Take this [ __ ] off of me. Take this [ __ ] I'm 7 [ __ ] years old. Do not take it. Take it. Take it. Take it. Take it. What is wrong with you? I don't think you are. I'll find him. I'm going to find him. Just spit on me. Be careful walking out your front door because either you or your wife or your children. I'm going to pick them all up. Shut up. On March 6th, 2022, officers were called to the Funky Pelican restaurant in reference to a heavily intoxicated elderly couple acting belligerent. Yes. An employee from the restaurant was quote watching them outside until police arrived. The following footage demonstrates just how quickly a senseless person can ruin their own life. Well, what's left of it? Hi. Hi. What's the problem? I just want to find my man. You want to find your man? Yeah. Or your band? my man. Okay. Well, we'll find him for you. We're not driving. We just want to go. We'll get over and we'll go home. Okay. Like I don't want I don't want no Wow. This video great editing, good follow-up. Cop Cam Nation is where we found it. And uh might be the first time, probably won't be the last. He's a skinny little thing. Okay. Is that him right over there? There we go. Hold on to something. He has a green and white shirt again. Okay. Where do you live at? Locally. Do you live locally? Come kids. Do you live locally? Okay. Okay. No big deal. Why are we doing this? Why? She's doing this. Why are we doing this now? Yeah. Why are we doing this? Cuz there's a state law says once I make contact with you and you're intoxicated to a point where you can't care for yourself, I'm responsible for you. So, all I need to do is make sure you get home, you have somebody take care of you. We have a certain requirement to take care of the public. a community caretaking um doctrine that we follow that kind of requires us to make sure that if someone can't fend for themselves or take care of themselves that we are responsible for them. It's just a it's a side effect of law enforcement. If you're just John Q citizen, you can walk by someone drunk, see them, keep on going. You're not held to that standard that we are. Um when we see that, like in this case, we have to take action. Um, and obviously taking action sometimes to help someone, um, they don't see it that way and then, you know, it the situation escalates. But we have to do it. We got to take care of them. So, how they respond to us trying to take care of them, that's a them problem. Why don't you wait right here? I think I see him over there. I'll have him come over here. Bam. Pam, don't I'm not I'm not walking you. Okay. He does have leg talk. And apparently you are. He doesn't like. She say he doesn't like cops. I hear him. I saw him. I don't know. I don't know where he went. All right. Eugene, do you have identification on you? Stephen. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am, I'm talking to you. Okay. I see truck. Okay. I need to see your ID, please. You don't need to see my ID. Why are you guys seeing my ID? Excuse me. Um, so I was getting them in a taxi and they ran away. Okay. Um, I'm not sure. Why are you What the [ __ ] is going on? I'm from Maryland. How long were they with you? Um, maybe she was with me an hour. She had one glass of wine. Oh, wow. Yeah. So, I didn't know anything was up until Oh, look. Okay. Nice one way. Yeah. Where are you? Hey. Hey. You're going the wrong way. Hey, what the [ __ ] What is going on? All right, we got her. Okay, she crying. Why? Where's the hat? He was standing right here and when he saw me talking to her, he just walked away. He doesn't He doesn't look Okay, it's up the [ __ ] you talking, boss. I don't care what you do right now. We're a little busy. That's true. They told us we were getting towed, so we can't even Where is he? Where is he? That's up to them if they don't want to tow it. Oh, all right. Ma'am. Ma'am, what? Here. Where's Where is he? I'm I'mma find him over here. Come over here, ma'am. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Over here. Wow. If you don't listen to me, you're going to be detained and you're going to make this worse on yourself. I'm serious. What? You walk away. Damn. And here we go. Not often do you put someone that's actively collecting social security into handcuffs. Just doesn't happen a whole lot. Typically by that time in your life, you figured out like I could probably live life and not have too much contact with law enforcement. But it does happen. Um just within the last couple years I arrested a a elderly lady um like mid70s to 80 for DUI. Um she had gotten lost. Um got her Prius stuck in a big mud pole hole outside of Santan Valley. And um so I processed her for DUI because she was um it happens. It doesn't happen very often, but obviously um in Florida, we all know Florida, they'll take care of business. Jo, are you what? Wait, what? What? Are you kidding me? Yeah, cuz you don't listen. That's why. For your safety, you don't get to say no. You need to stop. Are you kidding me? You put me in handcuffs. I didn't do anything. Yeah. Okay. You need that. Martha, put me in handcuffs and I didn't do anything. I forgot. Have a seat. When I pulled up there, he was right here and he saw me and he started walking that way. No, he's got a light green. Probably not true. Okay, thin guy. She said that's their truck right there. I do. I don't know how intoxicated he was. He obviously was sober enough to realize I was police and walk away. So, listen to me. Are you going to listen? I can't believe you did this to me. No, you did this to yourself. No. Yeah, you did. I told you like three times to not walk away from me and listen to me. And what did you do? I like that guy. Could you please fertility? 