Walmart was the scene of another confrontation where officers were called to deal with a suspect accused of taking what wasn't his. God did not get a citation. >> Absolutely not. >> A shoplifting call at a Walmart in Clark County took an unexpected turn on May 13th, 2024 as officers arrived to confront a suspect caught in the act with us. >> Hey, Park County Police Department. Nice party to a crime. >> He's uh he's >> Hey. >> Hey. Good. How are you? Look, >> I might have worked with you and just gave you a ticket if you ain't went to run from me. >> You weren't trying to, but you did. >> Is this your first time stealing from Walmart? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You would have just got a ticket and got barred. That was it. >> No. >> You should have made the decision to not run with me. >> I don't like running. >> I don't know where you thought you were going to go with being him in front of you behind you. >> Well, we know you weren't going nowhere. You didn't make it very far. You got to run from Clark County. You got to be faster than that. >> What county are you from? >> Well, welcome Clark. I got I got >> 85. You can give me a law prevention office. We got him up here. >> Um, you going to see him do her do the barring all that stuff? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Here, buddy. >> I'm going to get with Lane. I think he's primary here. I will. >> Thank you. Uh, there you go. This is his. >> He also has something else. Possibly. >> I'll find. >> Yep. There's no telling what else. He's been >> After the man was detained, officers searched him and uncovered additional items that made the situation far more serious and questionable. >> I'm going grab one. >> Okay. >> Just that thing. Gotcha. >> Which things one you stole? >> This. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Things officers. >> You tried to run. >> I paid for it. >> I don't get I want to know where this is. Is all brand new. It was like >> Okay. >> Hey James, if you want if you want to do a little second little loop around there. Make sure there ain't nothing else. >> Huh? >> If you want to do a second little loop, we'll sit here a minute. >> Yeah. [ __ ] >> What is that? >> Those are full uh blankets that he was on the aisle with. So I don't believe >> Yeah. >> Oh, go a. Yep. You go to court, you tell him it's yours, they'll end up coming back to you. >> Yeah. >> So yeah, I saw him with that. >> Yeah, you can take a second. He's got statements now. So >> please, please, please. A >> little late when you tried to run from us, dude. >> That's the first I'm sorry. I wasn't about please. >> Yeah. So, would the self still be book on citation or would this be included in the warrant? >> No, dude. You're not getting citation. >> Absolutely not. >> I got a dog. >> Look at that. You have character counts. Integrity matters. And you're sitting here stealing and trying to run from us, man. >> That hurts. >> Yeah, that really hurts. >> That hurts, too. Some belt with a badge on it. That stain on PD right there. Think we got us a criminal cuz that's a cent. I'm guessing that's an inner child. Let me >> that thing. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, we should have plenty of history jackers. >> Maybe just to have some, you know, >> you think it's in the pocket? >> No. >> You got >> Hey, wait. Do you have a evidence bag? >> Yeah. >> Another knife. >> This one I I bought a long time ago. >> Okay. I'm sure you did. >> I did. I I bought >> Yeah. Uh, it just looks brand new from the original. >> Oh, I swear I've had that. >> All right. >> I'll just give another one. >> Even he hadn't run any camera. >> A little bit. I need the luxury size. I would have stayed [laughter] >> picture of this for me and you can have this. >> Awesome. >> So, you got your those are the emergency blankets. >> Okay. >> The 20k. That's this probably $4. Yeah. Does it have it on here? >> Sub total is >> is that 78 right there? >> 7267 is what we go by. >> 7267. Okay. Who knows? >> Please, let me just buy those. >> Go ahead. >> Good thing is he doesn't look very fast. >> Sure. Go ahead. >> I'm not. >> He tried to run with me and Cameron like like this close to him. >> Camera about slamming on the ground. Give me a citation. >> Turn that way. >> There's not very good running shoes either. >> No. >> Officer, >> dude, stop asking me please. You're not nothing. >> What is he? >> He just wants a citation. >> No, you're going to jail. >> I guess you try to steal that, too. Huh? >> Dope decision to get done. >> I'm getting >> this which are apparently his, but they just look brand new, you No, I had those. >> You also have a warrant. So >> warrant. >> Uh we have ganet or something. >> Seriously? >> Yeah. Like probation violation. >> Even after all this, the man still showed little willingness to be honest, leaving officers to move forward with the necessary procedures. >> He's saying he's had these, but uh they look brand new. >> So um >> are you stolen? No, I bought them. Well, why would you buy one and then come steal one from me? >> Yeah, they're rusted. They're not mine. >> Okay. Uh what about these? I don't >> just like if you had a time to just in your life decide I want to be honest with people about things that I've done wrong. If this was your one time, >> why don't you just admit to it? You take it. >> This is brand new, too. >> Because I've got the camera. I'm going to review it and it's going to go to the judge. >> The video will go to the judge. All this. So, if these go with you and then the camera shows you leave with these and then the judge sees you left with these but then I got you on camera taking them. What's he going to look at you with? >> So, are these mine? >> No, I I bought those in my pocket. I promise. >> This looks dirty, so I don't think that's okay. >> That might go to that thing. >> Okay, >> that's all the stuff. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you need him for anything else? >> Uh, we got a borrowing. >> Okay. for this property for a period of two years here is no longer allowed at Walmart on the side of town. Uh your picture, you see that one shot up on the the wall right there. See it? All right. So, that picture that I just took will be sent to all Walmarts everywhere. Um your information will be in there along with the video today again and you'll get charged with trespassing. You come here, you'll be charged with trespassing. And that means if I see you standing on the corner over there in front of Golden Sun, I can call the police out. >> If you want to add $150 to that receipt, >> okay, >> what's that called? This chicken. Okay. >> Okay. [laughter] >> What is this? Uh >> site merch is the flyers that he had. I don't know why. >> Okay. Battery pack. Luckily, I didn't have to run very buggy. They just ate. Huh? >> That's That's my people. Can I >> Okay. >> Can you answer? >> No, you cannot answer. >> I don't have the numbers. Just hang on. >> They'll let you get them out. Just ask them. >> All right. Just follow this officer. [music] >> And Lee, feel free to search him again. I'll search him. I should have gotten everything out of his pockets. >> Got you. Got you. >> All right. So, right here. >> Oh, make sure my dog's >> your dog in the truck. >> Nope. No. >> Come to the door for me. There you go. He already touched him, but I was gone. >> Yeah, that's why we didn't fly, right? >> I just got to get in. We didn't flash him. >> I got a uh a belly uh thing with a flashlight in it. >> A belly thing. >> Yeah, right here. >> My dope. >> Oh, no. Cut straw. >> Where's your cupcake? >> No. Where's your car? >> There's a freaking eating dog. >> No, it's not. Where's your car at? >> Uh my buddy's right there with that white truck. >> Okay. that car cuz I'm going to go search for them. >> Okay. Well, you have paraphernalia on. You got to have a car. >> Real quick. I got to get some gloves on. >> Didn't tell me about the straw, man. I ain't trying to get >> Like I said, he was set. >> Okay. >> Probably 27. >> You uh >> Yeah, they said that he had >> he had it look little cut straw straw. >> Uh you do? No, I mean the only thing that I do is I smoke a little marijuana stuff. >> I'm not worried about a little marijuana, man. >> He had a he had a little cut straw on him. Um, so usually that's either or >> I've seen it sometimes smoking. So that's not what I'm concerned about right now. Okay. So >> real quick. >> Uh, no. You go right ahead, man. >> All right, man. Time to clean the clean. Do you have anything that does not need to make it in this jail on you? Guns, drugs, knives, anything like that. But if you make it in there with drugs, you know that's another fell in charge, right? >> All right. Making sure making you clear change. >> No, just some change in the cut straw. >> Okay, that's all. >> Oh, >> yeah. That's why they went to the car. >> Oh, >> when I get to the um >> after placing the man in the patrol car, officers spoke with his friend who was unaware of what had happened at the store and briefed him on the situation. >> So, Mr. Ward, so I'm the officer who arrested him in there. Um then will it fully explain to you what's going on or you want me to explain to you? >> I mean I I know he was coming to Walmart to get No. >> Okay. So what I'll say you from the beginning. So essentially he's going to cuz you're you were his ride, right? Okay. So essentially we get out with him. Um the store caught him stealing. We get out with him. He run he tries to run from us. He's very slow so he doesn't make it very far and I catch him and uh he also has warrants out of Bar County. To be honest with you, he probably only get out for like a week or so at the very least. That's what I was worried about because he, you know, we sort of figured he may have passing once on >> Yeah, he has. So, he's just one. Um, >> having I don't know what exactly it was for. He's got to be shipped back to Bar County before we before he can be cut loose. >> Is there any way you can maybe ask him if he's got a key to his uh his building cuz uh his dog's there and Hey, does he did he have like a key or something to a shed so we can take care of the dogs? >> Hey, boss. He said, "Uh, do you have a key to the shed >> or if that's okay with him to take or >> so you can take care of your dog?" >> I don't It's not locked. >> It's not locked. He said it's not locked. It's not locked. >> Slipped up on, you know, shoplifting. >> Yeah, shoplifting. So, he's going to jail from us for uh misdemeanor shoplifting and obstruction. >> Okay. >> If he hadn't ran, he would have been a ticket. >> But he ran and so now he gets state charges from Clark County in addition to Bear County. Yes, sir. the thing >> because I'm guessing he's on probation too, right? So now they're going to violate his probation and now he's >> now knowing that he's probably going to sit there for a couple weeks. >> He's in a bad spot. I'm in a bad spot and we're like I'm He helped me and I helped him. But the thing is like I was telling him said, "Well, if you want help, you got to be willing to help yourself." >> Yeah. In this situation, he could have helped himself by just not doing that dumb decision and he would have been out of here with a ticket. Now, he's going to sit there minimum two, three weeks knowing that it's probation violation because they're going to violate him for obstruction. That's just a decision that you need to talk to him about that if he wants to be changing his life into the right way, can't be doing this. No. >> Especially not in Clark County. We we every single time he run from us, we're going to charge you. >> So, [laughter] I mean, I know