Hands up. Hands up. Hands up. This is 22-year-old Darian Hobley. Just moments ago, he had fired a single shot at his girlfriend and tried to walk away, but he didn't get far as officers tracked him down within minutes. On August 4th, 2025, police were called to an AutoZone on Broadway Avenue in Bedford for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old Riley Jones unresponsive in the parking lot. EMS rushed to save her as officers began interviewing witnesses. Are you family members or friends? No, I called her sister. Her sisters are Her sisters are on the way. I I seen him jump over that fence. Did you Were you here? Did you witness it? Oh, I was cross street. I seen I heard the shot go off. You didn't hear it? You didn't You weren't here during it? No, I wasn't here. Okay, just in case, what is your name? Well, I don't want to, you know, be What's your last name, Clifton? Just in case, we won't get you involved. >> Well, that was Okay, you're you're free to go if you want. Do you want to give me your phone number just in case? And you were just around here, though? You're just I I was just getting off the bus right there. I heard the shot. And I I seen him run. I seen him run and he jumped over that fence over that fence like that. He had white pants. I'm I'm going to walk Mark, do you want me to start taping off? I taped it. All right. Where were you at? I was pulling out of this truck when I heard the gunshot and I walked around the I seen him over her with a gun. Uh he had the gun in his hand again. So, I went back behind the truck and called 911. Okay. I don't have mine with me currently. All right. I appreciate your cooperation. Was your You're You're You were not involved. Wasn't hit or anything like that. I'm just wondering if we can move Let me make sure detective One second. And you can get out of here, okay? What kind of gun was it? It was a handgun, uh black. It was I think it was more tan. It had something sticking out of the side of it. I don't know what it was. I'm not familiar enough with guns to give you much of a Okay, um would you Would you like filling out a witness statement for us? I can't. I don't I don't have a lot that's going to identify cuz I I cowered behind the truck. Didn't even get a good look at the guy. when I came back and tried to peek around the corner and I was on the phone with 911 he was already gone. Okay. >> So I have I have very little identifying features for you. Can you at least say I heard the gunshot saw a male standing over Can you write that down on a statement for me? All right Jay, let me get that for you. I saw the gentleman argue argue with the gentleman when I came back to my delivery. And then he walked in and asked us to call the police. Then he walked down the side of the building so the only camera that would see him is that one back there. You guys don't have a camera out front here? No, only in the back. Okay. All right guys, just do me a favor. Just stay away from here. Okay? Just stay Witnesses told police the shooting happened during an argument. One person reported hearing a single gunshot and seeing Hobley standing over Jones with a handgun. Shortly after the suspect's mother was found at the scene. She had been called by Hobley after committing the crime. She spoke with officers and shared what she knew about the situation. So what happened, ma'am? This is too much. They've been in a toxic relationship for a little while now. I've called the police on her before. She came over. She broke windows out in his cracked his windshield and tore his car up. I tried to get a restraining order. I live in They told me there was nothing they could do because he lives there and he'll probably allow her to keep coming over there. So I have What is your relationship? >> I'm his Aryan Hobley's mother. Okay. That's the kid in the white pants? Yeah. >> Okay. He had a jacket on. Okay. Yeah. So I asked him to leave her alone. I talked to his family and her family. I'm shaking. And um I asked them to leave each other alone. From my understanding they left each other alone. She came over this morning and was uh ringing my doorbell. They're going to show surveillance footage of her coming to uh the boyfriend's house which is his mom's house. And I do want to know what y'all think after you see the surveillance footage, too. She called said he called her and he hung up on her and I want to know why. He called her and hung up on her. >> This is what she told me and I I want to know why he hung up on me. So, I'm asking her to leave because I don't want you here. Why are you here? She said that they were still dating or whatever the whole time. Okay. Um she was upset cuz he came back in the house. He was done talking to her. He came back in the house and she wanted him to continue to talk to her. So, I asked her kept asking her to leave. She finally left. He came in the house and said I'm going to go to AutoZone. He's supposed to came up here to get his uh battery checked. Is his battery what he Is that the white car his white car there? Well, it's in my name. It's my car. Right. Right. So, he came up here. As he was driving up the uh Libby, I seen her in the middle of the street. She was following him and like trying to hit his car going up Libby Road. Okay. I went back in the house cuz I'm working, you know. I have it on my ring camera where I have a ring alarm where she came over. It should be a report uh as far as her coming over before fighting and hitting him. On 13 to radio. Where did they transport the female to? South Point. South Point. Orange was the one. I don't know. Go ahead. So, I asked her to leave him alone. I said when I went outside to talk to her, I said you need to leave each other alone. Why are you over here? I asked her to leave and she said well, I want to talk to him and know why he hung up on me and all all this stuff. So, like I said, she followed him up here. There was people traffic backed up cuz he was trying to drive straight and she kept trying to crash into his car. >> Go ahead. So, I don't know what happened when they got up here. He just called me and said something bad happened. I was just protecting myself. I'll tell I'll tell them. So, I'm asking him what happened. He said I shot her. I was trying I was trying to protect myself. So, that was all I know. I got his location and I came up here to pick