70. I'm a 70y old woman and I almost almost look like you're acting like a seven-year-old child. You want to clean out the back? You have your ID. Where's it at? Get the [ __ ] out of my phone. Get the [ __ ] out of my phone. I never gave your permission. I don't need your permission. Never. You don't need Get the [ __ ] out. Take this [ __ ] off of me. Take this [ __ ] off of me. Take this [ __ ] off of me. Take I'm 7 [ __ ] years old. Yeah, I know you're going to end up being Wow. I don't think there's a not an age restriction on cuffs. They'll pretty much fit on anyone. Which side you want to go? This one. I don't think he was that concentrated. This one here. You got anything in your pocket? Do you realize who I was? No, you don't have a seat. I'll walk around. Take this stuff off my arms. Go have a seat. Take this stuff off my arms. If you don't have a seat, I'm going to We're going to put you in the car ourselves. Take this stuff off my arms. You wouldn't have I'm not If you would have listened to me. Get in the car. Don't push me. Don't push me. Then get in. Sit in the car. Slide in. Slide in. You're being detained right now. Okay. You keep refusing. You're going to go to jail. For what? Cuz you kept walking away from Sergeant Yelington. Yep. You have to sit in here right now. Then now you cry. I don't want to. You have to or we're going to pull you in. Take me to jail. No. In stark opposition to popular opinion, cops are not looking to take every single person to jail. Um, in a lot of jurisdictions, including mine, it's a it's a drain on resources. Um, we really try to sight and release people as much as we can. Um, and it was obvious that this officer, I mean, he even told her, "Look, I don't want to take you to jail. I don't want to take you to jail." But her actions just almost forced his hand. You just need to sit in here right now. We can't keep track of you when you're walking around. Take this hand. Take them off. Take them off. Step up. Step up. Here. Step up. Step up. Oh, no. You're hurting me. You're hurting me. Stop. You're hurting me. What do you literally not doing anything? Step up. No. Stop. Stop. Stop. Take these things out my face. The sooner you get in, the sooner they might come off. Okay. You just need to sit down in the vehicle. I can't. I can't do. I I have faith you can get in this vehicle. Do it. Sure you can. Put yourself up. No. We're walking. Take these things off of me. Take them off. Take them all in. Slide in. Get in the car. I can I can help you. I can't. There we go. Look how easy that is. Push your butt back. Super easy. Slide your legs in. Where are you taking? Slide your legs in. Where are you taking me? Where are you taking me? Well, you're not going anywhere, but you're about to go to jail if you don't if you stop doing what I tell you to do. Slide your legs in. Why are you Why are you doing this to me? Why are you doing this to me? You should be at home baking cookies or like an apple pie or something. Just There we go. There's Steven. Hey, what happened? Nothing. It's too much to drink. Yeah. I'm We're trying to get a You Okay. Who's at home? What? Who's at home? Nobody. Nobody's at home. Let's go over here. Is this your wife? That's my girlfriend. Let's go over here where she's at. All right. I like this. Beside the Funky Fountain. What a great name. All right. I like the fact What's her name? Elsie. Elsie. Does she get uh belligerent when she gets too drunk? Maybe with me or not. Okay, let's go over here. They said she only had one glass of wine at Funky Pelican. Okay, we'll cut right through here. We're uh we're going to get a fuel open. Look, even motorcycles there are terrible. You said they were down to Daytona, then they came up. I don't have to give a [ __ ] I'm got you, brother. I know my rights. Yeah, you do. Know my rights. Stephen here says, um, you Oh, it's I'm just a I'm just guy sitting on a bench. Well, yes, but the police were called there because of your actions in causing a disturbance at the Funky Pelican. So, just the fact that you've caused a disturbance and now you're sitting quietly on a bench doesn't eliminate what happened before that caused a disturbance that had the cops call there. So, this is still a criminal investigation for