Viewer discretion is advised. [music] Bad [music] boys. What you going to do? What you going to do? >> Cops is filmed on location with the men and [music] women of law enforcement. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. My sole job as an accident investigator is I investigate serious and fatality car crashes that happen anywhere in the city. Yes, it can be gory sometimes, but I really like being able to put the puzzle together of what happened in car crashes and uh putting bad people behind bars. So, tonight we're running a DUI checkpoint operation in South Kansas City. And my uh main purpose is to uh stop vehicles that uh elude the checkpoint or refuse to go through the checkpoint. >> There's a silver I believe it's a Chevy. >> All right now we've got a silver car that's slowing down on the road and it's turning into a residence here. We're going to contact him and see what's going on with this guy. Oh, hold on. Oh, we're going to All right. Yeah. All right. So, this car just decided to turn around on the checkpoint. Um my uh sergeants just advised us to let him keep going. So, we're gonna have to stop pursuing this guy. I mean, he's obviously not driving safe, not willing to stop. So, uh, by our policy, we're not going to be able to pursue this guy. Well, he just wrecked out. >> Yeah, he's running. There's a black male running uh westbound down the on-ramp. >> I don't know nothing about nothing, man. bleeding all that I don't know nothing about nothing bleeding man you just knock my bleed like a mother I don't know nothing about nothing man >> tell me what happened just kicked me in the face everywhere [snorts] just kicked me in the face I don't know nothing about nothing >> you got ID on you ID on >> Is that your car up there >> that ain't my car up Hey, >> did he did they leave a checkpoint? Is that >> Yeah, the car turned around on the checkpoint. >> Cuz they flew past, man. And then because the wet surface, we knew they weren't going to negotiate the turn >> and they just slid right into that pole. >> Car started smoking. Next thing you know, >> I wasn't in the car. >> Took off running. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> I was in the car. >> Did you see both of these guys get out of the car? >> Yeah. Okay. >> I was not the driver. >> Yeah. I think we have a third guy with a white t-shirt. But >> I was not the driver. I was not in the car. >> When you turned around in that checkpoint and you started going the other way, you drove right past me and I looked at you and you looked at me. >> You look at me cuz I was in nobody's car. >> Nobody's car, man. >> Oh, go ahead. >> You got two guns. >> You got two. So, this is a car that eluded the checkpoint, uh, wrecked into the concrete here, and then they took off running. We've got an ignition interlock device, which means this person's a prior offender for driving while intoxicated. And we've got a couple of weapons in the vehicle as well. 9 mm Beretta, fully loaded with a magazine. It's found in the passenger side floorboard here. And we've got a Kel-Tech uh 5.56 semi-automatic almost like a rifle of sorts, but it's been chopped down. This is a a very deadly gun. >> We've got a empty bottle of 1,800. Well, it's got a little bit of beverage in there still. 1,800 tequila. >> The second set of numbers also responded. >> I'm getting some information back from our dispatcher. So, our driver, he's got a warrant out of our city for malicious destruction of property. One of the guns we found in the car has spotted back stolen out of Grand View. We'll go ahead and recover them both. And >> let's talk to the passenger. Uh, what's going on? What What are you guys doing? >> I don't know what the hell's going on. >> I was at Max's bar. Terry had been there early. >> Terry had to leave and he says, "I'll be back to pick you up." I said, "Okay." >> Well, I'm calling, dude. I I'm almost out of money, man. Where you at? I want to go home. I'm around the corner. So he come and pick me up at Max's. I get in the car. Didn't think nothing about anything. Now I'm get in the car and I can smell alcohol. You know, I knew I've been drinking. He start down Blue Ridge cuz I live in Ray Town. He's taking me to my house. >> Okay. >> And then next thing I know, we're in the yard. What the going on? >> Gotcha. >> You know, and next thing I know, we're here. I'm like, "Dude, dude, what the you know, what the hell's going on?" He starts walking down. Dude, where's the cops? >> You want an ambulance to come up here and check you out? >> No, I'm just tripping over these guns. >> I'm in a car with guns. >> Is one of them yours? >> No, I don't care. No, I was No. >> No. No. I don't. No. >> We're going to find