I need you to be honest with me okay
were you guys racing to Waffle House
because I can tell you right now from
look at the damage that car they were
moving
[Music]
[Applause]
we've got a pretty significant accident
uh went through a tree and power pole it
appears two fatalities currently just
relax okay we're gonna get you looked at
too sorry
yeah
34 Central have the UGA supervisor
that's working respond out here please
single vehicle
I think UGA students so
UGA is notified their supervisors coming
the one that's talking he says I was in
the back seat or no he was the front
seat passenger he was looking down at
his phone he honestly couldn't tell me
but all of this to do the damage they
did yeah hi I'm coach again yes sir
coach salt is gonna call
somebody let me come find out what's
going on yeah
it's early
um looks like two of your guys were
riding with a couple of females they
were leaving downtown on their way to
the Waffle House up here to get
something to eat yes sir
but yes sir come through the curve lost
control hit the power pole a couple
trees tore the vehicle up pretty good
holy [ __ ] yeah no
yep right about just about 10 feet this
side of the front of his SUV is where
she hits the curb blows out the tire
that's why it's all wobbly and real wide
yep well and I mean he's throwing it and
stuff so
she just did miss that
we typing it yeah
a lot of people are starting to come out
and wander yeah so nobody ever called
you and told you about the wreck you
just rolled up on it no no we they
talked about that who called you my
teammate who's all going to Waffle
what's his name uh JC JC who's that uh
Jen and Carter okay how did he know
about the wreck bro I was on the waffle
house but Jalen Carter's not in the car
that wrecked
[Music]
so was he he in the car in front of them
I guess and saw it in his rear of your
mirror or something I guess they told me
to get up here and I told you all we're
going to my house we talking about
waffles so Jalen Carter called you and
told you yeah
what'd Jalen say y'all well what do you
say
come on Jalen when he called y'all
I'm pretty sure he was in shock if he
saw it if not if he just you know drove
up on us and either way he's gonna be in
shock so
hurry up get down here
did he say uh if he was behind him or in
front of him
okay okay
just get here that's it get here get the
[ __ ] here man hey gotcha okay
to come back they're gonna talk James
he's on the way back oh he's okay okay
cool cool cool
so you don't mind if they hang out real
quick
Jaylen Sergeant Schulte with the police
department sorry we got to meet like
this bud
all right so the two players that drive
that thing were telling me they got a
phone call from you telling them the
wreck happened how did you know about
the wreck I heard it I came down heard
it from where Bud where were you at
I was close to where them players was
down at Icon
okay
you heard this wreck from that far down
the road you know I was coming I was
actually behind them because how far
behind them were you
rough guess put it in yards for me
you see the tail lights on their car
okay
so you are I'm guessing following them
to Waffle House
so they're ahead of you
okay
rough guess
how far ahead do you think 100 yards 200
yards 50 yards
let's try this
see the patrol car with the just the
parking lamps on and the little blue
lights that are staying still
were you that far behind them or farther
than that
yeah
it started flashing oh yeah
okay so you're you're close enough to
them to at least see the tail lights of
the car
okay
how fast were y'all going
what were you driving
what kind of car is it buddy
okay one of the Jeep trucks or just a
Jeep Jeep
okay
so you're following them to Waffle House
you're behind them
pretty close to them you're not too far
behind them
so you see them
go through this this pops you go
underneath it before this falls down and
you come to a stop on the other side of
it
did you call 9-1-1 after you called your
teammates
okay so somebody that lives in the
complex to die of course a lot of people
come down
all right so the next question I'm going
to ask you I need you to be honest with
me okay were you guys racing to Waffle
House
because I can tell you right now from
look at the damage that car they were
moving yeah
okay what makes you say that
okay I've seen them downtown but I want
to see like I was with them I was just
walking it was okay yeah sure you know
who was driving that one
I think it was one of the girls okay how
do you know the girls what do they do
part of football or am I part of
football okay what do they do for the
team
oh okay I just figured you knew right
okay so everybody's downtown having a
good time after the parade today and all
that stuff
and you're I mean you're you're fairly
close to them headed
but they're they're pulling away from me
because they're going faster than you
right she was super fast
all right get your driver's license will
you but I just need to write some
information down damn do you wear your
shoes
God almighty
oh Florida
man stop playing you from Apopka Florida
I grew up down there
I didn't know
if you go to the same high school as
Warren Sap
yeah I lived up that way Arrow Estates
hot dog
hello
yeah
you know I feel like you're trying to
get your son out of here
you go Jaylen
so I'm not trying to get anything out of
you I'm just trying to find out
how this happened
what you saw of it because you're a
witness right
now
well so that I mean you saw it happen
you're a witness right that that's it
we're not trying to say that you're
involved in or anything like that but
this this is like a giant puzzle we got
to put back together right
the one dude that came out my friend
Warren where is he uh give me Warren's
last name I'm sorry
the one who's outside the car
s
okay everybody went to the hospital
so I mean you know
um
no all right so do you remember what
Lane you were in
I'm assuming you were in the left lane
but do you remember for sure if that's
it
because you had said a second ago you
were kind of like behind them but beside
them okay
is there anything else you can think of
what exactly do you remember seeing when
flash yeah
oh sure absolutely okay so you saw the
Sparks from all of this and then you
slide under it just before it comes down
you remember if your Jeep got hit by any
of this
okay
yeah that's that's all the Transformer
things popping
uh
how fast you think they were going
to be
she weren't running them right okay
all right
did you go down to the car
that's all okay
[Music]
you need anything from us
I know you're
two buddies are over there with Coach
Gantt and his car over there
um
if you want to go over there and be with
them right now all right that's all I
need from you for right now thanks buddy
of shoes man it's called
