back stay back how does it feel when teens who are used to getting everything they want end up in jail suddenly they're in a place where no one cares about their excuses or who they are outside they have to face the truth about their actions and learn tough life lessons these are the cases of learning the hard way that actions have consequences let's start with the distressing case of the first teen who faces challenges on March 7th 2021 in Lacrosse a serious car crash occurred that involved 19-year-old Cody Patrick Peters Cody was driving very fast when his car hit a big rock rolled over and finally stopped at a dead end on Campbell Road a scared friend in the car worried about Cody's dangerous driving called 911 for help when the police got there they found Cody and his friend the friend was trying to tell the police that Cody who who seemed very drunk was driving Cody however tried to avoid admitting he was driving Cody's car had moved a big rock 150 ft from where it was before the crash showing just how fast he must have been going are you the caller uh no she is I was just I just came you're the driver okay why don't you sit back here okay you were driving no I was seriously he made jokes and didn't answer questions straight he even said he hadn't drunk enough for the police to stop him which didn't make sense what's your address Cody it's not important right Cody didn't want to do any tests he didn't think he had to prove anything to the police and then at that point after that would you be willing to do the S Shield SRI test I'm not going to do any kind of sobriety test you two have for me okay so you know based off my observations the vehicle crashed tonight I do want to do the standard field Sur test I can't force you to do them but it's your opportunity to show me that you're not impaired right you iy think that I have zero opportunity to show in front of you okay so are you refusing all field S field TS Cody wa I'm talking with you just good all right on your back before the crash Cody and his friend had been in a bowling alley and then went to another friend's house Cody's friend attempted to prevent him from driving due to his intoxication but Cody ignored her as they drove Cody drove her to high speed while his friend repeatedly asked him to slow down Cody reassured her not to worry really didn't give me much information she said that they were drinking um at the bowling alley and then they went to a friend's house and hung out there he took the keys he tried to tell her she tried to tell him not to drive but they both got in the car he said she she said he did not say anything to him as they're driving they started driving all over time and she repetitively like you need to stop you need to stop and then he just started driving MCH n he said there was his girlfriend and possibly another girl in the car she never mentioned anyone else that it was just those two I'll double check she's been drinking too she's Cooperative but she really wants to say goodbye to him she's pissed she wants to they live together she wants the key they didn't have an argument though that's the thing she's like we didn't get in a fight there's no threats no nothing he just took the keys because he drives when like he wouldn't say anything she's like she said you need to slow down the only thing he said once was don't worry babe I got this Cody was arrested and faced multiple charges including felony first degree recklessly endangering safety misdemeanor second offense drunk driving operating with prohibited blood alcohol content and operating after revocation his refusal to cooperate with the police coupled with his previous due I painted a troubling picture of a young man unwilling to acknowledge the dangers of his actions on August 25th 2022 in Florida a 20 years old got noticed by the police because she was dangerously driving her car she was swerving between lanes and driving unpredictably the police officer stopped her car and quickly realized something wasn't right he smelled alcohol on her breath instead of owning up to what she did wrong the woman tried to use her education as an excuse she hinted that she had a doctorate as if that would make her dangerous driver living okay when the officer told her why he stopped her and why he was worried the woman just asked if she could get a ride home she was trying to dodge taking responsibility for what she did she didn't understand that the situation was too serious all right Mr Lex do favor step out the car for me all right here's the deal hold you over for a land violation got all over the place okay there's an over of alcohol press in the vehicle as I'm speaking to you okay from your breath as I talk to you okay you sub standard I just feel Surety task I want you to show them to you're able to operate a motor vehicle without impairment you understand I it right now what if I got a ride no you can't call a ride we're not calling a uber we're not doing anything you're driving your car I want to make sure you're able to get in your car drive home want to drive home no the officer became even more suspicious when he saw a cooler in the back seat hinting that her night might have been about more than just driving but when he mentioned doing sobriety tests the woman tried to avoid it she asked if her mom could pick her up acting like she wasn't responsible for what she did even though she was an adult not we're not leaveing your car here you're in your vehicle and I have to make sure you're safe enough to drive in your current condition okay cuz you were driving when I made contact with you right yeah me ride home like what if my mom like what if I park my car and then my mom like why I need one g got me D well I don't know why like me was it me swerving or something and leaving your lane driving completely over to center lane of travel on your phone is there something to explain I I'm like drinking like I don't know well I can smell alcohol come for your breath even as you're standing here outside of the vehicle okay okay drunk well you know I don't know and it's my job to make sure you're not in pair before you're get in your car and drive home from you I'm not going to drive from there why can't my mom come and get me there option it's you drive home or you don't drive home why why can't one come and