you know. So, he called you up after he shot her and said I was trying to protect myself. >> Yeah. Where's her car at? What does she drive? She drives a gray car. Is that it over there? Or is that your car? That might be her car. This is my car. That might be her car. Who is that female there? I don't know. Are you related to him? Investigators later reviewed Ring camera footage from months before the shooting. The video shows Riley Jones and Hobby outside his home during a chaotic prior incident, which corroborates the mother's account. Yes, you was. Darian, YOU JUST YOU JUST TOLD ME YOU WAS FLIRTING WITH DID YOU NOT, BRO? DARIAN. YOU DID TELL ME CUZ IT WAS IN JULY. WHY ARE YOU LYING? YOU LITERALLY BROKE MY PHONE, BRO. DID YOU NOT? YOU BROKE MY MOM'S PHONE. YOU WAS TEXTING RIGHT AFTER MY BIRTHDAY. YOU WENT TO MY MOMMA'S FUNERAL. You was still talking Darian. You was still TALKING [screaming] TO HIM. I TOLD YOU. YOU WAS STILL TALKING. YOU TOLD ME. YOU TOLD ME. I TOLD YOU. YOU MAD CUZ I BROKE YOUR YOU BROKE my phone, bro. DID YOU NOT? >> [screaming] >> DID YOU NOT BREAK MY PHONE, DARIAN? BRO. DID YOU NOT break my You talking to him, [ __ ] Hello. You broke MY PHONE. YOU BROKE MY WINDOW, DARIAN. AND IF I BROKE YOUR WINDOW, DARIAN, WHAT? You never told me you breaking my phone. Darian, you broke my phone, Darian. I broke your I broke your phone, [ __ ] Come on. DON'T MOVE. I DON'T GIVE A [ __ ] RIGHT, AND THEN I WAITED BECAUSE YOU CALLED ME. DON'T TOUCH ME, Y'ALL. >> [screaming] >> DAMN, Y'ALL. HOLD ON. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH. DAMN. [screaming] SO, THE COPS SHOWED UP THAT TIME. THIS IS the months before he shot her. Um I think she's going to come back again on this ring cam, and then it goes back to what happened in the present of this body cam. You was yelling at my daddy. YOU WAS YELLING. YOU WAS YELLING. >> HOLD ON. IT'S YOUR FAULT. OVER HERE. YES OR NO? Because here here's the thing, we trying to trespass her and you said that you don't want her back over here, then you can put her on the trespass. We're not damaging your mom's stuff. It's just a yes or no question, man. You listen, making any sense that she's coming over here and damaging your mom's stuff? So, I advise you strongly to let, you know, of course let us do our job and not allow her to be come back over here and let her know that she's not welcome back over here. Okay? Do you Do you Do you want her back over here? Okay. Riley Jones was later arrested and trespassed from the property that day. Another clip from the day of the shooting shows Jones back at the same home just moments before everything unfolded. Why are you back over here? I came to talk to Darian. I asked her not to come back over here. Okay, can you ask Darian to come out? [ __ ] [laughter] I'm sorry. I didn't come over In that video, she does not appear aggressive and is not seen holding any weapons. Eventually, the victim's friend, who had been with her throughout the event, explained what she knew to officers. You wouldn't mind. I think this is her car. Yes. So, I think we should keep this lady out of this car. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Hang on. Hang on. So, this is her car, correct? Okay, so we're Yes, you're going to be leaving this. Yes. Okay, well, can I get my purse and my Where's your purse? Were you in the car with her? Yeah. Okay, were you driving or were you driving? >> was in the passenger seat. Where's your purse at? My purse is right here. That's my car. This is my purse right there. That Lululemon thing and then that's my MacBook. And he never got in this car, correct? No, no, not while we were driving. Not in this car. You're good to go. Yes. Okay, you're welcome. Ma'am, just real quick, you you can't Sorry. You can't You were with her the whole time. >> entire time. >> What So, what happened? Like, what did >> They were just arguing. The argument got so The argument just got to a point where >> Started over in Mhm. Okay. And she she said, "Pull over. Let's talk." So, eventually they end up pulling over in AutoZone. She gets out the car. They put the She parked here? No, she parked behind his car. I moved the car when she got out the car. So, I moved the car when um when um when I went to pull off when I thought he was coming back out another time. Yeah. Yeah. That's when I went to pull So, he went in AutoZone and out of AutoZone Yeah, he shot again. Went in. He shot, went in, told him to call 911. And then came back out. >> And then came back out. >> like tried to pick her up. >> Oh, they didn't I didn't see that. He came right up to her, which was right in the general direction of me, so I went back behind Yeah, and that's why I ran into the car to pull off cuz I'm not I don't shoot me. Like, He already don't like me, so don't shoot me. All right. So, um And then so when I pull off and I see that he's trying to pick her up and trying to help her, I pull the car back around cuz I'm like, "Okay, maybe he's a little bit more sane right now." And I think when I heard the ambulance coming, that's when I pulled the car over here to get out of the way of the ambulance. >> Sure enough, yeah. Yeah. What what So, the interaction, you were sitting in the car right behind when he shot her? Yes. >> What was going on during that time? Um, so she came back to the car the second first So, she went to his car, they talked for about like 5 minutes, she came to her car asking, "Did I find the phone?" I found her phone, I handed it to her. Phone is like done for, it doesn't work anymore. And um, I handed it to her, and so I go back to the She goes back to the car. I'm still sitting by the driver's seat. She said, "You broke my phone again, for the second time." And then um I don't know what happened in that little amount of time, but as he's getting out the car, I hear the gunshot. It didn't even sound like a gunshot, it sounded like a BB gun, like a firecracker, something like that. It didn't sound like a gunshot. So, I'm like Where was she standing when that happened? Like, this is This is the door, this is his driver side. This is This is him getting out the car, he shot her. She fell on her back. >> pretty much fell back. >> Yeah, she literally just fell back. She didn't even like There was no fight back, no nothing. She just fell back. I heard her scream my name, and as I was about to get out the