I had I used I run Clark County. >> So, you you know how we operate. >> Yep. I'll catch an Uber back to my cell car. I can pick you up. >> Oh, is that what the officer got the flashlight on? Got you. >> Hey. >> Hello. >> The man was charged with theft by shoplifting, obstruction of an officer, and possession of drugrelated objects. As officers wrapped up the Walmart theft investigation, another case involving a missing wallet and suspicious activity soon came to light. >> The wallet was stolen. So, I can place your car in. A potential fraud call brought police in after a man reported his wallet missing and suspicious transactions appearing on his cards. >> Afternoon >> about your wallet. >> Yeah. >> I'm sorry to hear it. >> So, what's going on? >> I uh I came out here about an hour prior. Came out and got a cigarette. Wallet was in there and uh a neighbor of mine I got into the guy she was seeing. Me and her were kind of talking or whatever and I seen her car pull all the way up over here and then it immediately left and then like 10 minutes later I got a fraud alert message >> and I kept running out to my truck and I seen that my wallet was taken. >> Okay. Is anything else missing from the truck? >> Nope. >> Everything my cigarettes all hat was still in there and I know both of them were smokers. So he he was he was seeing this guy and then stopped and they were doing whatever and then the dude he's like he's been having beef with him because of whatever they had going. >> Cops have been over here before for him. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And then so right after he came in or came out the last time, right? >> Yeah. >> She they had came in and pulled up next to her his truck. But you didn't see him get out of the car. >> No. No. Cuz my apartment's right over here. But I seen the car pull up over here and then I seen it immediately leave. Like I can see my apartment. I can hear people's doors shut. I didn't hear no door shut. >> So I knew they didn't come in. So >> do you know where they usually park? >> Over here. They try to avoid parking by my truck now. >> Is there a sign parking in this or is it just kind of a free-for-all? >> Yeah, it's a black. >> Do you know if they have a garage over here? >> Huh? They ain't got no garage. >> Okay. That's more like >> she's not he's not even on a lease out here. >> Yeah, it's more like visitor parking over here. >> Uh and I understand the windows were down in your truck, so there's no they didn't like uh like break in or damage anything. You haven't noticed any damage to your truck or anything? >> Okay. >> I seen them pull up and then immediately like 10 15 minutes later, I started getting fud alert messages from both of my cars. >> They've been trying to send in a cash app. trying to plug it into a cash app. >> Yeah, it's all been Cash App uh fraud alerts and I know both of them use Cash App. >> Yeah. >> Shortly after, officers confronted the woman and initially questioned her about her whereabouts and activities that day. >> Hey, good evening. I'm Deputy Griff the Sheriff's Office. Just so you guys know, my body cam's rolling. Audio video recording. You guys got your IDs on you. Reason why I'm stopping you. So, we just had some reports of some fraudulent activity with this car in Champagne Orbana. >> So, I'm just here to speak to you guys about it. What? >> I'm just here to speak to you guys about it. You guys got your IDs on you. >> What happened in Champagne? >> Okay. >> Thank you. I'm going to walk over to you. Okay. We're going to step out. We're going to talk on the side and then we'll go from there. Okay. And we're just going to figure out what's going on. I just want to figure out too what's going on. So, you guys pass me. So, I figured I'd stop you cuz they've been looking for you. So, it might be a it might be a case of mistaken identity and every Well, it might be a case of mistaken identity. So, >> what is it? >> Well, I'll talk to M and then I'll chat with you. Okay. And then I'll chat with you. All right. Just stay in your car for me. Okay. Walk around. Okay. >> You just walk up stand with him. >> Hey, I thought you two broke up. >> We kind of did. We're just My mama don't like them. So, my mama does some and uh >> there we are. Hopefully you work it out. >> Yeah, we did, didn't we? Yeah. My parents just don't like him for [ __ ] cuz he's a black man, you know. No one where I where I live at, right? I live at the Metab Apartments. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I parked there. I come in and out all the time. >> Okay. Walk walk me through what happened today. >> I worked today. I got off work. I work 9 to5ish. Got off at like between 5 and 6. >> Okay. Uh got him, went home, changed for clothes. >> Where'd you get him at? uh his job and then uh went home, changed the clothes. I have to get my baby's house floods all the way in. I was about [ __ ] I don't pay attention to the time. Uh changed my clothes. We left around 6:30 some [ __ ] left, came back cuz I forgot to call. >> When you say you left at 6:30, where did you leave? >> Urbana. >> You left You left Orbana at 6:30. >> No, I left my house. >> Okay. >> At 6:30ish. 6 between 6:00 and 7. It was It wasn't 7:00. It was before 7:00 cuz my baby was yelling at me on the phone cuz I was taking too damn long. So, got there and then I'm going to Aldi's, but he forgot his damn phone that has the pay thing. He gets paid whatever. So, we have to get out. I was on his phone. So, >> what does he get paid through? >> Uh, pay. >> Okay. >> It's the Yeah. Whatever his last name is. And then Jeff. >> Okay. So, you were in Urbana after 6:30, correct? Just to get your time. >> I left my house. >> You came from your work, >> went to your house. to pick him up. >> No, got him first. >> Okay. >> Went home. >> Picked him up from his work. Went home. >> Got dressed. >> Okay. >> We left. >> What time did you leave? >> 6:30. 