Chandler Police Department we're going to have to check on the kid man! That’s my son you can’t do that, That’s my son Think about how scary it is for a kid to get taken away. It's every parent's biggest fear. You're taking my son, dude. I want my mummy I want my mummy But what goes through a kid's mind when they realize someone came to save them? We've got cases of 3 kids who had this happen. These cases are about being scared, then feeling safe, and being brave. On February 25th, 2019, something serious went down. The people at Chandler Police Department's Child Services got a call from a clinic. They said a 2-year-old kid was super sick with a crazy high fever, but his parents wouldn't take him to the doctor. The clinic had already checked him out and found his fever was a whopping 105°! They told the parents to rush him to the ER, pronto. But guess what? The kid never showed up at the ER. So, the clinic got worried and called Child Services, who then rang up the police. The cops got to the kid's house at 10:40 p.m., ready to help out, and started trying to get inside. Over at Chandler PD, the officers were knocking on the door for ages. [Knocking door] They even tried calling the dad, Brooks Bryce but he wasn't picking up. for a press one for more option. Hello This is Officer Cassie with Chandler PD. I'm trying to get in contact with Brooks Bryce, just in regards to your son, The officer decided to ring up the child's doctor to get the lowdown. Why? The child hasn't gone to a hospital yet. Right. I just wanted to ask about what kind of medical problem he had today when he saw you. Sure. Can you just give me a rundown on what it was A fever over 102 degrees in little kids is super serious, and this kid had a fever of 105! That kind of heat can hurt a kid, maybe even cause big problems that last forever. And nobody knew how long the poor kid had been this sick. Things were getting urgent. Then the Chandler PD guys got hold of Brooks Hi, is this Brooks? This is. Hi Brooks, This is Officer Cassie with Chandler PD. How are you doing tonight? I’m Fine. stop banging on my door lets my kids sleep OK, so here's our problem. Basically, the reason why we're knocking on your door is because we need to check on your son he's doing fine his fever broke, he's under 100 degrees he's doing just fine. OK, well, we need to see it for ourselves. And, no you don't need to we need to talk to you outside. So why don't you come outside so we can talk about this? No, thank you. Brooks just wasn't listening to the cop's requests. Brooks [Knocking door] I saw the hand (opening blinds) Like I said here, your options either come out here, talk to us so we could figure out how we're going to get your kid to the hospital or DCS is going to take temporary custody of your kids. So, the cops at DCS asked a judge to let them take the kid for a bit. The officer gave it one more shot before making a big move to help the child. Hello? Brooks. Yes, sir. Do I need to repeat myself what I said outside the window? I could'nt hear you through the window and talk to you on the phone. OK. All right. Here's your first option. You come out and talk to us. Why do you want to take my kids? We have DCS here. that's going to take temporary custody of your kids if you don't come out and talk to us. You're making this way more worse than it needs to be. Now, my kids are fine, Brooke. Okay Okay, Brooks If they're fine, then why don't you make this simple and come out and talk to us? They're not going to force me to go to the hospital for treatment..... Well, here's the thing. The doctors, all the doctors told you what was going on with your son. And they said that they strongly still told you to go to the hospital and get them checked out. because, his fever didn't break His fever broke, gave him a bath and, His fever broke he's doing fine. Look, Brooks, I talked to the doctors already, and they said that this could be a possible life threatening situation, It is not. Listen listen. listen, I know you're saying that the fever broke now and he's feeling better. But OK, ...go to the hospital. No, no, no. Well, Brooks, we need you to come outside and talk to us. You know, if, like I said, if you don't come out and talk to us and we have to deal with this, it make this even worse than it needs to be, then those kids will be taken away. And you guys are going to be in some serious trouble. Because as of right now, you were told by the doctors that you that he needs to go to an emergency room that was told to you guys and we have all the information from all the doctors, that thing. Now, you knowing that makes it even worse for you guys because it's going to be it could be a felony charge The cop was trying hard to get Heber some help fast, but his dad Brooks kept making up excuses that didn't make any sense. Brooks even said his other two kids, who are four and six, were sick too, but he insisted they didn't need help. In the background, the officer could hear coughing. The officer gave them one last chance before deciding to bust