does work we used to have three boiled mashed and roasted people who are born on Christmas Day have got to try and be better than Jesus how is that going to work that's not going to work it's not going to work is it so not only they going to try and beat Jesus's reputation they they get all the presents in one go yeah that's crap [Music] [Music] it's just 2 days before Christmas and West Midland's paramedics Dena Evans and Dan crutchley are gearing up for the big day if I wear a little green hat with this green uniform the will look like an elf it's got pointy ears on it oh God and what about you I don't dislike working Christmas um I think the only ones I don't like is you know when you go ask people that are on their own and you feel sad they're work they're like you go out to them and they they've had a microwave meal or something they're on their own they've got no family and you think I don't like them ones and you just sort of wish that you wasn't wor so you could take them dinner with I'm going to have dinner at mine I've already got 17 people at my house but you know one more won't hurt so we're going to an 88y old female who's had a fall no injuries but stuck on the floor and she has pressed care line glennis lives alone she alerted the ambulance team with the emergency alarm she wears around her neck when the crew arrive she's been on the floor for nearly an hour hello luckily they can let themselves in with a key left out for her carers hello it's the ambulance service are we in here are you behind the door are you behind the door I think that's an interesting thing this one piece will make 52 layers watch on mobile devices or the big screen all for free no subscription required download V now what's that it's the ambulance what's your name what's happened today what happen yeah what's happened I was just trying to get it oh dear and did you fall over yeah did you feel unwell before you fell no no oh that was you didn't feel dizzy or anything like that have you hurt yourself anywhere no should we make a plan to get you up off that floor shall we please do cover me up on froze yeah we'll we'll get a blanket dena's setting up that cushion behind behind you and then what we're going to do is we're going to help move you onto that cushion um and then it will make it easier for us to get you off the floor okay I can't see you hey I can't see you I'm hiding have a look at you she'll come around in a second yeah dena's a face once seen never forgotten what was that for he luy who is he is yeah what I'm a handsome young girl with oh there you go thank you that's probably the nicest thing any of the patients have said to Dena today he actually probably is you've made a day now you have okay yeah I'm just going to shuffle your legs just a little bit more this legs alone they're fine par legs are they dancing legs they used to be exactly I could see that a mile away they used to be I used to love dancing she's trying to pull herself up there anyway right let's see if we can help you to sit up yeah oh that's better isn't it neck what how long have you been on the floor how long I don't know but you said that hurts normal and it didn't hurt when I touched your neck you all right sitting up not feeling dizzy or un well just neck and that oh that one it's that from the fall yeah did you land on that Uncle yeah must have done yeah I think so try and wiggle your foot oh dear dear dear just put me in bed leave with B well we need to look at that ankle first don't we I know you're I just sit myself wow glennice hadn't said anything about her ankle being painful initially it was only as we'd seen the swelling sort of move moved her foot a little bit to assess it assess the damage that she'd said it was painful see if you can move that foot oh is that really painful now it yeah oh dear just put me what are we going to do with you I don't know get in bed on me oh oh oh oh don't I'm no good to you I'm too old going to say it's not every day you get an offer like that now we've rolled you over and we can see that ankle a bit better yeah it might be that you need an x-ray I ain't going nothing no way I thought you might say that what have you broken it well still broke oh Glenn is you're going to have to look how swollen it is look at that not tonight c yeah yeah should we go and get an x-ray on it it just say [Music] so right Glen so I want you to lean to Dan so lean to your right that's it I've got you I don't F your [Music] [Laughter] face I do you now do you right I need you to need you to lean to me Glen Glenn it takes careful maneuvering for the crew to get glennis safely onto the ambulance hold on to me you like holding me don't you I [Music] do what I'm going to do is to just pop a little splint on your leg to help keep your ankle nice and still that will just help to um stop it from being too painful okay yeah is that painful yeah it is a it do you feel like you want anything for that pain would you like some medicine for that pain or is it not that bad no are you married single partnered widowed divorced widowed where you going Christmas glenis no I got nobody I brother about your neighbors oh I used to go in there yeah every Christmas yeah but I can't go down why