So each one of these customer names, they're not real customers. >> You made them up. >> Yes. >> She has three separate credit cards and she's been fraudulently crediting them nine times for a total of $4,600. >> Employees and dumb decisions sometimes go hand in hand. From petty theft to register looting to elaborate frauds in lens covered stores. >> I wasn't going to take that. >> Yes, you were. You put it all in the box and you were leaving with it. Yeah, I wasn't going to take it. I was going to go back. >> So, you've already taken it past the regular. >> Are we going to find any more cases of you doing this? >> The more you are now, the less hard it's going to be >> because I don't want to let I don't want to have to take a whole bunch of arrest warrants on you that you don't know about. So, you get pulled over with your kids in the car and get taken to jail. >> Here are several moments when dumb employees think they could steal without getting caught. We begin with this dumb 21-year-old mother of three and former certified nurse assistant who stole from everything including the children's charity box at her workplace. >> I was a CNA and all that stuff. >> Okay. Yeah. Okay. >> I just have three babies. >> You got three kids? Okay. >> So, you said the fraud case you previously had, you said it was a few months ago. >> Yes, but we're It hasn't been like finished >> in reference to charity donations at work. What's going on with that? >> I haven't did anything wrong. >> At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July the 31st, 2024, police responded to a retail store after discovering a theft. An employee had been running a fraudulent refund scheme to steal money, accumulating a total of $1,900 over two weeks. >> So, the Children's Award, she was there and then doing a refund and pocketing the money. So, she did that for two weeks and total it was $1,900. She's on the register right now. I've got another manager in there who's supposed to pull her into the office so she doesn't get spooked and try to vul. Um, but she's in there right now stole $1,900 in total. >> So, do you have the >> We've got the CCTV footage. We've got receipts that she's rung up. She did it on another associate's numbers, but it we can match it to the cameras and see that it's her. She did on another associates >> numbers. Yeah. Sign it. So it's under somebody else's name, but you match the timestamps with the camera on the camera. It's her and you can see it >> put in her pocket and stuff. Okay. Hey, just turn around and put your hands behind your back for me. >> So, you're being placed under arrest right now for fraud. I know you got a lot of questions. cuz everything's going to be explained to you. Okay. >> Okay. >> Palms together >> like you're praying. [Music] >> Do you have anything illegal on your person? >> No. >> Knives, anything sharp that's going to poke, cut, or anything like that? >> Okay. >> Where would your belongings be? >> Over here. >> Where >> is there a purse or something? >> Over there. Okay. Just let me know which ones are yours. This >> just leave those here. >> And my purse is right there. Okay. >> My purse is right there. >> This purse? >> Yes. Do you have anything else? >> No. Okay. Wait. Oh, not that one. >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> Other one? >> This one? >> This one? >> Yes. Want help? Do you want to leave that here? >> Oh, yeah. >> She was taken in for further processing and questioning. And with every question asked, her answers left everyone in the interrogation room in complete disbelief. >> So, you're 20. 21. >> 21. >> 21. Okay. Um, how long you been working at 7-Eleven? Um, I want to say almost a month. A month and Yeah, about a month. >> You said about a month or >> a little over? Yes. >> Okay. >> Where you where you work before this? >> Um, McDonald's. Well, actually, I was a I wasn't at McDonald's for long. I was only there for like a few days. Um, but I was at I was a CNA and all that stuff. >> Yeah. Okay. >> All right. So, real quick before we get into any further into details, I just want to read you something real quick. It's kind of like procedure. Have you ever been read your rights before? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, you've been arrested before or no? >> What were you arrested for? >> Um, my previous charges um of what was it? Fraud. It was fraudulent stuff. It I can't tell you the exact charge, but I know it was >> like fraud related. >> Yes. >> Okay. How long ago was that? >> Um about two to three months, I want to say. >> Two to three months. Okay. All right. So, uh I'll read you this real quick. Just kind of get it out the way and then we can talk further. Okay. Understand your rights? >> Mhm. >> Yeah. I just need you to say yes. >> Yes. >> Thank you. All right. Um so, you've been working for for about a month or maybe a little over. >> Mhm. >> Uh before that, spent a little time in McDonald's. You did uh CNA. >> Mhm. >> Uh certified nurse assistant. Okay. >> Um All right. Do you like working at 7-Eleven? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Are you going to school or anything like that currently? No. >> All right. >> I just have three babies. >> You got three kids? Okay. All right. Um, so you said the fraud case you previously had, you said it was a few months ago. >> Yes, but we're It hasn't been like finished. I'm going through it. >> Are you still kind of going through it? Okay. >> Soon the officer dropped the hard question. A question he already had answers for. They were meant as bait, a way to measure the person in front of it. the reason why you're here today. Um, obviously there there's been some concern uh in reference to charity donations at work. You you know what I'm talking about. >> All right. Can you tell me what's going on with that? >> I haven't did anything wrong um by me starting being new. Um I work up under somebody else's numbers. Um they gave me numbers for my own register, >> but they wasn't working this morning when I tried to put them in. Um, from my understanding, I mean, I was still in the system for everything, so I don't really know too much about that. >> Um, >> so like numbers as as far as like kind of like >> register like Yeah, >> each employee has a different register number. Okay. >> All right. So, you kind of yours wasn't working or something like that. So, >> they she just had gave them to me. What was it? I was off yesterday. So, the day before that she gave me them. Um, I tried them this morning. and they would didn't work. >> Um, so I work up under someone else's numbers. >> Okay. Is it multiple people's numbers you work under or is it >> just hers? >> Just one specifically? >> Yes. Whoever like is over that shift when I get there. >> Like whatever manager or something like that. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Well, she's not a manager, but she's I guess a lead. >> Okay. Like a like a team lead. >> Okay. >> All right. So, the first thing you said is like I mean you didn't do anything wrong. >> What made you say that? because I haven't I mean they wouldn't really tell me anything when I was up there, but I I haven't did anything. I'm going through too much to be >> Yeah. >> The experienced interrogator resorted to a more subtle line of questioning, especially as the suspect denied an obvious truth, tempting her to reveal herself. >> Are you going through like just hard times right now at home or something like that? >> Not really. I mean, of course, bills, but >> yeah, >> and taking care of three kids, but that's really it. Okay. So, what was brought up um reference to these donations um is I guess there's a barcode that needs to be scanned. >> Um and management was able to review cameras and stuff. So, uh, so they got you scanning the barcodes, um, and then essentially literally pocketing the cash. >> Pocketing >> the cash out of the register. >> When did I pocket? >> I'm sorry. >> When did I p >> uh, there's apparently there were several incidents. Um, so that's that's what they brought up to us to our attention. This is why we're here right now. >> And that's that's what I'm trying to figure out cuz obviously you're saying one thing. >> Yeah. And they have they have video showing something entirely different. >> Yeah. >> So >> I mean if you're going through hard times cuz I get it. I mean we all go through difficult challenges and stuff like that especially financial issues. I know >> uh you know being a parent you know money can it's tough especially you know for you and you have other responsibilities and people to take care of >> and if if that's the case that's something that that led you to this like I understand. I mean, but it's it's I'm talking to cuz I want you to be straight with me cuz if you're being dishonest, then that says something totally different. And now we have videos showing otherwise. I mean, it's I rather you just be straight with me. Say, "Hey, look, I messed up. I'm not perfect." And I get that cuz no one's perfect. But if you're saying one thing and then I have evidence to say otherwise and it's not matching up, then that I mean that shows a different character. And I don't looking at you, I don't think you're like that. I mean I don't think you're that type of person. I mean you you're young. You you know you're still trying to make plans and grow, you know, I mean raise your family and I get that. I mean it's if you made a mistake, I mean this is this is me talking to you. I want you to just be honest so that way we can figure out what's going on and if there's some assistance or anything like that that you know programs that can be offered like let's let's figure out what's out there that we can go with. I >> mean because see my only thing is cuz I ain't never been here. >> Yeah. >> Like my first time being arrested they took me straight down to what was it? Mary County Jail. So like am I under arrest? Well, right now there's obviously an investigation going on. So, based off of that investigation, it's kind of pointing towards you. So, I would like to talk to you. I mean, and get an understanding of what's going on. That's that's why you're here right now. >> Yes. >> I mean, cuz me just taking you to jail, what what are we achieving out of that? >> Yeah. I mean, no one gets to hear your story and this is this is your chance to come out and say, "All right, look, if you made a mistake, I mean, I get that, you know, just let it be known." But if you choose not to talk and you just want to go the route, like nothing happened, but everything else is showing otherwise, then you know the judge, if you go to trial, jury is going to see all that. And again, you don't seem like that type of person. With the interrogator moving from a confrontational to a more empathetic approach, she leaned in, whether out of curiosity or as part of another sly maneuver. >> I mean, no one's perfect, and I get that. I mean, this is your opportunity to kind of explain that and come on up. Does that make sense? >> Yeah. >> So, tell me what's going on or what happened. >> Cuz they got you on video taking cash out of the register. So it doesn't show me it being on me. It just shows it me coming cuz I have >> regardless we have to drop money >> regardless. So I have to take cash out of there anyways every time we get big bills over big bills >> and we have to insert it and we have to do all the computer stuff anyways. >> Okay. >> So that's >> it's what I'm saying is they have video of you taking cash out of the register and then later put in your pocket. So there and then there's been multiple scans of cash donation under your name and other employees names. Uh but it's it's only you doing it on video and then later the cash is removed. Your pocket is pocketed and then the drawers are short that amount of money. >> So I'm pocketing the money. That's That's what they said to have you on video doing >> cuz I use the red things that the red brown things that the money go in normally when you put it in if you drop the money literally I write on those and everything. So that's what I'm saying. I use those and I do have like stuff that I don't wrote on that I don't put in my pocket and everything. But >> yeah, >> as far as like money, I don't have any money. >> Okay. All right. So, can you explain why your drawers are always short? >> I pro probably the way I rank stuff, I mean, cuz like I say, I'm fairly