car, I seen him walk back out of AutoZone. So, I'm like, I don't I don't want to get shot. So, I pulled the car off. >> he shot and went in >> in AutoZone. >> You told them to go call 911. What do you think is her first step? Okay, there's a few things so far that I didn't understand, and I wanted y'all to weigh in on. Maybe the friend's in shock, but it's kind of I don't know. The way she's relating is like it's real casual. Like, I guess she didn't think her friend was going to die, maybe? Like, I don't know. And then, I don't know if they asked her again about how the cars were positioned, but I do feel like whenever she says it, she plays it down and her friend was driving aggressively behind him because we saw the ring cam and how she acted on the first time. Second time she was kind of more calm, but still looking for trouble in my opinion. And then you see if that's the same day on the second time, maybe she didn't look aggressive in the ring camera, but she definitely looked aggressive or what they what they described later of how she was chasing him, you know, to auto zone. It wasn't a let's meet at auto zone to me. It seemed like she was chasing him. I don't think by the time she got out the car that she presented a threat enough to shoot her, but I did see how aggressive she is and I don't know why again toxic couple. I don't know why she even wants to keep dealing with him if he's texting another girl at her mom's funeral on her birthday and everything else and I don't know why he keeps entertaining it. He should have just stayed in the house in my opinion. Like I don't know why why did you come outside? Why did you like why did you why did y'all keep engaging in this? But I I still don't think a gun should have been involved. I think either he should call the cops cuz they already know her history. Don't get out the car. Don't let her touch you anything like that. I You know what I mean, but I did see how she was aggressive. Not saying she deserved to get shot, but I I I'm not going to ignore how she she could get physical. Yeah. Came when he came back outside. It looked like he tried to pick her up to put her in his backseat, but eventually it looked like he just gave up and I don't know where he went because I'm too busy on the phone listening to 911 telling me to do CPR. Right. Right. And at this point I'm kind of I'm kind of like just going through the motions. I don't really know where he went. Somebody says he he ran and then that's what distracted me and somebody else took over for CPR and then I'm with to go move her car cuz I heard the ambulance and then that's when everybody came. Did she Did she Do you a firearm? No, my best friend does not have a firearm. Okay. As far as I'm aware. She's never talked about having a gun. And she's under age, so she can't go and purchase a handgun. How old is she? She's 20. She just turned 20. Okay. Um So again, she didn't get out of the car with a gun or threaten him with a car like you didn't say anything? >> with She literally got out of the car with her body. She didn't even have her shoes on. Okay, and she was mad about the broken phone? >> Yeah, when she came back to the car she was like, "You broke my phone again. You broke my phone again." When do you think he broke her phone? The first time? Was it No, this time. >> Oh, I'm I'm I think when she said she said, "When you hit my car you broke my phone." He hit her car? Yeah. Where did he He tapped He tapped her the side of her car when we were driving. This little dent right here. Okay. That and pushed her mirror in in the mirror. So the front was that's old damage? >> Yeah, this is this is old. Okay. Um And nothing back here. So where did that happen at? Uh honestly, I could not tell you where we were driving. The whole time I'm I'm on my computer playing The Sims while all of this is happening. >> Sims? Yeah, it's a game. It's just a game. >> [laughter] >> But I'm just playing a game on my computer while they're arguing. arguing. Yeah. >> Okay, and they're like driving while they're driving they're arguing or this is while you were here they were arguing? Well, while they were driving nobody's arguing. They're just going to AutoZone. And then So they were like cutting each other off and >> Um she was behind him the whole time. That's That's that part. If her she I don't know if it's true or not, but she made it seem like he used his car to tap the girlfriend's car, but now you're saying she was behind him the whole time, which leads me to believe she got that damage because she was ramming his car. If she's behind the whole time and you're like, "Oh, nothing's going on yet. I was playing my game." But also you're saying he tapped her car, but she's chasing him. So I didn't understand that part. Out for me. I'm She was behind him? >> Yeah. Was she driving up next to him at all? Um she did one time. So she was like, "Can we pull over?" And I don't know what he said to her. But I'm guessing he said AutoZone, like let's go to AutoZone. Cuz we end up at AutoZone. Where did that happen? Over in Libby or over there? >> to say so. I want to say so. >> contact occurred, too? I want to I want to say. And then you decided to come here for AutoZone? That's where Yeah. And did she pull in right Um I think so. I'm not really too positive. >> Okay. Jones' friend said they had followed Hobley to the AutoZone. She told police Jones confronted him about a damaged phone, and moments later Hobley shot her. Meanwhile, officers canvassing the area spotted a man matching the suspect description walking near the intersection of Broadway and Leonard Avenue. The man was Hobley. Officers approached with weapons drawn and ordered him to the ground. 