out. Okay. >> Fine. Here. You want my friends? Do whatever you want to do. >> Here's the deal, Bill. I'm going to have to have you put your hands behind your back. All right. >> You got a felony uh warrant for your arrest. >> For what? >> Uh drugs. No, I ain't got no warrants. >> Well, you do. >> What am I going to jail for? I didn't do anything. >> I got stolen property. I got my stolen property. What are you talking about? >> I wasn't driving. >> We got an officer that put you behind the wheelchair. It's between you and the detective at this point. >> Did you know there was guns in that car? >> I ain't no guns, no guns. >> I was not drinking and drive. >> Okay. I would not drive. >> All right, step up. Have a seat on the right side towards the rear. Watch your head as you step in. >> He's going to be charged with felony eluding, the DUI, possession of stolen property, the stolen gun. So, he'll be on a 24-hour felony hold. >> I've been part of a specialized unit here with the city of Atlanta called Apex. Our main mission is to uh find and arrest violent repeat offenders. Um we work well together. It's been a great team to be a part of. Saw this vehicle coming out of a really high drug area. Uh we witnessed them make two moving violations. So right now we're trying to catch up to the uh vehicle, inform the driver of the stop, and speak with the passengers. >> Kane is a >> [snorts] >> How y'all doing? Good. >> How are you? >> Reason why I pulled you over. Saw y'all earlier and you made a uh a ride on to uh north from north side. You got to come to a complete stop there. I just want to stop you and let you know about that infraction there. >> Okay. >> You got your license on you? >> Uh I actually I don't have my wallet on me, but um the license is valid. >> It is valid? Yes, sir. >> Okay. What I'm going to have you do, I'm just going to have you step out, give me your information information, all that good stuff. Okay. >> About a week. >> How you like it so far? >> Uh, so far I like it. >> I got it for you. >> Just step back right here real quick. I'm going to have him come around. Write your info down. Make sure your license is good and all that kind of stuff. >> Your license is good. You got one? You just don't have it on you? >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. >> I wouldn't waste your time. >> Where y'all headed? >> Um, we actually just came to pick them up. Um, their car had broken down and uh, so they called us for a ride. >> Yeah. the other rides, too. >> Okay. All right. This is what's going to happen. Um, just because the area y'all were in, we always have a K9 come out. Just do a quick open air sweep. >> That's fine. That's fine. >> So, if there's anything in there he's going to learn on, let me know now so we can we can work with you. Be lenient. You're in control of the car. So, >> just just remember that. >> Ma'am, you mind stepping out real quick? Talk to me real quick. So, what what do you got going on tonight? What's going on? >> Uh, we were hanging out with our friend Jake and we went and got to McDonald's. They live down in this area. moved and uh he and I were with them and their car wouldn't start and it was like kind of a sketchy. >> So this this gentleman here came picked all up. >> Taylor came up. >> Okay. So there's nothing illegal in the car. >> Nobody has anything on them. >> I just met these two. I've known Taylor for a little while >> and that's it. You know, >> I'm going to send her up. Send me Taylor back. >> All right. Just real quick, I wanted to finish up with you. Um K9's here. She's going to do a sweep of everything. Okay. Okay. So, if there's anything in there I need to know about, let me know now. Nothing in there. All right. Hang tight with him real quick. >> Well, this was sitting right under this. >> Okay. >> Right here. >> She definitely alerted. >> Oh, yeah. >> Okay. >> I want to grab that. >> Yeah. I'll set it up on She won't alert on the needle unless there's some sort of residue on it. There's residue in there. >> Was that purse up front? No, that piece of needle caps in there. There it is. What do we got? Looks like uh some heroin residue. We've got needle caps. Um more residue down in the bag here. Honestly, I think they just sprinkled it out. It was right on this on the right side on the floorboard. So, there's just residue over there. They probably opened it, sprinkled it out. >> Well, you weren't completely honest with me here. >> We found syringes. >> Well, look, >> I know you're nervous. >> The people that we picked up >> Mhm. >> they they they were in the neighborhood. So, that would be my guess. >> The other male, >> the other couple. >> Other couple. >> Yes, that's who we picked up. >> Okay. All right. Hang