at 7:30 p.m. on a Monday officers were dispatched to a miniart in response to a reported theft these are the events that followed hey can you come me real quick I got to talk to you yes what happened I just we got to talk about some St we'll talk about it come on C come here for me real quick come just come this way all right come over here against my car right okay what is this about I'm going to explain it to you okay just hang out okay just just give me a second okay just let me let me get through the steps and then we're going to go from there okay so I'm going to read you something all right just bear with me a second okay you have the right to main Sil do you understand that anything you say can and will be used against you in a court law do you understand that okay you understand you have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being question do you understand that yes yes okay if you cannot afford yeah if you cannot afford to hire a lawyer one will be appointed a represent you before any questioning if you wish do you understand that yes you can decide at any time to exercise these rights not answer any questions or make any statements do you understand that yes all right you understand each of these rights have I explained them to you yes all right having these rights in mind do you want to talk to me about I want to know what it's about all right it's about some lottery tickets okay all right do you know anything about lottery tickets yes okay what do you know about him that I work with them okay what else do you know about them this is I'm I'm giving you a chance to be forthcoming and honest with me so I'm going to give you a chance to tell me what happened uhuh and then based on what you say I'm going to tell you what I know okay but I'm giving you a chance to be honest okay okay that's it okay okay so here yeah there's something happened here about some lottery tickets you're name came up I've been doing a lot of research today let's just put it that way okay okay so look I came up here to talk to you so to give you a maybe there's a logical explanation of this I don't know that's why I'm here to give you a chance to explain so that's what I'm here for go ahead can I talk to my boss no not right now okay well I don't know what am I being blamed for stolen lottery tickets or something do you know anything about any stol lottery tickets not really I mean uhuh you working last Thursday Thursday the 15 15 I don't know I Che my phone I don't know you you were here cuz I I saw I I already know you were here last year oh okay so what I mean I'm just giving you a chance to be upcut this be up front with me that's all anything happen L against last SC J did you make a mistake yeah I probably but I thought I worked that over with him what what what mistake did you make well he said that there was a short or something like that a short of what I don't really remember that's no no I'm asking a short of lottery I guess yeah the count okay when you say a short how do you be is one ticket missing is it like 80 tickets missing I don't know there was a short I guess it was like a maybe a couple like 50 $60 or something like that I guess short in your drawer or no for the cuz you have to actually count them as well okay yeah the tickets were short yeah yeah did he ever say how many were short no and I thought I worked that over I know he came to me and said it but I thought I worked that over where was coming out of my check okay so I don't how much how much was supposed to come out of your check I don't know that's what I'm saying I don't really remember I can look I mean I don't I don't remember so there was short of tickets uh like 50 $60 I I'm think that's one the last thing I remember who discovered the short who talk to you about only person who were discovered is my boss and now when you say my boss you referring to yeah okay yeah so came to you and said there was an issue he'll always come to you if you're if it's short the next day and then he'll let you know and then I'm like okay well not you say work it out do you mean like I'm going to pay yeah I'm going to pay for I'm going to have to pay for it yeah I'm going to have to to pay it back and how much did he say it was at that time I don't that's why I say I can look at my phone I can the DAT but I don't really remember off hand okay that's fine all right um well there's a bunch missing right now a whole bunch a bunch a bunch like so I'm just I'm just being I'm just like I said keep in mind okay I just I just I just want you to keep in mind there's tons of cameras in here yeah okay yeah you did a you tried do a good job but there was some we could still see some things I watched the video so that's what I want I'm just this is your chance to be honest like listen there's people there's bad people in this world and there's people that just make mistakes all right if you just make a mistake say hey look I screwed up I made a mistake it is what it is we own it we move on but then there's bad people in the world that's continually like you know do bad things I don't think and listen to me I don't think you did bad things cuz I can tell you right now it looks like you're wearing the same exact clothes you were wearing last week yeah so my guess is it's the holidays Christmas is right around the corner you have any kids yeah you have kids you probably want to give them a good Christmas we have all this stuff going on inflation up everything's up like it's an easy way to make a few extra bucks and it is what it is I think all all that Weighing on you you're a mom you got all this stuff going on it's like again it's Christmas it's the holidays like we made a mistake we own it we move that on