my entire Channel

it's all good because I appealed it and
they reverted their decision eight hours
later but I wanted to make this video
and share this experience with you
possibly it can help some other creators
because the appeal process was very very
specific and you have to do it a certain
way or else you might lose everything
you worked for now let's start right
from the beginning
last Thursday I woke up to this email
and honestly it was very unsettling it
says hi Josh Prime during a recent
review our team of policy Specialists
carefully looked over the videos you've
uploaded to your channel Josh Prime we
found that a significant portion of your
channel is not in line with our YouTube
Partner program policies as of today
your channel is not eligible to monetize
and you will not have access to
monetization tools and features please
go to your monetization page to read
more about the specifics so obviously I
was very concerned I was thrown off
guard I was flabbergasted because my
videos are quite obviously fair use but
that's okay that's why they have the
appeal process so I went to my
monetization page and then I realized
what was the issue the issue was that
YouTube thought I was using reuse
content now of course I take make videos
from other creators in this case the DUI
Channel called blue Cam and other
channels that are covering body cam
footage and I transform it initially
YouTube thought that this was not enough
transformation to allow me to monetize
this content and that's why there is the
appeal process now to all other
YouTubers that have been demonetized let
me give you this advice when you hear
terrible news like this you will be very
depressed and you'll be concerned
initially but it's okay you need to
relax gather yourself and make a
well-constructed appeal video in your
appeal video you need to demonstrate how
you transform the content so that it
becomes fair use and transformative
enough that it can be monetized so
that's why you need to really sit down
and think what you're doing and take
your time with this appeal video because
you only get one shot if you miss it
then you will have have to wait 30 days
and in some cases it looks like they
changed that policy just today you might
have to wait 90 days so it's very
important that you show YouTube exactly
how you make your videos and how you
transform the content
so in the interest of helping others
that may be going through this I will
now share with you guys my appeal video
that was successful at overturning
YouTube's decision here it is
hello YouTube this is Josh Prime over
here doing the appeal video for my
channel Josh Prime now in this video I
will show you exactly how I do my
creative process and even though yes my
videos cover body cam footage that is
available on other channels I put
commentary and a narrative in every
single video so my channel is a reaction
Channel and what I react to currently is
arrest videos of drunk drivers now I
find the footage on other people's
Channel yes and then I put it in the
editing software and I start editing the
video so first I will do a clever intro
where I take the best Snippets of the
video put them together and then I make
a montage of the person getting arrested
I write busted then I deliver my intro
where I will talk about what the video
is about while I am talking I usually
put this background that I made or if
I'm delivering a joke what I will do is
go on the internet and find memes to put
out a background that way you can add
some extra comedic value now I'm not
trying to be the funniest guy whatsoever
but I do have some comedic input here
and there now my commentary I'm trying
to really analyze what makes the drunk
drivers do what they do and that's why I
stopped the video every minute and a
half to deliver impactful commentary on
my opinions on what's going on with the
stock one of the main things I talk
about is I analyze the field sobriety
test and as I'm delivering my commentary
I will put some stock footage that I
find in the PowerDirector app to further
illustrate what I'm talking about when
it comes to the field sobriety tests so
my videos usually end up being 20 to 30
minute long between the original footage
and my commentary it takes me about an
hour and a half to two hour to edit
sometimes I have to retake the lines
multiple times to just get the best
commentary out there so let's take a
look at the rules as to what is allowed
to monetize and what is not
as per the YouTube rules on what is
allowed to monetize it says a reaction
video where you comment on the original
video that is exactly what I'm doing I'm
doing commentary every minute and a half
It also says edited footage from other
creators where you add a storyline or
commentary so obviously my videos fall
into that category and every single one
of them is like that now I also make
shorts and my shorts follow the same
procedures it will be about maybe 30
seconds of the original video and 30
seconds of commentary here is one of my
shorts just as an example okay
foreign
no that's hilarious she said she
unbuttoned her pants because she was
drinking lady you just confessed to the
officer right then and there I guess
she's too drunk to realize what she's
saying and that she's actually
incriminating herself so as you can see
there was about 20 seconds of the
original footage alongside some edits
and then 25 seconds of me doing
commentary and that is the formula that
I follow for every single short now I
also recently did my first live stream
where I was covering videos and just
like the rest of my content I was doing
commentary I was interacting with the
audience and it was very transformative
I was actually stopping the video almost
every 30 seconds to a minute to deliver
commentary the subscribers really
enjoyed it so as you will see I did not
delete any videos on my channel because
I have nothing to hide none of my videos
are straight up taken from other
creators there are always transformed
with commentary very editing memes a
storyline and that's why I have nothing
to hide and I'm sure that you will
reverse this decision I've spent
hundreds of hours working on this
channel and got it up to 8 000
subscribers and I don't take shortcuts I
don't believe in stealing other people's
content I know it's wrong and that's why
I always add a lot of commentary
throughout my videos to make sure that
it is so transformative that no one
would possibly think that the video is
stolen it always falls under fair use by
the amount of work that I put into it
please reverse this decision as I've
been working very very hard on this
channel and I always follow the YouTube
monetization policies thank you for your
time
so I'm sure you can hear it in my voice
I was a little bit depressed because
honestly I've been working on this
channel for nine months since October of
2022 and if you're gonna put in hours
and hours editing videos you want
something out of it that just makes
sense but I wasn't depressed for too
long because just seven to eight hours
later I received this beautiful email
it read hi Josh Prime we're happy to
share that your YouTube Partner program
appeal was successful and your channel
can now monetize again our team
carefully reviewed both your content and
your video appeal your appeal helped us
to better understand how you create your
videos your content strategy and your
Channel's brand thank you for submitting
an appeal and for your patience while we
reviewed it we realized this was extra
work for you and we appreciate your help
in improving our review processes thanks
the YouTube team and honestly that's
just what it is they don't want people
cheating the system they don't want
someone to just take someone else's
video and put barely any effort into it
and then get fully monetized just like
the original Creator and that makes a
lot of sense and of course mistakes
happen and that's why initially I was
demonetized but all you have to do is
make a very concise clear your video on
what you do how do you transform the
content what Extra Value do you bring to
the content and your appeal will be
successful remember that you're not
allowed to delete any videos after
you've been demonetized so if you have
some videos that aren't monetization
friendly I guess tough luck you will
have to delete them all and reapply 30
days from now but honestly I'm pretty
happy on how this went down it's just a
bump in the road it happened and then I
was able to fix it immediately and I
hope that my experience with this
process is able to help others