what in Arizona we call disorderly conduct. Um, because he caused a disturbance that caused the police to come. So, he's already he has already committed a crime simply by the fact that law enforcement was called. Um, this this investigation could have gone a whole different way if Steven would have been less drunk or just more cooperative. Um, you know, she could have been released to him and they both could have been released, but you know, he makes all these these bad decisions both with his mouth and with his person um that then for forced law enforcement's hand into uh dealing with this a little bit more aggressively. Take this knife off. Do not for take it. Take it. Take it. Take it. What is wrong with you, bro? Come on, man. I'm not doing enough. There we go. Now, we're going to do this. It's not illegal to carry a knife. I have a pocketk knife on me right now, this very second. But if I'm having contact with law enforcement and I am super hammered drunk and a law enforcement officer says, "Hey, I'm I'm going to take that knife off you." The last thing I'm going to do is try to stop him from doing that. I'd be like, "Man, do it. You know, whatever. Wherever you want me to put my hands, do the macarina, whatever. Whatever it is, take it off. No problem. This old man, in his drunken wisdom, tries to stop this law enforcement officer from disarming him while this officer is conducting a investigation for a criminal offense. He kind of forced the officer's hand to put hands on Steven to prevent him from having access to that knife because a knife is a deadly weapon and if Steven and his drunken craziness were to take that knife out, he's now escalated this into a deadly force scenario. Um, so the officer did a really good job in preventing Steven from getting to that threshold by, you know, immediately controlling him. Um, you know, don't don't make bad decisions that force terrible outcomes. And that's where this was headed. Kudos to the officer cuz he went hands-on fast and uh stopped Steven from making a mistake. What? Come on. She ran just like her. She did the same thing. Why are you doing this to me? I did nothing wrong. You came up to me. I Come on, fellas. Really? Now, you did that. Come on, fell over here. Come here. What? Come here. Come on. Go passenger side. So, next time police officer tells you they're going to take a knife off your person and you reach for it, you're going to get dropped on your head. Understand? You got any other? That's a big boy. No more than you might reach for. No, my bad. Yeah, my bad. Now it's my bad. Yeah, probably. I get it. I'm not trying to start no joke. I'm just Huh? What about your girl, man? I tell her to walk away. Stop walking away from me three times and she walks away from me. Then I try to stop her. She grabs my arm, starts pulling away from me and Sergeant. I'm sorry. What's wrong with you? I was trying to go get a Uber. Yeah, that's all. Yeah, I don't I think that L that ship might sound. That's what I was trying to do. So I'm sorry. In my eyes, stop talking for a second. Yeah. In my eyes, I need to take both of you to jail. Oh, please. Yeah, go ahead. I'll get you home. We'll take you for resisting. We'll take Actually, we can take both of you for disorderly talks and disorderly. I'll get you home. I promise. Here we go. I don't think so. Yeah, I'll give them. So, let you get in the car with your wife. Y'all sit there and talk and then we're going to come over here on this side. Come on, bros. Work with us. Work with us. Yeah. You ain't going to get out there. Yeah, I'm getting out. Step off. That ain't going to happen. No, you're not. I see. I'm going to take her home. There we go. I told we were just waiting for way over. She's so pleasant. Okay, slide your leg. He got me in I had I got a new debit card. All right. Congratulations. All right, buddy. He got me in handcuffs. New debit card. Yeah, he's in handcuffs, too. There we go. [Music] I don't think you are. Oh, fine. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. That's another We didn't do anything. We didn't do anything. Don't run your property in the back. Well, it's not exactly true. Don't touch my [ __ ] We didn't do didn't do anything. Piece of [ __ ] He's doing his job. He's doing his job. I'm going to find you. It's all right. Find you. It's all right. I'll find you. Shut up. Holy [ __ ] man. I was sitting on a bench. [ __ ] Piece of [ __ ] I hope you're [ __ ] proud of your day. We're just trying to get an Uber and go home. That's all. That's all we wanted to do is get an Uber and go home. That's why we were waiting English. They called the police. It's not a lot of change in there. You got so much change from. Look, he's getting ready to do a load of laundry. Now you're digging through my pockets. I'm going to find spit on me. [Music] I'm going to find you. No, I didn't spit on you. You absolutely did. No, you went and I fell down. Steen, I'll spit on you. [ __ ] it. I do appreciate the fast