and we deal with it is that what happened so I'm not going to De today I mean as of right now you're not under arrest I do have to explain to you that that the reason we're out here is because it's five full yeah that totals about $3500 yeah 50 6 five full row five books there's books missing books books lotet come I know yeah it was nine he had Osama go through his inventory several times and he confirmed that it was not nine it was five okay right because they put back in position or something like that yeah but the big issue is that five books AR miss several of those tickets were cashed time you were working here and you know that because the gaming commission tracks every single ticket to the letter to the second that it wash it's in the thing exactly on duty at this location no else so you cash those tickets wait wait let me let me let me show you something real quick hang out with I just want to show you something all right so this is this is from the gaming Commission State of Florida gaming okay look yeah you know how it works there's the that's the product number there's the book ID number this is missing from the store right look yes here's the this this is where it was paid out to here these books were missing while you were working and they were also cashed out yesterday while I did yeah while you were working but here's the thing nobody else is out there right register while you're cashing these out again here's another one you yesterday right before it another one these this whole book is missing entire book the entire book wow no and I didn't okay I'm just I'm being honest with you I'm I'm showing you a little bit paper no this is just the paper like this is two of the papers that I have I have all of this we've work on this since about 9:00 morning yeah so like I said this was just your chance to like yo officer I screwed up and here's the thing I need to let the state know I have to let the state know how many are gone because now there you got to think about this too there's innocent people out there that might have a ticket that maybe he thought was stolen that's not stolen so I need to know how many books were taken but worse there could be like if you gave one out to somebody and sto he didn't know that they go cash it he can get arrested they're going to go to jail now especially because if it's a you know like say it's a jackpot winner for 25,000 he gets charged with stealing $25,000 so what I have to do we got to try to protect other people whoever it is and we need to know how many books we're taking did you was it [Music] I get it I get this this is a huge and you don't want to get anybody else in trouble get you know I get it people make mistakes I understand but look here let me let me goe unfortunately no at this point it's not now the St involv because the that St so look let me tell you this di let me tell you this right now okay I know there is more than one book that you took and I can prove that to you in about half a second okay because look look at look di look look di look like I told you I know it's more than one book okay so you're giving me a little bit we got to be completely honest and hold on just let me finish okay and the reason I know it's more than one book is because look 1218 yesterday 1856 you cash one that's from one book at 1857 you cash another one at 1858 you cash another one those are from two separate books so I know more than one book I'm not saying I'm to know I don't have I just I understand kids here you're not on London crust anymore no I we got evicted like what hotel you at last night I stayed at the Holiday end okay but I the one in wien or the one over there my house right yeah at a Paca Island and 50 by the Sam's Club I'll my kids are out here I understand let's work through this first let's start off with let's Mr rewind let's start let's go back to just you know be let's be 100% honest because again I got to let the state know I need to tell the state how many books to your best recollection um I don't know I don't know four or five books were taken and you took them all on the 15th when they came in well no I see the bag well actually the bag was in the GU I don't know if one of my coworkers thought it was trash and I should have been to did the right [ __ ] thing and turned it back in found the trash yeah the whole the bag was in I don't know if they thought it was trash it was like it was in a bag that it came in like like a shipment okay so they don't come in just like a pred bag they come in an actual shipping bag that says like the yeah it was open though and so you found us in the trash can yeah it was like when I was taking out all our trash outside no no no inside here there were boxes that were and I don't know if they said it to the side and thought I don't know but I took it all out and I looked I'm like and assum they were I just didn't I me being you know like you said I I just didn't like so you just thought they were trash well I well when I looked in the Box I didn't originally see it when I was taking it out and I was giv like yeah and then I'm like I just didn't say hey so you scratch one off you're like oh my God it's a winner I'm like oh it's it's you know and I didn't so I didn't like to take them from my boss you know I took out the trash I'm like oh this meant to be or not like and I just me being like you know with this time like you guys said I just didn't say hey here's let here's here's here's I believe I believe they might have been found and they I believe they were probably in that corner in the bottom over there but here's the thing about it I watched you remove the cellophane plastic activate the book yeah after I brought them back in I'm like you