well I can't sit up I say to if you sending me my dinner to I always have Christmas dinner of them all I want is two par lips roast two roast potatoes and that's it what no Pigs in Blankets what's pigs in blet what you mean what's Pigs in Blankets sausages wrapped in bacon oh yeah you have to have them years L I bet that must have been quite hard wasn't it have you been alone since yeah are you married me no I'm not married why not I can't find anybody that wants me oh God rubbish Dan's lonely heart will have to wait they've arrived at hospital how you feeling all right must be glad back in bed how's your ancle I don't know [Music] so glennice arrives safely at A and D where she can have x-rays on her swollen ankle I think she's just waiting for an x-ray there room obviously going to find out if she's uh broken her ankle she still doesn't want any plain relief she's so nice though isn't she as well she's one of those people that you just want to be able to take home and feed her isn't she [Music] I would say put a sprout on for posterity sake you know just one or two just there hanging out it's like letting the loser kid sit with you at lunch and like come on come on it's Christmas sit sit you around gather own you own Sprouts oh stuffing by mile what's your favorite part of a step up from a pig in a blanket hog in a do v h a do [Music] it's just days before Christmas and West Midland's ambulance crew Stuart punter and Jamie Busby are weaving through busy festive [Music] traffic you love that bull on yeah it makes a point makes a statement it really does doesn't it it's a statement of UN com through do not get in my [Music] way suspected fit of seizure cold cool or claming updated assignment they've been called out to a supermarket oh there's an elf flagging just down right here never been flagged down by an elf before a 57-year-old man has collapsed while stocking up for Christmas right what's going on I don't know I just um in the queue yeah and just collapsed just collap see it ever happened before no mangit was with his two daughters when he had his unexpected fall did you feel dizzy beforehand or did you just just just went have you eaten and drank today yeah y jack it off if you don't mind how are you on your feet I'm trying to see how I yeah just pop your arm out of a sleeve if you can well been unwell today but I thought for the Christmas I had to get something definely so I had to go shopping okay so stand up for us nice and slowly and we'll do your blood pressure while you stood [Music] up how' you feel how you stood up a bit sort of uh cold shivery you feel dizzy yeah yeah we do your blood pressure here and then just get you straight out in the ambulance out the way of all these people how does that sound concerned that manget may have had some sort of seizure he hadn't had one previously when we asked him so we were concerned this could be something more serious however we didn't want to alarm the daughters in any way we wanted to try and keep everybody calm and relaxed M's daughters are Kieran who's 18 and Karina who's 12 and autistic all right mate you right you sure she just a bit scared after that's that's fair enough wor he's okay he's fine don't worry chick I'm okay before before you collapse did you get really hot yeah yeah yeah cuz as soon as he was lying on the floor immediately just sweat on his face how does he look now color-wise in his face I think look bit than normally is p than normal don't worry Karina did you see what happened to Dad yeah de off it's cuz the way you obviously you know was I shaking yeah like squatting you were doing This and like like a few times and I was kind of like this is bit strange I was like Dad like what are you doing like just get off and then like a few minutes later he just start his voice fell on me he did hit his head I think off the counter off the counter that a feel of your head yeah it happened twice so it happened twice then yeah I can't remember that I just remember falling right can we lift your top up prob easier you okay yeah okay kid you okay yeah you sure yeah all right now I need you to sit down that's what I after completing their tests the crew are able to rule out anything serious I don't think it was a fit I think what happens when you faint sometimes is you do you go wobbly yeah your body starts going what the hell is going on here normally with a a big fit as well you'll you take ages to to come around and no from what you sound you went pale sweaty collaps on the floor you know passed out sounds like you've just had a faint yeah I feel okay I think uh we'll go home what do you want he sure you sure you feel okay yeah I think he's got a bit more color back now and as it's Christmas the crew are carrying the perfect pickme up for someone in need of an energy boost have a chocolate before you go as well take your D have handful sweetheart have a couple have a couple one more go on I'm having a te thank you yeah make sure you have a chocolate before your daughters eat them all um happy with his chocolate manget can now go home and enjoy the holidays with his daughters think there's any work to do thanks so much for all the effort that you made and have a good Christmas oh no Merry