This is Escambia County Sheriff's Office. I got a friend there. All right, internet. I'm Frank Slope. I'm a 24-year deputy sheriff. Currently still on the job. Today, what we're going to do, we're going to check out some body cam breakdown. So, we're going to play body cam bingo. [cheering] Got a good card. Got some great options on here. So, we'll see how we're doing it. Body cam files is where we found this video. They're they're old school. They're OG. We've used them before. They've put great stuff out and uh we've got a lot of promise for this one. So, let's check it out. >> Hello. How's everybody doing? >> Good. How are you >> doing? Good. You're being pulled over. He's got no tail lights on. >> Got to have those tail lights. >> No tail lights like the lights. Hey, can I see your driver's license? Restoration insurance? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> You have ID on you, ma'am? Um, my purse is in my trunk. >> Okay. >> With my ID for my life. >> Okay. What's your name? >> Jennifer. >> You're the owner of the car? >> I am. >> Okay. What about the proof of insurance for the car? >> Um, it's on my phone. >> It's on your phone? >> Yeah. Can you pull up? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> You go down the back window for me, too, please. No ability to multitask. I love what this officer is doing in seeing if this driver can do two things at the same time. Hey, can you give me your insurance card? And hey, can you put that back window down? And she's so focused on the first thing he said, which was, hey, I need that insurance card. That she doesn't put the back window down. That divided attention is something that gets impaired by alcohol consumption. So all of the tests that we give, the the HD, not necessarily the HGN test, but more the walk and turn and the one leg stand are really divided attention tasks where you're asking you to do something mental and something physical at the same time. Um well, this officer is doing it at the roadside. Um you know, still while the woman's in the vehicle simply by asking, "Hey, can you I need this information. Can you do this?" And um I like it because he's already building a case so that he has enough to say, "Hey, get out of the car. We want to do these tests." And if she says no, then things can go from there. >> You want that? >> Yep. >> What are you doing there? >> My phone is back there with >> Okay. Who's your insurance, sir? Uh it's through uh all states. >> Maybe I'll give you a piece of paper for that. >> No, it's on my phone. >> Digital just like everybody else is on my phone. >> It's mostly digital. >> Okay. Where y'all head from tonight? >> Just the Waffle House. >> What's that? >> You're a Waffle House. >> Waffle House. This stop happens after midnight and they're leaving the Waffle House. I believe that. I When she said, "Oh, we were at the Waffle House." One, that's probably a truthful statement. And two, she's probably been drinking. Like, let's just we we know. Like, cops just know. And when she said that, I was like, "Yep, everyone in that car is drunk. They just had they just had a whole bunch of great breakfast food. They're just trying to get home to sleep it off." So, but hey, Waffle House does good work. At 12:30 in the morning, you need some food. That's where to go. >> Where y'all headed to? Get your IDs real quick. >> Actually, my purse I left my wallet at the beach. So, mine my wallet is >> Okay. What's your name? >> Courtney. >> Courtney. >> Courtney with a C or with a K. >> Yeah. You have no tail lights on. >> All right. Can I get out? >> No, ma'am. You're going to stay right there for me. >> Courtney with a C or a K. C. >> So C O U R T N E Y. >> Can I ask why I'm even being ID? I'm >> I'm just asking. >> I mean, it's fine, but also I know I know that that is actually you. You need to have >> Thank you. Sorry. >> You need to have some kind of >> No, we don't. >> Call your superior. This is >> I'm going to go for ask for supervisor. >> I mean, no, it is because I'm a passenger. >> Okay. Yeah. >> And you don't have to provide it. I'm just asking. But I >> we can ask you. >> I'm being honest with you, but that also is >> We can ask you. You cannot answer. >> Right back with you. >> 38 years old. >> You all good? >> UH YEAH. Should we go? Hey, uh go to the driver's side. I think she's going to be singing one. Send what you think. >> Me? >> What's up? >> You need me? >> Yeah. Yeah. Hold on. Uh passenger rear has got a warranty. There's a lot of good police work going on here. Uh, not only does the officer identify the driver, but he asks for ID from both of the passengers