activated them and then you kept looking over your shoulder at the camera up here and then you put them in another plastic bag so you knew they weren't activated right yeah guess what I'm saying they weren't activated that's why you activated them but I'm like supposed to go out or they were here I took all the boxes out I'm thinking like okay and I'm like well like a mishap somebody look over it or something like that and this m was fake you know I'm sorry I'm not trying to where are the rest of the tickets have you cashed them all in no you got winners at the house well no they're not at my I don't have a house the at your hotel they at a storage unit my so you haven't given any out I didn't give any to anybody I return it not hold on have to make sure okay all right so I understand the tickets are all except for the ones that you got yeah yeah the yeah how many have you cast just that just these three these three tickets I'm just asking I just look look here I don't want to blame you for something something that you didn't do see it's just as important to us that we find the guilty party as it is that we so if you do you have any those tickets here on car nothing in your pockets so what was the the idea cash like I mean how we do as as you scratching off you just wait to see if a big winner I mean I don't think plus it's some extra money that's you know just few extra bucks time of year and like I said the big thing these days is inflation that's huge thing these kind of days because people are so desperate desper very M I don't think you're a bad person I just think you were you were given I I call a I call a crime of opportunity kind of like it was there and it was kind of like a I might as well there's nobody looking that's what I call thought and I'm like and I could have follow my first and just like hey and you know that's people don't go into these days you know you know what screw my boss I'm going to take it unfortunately it happened you saw as sign maybe this is just got a I mean you just got evicted and I I mean I can I completely understand like I can I can understand that I can I mean he even gave me like I cuz he knows that I'm in a hotel right now so you know trying to find some cheap on that I can rent by the week you know until I get and decide if I'm going to you know either stay here in Florida or relocate I don't I'm from here but I have nobody else here it's just me now okay like I said I don't think you're a bad person I just think you made a mistake I did and I'm sorry I'm sorry I am and I want I want he you know he's a hard ass but he TI you know and I try to cuz you know I'm on call when he Le me you know I just like you said you put it best the opportun was bad that that I have just turned back I come on I should have known that nothing like that go well he's the they're the that were looking for them and you know when we start getting involved and the state gets involved and the state don't like it when people start messing with I'm not trying to have that I just you know like you said it was like like we said it was like an opportunity was presented to you like we could have made the the right decision or the wrong decision but we just made a mistake we made the wrong decision like I think that's what happened like I said I don't think you're a bad person I don't think any of that I just think like again like like the tech B inflation is here like like I was saying the holidays are here like it's a lot of stress like you're a parent I'm a parent it's a lot of stress a lot of going on this time of year, the money $3,300 is 3,3 no you someone to bring you she said she has the books yeah they're in a storage unit yeah I don't need the books now I need the money I 3,300 let's go let's work on getting the tickets come on let's go you get your phone I'm saying let's get your phone we need let's work on getting the tickets let's let's let's work on getting money the book I have the books I don't have the money the books are completely full like I don't have it well the books are reported still the books are not good yeah the State of Florida stolen already stolen and we will pay the boook is cancelled we need the money to pay for the lottery office now okay Sam I will get that for you okay give me the money I'm saying well I don't have it all you want my check you I have two check that that's it if you don't have it you you you deal with the let let's let's work look let's work on getting the tickets begging you for why did you do that come on come on come just ask some one second we're almost this is not the time to do all this he's already kind of said what he wants to say we can't sit here we're not going to sit here and Badger him okay let me can I grab my stuff we'll get all your stuff let's work on let's call your mom call your mom let's go talk to your mom let's go let's call your mom let's work on getting the tickets let call let's work on that get the the lottery books to give them back to him right okay do you have a consent to search in your car take look uh that's a copy of their okay so we're going to we're going to try and get him his property back okay so he we're we're going to look for a it's called a consent to search form okay I'm going to need you to sign it and you're going to ride with me you have a key to the storage unit I said they've already been reported and then we'll see how many actually what we got okay so let's see if he has the paper then we'll go from there and we'll try and get all this squared away okay because the more I'm like I just I'm like this is from the bottom of my heart like I like I said you said it was I I understand it I I completely understand like I'm so I don't even have the words