64 is out with him. Put the phone down. Put your hands up. Hands up. Hands up. Hands up. Hands up. I got you. You're good. Stand up. Don't touch his hands anymore. Give me my phone. Yeah, we got it. >> [screaming] >> All right, look at the back of the driver's side. Where's the phone at? On the ground? Uh he got it. All right. Yeah, he's got the phone. All right, come on over here. All right, face this way. Spread your legs for me. What's going on? What hap- What happened to that? Um I told her he was supposed to get that back. I was making my way over there to just stop and um I told her pretty much not to come back. Um we kind of got into it this morning and I was telling her come over She was coming to my house, and I was telling her please do not come to my house. I told her my house is not her house. I was telling her to just move. Because I was getting into a scuffle with my mom. She was talking to my mom and my mom and we got into a fight. Sorry to say. >> [laughter] >> I didn't want to fight her. She came to my house. She was fighting her. My mom told her to leave. She kept going. Who is she? Huh? Who is she, please? Um my girlfriend. I told her to leave me alone. I don't want to be bothered. I feel threatened. And want me to keep my leg in there? No, go get your leg in there. Where's the gun at? I threw it away. Huh? I threw it away. Where? In this sewer. Huh? In this sewer. Which sewer? Hobley complied and was taken into custody without further incident. Police noted what appeared to be blood on his clothing at the time of the arrest. Hobley told officers he had thrown the gun into a nearby sewer. Police searched the area and recovered the weapon, described as a tan and black 9-mm handgun. He also agreed to speak to officers on the scene. All right, listen. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You can't afford an attorney won't be appointed to you. At this time, do you understand your rights? Okay, is there anything you wish to tell us? I know you said that there you got into it with your girlfriend, right? Where do you Where do you Where do you live at? 35 radio And she came to your house today? Yes. How'd you get over here? I was going to AutoZone because I have a bad battery, I believe. You were at AutoZone, she followed you to AutoZone? She went to somebody else's house. They eat there. That's all I got. And then followed me over there. She drives by my car. She's been following me all through traffic. I've been telling her to just leave me alone. I've been telling her to have her away from my car, cuz she keeps violating me. She keeps antagonizing me. She keeps trying to hit me. So, I'm just like, "Okay, can you move?" I've already dealt with her trying to hit me and stuff. So, I've been telling her, "Please move. Please move. Can you move away from my car? Can you not touch my car? Do not touch my car." She opened my car window. She put her hand in the car. I did not know what she was going to do. You were in your driver's seat? Yes. >> In your car? Yes. >> Is your car still on at this point? Yes, it should be. What kind of car do you have? A Chevy Cobalt. What color is it? White. That's your car? It's registered to you? It's registered under my mom. It's your mom's car. So, she stuck her hand inside your car like through the through the window? >> No, she opened the door. She opened the door? Your driver's side door? Okay. And then what happened from there? Um she she put her arm in the car and I just shot. Did you Were you in fear for your life or I I was in fear in general cuz the way she reached, it was where my gun >> Did she have any weapons on her? No, but she reached where my gun was. And where where where where was your gun at when when she reached in your car? It was by your seat. On the left side? On the right side. On your right side, like in between the center console? Yes, she reached over. >> Like to to by your right knee? Or is it it was like in between the the car seat and the center console? Yeah. Okay. And she was grabbing So, she would have had to grab over you. She did. Did she know what Did she know that you had a gun? Yes. Okay. And what was she What was she trying to do? Why Why were you two arguing and why is she following you in the first place? Did she think she lives with you or something? Honestly, it's just something petty. I don't I really don't understand why it has to get to this point so often. The preventable parts are that he could have stayed in the house. I don't know how bad his mom's car actually needed a battery. I don't know, cuz I feel like they do this push-pull, I chase you, you chase me thing. That's why he keep opening the door. The cop tried to tell him, "Let us just trespass her, but we're not going to do it if you just going to keep letting her come back anyway. The mom wanted a restraining order, but I he agitated her on purpose. I don't under- Okay, so you leave, you go to AutoZone parking lot. Why did you roll your window down after she's been She was side-swiping him. Why do you roll your window down? Like what And then you have you have the gun in the center. Everything escalates when you already own a gun because then that's your backup plan and and and you don't always consider, "Huh, how's this going to turn out if I actually pick up this gun?" She couldn't reach in the car if you never rolled the window down. Really had he never left the house right now, that would have been better to me. But I just called her. I seen where she was at. And I text her >> 30 radio. She didn't answer. And then when I called her, she said, "Okay, she was getting weed." Okay. She got up. I'm good. She said, while we was on the phone, while she called me again, So is one of these sewers around here? Couldn't be far, right? We're going to have to get it. So your cooperation is going to help out a lot. I don't know which sewer. You don't know which sewer? I just don't I don't know what to do. You don't know what to do. How old are you? >> 22. I'm supposed to be in the I'm going to the military soon. You're supposed to be going to the military soon. Yes, off That's off the table. Military's off the table. Um also, the cops already had a history of interacting with her to the point it seemed like they were more tired of her and just tired of him accepting her back to the house. So had he called the police, they already kind of know about her. He actually's in the advantage of advantage of a position of they're by default they're going to be a probably a little biased on who was actually aggressive and they're probably going to think her. And I really do believe she was ramming his car. May not like super hard, but I mean any kind of ramming if you pit somebody on accident, you can hurt yourself and other people, so. What How old are you? 22. You're 22. What What were you going to do in the military? IT IT specialist. Did you Did you apply? Yes. All right. When was that supposed to start? Um I was waiting till October. Waiting till October, okay. All right. Yeah, I know. You're