit. >> And without a medical card we can't tell whether or not he's got what it it's not in a container. So, that's what gives us probable cause to search the vehicle and and you. >> Well, it's not it's not a detainment. It's not a choice. So. >> Okay, well at least I tried. It looks like there's illegal items in the car. Well, then we'll go to the car. Okay. All right, come back this way. >> Don't worry. Don't go over there. >> I'm not. >> Hey, stop, bro. Stop. >> Hey. >> Relax. >> Get off of me. >> I'm telling you I'm a man of law. >> Is that >> Get the [ __ ] OUT OF THIS THING. >> YOU GET BACK. >> BACK UP. YOU YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN, SIR. Get on your stomach. Get on your stomach now. >> PLEASE, STOP. PLEASE. >> YOU'RE GOING TO BE FINE. YOU'RE GOING TO BE FINE. OKAY? >> Y'ALL ARE detaining me, by the way. Very very rough detainment. >> Okay? >> [cheering] >> Stop it. >> [screaming] >> Stop. Stop. >> Thank you. That's my car, sir. Appreciate that. >> Get up. Stand up. >> Y'all act like you're the only cops in the world. Y'all >> Those are crickets. The law's the law. >> Y'all can detain me roughly. Try to scare me. >> Can I talk to the officer? >> Not right now. You need to go 25 ft over there. >> You cannot talk to an officer. >> I am an officer. >> No. >> No. >> Why? >> Not right now because he's detained. So, I'm going to tell you one more time or you're also going in cuffs. 25 ft. Go. Thank you. 25 ft. 25 ft. >> Widen your stance. Widen your stance. Widen your stance, sir. Let go of this. >> No. >> Nope. >> Let go. There you go. There we go. >> There we go. >> There we go. >> That's why you didn't want to stay. That's why you wanted to walk away. >> I wasn't walking away. >> So, your whole I didn't do nothing story, it just fell apart. >> Uh just stop. >> There we go. Now, the rest of the story comes out. See all that? Racism, N B S you were talking. It's all lies. All lies. >> So, we're not the ones being >> You sit upon a throne of >> Yeah, they're so being rough for no reason. Micro aggression. >> At last, the officers' suspicions had been confirmed. What they found on him was enough to justify every instinct that they had from the start. But, if he was carrying that much on his person, the officers could only imagine what else might be hidden inside the U-Haul. >> It's always someone else's fault. We're going to get in this vehicle right here. You don't know what violence is, buddy. If you think that's violent, you've never experienced violence. What's that Velcro for, buddy? Holding up your pants? My mouth? It's actually kind of funny. >> He's got it. I'm going to get jumped. >> Yeah, that's you stand still again? You got anything up in your crotch? There's your partner. If you got anything else on you, let me know. If you introduce it to the jail, it's going to be another felony, okay? And they're going to Yeah, they're going to scan you. It's a felony. Go ahead and take a seat. I don't know what this is all about. What's happening? Going cold. >> That? >> I take it this is his other half? >> Yeah, that's what your partner was telling me that he's the other half of the domestic at the Casarina, I guess. >> Well, I thought he was. >> I mean, those two. >> Yeah, yeah. I didn't know who this guy was. Yeah. >> Yeah, so he's the other half of driver. >> Okay, got it. >> Good boy. Ah, good boy. Good boy. Good boy. Good boy. >> Any hiding holes here? Look. Pay attention to these little details. This would be a perfect hiding hole for something, right? All right, so we got some pills in here that don't belong in this bottle. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah, maybe maybe This is a pain reliever, acetaminophen. >> So, are they the Let's see what the >> Well, 5525. >> Looks like he's eaten half, so Got a scale. >> That's in the trash. Not my trash but And then >> In the end, he was charged with resisting arrest and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. As suspicious as the U-Haul driver was, he was nothing compared to this next suspect who genuinely believed he could outsmart the cops. >> Is there anything in the vehicle that you should not have in the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> All right. >> So, it was Is there >> in the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> You smoked it all already? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Any >> No, sir. >> Any >> No, sir. No, sir. >> You got anything on you? >> I do. >> What do you got? >> I have a firearm. >> You got one on you? >> I do. >> On March the 23rd, 2024 in Pensacola, Florida, an officer on routine patrol spotted a vehicle swerving erratically and initiated a traffic stop. At first, it looked like another impaired driving investigation, but as the encounter started to unfold, the officer began to see that there was more to the driver than meets the eye. >> Come on out. >> What's up, man? >> Hey, officer backup Pensacola Police Department. Good. You all right? >> Yeah, yeah. I just pulled in I was going to go bowl down there with my friends, but I had seen you like literally the moment I pulled in down here, you pulled on your lights, so I just stopped right here. I don't know whose house this is. >> I know you don't because it's uh abandoned. >> Oh, for real? >> Yeah, it's for sale. You pulled into a house with a for sale sign right in the front yard. >> they uh I thought they had uh sold it like 2 months ago. >> I don't know, but I know you didn't live here. >> Yeah, yeah. No, I had pulled in cuz you had flicked your signs on. I live uh not I don't live down there, but my friend does live down there, and I I saw you following me, and I was a I was figuring you was going to get me to the house. You had caught me a little early. >> Where are you coming from? >> Uh right down uh um it's uh you know the road with the um UPS trucks? >> Okay. >> I was coming off there. I don't know if they have a road cuz whenever I go into Google, they don't have a road. >> Got you. >> So, I was just coming off of there. I just came off of work. I just went uh see my friend um he had a little bit of money he owed me, so I just went and seen him and then I'm going home now. I live um right off of Knight. >> Right off of Knight? >> Yeah. >> heading home? >> Yeah, once once you had pulled behind me though, I ain't going to lie, I got a little scared. That's why I pulled down here. >> Why were you scared? >> I I just I just fear police. >> Oh, yeah, you're shaking a lot. Why are you shaking so much? >> I fear police, man. >> Why do you fear police? >> It's just um last time my brother had got caught behind police, they had um taken him to jail with nothing. >> Interesting. >> Yeah, but he was also a minority. >> Right. >> So. >> So, you just got off work and you were headed home? >> No, I got off work um what time is it? >> What's time you think it is? >> 10:12. >> I was about to say, my my clock says 11:12. >> I had um >> What time did you get off work? >> I had got off work around uh 9:30 and I went to my uh friend's house just because he had a uh little bit of money he owed me. >> Mhm. >> I let him uh borrow a little bit of money so he can go get some groceries. >> Right. >> And uh he told me he had the money tonight, so I just went up pulled by him. Me and him talked for a little bit and then I left home. So, if it says 11:12 on my clock, then it's going to be about 12:10 now. >> So, 12:10? >> uh 10:12 now. >> 10:12? >> Yeah. >> Okay. You got off work 9:30, went to your friend's house. >> Yeah, I went uh no no no, I didn't get off until like 9:45, 10:00. Yeah, no, they had me late today. >> Got you. >> Cuz uh they had me on some um >> You got a license on you while we're talking? >> I do. Yeah, yeah. >> For some reason, the officer could tell the suspect's story wasn't adding up, but knew that people trying to hide something often reveal the truth themselves when given enough time. You got registration and insurance as well? >> I do. I do. Um, my insurance is supposed to be updated next month, so I don't know how my dad did that >> yet. >> But um >> Car's in his name? >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's in his name, but it's also in his insurance, but beginning of April 20th >> Uh-huh. >> I think it's supposed to be in my name. >> Okay. >> So, here, I can give you the insurance. >> You got anything illegal you shouldn't have in the vehicle? >> Huh? >> Is there anything in the vehicle that you should not have in the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> No guns? >> No, sir. >> No >> I had um I did have a uh sword that I had a >> [laughter] >> I did have a sword that I bought off my friend. >> Yeah. >> But um again, I had dropped it off at my friend's home uh at my