the video i have for today well the
video i have for today is going to be a
little bit different
some of you may have realized that the
channel hit
50 000 subscribers the other day so
sit back relax i've queued up some
highlights for you
if you don't mind i'm gonna rant for a
minute
50 000 subscribers is a number that i
have a
hard time wrapping my head around
i uploaded my first video on july 2nd
2020 and honestly
i thought i had an aggressive goal of
hitting 20
000 subscribers in the first year
the fact that we've hit 50 000
subscribers in seven or eight months
is absolutely incredible i'm very proud
of
what we've created i'm very thankful
that so many people have watched the
content that i create
and that they've wanted to subscribe and
there's a lot of people
who hit the bell and they get
notifications every time a video goes
live
i love when i when a video goes live
i'll wait a couple minutes and i pop
open the app and i see it it's already
got
40 or 50 people watching that is a
very cool thing for someone like me to
experience
and i wanted to say thank you
i feel like i should also apologize a
little bit
initially i had this idea
that once the channel hit 50 000
subscribers
i was going to do something special
maybe a giveaway
i'm working on a project to make that
happen
the problem is the channel hit 50 000
subscribers way
faster than i ever thought it would so
that little giveaway is gonna have to
wait
the funny thing about that is that
giveaway is probably going to turn into
the
100 000 subscriber giveaway
which means i have a lot of work to do
to get ready for that
and most likely i'm going to have some
kind of
comment contest where i'm going to be
personally sending
an item that i've created to 100
individuals and i'm very excited
that i'll be able to do that at some
point in the future
i was trying to think about how
how i could make a video that was
somewhat special to celebrate 50 000
subscribers
and i decided what i was gonna do is i
was just gonna talk to you all
give you a little bit of what's going on
in my head
why i created the channel and what my
plans are going forward
so as i mentioned before i uploaded my
first video
on july 2nd 2020
if you've been paying attention at all
you'll know that the summer of 2020 was
a very difficult year for the police
i was rather discouraged by a lot of
things that i was seeing in the public
and seeing in the media
regarding the incidents that were
happening at that time
specifically i was upset
i was upset that these riots were
being mislabeled as peaceful protests
i was seeing and i was hearing officers
getting hit with rocks and
bottles of frozen water
i at one point i drove towards downtown
in the early morning and i could see
smoke
rising above the city from a building
that had been lit on fire
by people who were labeled as peaceful
protesters
that made me very angry and i wanted to
show what was really going on
so that is when i started making
requests to the
public records division and
i started uploading videos once i got
rolling i decided i was going to make
this more of a long-term
thing and i knew that i couldn't just
make videos about riots forever because
the riots weren't going to last forever
the other thing that i noticed even
though i i only had maybe
500 to a thousand subscribers at that
time
was that interest was already beginning
to wane
on that type of content even
the local police officers were getting
tired of watching
videos of officers getting hit with
rocks and bottles and
being smacked with pieces of plywood
that had foil taped to them
at that point i stepped back for a
moment and i was thinking about all the
things that are said about our police
officers
everybody's has already heard these
things
people are saying that police are racist
and that they target people
because of the color of their skin
people are saying that officers are
unable and unequipped and under trained
to deal with
people who have mental illness and
there's this kind of overall
statement that's often made basically
just saying that officers are this like
gang of people who
get excited about roughing people up
these are all things that i know not to
be true
and i wanted to make this channel
just about showing the truth without
staging
events and showing what these officers
are going through on a daily basis
that's why when you watch the videos
there's some of the content that i
choose that i really don't think is
gonna get
well i'll change that i think it's
excellent content i think it shows
excellent interactions
but i also know that when i upload this
video especially now that i've got a
little bit of experience with it
i know certain videos just aren't going
to get a lot of views people don't get
excited about
certain things but i think it's
important
to show these things not just once not
just twice but to show them
over and over and over again the reason
for that
because whenever there's a negative
instance
that gets played on the national news it
gets
replayed over and over and over again
and that was just
one encounter
so i thought if one encounter
that is a negative encounter is gonna
get played thousands upon thousands of
times
i'm gonna show thousands upon thousands
of encounters
that aren't negative so that's what the
channel is really about
so here's the thing that i want to ask
of you
if you've been watching the channel
since the beginning i know
many of you have or if you've just found
the channel a couple weeks ago couple
days ago or
today's the first time that you're
seeing the channel
if you agree with me that the columbus
division of police
has a collection of
exceptional officers with exceptional
training
who are doing a very difficult job
exceptionally well do me a favor
and share that information with the
people you know
tell them about the channel tell them
about the videos
and the encounters that you've seen
and let them see for themselves because
at the end of the day
this isn't about me and it's not even
about the officers
the reason this channel exists is
because of
is because of the people that the
officers serve
there's people who need help they need
help from these officers
and the best way to do that is to make
sure that the officers are supported
by the rest of the public and the public
that votes
tell your friends about the channel and
share the videos
and help the channel get to that next
level where
the average person in columbus when they
step into the voting booth
and they see an issue that has to deal
with the police or a politician
who's making statements about the police
help the channel get to the point where
those citizens
have seen the videos have seen how their
police officers
really are and help them make an
educated decision
about what to do with that being said