new. So, probably the way I run it in cuz now they got it where you have to have manager approval to do refunds and all that stuff. So, that's what I'm trying to understand. >> This is why I'm here, too. I'm I'm trying to figure out what's going on. >> Yeah. So I mean this is a story I'm getting from manager you know what I mean and >> obviously this video >> so it's it's like that's showing one thing and then you're saying another thing to see how it's like it's just not matching up. >> Yeah. >> So that's that's the confusion and that's what we're trying to figure out. >> Well I know I don't have no money. >> Okay. >> I if I but I don't have any money. >> Okay. So m so I I watched a video of one of the incidents. Okay. >> Um you didn't have any customer uh you would just have to register um by yourself you know watch you scan the barcode. It's like you entered uh information on the computer drawer open took out cash >> but see >> went off to the side. >> When I'm when I'm Oh >> went off to the side. Looks like you're counting some bills. Um, I believe I saw that vault where you were doing some drops and then you walked over and you put some cash in the paper bag >> and then later put the paper bag in your pocket. So, what happened to that cash that you put in the paper bag that you put in your pocket? >> I don't have no cash or nothing. That's what I'm saying. It it can literally easily be a cuz I also use them paper bags also to write on and I literally like I don't have no cash. If I had the cash I okay yes I got it whatever but I literally cuz it's the closest thing to me and the receipt papers you can't automatically just press the button and it come out you can write on it. I write on the brown ones a lot. So, I'm always putting that in my pocket. The ones that I write on, which when they just got me, I was writing on them, two of them, and yeah, >> writing what on on the back. >> I was just basically I had some bills to pay, but I was just making little notes on it, but I didn't bring anything. >> Up to this point, she had demonstrated that she leaned in whenever the inspector spoke, but maintained her distance when responding. a clear tactic to argue and deflect as she did with the previous paper bag question. Still, the officer was holding back more than he revealed. >> Okay. >> All right. >> But I don't have any money. Seriously, I don't have any money. >> So, but we we have you on video putting money in paper bag and putting a bag in your pocket. Like, I I literally just watched the video. So, you're you're telling me something, but I I watched something entirely different. And what day is this? >> Um, off top of my head, I don't know the date. Um, but again, I I literally just watched the video, >> sir. I don't have any money. >> Okay. >> I can't leave my kids. I can't leave my kids. Yes, ma'am. You want to ask me a question? >> Um, yes. Do you do you know what is going to happen? Because I have a my son is at home and he has a secondderee burn and I was supposed to have an appointment. >> Okay. Um, who's he at home with? >> He's at home with my grandmother right now. >> Okay. Um, how old is he? >> He's two. >> All right. Well, M. Um, to be honest, right now I have probable cause for your arrest. All right. Uh, based off the evidence, um, shows that you stole money from the business. Okay. Uh, so today you will be placed under arrest for organized fraud and grand theft. Um, you're currently on bond. >> Yes. >> All right. There's, again, there's a good possibility that you're going to be no bonded. Um it's and again I I try to speak to you, you know, I mean allow you an opportunity to come forward. Um but I'm just going to document, you know, our interview today. And again, all that information is going to be up to the judge uh during first appearance. You understand? >> Okay. >> All right. So just be patient and we'll get everything uh moving. Okay. In the end, she was charged with grand theft and organized fraud. While her dumb decision got what she rightly deserved, she was no match for Miss Pedro, a remarkably dumb employee whose motive behind a goods return scam stunned the officers and left them at a loss for words. >> I seemed like he started to manip manipulate me a little bit. >> Money what? >> Manipulate me. >> What does that mean? Basically, I always just um grab like items and then do like a return and just like do it on the credit card. >> So, each one of these customer names, they're not real customers. >> No, >> you made them up. >> Yes, sir. >> On March the 27th, 2023, Florida police were called to a local retail store after a shocking theft report. This time, not about shoplifterss, but an employee who had stolen over $5,000 through a string of internal transactions spanning several months. female employee. She's been with us since February or so. Um, yesterday was the last theft, but essentially what she she has three separate credit cards and she's been fraudulently credited them nine times for a total of about $4,600. So, what she do is she just grab a whole bunch of merchandise, bring it to the register, stick in her credit card, act like return the merchandise, but it didn't. I have a written statement of admission, and this is her admission statement. >> Okay? >> And I had her date and initial and date each theft. So, this is like the transaction that she stole. These are the transactions she told. This is the transaction. >> These are all the transactions. >> There's nine of them. And those are the dates of the announce on the >> And she claims that she did it because her boyfriend's afraid. >> Becca, she's 18. >> That's a felony. >> I know. >> So I told you guys are coming. I said, so Okay. Um, >> I don't know. I'm here tomorrow, too. So, >> can I read her admission? >> She was crediting returns of items onto her credit card. So, essentially paying herself >> like like for example like she she returned all these items like and then she bought them and then she would return them for herself >> like this customer name. She just put in a dummy customer name. I can see by the last name on the card that belongs to her. It actually prints out her name. So it's like Yeah, that's her name. You can put whatever she wants over here. But the car you can manually type in a name or something. >> No. Well, she she can manually type in that name, >> which really love. >> Yeah, that's the name she chose. >> Well, she used nine different names. Mostly Jones was the last name she used. But this >> so he's essentially this guy whoever this is is a little bit >> pressuring me to give him money or he will kill me. >> Right. >> Are you >> Yeah. >> After reviewing the documents, the officers knew they still had to hear the employees version because with a thorough and carefully planned investigation, they might uncover details the paperwork didn't reveal. I don't care. >> I don't care. I really don't. >> Yeah. What's your first name? >> A N D. >> A N D. >> Let me read you something. Do you have any questions about what I just read you? How long have you worked here? >> Few months. Like when were you hired? Um, like February. >> February. >> Do you remember like midFebruary, early February? >> I don't remember the exact date. >> Okay. How long have you lived in Florida? >> 4 months. >> 4 months. Okay. So, we got called here in reference to essentially a theft. Um, do you have any idea what the allegations are against you? >> Yes, I do. Um, he just told me prior to that I was coming here. >> Who's he? >> Oh, my >> Who is he to the store? >> I don't know. I think he's some guy. >> I'm go for it. Uh, okay. So, explain to me what happened. >> Um, basically I uh met this guy clearly just from here. Um, >> you met the you met a guy? >> Yeah. >> What's his name? >> Um, Miles. >> Miles? >> Yeah. M I L E. >> Um, >> M I L E S. >> Yes. >> What's Miles's last name? >> I don't know his last name. Um, >> how long have you known him? >> Since I've been in >> So, you've known him for 4 months and you don't know his last name? >> Yeah. Um, >> what's his phone number? >> What day is that? March what? >> March 18th. >> So, the last time you talked to him was over a week ago. >> Yeah. So, um, at first when I met him, everything was fine. I I >> Can you get that? I told him, "Miss here, blah blah." And like I seemed like he started to manip manipulate me a little bit. >> Money what? >> Manipulate me. >> What does that mean? >> Like you started to manipulate me. >> Oh, manipulate. Okay. I I thought you >> um like he wouldn't like hurt me, but like >> I'm still listening. um like he was just doing little little stuff to like make me afraid of him. >> I'm still listening. >> And then he told me that like oh like he needs some money like he needs some money or he's going to beat me or I gave him like all the money like I'll ask my parents all the time cuz they were the one taking care of me when I was there. I ask my parents all the time like to our little turn into a lot and like he's just like like it's either like you give me the money or like I'm going to beat you or like >> Has he ever beat you? >> The first time he tried to do that I just started screaming and yelling. >> Where did this happen at? >> Uh this happened like outside of like my apartment complex and that >> Who do you live with there? >> Um I have two roommates. >> So have the roommates met Miles? Um, no. No, no, no. They >> Have your parents met Miles? >> No, they don't know about that. >> Okay. So, how would you give him the money? >> So, he made me open like a a bank account and the account the name of the bank is called Funds at Credit Union. So, he made me open that up and then he's like, "Oh, just basically put the money in this account or if not you can put it on this special account." you he told me like open up. >> So you would transfer it from whatever credit card you use to refund yourself the money. >> Yes. >> From the close. >> Yeah. >> And you would transfer it to a cash app or the Sunset Credit Union? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> While the reason behind the employees dumb crime started to come to light, the officers knew there was still a lot left to uncover about the case. >> So if I pull up your bank account, it's going to show that. >> Yes, sir. Yeah. >> All right. Would Would you mind pulling your bank account up? >> And I'll also show you him telling me to open it up. >> Do you have his Instagram or his Facebook? >> Um, I have him on this app called Telegram. >> What the heck is Telegram? >> It's like a Slack or WhatsApp? >> It's not like pictures. >> No, it's it's a chat and messenger. >> All right, let me Can you show me his your >> Yeah, I am showing you him telling me to open the app. Just so you're aware, you don't have to show me anything on your phone. >> Oh, okay then. >> Okay. >> All right. >> I just don't want you to feel like I'm forcing you to show me. >> Okay. >> So, you don't want to show me? >> No. >> Okay, that's fine. >> Um, but your phone would be evidence, so I do need it because I'll write a search warrant for it and find the information out. All right. So he would transfer you would transfer the money to this Sunset Credit Card or Cash App. >> Yeah. And like sometimes like he was really good at getting to me and like I'm really good with people. So I'm like very nice. I'm very forgiving. So like he would like lend you some like some of the money just like justify it like you know like just to make sure like I'm in the right track and like I wouldn't snitch on him or anything like that. And Yeah. >> Is Pedro, how old are you? >> I'm 18, sir. >> You're 18. You ever been arrested before? >> Never. >> Never. All right. What was his name? >> Michael. >> Michael. Did Michael have you write a letter? >> Yes, sir. >> Is this the letter he had you write? Yes, sir. >> It is. Is that your name? Yes, sir. >> You sign this? Yes, sir. Okay. >> All right. So in this letter it says you started February 27th returning. >> Yeah. >> Returning clothes. >> That's the first date of um on the paper. >> Did you get to see these papers? >> Yes. Find these two as well. >> Oh, >> I got to see. >> There's one more. >> So the these are initials AP, right? Yeah. >> Those are your initials? Yes, sir. >> You did this? >> Yes, sir. >> For each one. I'm not going to go through all of them, but I think there's what? Nine. You said, >> "Okay, so nobody else did this but