You're going to let This is your ex-girlfriend, current girlfriend, or something? Uh one of them to be my ex. Yes, current. I'm not really too sure how long we've been together. You're going to let You're going to let this girl just kind of ruin what you what kind of future you could have? I didn't know what to do. How many How many times did you shoot? I shot once. Just one shot? Yes. Which hand did you shoot with? Right. Your right hand? Do you know what color the gun is? Um I don't know. Is it gray, white, black? What is it? Brown. Brown gun? Is it handgun? Yes, sir. Do you have um any water? Water? I do not have any water. I just sit tight for us. Unfortunately, the victim, 20-year-old Riley Jones, had been shot in the chest and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Hobley was initially charged with aggravated murder, but later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He has been sentenced to 8 to 10 and 1/2 years in prison for the killing of Riley Jones. Okay. Um like I said, I just I did that one because I wanted to make sure y'all were in here so we could watch the one that's on the thumbnail. I It was preventable. I don't I don't know. On on both ends. Uh I don't know if she ever thought he that he'd shoot her, but he I don't know why he did that. All right. So, this one is from the thumbnail, sniper responds to children being held hostage. I'm freshly off of watching this one, so I'm rewatching it with y'all now. This is Midwest Safety. GET INSIDE! 911 HELLO. HELLO, 911. HELLO. HI, it's 911 operator. What's going on? What's your address? Give me the room with you, okay? They're They're They're on the They're on their way. They're on their way. Is your bedroom door locked? The caller, later identified as one of the children in the household, suddenly hangs up while officers are en route. Black male, blood, white shirt. >> [clears throat] >> Is he still there? Standing in there. Answer the door. It's the police. >> 528, we have the male standing inside, but not answering the door. Answer the door. It's the police. Got a drink in his hand. Hello. Kids are upstairs. >> Where are they? See, that's why I rewatch. I didn't even realize cuz it you know the the the kid called 911 saying his mom was on the floor. She's crying. I missed this where the person in the purple sweater ran out. That's the mom running out while her at least three kids are upstairs with a person that that has a gun. I think it's the mom's boyfriend. I don't think they ever explicitly say it. But I think this is the mom's boyfriend. She runs She's going to and some stuff happens so fast I'm just going to tell you she runs into a neighbor's garage, you know, for a protection. Kids still in the house. I want to keep reiterating her kids are still in this house. And the ne- It's a lot of people calling 911 that they're going to play that y'all are going to hear. Uh the neighbor calls 911 cuz she don't know if that's the shooter in her garage, but uh they figured out that's the mom that ran out. Um somebody else is assisting the call The police come to their house, but they're like, "We're with an active shooter. Just stay in your house. Do not leave out. We can come handle you when we get rid of when we can contain this active shooter." So So that's where we're at right now situationally. I hope that helps straighten some things out. I didn't even know this is woman ran out the first time I watched this. No. Like he's out there Can you tell them to come down here? Hey. Does he have a gun? He has a gun? >> Yes. Can we go in there? Is he armed with a gun right now? The gun is upstairs. Radio, we're being advised of a firearm upstairs. Doesn't appear to be involved yet. The male just slammed the door in her face. >> gun locked? I have no clue. Where are the kids at? Which bedroom? They're in the home above the garage. He broke my phone. I can't call my kids. Can you go over by our police cars? For a second. What do you got? I want to get the kids. Yeah. Are they his kids, too? No, they're not his kids. Can you go in there and get them? Yes. I got some more on people on this. Five there's a radio. Could we get a couple more units? We've still got two kids inside THE HOME. POLICE DEPARTMENT! POLICE DEPARTMENT! 528 PRIORITY. WE'RE MAKING AN entry to remove the kids at the request of the victim. POLICE DEPARTMENT! COME ON OUT! SHOW ME YOUR [ __ ] hands right now. All right, that's the shooter or he has a gun to shoot. Um, he's going to flash a weapon at them and they got to re-strategize. SHOW ME YOUR HANDS. >> [screaming] >> SHOTS FIRED. SHOTS FIRED. HEY, COME ON. Come on out. Hold on. Hey, that's his room. That's his room. That's his room. He's got It looks like an AK. >> [snorts] >> Get inside. GET INSIDE. GET INSIDE. CHECK YOURSELF. He's shooting out of the house. He's shooting out of the house. Oh my god. >> [sighs] >> Who's got [snorts] the shooter? No. They're shooting. Get down, Kenna. We have our citizen area. Stay inside your home. We do have the situation contained. >> She ran in my garage. The lady across the street that's involved with the one on Morningview? Yes. I shut the door and came in and locked it. Are you able to check your garage and see if she's out there? I hear shots. I can't. I understand. Are you able to ask her if she's still in the garage? No, I'm not able to. Okay, we'll have an officer over there shortly. Radio, just be advised the children are still inside. We don't currently have a phone number for them. We'll be right back. I didn't ask you to go outside. >> He's shooting at my door. He's shooting. Let me tell you what. It's so many people in this neighborhood that had no survival instincts. That was frustrating. I kind of feel like a couple of them was tying up the line because the operator was having to switch between talking to the kid, talking to the mom that called from the safety of the garage she ran into, um talking to another neighbor that wanted them to come help her, but they didn't She didn't need help. It was She wasn't in immediate danger, the other neighbor that called, not this lady that's on the phone cuz she still don't know who's in her garage. Like she hasn't connected the dots, which I totally understand. You all these gunshots and somebody runs in your garage. I get the neighbor that's calling about that. It's It's the other neighbor that kind of