My heart is broken, you know, from breathing and and >> Okay. Have you ever Has this ever happened before? >> Why am I being arrested? >> Because of how you left the dog. Okay. The dog was left for an extended period of time in the vehicle with no water, no food, no nothing. And I got here and the dog was clearly in distress. Okay. >> He had water. Uh >> there was no water when I was here >> twice last night. >> Okay. Time and again, pets prove to be innocent and fragile, relying entirely on humans for protection. Yet, some are [music] left exposed by their very owners to conditions no creature should endure. >> Why would you do that? You don't me. >> Oh my god. You really just my dog, >> you [ __ ] to wear that badge. >> No, we don't. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> And he's not going to. >> Here are heartbreaking moments when welfare checks expose animal cruelty. Starting with Miguel Salgado, a grubby dog hoarder who's kept hundreds of dogs in a tiny room, resulting in over 20 of them ending up deceased within a week and exposed [music] on the street. >> Newspaper for problems with animals. >> There's just a bunch of stuff stacked up everywhere and they're on top of it, on things, underneath things. So, there could be a lot more. >> On April the 15th, 2025, on a sunny day in northern Utah, Ogden Police and the Ogden Animal Services Department responded to a resident after multiple disturbing calls about a dog hoarder whose multiple deceased dogs had been found scattered around the perimeter within the past week. When the officers and animal service team arrived, what they saw was far more devastating than [music] anything they could have imagined. >> Oh, Lord. cats. >> Can we talk to you over here for a second? >> I need somebody in Spanish. >> Yeah. >> Can you come over here? >> Yeah. >> Is there anybody else in the house? >> Yeah. How many >> you have >> burned in the heart? >> I got problem now. And and me too. I have one problem in the heart too. I got >> Oh, ouch. What do you call? >> I very nervous. I better >> and you know the problem more more more pass the time and more more. >> I called the lady help the other time for the helping help you but he's is not here. He's moving for all the mistake. is not here. Then I call now for the and then she she's changed the the phone and I call for Messenger and Facebook and no no answer no for help for hell again the other time that you maybe not remember Miguel coming newspaper not newspaper >> for for problems with animals So >> those only dogs are in the house. >> He he say sorry he say I needed time for this or and he say no no no coming animal control. I give it the dog for the best best friend animals. >> I call um probo or something over there sanuary. Yeah, that's the thing is so animal control is going to probably take the dogs today. So they're here, >> but I don't know if he's having problems and I know me too. >> What do you mean? What kind of problems in >> the mind? And then >> he's not he's not going to be dangerous though. >> He's not going to be dangerous though to the police, right? >> No. I know. Um >> I tried like I tried talk to him and I tal to me and he say no no no um animal control my dogs. >> He saying crying cry every day cry cry me too. >> So how many >> I love the dogs. I love it the people coming. I put just today I put a two dogs here. A friend of the suspect tried to play smart, doing everything he could do to protect him, but he had no idea the officers had more details than he had revealed. >> Uh, search warrant. >> We're serving you with a search warrant. Okay. >> Will you will you just type on there to have him from the doorway call his friend out? >> Will you call your friend out from the doorway, please? >> Don't go inside. Okay. No permiss in LA. >> Right. >> I told him I told him to just call him out. >> Out of Miguel. You want to call? Okay. again. Is it >> lock? >> Yes. >> Go. And there's nobody else in the house. >> Let's take them to the street. Let's get a pole comes out. >> Go before we open the door. Let's get like a a dog. >> Uh, no. Okay. After putting Miguel into custody, the officers moved methodically through the property, uncovering the full scale of the chaos left behind. Each step revealing a scene more shocking than the last. I >> think we'll open the door. Probably just catch and rescue. >> We'll just hold cover on the door and then any dog that comes out is >> I think what we're going to want to do first is go in and get as many photos as we can. >> Okay. We're going to secure it first and then but I know dogs and a lot of animals are probably going to run out. Yeah. >> So, we're just going to make we're going to make sure it's safe. >> Okay. Do you guys want to leave the truck there? That'll be This will be good for you as far as resources go. >> Let's just close these. >> Come on in. I just We don't know what's in the house. >> Unleash the crap. Show at you guys. >> The house first. >> Yeah. We're going to just hold cover. We'll do announcements. [music] We'll let dogs come out and then we'll do our best to just secure as many dogs as we can or animals that are just inevitably going to run at us with them. But we need to just hold cover on the door. You cool with that? >> Do you do you not want to clear it first just in case there's anybody on there? >> Well, dogs are going to run out. So, at least they can help us secure some out here so it's not so chaotic. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. >> Everything that I heard first. >> Okay, cool. So no like >> okay >> holy >> city police charge what come to the door like 40 right city police you're inside make yourself known we have a search warrant I was expecting like 10, dude. Just keep going. See, Grand, make yourself known. Hey, Teemo. >> You want to back out? >> You want a mask out? >> This is bad, dude. >> Mask. >> Holy Oh, I got gas. >> I'm going to go put my gas. >> That is >> my eyes burn, man. >> Dude, the ammonia is not good, bro. >> We have hazmat suits in our trucks. >> You You guys might need >> Well, we are, but >> you definitely want your gas mask. >> We're going to get our mask. I mean, >> I mean, you never It's never zero. >> It's never zero. >> Oh my gosh. [laughter] There's >> Grab your mask. Grab your mask. >> I just want to make it fast, and I don't want to go slow. >> The officers discovered dozens of dogs crammed into the apartment. Thinking they were close to wrapping up the investigation, they soon stumbled upon even more disturbing issues that no one could have anticipated. Open search. Open back down. How clear No, it's >> the front door. >> All right, back out. >> Are we clear? >> Yeah. >> No upstairs. Yeah. What's up? Are we good? >> Yeah. >> A few minutes later, additional animal control backup arrived, ready to investigate further. And what they uncovered went far beyond anything the officers had earlier seen inside the house. >> It's mostly dogs. >> Once you once you start coming this way towards the front of the house and wrap around to where the front door is, there's a room on that side. There's mainly all cats in there. >> How many? >> 10. >> Okay. >> And they're little kitties, too. So, I mean, there's just a bunch of stuff stacked up everywhere. And they're on top of it on things underneath things. So, there could be a lot more. >> There's just stuff all over. >> Y keep my gloves in. There's nowhere. Okay. >> So, they seem friendly. They seem like they were just sniffing you guys. >> Yeah, just sniffing. Just kind of jumping up on us. So it doesn't >> I don't think they need pets. No. >> No. >> Okay. >> Like how do you guys go about doing this? >> We just start loading and we have someone with a trailer coming. >> Like is it like kennels or like >> Yeah. We've got kennels in our trucks and then we've got a horse trailer. >> That that's more than just a pet issue. That is a health hazard. The fact that they're living in there. >> Yeah. nuts. >> In the end, he was charged with animal cruelty, creating a public nuisance, multiple licensing violations, and more than 600 other related offenses. Then we have this R&B singer called Jiheim Hogland, who kept over five dogs terribly malnourished and sick in a recreational vehicle, believing he could get away with it just like he had in the past, only to be reminded by officers that his illusion of immunity was over. >> Why y'all searching through my bus? First of all, they going to tell you everything. >> Y'all been harassing me for a week for some damn dog. Why do I have handcuffs on them? >> Cuz you have a warrant for animal cruelty, sir. >> Why do I have a warrant for animal cruelty? >> Because of the condition of your dog. >> So, all the puppies that were right here, >> all had way overgrown fingernails. They had uh feces clustered around their nose. On April the 27th, 2025, in Georgia's most populous county, Falton County, animal control received a call from the shops of Buckhead about a man named Jim Hogland, who had allegedly kept many dogs malnourished and unattended in an RV for an extended period. Arriving at the location, they met with a mess far beyond what they expected. Hold on. Take my phone, please. Take my phone, please. >> What are you arresting me for? >> Why you searching through my bus? First of all, >> they going to tell you everything. >> You don't have to put the cuffs on me like that, man. Why are you Why are you hurting my wrist? You putting these cuffs on too tight, man. Hold on. My sick, >> bro. What are you doing this for, man? Why you letting him treat me like that, man? >> You all hostile, man. >> Not really. You should have came We called your name, correct? >> I had to call my people to let them know what's going on. >> We called your name, correct? >> No, you call You don't know me. >> Hold on. What are you arresting me for? >> First of all, y searching something that's illegal, my man. >> Not with a search warrant, sir. >> It's not under my name. >> We have a search warrant, though. Not under my name. >> Hogland Family Trust. I know what it's under. >> That's not my name. >> I have a search warrant. >> So what? >> So we have ground for the police. >> You ain't You was chief of police. So what? You don't have jurisdiction over that bus. >> We have a