why would someone attack a police officer do nothing get out of here do [Music] nothing Hollis Alvin Daniels it was October 9 2017 and something terrible was about to happen at Texas Tech University pois Alvin Daniels a 19-year-old student was about to make headlines for all the wrong reasons that evening the police got a call saying someone had stolen a gun they were told that Hollis took it and said some scary things not long after police saw him driving and stopped him to talk hey what's going on man Police Department okay what's going on tonight man they asked where he'd been and if he had any weapons Hollis seemed calm and said he didn't have any guns he said he was just coming from a friend's house where they had a small argument easy how's going huh where were you coming from budd's house why don't you go step out for me okay why is that sir cuz we got a call about you going over there about who huh huh say what now we got a call about you causing a disturbance a disturbance yeah over at your friend's house oh no where' your friend live at uh over down this way and then uh down he's on 20 29 28th 289th or something okay what your friend's name uh Leo Leo yeah okay why is Leo calling us telling us you're messing with him oh I don't know I was going back over there see if I my phone well why is he calling us I have no idea okay you have any guns or any weapons in the vehicle yes sir any drugs or anything like that sir okay so why is your buddy calling us I have no idea sir cuz I guess he didn't I don't know I don't know I'm I'm not sure sir well you come out and step step out here and talk to me man okay okay is that necessary sir yeah it is necessary okay but I got to figure out what's going on man I mean you're not right now man I got to figure out what's going on okay just come stand over here for me okay the police wanted to look in his car to make sure everything was fine but Hollis said no the police talked to him a little more and then let him leave without checking his car but this was a big mistake you got a gun inside the vehicle no sir you don't have a gun inside the vehicle sir you have a gun on on your person no sir I down yeah you care if we search your vehicle yes sir I can't do than for a you don't want us to search your vehicle yeah but not because I don't have a gun I just I just don't I'm conent to that there it's not necessary I'm on my way home no it is necessary cuz right now you're involved in an investigation oh no sir no where are you coming from I was coming from my buddy's house I I just explain to him we had a little dispute he my phone out of my phone it not it wasn't a consult or anything he knocked my phone out and so I went back over to his house and I was looking for my phone to see if it was on the ground but I couldn't find the phone there okay that's not what we're getting that's why I'm asking if you have a gun in your car no okay so you don't want me to search though yes sir you don't yes sir I cannot put your vehicle for a gun yes sir okay then hang on to him I'm going to go there and see what's going on on that side then I'll be back over here so might as well just put him in the back of your all right figure going on okay yeah go ahead step over with me then wait what what is what is that a gun they they call said you had a gun so just stay back here I'm not I'm not going to C you up or anything right all right later that night the police got another call this time to hollis's dorm room they were supposed to make sure he was okay but they found more than they expected when they arrived they saw evidence of drugs and found bullet holes in the room po came back while they were searching and they arrested him immediately Tex Tech Police Department you don't open up we're kinging in Texas Tech Police Department we're keying in yeah some kind of touchup paint right there here is there more touchup or there's a gun right here revolver was this a kid here you had talk to this kid no we hadn't talked to him this is that's a Crossman let's see too looks like uh all this is why he didn't want to answer earlier for us I'm still not seeing any holes I'm going to put some gloves on was a gun think it was that Crossman they said it was a gun they thought it was a a gun one of them said he saw a gun he said he heard shots go off they heard one gun shot uhhuh and and then he texted the roommate in here about it and then they talked to him and he at first he said he dropped something and then he said his gun accidentally went off and then he saw two holes in the wall and floor he never saw the actual gun he says he did for a couple seconds he saw what looked like a 9mm handgun hang on what's your name Bud Budd what's your name Andreas no it's not no what's going on we've already talked to your other three roommates we know what they look like yeah that was a good try though hey he hey hey here stand up for me real quick do you have any weapons or anything on you interlace your fingers on top of your head what is this called about keep your hands right there okay I'll explain it to you as soon as I get done spread your feet out a little for me they took him to the campus police station for having drugs even though he had hidden the stolen gun the officers didn't find it on him at first go and have a seat hold cozy back here turn that way I'll be transfering one wi mail TR ditch anything or get rid of anything I'm going to check check it back there before we take you so oh yeah know you good what was that big thump oh my my uh handcuff at the station one of the officers Officer Floyd East Jr thought Hollis wasn't dangerous and took off his handcuffs to process him this was a tragic decision the noise wasn't from his handcuffs it was a gun hidden in his pants falling onto the car floor even so the officer trusted him and didn't noticed the gun he thought the person Daniels was cooperating so officer East Jr removed the hand cuffs and took Daniels alone into a room for paperwork this was a big mistake it led to the officer's death Cas CBD investigation team has a video showing the murder of a Texas Tech police officer officer East and Daniels are left alone in the briefing room as officer East completes the booking paperwork Daniels asks officer East three questions before he pulls out a gun and fires that deadly shot you have a family at home yep the kids are you old yeah the University was closed off while police looked for Hollis everywhere they found him after a tense hour of searching around the campus not yet not at this time they've been coming on the contr North side we're to this time 645 Tech get LPD out here to secure the outside of the building I it ready yeah you want to stay up here be careful right on
