tonight on crime fighters kids give police the runaround our job to do without your window now there's no way [Music] we try Mike [Music] on the manor estate in Sheffield's pcs Andy Miller and Nicola Norris of just up to 14 year old riding a scooter illegally you didn't just buy it now did you know you didn't you've just set up a suit night you're riding it on the pavement but it's not started still riding it aren't you technically still clusters riding it what I'm doing with it you only but quick yeah Wow it's broken all because you know in trouble this time what if you don't get stopped on it again it'll get taken off you only one morning one morning and that's it it goes what you need to do is know he's got my dick was nearly shortened I am licensed they were thrown yeah yeah yeah it's classed as motorbike it's got an engine on it really shop shouldn't sell them to kids and kids know what they do because all their bike making some money [Music] the Manor estate as a history of anti-social behavior with nooses kids causing most of the trouble for the eleven thousand people who live here low-level crime blights their everyday life proof eating vandalism and fat and the Mickey work on the Safer Neighbourhood team which aims to target these crimes and improve life on the estate this afternoon they're looking for two boys reported to be riding motorbikes on Pitt with fields they're not allowed to chase them as that can provoke them to ride faster and cause accidents but the fields make perfect getaway routes and the kids Andy Andy here as you can see there's no point in trying to run after them which we just not going to catch where does that lead out on to the helicopter out because we've so if we can just keep an eye on them with Kim we can try and get the helicopter off in there there's another one over there Andy you could just see the two heads going beyond the books yeah until we stop it we can't tell them that there's a good chance of some people feel that no registration plate once on the field there's that many escapes on to their states through generals and up once all the fields that unless we get the helicopter out every time we don't stand a chance of catching them and under the outpour guidelines are not allowed to chase them anyway so once they've gone we can follow him as far as we can but we're not allowed to chase him for sure so invariably get way the bikes are a problem for everyone living on the estate and noisy they're dangerous but for elderly residents like Valerie Reynolds they can feel particularly threatening buycks that way around is it the kids from around here who use noisy we don't know where the cooler Monday so you don't recognize any yet kids were done recently no I did one a were all black but you couldn't see his face what time was up about 5:15 cuz I went out and Bolton do you know what they do the wait while you finish go around and then they come round [ __ ] nuisance opere were all old-age pensioners but can do without all this what's the latest the bikes have been riding around till when recently they've not been very have been here and there they've not been all night if you know what I mean we're still going when you go to bed no stop doing that like talking to residents police find out who's causing trouble but people can be reluctant to report anti-social behavior for fear of reprisal Andy has worked on the Manor for two years and has built up good relationships with people his knowledge also helps prevent kids turning to crime in the first place it's not just case for us going out and mocking people or maybe sending to prison it's about re-educating the people who live on the estate what fine is that you can spot who was going to be the next up-and-coming car terminals because big brother Dakar criminal or dad's a car from an oven I tend to pass down the generations that that's one of the benefits we've got work with all the time he said week next try and get to know some of the people and try and steer away from following what is sort of normal fear and get them away from the peer pressure to it to get in crime in recent years the area has undergone a makeover post-war housing has been replaced by new flats and houses but as the demolition continues the abandoned homes make attractive hideouts for kids the police and council are working hard to stamp out these trouble spots as a problem as people move out houses the house becomes subjective burglaries arsons the main pattern seems to me that scrap has come in take out all the copper pipe in the boilers even the copper wiring from the walls next lock come in and take all the tiles off the rules once everything's taken a lot of the young kids from the state move on they start using it somewhere it's hideout somewhere it's hanging around out the weather eventually fires get started and the latest craze has been set on fire the fire service has been undated with with course two arsons not an easy but for the area but it's also dangerous for the kids who are coming to setting the fires back on patrol ambien Mickey spot a damaged car and stopped to investigate it's typical of the kind of problems on this date yeah Roger we've just knocked on a couple of doors here nobody seems to know who's the vehicle is that can you just put a marker on there PNC and two of the tires are down and the back window to the vehicle it's been completely smashed so it's a it's basically insecure at the moment back windows smashed in it we noticed it no we've checked out and the police computer and it comes back to an area quite away from here nobody seems to know who's the vehicle is and we've gotten a registered keeper either the groups of yous that hang around probably become aware that the vehicles been abandoned here and probably yet damaged it because they know it doesn't belong to anybody even after dark there are plenty of kids still out on the estate as Andy and Nicky drive round they spot the two lads they saw earlier riding motorbikes across the fields that's them say the two that we chased there's no way [Music] another lease for two people right if I turn up min 7 1 7 1 Givens here the other night you've been warned about riding you