6:40. Something like that. 6:30ish. >> So, you left your house from home and >> at 6:30. >> At 6:30. >> Right. >> And you went back to Champagne to shop. >> We were going to >> Okay. And because he grab his damn phone and I need some of the money which is on his phone and transfer some stuff. >> Okay. >> So, and then came back, got it, now we're here. >> Okay. So, we didn't buy anything in Champagne. >> Mm-m. >> Okay. So, we didn't go back to the apartment to drop anything off. You just went back to pick up his phone? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, we didn't buy any groceries. >> Drugs. >> No, that's not what I said. I said you didn't buy anything in Champagne. >> What? I have a link card. >> Okay. But >> I got that's where we got the juices from. >> So you did buy stuff in Champagne? >> Um now you're thinking about a credit card. I'm thinking some other [ __ ] like No, >> I'm thinking So you didn't buy anything in Champagne? >> Yes. >> So you didn't go back to your apartment, drop anything off. You just went back to the apartment to pick up the phone. >> I'm sorry. Yes, we got a drink. My bad. >> That was just a miscommunication. >> Yes, I got a drink. Yes, I have a link card to prove it. That's what I used. I just got it today. Well, >> all right. >> We got bit. >> What stores did you go visit in Champagne? >> No, just look. Okay. I think >> just Circle K. >> Mhm. >> So, we didn't go buy groceries. Just went to Circle K. >> We were going to, but got to get his phone cuz I need some of his money. So, I can do it. >> Okay. He's telling me you dropped off groceries at your apartment. You didn't drop off any groceries? >> I mean, for my job, but No, >> we're going to go grocery shopping. >> Okay. >> That's probably what he mentioned. We're going grocery shopping. I'm going right now. >> I got you. At your apartment, where do you usually park? >> Anywhere. Everywhere. It's a >> officers pointed out inconsistencies in her story and the evidence surrounding the stolen wallet, while the search that followed only raised more questions. >> Okay. So, >> why grabbed his phone? Let me let me fill you in on the situation. Right. So, there's a beef between him and your neighbor from >> um I'll tell you why. He doesn't he doesn't like him cuz he wants it's not going to happen. >> He he explained that your neighbor's crushing on you. >> Yeah. hard hardcore and he hates him and he wants to go off on him for no reason. >> Right. >> Right. >> So today there was a burglar to a motor vehicle where a wallet was taken out of that neighbor's truck. >> Okay. It hasn't been me. >> Okay. So I interviewed everybody who was there neighbor a few other neighbors as well and they saw your car probably his car for like 2 minutes and it left. wasn't there. >> And you guys are in Champagne driving around Champagne and there's a bunch of fraudulent charges on the cars popping up where your car is. >> He's only blaming us cuz he hates him. >> We didn't do nothing. I didn't do nothing. >> But do you see how everything's kind of coming all together? >> No. >> As like there's fraudulent charges in Champagne on the card, which is where your car is. You guys left the apartment right after the wallet was stolen. So, I can place your car in Champagne and all these businesses based off license plate readers and video. >> It wasn't me. >> We have your car and your license plate driving around to all these places. You see what I'm saying? So, we can say it's a different car all you want, but it's your car. >> But how how would I have his money? >> Okay. What I'm saying is found an opportunity to grab the wallet. That's what I'm saying. It's as easy as that. I told him and I'm telling you all I'm looking to do right now is get his ID back and his wallet back cuz those are hard to replace. >> So if we can fix that and we can give it back to him then as of right now it's not taking anybody to do that. >> What do you want? >> But if I have to go to these places and get the video footage and find you guys doing it, we're going to have bigger problems. Honesty goes a long way here. >> Okay. >> So you guys aren't clear as to where you guys were today. You guys are saying you guys were in different places. >> We went everywhere to gas station. >> Do you see Do you see how like all this stuff isn't making any sense to me? >> All right. Do you mind if we look in your car? Maybe the wallet's not there and we'll be good to go. >> Sure. >> I appreciate that. >> Since you want to freak my daughter out. >> You don't have to freak your daughter out. >> I mean, what do you do need a warrant for that? Cuz there's nothing in my car either. >> It's your option. If you want to let me search your car, I would be grateful for that and that would solve it. No wallet. We're good to go. >> But it's your it's your decision. Go ahead. Okay. >> Do you want to grab your daughter out of the passenger side so she's not >> heard? It's got character. >> So, obviously I didn't find it, right? And I appreciate you allowing me to look, >> right? >> Um just few side notes. Um social security is in a wallet. Stick them somewhere else. Put them in like a file. >> Oh, no. I needed them cuz I was doing for my phone that I do have. >> Okay. Just make sure we move them out of your wallet just in case you lose your wallet. You don't want to lose that. They're very difficult to get replaced. >> Yeah. No, I meant to take them out and I forgot. >> Side note. Completely. Side note. >> Know what my wallet looks like. >> Yeah. Just get those get those uh somewhere else. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, I'm just going to type up what you guys both told me >> and go from there. Okay. I've got some followup to do, so I'll be in touch with y'all. A day later, officers confronted the woman with evidence connecting her to the card's use at a gas station, leading them to take further action. >> Alter, you want to come in here? >> Okay. So, let's brief what's going on. Okay. I've got your paying at the gas station with his card. Okay. So, now you're under arrest, okay, for burglar vehicle. >> What's up, man? >> And for using that credit card, okay, so let's step out and go from there. You have something else you can put on? Can I call my dad to get my daughter? >> What's up, man? >> What's happening to you outside? Okay, >> I'll talk to you. >> Stay here. Stay here. >> So, is that just a bathroom? >> Okay. Um, do you have something real quick that you can throw on? >> We under arrest. >> I talk to you out here. Tell us what's going on, my man. Okay. >> Over here. >> Talk to him out there. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, you got like a a slit or something like that that we can do. >> What's that? Like something you can put on other than a bathroom. I don't like taking jail or bathroom. >> Yeah. Um can I please call her father or my dad first? >> Yeah, >> they live on. >> So before we continue, I got to read something. >> What am I getting the message for? >> Ordered a motor vehicle and using that credit card. Okay. >> Where? >> At the Shell in Champagne. >> I've got you on video paying for the gas. So we're going to turn it all out. You're not going to keep lying to me. Okay. You got your daughter here, >> right? I don't want to make this any messier than it is. >> I think what happened here is just a mistake. >> I think it was, you know, a rash decision that got out of hand. >> So, tell me what really happened. >> About what? >> About today. That credit card that you used to pay for gas to fill your car. >> My gas? >> It's not my card. >> It's not your card. Cut it out. You saw my wallet. >> I know everything already. You paid with the card that you guys got from the wallet in that car. >> I'm not lying to you. I didn't lie to you on the side of the road. I'm not lying to you now. I wish you would do the same for me. I got to think about your daughter here. I don't want you to hang you up on a felony for burglary if it's just a rash decision that we made that we can fix. So, let's start from the beginning. Tell me what happened. >> Was it your ID or his? >> Where's your phone at? >> In my room, I think. >> In your room. Okay. >> Can I please go put some clothes on? >> Where's your clothes at? Where's your clothes at? What are you grabbing? >> In my room. >> What are you grabbing? >> Just pants and a shirt. >> Okay. I got to come with you. >> Okay. And then we're ready. >> You got a change in front of me, too? >> Well, I can't let you out of my sight now, but I'll give you privacy as best I can. Okay. >> You here to pick up the little one? >> Yep. >> Um, Dad, can you go in my room and find the keys? Cuz you won't let me get out the seat. >> Keys for what? >> The car at the house. Just take the keys so you can get in here. >> Where at? >> He looked in the kitchen. He didn't see them. Might be in the bedroom. Am I allowed to have a drink somehow? >> We'll get it all situated at the jail. Okay. >> I just need some water. >> Do you guys have to stay here? I mean, I can stay here and find the keys. >> I mean, that works. >> That's fine. I'll just go. >> You [ __ ] idiot, dude. >> We'll walk out with him, too. He's just going to stay here with Told you. >> He didn't do nothing. The woman was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and fraudulent use of a credit card. The next case shows how a simple shoplifting call can quickly grow into a much bigger problem once officers start looking deeper. In Sukakus, New Jersey, police arrived at a Walmart expecting a simple shoplifting call. But the man they found in the parking lot was about to turn a minor theft into a much bigger problem. I'll leave it there. Leave it. I'll leave it. >> All right. Well, there's stuff by the back of the vehicle over there. So, I know you're lying about whatever you're saying right now. >> What is that stuff over there that you left by the back of the vehicle? I see it all on camera, dude. So, lie to me. You're going to get arrested right now. >> All right. We're going to steal some [ __ ] You left something in the store. >> Put it by the back of that vehicle. Right. >> That's where we're at right now. I already know the story. You don't even have to give me any information. >> That's where we're at. Don't put your hands in your pockets. So, your hands right there. >> Is that his car? >> Is that your vehicle over there? The gray SUV. >> Huh? >> Is that your car over there? The gray Whose car is that? >> I don't know. >> Okay. So, why are you putting all the stuff that you took by the back passenger wheel? >> I see it on camera, dude. >> It is what it is. You're already you're you're caught in that aspect. All right. Why is it over there if that's not your car? Why are you hiding it over there? >> Can you just go see what it is over there? All right. Do you have ID on you? >> You don't have ID on you? You sure about that? You don't have a wallet on you? So, if I ask for your information, you're going to give me your actual real information. >> If you don't, you're going to get arrested. You understand me? You're going to give me your actual information. Correct? I'm giving you one warning here. One chance. If you lie to me, you're going to get arrested. It's a simple. Take your hands out of your pocket. It's cold out here, but it's cold for everybody, not just for you. >> You hear that? One try. Just give me the correct information. >> What's your first name? >> I'm giving you one chance. This is a [ __ ] shoplifting for $25. So, if you're not lying about your information, all I'm going