you." >> Yeah. >> How would this work? Cuz here Mr. Michael was trying to explain it to me, but I'm I'm I'm pretty slow and I don't understand things. >> Oh, okay. So, basically, >> I don't have a degree. So, >> um basically, I'll just um grab like items and then do like a return and just like do it on the credit card. That's how >> So if I wanted to do it, I just go in there, >> pick whatever I want to return. >> Mhm. >> I put my credit card in. >> Mhm. >> And then just charge the store back my the money >> onto my credit card. >> Yeah. >> But how do I make a customer name like Lily Love? >> Oh, it's just when you're done with the return, it just asks you like informations of like um the customers and you can just like the random name, random address. >> Okay. So each one of these customer names, they're not real customers. >> No sir. >> You made them up? >> No. >> Yes, sir. >> So how much money is in the Sunset Credit Union and or the Cash Up? >> How much money were you allowed to keep? >> Um like it depends on how like he'll be feeling like sometimes you'll be like, "Oh, cuz he he is a like a scammer so like >> Well, I mean you are too >> I guess so. Um, so he like I don't know. It just depends on like how much she wants the cut out of it. Like it's not like always like the same amount. >> Once he had thoroughly assessed her and her account, the officer offered his perspective, ensuring she understood the importance of picking her next words carefully. >> I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I think you're lying to me. I think you did this. I don't think there's miles. Because when I write a search warrant for your phone, I don't think it's going to show any of that. And when I when it gets presented to the court and it shows that you were lying, you're an adult. They're not going to have when the state attorney goes, "Yeah, she straight up lied to the officers the entire time." Okay. >> They're they're going to be more harsh on you. If that makes sense. So, is there a Miles? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. What does Miles look like? >> Because if this is actually happening what you're saying, too, then that's not acceptable either. >> But you don't know his last name. Your roommates have never seen him. What does he drive? >> He has a different car every time. >> Okay. >> I don't see. >> Okay. Did I miss anything? >> You stand up for me. >> She has to sign one more. >> This is the one we went we flipped through them. Uh, so just to speak for today's date, this is my name, date of birth, and the address that I would like to get mailed to. That's my business card. That's my personal address at home and the date of birth. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Also, would you like her um trespass from from here? >> Sure. >> Miss Pedro, stand up for me. >> Face the wall. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Your purse. Do you want it to go with you? >> Yes, sir. Okay. And all this jewelry too. You want to go with you to the jail. You don't want to call somebody for them. A lot of jewelry got >> Mom, brother. >> Miles. Miles. >> Miles. >> Um. >> After everything played out, she was charged with felony grand theft. Another mother of three, but far worse, was this employee whose use of cartons to conceal stolen goods was exposed during the theft. >> Do you have a receipt for this? >> I wasn't going to take that. >> Yes, you were. You put it all in the box and you were leaving with it. >> No, I wasn't going to take it. I was going to go back. So, you've already taken it past the regular. >> Put this down for now. They also said like a couple days after you got hired, they saw you putting a pair of underwear in your purse. Are you stealing these for Christmas presents? What's your deal? Why are you doing it is what I'm getting at. >> On November the 11th, 2021 in Athens, Georgia, police officers stayed in the background at a Walmart following multiple reports about employee Britany Fields, who had been repeatedly taking unpaid merchandise over the past few weeks. She often hid items in large boxes. And that day, loss prevention caught her stashing goods in the sporting section, prompting officers to step in. >> I need some help. Do you have a receipt for this? >> Yeah. >> That wasn't I wasn't take that. >> Yes, you were. You put it all in the box and you were leaving with it. >> No, I wasn't going to take it. I was going to go back. So, you've already taken it past the register. >> Put this down for now. I'm Detective Franco with the Athens closing at this time. >> We're going to go to the office and talk about this. >> Okay. >> Where's the office? >> Up front of the store. >> Where's that paper? >> You went out the door with it. >> I was going to go get my cord. >> You've done this several times. >> You don't already have it listed as you listen. This has obstruction. >> What? >> We'll talk about it. You put stuff in boxes like seven days in a row and took it. So, we'll talk about it all in a minute. >> Your name is Britney Fields, correct? >> 3369 Central. I'm out at Walmart in custody with a female shoplifting suspect. >> Get my phone. >> Yeah, I got it. You'll get your phone back. >> This one's hurting my arm. >> I'll check it when we get to the You got very little wrist. Those are barely even around your wrist. Well, maybe it's cuz you're pulling my arm. >> Well, I'm just I don't think you're going to run from me, but we'll get in the office and I'll check them. >> Yeah, I'm going to bring them. >> Okay. Well, you're being arrested for shoplifting today. I want to talk to you about the other incidents. Let's go down this way. So, >> are you going to go get a a mountain? Okay. >> Take a picture of everything, too. Have you ever even been arrested before? >> Savon Bondo Al Golf Hotel November 8th 11 98 black male. >> So I'm going to go to jail today. >> We'll talk about all that in a few minutes. Okay. I have three little girls. I don't need anything. >> We'll talk about it all. >> This is uh Beth. She's the assistant manager. I'll let her talk to you and I'll give you a chance to talk to me. But like I said, for now, you are in custody. >> So, this loss prevention office right here. All right, just have a seat on the bench. >> I'm going leave you with Emily from Loss Prevention. Let me check these. >> Yeah, this this one is tight. This one's fine. >> Your wrists are so small. I can barely even get them on you. >> Well, you see how it's like pinching my skin? >> What's your data? 369 central. Her date of birth name is going to Right. >> Check her criminal history. I don't think she has any. >> No, I don't. >> All right. >> The officers soon got down to business, asking questions designed to uncover deeper, more intricate details that only she knew. >> So, I'm going to put it to you like this. All right. Here. So, today, you know, she was watching you on the camera. and we were waiting there. So, we know what happened. We saw you staged that box there. We saw the stuff in it. So, we we know what you did today. Okay. >> But we have some evidence that you've done this other days as well. So, I want to talk to you about these incidents. But the way this works is since you're in handcuffs and you can't leave, since you're in custody, before I can talk to you, I have to make sure you understand your rights. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, I told you who I was. I'm Detective Franco from the police department. [Applause] >> Go ahead. >> Just so I'm clear, you want us to run a criminal history, correct? >> Yes. Run a criminal history on her. All right. [Applause] >> Cra, I'm going to be busy for a minute in interview. Um, you have the right to remain silent. Having these rights in mind, you wish to talk to me now? >> Yes. >> So, what's going on? Why are you taking stuff today? >> I don't know. >> Are you low on money? I mean, what's the deal? I mean, there's got to be a reason. >> No. I mean, >> I don't know. >> How many other times have you taken stuff? >> I don't know. >> All right. >> Do you do this regularly since you started working here? >> No. >> Okay. Well, this is 1029. So, this is a 29. >> I paid for >> pulled video. She said you didn't. >> You said >> they were $3. I paid for them. >> Where'd you pay for them at? Because she she's pulled video and said you didn't pay for any of that. >> Oh, I paid on the online pay thing. >> Okay. I I don't even know how you do that. You got to take them to a register. You can't >> You still have to go through the register for that. >> What do you mean online pay? There's no way to >> scan the app on your phone. >> You still have to go to the register to do that. >> Yeah, you got to do that to register. Okay, let's just go to the next one. This day, just like today, this was the first. >> Now, some of those boxes were empty, >> I promise. >> Well, she's So, >> every day that I pulled I have pictures here. They are not empty. >> All right. Well, so this day, let's see. That's you. You took a speaker this day. >> No, it's a it's a Wait, which is a coffee pot. >> The third. >> Wait, no, that's a that's cameras. That's a camera. >> Okay, >> that's not list. >> All right, so this is the fourth. Uh, I guess nothing that day. >> Let's see. No, there was nothing that day. All right. So, this day you took a Christmas tree. Uh, >> that I swear that was empty box. >> So, you're saying you just take empty boxes off? >> I saw you grab it off the shelf. >> She saw she saw you take it off the shelf. >> Okay. No, I know. That is the Christmas tree that Tyler gave to me. I paid for. It was two Christmas trees in it that Tyler gave to me half price because it was a display. >> Okay. Well, she says >> a video game controller. She saw you select a camera, a bunch of socks. >> Okay. Well, we'll have to we'll have to look at the video. Uh, an elf lladder. You walked out with that. >> Yeah, I paid for that. >> Where did you pay for that? >> At the garden center. Okay, let's see. Uh, this is on the 9th, which was two days ago. I don't think we got you with anything there. >> And this day, a bumper car. A $99 bumper car. >> That was yesterday. >> Yesterday. This was yesterday. So, that shouldn't be hard to remember. >> Yeah, I remember that. >> Did What happened there? Did you pay for that? >> No, I didn't pay for that. >> So, you're saying the only time you didn't pay was yesterday? >> Yes. The I swear the other things were empty boxes. Well, what where is the receipt from today? How much is it going to be today? So, >> the bumper car and not today. >> Well, here's here's my problem. If if you did it today, I mean, and you did the same thing, taking empty boxes out the other days. None of those had >> the guy in automotive helped me put the the empty boxes on my car the other day. I don't know his name. They were just empty boxes, I swear. Now, the bump car today. Yeah. No. >> So, when we watch back video, we're not going to find you putting anything in these boxes. >> I mean, I don't think so. >> So far, every question posed to her by the officers was calculated, each carrying subtle affirmation, and she clumsily tried to dodge them. At this point, Britney still had no idea what she had gotten herself into. >> Is there anything else you've taken besides yesterday and today that you want to admit to? I mean, this is just a receipt from today. That's everything you had in the box. It's $90. No. >> Do you want to do your interview with her? I mean, >> you pretty much already done it. So, >> all right. >> Do Do you want to see if she wants to write a statement? >> Pay all the stuff back. >> Do you want her to write a state? >> I can take they can take it out of my check. >> Yeah, you can write. >> Do you want to write a statement for Walmart about this incident? >> Yes. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to let you out of cuffs. You're still in custody. >> Okay. But I'm gonna let you if you want to if you want to write a statement for them about what happened. >> Yeah. Sorry. I've been going through a lot. >> So get up. I'm going take you out of cuffs for a minute. You can write this statement for them. >> Been in any kind of trouble with them. >> Okay. >> Well, I'll leave them off for a little bit. I don't think you're going to run. And if you do, I'm fairly certain I can catch you. I'm not I'm not very >> Go ahead and take that vest off as well. >> I'm pretty sure you're going to be fired as part of this. >> I mean, I would venture to say she's going to be fired. Correct. >> Pay it back. >> Is there anything of yours in this vest? >> Yeah. >> Take your stuff out of it. >> I mean, so there am I going to get arrested? >> Well, you are arrested right now. I haven't decided the rest of the part, but >> I mean, I'm just I've never been in any trouble and I would be glad to pay back the >> Well, unfortunately, that's not how it works. >> I I know that. >> All right. [Applause] All right, let me see what. Let's see. What's your address? Hold on. I'll get it. Just keep doing what you're doing. Let me grab my computer back. Scoot over for me, please. Science central, when you got another unit, if you'll send me one more. You still have a Yes, sir. I just if um going to jail, I need to call someone cuz I have three girls. >> Is there nobody? Are they out of school yet? >> Um they go to after school when I pick them up when I get off work. >> We'll we'll let you call somebody if we go that way. One of you want We need you to sign this. She's about to tell you you're barred. This says you're barred from here for 2 years. Okay. You want to tell her she's barred from the store? >> Barred 2 years. We see you as criminal trespassing strict. >> So you can't come to this Walmart for 2 years. There's a sign there that you know you're barred. >> So can't come here period. >> Nope. Not for any reason. >> Like even like sitting n of this can't come on the property. >> Wing hard can't for a long time. Okay. >> Are you done with that? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. 369 central. >> I need you to show barred from Walmart for a period of two years. >> I'm sorry. My radio was loaded. Did you say it was done? >> Yeah. I'm almost done with it. I've never been to any children. >> Yeah, I have to check. But you've never been arrested at all? >> Never been arrested. >> Okay. >> Never. >> Well, they So, this is for them. This is >> uh Let's see. Yeah, you got to sign and date it. Like I said, that's for Walmart. That's not for me. >> While Brittany assumed her questioning was finished, the officers still had other matters to verify. Disturbing details she had no idea anyone was aware of. I've never been to any kind of charges. >> Yeah, I have to check. But you've never been arrested at all? >> Never been arrested. >> Okay. >> Never. >> Well, they So, this is for them. This is >> uh Let's see. Yeah. You got to sign and date it. Like I said, that's for Walmart. That's not for me. They also said like a couple days after you got hired, they saw you putting a pair of underwear in your purse. >> Underwear? >> Something like that. What? >> I didn't even We don't even get We can't even bring a purse in. You weren't here with your kid. It was >> right before you started. >> Yeah. I had no idea. Go ahead. >> I worked to your >> Yeah. >> So, how do y'all deal with the termination? Do you just tell her now or Okay. I mean, that's on y'all. >> What's the name? >> 1111. >> So, obviously, you know, you're barred from here. So that means >> you're going to do you want me to sign as a witness? >> Beth and I don't know your name. >> Do you want me to me put money as a witness? >> I'm sorry. >> Or is that y'all? >> No. >> I will never ever. >> So you did it yesterday and you did it today, but you said all those other days you didn't take anything and those were all empty boxes. >> Yes. So I just want to ask you one thing. So, if you had if you had to pay back Walmart, how much do you think that it would be? You can just write that amount down there. How much you think that that would be? >> Um, >> how much do you think total you took? >> And here, look, I'm going to tell you I'm going to tell you >> the $99 card. >> Look, and here's the thing, too. You know, we're going to go back and review video. Are we going to go back through video and find you putting stuff in those boxes? if you've done it more than once. >> And you can see we have great video. >> She's been working on it. Of course, they they haven't had time to review every video, but all she has to do is sit in here if she needs to. And she can sit all day and review video. Are we going to find any more cases of you doing this? >> The more honest you are now, the less hard it's going to be >> because I don't want to let I don't want to have to take a whole bunch of arrest warrants on you that you don't know about. So, you get pulled over with your kids in the car and get taken to jail. >> Yeah. I don't want to go to jail. Have you done this any other time besides today and yesterday? >> The I know the pillows I paid for. >> How'd you pay for the pillows? >> I paid for them. I put them back there and I paid for them later. >> Where at a register? Cuz that's the only way you So you walk through a register. >> What's in this box? >> Underneath. >> That was yesterday. What's in this box? >> Nothing. That box is still in my car. There's nothing in there. I swear to God. >> Where is it in your car? Cuz I just went and looked in your car >> in the trunk. >> Oh. So why are you taking a bunch of new boxes? >> Cuz I was putting my Christmas stuff in them. >> What about this coffee maker? >> The coffee maker? >> Mhm. >> No, you didn't pay for it. >> No. Okay. What else is in this bag behind it? >> I have no idea. >> So you didn't pay for the coffee maker? >> No. >> Okay. Okay, so that's another item. >> Is there clothes in this bag with the elf thing? >> I know it's really hard to see. The day of the elf ladder. >> The No, not that wasn't elf ladder. The Christmas tree I paid for. You can ask Tyler that. >> We'll go back and check. The elf ladder or is it saying I climb? I think it's elf climbing the ladder. >> Um I don't know. >> They're $59. >> Yeah. >> Did you pay for it or not? >> No, not that. >> What about that? What's >> said? I don't one day now that might have been the day I had a t-shirt that I had took off at work and a cup. >> So it didn't pay for the elf ladder. No. Okay. >> The day with the Christmas tree. We're not even going to talk about the Christmas tree. We'll I'll confirm that later on. >> What about in this box? >> That box and back. >> There was nothing in that box. >> The bag. >> So what about the >> the socks was those $3 socks? >> Okay. So, what about the controller from electronics that you got out of the case? You went and asked somebody for keys. It was on your top car. There's a controller and a PS5 camera. >> Despite everything that she had confessed to, certain missing items were still unclaimed, and Brittany looked like the prime suspect. The officer switched tactics, laying out a new kind of bait, hoping this time she would spill more than she intended. >> I pulled the EVPM and showed you. I'm telling you, we have really good cameras. This I'm I'm seeing how honest you're going to be to see what I'm going to charge you with cuz we have we have the power of charging per case. >> Okay. >> So, >> that's why we said, >> like I said, the more honest you are, >> that's why we just want you to be honest so we can figure all this out because I mean, you're a stalker, right? Why would you be getting video game stuff? >> One day I helped someone when there was nobody in electronics. But you had somebody else open it. But you took the stuff and put it on your car. Did you take that video game controller home? >> The video controller? The PS5? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So that you didn't pay for that. >> No, but the game the game that she's talking about I that was for a customer that they got it. >> I got you. But the controller you took. >> And what about the camera thing? >> Yes. >> That you took that. But I swear the Christmas tree and those box those boxes are besides the bumper car. >> So, so far we got the bumper car thing and then we got the coffee maker. We got the video game stuff. >> Are you stealing these for Christmas presents? What's your deal? Why are you doing it is what I'm getting at. >> I'm just having a hard time with my three kids. Well, that doesn't make it right. >> Well, I understand. How old are your kids? >> Eight, six, and four. So, >> I think what she's wanting is you to estimate how much worth of stuff you took. >> Bever Road and Beverly. >> I thought you were talking. >> Do you know the camera? How much water? >> I'll be primary. >> But I mean, my whole next check or whatever. >> Well, they're not going to do that. That That's Did you Did you ever clock out? >> This is >> Did she ever clock out? >> No, I don't think so. Cuz you were going to wait till you got to your car. >> No, I clock out. I have to um You have to be in the store to clock out. >> They won't let you clock out. >> Putting the stuff in your car before you went to your before you bought down. >> Well, I had to come back in. >> This is all the stuff I'm talking about. >> All right. So, look at all >> Yeah. Now, some of that stuff is up there >> already on the top side part. >> Okay. But she says it looks like you walk around and select that stuff while while you're stalking throughout the day. >> Well, on my break. >> But then do you later put that stuff in the boxes? >> No. >> What do you do with it? >> Most time it gets left on the cart. >> I got you. >> Like the carts back there now. It's slap full with boxes and all that. >> How long have you worked here? >> How long? Like a month. >> Where did you work before this? I worked at the other Walmart on west side doing online grocery and then I did home healthcare [Applause] I got to get the soap and stuff from yesterday. >> Well, you can worry about all that later. >> I just got to remind myself like she was talking about health and beauty. Yeah, maybe. >> Once they had collected sufficient details regarding her offenses, the officers moved to have her confront the consequences of her actions. Let me get a few pieces of What's your phone number? >> That's weird. That's how our police number starts. 762. >> All right. What was your date of birth again? >> 7. Can I just walk and get in the car or you got any not going to run? >> Well, you got to be handcuffed. Here's what's going to happen. I need you to transport her for me. She is going to jail. >> She's done this like six days in a row. I'm just charging her with misdemeanor shoplifting, but based on doing it every day, she needs to go to jail, I think. >> So, you can take her whenever. I'll print it over there for you. Um, then she has to handcuff you. I'm sorry. It's just procedure. >> What about this stuff? >> I'll hold on to it. >> Yeah. and she'll turn it into jail. >> Thank you for being cooperative. I know it sucks, but you can't do this. And we, you know, unfortunately, we caught you. I mean, >> make better decisions. [Music] different. Are you married? >> So, you're a single mother. >> What color are your eyes? >> You're green, I think. >> Okay, >> Jack. So, >> well, she's got to check. Make sure you ain't got nothing hidden in there. >> Uh uh. >> What's in your back pocket? >> Oh, that's that's fine. >> All right. >> You didn't do a good job. >> I'll have it printed off over there for you in a minute. >> At the close of it all, she was charged with theft by shoplifting. Up next is Destiny, a dumb employee who thought swiping cash from the register in a store crawling with cameras was a genius move. >> So last night we you talked about yesterday what you took from the registers, right? Was over $1,000, right? Okay. He needs to know that. So in our discussion, we all we talked about the dollar amount, right? And she wrote a written statement of $3,000. Destiny could be seen clearly be seen um on camera popping open the register with the cash boy and removing cash, placing it in her friend's pocket. >> As the sun was preparing to set on January the 17th, 2023, police officers were called to a Home Depot regarding ongoing employee theft after the same dumb employee assumed thousands of dollars could disappear without anyone noticing. >> So, we have two situations. Which one are you here for? >> Uh the money. Yes, you're with me. >> So, she's admitted signing affidavit means she should take at least $3,000. >> You guys have the video footage of it. >> Every single >> Yeah, they did all the transactions. We actually thought it was more about five, but she made it to three. But I we have her back here. Um, we I have to notify our work anywhere