search war. >> That's a private bus. >> That's a lawsuit. You don't have to be so hostile, sir. >> I'm walking. I'm walking, brother. I got you. Keep walking. Don't make no sense, man. Y'all been harassing this for a week for some damn dogs. >> Nobody. >> Excuse me. >> Nobody here. >> No, but why why you why you searching for my illegal search? >> You don't have to do this. I can just give him a dog if that's the case. >> Come on, man. The dog is all right. Y'all do this for homeless people. Do not do this when people need a place to eat and and all that. Go >> ahead. Come on. What are you putting handcuffs on me for? Why do I have Why do I have handcuffs on me? >> Cuz you have a warrant for animal cruelty, sir. >> Why do I have a warrant for animal cruelty? >> Because of the condition of your dog. What condition are what dogs? >> The dogs you have in your RV, sir. >> What dogs? >> The dogs in your RV. >> Those are not my under Miami. >> They're in your custody and care right now. >> They're not I'm not driving that bus as well. >> He thought eloquence and boldness for all it takes to clean up the mess, unaware that the officers were determined not to let him slip away so easily this time around. >> Put him in close door. [music] >> Put your feet in. Turn around. Put your feet in. Where's your uh your uh your >> How you doing? >> I'm good. >> Can we Can we figure something out? Because this is like for what? I have nothing. >> Okay. You want to make sure you go ahead my babies, man. Can I have my keys back? >> No sir. What's up? >> I got to I got to take that jewelry off. You going to take this off the jail. >> Take it off. >> Can you put your camera on, please? >> It's off. Where your camera at? >> Right here. Can you please make sure it's on? >> It is. >> I don't see the red button. >> It's on. >> You got Y'all got your cameras on? cuz you taking my gold chain off. [music] >> I'mma be suing you, miss. Both of y'all. >> Yes, I am. The trust will be suing you. >> I'm not even mad at you officers for doing your job. But this isn't illegal. This is all illegal. >> Everything. >> Are you okay with him leaving? >> No, I'm not. If you taking it off of me now, it needs to [singing] be with me, not on the RV. >> Go into the property. >> It's going to go in our property. >> Let's go. >> Why you taking it off of me now? >> Because you can't take it into the jail. >> I know how this girl. I've been arrested before. >> I get that. >> You're supposed to put it in a plastic bag. >> I get that. I will. >> The keys and all of that. >> I know. Let me help you out. If you want to have the cuff so tight, this wouldn't happen. You trying to break my arm putting your cuffs on me. You see what you call right here? You happy now? Are you happy? You want to be a cop so bad? You're not a cop. Devil. That's what you are. A devil. >> That's none of your business. What goes on with those dogs? It's none of your business. >> How you take this? Turn one. Take it. >> Hey, listen. What I can do is I can uncuff the one hand. [music] Let him take that off. So, >> okay, that's cool. It ain't going nowhere. Hey, >> turn around. Face off real quick. This makes no sense, man. But >> this isn't illegal. This is all illegal. >> Everything. >> Are you okay with him? They should be dead afterwards. >> No, I'm not. If you taking it off of me now, it needs to be with me, not on their property. It's got to go on our property. >> Let's go. >> Why you taking it off of me now? >> Taking it to the jail. >> I know how to I've been arrested before. >> I get that. You're supposed to put it in the plastic bag. >> I get that. I will. >> The keys and all of that. >> I know. >> Why? >> Why was there an arm approaching on me? going. >> After they had him under control, the officers conducted a thorough search and found over five dogs of different breeds, all malnourished and suffering from [music] various illnesses, some barely hanging on. With enough evidence stacked against him, the officers didn't hesitate to hit him with a harsh dose of reality. >> He's going to jail. You're going to take >> back real quick. >> He has put you to do that, man. >> We're giving this to him >> with that >> phone. You can't do anything. gold chain with that necklace. >> All this could we take this stuff? Could I take >> You're going to I want to show him that we're giving it all back. >> My other stuff is in the hotel. You can grab it from up there. >> You see the bracelet in there? >> Yeah. Bracelet and >> ring are right there. >> Okay. >> Hold on. >> And then you have is it lipstick or lip gloss? And then this. Okay. >> I don't wear lipstick. Good job. >> All right. All that is going with him after him get here. >> Thank you. >> Hey, can I can I can I show him how to do the slide first? >> You can tell them. >> So, the door is damaged. I can't even lock it. >> Uh, you know what though? You could probably just go to the Well, >> I'm going to take it to get fixed. >> Yeah. Well, just they they sell the doors at the What? Yeah, I'll get the purchase by the house. >> I'm I'm going to get you situated. I got you. >> So, look the slide. You know how to do the the slide on the doors? >> I got you. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about >> So, on the on the on the >> Bring them in. Yeah. >> You know how to do that? >> Yeah. >> You remember? >> Yeah. >> Hold on. >> So, we're just going to document and report that everything. >> Will he have an appearance tonight? >> Probably not. More likely tomorrow. >> So, they going to hold me in jail? Well, you'll see the judge and then you'll get a bomb. >> So So no apparently. >> I mean, possibly depending on what time you get there, but >> it's early. I wish we can. >> This is a misunderstanding. That's all it is. It shouldn't be a warrant. >> It shouldn't be a warrant situation. The dog Hey ma'am, did the dogs look unhealthy to you? >> No. Me and you took the pictures though, right? >> Who is the dog animal control? >> The ladies back there. The dog's got the dog. >> We're the ones that I had to trust. At this moment, at this moment, >> at this moment, the trust >> 2015. >> Well, you know what's real good? That where where we were located at, it's cameras there. I mean, you can see us feeding and watering and walking and everything. So, I'm going I'm going to have to subpoena your police cameras that's over there where the bus was at, too. >> Cuz you can you can see that. And I had officers come over there. Five officers saw the dogs and was like everything was okay. >> Driving. Who's taking it right now? >> You're going to leave your car here? >> Yeah. >> Hey, so this is So if you have any questions, just call us. >> Yeah. >> So, let me ask you a question, man. >> Okay. Never mind. We going to the police station now. Okay. >> And you said you were okay with him getting your stuff out the hotel, correct? >> Yeah. You They already know. They already already know. Okay. >> He's taking your stuff out of the hotel. All right. >> Okay. >> Hey, tell uh tell the uh just tell them show them that you're the guy with the bus and you want to come to get the >> hotel, right? >> Yeah, he right here. He going to take me up. Okay. >> Yeah. Um, >> I'm trying to get this situated. >> I'm trying to figure this out, though. What? How did How did police know I was here? >> Did they put a tracker on that on that property right there? In the end, he was charged with failing to provide adequate food, water, sanitation, and proper ventilation for six dogs, bringing his cruelty to light. Next is a woman named Tanya who kept dozens of animals cramped up and starving in her apartment. >> I just don't want to lose my dogs and I don't want to lose what I'm trying to do. >> Putting him out here in the heat in a crate. >> I hear a dog crying as if it's in distress. We need to go in that backyard. The dogs being Orange County. >> I didn't want dogs to die. On September the 20th, 2023 in Altoonte Springs, Sanford, Florida, officers received a call from a concerned neighbor about a woman reportedly abusing her dogs, cats, and birds, denying them food, and water for weeks. When officers and animal control arrived at her apartment, they found her waiting at the front door. And from the moment they started interrogating her, it was clear that there was more to her than they expected. >> Good morning. >> Good morning. So, we're here. We've got some questions. >> Yes. >> Um, first, you know, we need to do the the check of the house. We need to see inside. We need to check all the animals. >> Um, code enforcement is going to have some questions for you. >> Okay. >> Um, and >> all of these dogs are currently listed on your rescue page. I need to know where they all are. >> Okay. I'm going to have to get your addresses and stuff. I don't have them right on me. >> No, I need them. We're going to need before we leave today. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to need to know. >> They're in foster homes. Um >> Well, they're all 19 of them are listed as needing foster homes, >> right? Some of them are in temporary where they have to be moved like ASAP. >> Okay. Okay. >> So, I'm going to need all of them. >> I was going to say um cuz some of them are like there's foster foster addresses for foster. >> Yeah. So, we'll, like I said, before we leave today, we're going to have to um >> Do you just need phone numbers? Do you need addresses? What do you need? >> I need all of it. I need phone numbers. I need addresses. Um and I need all of their vaccination histories, etc. Um >> I can probably go through my phone and get most of them. If not, I have the paperwork. I'm just going to have to pull it out for you. >> Yeah. I'm going to need all like all of their their vet history, etc. Okay. >> Um I'm going to we're going to go inside, you know, take a look around. Um you I need to see the birds. >> Okay. >> I need I need to I need to see all of the animals. I need to see your entire house. >> Okay. I'm not ready for that. >> It we're it's been over a year. >> I understand that. And >> over a year and you've canceled for the last 3 months >> and I apologize for that. I explained it to you, but I am not ready for you to go back in the rest of my house. What was explained to me was the living conditions of the dogs