But one officer was about to give him a much-needed reality check. >> They're everywhere in town right now. >> What do you What do you do for a living? >> I got injured and they put me on disability. >> Okay. >> So, I haven't been working. And my wife is on I've been on disability for a long time, but they just tore her apart. >> Michael? >> This is Mike, yep. >> This is the ambulance crew. Glad nobody got hurt. >> Somebody has been hurt. >> Yeah. When was this? >> All day today. >> All day today? >> They've been torturing her. >> How come you didn't call the police? >> It's cuz everybody's phones and everybody's is wired to where you can't call here. And nobody down here is going to say anything cuz they they've seen what they did. >> I was going to Do we know which way he came in yet? We checked the cameras? >> I haven't seen cameras. >> Okay. >> What do you mean which way? >> Was he coming in from this side or >> Oh, yeah. No, he was. >> Okay. >> Yeah, you can see. >> Yeah. >> There was a car parked here. >> Here. Yeah. >> Basically came around her. >> Do you want to tell me more about that? Who Who the people are? >> Well, they're going to kill me if they do. >> Oh. >> Really didn't want to do that, but it's the only way I could get away from them. They were coming after me. >> All right. >> So, Mike, you'd mentioned that you came here kind of for the with the purpose of running into the building here. >> Well, I was trying to get away from them, but they were following me following me for days now cuz um my phone hasn't been working and I just wanted it fixed. >> Well, I want to talk to you. I want to ask you some more questions about what's going on. [clears throat] Um I do need to make you aware of your rights though, okay? >> Yeah. >> All right. So, you have the right to remain silent. Do you understand your rights? >> Yeah, I probably ought to not make any more comments. >> What's that? Well, there's a lot of people out there cuz you just ran the full-size truck into a building. So, the only people out there are firefighters and building inspectors and everybody's trying to figure out how to get back to business here. You caused a major incident. You truck You didn't run your truck into the side of the building. You ran it right through the doors where we have families, >> Yeah. >> women, children, men coming in and out of those doors all day long from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 at night, there's people in there. And you could have killed somebody. I'm not asking you any questions cuz you said you don't want to talk to me, okay? But that's that's the seriousness of the situation. >> Michael was reported to be in a rapidly deteriorating state of mind and had been in and out of the hospital. Police officers reached out to his wife to check whether his claims were true, but she was completely fine. The officers then decided to conduct a sobriety test, which he gladly took, not knowing the results that were about to follow. >> I just sit in my desk. I thought somebody I thought there was an accident on Main Street. >> That's what Jared said, too. >> And then it flung somebody into the building. I mean, you could definitely feel the building get hit. >> So, I understand you agreed to do some field sobriety tests for me, is that right? >> do that. >> You're willing to do that for me? All right, then we're going to step out here. We're going to go outside. Do you have any shoes? >> I don't. >> No? Are you okay doing it in your socks and your feet? Okay. >> Running in them, so. >> All right, you will follow me out this way. We're going to go >> I had a bone that got broke real bad. >> Okay. >> And they took the bone out of the joint, so I actually have a hard time standing on it. >> Okay. Uh what color are your eyes, Mike? They blue? >> They're blue. They're red right now cuz I was up all night. >> Okay. Okay, what I want you to do is follow my finger with your eyes and your eyes only. Keep your head still, all right? Thank you. All right, you can go ahead and relax for a second. We're going to move on to my next test, all right? So, what I want you to do is you're going to take nine heel-to-toe steps looking at your feet and counting aloud on that line. Do you understand all that? Okay. >> This ankle though does give me problems. >> All right. Well, you just do the best you can. >> Okay. 1 2 3 4 5 6 >> Yep. >> All right. In this ankle bit, I lost some use going this way. Like this? >> Okay. Which ankle was that? Your right one? >> one. >> Last test today, Mike, is called the one leg stand. So, what you're going to do is you're going to stand on one leg. You can pick either leg. Stand like this with your hands down at your side, and you're going to raise one foot off the ground. I'm going to look at my toe, and I'm going to count 1 1,000, 2 1,000. When you're ready, you can begin. >> 1 1,000, 2 foot. Not bad at that. >> Keep on trying. >> 1 1,000, 2 1,000, 3 1,000, 4 1,000, 5 1,000, 6 1,000, 7 1,000, 8 1,000, 9 1,000, 10 1,000, 11 1,000, 12 13 14 Should I try the other one? >> Stop here. I'm good. I don't want you to hurt hurt your ankle, so >> Yeah, I'm not too good with the balance in in my older age, either, I guess. Got you. >> Here's the plan right now. So, what we're going to do is we're going to go down to the hospital cuz you were involved in an accident. Have you checked out cuz I got to get a medical clearance. And we're going to drop you off at the jail, all right? >> Okay. >> As officers searched his vehicle, they found a double-bladed axe within arm's reach. Further reports stated that Michael's mother had schizophrenia, and that he had previously self-medicated by using Michael was charged with criminal mischief, aggravated assault, and driving under the influence.