and I would like to prosecute and I would like to walk around and cuss. >> I don't know. We'll see what we we're going to do here. I'm uh but most likely going to leave. >> We're going to go through this door so you're not glittering my whole place as well. >> These rights I just explained to you. >> Okay. So, when when did this start taking place? Do you remember? If you had to take an educated guess like was it like a month ago, couple weeks ago, >> few weeks ago? >> Few weeks ago. Okay. >> And so what were we doing a few weeks ago? >> How much? Okay. >> Are you a cashier or service? customer service. So, you're around the cashiers area, so you do take returns and take people, you check people out and stuff like that. Okay. It's been going on for a few weeks now. How how are we doing this? Like, explain to me so I can better better understand how how we went from working here to slightly taking some cash out at a time. thought process. I just did it. >> How How were we doing it though? >> I open the register. >> Were we checking someone out when we were doing it or were you just randomly go to the register, open it up, take out Were you taking out like $20 at a time or $100 at You were taking $100 out at a time every single time. Okay. So every single time you did it, you were taking money $100 out every single time. Okay. And how much would you say you you took from the tills? >> Over 2,000. Have you ever >> What did you do with the cash after you took the every time you took the hundred out? >> What were you using it on? >> I was going to use it for buy her. She just doesn't bought processors. >> I got you. So, you're taking the money for your grandma so you can spend it on her. Does your grandma take care of you and you thought it'd be nice to kind of treat her? >> It wasn't treat. She's just >> sick. >> She's sick. So, you're helping pay for medical bills or something or Yeah. Okay. Is there anything else that you can remember about when you took these took the $100 at a time? Were you taking them? Let's Let's focus on the money now. Were you taking like 20s or were you taking a $100 bill? So, it was a $100 bill every time. Okay. And you said it's up to 2,000. You took over $2,000. I know this is hard for you, Destiny, but I I need a verbal, okay? Or headshake or something. >> Okay. >> New message. >> Is there anything that you want to add to what you told me? >> To show that ordinary tears wouldn't get her out of this. The officer became more direct and asked more intricate questions, revealing details no one had expected. And was it, let me ask you this. When you were taking the money from the tills, was it only at the cashiers area? Did you go to any other tills and take them or? >> It was just, but where the department I work in. >> So, you just had customer service then? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Can I add something? Can I ask her a question? >> Absolutely. >> Okay. So, we just talked a few minutes ago, right? We talked about taking the cash from the registers. It was more than $100 each time, right? So, last night we you talked about yesterday what you took from the registers, right? Was over $1,000, right? Okay. He needs to know that. >> Oh, I I >> know you didn't understand what he said. Hundreds. >> Oh, so you were taking So, >> sorry. >> Let me let me break it down for you. So, let's say this is my my till, right? Up at customer service. I open it up and I took I'm just taking $100 out. >> I took more than >> You took more. Did you Now it was happening every time you did it. >> Yes. >> So you took up to you took all the hundreds out of the tills. Are you telling me? And that would add up to whatever amount that you took out of there. Do you remember what the fir the first time you did it? Do you remember what the total amount was that you took out? No. What do you remember any at any time how much you took out every time you went to the till? >> They're usually usually hundreds of two to four >> two to four. So we're talking couple hundred every time we took money out from the cashiers. Okay. >> So in our discussion we always we talked about the dollar amount, right? and she wrote a written statement of $3,000. Right. >> Okay. That's important to tell now. >> Okay. >> Do we have any of this money? Did it go into your bank account? Anything like that? You just kept all the cash. >> Do you still have any of that cash left? Anything that you've taken from Home Depot? >> You spent all of it. >> I would go back if I had it. >> I got you. And to be more descriptive, what were we spending it on for grandma? >> She I was just paying some of your stuff off. >> I'm sorry, what? >> Just paying some of her things off my >> What kind of What kind of things were you paying off? >> I don't know what bills specifically. I We've heard my uncle and my uncle wasn't doing anything for >> Okay. with some of it with some of my bills and then we've been waiting my uncle my grandfather passed away a year ago. So I've also wanted to help with the headston. >> Okay. They were helping pay for the headstones and medical bills the bills and headston. >> Okay. >> But mostly the bill. A conference questioning ended poorly and when the officer consulted her superiors for additional background, the situation took an unexpectedly darker twist. So, this has been going on a while. >> Um, she's been taking copious amounts of money. So, we have statements for you. We have video for you. Um, we have, you know, just a packet for you that CIT puts together. So once we get um two or three hits on this, we're send investigation team. >> They go in, they pull all the video, they pull everything that they need and they send you and then we go in and we um >> investigate it a little bit more. >> So she is young um cuz she was 19, so she's not a minor. Um do you do the diversion program >> uh for stuff like this? No. >> Okay. >> This is this is a felony amount. I'll be honest. >> She's going to probably leave in handcuffs. Well, that's what she should leave it. >> Yeah, absolutely. No, is what happens when you you steal cash from your business, >> you know, >> and and her not being truthful. She was truthful with us and not truthful with you. That's why. >> And I'll read all the statements. You put your hand down. All right. So, go ahead and from the best without looking through the folder and everything like that cuz I'll look through that. We'll go through that together in a little bit. But from the best of your knowledge, just tell me from the the start dates until what led up to today. >> Okay. So about I'd say a week and a half ago, I received an email from the central investigation team in regard to Destiny. We had cash shortages um competit you know every other day we had cash shortages. So once they did their investigation they determined that Destiny could be seen clearly be seen um on camera popping open the register with the cash boy and removing cash placing it in her pocket. Um at that point um they put the packet together. Um, we made an appointment to come and see her today. We sat down with her, discussed exactly what happened. She admitted to taking $3,000 worth of money from the registers, stated it was for her grandmother. Um, she's written a statement. Um, I've witnessed I have a statement and so does um the other witness and that's what happened. >> Okay. And you've never witnessed her anything like that, her taking actual money? >> No, not in not live. Just on video. >> Just on the video. Okay. And to your knowledge, she's been taking large sums of cash cash every time. >> Yes, sir. Yesterday we had a $1,200 shortage. And when I spoke to her about that today, she said yes, she did indeed. >> There were information that you can provide from the beginning to the end up to today. Uh just go ahead with it. >> Absolutely. So I was I proceeded to start looking at video start seeing what was going on. Um and then I was able to observe today um yesterday's transactions. So yesterday's transactions um um basically was the individual in question was at the register. She would start pacing back and forth, look around, look left, look right, then proceed to start um accessing the register without having a customer present. That's automatically red flag because there's no reason to touch the register if there's no one in front of you. >> Correct. Uh she proceeded to then uh with no explanation open the register uh reach in gra um several uh high dollar bills, place them in her palm and put it into the pocket of her apron or her front right pocket. Um this happened twice yesterday. Now uh part of that journal that that register gives you gives you an unexplained total dollar amount of how much money is missing from the registers. She impacted two different registers in the in her uh yesterday shift. Um one of them was $533 I believe and the second one was 1,2 change. >> So roughly yesterday she took about $1,800. >> If I had to guess, I would say approximation yes north of 1,500 less than 2,000. After meeting with her superiors, the officer returned to clarify crucial details with her, knowing that this would shape the direction of the case. >> You on on multiple occasions, okay, it seems like at least five different days, okay, you were seen on camera taking multiple Yeah. plethora of money from the tills. Okay. And I'm just I need to get an exact dollar amount. And someone who takes cash, they go home and count it. Okay. I know you went home and counted it. That's there's no if hands or buts about that. You did >> cuz you just didn't take the money and then go, "Oh, I'm just going to spend this." So, I need you with your to the best of your knowledge to just give me the best estimated number of how much money that you took. Are we talking like $3,000? >> How much? >> Three. >> Three. >> Cuz from what I'm seeing, we're talking more than that. >> I mean, alone yesterday, you took about $1,800. Okay. I think you know that. She went home and counted it probably last night, right? Okay. So, every other night, how much? And I know it's been months, but if you had to take the best guess possible, I mean, cuz one in one time, one one shift, you took 1,800. >> Okay. So, how much money are we talking about here? >> That was just one ship. That was the first time ever $1,000 in >> That was the first time you ever took over a thousand? >> Yes. That's cuz there's never been that much in the toe before. >> Okay. But if again, give me a ballpark number other than 3,000. I >> over four. >> Over four. Are we maybe more towards five? Possibly. >> Pro. Probably. >> Probably. Okay. Is it over five? Are you sure? You're 100% sure you did not take over $5,000? >> I'm I'm pretty sure. >> Okay. I'm not trying to push it, but >> but you know I you know that I know the you know the amount. Okay, I know that kind of sound a little bit confusing, >> but >> I know you know the amount of money that you took. It might not be the exact dollar, but so we're we're talking about five you took over well up to $5,000. >> Is that correct? >> Okay. Um um do you want to say anything to them about what you did about you know >> can I have her amend her statement written statement? >> There was three but I I agree to counter $2. >> You want to amend your statement and add five in there instead? >> Yes. >> Yeah, it's fine. I know you're not going to know the exact dates, but do you remember like what day of the week it was when you did it at least or anything like that? No, >> no, just whenever you were working. >> Not every shift. >> Not every shift, >> but just when you when you thought the clo the coast was clear and you were able to get into the tail without anyone seeing. >> Okay. So, if you haven't figured it out already, you are going to be placed under arrest. Okay. So, we are going to head down to the jail. You will be able to bond out. Okay. I'm um so what I'm going to have you do is you're going to walk out to my car with me. Okay? I won't cuff you in front of everybody out of respect. Okay? I'll save you the hum humil humidity or humidity humiliation. Okay? Because you're being pretty honest with me from the beginning. And I take that I take that with a great amount of respect. Okay? So you respect me, I respect you. Now, we try to run or get funny or do anything? >> I I have I have this cool Batman utility belt where I can use a lot of things that I don't want to use. Okay. >> It's