in the areas. If you can give me another appointment, I will let you back there, but I I can't at this moment. >> I I mean, theoretically, maybe we can discuss it, but I need the information for the dogs. I >> need all the information, but >> where you normally go, all of that perfectly fine. It's just the back bedrooms I do I've been working on and they are absolute mess. And I am >> well a mess we can deal with, but the back bedrooms do affect the condition of the entire home, you know, and the odors, all of that. So, >> I'm really not comfortable. >> I mean, I I can't I can't make you do anything. >> But I like even if it's like in less than a week, just give me a couple days even. I will I I'll get it fixed up and you can come back and I absolutely will do it cuz I'm not working right now. >> Well, we'll I'll tell we'll address that at like on the other end. Um but I do need to see the birds today before I leave. like actually physically see them. >> Absolutely. Yes, we need to check the the the welfare of the birds before we >> um one's going to be very hard to get out. She's an African cray. She was my husband's bird and she will bite me. >> Okay. Again, she's in a cage. Yeah. You >> just need to see. >> But I'm not comfortable with you going where the cage is. >> Wheel it out to us. >> Bring out this tall. >> Well, I can't really You have to check the welfare of the birds. >> I'm just saying it may take me a minute to get her out is what I'm saying. Okay. >> See their living condition. >> Yeah, I have to see their living conditions. >> The cages not okay at this moment. >> I mean, so >> I I'll bring the birds out to you. Give me a couple days. It's just I've been as I canceled on you because I've been going through hell. Their cages are not as clean as they should be. I know they're not. That's what I'm trying to freaking >> Oh, that's part of of the issue, Ty. We It's been over a year. It's been over a year that we've been >> I have been keeping them up. If this had been two three months ago, I would have more than welcome be seeing them. But with this I've been going through, I've fallen behind on them. And I will admit that. And it's not fair and it's not right. And that's why I'm asking for a couple days. Just let me get it fixed because they deserve better and I love them. Honestly, it's been a bad couple months. >> She carefully chose her words, trying not to get herself tangled. She knew that the cops were already on her, but perhaps with a well-ld lie or maybe pretending to be a good dog mom, she'd be able to throw them off her trail. >> Honestly, you know, we have a very good rapport and you know, I've explained to you many times, I am absolutely about giving you all the help and assistance that that I can because I want things to be better, not just for the animals, but for you. But ultimately, we're the voice of the animals. And you're telling me by your own admission that the quality and living conditions of those animals is not good. >> It's not as good as it should be is what I'm saying. >> Exactly. So, unfortunately, and like I said, we we can maybe address it on the other end, but the way it stands right now is that we need to see the birds and their living conditions. You've not allowed us to see them from the beginning. No, you said once that you wanted to see him and then you said, "Never mind. I don't need to see them." >> No, that's not true. >> No, the first day you said you didn't want me in the back part of the home, but I I we we gave you that. It's been a year. We still haven't seen the birds. >> I'll bring them out where you can see them. That's totally fine. They have to be inside. Their wings are not clipped, just so you know. >> Okay. >> Um I'm totally fine with that. >> Is also the issue that we were working together under the pretense that you would not bring any more animals into the home. >> Correct. And you have >> because Sven actually went to boarding for over a month and I couldn't afford to keep him there anymore. >> Right. But you pulled Sven from Orange County. >> He was once he was about to matter. >> That does not matter. You you we specifically >> So I was supposed to just let him when I actually personally knew him >> supposed to bring him into your home if you wanted to facilitate um you know a foster for him or something. It wasn't that I was impinging him because I personally knew the family had it. >> It's unfortunate, but you are not you were not supposed to bring any new animals into your home. You knew that >> it was a condition. >> I apologize, but the only animals that are here that are other than mine were all in the point that they they literally were taken the day before they were going to >> Again, I I mean, I I I am compassionate for your compassion and I have empathy for your situation. It doesn't change the fact that you brought them here and they're not supposed to be here. I you know the conditions of the house are not conducive for for what you're doing. We've talked about that. You know that >> I know you know I didn't want to let them >> and there wasn't other options like Red that's here. I have his paperwork. He's