in. Sarah, this is Chandler Police Department with Department of Child Services. You need to come to the door and you need to come now. We have a temporary custody notice assigned by by a judge there to comply with a court order to result in your door being kicked in I have the order in my hand you can come out and read it. We're not going away at this point. Sir, this is Chandler Police Department We have a court order. You need to come to the door. I'll give you a copy of your order so that you can read. We need to ensure the welfare of your child. If you refuse to comply with the court order, we will kick in your door. We will force entry into your house. [Kicks Door] All right. Announcement, Chandler Police Department Hold there make more announcements. Chandler Police Department come out with your hands up Finally, Brooks comes out, but Sarah, the mom, is missing. Hands up, Hands up. Let me see both your hands. Turn around Face away from us. Come out slowly. Who else is inside the house? My family. How many people consists of... ....in the line? Where's your wife? I'm not sure, actually, right now. I thought she was coming to the front door, but she does. What's her name? Sarah. Brooks says he was asleep with his daughters in the main bedroom and doesn't know where the kid is. I've got a bunch of guys, and they're all locked up. Does Sarah have access to the seat? No. Okay where's the child right now? ...my bed. the sick child I'm actually. I'm not sure. I was sleeping with my 2 daughter in my master bedroom. The officer calls for Sarah, and at last, Sarah come out to the front door, The officer calls for Sarah, and at last, they find the child. Come over here. ma'am is that the child in question? Yes. Okay. Why not me? Where's my husband? He's right here. The officer said that when they got inside, the other two kids were sick too. Their rooms were a mess, with dirty vomit and stuff everywhere. The scariest thing? They found a gun in the bedroom, and it wasn't even locked up. That's super dangerous. The police took Heber into their care and rushed the other two kids to the hospital. Both parents were charged with child abuse, a serious crime. Moving on, we turn to the chilling case of the next children. Her incident is upsetting and scary. So, we’re going to find out what happened to this child. It was a chilly October night in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The cops got a call from a neighbor, really worried about the little boy next door. He thought the boy's mom and her boyfriend were up to no good, and hurting him. So, he rang up the cops. They thought it'd be a sad but usual case of family trouble. But, they had no idea what they were walking into. Hello. Police Department. We're here to check on a kid, man. Who lives with you? Huh Only my mom. Your mom? Yeah, she's in the hospital right now. We got a phone call that there was a kid abuser Inside here, justice department. Well, that’s me and my girlfriend. The scene was about to take a turn. Nobody expected. We got a call that there's a kid in this apartment My son? Yeah. Your son? He doesn't look well. So that's why we're here to check on him. Yeah. He fell off the bed the other day. So he kinda bruised himself. we're going to have to check on the kid one way or another. So you can make this harder. You can make it easy. The cops kept asking the mom and her boyfriend about the little boy. The boyfriend was dodging the questions, but the mom? She kept saying the boy fell off the bed. Again, and again. That's when the cops knew something was off. They decided to go in and see the boy themselves. They soon found out just how bad it was. We'll follow you in bro. Is the lights working? [inaudible] I just have to with my bill so high. Like I said, he's crazy. He jumps. Let me talk to him. He rolled off the bed. Are you thinking, what i’m thinking? Hey, wait, wait, wait. Freeze, don’t start No. You're taking my son. I want my mummy I want my mummy Give me my son! Back off That’s my son. You cannot do that. You cannot do that. Give me my son! You can’t do that bro. You can’t do that Give me my son! Can is see your legs baby? there's something in next. How old are you baby? Five. You’re five. What's your name, buddy? Fine. You’re name is fine. You’re silly. The cop realized the boy was hurt and had to take him away. That's when the mom went after the cop. Later, in the patrol car, the officer saw just how bad the kid's injuries were. Back at the house, the mom and her boyfriend were still giving the cop a hard time, not answering questions. The mom even tried to blame the kid's real dad, who hadn't been around for weeks. The situation was a mess, and it was clear the boy needed help fast. And listen if you found these types of cases interesting then don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe to our channel. You take my son. I dont’t want to talk to you. Do you want to talk to me? No! I want my son. You’re not gonna have your son back. You want to grab me? Seriously, what's your name? It’s