tight. >> All right. >> Come here, ma'am. Just step right over here. I don't know if officer Kane explained to you, we found baggies with residue, syringes, all that good stuff right where y'all were sitting. >> Yeah, I think that um it's like the guy and the girls. >> Do you think it's theirs? >> Well, why do you think it's theirs? >> Uh they had us pick them up and freaking ghetto. >> Okay. >> And like he they were like freaking out and you guys were pulling us over and we're like we're going to jail. >> Mhm. Okay. So, who do you think has it? I don't know them or where did you see her put it somewhere? >> Have a seat for me, >> ma'am. >> All right. So, here's the deal. >> We know that you have it on you. >> So, what we're going Oh, listen to me. Okay. >> So, what we're going to do now is either I can have a female officer come out here and in private you can give it to her >> or you can retrieve it yourself. It's your decision. Thank you. >> I appreciate you finally making the right decision and letting us go on about our business. >> The couple that I met handed me [ __ ] >> Okay. >> This is very embarrassing. >> Well, I would rather do this >> Yeah. >> than go through the hassle of the other other way and having somebody else retrieve it for you, you know? >> Yeah. It's in tin foil, so I'm guessing it's cocaine, >> but it could be heroin. >> The small little baggies are going to be your heroin residue. We're going to test it. >> Explain to me what happened in the car when we started to pull y'all over. >> Uh, everything was hidden. Everybody, you know, that had anything handed me what they had. >> And you did what with it? >> I put it in your pants. >> Put it in your pants. Okay. All right. Bad decision. >> Very bad decision. >> Okay. Sometimes you need to separate yourself from them. Okay. So you don't get >> We didn't say anything. >> So you don't get in trouble thing, you know. >> No, nobody told us anything else. Um you're going to be uh arrested for the possession of heroin. Okay. >> All right. Uh you guys obviously know what's going on. She's going to take the wrap, but you guys are all down here as a team. There's two straws, enough heroin for more than one person. She's gonna do this tonight and you guys are going to go home free. Josh Rayban. Don't forget those. >> You weren't in the back. >> Yeah, I put in the side. I got another transport. >> Okay. >> Like I said, this is life lesson. You said you've never been locked up for this before. Sometimes you need to just separate yourself from certain people so it doesn't happen again. Okay. >> Here in Rston County, just as it is in any community in any state, you're going to have a subsection of people who just don't like cops. But the truth of the matter is everybody's human and everybody needs us at some point and at that point they realize uh the sheriff's department here in Rston County is best place for them to go to to get that help. I got a black BMW reserve make a hand transaction about a mile back potential drug deal. 919 stopping all window. I'll be out later with >> Hello. You run him real quick for me. Take off your seat belt and step out here and talk to me real quick. >> Like, I'm already aggravated. It's too hot. >> I understand. Just step back here and talk to me real quick. Just step on to the back to the back of the car. All right. Back, back, back. I don't want you on the road here. I don't know whether you're on the phone or what? >> On the phone with the bank people, the other people. >> Yeah. And then you're like going left. You're you're like in the in the center lane. You kept swerving. >> So, if you got to give me a ticket, give me a ticket for that so I can go handle my business. >> Okay. Ma'am. Ma'am, stay back here. He seems to be and and you will you two seem to be a little bit flustered. Just let us just let me do it. I got to do it. >> Okay. >> It's too hot for this. >> Don't you think I'm hot? Is there anything illegal inside that car? >> Of course not. >> There's nothing inside there. No. >> Okay. Do you have a problem with me looking? >> I don't want nobody searching my car. No. >> Okay. Ma'am, don't make it any worse than it needs to be. >> Thank you. >> I hope he he I hope he had a seat though cuz that's going to be a loss. >> The dog just indicated positively inside the vehicle directed towards uh the passenger seat. I'd really like you be honest with me. Do you have anything illegal on you? And when I say when I say on you, I don't mean in your pocket, sir. I'm talking about on your person. Period. >> I don't have anything on me, sir. >> You don't have anything? Okay. I have probable cause if I have to do what I need to do and I don't want to do it because of that dog.