got on my nerves, and then the mom pissed me off when I realized it It the mom in the garage. He just shot at a patrol car parked on the east end of Morning View. I need you to stay inside the house. I need you to leave her in the garage. We have an officer that's aware of it. Stay on the phone with me, okay? If you've got everything you can get barricaded in front of the door. >> [snorts] >> I want you to hide, hon. More shots out the front. The children are hiding under the bed in the bedroom. They barricaded the door the best they can, but they cannot go out the window. You can hear him reloading the gun. How close is he to you? Is he on the second floor with you? Okay, you said in the back. Go to the back, there's a window? Is that where the closet area is? During what will become an hours-long standoff just 20 miles from bustling Detroit, multiple dispatchers must coordinate to gather information and plan an escape for the victims trapped inside, all while directing other callers to prevent further disaster. This difficult task is made even more challenging by the unexpected obstacles that lie ahead. 911, why is it taking the police so long? We're on our way to you right now. Who is this? I called you earlier. All right, ma'am. I need you to go ahead and stay in your home and stay down, okay? We're on our way. Tell them to hurry. Ma'am, we are. 911. Okay, so there's gunshots. There are gunshots. I do have to watch you go stay inside your home. 911. The police are already here. I'm across the street. I can't [laughter] get in contact. I don't know what's going on. He has my my baby. The a on the phone with them right now. And I I I do get I'm not going to act like I don't at all get what she did, but I'm just like it's what's going to what's going to make me what has made me mad is what she ends up calling back the 911 operator to say. That's what makes me mad and that's why I'm already mad about this. Ma'am, listen to me. Are you in the garage of somebody else's residence? Yes. They're working that event. You need to stay within that garage. Do not leave. They know that you're there, okay? Are my kids still alive? Your children are still in the home. We have them on 911 currently. >> [laughter] >> What's the name of the male that's shooting? Dejuan, D E J U A N Evans, E V A N S. I need you to stay inside that garage, but I have to let you go right now. We have a lot of things that we have to try and deal with. Okay, but my my kids are still alive, right? I just want to make sure. Yes, we are talking to them on the phone. We still need westbound Morningview blocked. We got civilians still driving through. He's a convicted felon. I want to know why did a convicted felon have access to her home and her children? And dispatch, while you're working on it, we're also going to need northbound Winterset blocked. 911 emergency. He has like a tree I'm going to send out another unit like I can to get them. Okay, well, we're going to do the best we can. Can you hear him yet? No, I can't hear him. Okay. 911. I don't know where the police is. [laughter] Ma'am, are you still calling about the female in your garage? She's Yes. Okay, we understand that they are containing the shooter right now. The female in your garage is fine. I spoke to her. She She presents you no threat. So, please just let her stay in your garage for her safety while they try and get this scene situated. >> By this point, it is likely that officials have called in SWAT. However, it will take some time for them to arrive on scene. They're on the second story. They cannot jump out. She told me they're not [laughter] going to. It's too far up. They won't jump. They're going to be outside to to try to catch them cuz that's what he's worried about. Okay, my officers want to know if there's any way that you can try to even dangle down. Mhm, it's too far. Go out there and look. See if you can just try. They're going to catch you. Okay, I'm going to try. She said she was going to get some help. I think I'm going to go down and see if they can catch me. Hold on. We're going to see if we can maybe get a ladder. I'm not sure if we can, but hold on. They can see you. Are they Are you seeing the officers? Yeah, I can see my mom. I can see them. And there's no way you can try to even for safety, I mean, try to get out of there. You guys can't? Are you guys scared? Okay, I think if you guys can get a ladder, that's what we need. 911 Somebody shut my garage door and I don't know who's in there. Please send an officer to my house. >> Are you able to ask through the garage door if No, I am not. I need an officer at Lock the main door. We This is the neighbor that made me mad for tying up the line. This one right here. They're trying to tell her imminent threat is where the officers are. Just stay in your house. We have officers trying to save some children from a house currently with an active shooter inside of it. I understand you're scared. Keep your doors locked. Active shooter in my garage. She is not armed. She is >> know who if the guy is in there with him. >> not, ma'am. Please listen to me. Your address has been given to the officers. They are aware that she is there and they have the other home contained where the shooter is. They will be to your house as soon as they are able to. I promise. So, I don't get an officer at my front door? They will be there for you as soon as they are able to. They know where she is. Okay, keep your doors and windows locked. She let my garage down. I heard her do it. >> That's fine. HEY! GO BACK! COME OUT! >> [screaming] >> HEY! BLUE SHIRT. SIR, TURN AROUND. Oh my god. We're there. We're there. I know we're there, but we're trying to find safety to get you guys, okay? We can't come up there in case you start shooting. [laughter] When all this goes down, we we get you help. Don't get them out now, but I'm letting you know when I say it's time. I need you to settle them down, okay? I want you to watch. They're going to be getting a ladder to bring over there. Ready, Emmett Susan? Susan will be bringing the ladder, putting it by the house. Hold on. Don't come out yet. Don't come out yet. Stay there, okay? I need to know, do you have a white t-shirt on? Yeah. Okay, come out now. It's through the ladder. Okay, they said come out now. Get on the ladder. >> There's no ladder. He said there's no ladder outside