Christmas thank you very much you take care happy you take care mate all right see you [Music] later that job a pitos the dangers of Christmas shopping Christmas shopping having a find more common than you think it is that was a good job we had those box of celebrations was yeah treatment by chocolate poor little girl kept his daughter 12-year-old yeah I thought she was going to burst into tears bless her I think you cracked out the chocolate just the right moment yeah I wanted one oh yeah put a smile on everybody's [Music] face so for Christmas I'm hoping for some brand spanking new pink underwear [Laughter] no for Christmas um probably clothes and socks clothes and [Music] socks the big day is just around the corner regular crew mates Stuart punter and leis prer are on the Christmas Eve shift I'm working Christmas day yeah see you in boxingday as well W you I'm no are you not I'm not which is good you've escaped that day yeah so boxing day at least like me boxing day is going to be my proper Christmas Day they've been called to a patient in Dudley Town Center conscious aspir attack fighting for breath chest and upper back pain aspirin not available sat on the steps outside the [Music] PB come outside of a nice warm Pub into the cold dudly air set him off yeah which brings us to the moral of our story children never leave the pub never leave the pub never leave the [Laughter] pub the patient asked a passer by to call an ambulance when he suffered chest pains during a suspected asthma attack like that's the castle it's it yeah there he is L okay hello mate how we doing you're all right what makes you think you're having an asthma attack don't know you don't know okay have you got pain anywhere yeah here so what were you doing when this pain came on drinking drinking what were you drinking no mild the good stuff how much of you had you had a good night good day even you're Irish Irish yeah well I my name from you wel yeah you got me to that one well give it away was it the good jaw or the broad shoulders oh the leak sticking out your pocket you want to hand do you well you know if you got chest pains we need to check you out and take you to the hospital I'm all right you're all right do you all right it's going to be a long night should we go check you out in the ambulance Boo come on boo let's give you an hand come on Bo that's it put some powder in them pins told you that's it have you actually got chest pains yeah right get on the ambulance then get in the ambulance we can check you out when we first went up to the gentleman um who's complaining about chest pain um in his State he couldn't really tell us anymore it is difficult sometimes when you're talking to people who had a little bit too much to drink um particularly common around the holiday season but it's something you've got to be professional you've got to keep your cool and you've just got to let it fly over your head well I'm sure he is sit down I think you're regarded right how long you got these chest panes for they're gone now it doesn't matter so have you got the have you got your chest you know where you are right now right do you know what this is no you have no idea and do you know who we are wsh right you see you got chest pain so we need to check you out don't we cuz we Ambulance Service yeah we got other more important things to worry about though don't we yeah so let's check you out first get your C up this yeah yeah I se it when were you in hospital last then I come to you what was that for me oh yeah what was wrong with it what was wrong with your heart what what was wrong with your heart it was going fast was it did you have any pain with it last time as well yeah well are you supposed to drink with your heart you not supposed to okay how much have you had to drink today I don't know so when the gentleman took his coat off and we did see that wristband on him um that was more of an indication that he was known to Health Services plus his thumping of his chest perhaps it was something a little bit more [Music] serious open your eyes for me wake up for us tired h you fell asleep there I know you know I know I don't need to take a spot of blood from your finger stand all right Bo okay all right Bo oh I see you back to your normal self I'm going to collapse you're going to collapse you're in a good place to do it lying on a stretch yeah right you're up e two that's [Music] it what a way to start the day night on the way to hospital Stuart discovers the patient is married Christ tomorrow t mate you got anything nice for your wife good Lord [Music] hello again lovely to see you we've be over this haven't we a parrot in the room I think keep your arm in there's definitely an airort leis and Stewart's patient will spend the rest of Christmas Eve in A and D where he'll be assessed to see if he needs to be readmitted that was hard work those you're not kidding mate that was hard work are there anything you asked him have you got pain in your chair you struggling to breathe y every other flaming thing what does that mean yeah good health good you consider You' been drinking all day it's probably the only thing he could remember fairly relevant we need something to uh to boost our Christmas spirit