forward. What's your last name? Sylvester. I'm going to find you. I'll find him. That guy's kind of big. I don't know if you want to be looking for him. All right. So, here's what's going on. Okay. You're going to jail. I'm going to jail. Yeah. Resisting without violence and disorderly in talks. Love it. Resisting without violence, disorderly intox and battery out a law enforcement officer with bodily fluid. Love it. Yes. All right. Now we're talking. I'm going to find you. A lot of threats there. I'm going to jail. Dude, I'm going to jail. I'll still record. Yes, Martha. You're going to jail. You're [ __ ] Stop. No, I will not. Stop. Stop. Body cam shows at all. Me doing nothing and you being an [ __ ] Watch out when you walk out your front door. Big fight. I don't even know. Shut up. I'm going to get a gun. I'm going to kill you. Shut up. He's not mean to [ __ ] He's doing his job. It's all on video, [ __ ] If you ain't got no kids, it's all on video there, Steve. All you're going down, careful when you walk out your front door every day. Give me the charge. I'll pay for the charge. Be careful walking out your front door because either you or your wife or your children are going to pick them all up. Shut up. He's just running in his mouth. No. No. No. Don't forget Steve's going to drive up in his mobility scooter. He deserves the respect. Yeah. No, he deserves it. I'm telling you. We didn't do anything. Watch out. Every time you walk out your front door, I'm going to have Oh my god. I'm going to have I'm going to have Shut up. You're a punk. I'm 70 years old. And I'm going to have this on my record. He took my personal property and he grabbed me. Be careful when you're sleeping because I'll have him bust on you. [ __ ] it. He's got poor judgment and he's gonna die. I know people will do. Put you in an ant. What's going to happen? You have any family? What's going to happen? Do you have any family? What's going to happen to me? family. He's just doing it. What are you do? I don't know. Can you get me out of here? $10,000. This video shows only a small fraction of threats and vulgarities that Steven Calabro shouted at Officer Sylvester that day. This pair appears to be a match made in heaven given their inability to handle alcohol at 100 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. Steven racked up four charges, including disorderly intoxication, resisting an officer, battery, and threatening an officer with serious bodily harm. Love it. His bond was revoked by the judge as he awaited trial. Yes, this law enforcement officer has good law on the books in the state of Florida that allows him to address the threats that Steven's making. Um, I'll let one or two threats go, you know, hey, I'll, you know, if I wasn't in these cuffs, I'd kick your butt. Okay, cool. You know, I'll fight you right now. Okay, those are all threats. Um, but like people are going to say stuff like that. But when you go down the road of doubling down and saying, "Hey, I'm gonna kill your wife. I'm gonna kill your kids. I'm g shoot you when you walk out your front door. I'm gonna hire someone to kill you." Those are a little bit more, you take those at least a little bit more seriously. Um, and I love that the state of Florida has a law on the books that allows Stephen not only to be arrested and booked on that, but he was held. Um, which I I really I like. I appreciate the judge taking that matter seriously of Steven running his drunken mouth. Um, we have the same thing. Threatening and intimidating is a law here on on the books here in Arizona. Um, we don't use it a whole lot for for law enforcement. We use it more on the civilian side um as as a crime that one civilian would commit against another. Um, but is it on the books? Yes. I I feel like Arizona's might be written written in a way that doesn't allow it to be used as much as it does in Florida cuz I love that. 23 days after the incident, Steven was able to post bail in the amount of $6,000. He pled no contest to all four charges. He was sentenced to 24 months of probation, an anger management course, and one day of time served in county jail. Elsie Mayans was charged with both disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence. She posted bond on the same day as the incident for $1,000. She signed on to a deferred prosecution agreement with various conditions such as completion of a substance abuse evaluation and recommended treatment, writing a letter of apology to Sergeant Yelington, abstaining from illegal drugs and alcohol, and random drug testing. She successfully completed the program in December 2022. Nice. We truly hope Elsie has gotten the treatment she needs for her alcohol abuse. And Stephen, well, we couldn't really care less about him after he showed his true self for the nation to see. Do you think Steven's sentence was harsh enough, or do you think he deserve more jail time after threatening the officer's life? Be sure to leave your opinion in the comments.