the window. Hold on. We're trying to figure this out, okay? I I don't know what's going on, but we're trying to get the ladder to you. 911, I think there's an active shooter in the area, and a man just came to my door asking me how can he get out of the subdivision? Okay, at this time everybody needs to stay inside of their home. 911, we're in He's talking about the active shooter and and hiding. I I I think he's making contact with [clears throat] my children cuz they're in the under the bed right now. Barricade the door and everything, okay? But I got to go back to him. I know you're talking but the one threatened to harm them. >> [laughter] >> The mom, that's the mom calling 911. Is the one threatening to harm them? The one's holding a whole The officer said either AK or Draco. Is the one threatening to harm your children? Pissing me off. The mom, I'm telling you between that one neighbor that's talking about so y'all not going to send the cops to my house, and this mom, this is how I got mad. >> Ma'am, I know you're talking but the one threatened to harm them. The one is going inside. What if he can kill me and my kids? He's high. What is he on? What's he under the influence of? He's not under anything. He's under stress. Under stress? Yes, ma'am. He has Okay. Do you hear the drone? Okay. Westbound Morningview is still not blocked. If we could get a unit mutual aid to block that. I know about that. There's a weird-looking people in Indian Trail all jeans but he was walking around like he walked past and walked past and walked past and walked past and walked past and walked past Listen, right now it's still a lockdown situation. Stay inside of your I'm inside the house. I understand that. Stay inside your home. Don't open your doors or windows until they lift it. All right, they're trying to figure out how they're going to get the ladder to you, okay? So, I'm going to let you know as soon as I know something. And I just want you to okay? She was calling cuz she was worried So. I got you. And sergeant, if it wasn't relayed, it looked like an AK or Draco. Yeah. How you doing? I'm good. We're going to keep it quiet right now so you're not talking but if you hear anything, let me know. This is 911. Can I talk to you for a second or to a non-emergency line? I'm trying to get in contact with my mother. Who is your mother? I'm hiding in the garage. I need to get in contact with my mother. Ma'am, ma'am, I understand your situation and I understand that your children are still in that house but I can't connect you to your mom on a 911 line. I can't because the lady's number that I need to her phone is locked. If you could just tell the police that what I'm getting ready to do is I'm getting ready to run out of this garage and I'm going to run to another neighbor's home so I can find a phone. So, if they see a purple jacket running, that is me. Listen, I understand that you need to contact your mother but right now is not the time to be running through that neighborhood. We've told everybody to lockdown and not open their doors or windows. Nobody's going to be able to assist you. Do you know if the one is still in the house? You do not know that. Okay, that's fine. Has it been a long time since you heard any noise inside the home? You were You were doing such a good job being extremely brave, okay? Just want you to know that. We have both the children on the phone and he is okay. Okay. Okay. officers lighting the light my house. We have the entire house completely surrounded. They're talking about getting the ladder again, okay? Okay. Was that a knock at your door? Yes. Okay, hold one second. What is that? my door He's trying to kick in the door where the kids are. Hey, can you get out the window? window Get out the window. I lost connection. I can't hear anything. There's like Get out the window. Please get out the window, please. Get out the window if you can hear me. Just get out the window. No, that's dead silence. He's coming out the front. He's got one of the kids. And one kid in one arm, one hand in the air. HEY, STOP! Put Stop right there! Do not move! Do not move! STAY RIGHT THERE! DO NOT MOVE! DO NOT MOVE! Can I help? Uh yeah. Uh if he changes No, no, no, that's the kid. HEY, GO, GO, GO. All right. Did he have both the kids? No, you can disregard that. It was the kids coming out. The kids are out of the house. It was not the suspect. Oh my god. Hello. Just wanted to let you know our police officers [laughter] have your children. They are safe and out of that house. Thank you. I again just want you to remain in the garage where you are at, okay? All right. Yeah. Okay. He shot cars got shot. Okay. Second floor this side. West side. That's the last time I saw him right here. Sounded like That's what his sounded like. I think that was him. Yeah, he did. I think so. Suspect fired again. He hit a patrol car on Middlebelt. I know. >> [laughter] >> We We're We're We're way too close here. We need Be careful there. Yeah, he's invisible like from here where I was at, I could see if he came out the front door, that's it. Dude, yeah, I think he's hit like three patrol cars now. There's no point in you covering this unless he gets up to this car, I can't shoot him anyways. What do you Stop one of those. Stop one of that armor there. Stop that MXP. Stop that MXP. We're going to need Utilize that to get the guys back out of the line of fire. Stop that car right there. I don't know if you were looking at your screen, but he just came out the door shooting again. And then I think the sniper is the one that got him. Stop that MXP. We're going to need Utilize that to get the guys back out of the line of fire. STOP THAT CAR RIGHT WHAT THE FOUR ROUNDS OUT THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE. SNIPER SHOT. Subject down. Yeah. Get that bear over here. WE HAVE TO GET ON IT. BRING IT OVER HERE. We need to get on the bear. Bring it over here. Move the bear over here. They definitely [clears throat] going to need more uh better communication with their SWAT team because they had a They were struggling a lot with this BearCat and stuff. And I've seen other ones that Midwest Safety has shown and they're like in sync with each other. I don't know if he's still moving his feet. He's moving. so we can get OUT OF IT. HE'S GOT A RIFLE down there and he's aiming at us. No longer moving. Subject