again um probably not several pints of mild Santa Claus was got chest P some like you know like I was thinking like a Christmas hat or something I wasn't thinking jobs [Music] [Music] paramedics Laura Hickman and Dimitri Holloway are working the night shift just before Christmas do they reckon they'll have a Christmas special for Wallace and grommet this year do you know what no hav been out as it for ages no I really liked it I love I love W grit was all right what do you mean he's all fre me out why he ad is just weird wasn't he he's not weird he likes cheese oh jeese [Music] R 999 mode activated the message from control is that a two 2-year-old girl has stopped breathing he jobs are they get your head in the right place [Music] yeah is this the little one is it yeah she's just come through that she was unconscious not breathing that's what we saw on these guys a worried neighbor made the 999 call on the Family's behalf the 2-year-old's mother doesn't speak any English and what's happened they said she's just Fallen hasn't she on hold on can we have hold on everyone can we have yourself and this lady in the child is that all right sorry we just got no it's all right it's just everyone's talking around need to work out what's going on really so she was playing and she's falling over just off theity basically she's fell off the set and she was unconscious myom you hello my mom's telling me she when when babies hurt themselves they do tend to hold their breath for quite a while don't they yeah okay and since then she keeps crying and okay it's probably crying but the thing is with everybody panicking around her they pick up they pick up on the emotions yeah and they were crying on the phone so I've come up okay so she's probably just closed her eyes in pain and held her breath then more than anything okay children can temporarily stop breathing when they' Fallen it's kind of the shock of of everything and they're just as they're crying they're trying to catch their breath and it can be quite worrying to watch good she was cuddled up to her mom in the end crying her eyes out bless her but I think Mom's cuddle was probably the best thing for her is she been um okay last few days she hasn't been poly or anything brilliant eating okay drinking okay toilet W of rice everything's fine oh you're not sad [Music] really perfect 36 Happy Days yeah can you do me a favor just get Mom just to have a like have a feel through her hair for any lumps or bumps or anything yeah Mom seems to think just on sorry [Music] darling it doesn't feel like a lump it feels like the shape of a SC if that makes sense yeah yeah you know what it is she started crying she started crying so then they cry started crying and I think they picks up on the emotions yeah I don't live with them he and how I've got I know cuz yeah they frighten the life out of me yeah yeah well when it comes to unconscious not breathing we don't stop we don't stop driving we absolutely hammer it to get Eli I don't think there's any need for it to go to the hospital if you are overly worried you can pop your Christmas tree that's genuinely that's genuinely more festive than mine no presents here yet though let my dad's flat bring tomorrow other be whipped open what language do you speak sry uh they speak Punjabi Punjabi she can teach me some I don't know a lot of Punjabi at all right we'll leave you in peace okay you're welcome no is thank you guys I'm going to try and say it now you're at cafis KF [Music] goodbye I'm glad that job turned out to be nothing more than there is nothing well nothing really better than a sound of a screaming child sometimes and I mean that in the nicest way possible no when you get there though and it's like oh yeah she held a breath you like are you joking as much as I'm relieved as that little bit inside me going oh God [Music] for West Midland's ambulance crewm mates Dan crutchley and Holly Welsh the Christmas excitement is [Music] mounting three that's going to be stuck in your head all day now isge in a tree yeah it's going to be in my head what do you have for Christmas dinner I don't like turkey so I only eat chicken I have to have a special chicken Christmas you we had a Christmas lasagna one year we fed something completely different cuz you have like you have a roast chicken every week like every Sunday so we thought what don't you have very often homemade lasagna and garlic bread who does that on Christmas day well when I was younger I used to have Curry Christmas Curry yeah I'd have like chicken cormer chicken T ni something like that and N bread whilst everybody else at the table is eating like a turkey dinner it's just me being different why not e why not for many of us Christmas is a time for visiting old friends and it's no different for Holly and Dan new assignment oh is it pad pad 4523 64 medication that will help relax his Airways there you [Music] go is that easing at all beautiful as a father of nine and grandfather of 14 Paddy and his wife Beverly are used to accommodating love the time we spend our days going to people we've never met and whil it's nice to meet new people sometimes once you've built up that bit of a relationship with a patient and gain their trust um you
