Just so you know, Kate had a baby, and there was a dad. In April of 2024. All right, internet, we're listening to you. We recently did a predator video, and everyone on the internet loved it. So, we're going to do another one. EWU Body Cam is the channel that we found is at. It's a great channel. Uh not one that we use a lot, but I think we're going to be using it more cuz we just really like their stuff. And um this one's looking like it's going to be a good one. A community is left horrified and outraged when a woman with profound intellectual disabilities is discovered pregnant at her care home in Geneva, Illinois. >> Wow. >> Kane County detectives launched an urgent investigation confronted with the grim task of unmasking a predator hidden among the very staff entrusted to protect her. >> Wow. >> is based on official police records, and some of the following footage has never been seen before. According to their website, the Marklund Center is a non-profit organization providing care for adults with severe developmental disabilities. Multiple news sources state that Kate, a 43-year-old resident with Rett syndrome, who was unable to speak, stand, or use her hands was discovered pregnant during routine medical tests. Investigators with the Kane County Sheriff's Department compiled a list of all male employees who had access to her in late summer 2023, interviewing each one, and collecting DNA samples. Hello. Hey. Kane County Sheriff's Department. >> Yes. >> Hi, I'm Brett. This is Brandon. We're both Come on in. Thank you. Like the fast forward. Um So, I know there was abuse and neglect, and I know one of our residents was sent to the hospital that morning, so I am assuming something happened with that resident. Um and I also do know it was only males that have been suspended. Well, >> So, you have the required [clears throat] equipment. You okay? Say good bless. >> that um very serious happened. And you're just so you you're not in any trouble. >> No, I it's Yeah, that's serious. I really enjoy my job and the fact that Sorry. No, it's okay. The thought of that happening is very troubling >> and upsetting. Take time. And and like I said, nobody has accused you of anything. >> No, I I am I am 100 % aware it's Sorry. No, you're okay. >> crying for myself. I'm I'm upset for the residents. It's okay. Have you ever noticed like anybody else acting strange around them or anybody that shouldn't be in there in their rooms? >> No, um I mean, we are very I mean, we don't open the door for everyone. And as for staff, I mean, before this incident, I never thought anyone would do something like that. That That was kind of one of our other questions. Is there anybody you would think would be capable of of >> I would have never have thought this would happen at Markhaven. >> Well, it shouldn't. Before they move on to question other employees, he leaves them one urgent request. Catch the bastard. After speaking with several more employees, investigators are left with no clear leads. However, they do learn that prior to the COVID pandemic, only female staff typically cared for female residents, a policy one employee said changed due to staffing shortages. >> Investigators move on, next meeting with former employee, 22-year-old Isaiah Fields. Hello, Isaiah. Spring cleaning season is here, and most people forget the most important place to start is your pantry. With most chips having 40 ingredients like seed oils and artificial flavors and mystery chemicals, Masa Chips contain just three: organic next symbolize corn, sea salt, 100% grass-fed beef tallow. That's it. Just real food the way it used to be. These chips don't just avoid all the bad stuff, but they taste incredible, too. That's the reason that Sprouts Farmers Market and Wegmans picked them up nationwide. This is the real deal. With Masa, you feel satisfied and energetic with no crash or bloat. You're not going to find yourself uncontrollably binging and still feeling hungry afterwards. Personally, my favorite flavor is these habanero chips. They're the best nacho chip you'll ever eat. You ready to give Masa a try? Go to masachips.com/frank and use code Frank for 25% off your first order or simply click the link in the video description or you can scan the QR code to claim this delicious offer. Good. You want to go in or just talk out here? Whatever you want. Someone stole his sleeves. >> you're out there fighting in Chicago. >> was fighting in the Golden Gloves tournament. >> How'd it go? Pretty good. I I lost by decision in the finals, but um I was there like I had him chicken like him, so Okay. I'll see him again, you know. All right, good. Good for you, man. It's driving me nuts being an amateur. Yeah. It's awesome. After briefly meeting Isaiah's mother, they head to the basement to speak in private. So, there there was you know, an incident that happened there um involving one of the residents. If you can just tell me kind of what what When you worked there, what's the dates that you worked there? Um like early August to like Yeah, but definitely sometime in September. Okay, early September, late December September you think? >> I honestly don't remember. It was still warm outside, so Okay. Maybe early to mid-September. When you were working there, what were your job duties? I was with the um PSP. PSP. Okay, I've heard that talking to people they've said that before. The personal support. Okay. But um It appears as if this entire investigation is stemming from the fact that our victim became pregnant because it doesn't sound like she's very very audible. So there was no disclosure. It just happened to come up in a medical screening that she was pregnant. Um so it's possible this could have gone absolutely unreported if she hadn't had that pregnancy occur. Um that's that's frightening that that this could have happened with absolutely no justice being served um and this this woman having been victimized without uh any you know, having any resolution. So uh definitely a definitely a a scary situation for for everyone involved there. >> I was mainly a training entire time I was there, so I technically didn't have any like duties I had to do really on my own. Okay. So everything I did