were warned about this the other night my sergeants just approached us you said that you were warned the other night no I'd have out of school all right the night of school so the kids took it from my nan owns all the way on and it's gonna get bike bought so you've been taught about riding bikes on specific bike the fact that you've been warned about riding a bike are we short for my bike 7 short for I've been told last time if you were riding bikes on the pavement on the roads on the fields it doesn't matter what bike is you still be warned Delta threes all right seven yeah Roger it will just stay recovered a motorbike at the shops it Wulfric Road is there any chance you could call out also recovery please it's gonna pick it up why it's got no lights on I doubt it's in short living on the roads I doubt it's got a license as it's focusing we said all I've been doing is riding on the fields as such we've seized it on the police Reform Act 2002 it'll go down to the recovery depo and tomorrow I'll be able to attend its 205-pound fee for recovery and twelve pound storage for tonight the owner of the bike never turned up to present his documents so the vehicle was destroyed still to come on crime fighters bonfire night on the manor goes up in smoke hey hey stop stop stop stop stop [Music] it's the night before bonfire night on the Manor Estate in Sheffield and there are even more kids out than usual the police are expecting trouble in an area known for anti-social behavior PC Andy Miller and Nicola Norris stopped to talk to a large group gathered on the streets after see someone threw a firework they give chase police weren't after the boy as he could have caused some serious harm and it's the sort of behavior they're determined to stamp out [Music] we've chased him into one of the backyards here on the other side of the road but he's he's jumped over the fence and he's managed to where Aaron is unfortunately and there on this occasion we'll do some inquiries and see if we can find out who it is and try and get him arrested basically police have got special powers to deal with the offenders that they catch tonight we have a section 13 power tonight which means that if we do believe the group's going to be involved on social behavior we can disperse them if they're not from the area we can send them back to the area that come from and exclude them 24 hours down here the stoned as they get back in the van Andy and Nikki hear a man making threatening comments to them about guns stop there a second what we showing that is when we drove up when we were getting into the van no you were near tell us what you said I'm 27 27 the kind of music I listen to no that's why you something who are you anyway oh wow this thing to do without you when Nicky checks the guy out she finds he's been in trouble before for carrying a weapon taking any chances they decide to search him leads this is mana no weapons were found and so the man is sent on his way as they continue patrolling the estate and the in Nicky spot a man using his mobile phone whilst driving [Music] don't say wait just a second we'll give you a producer come on the corner we've seen him he's used his mobile phone it wasn't actually talking on it but he's obviously either texting or flicking through his phone book so we've stopped him sports about that and issued an I endorse morphix penalty especially a thirty pound fine he has the option to either pay or challenge it and go to court he's got his driving license with him but he's got no insurance documents or a mortise to forget with him so Nikki's issuing him a producer which is basically a form to say let me take your insurance certificate animal to down to a police station within seven days how many phones have you got why is that for your girlfriend and one for your wife things could be about to get worse for the man when Nikki thinks she smells alcohol on his breath we've been drinking have you done this before it's a big deep breath yeah keep going keep going keep going that's it that red light at the moment means that we're just waiting for it to in to analyze the breath that's gone into the machine usually takes just a couple of seconds no you find me [Music] it's been a relatively peaceful night on the estate but then Andy and Nicky get a call to a block of flats got a call by five Gabe fire fire that there is typical of a sort of instant mix mix all this weekend Abel starting fires in gardens endemic premises just because when they get there they learn that there are actually two derelict flats alight hi some properties about one down that said that there might be some more spots on this stop stop stop stop now it may not be you okay however it looks like somebody may have set alight for these houses okay so we're just going to do a quick search of all of you all right take you details and do a quick search okay over the last two years there's been an arson on the estate every other week and police know from experience that kids are often to blame so they searched the group for any evidence the police I know I've got no what you got anything sharp in your pockets shut up anything sharp anything that I might soften have you got anything with this topic physical for us automatically don't right to life and just as responsible they don't find anything so they let the kids go what do you think they might go for the green that's how big the fires are put out and thankfully no one was hurt but for people living nearby it's a night of disrupted sleep and aggravation it's still night after night we're having to put up with all this mess fires I mean we have been working with Sheffield ohms and yeah soon as you can the posters are getting these down well there's still a couple of residences that's it as soon as they've gone I know what to do to pronounce that's completely yeah yeah he's going to pay this this 90% of these are people up here all the 10% to spoil in it yeah well no published this still actually living on e at 10% that's causing all problem well neighbor nuisances again if we can get statements we work with a counselor at state you take action against them again later on tonight okay thank you [Music] [Music]
