stop dude stop moving stop moving do you know how a single moment can change lives forever we've heard many cases but this one is different it's about a 19-year-old who made a big mistake one night a young man named Jacob who had recently become the proud owner of a new car he really needed to get home quickly but he wasn't paying full attention to the road because of this and because of that something unexpected was about to happen to him well dude you just blew the red man yeah no I didn't see it 84 negative are you good me yeah I'm good I are you hurt I just got some glass in there I didn't know I was just paying attention to the right are you hurt man my car I mean you got some good damage here man why are you guys yeah why don't you guys step out of the car dude stop moving stop over here step over here you have an idea on you man idea I think it's in my car jaob was driving in the city with lots of tricky roads but then he got distracted he didn't see the red light that meant stop suddenly his car crashed into another one it made a really loud noise glass broke and metal Twisted everywhere it was a big mess the officer was worried about their safety he told Jacob and his passenger to go to the sidewalk he asked if they were okay and check for any injuries Jacob still feeling confused from the accident said he had glass stuck in his skin but claimed he wasn't hurt otherwise why you sit down you're just not paying attention what's I was I was not paying attention at all okay you had anything to smoke tonight going a drink no I smoked a joint like 3 days ago okay that was it I smoked side in my car what did he say about it uh didn't see the red light said he had to go to the bathroom really bad okay any signs of intoxication that you could get uh he seems I mean he seems really off CSC said he saw a bong in the car okay but he said he didn't smok in 3 days I don't know how much of the investigation I do for this yeah not much okay you guys aren't hurt no I'm not hurt you don't care who TOS it TOS it you don't care what company we usually just call like they rotate for the weeks but if you want a specific one call them they're different in price red light also when they asked if he' used any drugs Jacob admitted to smoking marijuana but he said it was days before the accident and he wasn't High when the crash happened over here here yeah okay so I want you to be honest with me you smoked some weed today yeah I did yeah pretty recently very recently yeah probably 2 hours ago okay how much how much like do you you feel pretty high cuz you seem pretty high no I'm not high you don't feel high no I see there's a bong in the car yeah I just bought it from the one place okay smokes for us I'm outside okay so when did you smoke two hours ago you said two hours ago yeah at your house or where at my house just at of buddies had of buddies yeah like Southside North Side South Side okay so to the Southside smokes about new bong how much did you smoked like the ass I I haven't even smoked that new piece in there how much did you smoke 2 hours ago oh like a couple one hitters couple one hitters is that normal or yeah that's normal okay do you have anything on you no you can search my pockets if you want as they looked at the damage to the cars they saw that things were really bad Jacob's new car might be completely wrecked the police officer's car wasn't in good shape either showing how bad the crash was but they kept saying that nobody was badly hurt which was the most important thing Jacob feeling awkward as the officer watched him closely he tried to think clearly even though he had recently had Sur surgery for his lazy eye he told the officer that his vision was fine now even though he wasn't wearing the contacts he was supposed to the officer tried different test to see if Jacob had been drinking but Jacob didn't do well as he struggled to follow the officer's finger with his eyes he felt more and more anxious and confused so you smoked two hours ago some one H yeah anything else nothing nothing can you stand with your heels and Toes touching yep completely touching like me like this put your hands at your side hands on my side try it again just like me my bad you have any physical issues physical issues yeah my KN are [ __ ] up like do you have a physical injury or do you just it's just sore it's just sore okay do you have any problems with your eyes eyes yeah I had eye surgery not too long ago when cuz I blaz the eyes or whatever so they like brought him back when did you have eye surgery eye surgery like a couple years ago okay but your eyes are fine now yeah my eyes are fine you weing contacts contacts no I'm supposed to be fine okay all right Jacob whispered quickly looking in different directions as he attempted to lock his focus on the officer's moving finger despite his efforts Jacob attempts were disjointed his eyes lagging or jumping ahead unable to smoothly track the movement the officer started to doubt Jacob more and more he did more tests to see if Jacob could keep his balance and move well put your feet like mine all the way touching there you go and then put your hands at your side all the way no down at your side side yep can you see my finger yep I want you to follow my finger with your eyes and your eyes only and don't move your head you understand Jake yep keep watching my finger just track it with your eyes hey you're not watching my finger no that's your