fun. >> So, what we're going to do is I'm going to have you were going to walk in front of me. Okay. >> All right. You have nothing else in your pockets, right? >> No. >> Okay. >> Oh, I hope. >> What's up? >> All right. Leave that in your pocket. I'm talking like knives or anything like that. >> After all was over, she was charged with grand theft. That case was wild, but not as wild as a $1,075 gift card scheme that crashed head first into a felony. >> An employee what she was doing was scanning her phone, her cash app on her phone and entering funds. She also took a PlayStation gift card, loaded it, but never she was never putting money in the register. >> I made it to some things. He certainly will talk to you >> because of the amount. All right. It would be considered grand theft. All right. And it's a felony. >> On April the 17th, 2023, in the afternoon, officers rolled up to a dollar store after catching a dumb employee loading gift cards and sending them to personal accounts over and over. Asset protection had the receipts and the confession followed. >> I just text. >> You did? >> Yeah. >> Oh, my bad. I was on the phone. >> Yeah. I was asking if you were working today. >> What you doing? What you doing? >> Pretty much stole like $1,000. >> You want to talk to my last opportunity? She'll be a student. Excuse me. Mhm. [Music] >> Excuse me. >> So, it was just uh her accounting. Yeah. For counting in the money and then taking a little bit at a time or >> it was like a multiple. >> Hey, how you doing? >> How you doing? >> I'm Frank from Launch Prevention. >> Hey, Frank. They have an employee. What she was doing was scanning her phone, her cash app on her phone and and close the door. Yeah. And entering funds. She also took a PlayStation gift card, loaded it, but never never she was never putting money in the register. So she owed she she loaded $775. And then she also on this day, these are all the c this is all the cash. And then on this day, she let this customer walk out with $300 worth of merchandise. That's her right there. >> Um >> she now? >> Yeah, she's right there. She just walked. Okay. >> So, everything's on here and everything's on video for you. Here you go. >> Gotcha. And what's the total amount over time? >> 175. Is that her walking out? >> She's not living for >> $1,75 over time. >> Mhm. >> Might as well call her in. >> Come in. agree that >> she's been cooperative. She wasn't she hasn't been >> but wants to prosecute. So >> yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No problem. >> Stupid. >> I think they get what happens is we end up in a cash shortage. >> So we end up with a cash shortage. Okay. What happened to cash? It just doesn't walk. >> So we start going through and the first thing I tell them is look for uh gift cards. Look for gift cards. look for U cash app. >> Sure enough, she was she had her phone down below the register so she would pick it up, hit it, and then enter the number whatever she wanted. >> Gotcha. >> But no money would ever go in the register. >> Is that what she did on multiple transaction? And then the one time she let somebody walk out with $300. Okay. >> Except everything was cash app except this one, which was the >> the one sale. >> So that's a PlayStation gift card. >> Okay. for 75 bucks. >> Yeah. >> Gotcha. >> She wanted some money for her PlayStation. >> Gotcha. She just straight up took that, right? >> Yep. >> Okay. So, loaded it and then pretty much took it. [Applause] >> You see she's right here. >> Without wasting time, the suspect was called in for an interview. One that spilled far more than the officer ever expected. I'll move out of the way. Too many people make up. >> What's up, bro? >> I want you to have got you something. >> Huh? Well, you know, that's not my call. You know, I mean, you own up to some things. You have a conversation with them. You know that's totally up to them. >> Who do you want? >> That's totally up to them. Not me at this point. All right. Now, let me just read you this very quick. Right. >> All right. Required to warn you before you make any statements that the following constitution was right. If I ask you if you understand just yes or no. I can clarify it. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Okay. All right. So, what's going on? So, they gave me a list of these transactions. All right. >> Yeah, I told him I paid it back. I told him, "Well, I made it to some things." He said, "We need to talk to you about maybe you can give me a court date or something." >> What's What I mean, did you need money or were you What was going on? I met the dude walk out with a lot of stuff. >> Yeah, he told me about that. I think it was like 300 something dollars, right? >> Okay. >> Cash up. >> Okay. What happened with the cash up? Walk me through that. >> I did like $200. >> 200. How many separate transactions you do? >> Like did you cuz there's a couple different There's a green dot. There's a spin wheel. >> Yeah. My bad. Spin wheels for 200. >> Okay. And then he did a green dot. And then what's this? >> What is that? >> Valid direct. There's another transaction for like $200 on the 14th. >> Okay. Cash app. >> Cash app. And how does that work? Like with I'm not familiar with cash app. So is it just an app? You scan the card and it goes >> Okay. And it just goes on your phone. So you would just >> you would just load it with however much you want it and then you just scan it and then go into your account. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And then as far as the um as far as the different times where you let the person walk out, did you know the person or how did that work out? >> No, no, I just use a friend like just when I need to get apartment. Gotcha. So they just ring up a bunch of stuff and then how does it work? They just walk out or >> they just ring some stuff up and walk out. >> Okay. So >> the other room was probably like, you know, it was a boy that knew me. >> Mhm. And he he was getting some stuff. I said, "No, he's still >> Okay. And that was on one occasion, right? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Did you know at any point that what you were doing were wrong? I mean, did you think about it or >> Yeah, that's why I put it that's how I stopped. >> This this your job, bro. I mean, you know, it's how you make your money. You know, that that cash app scan that's temporary. You know, that 200 then that's going to Obviously, you going to hold it over your head that one day, damn, they might catch me. >> You know, ain't nothing like a steady paycheck when you getting your money the right way. >> What do you think they going to do? >> Um, let me ask. I think the other guy was the >> Let me see. >> She She was She wrote the statement as well. Yeah, she she >> um >> your uncle's out there, too. >> She admitted to everything. >> My uncle. >> Your uncle? I don't know. You said it was she was your uncle. >> Yeah. So, um the M What was the again, brother? >> 1075. >> Once her confession lines up with the evidence, the officer moves straight to the part where reality bites. >> So, this is the way it works. All right. and it's totally in their hands, but they're wanting to file charges. Okay. Because of the amount, all right, it would be considered grand theft. All right. And it's a felony, so you'd have to be taken in. So >> injuries gateway in Congress, northbound lane, >> you >> 36y old female pregnant wants to be checked out. He would have to be obviously taken to the county jail and >> arraign and stuff like that only because of the amount. Okay. >> At this point tomorrow or go to court tomorrow. >> I don't know. I don't really know how the bonds and stuff work. >> Sometime you may get out on O. Sometimes you might have to go see a judge the next day. I'm not sure. I mean you don't really have a record. >> So I mean you may be able to just bond out today >> tonight. Yeah. So, >> I hope so. I'm not going to be >> She's a She's never been She's not has no prior, so it'll probably be withheld and just pay restitution and go to the >> ship >> the uh the program. So, >> you you'll be uh you'll be okay. >> Yeah. I just don't. >> All right. >> Unfortunately, that's what my boss said, so I can't go against him. I got all your information. You got a card? >> No, I don't. I'll give it to you. >> Just put Yeah, I'll write it on. >> Well, actually put on a blank piece of paper. >> Do I have to go down to the police station and take the towel? >> Yeah, that's where we process and do everything at this. >> No problem. All right. Um, handcuffs out there or >> the car. >> All right. I'm trying to take off now. I run past I don't want to embarrass you. No, >> you wanted you wanted >> your uncle. I got it right here. >> Is that your uncle's? Yeah. Also, you got realiz Yeah. >> All right. >> Uh, I doubt you'll be in that how long, you know? >> Yeah. >> I highly doubt it. >> Just hurry up in here. >> I know. Everybody get nosy and stuff. You see that? That's what everybody want to walk their dogs and come outside. Listen, just learn from this, Mr. >> You're still here. >> Y'all can't put in the chance program. >> That's good. >> Y'all can't put in the chance program. >> I don't know. >> That's what he said. He said, um, he said he >> just check your pockets. >> I'm not going to terminate. >> I got whatever. >> Uh, just a phone number. disappoint. >> Okay. All right. I see you. >> All right. >> Oh, I move my shirt. >> Uh, just random stuff over there. You good? Thank you. >> What's up, man? >> Yeah. >> Uh, 1,00 something. That might >> But if I don't have no record or nothing like >> do you think I'm going to get O? >> You might to be honest. You might. >> And for that bond, they have to pay that bond by tonight. >> Yeah. >> After all was said and done, she was charged with organized fraud. Our next case takes us to Florida where a dumb Winnie Dixie cashier upped the game by stealing $11,000 in lottery tickets and causing a $10,000 overpayment. She thought she had it all figured out until it backfired. >> It's not more like you just stole a candy bar. Okay, I guess there's a question about almost $11,000 worth of lottery tickets over. >> Okay, >> stop pulling from me. Hang on. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> On November the 8th, 2022, Florida police received a call from a Wind Dixie manager reporting an employee was later identified as Bird caught rigging the lottery system. When they arrived, they started talking to the manager to get the full story. But what they were about to hear, well, they weren't ready for it. [Music] >> All right. So, what's happening is we have an associate. Um, okay. We started seeing some lottery shortage over here. For instance, ticketing online. >> Um, it started back around beginning of July. Um, and it's gone on to present. So, >> since July's next sliding lottery card, >> lottery cards playing online tickets. >> Yes. >> Okay. You want to go back in there for real quick? >> Can you tell me what's going on? I can try to >> I don't know what's going on so I can I don't want my kids stuck out the door. >> I know. Well, we don't I don't know what's going on yet. So, let me talk to him and we'll go from there. >> Um, so have her on video, you know, selecting chickens mainly at the liquor store. she would just scratch the bottom to see if they're a win or not, discard them if they weren't, uh catch them if they were. And there's also another process on the cash register to go where um like if somebody brings up a winning ticket, we can key in into lottery redemption and then put in the dollar amount, then we can pay that out. Well, she figured out that she could do that even without a winning ticket and everything still balanced on the back end in our world. But then when we got the bill from lottery, then obviously we were like, "Okay, well, we paid out more redemptions than what we received." >> And so that's when all this started to unfold. >> Um so we're looking at um total that I can prove that she >> was $10,653 something like that during that time. >> Every on video, >> every on video, I got it all on a thumb drive for you. Everything on video, I've got the R report that shows our redemptions on our register and then the all of the redemptions on the Florida lottery terminal. Since we don't own that, I had to get that through the state. And that shows everything of what ticket she scan, what the