friend's house just in case, you know I'm saying, I told him that I would come get it on any circumstances that I need to take it home, but as of right now, this needs to stay at your house. >> Okay. >> I told him that. I was like I was like I was like there's no point in me taking it home. There's no, you know what I'm saying? Just in case me me gets caught up, I don't need it. >> Okay. >> So, here's the uh I think this is my insurance. And then Let me see what this is. Yeah, this is the insurance. >> And you got the registration? >> Um I was about to say, if you don't even got If you ain't got it, I got it. >> Uh, I got you. >> Yeah, yeah. It's in my phone, it's dead, so I can't really see it. Here it is. >> That's your registration? >> Why you Why the [ __ ] I know that's my uh cuz I had gotten a ticket not a not a while ago. >> Uh-huh. >> Uh, I think November or Decem- or December? >> Uh-huh. >> I had got a uh ticket for going unlawful speed. Is this it? >> No, that's my registration That's my license, isn't it? >> No, my license. >> Not my license. My insurance. >> That's your insurance? >> Is this my insurance? I really don't know, man. Like Like I I ain't going to lie. I had got my first car This is my first car November. >> All right, bud. So, hear me out real quick, okay? The reason why I was So, I didn't get behind you to follow you, right? The reason why I got behind So, that's That's your buyer's guide, all right? That's your warranty stuff. >> Yeah, yeah, that's what it is. That's what it is. >> Yeah, I don't need that. You can have that. >> Can I look at this? >> Your registration Your registration's right there next to your hand where you just put on the seat. No, other one. That's your registration. I'm sorry, man. I'm sorry, man. Let me see that. >> What? >> All right. So, the reason why I was pulling you over is cuz you were swerving all over the damn road. You were going into the oncoming lanes of traffic. Any reason for that? >> Nah, I ain't going to lie other than paying attention to my phone, trying to get >> Your phone is dead. >> Nah, my phone before you had pulled me over was on like 2%, you know, it's iPhones. They They They [ __ ] up all type of ways. >> Uh-huh. >> Um I had my insurance pulled Not my insurance. My address pulled up and I I guess I was >> your address pulled up? >> I did. >> You don't know where you live? >> I do. I do. It's just kind of where from where I came from. It's just the way that I was pulling out. >> Yeah. >> I didn't know exactly which way to go. >> All right. So, here's the deal, right? So, the reason why I was pulling you over is cuz you were swerving in your lanes, right? >> Right. >> And then when you made this turn here onto What is it? >> Uh >> Shade. >> Maribel? >> Under No, it's Shade. >> Shade, okay. >> Yeah. So, you made your left-hand turn onto Shade, you almost hit the curb on your right-hand side. You made too wide of a turn, almost hit the curb. >> Right. >> And it's kind of weird you pull into a park uh a house that's abandoned and it ain't yours. See how that's a little weird? >> Yeah, no, no, no. >> All right. So, my worry is that you're safe to drive, okay? >> Yeah. >> Have you been drinking anything tonight? >> Uh no, sir. I did smoke. I did smoke. >> Okay, what did you smoke? >> Uh just a little bit of a little bit >> All right. What time? >> Uh 9:45, 9:50. Right before I got off of work, I had a little bit >> You smoke at work? >> Uh no, not at work, but right after I got off, I literally I'm not I'm not going to lie to you. I pulled right down the road, got away from the building, and started smoking. >> Apparently, he was confident that he was already one step ahead of the cops and in no time would be on his merry way home. >> All right. >> Is there any vehicle? >> No, sir. >> You smoked it all already? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Any >> No, sir. >> Any >> No, sir. No, sir. No, sir. >> See? >> No, sir. >> Nothing? >> No, sir. >> Nothing in the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> Okay, do you have any problem >> Yeah, I was about to say, unless you want deodorant. >> No, I don't want deodorant. Do you mind if I search your vehicle? >> Yes, sir. Go ahead. >> I can? All right. Well, first thing I'm going to have you do, all right, is I'm going to have you step out for me. Do not move. Do you understand me? >> Yes, sir. >> Do not move. >> Well, >> Do not Stop. No, stop. Do not move. >> I have a question. >> Stop before I let you go. Come here. Step out. >> Go ahead. Um this is >> Turn around. Right now, you're just being detained, okay? You're not under arrest. >> my firearm. >> When I ask you, there's a gun in the vehicle and you tell me no and you got one right between your damn legs, I got a problem with that. Do you understand me? >> I'm going to get you right. >> Step back. >> Yes, sir. >> You got anything on you? >> Yes, sir. >> I do. What do you got? >> I have a firearm. >> You got one on you? >> I do. >> Where is it? >> It's under the uh it's under the seat. >> Do you have anything on you, on your person right now? >> no, no, no, no. Other than maybe a vape. >> You asked me if there was a firearm on me. If there was a firearm in the car, that's >> I said, "Is there anything in the car that's going to get you in trouble? Any guns?" And you said, "No." I said, "Knives?" You said, "No, I have a sword." >> You said if there's anything on me. I I I won't lie to y'all. This time >> You're only in handcuffs because you lied to me about the gun. >> Yeah. >> Okay? We'll worry about that later. >> Mhm. >> Right now you're detained, you're not under arrest, okay? >> Mhm. >> What I'd like to do is take you out of handcuffs and do some field sobriety exercises. I just want to make sure you're safe to drive. >> Mhm. >> Okay? You based on your driving pattern and things like that. >> Yeah. >> Are you willing to do field sobriety exercises? >> Yes, sir. >> Like I said, you're not under arrest right now. You're just detained because of the gun. That's why it kind of got tense there for a minute, okay? But if I take you out of handcuffs, are you willing to do some field sobriety exercises? >> I do. The only problem I will have is the um like the whole feet sobriety test is because I I have basically I have terrible power. >> Terrible power? >> Yeah, like terrible balance, not power. Balance. >> Okay. >> Go over my I uh you can go over my doctor records and stuff like that. I have terrible power. >> Okay, we'll talk about all that. We'll talk about all that. Like I said, you're not under arrest. I'm going to take these handcuffs off you and then we'll do some field sobriety exercises, make you make sure you're safe to drive, okay? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. >> Once the officer administered the standard field sobriety test, he of course failed it miserably, confirming what the officer had suspected all along. At this point in the investigation, no amount of excuses or smooth talking [music] was going to get him out of this situation. >> With that in mind, do you want to talk to me? >> Uh >> So, what I'm going to ask you about is the gun, right? >> Right. >> So, the gun's stolen. >> Right. >> All right. >> Yeah, yeah. I ain't going to lie to you. There's no point in lying. Like y'all going to figure it out. >> Yeah, right. Exactly. >> say y'all going to figure it out. >> it out, right? So, >> Y'all going to figure it out. >> Keep your feet inside. >> My bad. >> My bad. Keep your feet inside. >> My bad. >> So, who'd you get the gun from? >> Uh I can't lie to you. I don't know. >> Where'd you get it? >> I uh there was one night I had um just went out. I was uh I was going at least, at least 150, 200 yards from the radius. >> From where? >> Uh, from uh uh 4805. It was >> When was this? >> And again, man, you know what I'm saying? Like, I'm not saying it was perfectly legal. I'm not saying it was perfectly right, but I'm I'm I'm just looking out for myself, man. I'm scared. >> I got you. So, you you took the firearm out of the vehicle. >> I have. >> Okay, so no one gave it to you? >> No. >> No one sold it to you? >> No. >> Okay. >> I will I will tell y'all exactly what I'm going >> was Did you know it was stolen? >> Uh, I won't say I would I was knowing it was stolen just for the sole fact that so much has happened in Pensacola. I can't promise that a firearm would come back stolen or come back dirty or come back with on it or come back with a robbery on it. >> Well, you said it You said it probably has It probably has a crime on it. What crime would it have on it? >> No, I mean, I wouldn't say it has a crime on it. The only crime on it it would have on it is the robbery. >> What robbery? >> Me taking it. >> Oh, you're saying the >> Yeah, yeah, that's probably that's probably the only crime on it if that's even reported. >> Right. >> But then again, like >> Well, it's reported stolen from somewhere. I don't know if it's if it's reported stolen from when you took it out of the car or if it's reported stolen from before that, but it's it's stolen. >> I was about to say, I mean, and I know when gun law possessions, if it's in your possession, it's in your possession. >> I mean, yeah. >> It don't matter about none of that other >> So, is that why you were so nervous? >> A little bit. >> Is that why you were shaking so damn much? >> Yeah. I was scared, man. I was scared, man. I had a gun on me. I had a gun under my seat. I was scared. >> asked you and you told me no, you didn't have one. >> I didn't just for the sole fact that if you were to have, like, if you didn't search the car, you would in your right mind at least think, like, hey, he didn't have a gun on him. And I wasn't going to pull the gun. Man, look, people that pull the gun pull on police, you're stupid as hell because you pull the gun like, sure, you might get one police officer, but all them other ones are coming after you. >> Yeah. >> So, I would never pull it on a police. I was just I was just scared. I just didn't want to get caught. You know what I'm saying? Like it wasn't under any circumstance of hey, I'm trying to hide from police. >> you know you're not 21. You can't even have a gun. >> I do. I do unless unless it's gifted to me. But then again, that gun wasn't gifted to >> if it's gifted to you, you can't conceal carry a pistol if you're under 21. You really want to conceal carry a pistol. >> So, if I get a pistol conceal carried to me, I can't even have it in my uh like gun in here and mag in here? >> No, you're not 21. >> In the end, he was charged with larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, and DUI. Speaking of officers knowing that suspects were hiding something, here's the moment when officers caught on a disturbing piece [music] of evidence while trying to help a driver who was found slumped over in his vehicle. >> What's going on today, man? >> I was taking a nap. >> Taking a nap? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> What's going on, man? >> It's all good. >> Uh give me your wallet. Don't don't grab it. Let go. >> Hey, hey, I'm sorry. >> And you have needles? Do you have needles in your I mean, you're not a diabetic. >> Sir, I don't >> So, is this why you don't want to Is this why you don't want to come out? >> He's probably got trafficking amounts, too. >> Holy [ __ ] Cuz it's over 4 g. >> On September 1st, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, officers were dispatched to a parking lot after reports of a man slumped over in the driver's seat of his vehicle. Upon arrival, their priority was to check on his welfare. >> Yeah, some of my questions have probably been >> Half broken. >> I'm sorry. >> What's going on today, man? >> I was taking a nap. >> Taking a nap? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Where are you Where are you staying at nowadays? >> Uh ex-girlfriend. >> Ex-girlfriend? >> Yeah. >> What Where's her address? How far away is she from here? >> She's at a hotel over there. >> Say that again, I'm sorry. >> She's at a hotel. >> Hotel? Oh, which which hotel you staying at? >> Hotel Holiday Inn. >> Which location? >> Uh I'm not sure what day it is. I don't remember the day. >> Which one? >> Uh 8th and Fair. >> You guys take a blood pressure thing or not? >> I don't think so. >> Okay. You got a blood pressure >> All right, ma'am. Cody, we'll My partner's on the way, but we'll we'll get you out. We'll just make sure you're all right. They said you answered some questions half appropriately, but if you just answer them completely and properly while we're here, then we'll uh we'll get you out of here, all right, boss? >> All right. I told him lady. >> Huh? >> I told you she was joking with you, man. She was joking >> You said you was joking with her? >> Yeah, I said it was a joke. >> Oh, that's funny. That's what it is. But just so we can uh make sure you're all right. We'll we'll get you out of here, all right? >> Be careful. >> Okay. So, you got a social? >> Uh I don't know. >> You don't know what? Do you have any other form of ID on you? Cuz nothing's coming back with your name on it. What's your name Name and date of birth you just gave me? >> Cody Smith. >> Cody Smith? >> Cody Smith. >> C O D Y? >> Yes, sir. >> Uh I got to be able to identify before I let you go, so >> It's Tennessee. >> Tennessee? >> Yes, sir. >> Uh you have a Tennessee DL? Eventually, he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, [music] and other traffic violations. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, along comes this crazy moment when officers found something truly insane during a routine [music] traffic stop. >> You know how fast you were going? Nah, you were faster than that, man. Yeah, I saw you as you were coming around the corner, man. I I know you Yeah. Yeah, you you were braking, yeah, you were going going about that fast when you went past me. I do about 90. Yeah, you saw me when I came around and you applied the brakes, I mean. I get it. Where are you coming from? Indiana? All right. Is this your rental then or what? Yours? You got your ID with you? Anything inside the vehicle I need to know about? What's that? No. Anything What's that? No. Eventually, the driver became upset with the cop for asking too many questions, a decision that would later cost him dearly. >> Traffic stops lead into a lot of different things, man. No. Traffic stops lead into a lot of different things. One thing will lead on to say to another. Going on, just asking questions. I know I'm making sure everyone was on the straight and narrow, you know? That's all. That's all. You be Okay. Yeah. No, you'd be surprised what we find out here. You know, find a bunch of coke in the other week. Traffic stop simply for speed, so all right, fair enough. Well, I'll be right with you. >> The cops had discovered that the vehicle was a rental, and the fact that the driver had been upset when questioned made him more suspicious. It was at this point that he decided to question the driver and his passenger separately. >> Come on out over here, man. This way. There you go. All right. Are you on probation out of Minnesota? >> No, sir. >> No. >> No, I'm not. >> Were you on probation before? >> No, sir. >> No. When was the last time you got arrested? >> Uh probably like a few months back or something like that. >> What was that for? >> Uh I got arrested in a car in a vehicle with some guys, so >> All right. >> About like 2 3 months ago or something like that. I got arrested with her. >> What did they charge you for though? >> Uh PC um weapons. >> Okay. >> I don't know to be honest. Like I'm trying to think back, but like I got arrested like probably like a month or two or something like that. Probably 2 months ago. >> And that was for what you just said? >> Say anything. >> And that was for what you just said? >> Yeah, I believe so. Yeah. >> When was the last time you got a drug charge? That you at least got charged >> That was I guess it was paraphernalia in the vehicle and they and they towed the vehicle. >> It's now becoming clear to the cops that Eric had something to hide. No matter how hard he tried to hide it, it was obvious that he was very nervous. >> Is there anything inside the vehicle tonight, man? >> No. >> If you got a little bit of weed or a pipe, I'll toss it, but >> I don't have [ __ ] >> All right. >> I didn't lie to you about that. She just really just picked me up from Indiana. I would have flew, but the [ __ ] cost too much. And I was trying to take the bus, but I still didn't have no way from Indiana to get to Chicago pretty much. The Mega Bus is the cheapest [ __ ] >> Yeah. >> They don't have that up there in the >> How did you get down there? >> Say that again. >> you get down there? >> Where to Indiana? >> Yeah. >> I drove down there. I drove with my brother to Indiana. This is a while back. >> a A weeks or something like that. >> All right. A week ago, two weeks ago. >> You don't even know when it was. >> had it. No, yeah, it's like two weeks ago. It ain't that long. I've been down here for like 4 days. My sister basically had a housewarming party, so I've been down here. >> What's yours inside the vehicle right now? >> I can't hear you, though. >> What's yours inside the vehicle? >> What do you mean, what's mine? >> Bags. What What's yours? >> My duffel bag. >> Yeah. Is that it? >> Yeah. >> Does she have any bags? >> Um yeah, she got her backpack. >> All right. Do you have a problem if I search your bag? >> Say that again? >> Can I search your