natalie. Do you want to f**king take my kid from me? When, i’m not the one abusing him dog. His dad does. The boy's mom and her boyfriend ended up getting arrested for fighting with a police officer. They were taken to jail because they had been hurting people at home. In the meantime, the child was taken into the custody of the Albuquerque Children, youth, and Families Department to be taken care of until a family can be found to take good care of him. It's a good thing the boy was found before things got much worse. Now last incident is a frustrating mix of dishonesty and danger. Let's discuss the details of what they did. On October 16th, a mom took her 5-year-old son to Akron, Ohio, to see his dad, 31-year-old Sean Eckel. But things went downhill fast. What was supposed to be a simple visit turned into a nightmare. Sean attacked the mom and then ran off with the kid to a nearby laundromat. Suddenly, the whole city's SWAT team was searching for Sean and the little boy. The cops got help from people who saw everything go down. Those eyewitnesses were key in finding where Sean and the kid were. He came out from the laundry room. when the windows open. He came out. He could came from out there. Because we clear that no one was in there. No, he came out of there. I’m telling you, he really did. I watched it. Where did he go, dear? He still by the laundru door with the little boy in his hand. Did you see where he was? Where he walked off to? No. I'm watching him standing there with little boy in his hand. That’s all i’m saying. And I think he did come up by that door Because he came out there with the little boy in his hand. little boy was like this. [inaudible] And that was after we left. Yes. Right after he was still out here. When I walked in, it was maybe by like 9:20 9:25 Yes. That's swat was over. And she was like. I think he surrendered himself. I said, why? Why do you say that? She said, because he came out holding a little boy with his arms up. And now she tell me what she just said. Basically the same thing you are. That was 9:20 But now your are telling me that. Yeah. My little boy. Well, You have to find the little boy. Yeah. but it's it's a laundry room over here. This whole thing went down in a laundry room. he was hiding with the kid at a house on Silven Avenue, 1300 block. Soon, the house was surrounded by cops, all set to do whatever they had to, to rescue the little one. Occupants of 1307 silver come out one at a time with their hands up. Police department All right we got a couple of doors in the living room, there's a kid. Hey, come on out. Bring the kids out. All right? They have covered, yeah. The door has to be open [inaudible] All right. One at a time. Get the kids out. Bring your kid. Get the kids out. Let's go. Come on. Bring all the children Eleanor, let me hear Come here sweeie. Hey sean we are from police department. How are you doing brave man? [inaudible] Yeah, we miss. Here we go. Let's try to break it on the first one. Thanks for. Okay. Thanks for not busting my hand Good thing Sean decided to be smart and handed the kid over to the cops at 11:20 p.m. But guess what? Sean was MIA. He had locked himself up inside the house, not listening to what SWAT was telling him. We're not going anywhere, man. Let's go. Come on out with the hands up. He came out from that back towards the hall way to the left. [inaudible] [inaudible] And sometimes Haven’t we ask for help. Sean. come on out, man. We know you're here. You're right. Officer. it’s time to move you out. You know your name? No. [inaudible] You wanna go talk to her. Yeah, Talk to him first. Hey, Sean Hey man come on out. We know you're here. Your mom is out here man. I'll let you talk to her after you come on out you cooperate with us. You could talk to your mother once you come out, OK? So, they had to use some kind of spray to get him out. It worked, and soon Sean was sitting in the back of a police car. Do you have anything on you? that we missed. Guns, drugs, needles, anything like that? You got to go through all your pockets. All right, Go up here. I gotta double lock those Shawn Open your mouth. All right, step on that man. There relatively short drive. All right, Watch you step. That’s f**king my ribs. What’s that? It’s hurting my ribs. When they asked him questions, his answers were just plain weird. [inaudible] Yes. Okay. I'm asking some questions. Okay. Do you have any weapons up to you? No [inaudible] we're following you, They were trying to find you? They tried to find me. [inaudible] [inaudible] You should have just came out, man. We were on that place for quite some time. Just take him to the hospital. [inaudible] Let it seen by ems. I want to go to the hospital. Thinking all this was just a dream, that's just messed up. The way he talks and acts, it's like he's used to drugs. And now, he got exactly what he deserved. Sean was charged with kidnapping, abduction, and domestic violence. Now he's in Summit County jail, bond set at $100,000. Good thing they caught him and locked him up.