under safe house. He's leaving today. >> You're you were only supposed you were only authorized two of your dogs passed. So you should only have three dogs in your home. >> That I have two dogs and then there's there's and then there's two others. So, which are new that you weren't, you know, I mean, you have to look at it from our perspective, Tanya. And, you know, I understand you're trying to do a nice and a good thing for the dogs, but the conditions in your home weren't acceptable to bring new dogs into. We talked about that. You knew when you emailed me from the pet your new pet rescue email, you told me that you were just getting it set up so when your house was back to good, you would be able to do that. But that's not what's happened. I really didn't think it was. >> I'm sorry. >> I really I will apologize for that. I really thought that with knowing that they were going to >> I mean two of them are temporary. >> Looking for other foster homes are not going to stay here. >> It's definitely an issue. >> I mean it was like the biggest condition that we kind of had other than you know making progress. >> I I apologize. The ones I haven't boarded, you just want the boarding facility name and then like the phone number for them. >> Yeah. Like it's Yeah. Any like Yes. If they're at the boarding facility, I need the name of the boarding facility and contact phone number. Okay. So, I'm assuming I don't It's just like a It's not like somebody's boarding out of their house. They're >> No, no, no. I have two that are Country Club Pet World and Longwood. I have two that are like at Lake Under Hill Animal Hospital boarding. >> Yeah. So, just if you um as a matter of fact, here, let me do this. >> Although it was almost looking like she had been able to convince them, it was her day of reckoning. And in times like this, it was [music] going to be difficult for her to prevent the cops from digging out her dirty secrets. >> So, let's let's do this. Let's take a look inside, check out the dogs, and see what's going on. Is there a dog back there? >> Yeah. What happened? >> Is there Is there a dog back there? >> Do you have a dog in your backyard? Just tell us. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Yes. I'm sorry. I'll get him. We need to go back and see where the dog's being kept. >> No, that's not where he's being kept. I moved him out of the house and literally put him in a break. >> I knew what this was going on and I'm stressing out. I'm sorry. I'll get him. >> Just bring the dog out here. >> I'll get him here. >> Thank you. >> I'm sorry. >> It's okay. Just bring the dog out here. >> Get the hell out. I'm sorry. Okay. >> It's okay. Just [music] It's bring the dog out here. It's fine. Just bring it out here. >> I just don't want to lose my dog and I don't want to lose what I'm trying to do. >> I don't have a leash. I'm sorry. It is Jensen. He's the foster address that I gave you >> later today. >> How many dogs do you have in this backyard? >> No, it's just him. >> It's just him. I didn't want him to be over. I'm serious. >> I'm sorry. >> Well, Tanya, I mean, at this point, you leave me no choice, but I mean, I have to verify. I mean, you lied. So, >> I'm trying to tell you the truth. You're We're definitely trying to work with you. I know that this is a lot, okay? But you have to be honest. because he was back here. I have to make sure that there's no other dogs back here in my backyard cuz it's a liability thing and it's not my house. I mean, here's the thing. I'll give you addresses where the others are. You can verify them. Like, it's a I don't Okay, if you had been upfront with us and told us the truth, hey, I've got one over here. >> I know. I was scared. What were you scared? Scared about? >> Because I'm over the limit. And I'm not supposed to have them. Just like you said, I took more than I was supposed to take. >> I don't know what limit you're talking about. >> I'm over the county limit for even having animals in my house. And I know that. "No, your dogs are chasing me." I said, "My dogs are [music] in this fence. Get off the car." He refused to get off the car. >> Okay. >> So, I told him it was about to be a bad day for him and I come back in the back door and when I did, he took off running up the road. That's the last we seen of him. >> Okay. Okay. I was hoping his mama would come back down here. You don't see a kid out at 6:30 in the morning somebody's house opening a gate in their backyard. >> So, is he in your backyard? >> He was. He had to have been. The gate was open. It can be wide open >> and they don't go outside. >> Okay. And stay right here. >> Every statement the couple gave the officer flowed in perfectly. Almost as if they had rehearsed it a hundred times. But with a disturbing report about the dog, it was most unlikely that the couple were going to go unscathed. >> We out the gate. >> Hey, bud. >> Hey, come on. >> Get back. >> Get down. >> Why would you do that? >> Oh my god. In the end, the couple's son was arrested and charged with a police officer. Next on the list is a man who locked his dog named Bojangles in his car for hours under