down. They got him surrounded. Go get THIS GUY. YEAH. SHOT. BRING THE [laughter] BEAR HERE. He's not moving, but he's not dead. I can feel he's moving. I got him on my sight. Make sure your hands are empty and spread. Back your torso out of the doorway. Then we will provide medical treatment for you. They're pushing up. You You You want to take this from me? I got it. And uh I I fired it at the house. How would you fire it? Yeah. All right, hold. No, we can't send him. Hold this. Are you guys okay? You fired it? I don't want him going. I don't want him going. You want something underneath? Come here, Mo. Get in the driveway. Driveway. Pull in the driveway. Get in the rig. All right, you go Get the rifle. Should we You want me to have him leave his key in case that needs to be moved? Yep. What? I get that key from the Lucy. Bruce. Bruce, get his key. Lucy got shot at. I thought right now hold the house for us. Is it a fine door? Yeah, hold the front for now. I'll get somebody in the back for you, too. I'll just clear for you guys. Thank you. We wouldn't have went in if the way the kids weren't in there. So I can check get shot at off the list. Can you tell me where's your scout at? This one. Oh, you guys are doubled up? >> We were in Jump your gun. Take your vest off. We're going to be chill out a little bit. Take a break. Okay? Where do you want me to put the gun? >> Let's put it in one of the scouts. Put it in one of the racks. Just throw them in the back. Sit in the air conditioning. Relax for a minute. You're good. Just glad the kids are got out. I'm glad you guys got out. All right? If it was If it was you and Listen, if it was different people, could have went way different, right? Yeah, I mean I think if if it was you two, After his arrest, 32-year-old De'Wan Patrick Evans was charged with six counts of assault with intent to murder, nine counts of felony firearm second offense, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of felon in possession of a firearm, and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence. He was placed on a $3 million bond. Two weeks later, he entered a plea of not guilty. His case is currently going through the court system. If De'Wan is found guilty on all charges, he faces up to 58 years and 3 months plus six consecutive life sentences. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. >> Imagine being the victims, the officers, or the neighbors in a moment like this where in the blink of an eye your home turns into a battlefield. And in situations like this, fear doesn't knock, it kicks the door in. So, to everyone caught inside that moment, your survival mattered, your courage mattered, and it's difficult for the violence to stay contained. All right. So, the officers that were first on scene loved what they did. The officers that came to back them up on the first round loved what they did. Um 911 operator, she was on it cuz I It was only maybe one time in the beginning that it sounded like a different voice for the 911 operator. Every other time it was the same operator trying to coordinate, trying to calm down, trying to It was a lot on her, too. But, uh yeah, I'm glad the the officers, you know, the I'm glad the kids got out. I have a lot to say about that mom. I'mma keep it in my head. Um So, yeah, I you know, hopefully his sentencing is harsh because why do you have Why do you have the gun? Why you kicking the door in on the kids? What was your intent? What Why are you doing that? Then you're convicted felon with the gun. I have so many questions for the mom about a non-biological dad that's a convicted felon that's in her home and with her kids that should be safe. And And then for her to call back talking about, "I want to go back in there. I just want him to get me instead of my kids." All right. All right. Whatever. So, yeah, this one made me mad but happy in a sense that the kids got out. And the first coordination between the officers was really good. SWAT and the cops were not so good. And it was very smart that um the one in charge kept saying basically if you were involved in the standoff, don't ride with the suspect in the ambulance, which is smart to do. I'm I'm I'm glad they did that, you know, just to keep everything on the up and up and stuff like that. But yeah. All right. That was it. Apparently, Dean, prison is the only thing that will keep her from bringing him back in her home. He stressed. Give me a break. All right. All right, y'all. That That is true, A smooth shot, but that is up to her to look into which type of felon he was cuz yes, there are some white-collar felonies and some other type of non-violent that you know, especially anybody in there for like the three strikes rule or just having marijuana when it was still illegal and stuff like that. But obviously, I don't think that was the case with this person. But yes, they need to do their own background checks, especially when you're bringing people around your kids. Now you're not risking just yourself. I don't know We watch too much stuff in the trials and then, you know, the stuff with these these pedophiles and these just whatever. And then And And it's like, did you not look into their background for the ones that you could you could see the signs? There's some you won't see and it just comes and it's it's very sad. But for the ones that you see the signs, like what are y'all doing? Forever Tiara, so I will say the coordination after was pretty good with figuring out where everyone needs to be. Yes. That's where I noticed that leader being smart about things. Like, okay, if you shot in the house, stay here. Don't go back over there. Don't ride with the suspect. Yes. Yes, that part was good. It was just a little towards the end. Um It worked out, you know, and I'm not even I don't even have nothing to really say about it, but I just noticed they weren't communicating as well, you know. Yes, always do background checks on your dates. I'm telling you. And that goes for the other side, too. Because when we going to look at some of these teachers that are predatory on these kids, some women. It's not always the guy. So, yeah. All right, y'all. I'll let you go. I will see you tomorrow to do exactly this middle one right here. Keep going with this uh pastor murder trial, you broke my heart and all that stuff. But, yeah. I'll see y'all later. All right. Bye.