fing sorry I've never done this before it's okay just just like you're watching it everywhere my finger goes your eyes go ready you not able to do this me M you're not doing it you're like looking past it for it just like if you were to watch like a base watch my finger you got to keep your eyes right on the tip of my finger you guys saying have drunk or something I can do a no this is just a test we have to do I got and I got you I need you to follow my finger okay okay as Jacob tried to do the walk and turn test he couldn't walk steadily and he felt unsteady he tried to focus and count each step out loud like he was told but just walking in a straight line felt impossible the officer kept telling him what to do but Jacob's thoughts were all over the place he was nervous and still feeling the effects of whatever he had taken when tasked with standing on one foot Jacob's performance did not improve one two he counted his voice trailing off as he wobbled and struggled to maintain the pose the officer having seen enough moved on to a simpler test asking Jacob to recite the alphabet take your hands out of your pockets I want you to imagine there's a straight line in front of you okay all right Jake I I want your left foot on that line and then I want your right foot in front of your left foot heel the toe and I want you to stand like that okay just like that don't move until I tell you understand okay so when I say go Jake I want you to take nine Heel To Toe steps down this line Y turn around and take nine Heel To Toe steps back okay okay watch me I'll demonstrate you're going to go just like this one two 3 all the way to nine when you get to nine to keep your front foot down to do a series of small steps and you turn around do nine back one two three and all the way to nine okay all right while you're doing this test Jake hey look at me while you're doing this test I want you to keep your hands down at your side okay count your feet count your steps out loud all right okay keep watching your feet don't stop walking till you've completed the test okay you for night the officer instructed Jacob to stand with his heels and Toes touching Hands by his side and then to tilt his head back close his eyes and estimate 30 seconds hands down at your side y out of your pockets sorry so when I say go I want you to tilt your head all the way back don't go until I say it though til your head all the way back close your eyes and estimate the passage of 30 seconds okay guys the pass estimate the passage of 30 seconds like what happened right here no estimate 30 seconds seconds 30 seconds passing and when you feel 30 seconds has passed I want you to open your eyes and say stop okay okay so watch so watch me you're going to go just like this you're going to tilt your head all the way back close your eyes and then estimate 30 seconds okay all right you wanted to show that he was okay so he agreed to do the test he started counting in his head trying to know when the time was up without looking at the clock even though he opened his eyes too early the officer said it was okay that meant they were done with the physical tests next the officer wanted to check for alcohol even though Jacob insisted he hadn't been drinking he blew into the device and it registered zero confirming no alcohol was in his system however the conversation took a turn when Jacob mentioned he occasionally took Xanax to help with his anxiety this admission coupled with his earlier test performances led the officer to decide to arrest Jacob for operating while impaired ow potentially due to the influence of Xanax rather than alcohol might have you blow on this you haven't even drinking right no I haven't been drinking let we see if you have any alcohol in your system okay right right all right big [Music] breath zero you can take that tube off pull it pull it pull it would it come out of zero Z did you eat today did I eat today no I didn't eat you haven't eaten anything no did you sleep at all sleep at all when did you sleep when did you sleep last night I went to bed around 8:00 last night yeah get up fry around 1011 and then I sting to KI eating some donut with and nice passed out okay you don't take any prescription pills for anything no I take I used to buy a Xanax off someone every once in a while when I'm going through a hard time you know so my thoughts going through my head you know it's almost [ __ ] you know it's as Jacob was handcuffed and led to the squad car the officer explained the situation though Jacob was being arrested the officer noted that if everything went smoothly he might not have to stay in jail and could go home after some paperwork and further testing okay so you're going to be placed under arrest for ow right now okay yep and then we got some testing and some paperwork and then if all goes cooperatively you might be able to go home okay okay so I got to put you in cuffs all [Music] right hey in the car the police officer and Jacob talked about what to do next Jacob who was still trying to understand how serious his problem was agreed to do more tests and hoped everything would be solved quickly the officer seeing that Jacob was honest and willing to help said he wanted to make things as easy for him as possible I got to go ask this is going to be yeah I'm trying to be honest with you guys we appreciate that I'll try to get you home if all goes well all right hold on let me Mo my light open hly