a temperature of 85° for almost a whole day. >> Hey, make him jump in the car with the water. Take the water in the car. >> Why am I being arrested? >> Because of how you left the dog. On May the 5th, 2024, under the blazing sun of Palm Beach County, South Florida, Officer Gary and his partner responded to a call about a dog trapped in a car with the owner nowhere in sight. As temperatures soared to 85°, they arrived just in time, hoping to contain this looming disaster. Come on, come at Come out. Come on. Come on. Come on. There we go. Come on. Come here. Come here. Come on. Come on. That's it. >> Let me get under you. That's it. Come on, dog. Get in. Wait. Wait. Come on. Come on. >> Go the other side. Open the other door. Come on. This way. There's the water. Come on. Come on. >> After getting the dog stable and putting the situation under control, the owner, who obviously had a lot of questions to answer, showed up suddenly. >> Is this your car, sir? >> Yeah, it is. >> Okay. So, this is registered to you. >> Where you going? >> Right here. >> She's in the back for what? Your dog? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Give him a minute. It's in the back of my car. There's AC on in there. Okay. >> So, I do just have to talk to you before I ask you any kind of questions or anything like that. I have to let you know of your your rights. Okay. So, before we start, I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional [music] rights. Do you understand? >> Okay. So, that being said, I do just have a couple of questions. Um, the dog that was this this vehicle, this is your vehicle, correct? >> Okay. And so, the dog that was inside the vehicle, that's your dog, correct? What's the dog's name? >> Mr. Bojangles. >> Mr. Bojangles. Uh 10 weeks. >> When When did you leave him in the car is what I'm trying to ask. >> Last night. >> Last night. So you left him last night. So, what reason did you leave him here in the car? >> He's fine in the car for like an hour or so. >> Did you leave him any kind of water, food, anything like that in the car? >> I walked him uh and I gave him water. >> What did you put the water in? >> Uh cup. >> Cup. >> Yeah. >> And so you you said last night around what time did you leave here? It's a blur cuz it was sunfest last night and >> um >> what was the question? >> Around what time last night did you leave him in the car here? And you said that you left last night. What time was that? >> I left him in the afternoon. Late afternoon. >> You told me that you left him last night. I said I was looking for him last night. >> Right. So, how would you have been looking for him last night but didn't leave him? Obviously, you would have had to leave him if you were looking for him. Correct. >> Yeah. He was in the car, >> right? >> Uh so I was looking for ad for him. >> Mhm. And then you couldn't find him. Correct. >> I couldn't find him. I And so I gave up. >> I uh fell asleep. uh last night and at 6:00 this morning I started to look for >> Okay. Where So from 6:00 until you came back over here in the car, where were you? >> Where was I? >> Yeah. >> Uh at my sister's house. >> Okay. And when you got to your sister's house, did you mention anything about the dog? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Did you guys come look for the dog? We >> were We were on our way. >> You were on your way? Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Is there anything else that you want to tell me? Anything else you feel is relevant to my investigation? >> No. >> No. >> No. You know, um, my heart is broken, you know, from and and >> Okay. Have you ever has this ever happened before? >> No. He tried to cover his tracks, hoping to convince the officers that things hadn't happened the way they assumed, but his nephew's confession spoke otherwise. Is not well. >> Okay. >> He uh he kind of disappeared. Um went all the way up to New York, back to Florida. He's like not mentally there anymore. Just kind of like fell apart. Um, and today my mom called me while I was at work saying that my uncle just appeared at her house, just walked up with nothing. >> After hearing everything the owner and his cousin had to say, the officers closed the scene with a decisive move [music] that he would never forget. >> So, what's going to happen is animal care is here, okay? So, they have to take the dog, >> okay? >> All right. They're going to call you once they once they check the dog out. So once the dog is determined to be okay to be released. So once they get the dog out of my car, you'll go into my car. [music] >> Why am I being arrested? >> Because of how you left the dog. >> Okay. The dog was left for an extended period of time in the vehicle with no water, no food, no nothing. We had a call about a dog and I got here and the dog was clearly in distress. Okay. >> He had water. Uh >> there was no water when I was here >> twice last night. >> Okay. Well, it's also South Florida and it's extremely hot and sunny. Okay. So, for him to be in that car all day by himself with no water, no nothing. Okay. In the end, he was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