get me it's not an option okay cuz you're operator of a motor vehicle and you drive I'm not going to drive driving a car she seemed both confused and upset trying everything to avoid following the law she asked why she couldn't call her mom why she was being picked on and even tried to talk her way out of the sobriety test her attempts to act innocent or act like she didn't understand were obvious strategies to avoid getting in trouble for driving while drunk you were driving a car in this condition Okay so it's already you know like I said we're not calling anybody we're not calling an Uber you're not calling for a ride all right let do it then okay so you willing to participate first can I call her and tell her no you're not calling her why because you are an adult okay and you were driving a car and I'm going to make sure you're able to drive a car safely home but I still have at home though so like why can't I call her and tell her that yeah I am doing this you you're not calling me why can't she be here though why why we're going to go ahead and move on okay um right now are you sick or injured no I'm not I can't call Mom and no you cannot make you cannot call anybody you cannot make any phone calls right now I'm tring to come get me I'm just trying her to come be here no are you diabetic you take because you're an adult and you're driving a car and we're not need your mom here the officer however remained firm he told her why the tests were important and that she had to do them he made it clear that she couldn't get out of it just because she didn't want to do them you're an adult okay but that is not an option right now but I say I'm 20 years old though and it still matters we're not calling anybody for this first one me come back here and let you stand right here stand right here it J though why is it J because everything's being audio and video recorded okay and it's our policy to have two officers yeah it's it's it's our policy to have two officers presentent while we're doing a DUI investigation okay can you call my mom no not an option stay over there and you need to step away okay so I need you to stand here and face me if you'd like because she is not a part of this it's between me and you the woman began to do the sobriety tests but she kept asking questions and talking while doing them she didn't do well on the tests which was very different from how confident she seen before they didn't let her please for sympathy or her attempts to use her status affect them so you can stand right here face me we're going to stand with our feet together and our toes and our heels together just like that okay the police officer starts by telling the woman to watch the red tip of a pen common test to check eye movement and coordination the woman wonders why the test is needed and why her mom is involved she wants to handle things on her own the woman doesn't fully trust the police can you see the red tip of my finger right here yes you're going to follow with your eyes and your eyes only okay it's going to move side to side we're just going to follow with our eyes do you understand yeah that many times other times we're getting there people I mean I've been right so I think I know how it works like just keep following with your eyes and eyes oning going it go up and down now okay does it last this long yes it does it does y not matter be this long well we're not trained in DUI investigations well I mean I've been through it D that doesn't mean you're to aru I'm not arguing I'm just saying I've been through walk on a real line or Imagine One the woman questions how fair and real the test is saying there aren't clear rules she likes having clear visible boundaries the officer tries to make things work by of entitlement and behavior however the woman became increasingly resistant and began questioning the officer's instructions she accused the officer of making up the test and expressed frustration when asked to repeat the steps the situation escalated when the officer attempted to arrest her for failing to comply with the test and possibly for being under the influence right you are going to be to have done everything asked of her even though she was not cooperating the officer warned her that resisting arrest could lead to additional charges during this confrontation her entitlement became even more apparent she claimed to have passed all the tests and demanded to speak to her mother right I passed everything I passed everything now I passed everything though so I passed I passed though talking too tight that's why he checked resisting is pulling pushing anything active like that she had active resistance against him no he didn't come on size he's up 500 lb to 90 lb if I have you in handcuffs and you're pulling away from put you in hand you know what he's pulling away from because he's got him so tight that's why he just checked him again they weren't tight out of them she slipped of them it's watch and she was I watched it he's stronger than the out of he 500 lb to her 90 lb he threw up against the backing did all this [ __ ] to her I watched it and you stood there and witnessed it too yeah I helped him or take her into custody he no he I don't even want him driving the out of her told nothing that officer did a violation I watched her she's standing there doing this you guys did all kinds of tests on her she pulling when she did the walkin turn she stepped off the line when she did the finger to nose she missed her nose she failed to put her need to explain the arrest revealed a stark contrast between the young woman's perception of the situation and the reality enforced by the law her belief that she could negotiate her way out of legal consequences or call on her mother for assistance highlighted a profound sense of enti ement even as the officers checked the handcuffs for tightness and ensured her safety she and her mother continued to dispute the officer's actions accusing them of unnecessary Force ultimately she faced charges including DUI resisting arrest possession of alcohol by a person under 21 and refusal to submit to testing that's the end of our cases about what happens when entitled teens make mistakes it's a big reminder to all of us about being careful and making smart choices these cases show us just how quickly things can go