to do is do a report. If you're lying about your information, you're going to get arrested. You understand that? >> Yeah, I'm not lying. >> Okay. Do you know your social? >> No, sir. >> All right. >> You don't have a wallet on you? >> I have an ID on you. >> Nothing. Nothing you need. Listen. Listen. Just going to search you right now. See, listen. You admitted to the shopping chat thing. All right. That's the situation right now. Do you have a wallet on you? We just So we get >> No, listen up. >> We're going to search you anyway. So if you have it, you might as well just tell us. >> What What was it? >> Yeah. All right. So >> that's a part of it. >> Just Just one second. Just be the tape right now. All right. One second. Just keep cooperating with us. We'll cooperate with you. All right. As officers searched him, they recovered more stolen items and noticed something that immediately raised their suspicions. What is it? What' you say it was? A needle. >> Now, do you have the um Where's the wallet? What's this? >> Nothing going to stick me in this pocket. Right. Your left pocket is a needle. >> What's in that pocket? You think >> What's in that pocket? Is there anything going to stick me to this pocket? >> You said there's a needle in that pocket. Is it capped? >> Yeah. >> Does this open up? >> I I got to go. Hold on. Just going to try to do it from the outside. >> Yeah. Make sure it's capped before my hand in it. >> I don't know where it is. I'll just right there. Get out of your way. >> Eugene, just so you know, we all have body cameras on. Okay. They record audio and video calling one. You say you let us know that. >> All right. Just you're going to stand right over there for now. Just lean up against the V. Okay. Turn around. Oh, you got you. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. No, you're good. You're good. What's in here? >> There's uh any residue in there. >> What's this? Rubber band. What's up? That's the tissue. >> Good. >> All right. Put your back up against the car. After the search, one of the officers began verifying whether the personal information the man provided was actually accurate. >> From this point on, you got the right to remain silent. Okay. >> All right. >> Anything understand that if you want to stop talking with us at any point, you can stop. Want to have a lawyer present to question you, you can have that. All right. This point, we're not going to ask you any more questions. out anything. Try to figure out if that's really you. Check if you got any warrants. If you have any warrants, we'll deal with them. If you don't, figure out how much the total is on that stuff and we'll go from there, right? How do you say that? >> How do you find? >> Like I said, we weren't we weren't concerned though. Obviously, you can't be shoplifting, but that's not our concern right now. At the end of the day, they could come in and sign charges at a later date for that. My concern is you telling me who you are. If you're lying to me, you're going to get arrested. If you're not lying to me, >> I don't lie to you. >> That's what I'm saying. If you're not lying to me and it turns out that you are who you say you are and they find that information and you're not wanted for anything, you're going to go home today. All right. >> You got a bag? >> Uh, yeah. >> You guys good for a second? Um, no, that's all. >> Please make sure you >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, do you want I told them to get all the information ready as soon as they said that he was out here. That way when we're done, we can just go get it from him. Do you want to have another unit just grab it and get the video or >> I mean, >> we'll see what what happens with him. Yeah. And then if not, I'll do it myself. >> Oh, yeah. With >> this say uh this say what? >> They didn't say what it was. They didn't know what uh part of it was, but they saw it on camera and I saw it, too. They uh >> Oh, I won't find out. They know, right? >> Yeah. >> You told me you was going to find out that you was going to do that. >> Yeah. Unless you're lying to me. If you're lying to me about your I don't know that until they find your information, Eugene. You're telling me you're >> We're going to figure it out. >> I have another bag. I'll wait till you want to. Yeah. >> You got them. >> Meanwhile, the other officers worked to determine whether all the recovered items had come from the same store. items inside. >> Is his property also in there? >> No. >> Um, the only thing is I don't know. I'm assuming those earrings don't belong to him. >> Yeah. >> Um, these rings out. >> The rings. >> The earrings are yours. >> All right. I'm going to bring them in. If they don't see you through it on camera, then we'll get them back to you. All right. 39 clear. >> So if we can't find information on you and like I said, I have a feeling you're lying about your information. I'm going to bring you to the station. We're going to fingerprint you to find out who you are. And then if it comes back that you're lying, you're going to get charged with it. I'm lying. I'm telling you the truth. No, >> I'm And I'm telling you the truth. I'm telling you the route that we're going to go. >> All right. >> You You do your job. You know >> that's what I'm doing here, bud. >> You told me. You told me something and I give you that information. >> And I told you if I can't find you, I got to do my job. And guess what? I'm going to do my job. That's the way that works. >> I'm not going to take your word for it that you're you're telling the truth. You look, but we're going to bring you back and we're going to fingerprint you and then once I've confirmed that you're lying, you're going to get charged with it. So, that's just the way it's going to go. You're trying to You're trying to bother me like >> bother