value is on an Excel spreadsheet. So that's how login for her information. Doesn't matter. The machine is a machine. Anybody >> the machine's a machine, anybody can do it, but it's her scheduled shift. Uh and obviously on video, she's the only one at the liquor store cuz we usually only work one person at the liquor store at some point. So, so basically she's been taking lottery tickets, scan the bottom if they're winners or not. If they're not winners, they don't win. If they are winners, she scans them, takes money, and she found a way to get to make a lottery ticket away every time. It's been going on since July. They have a draft full of all the started July 2nd, I think, was the first day that we discovered it. is um so do you have like date and times written out? Do you have anything written out yet or no? >> Everything's on that thumb drive as far as it's supposed to go proceeds. >> So she's basically taking lottery tickets, scanning them. Don't they have to be activated? >> They're all active because they're all, you know, for gameplay. >> She knew it was only a matter of time before her little secret came out, but until then, she decided to play the victim and keep up a good act. decent mine. >> Sir, I didn't know what's going on for coffee. >> I will tell you. We're trying to figure that out. I'm trying to figure out what I have. Okay. I'm going to figure out if we're taking a not taking a job. >> Well, I have to go cuz >> I will let you know. Once I know, I will let you know. Okay. So, can you sit down for me? >> My kids. I have a seven-month old and a child that's in school right now having asthma attack. >> So, let them figure out what's going on. >> Just take a seat for me. They'll figure it out. You know, will you? >> So, I just can't just go home. >> Why? >> Because the allegations I guess we have going on against going to investigating this all. >> Okay. Well, now that they did their investigation, now they could tell us what they have going on. >> Say he had to talk to somebody else to finish going on and see what's going on. >> Well, they're providing us a verbal statement of what's been going on since July. Okay. So, we It's not more like you just stole a candy bar. Okay. I guess there's a question about almost $11,000 worth of lottery tickets over00. >> Okay. So, explain. >> So, yes, we're going to go. Hey, >> is that something you got? >> You want to You want that back or >> She's right. >> Okay. >> The officer turned back to the manager, fully aware she was just trying to stall, but it didn't matter. who are getting to the bottom of this whether she likes it or not. >> They do instant redemption as a as a handy and then they put $30, we give you 30 bucks, >> right? >> Well, everything balances in our world until the state, which we only get quarterly. The state send us a bill that says, "Hey, >> you actually overpaid. >> We overpaid. We overpaid the redemption because she figured out that she could just do that instant lottery redemption for no ticket and get whatever money she wanted out of >> a fake. Correct. Or no winner or loser having a ticket. Not even having a ticket. She just goes and goes in lottery redemptions. $100 $100 ticket. >> Correct. >> You can just computerized. Is that normal practice? 17 15. >> In my 15 years here, I've never had somebody figure that part out that they could just do it without actually. >> So, obviously something on our back end that might need to be addressed, but >> they gave her that opportunity. >> Okay. >> And then she plays some online stuff, too. I mean, the online's probably a couple hundred bucks, but the rest is adds up to the, you know, $10,600 something. >> Okay. Do you have a print out of >> I didn't print it out cuz it was just so big. I mean these reports are that you uh USB that you have. What is on it? >> I've got all the video um reviewing all this stuff. I have all the receipts >> video security. >> Yeah, security video time. >> Yeah, time stamp dated. Um I have one file that has all the video, one file that has um You okay? >> After hearing what she had done, the officer's suspicion only grew. They decided to keep a close eye on her just in case she tried something even dumber than she already had. But they're about to find out that she had plans of her own. >> Scared the hell out of me. >> How long? >> Huh? >> You been out here? >> I just saw that she got up over there and you moved back. So >> she jumped cuz she told me to make a phone call. >> All right. So I'm trying to think of who can I call to get my kids. take care of me. >> Her children are about to get out of school. So, she was >> But I do need to stay. >> That's what I'm trying to figure out cuz people might be able to make sure. >> So, I'm trying to think who went around my house. >> I would I will try to figure it out. >> That's what I'm trying. >> So, while we're doing figuring out stuff here so you figure out what's going on. >> So, you actually stated that they were just talking to me about this two months ago. >> I will gladly ask you. Don't worry about that. But I'm telling you right now, I'm going to be talking with them. We're going to figure out what we have going on. you have until by the time we come in here and talk to you about what's going on if you figure out a ride for your family for your kids and stuff. >> There's a possibility. >> Why? >> Because apparently you stole almost $11,000 >> and like the Cory and Charles that run this store had a conversation with me and they woke me up. >> But let me like I said, let me figure out what they have over here. Just get somebody to see if they can pick your kids up just in case if you do happen to go to jail. >> Think I'm trying to think who can I call. My family don't stay here. They say it's Georgia. Okay. Well, you need to figure out a family friend or somebody or else I can call my friends with child protection services. >> So, can I call y'all um one of the police officers that used to work with you guys? >> Used to or does charge and tell you about the meeting we had? >> Hang on. >> See, now he don't want to say nothing >> cuz he's talking with us. I told you he just can't interrupt. We're talking now. So, figure out what you're doing. Figure out something with your kids. Okay. >> Can she walk me in the bathroom? No, >> I'm peeing like >> No, >> she's walking with me. >> No, you're not going anywhere. >> I can't even go pee. >> No, you cannot go pee. >> How do I supposed to use the bathroom? >> It's either you make phone calls now for somebody to get your kids. Okay, I'm helping you that or I put you in handcuffs and we just go. >> No, we're not doing that. >> So, can you We have to listen to >> It's mine. You're You're in my custody right now. You're not free to go. You're under investigative detention right now. Okay. >> You know what that mean? >> I also want to talk to >> Okay. Okay. >> So, what was the question? >> Just the extra total amount. See, we can just put [Music] >> If a police stand in front of me, they could they could deny me to use the restroom. You got to tell them why we're in front of you. You're making accusations of you stealing $11,000 from Lind Dixie. >> Say it again. >> Okay. Because with when I started back over here, he's saying that um $11,000 worth of lotto I took. So the police stand here. I have to pee. Like I'm bleeding. Like he telling me no, I cannot call. I just asked him. He said, "No, she can't even go with me." He said, "I have to stand here." >> Come. >> Yes. >> Just for that emo to that emo right there. >> Yeah. >> T3. >> She said if a female go me, I should be able to go. >> It has to be law enforcement. >> Y'all can't stand at the door. Ain't no bathroom. Do you have a I need a female officer back there. >> Oh my gosh. >> No. The thing is I'm having a female officer come here and trying to search you prior to you going to the bathroom. >> No, she can search. You want me to take it in my pocket? No, I'm going open my clothes. >> That's what's in my pocket. >> You're fine. But now >> the only thing in here is milk and it's less. >> No, you are fine. Okay. >> He's saying no. I said can't go. >> Well, why don't you ask her see if she will um go pick up your little ones just in case you do have to come up with >> I can't hear you. [Music] >> Okay. >> She said the same thing you said. >> What? >> I'm sorry. When the police say something to me, I'll call somebody used to work for. >> Despite the overwhelming evidence against her, she continued to play the victim card. What better to get out of the mess than to pretend that she had no clue about the accusation? >> She said as long as it's a female officer, I can go. Other than that, if it's a male, I cannot go. I have to sit here and hold my >> correct. >> So, Mr. Arch, >> so they didn't tell you about the write up they gave you for that? >> What's that? >> They didn't tell you about the write up that the whole conversation you had in here cuz I had it with Charles. >> That's fine. I mean, >> but this is about the same thing you just talked about. >> Correct. cuz at that point we didn't we didn't know where the loss was coming from. >> He said the lot he said he said the lotto the lotto is messing up. So you whatever you're doing you needs to stop. He said cuz it's a a lot of money for that and then after that it was another one for the upstairs. She really thought she was being slick, refusing to cooperate with the officers and playing dumb, but she had no idea the officers were about to hit her with a move she would not see coming. >> Apparently, apparently 3 days ago, lottery police got contacted by Wixie about it. They compiled all the paperwork and all like the files and everything for Windixie. So, there's a PDF up here with like tons of information on it about video surveillance. I guess each actual um scratch off ticket, dates, times, money value. I mean, we're going like 11 grand over five months, man. I mean, that that's >> Yeah, >> that that's that's that's corporate problem. >> Well, it's theft. It's grand >> theft. William has their own corporate that investigates like this. >> Yeah. >> You wait 5 months to do this. Well, they just knew about it 3 weeks ago because they got alerted by the state regarding I guess basically they sent a summary or whatever and I guess they said like oh you're you're over this amount because basically each ticket has a value. So she would go in just go to the computer and take money out without scanning a ticket. So that they hit >> and then I guess that when they found out about it they started investigating it. Contact the lottery police sent him all the information. Um, I guess he just got the rest of the information. I don't know, yesterday, today, or 2 days ago. And then I guess, uh, she's here, so nobody's talked to her yet. Um, I guess lottery police said that they have too high of a workload that they're not going to come take this. And it's just simple grand theft. And if you need him to come to the station to uh, go this way to explain all the paperwork and how to read it and all this other kind of stuff, >> they've been helpful already. So, >> he'd be more than happy to come do. I appreciate that. Like I don't understand why they just don't do it, but whatever. >> So, I just need you to fill out a statement form. Basically, just put your information here. >> Okay. >> Down here, put her information. Okay. >> And then, let's just make this the easy way. So, on the statement form, just write um on this date at this time, I was informed of XYZ. Um, >> you begin an investigation which you ultimately determine that from this month, this day to this month, this day, employee X was doing XYZ. Um, you contact the lottery police. Uh, they went ahead and sent you over all the files as far as video, dates, times. I'm assuming the the transactions >> yeah like all the video and all the register transaction was from us and then I had to go through the state to get the for the the lottery their lottery terminal reports and that's what I contacted >> the scans of the actual scans right >> and then just say you got all that information um just say that um it has been determined that the total amount of of of theft from um >> you know business or whatever is x amount of dollars um and then just put in there that you wish to pursue charges. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Okay. Cool. >> I mean, that's >> I mean, we don't have to go too deep into yours, >> right? I mean, I mean, everything's on the thumb drive, so >> I know it's going to take some time to do day by day and each time and a lot. >> That's what I was going to say. It's probably going to be she depending on she says her. If she doesn't like that, then we'll probably release her while we continue to work the investigation because it sounds like it's kind of in depth for months, right? So, um, and once we arrest, the state has 33 33 days to file those charges. So, if we can't really make sense of it for them, then they're going to drop it. >> Obviously, the only thing I'm worried about is restitution. So, obviously, I have to go through the prosecution part to get that. >> So, is it is it Windex that's at a loss or is it for the lottery? >> I'm at a loss for the value of the tickets. >> Now, the cases that I've worked for in the past is we'll prosecute for the value of the tickets cuz that's my loss. And then the state goes after that person for the winnings of those fraud tickets. >> Okay? Okay. >> So that's what usually happens. >> That's even more in depth for for lottery. Yeah. >> Yeah. What's the total value for the almost >> for my loss is 10,000. Yeah. 10 10653 >> for the uh just >> for the tickets. Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Then the value for the day is probably going to be triple that probably. >> Yeah. Depending on what you >> Yeah. So like I said just on that just kind of like just this date you found out about this you began an investigation and you know just kind of the format of it cuz I I likely I'll be I'll be doing the initial just a brief. >> She had plenty of chances to come clean but she refused to budge. Now the officers were done playing games. The detectives were now involved and it was time to get straight to the point. If she confessed there was no doubt she'd face the consequences. Who do you want to do an interview? >> I don't really have a lot of knowledge, but I'll give a shot. Just understand. I just want >> What was your What was your I know your your last name is Bird. What was your first name again, ma'am? >> You can read my my man from jail. >> I didn't say that. But in order for me to speak to you, okay, because you are detained, okay, because we are doing an investigation, in order for me to legally speak to you, I have to read you your Miranda warning. Somebody said you're going to jail, okay? But I have to read these to you, okay? So, what was your first name? >> It states that the Constitution requires that inform you that you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be used in court is evidence against you. You are entitled to talk to an attorney now or have him or her present now or anytime during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you without cost. If you desire to consult with an attorney first or have her during the interview, just speak up at any time. If at any time hereafter you wish to remain silent or have an attorney presence, all questions will be stopped. Do you understand your rights? You you willing to speak to me? >> Go ahead. >> Okay. Is that a yes? >> Is that a yes? >> Okay. >> She finally admitted it. She'd been taking lotto tickets without paying for about 2 months. She even explained how she'd scratch them off, cash in the winners, and toss the losers. Her reason, she needed money for milk and baby supplies. But that excuse wasn't going to cut it. And she definitely wasn't getting away with it. >> Bring that later. I don't even need it. >> Can you go out the door? >> I got to do it here. >> I don't need Stephen. I >> Okay. Well, I'm trying to find like you're like this. Like you're >> Stop pulling from me. Hang on. >> Please put your hand behind your back. >> Stop pulling. Do you understand that? >> I don't walk down the stairs. >> Doesn't matter. You're pulling from me. >> You don't that I don't tell you to do. Do you understand that? >> Do the car. I'm not happy. >> In the end, she was convicted of felony grand theft and sentenced to 2 years of probation. But she couldn't stay out of trouble. She violated her probation and ended up serving 8 months in prison. Next up is a freshly promoted employee who dumbly decided leveling up meant raiding multiple registers she was trusted to oversee. noticed on camera that you were uh responsible for going from register to register and taking the money out of the drawer. You didn't do that. Okay. So, why would the video footage show you doing that? >> There wasn't way to do this, like walking out of a store. >> Unfortunately, though, >> on the 1st of August 2023, officers were called to a target after a woman who had recently been promoted to a manager position stole money from multiple registers she was responsible for. She never thought she'd get caught, but with $2,000 missing in a single day, the situation proved too obvious, and cameras captured her every move. Police first examined the footage to confirm the suspicions, uncovering a trail of evidence that left no doubt about her involvement. >> So, we're looking at ones, 5, 10, 20s, 50s, and hundreds are in the last room. It's a a little bit more video cuz I got the whole process. But >> so you combine the 50s and hundreds in the far right. Mhm. Is >> that how every register is supposed to be? >> That's the standard. Yeah. [Music] What she does is she takes all the money out of the register. Um and while she has it all out, she fans it all out. And then you can see the left side which the larger bills are cuz she's setting it up that way. She'll take multiple what looks like on the low end to be three. >> Okay. >> So, we went with three. >> Now, is this common for a cashier to sit here and pull all the money out at the cash register and count it and then >> typically they should just take it all out. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, and put it in one of those bags. >> So, they're not usually counting it at the register. >> They don't count at the register. We have a cash office and a machine that counts it. >> It was finally time for the officer to confront the employee about her theft. The confrontation did not go as she had hoped. >> My name's Officer Kelly. I work for West Palm Beach Police Department. I'm sure you're aware of why we're here because they told me that they had spoken to you about it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, but first off, before I start, I have to read you your rights. It doesn't mean you're under arrest. It just something I have to do before I ask you any questions. Okay. Have you ever heard of the Miranda warnings? >> Okay. I'm going to read them to you after each one that I read to you. I just need you to give me a verbal yes or no if you understand it. If you don't understand it, I'll go ahead and explain it to you. Okay. >> All right. You have the right to remain silent, not answer any questions. Do you understand that? You have the right to the presence of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement ending any question. You understand that? >> Okay. >> You cannot afford a lawyer. You're entitled to the presence of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement enduring any question. Do you understand that? >> Mhm. >> Any statement can and may be used against you in the court of law. Do you understand that? >> Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You understand that? >> Mhm. At any time during the interview, you do not wish to answer any questions, your privilege, or any sound. You understand that? >> I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be of your own free will. Do you understand that? Okay. >> I'm just going to have you sign the back of this here states that I read you your rights and that you understand your rights. >> Does it say that on there? >> No, but you verbally told me. >> So, I know that that's what the signature is for. >> Yeah, that is what it was for. That's not an admission of guil just stating that originally. All right. So, as I spoke to your colleagues there, um they basically in the >> they're accusing you of taking in unknown amount of money at this point. Somewhere close to the range of $1,400. Do you know anything about this at all? No. >> Okay. Um how long have you worked here for? >> Almost 3 years. >> Okay. And you've had no other issues like this within the last 3 years, correct? Um I noticed on camera that you were uh responsible for going from register to register and taking the money out of the drawer. Is that a common practice of yours? Okay. And what is included in that practice? What what do you do? Can you explain to me? >> So I am taking the money from the day out and putting new money for the next day. >> Okay. And when you take the money out, do you count it or anything like that? So you just >> So how would you take it out of the drawers? Just take it out, put in the red or green bag, and then put the next bag into the >> Okay. So, you basically just go from each money slot, pull it out, place it in a bag, don't look at it or anything, >> right? >> I fix it up if I need to prove it. >> So, if it's out of order or something, you'll you'll fix it up. >> Okay. >> Would there be any reason why you would roll up money? >> No. >> Okay. So, you wouldn't roll it in to any kind of like money roller and then put a rubber band over it or anything? >> No. She didn't put up much of a fight, meaning she knew she was guilty. The suspect denied all involvement in the theft. Little did she know that her denials were futile as evidence stacked up against her. >> So, when I was watching the video footage, it's pretty clear that it was that it's what you were doing, rolling it into a money roll, placing a rubber band over it, and then placing it on top of the desk. Why would you be doing that? >> You didn't do that. Okay. So, why would the video footage show you doing that? You see where I'm at here, right? I'm watching a video footage that's unedited from the department store who has no reason to accuse you of this. >> I don't know if it's unedited, but I have never done anything like that. >> Okay. Is there anything else you'd like to add to this? >> All right. So, Mr. Janine, based off the video evidence and uh the statements made by your co-workers, I'm going to be taking you to jail tonight. Is there anything on your person that might poke or stick me? >> Okay. Can you stand up for me, please? [Music] >> What is going to happen with my items? >> Uh, they're going to go with you to jail. Okay. Can you take this jacket off? [Music] >> When do I get to speak to a lawyer? >> Um, that will be after processing. So, once you get crossed into the jail, processed into the jail, then you'll have an opportunity to call whenever you'd like. It's like your jacket. >> This is >> No, that's okay. The jacket's yours. >> Yeah. >> Chris, do you mind grabbing that? >> Yeah. >> Is there no other pleasant way to do this? Like walking out of the store? >> Unfortunately though, cuz uh once you're in our custody, we have to place you in handcuffs in case you try to run away. We've had people run away and their head. So, it's a liability thing. So, we have to detain you like this, unfortunately. And you guys are walking out of side doors. I'm assuming >> if there is a side door available, you can do that. So, however, our cars are parked at the front. So, >> I I know you guys know the fire emergency doors or whatever. >> I've actually never been to them. So, >> especially we don't go downstairs either. >> Really embarrassing. They're going to be embarrassed after they are proven wrong. And let's see. >> Okay, >> I'll just walk with you. Can one of you guys lead us out? >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> With no other way out of the store, she had to walk the walk of shame and embarrass herself in front of her co-workers. Just make sure nothing. >> Am I just leaning against the park? >> Put your loose on the left side. >> Left side. >> Yeah. >> Is it because it's caught in your hair band, do you think? Or is it >> Let me take this. >> It's okay. I'm going to reach around you and I'm going to put the seat belt on. Okay. Actually, I'll wait because I have a female officer that's going to come and do a thorough search on you. Um, I'm going to drive you to the back over there so we're not doing all this right after. In the end, the suspect was charged with theft.