was shadowed by another person. Okay, so you're always with somebody for the most part? Like 90% of the time, unless I'm on my What were you doing that 10%? Okay. Like one of the managers that were help that were I was shadowing had to go That makes sense. Gotcha. Gotcha. Do you ever have any problems with anybody? Did you ever see anybody that you thought was a little off? Like did you like another especially a male employee? You know, anybody that you thought like something this guy's made some statements or he said something or just way his interaction was with the residents? Um not that I know of personally, honestly. Okay. I didn't stay there long enough to get like to like, you know, chummy with anybody? with everybody, yeah. I really like these investigators technique. As they're conducting these interviews, they're not saying, "Hey, there's a there's a resident at this location that got pregnant and we know she got raped and we're trying to find a rapist." Um they're not saying any of that. They're just saying, "Hey, we're we're conducting an investigation and you know, we're looking at at all of the males that work there between this time and this time. We just want to know what you do and you know, and tell us about working there." Um so, I like the the broad scope as they're you know, asking some employees about other employees and if there tends to be a common trend of "Hey, that's the guy that um that seems a little off." and it appears that uh they're going to head in that direction. After leaving Isaiah, investigators meet with another employee who brings up a familiar name. Is it true that she had a baby? Is it true I'm not divulging anything. I said open investigation. Okay. So, I can't I can't go into details about that. Okay. I can't Can I ask you about a certain individual that may have Yeah. I see a field >> Can we just talk to him? Or can I ask you Can we just talk to him? Can we just came back? Though the employee doesn't explain why he suspects him. After all the swabs are collected and processed, a DNA test comes back positive for 22-year-old Isaiah Fields. On May 10th, 2024, he's brought into an interrogation where he waits for questioning to begin. And this James Field Why is Why is he in custody? Hats off to these investigators. Um throughout my career, I have I've just I've never wanted to be a detective. I've never wanted to do 25 interviews and piece a case together. Um it's just it's not what I love about law enforcement. Uh so, I just I've always liked things that are a little bit more active. Um things that are more stimulating, being on the road, uh something that is is fluid and constantly changing and evolving. Uh so, that's what I've chosen. Absolutely hats off to these investigators that put together an incredible case, did great interviews, um and then ultimately ended up taking their suspect into custody, and he will obviously be doing hopefully decades uh behind bars where he can't victimize anyone. He said Jesus really blessed him. He said he was going to go to church with Jesus. Investigators enter and read his Miranda rights. Let me just start by asking, do you have any idea why you would be here right now? Okay, no clue? Okay. Um >> [snorts] >> You know why I talked to you before, right, about the Marfan stuff? So I never got any like You just told me it was a case of Marfan. Okay. Okay. So, what I would like to ask you, what we would like to know, if you could go over again what when you worked there for that just basically a month, wasn't that long? What what your training was like and what what what it was like after training, like what your job duties were. If you can just go over that again, I would appreciate it. For most of the time that I was there, um it was just training. Um like three weeks. We just sat in a room and watched videos all day. That was it. However, several employees who trained Isaiah gave a different account, explaining his duties went beyond watching training videos. And what were your daily activities when you got when you were training him? What were you guys in charge of? So, we're in charge of doing the CNA work, so like getting them up, dressed, changed, and then changed them into their CNA shirts, and then um we're cleaning them, interacting with them, and then doing the same thing, changing them, and then sending them back. You're training how to bathe, how to Yes. >> care for them. Okay, so that was part of training as well. >> Yes. But he wouldn't have That makes way more sense than watching videos. >> you bathe them? So, we put them in a tub, and they have a chair, and they are completely obviously submerged? No, oh, okay. They they're the water is running or you they have what is it called? So you basically sit like a not like this but a chair in in a shower and then you can take it off and yes them okay. Okay so at some point at the end of your training was there were you not with the trainer anymore were you kind of on your own your own schedule during the day? I forget what they called it but it was like a probationary period so like you were like with someone until you were like considered an actual nurse. This account is consistent with what his trainers told investigators. Would you have left him alone or anybody for that matter alone for an extended period of time with the residents while they're on training? No. Are you leaving anybody alone the trainees with the residents or anything like that? They're not supposed to be left alone with the residents. As questioning continues Isaiah insists that he remained in his probationary period until he claims he was fired for consistently showing up late. I just like don't really like fit in to many people. Employees who trained Isaiah highlighted odd behavior he exhibited during his training. He's kind of odd just like in general just like very off. Anything that stuck out to you was odd or anything like that? He wouldn't listen he would always question oh why can't you do that way and it's like you're in health care it's like there's specific reasons these are things. Mhm. Uh he would like face talk some of the residents and we have cameras in the classroom and the angle of it all was just really