You have anything on you? >> I'm just worried about anything that's going to stick or poke me real quick. >> No, >> nothing. Just wallet. That's it. >> All right. You can talk to you. >> Huh? >> I want to talk to you. >> Okay. Give me one second. Okay, take a seat. Sit tight and we'll talk in a second. >> Hey, just that's locked. Just hang tight for both them for me. >> Hello. >> You want me to come back or >> um you you can Perfect. >> And just so you know, I am still recording. Okay. >> Okay. All right. So, um, this customer came to cash a check and then when I called the owner of the check and he's on the phone, they want me to call the police because you can talk to him. >> Okay. Well, let me let me finish from you. >> Okay. So, because they cash it, they stole his checks both. Okay. >> And they already cashed two check, I think two or one check for him. So they was looking for this person. That's why he want me to call the police. >> Okay. And this is the check that he gave you. >> Okay. >> And that's the >> Let me see what the ID says. Bolton William. Okay. Uh were they they both together? >> Yeah. >> They were both talking about the transaction together and everything. >> Okay. And so he provided the the ID and that >> Okay. Let me do you mind if I talk to him? >> Is there a way to put this on speaker phone? >> Hey, it's Officer Fischer, City, West Palm Beach Police Department. Yes, >> good. Good. What What's your name, sir? >> Johnny. >> Johnny, have you already previously reported these checks stolen? >> Yes. Uh, somebody cash I moved up here on the 8th of January in Jer, Georgia, and somebody has wrote a check for $525, I believe. Well, they went to Bank of America and Bank of America, according to Chase, cashed the check. Okay. So, they shut my account down with that, uh, 2925 last four numbers. So, that account has been closed. So, uh, we were trying to find out who was doing it because two, I think it was a week ago, somebody tried to get a Walmart membership using what I think they call a ADA using the routing number and the the check number. >> Okay. >> And they've been doing that for the last two for almost the last month. And I called Chase and they keep sending me fraud alerts. Well, that account has been shut down for about three weeks, three or four weeks now. >> Okay. >> And I didn't give the no checks. >> The um the check stolen to the bank. >> To the Chase Bank. And they shut the account down. Everything. >> And do you know what date that was? >> Uh what day did we move up here? >> We I moved up here on the 8th. So that check was done I think it was around the 10th or the 11th. Might have been the 10th. Oh, January. >> Yes, sir. That the check was written. Uh, Chase didn't crash it because they know my signature stuff. They refund me the money. >> Okay. And but did you make a did you did you make a police report and report the check stolen >> in Georgia? In Georgia, I did, but not down there. >> Okay. Do you have um were were the checks originally stolen in Georgia or were they stolen in Florida? It was stolen in Florida. See, I I believe uh it had to be around the time that I moved. >> Okay. Did you have anybody move? Help you move? >> Yes. >> Do you know their names? >> Oh, my daughter has hurt some of her friends. Hold on a minute. This is her. >> Hello, sir. >> Yeah. I'm I'm just trying to find out if the person that cashed the check um or tried to cash this check today if you if you if you know who they are. >> Okay. So, let me get you the the um the first and last name. I can uh pull it up because when this originally happened, they sent us a copy of the check itself. And so, I recognized the name on the check because it was somebody I trusted to help us move. And so I have their name, first last name, and I also have their phone number. >> Okay. What's What's their name? >> It's the first name. Uh, let me go back to so I can get the correct spelling for you. Give me two seconds. Um, Jeremiah. And I know it sounds crazy because we have the same last name, but there is no relation at all. >> Okay. >> Um, the first name is spelled Y. >> Okay. Well, hold on one second. So, that's the person that helped you move. I'm trying to Okay. So, um is there anyone else that helped you move? >> Um no, that's the person who uh stole the first check who who stole the checks in the in um who stole the checks, period. And what happened was they stole more than one. So, I'm assuming they're trying to get other people to cash these checks in their name. >> Okay. How do you know that that's the person that stole the checkbook? Um because that was the only person that was in the house. >> So when when did you guys move that when the checkbook was stolen? And where did you move from? >> Okay. So she moved from West Palm Beach, Florida. >> Where? West Palm Beach. >> Um she was living uh in those condos on Congress. Uh the address is 1900 North Congress Avenue on West Palm Beach, right across from the outlet mall. >> Okay. When and when did he move? What date? >> We left um Florida, let's see, 6 7 on Sunday the 8th, and they attempted to, I guess, cash the check on the 9th, but we didn't get word of it until the 10th. >> All right. Well, let me do this. Let me call you back. Let me get going on this, and I'll give you guys a buzz back. I'm going to call you from a block phone number. Okay. >> Okay. Perfect. and I'll I'll try to get the rest of that information for you when you call back. >> Sounds good. Thank you. Appreciate you. >> I appreciate you. Thank you. >> Yep. Byebye. >> Byebye. >> Okay. Uh I have it. So um he gave you his ID. He attempted to cash the check. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Um obviously you guys didn't cash the check. Um >> but you have to verify to >> Okay. When you can you put that down so I can take a quick statement from you and then I need to get your ID. >> Oh. Oh, I don't have my ID with me. >> That's fine. You can just give me your your name and information. >> Just give me one second. >> No worries. I understand. I'm actually I'm going to step over and use your restroom real quick. So, >> so I'll explain. [clears throat] >> Let me uh let me just get a case number real quick. So, I'm I'm back on recording. Okay. >> Um basically, I'm just going to ask you um to tell me tell me what happened. I'm going to swear you and you just tell me what happened. Okay. Nothing special. >> She brought the response. Can I get a case number? >> All right. So, my name's Officer Fisher. 2125 city West Palm Beach Police Department. Time is currently 18:26 on February 7th, 2023. The statements in reference to agency case number 23-2351. This investigation is uh in reference to a stolen attempted cash check. Um I'm attempting to get the statement from what's the check cashing store? >> Um u 1675 >> 1675 Sweet Abe Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard. Present with me is Miss Williams, if you would just raise your right hand. All right. Do you swear the testimony you're about to provide is the truth? The whole truth, nothing but the truth. Yes, sir. I do. >> Okay, perfect. Just kind of give me an rundown on what happened, why we're here. >> Um, well, Mr. William came into our store trying to cash a check. >> Mr. Williams, this is uh Mr. >> Got it. Go ahead. >> Yes. And he came into our store >> um trying to cash a check and I asked him where he got the check from. He said that he did some tile work for this guy. Never stated the guy name. So I asked him what the guy name was. So he was like, "Oh, his name was John." So I assumed it was John Jones. So as I looked them up in the system, we have things we have to do here as protocol. So when we get into the protocol system and we pull them up or everything as far as with the maker of the check, it was nothing coming up with this person. >> Um even with a phone number and it's kind of strange because of the address and everything was different. That's some things we look for. >> So, we looked and my manager, which is Edwin, she looked at the check, looked at it, and we called, we verified, we realized the person that we spoke to was recognizing that his chest was getting stolen. He recognized that um prior to that, his chest was getting stolen. So, he recognized that this check was getting stolen. So, he um just advised us to call the police. >> Okay, perfect. And then um >> then I recognized the young lady that came with him cuz he was at the window. She looked over, but then she sat back down, but we knew it was some suspicious somewhere. >> Um but that was it. And >> they just didn't look right to me. >> Okay, no worries. Is there anything else you want to add to the statement? >> Um no. I mean, just the man. >> Okay. Um >> I don't have anything to say. You have anything to say at >> Well, that's a separate interview. Um, did did you agree to provide the statement of your own free will? >> I'm sorry. >> Did you pro did you agree to provide the statement of your own free will? Yes. >> Okay. And was all the information you provided in the state of the truth? >> Yes. >> Okay. The time is currently uh 1828 hours. >> Mhm. >> And what what's your name, dear? >> Edwin. >> Edwin. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And again, just explain to me what happened you guys with the check and then you calling. Go ahead. >> Okay. So the guy um his name what's his name? >> This this gentleman right here. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And then he came here to cash a check. first time customer and we put him on the system and my coworker gave me the check to verify and when when we called the number that we get from the system cuz we have our own system to verify check >> and when I call the the maker the person the owner of the check said the check was stolen. >> Okay. So you spoke to Mr. John Jones. >> Yes. >> Correct. Okay. >> And called the police. >> Okay. And that's you guys hit the lock button and called for us. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Is there anything your statement? >> Okay. And was any money provided to him? >> No. >> Okay. >> Within cash? Yeah. >> Okay. And uh was this statement provided your own free will? >> Yes. >> And everything you said in the statement is the truth? >> True. >> Okay. Thank you very much. >> All right. >> What's up, man? >> How's it going, brother? I came out of face farm and I walked and rode the train here. I don't have nothing. >> Okay. >> I'm trying I was at the train station with money to go home and someone stole my money. I'm out here spinning a sign trying to get back to Orlando and she walks up to me and says, "You want to make 50 bucks and cash a check?" It's my own stupidity, man. I just want to go home. >> Okay. All right. Hang tight. Let me let me read this real quick. Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. So listen, I'm required to warn you before you make any statements that you have fine constitutional rights. If you would just tell me that you do or don't understand these. All right? And I'll go from there. Okay? You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions. If you would just tell me you do or don't understand. >> Okay? You understand your rights? All right. Do you want to finish talking to me about what occurred? >> I was leaving the store. >> Just you understand your rights? >> Yeah, I understand. >> Okay. Would you do you wish to continue talking to me? >> Yeah, I'll talk to you. >> Okay. So, here's what I want to know. So, you you're not her her boyfriend. You don't know. So, what did she tell you? >> It's a check that she got from her friend, her h boyfriend. I went over there. I met him. >> What's his name? >> I don't know his name. I just met him. >> Where'd you meet him at? >> At the store. What store? >> The one right there by Taco Bell. I've been staying in a trash can while I'm trying to get money out to go home. >> I got you. >> And um she they were going to give me 50 bucks and I would have got my train ticket, man. >> All right. So, she says, "Give you 50 bucks for you to cash a check." >> Yeah. She didn't I didn't know if it was bad or not, >> but I should have. >> Okay. Did Did you Did you assume that this was going to be a bad check? I didn't think so. I mean, I guess I don't think so. >> Okay. Who filled out the check? >> She did. >> She filled out the check? >> Yeah. >> Okay. How much was the check for? >> 400. >> 400. And you were going to get 50 of it. >> She said that she would give me something. I was just hoping to get home. >> All right. What's the What's the boyfriend look like? >> It's a black gentleman. Um it's like the first or second apartment on the corner there. two alpha. >> I I I'm not familiar with this place. >> I got you. >> I'm just I just want to go home, man. >> All right. You got anything else you want to add to the statement? >> Hey, dear. Listen up real quick. Okay. >> I'm going to read you your rights, okay? Just tell me if you understand them. All right? After each one I tell you, just tell me if you do or don't understand so I can explain to you. Okay. All right. So, I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the fine constitutional rights. Okay. Any statement can and will be used against you in the court of law. Yes, sir. >> Do you understand your rights? >> Do you want to talk to me about what happened here today? >> Um, yes. Um, okay. I have I don't have nothing to do with this. >> Nothing to do with what? >> This. >> What is this? >> This um checking. >> Okay. What about it? >> Um, >> how did you guys get up here talking? >> He um we we I rode the bike. He's my boyfriend. I told he told me that um he did he do he did a job for um for um for for a random guy off the street. >> Who did? >> He did. >> This guy. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> And um that he was going to the person was paying him. >> Okay. >> Like $500, I guess, whatever. And I told him I was I said I just told I said I I will come with him um up here. >> Okay. >> With him, you know, but I didn't I don't have anything to do with that. Okay. Why would you come with him? >> Because we were supposed to be going out to eat after the day. That's what he told me. >> Okay. And how do you know this guy? >> He's my boyfriend. >> He's your boyfriend for how long? >> I've been like for known him for 2 months. >> For 2 months? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Why is he telling me something different? >> What? I don't know. >> So you're saying you've known him for 2 months? >> What did he say? Yeah. >> Heard it. >> So he's saying that this is your check. That's if this was my check, don't you think I would be I would be what's would be the one cashing the check? That's not my check. >> Okay. Well, let me ask you this. How come when I pulled up the first thing you tried to do is get out the front door? >> I was going to go smoke a cigarette. >> Okay. So, you don't think that that's a little a little suspicious that immediately upon seeing police, you try and get out that front door? >> I was just trying to go smoke a cigarette. I didn't I didn't I'm not I'm not even thinking nothing about it, first of all. Okay. >> So, I don't know. >> So, this isn't your check? >> No, it's not. >> Okay.