you? >> Yeah, because >> you shoplifted. You're the reason I'm here. I wouldn't be here if you didn't decide to steal from the store. >> It's not even $100. >> It doesn't matter what it is. You're still shoplifted. That was your fault. That was your mistake, not mine. >> And then you decide to lie to us. So that's your fault. >> I lied to you. >> That's your fault again. >> Why I lied to you for? >> That's what I'm asking you. Why are you lying? >> I don't lie to you. They can't We're very good at our job. Trust me. If they can't find it, that means you're lying. >> Okay. You want to try to get with information? You want to try again with information, dude? I give you information. Oh, genius. >> Okay. What's your last name? >> Eugene. >> What's your last name? >> Ao. Ailo? >> Yes. How do you spell it? >> A V I L O. >> You didn't say there was an L last time. I asked you. >> A V I L O. >> And I asked you when I spelled it the first time, are there any L's in your name? And you said no. It's all on camera, so don't [ __ ] me. Don't act like I didn't ask you. >> You heard it right then. >> Okay, that's cuz you were lying. Thank you. How many L's are there in your name? >> One L. >> One L. Try his last name. Alpha Victor India Lima. All right, we can bring him this one. All right, Eugene, as it stand, you are going to be placed under arrest, okay? For the shoplifting, the possible hindering, which is the lying about your name, and for the drug paraphernalia, the uh residue in the little jar that you have. Okay. All right. We're going to get in there. Come on. Regardless, you have a double. >> Yeah, I do. Yeah. So, just so you're aware, I know my sergeant already read you your rights. I'm going to read. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you can't afford one, one will be appointed to you. Do you understand your rights? Eugene, I just need a verbal yes or no. Eugene, you're gonna now you're going to not answer me. All right, I'll take that as a yes. You understand your rights? Got it. Need another bag. The man was charged with shoplifting, hindering apprehension for providing false information to police, and possession of drug paraphernalia, while also having two outstanding warrants from Fairfield and Wayne, New Jersey. Stealing from a store is one thing, but the next suspect was accused of stealing from the very place that trusted him enough to give him a job. >> If there was more, you're more than welcome. >> This Target employee thought he could get away with stealing from the very store where he worked. But once the thefts were uncovered, deputies showed up and the situation quickly became much more serious. >> It's me. >> Good. How are you? >> Yeah. I'm sorry. >> But first, uh, [laughter] >> I want to go with >> I just assumed >> um, >> um, so like you want to walk in behind us and then >> Oh. Yeah. Do you mind if I just leave my laptop in here? Um and then I'll grab it when you go in. So >> I get everything. >> He's in literally in the room next door. >> Um you all have video. >> Yes, I've got the pictures. >> Pictures, videos, um statement. >> Beautiful. >> This is where we're at. >> Uh Jakari. So based on the investigation um that John has completed um [music] here in the store, effective immediately, you'll be terminated from Target. Um, I am going to need your equipment, your name badge, um, and anything else that you may have today. >> Uh, yeah. >> Or walkie. >> No, I don't. >> Um, so they are pursu pursuing charges, right? So I am going to place you under arrest. Okay. Um, Okay. If you're going to do that, can you do it as I'm outside and not in here? >> So, no. I'm going to have you be in here. Um, we're going to do all the paperwork here and then I'm going to take you to my car. Okay. As are you guys trespassing him from here or what's >> It won't be a trespass, but obviously you're probably in the best interest to not come back here, but we're not going to formally trespass you if that makes sense. As long as you don't cause any issues. >> Okay. Um, do you want to talk? because you don't have to talk to me and I can it's up to you. Like if you want to talk to me then I will um what we'll do is we'll do a tape statement. I'm not going to cuff you or anything. We'll do a tape statement. We'll go over everything and then if you want to tell me if there was more, you're more than welcome. If you want to keep that to yourself, you're also more than welcome. Um it's your rights. But basically, if you are willing to talk, I read your Miranda rates and then we do a tape statement. >> So, do you want to talk? >> All right. Um, >> all right. I'm just going to put you in cops for right now and I'll take off the cops when we do the tape statement. Is there a better room that we can go to the AP office? The the office, you know, the one that's supposed last time. You want to go there? >> Okay. Uh yeah, that's better. Yeah. So, if he admits to it through Miranda and everything, then we'll go with the grand. If he doesn't, I'm just going to MCA him and get him out of here. Um >> he definitely want obviously goes without saying the grand theft if possible. Um that's why I had like a whole hour. >> Oh, yeah. I know. Um >> I just wanted cuz he he remembers. I think he's willing to obviously repeat it cuz he wrote it down at admission. Like he wrote it down and signed it. So, I think it's just >> Oh, you have it? >> Yeah. >> Could you Did you give me a receipt of that? >> What's that? >> Or not a receipt of it. Do you have a um copy of it that you can give to me? >> Yeah. So, it's basically everything. >> He wrote that down. That's his stuff. >> Can you make a copy of that? And then I'm going to see if he um cuz he didn't it wasn't in my presence. So, he did this. So, >> you know, >> he he is under the impression, all the video and everything facts are 100% the