Donovan Rogers in Florida a police officer named Donovan rers was caught breaking the law he was driving his police car while drunk and going very fast another officer saw him speeding at 110 mph even when the police tried to stop him Roar kept driving for almost 5 miles when roer's car stopped the officers were very careful as they walked towards it they were ready for a fight but what they saw roar's their fellow officer came out of the car he looked drunk and could hardly stand up [Music] car how many people in the car out get out [Music] around walk right here walk right here shut up get was very different from the confident officer he used to be he said he stopped driving fast as soon as he noticed the police were following him but nobody believed him he sounded sorry and couldn't believe what was happening but when he refused to take a breath test things got even worse for him the punishment came quickly and was very harsh Roar lost his job at the Miami D Police Department his career in law enforcement was over and he could only watch it fall apart Brian philipak a 47-year-old lieutenant from washor County Michigan had a problem when the police stopped him and asked for his driver's license things started getting serious but Brian seemed too confident maybe because he was used to dealing with the law himself can I see your license [Applause] proof okay you got your ID Department ID and driver's license reason why I'm stopping you is we got multiple reckless driving calls about you okay and then when I'm following you you're hitting the shoulder of the road you've been drinking I have a couple DRS how many just a couple okay what were you reaching in the back for huh I seen you reaching in the back you have an open container back there okay you've been drinking on the way here got your registration proof and insurance do you have a firearm on you okay do you got your pistol are you a corrections officer or Deputy Lieutenant okay Brian said he had been drinking which is not something usual for someone like him during a traffic stop he thought that his job title would keep him safe the police officers followed their rules and asked Brian to do some tests to check if he was drunk Brian didn't want to do these tests and tried to suggest other things instead because he wanted special treatment Brian I'm going to have you step out of the car when I do fi your test for you okay where are you going to camp huh where you going to Camp M Michigan where m m Michigan where's that just around it's hman right around the corner Hawks no pass Hawks I have no clue where that's at heard okay I'm going to ask you step out of the vehicle what would you like me to do uh just let me I can't I had mult multiple phone calls you'd be in the same situation if I was in the vehicle in your county correct um I don't I've got multiple 91 calls about a reckless driver PL and all matches almost hitting vehicles I get behind you you're you hit the shoulder of the road twice all right just let me stay here you can't I'm going to ask you nicely to step out of this vehicle Brian my hands are tied if I let you go I'm going to lose my career over you you don't you would tell one of your deputies if they called you right on the side of the road and they ask you what to do so if one of your deputies is in the position as I am right now calling you as a lieutenant Lieutenant this is what I got what should I do you're just going to say let him go Brian kept asking to just get a warning instead of facing consequences and he didn't understand the situation but the officer doing his job seriously didn't budge he explained that they couldn't ignore Brian's dangerous actions it wasn't just a small traffic problem it was about following the law and the duty of those who enforce it disappoint why why just because just because you're intoxicated I know it if I put alcohol in the vehicle that you're St back I know it you know it I'm I'm not losing my career over you I you don't have to this will make me lose my career over you it won't so I'm going ask you one more time step out of this vehicle nicely for me just let me go Brian we let acted professionally but the fact that the talk went on for a long time showed how complicated it can be when police officers themselves break the law where you work Washington County will not do that hesitated he tried to bargain for a bit more time but there was no room for negotiation when the officer mentioned using a taser Brian finally listened and obeyed he moved slowly and clumsily because showed the problem even more Brian kept resisting trying to talk his way out of it this is a bigger problem with how power and resp responsibility work but the officers didn't budge they were following the law without any bias can I just pull off no than you going to do field sobriety test for me no just let me pause Brian we're done with this hold on talk to me yes or no are you doing field sobriety test all right so if this was the other situation what would you do I'm in a horrible situation I know just let me if I was drunk in your position and you pulled me over I feel horrible but I'm going to I'm not going to resist I didn't resist we forced flee out you I was trying to make a deal okay just let me go I will yes or no are you going to do field soety test for me I just want sobriety test and he kept trying to make deals he wanted special treatment because he was a cop not because it was fair but officer Zachary stayed strong police said being a cop doesn't mean you get seat of the police car Brian's situation showed how tough it can be for cops his blood alcohol level was high at 0.27 which made his case clear he was put on unpaid leave from work and given a lower paying job in a support role what to talk about it buddy sit down and we'll talk no we won't then sit down and we won't talk regardless sit down seat seat your head in my car stop I'm not going to
