the video i have for today is going to
be another incident with the police
and their response to a person who needs
to get into
treatment for mental health purposes the
reason this run
is a little bit different than some of
the ones that you might have seen before
is because this is one of those runs
that i think
a lot of people in the public would say
you know we should be sending social
workers to handle this kind of call the
problem with that
is that the run the way it's called in
is not the type of run
that anyone other than a police officer
would ever respond to
so what you have is a 9-1-1 call that
describes a
potentially very volatile and dangerous
situation
that 100 percent requires the police to
respond
then when the police get there they
realize this is not a violent situation
this is just a person who needs to get
into see a mental health provider
so i thought that was an interesting
example to show people
the other side of this is that i want
you to pay attention to how the officers
react
and interact with this guy and then
compare that to
the way the people at the mental health
facility
interact with them and
the reason i want to bring up this
contrast
is because there's this loud cry
in the public saying that police
officers don't know how to do
what in my opinion they're doing day in
and day out
and that's de-escalate situations
and talk to people who are in crisis and
prevent violence from occurring
um and dealing with people who are
mentally ill
you know there's this loud outpour
saying that uh police are not prepared
to do this that they're not trained to
do this if they don't know how to do
this
so i want to show you how police
officers
talk to this guy and then you can see
how
these mental health professionals talk
to them and then you can make the
decision
on whether or not i think the police
officers did a good job
and you can even compare and if you feel
like it you can mention in the comments
which person you think did a better
job with all that being said i'm i'll
apologize this is a little bit longer
intro than normal
and this video is a little bit longer
than normal but i wanted to leave in
even a lot of the dead space because i
wanted to show you exactly what goes on