way we have the two earbuds. So, he willingly admitted to the iPad and the Nintendo Switch. >> That's where it's just like, okay, for at this point. The only video, like I said, we have >> Yeah, that's fine. So, yeah, if he um if he admits to it, then I'll put him with grandpa and we'll go that route. But, yeah. So, >> he should I he's been very willing to talk. over. >> He's he's cool. >> Yeah. >> Um >> he just >> and I've been cool with him. >> After speaking with store staff, officers questioned the suspect who appeared remorseful and cooperated without trying to make excuses. >> So, there has been some evidence that you've taken some Apple products from Target. How long have you been working at Target? For >> 2 years. >> Two years. >> Okay. So, what exactly did you take? >> AirPods. >> iPad. >> Okay. Do you remember the dates of times by any chance? >> Um, not necessarily. No. >> No. Okay. So, I'm going to read the evidence that we have towards you. And then, did you also take honey buns? >> Yes. >> Yes. And then little bites. >> Yes. >> So, little bites, honey buns, two things of aquatics. Correct. >> Mhm. >> One iPad. >> Mhm. >> And then a Note 10 just switch. >> Mhm. >> Correct. Okay. And then you don't remember any of the days that you took them? >> Based off. So based off the evidence, those are Okay. But you are admitting to them. Do you have them? >> I have. >> Okay. Did you sell them at all to anyone else? >> I didn't sell. I gave away. >> Okay. So, you gave them away? >> Yeah. >> Okay. No time. You You never gave to anyone. You never or you gave to somebody but you never sold. >> Like you don't know what I ever paid you. >> Okay. Is there anything else that you would like to admit to? >> You bought it all. >> That's everything that you sold? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> How much battery you got? >> 83. >> 83. >> You need to call mom. Hello. >> Uh, I'm being arrested right now. >> Huh? >> I'm being arrested. >> Why? >> Um, I've done a few things that, you know, pop the full rundown cuz I called them first. But >> wait, wait. What a few things you did, J. >> Uh, theft. >> Huh? >> Theft. >> Why don't you do some dumb [ __ ] like that? How you did that? >> Tell her at work. I was at work. You was at work? >> Yes. >> You steal it from work? >> Yes. >> What did you steal, J? >> Uh, there was two AirPods, Nintendo Switch, too. And >> you going to sell them? >> I don't know. No, I didn't sell any of that. I just gave it away. >> Why would you do that? You work those jobs. So, they say, "Where you at?" >> Uh, the eyeset protection room and uh pops already just came here already. So, uh, We're recording. >> While the suspect explained the situation to his mother over the phone, officers stepped in and clarified what had happened and what would happen next. >> I'm going to have officer talk to you. >> Hey, Mom. >> So, you missing out your life? >> Hey, Mom. >> Yes. >> Hey, it's Officer Pool. Uh, I just gave him a courtesy call. We Dad was just here and he took he took possession of the car. Um, yeah. I guess he stole some earpods, a iPad, and a Nintendo Switch. But, um, >> can he give those stuff back? >> No, I don't have that stuff. >> And he doesn't have it anymore. So, it's no longer in his possession. >> Okay. Who did he give it to? >> Uh, they were like friends and stuff like that. >> I guess his friends. I don't know what friends get that type of stuff out. >> Yeah, man. What the See, this is >> Yeah, he's right here. >> Why would you do something stupid like that, man? Come on. You can get those things. You work hard. You got two jobs. Why would you do that? And then your friends influence you to do this. >> I apologize, Mom. >> Like, come on, J man. Don't be like the rest of them. Who's better than that, man? Come on, man. I'm disappointed in you. or >> it's not nothing much you can do >> at all. I have to >> they going to take me down to the county. I have to sit in there until they give me a bond or whatever. >> So, the arraignment would probably be in the morning cuz it's already late and judges are typically off at this time. >> I can't hardly I can't hardly hear you. So, I'm sorry. >> You're fine. Um the arraignment his court would probably be in the morning because it's already so late in the afternoon and the judges already went home. So probably uh once he goes I believe it's like 7 7:30 in the morning he'll go to see a judge and they'll tell him what his bond is and then you guys need to get a bail's bondsman and bail him out. Uh, we don't know. The the judge said that >> from now on with your dad. I have to call him with. >> All right, Mom. >> We're going to have to hang up now. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay, stepping out. All right, guys. >> Bye, guys. Have a good day. >> Let's go. >> Oh, they're here already. >> Oh, dude. >> Yeah, that's why >> we're going to change my cup. >> We're not taking them up. Go. >> Yeah. The way >> this way. Wait, where are you guys? Never mind. This way. >> To inside out new socks and all that. Yeah, that I haven't done. >> I've never kn they go through this whole process. >> Yeah, you know, people like to hide stuff from us, >> so we have to make sure. >> Do I have to sit up back? >> I don't know. Okay, >> put the arrow on for you. The man was charged with grand theft. To wrap things up, here is another case where a woman in a pink dress can be seen on the pavement while three officers work to restrain her. She appears distressed and is shouting as the officers secure her arms and legs. She argued with a nurse, but she completely lost control when police were called. Whatever happened there clearly led to a serious confrontation. What do you think caused the situation to escalate so quickly? And that wraps up today's video. Thanks for spending some time with us.