bad. Yeah with the cameras it would literally look like he was staring at her. I should clarify he never actually did that. No he never actually did. Okay. As the interrogation continues Isaiah appears to become overwhelmed with emotion and investigators work to put him at ease. What's upsetting you? This. It's okay. I'm I'm here to listen. If something's upsetting you, please let us know. We'll see what we can do to help. Not really like anything in particular. Just Um Just life's not easy, you know? I know. That's all. I get life gives us some curveballs sometimes. I think 24/7 I've never had the guidance of a man. My father died when I was really young. Oh. So, you know, I've just never really had like proper guidance, you know? So, in this interview, our suspect's like, "Oh, I never really had a father figure, you know, he died when I was young." I'm just going to throw this out there. I'm I'm pretty sure, like 99.9% sure, that in the course of being brought up in a developed country like the United States, that you have to know that raping someone that's developmentally disabled with a slew of medical issues is bad. I don't feel like you need a dad to tell you that. I feel like like just being on Earth in the United States and walking around, you could get the gist of rape is bad. I don't feel like you need someone to tell you. I just That's my feeling. As one detective leaves the room to get Isaiah more water and a snack, the remaining investigator sits with him as his emotions continue to unravel. Take a breath. You're all right. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. You're all right. And I'm really sorry to hear that about your parents and stuff, okay? It That's >> [snorts] >> It It just hurts. Come on. It's okay. It takes a lot for for you to sit here and allow yourself to to have these feelings. You know, to to allow yourself to have emotion. It It can be a lot, especially in in front of people you don't know. >> [snorts] >> I'm not sure what we do. I just need to confirm with them that my message is to give it to you. I can't. Our suspect is already in county jail Orange. Um I don't know why that typically on something like this you have your suspect um detectives will go contact them, bring them in, have a conversation with them. Um in this case, you know, he invokes he invokes then they're like, "All right, well, you're under arrest." Because they already have enough probable cause, that's why um they brought him in in the first place. But this one with him already being in in Orange um and having changed out, I don't know and they don't specify it if he's already there for a totally different unrelated charge and then he was in custody already, so they just brought him in and interviewed him um or or what. So, it's kind of it's kind of a question mark in my mind as to why he's already uh cuz obviously he didn't know the charges, so he hadn't already gone to an initial appearance court um and been advised of what he was under arrest for. So, I don't know what's going on here, but it's uh my knee-jerk is that he's probably in there for something else and then has this dropped on him while he's already in custody. All right, I can't answer any more questions then. I'm sorry. No? It's okay. I'll leave you at it. She'll give you How much time? I don't have any more time. What's that? I don't have any more time. Yeah, you don't. Yeah, I don't have any more time. Just so you know, Kate had a baby and and her dad There we go. So, in our last predator video, we had a crime against a child and I think society pretty much says, "Hey, that's the worst crime that you can commit." And then this suspect's like "Hold my beer. I'm going to victimize someone who's developmentally disabled. Which arguably could be worse. It's It's bad. Like they're both 10s on a scale of terribleness of 1 to 10. 1 to 10 of terribleness that's a 10. But this suspect just may have found a way to be more terrible than the worst people on the planet. >> As investigators exit the room, I say a process is the gravity of the situation and the consequences he's facing. Yep. I just told you. She just idiot. You are I'm Give me another one, Jesus. I'm telling I beg you. Yeah, I don't think that's what Jesus is for. I beg you. Give me one chance. That's all that I ask. Give me one chance. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I'll do anything. I'm doing military something thing like No. I mean I'll do all this with the prosecutor. I'll do anything [clears throat] better. Please. Please just give me one more chance. Please. This is a combination of chance and this child's life. So while our suspect is having a conversation with God, he says that he wants to be involved in this child's life. I don't I feel like that's probably not a good idea since you are a rapist. Um and obviously show very poor impulse control. At having access to a child is probably not the right thing for you. Um I I don't know, but I God might agree. I think everyone agrees. You guys have to agree, right? I'll do what the sex offender says. Anything. Please don't make me spend years in jail. I'm praying. Multiple news outlets have reported that Kate developed a dangerous pregnancy condition known as preeclampsia and that the infant died after spending 11 weeks in neonatal intensive care. However, we've not been able to independently confirm these reports. According to an official press release from the State Attorney's Office, on January 14th, 2025, Isaiah Fields pled guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the Illinois Department of Corrections with 308 days credited for time spent in the Kane County Jail. In addition, Isaiah must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act. >> So, that's our first video from EWU body cam. Um little bit more serious topic, you know, little bit something that's out there. It's a crime that's committed. Um it's a feel-good arrest when you get to put handcuffs on that person and book them in the jail. But uh we're looking for some feedback, so uh jump down in the comments, let us know what you think, let us know if you want us to continue to um address this type of crime like we have in other ones.