bag? >> Yeah, I'll say you can search it, but I would want to know why. Like, do you not believe me? >> No, I don't. >> All right. Well, if I give you my bag and search my bag, I can go about my way and stuff. >> Yeah, if you guys got nothing, you're going to be on your way. >> What do you mean, got nothing? It's nothing in the car. We don't got nothing about that [ __ ] Nothing in the car. >> Any large sums of cash? >> Say that again? >> Large sums of cash? >> No, sir. >> No? That's why we're just trying to make sure that we're on the straight and narrow, you know? So, as long as you're not doing nothing crazy in there. >> I don't have nothing, but I don't I don't I don't like the fact that you want to search everything cuz it's like you don't believe me. But, I can give it to you and show you like all of it. >> Yeah, people lie to us, man. >> so you want me to You >> Just hang tight here. I'm just going to chat with her. All right. When the cops questioned the female occupant, the situation began to take a different turn because their stories did not collaborate. So, do you have a problem if I search the vehicle? >> I don't I don't think that's necessary. This is all beyond I don't know what what this is getting at, but I'm starting to feel kind of like offended. Almost. I was You guys pulled me over, and again, I'm a student. >> Yep. Yeah, and I'm asking you because you're you ran through the vehicle and you're in the vehicle. Cuz for what I see on on the on the interstate out here, it's not necessarily common to get a get a rental that's from Chicago and be driven up to the cities and returned back to Chicago with his criminal history and whatnot. >> Okay, so it's based off of his Well, and you have some stuff that's whatever. And I'm not worried about that. I'm just making sure that there's that he's not in possession of any firearms, all right, because he's a convicted felon, and that you don't and that you don't have any large sums of cash, that you're not that you're not bringing stuff from one place to another. All right, you're still good with me searching your bag? >> Well, I wish you say what happened, bro. I'll tell you. >> I don't know, she doesn't like me, I don't think. >> I'll be honest, she was she was upset. She's tired. >> Yeah. No, but I mean, she spelled it out with everything that's kind of weird, you know? She spelled everything out that's kind of weird. >> She spelled everything out. What she talking about? >> I mean, to get a to get a rental last go back, you know? You you don't even know how long you've been in Indiana. Because when I first asked you >> me to get on the phone and call and verify? You can hear my sister talk. >> No, but you know, the first answer was a week and a half, and then you and then you said a she told me a week, and you told me like a month. Back here. >> See, that's how I know you was over just listening. It was a month cuz you asked questions in three different shapes and forms. I'm I'm very familiar with police information. >> At this point, the situation was getting tense, and Eric quickly became very defensive. As a result, the cops deployed a K9, and it was there that his house of cards came crashing down. >> Can I search your bag? >> Uh no. >> All right. You hang tight. I'm going to go get my certified narcotics canine. Stay there. >> I'm going to get it, bro. >> Nope. Stay there. >> I'll get her [ __ ] too. To be honest, you can get your dog out, too. But, I'm telling you, bro, I really just like the way you said that to me like jumping around there, "Can I search your bag?" Like, I'm trying to be like you, like she's upset, bro. She's pissed, so that's that's getting on her nerves. Like, you pissing her off. That's my girl, bro. Understand me. >> that's fine. Is there anything inside the vehicle? >> No, sir. >> The K9 had notified the officers that there was some narcotics present in the vehicle, and they proceeded to do an extensive search of the vehicle, but were in no way prepared for what they were about to find. It was at this point that the situation completely took a turn for the worse. >> Take a seat. >> What is happening? >> Take a seat. Take a seat. Put your hands behind your back. Where are Stop right now. Put your hands behind your back. >> What's going on? >> I'll come talk with you in a bit. >> Well hidden in the trunk was about 5 lb of about $100,000.