because that's all right. We can ask we can we can talk to anyone like this. That woman was like, "I want your supervisor here." You can ask me what my name is. Yes, we can. We can ask anything. You have the right without any sort of repercussions when you're the passenger to say, "No, I don't want to give you my ID." That's fine. We're not going to hold it against you. It is your right. Um, homeboy in the back, also a passenger, also doesn't have to provide ID. He's a little bit less mean. I had a whole bunch of other words, but a little bit, you know, he he acquiesed and said, "Yeah, man. Sure. Here's my ID." Well, he ends up with a warrant. Hey, sometimes that happens. Um, maybe he should have took home girl in the front's advice and just said, "No, I don't have to give you it." He could have said it nicer, like, "Hey, I know my rights and you know, unless you're conducting a criminal investigation on me, I'd rather not provide you my identification." That's a civil way of doing it like an adult would say, but either way, maybe she's got a warrant, too. I We'll never find out. But he does, and he's going to take a ride. >> Have you leave everything there? You can toss your cigarette to the side. Okay. Actually, I know better. >> No, ma'am. I'm not talking to you, >> sir. >> That's the answer I want to hear. >> All right. Chop out for me. Okay. >> Back. There we go. I like it. Let get rid of that for you. Little hinge cuffs. I like them. >> Ain't going to be comfortable, but you got a warrant, brother. >> He doesn't seem surprised. So, homeboy in the back seat, our passenger, they're like, "Hey, get out, man." He gets out, turns around, puts his hands behind his back. He's super polite. Looks like he's probably been through this a time or two. He is not surprised that he has a warrant. Like there is no like what me? Like if you told me I had a warrant, I'd be like what? That guy not so much. So he's super cool. Which is common with people that have gone through the the process. They know, hey, if you're cool, everything goes easier. We just It's the process goes easier. It's going to be the same process. You do it the easy way or the hard way. So he chose the easy way. Love it. >> [clears throat] >> All right. >> Just step out of the car. I need to talk to you. Okay. >> All right. Big sergeant is there. >> Cuz I'm telling you to step out of the car. Okay. >> It's I'm not going to go through this, ma'am. I need you to step out of the vehicle. >> Ma'am, you're either going to step out of the car or you're going to physically take physically >> because I'm not doing today. >> Congrats. And now you're going to go to jail just for resisting. I'm not resisting. >> Stand up. >> Oh, I love it. I'm going to do I'm not resisting. >> Got it. >> That's some [ __ ] >> Well, do you want to stop? I want to talk to you about it. >> So, the issue, ma'am, is you appear to be impaired under influence of alcohol and narcotics tonight. >> Driving under the influence. >> There's got to be I know my rights in here. Got to be. >> I think my warranty is >> Yeah. Yeah. I saw I saw where it was, man. I'll get you all that stuff. Okay. >> Sure. >> Yep. >> That being said, would you be willing to do some samurai salary test? >> Sure. Absolutely. >> Okay. >> I want to know why you're at why you say I'm resisting because I said >> because you got the car and you didn't. And you have to. >> Okay. But just because I said no. Correct. >> I'm not resisting. >> Resisting. You're resisting a lawful war. Literally the definition >> that's my way. >> Well, >> hey S, let me hard you for a second. >> She's actually willing to do Phil. >> Sure. She's having great conversation there with the passenger. >> Over here while I go put my car in there or something. >> Absolutely. >> Ricardo, will you stand up there with her? >> With who? The passenger. >> This way. I it's going to be hard. >> Hey Zach, we got to get a rubber flip. >> Oh, okay. I'll get it for her. You get that? >> Um, >> trying to be nice so that way we're not towing your car. There you go. >> Like it. >> Hey Bubba Mara, >> are you doing >> now? We're talking K9 there >> for a second. >> I like it. >> I don't got a camera in my car. >> Put your car in that parking lot. Set up for FSDs for me. I'll be right there in a second. Then I'll have us switch out. No, definitely wouldn't have known that about I mean, how would we know about him? Any issues? Y'all y'all been drinking alcohol all night. It's mistake number one. >> Yep. Drink at home. Stayed home. Solves all the problems. Noticed there was no rebuttal from her. She was like, "Yep, I'm drinking." >> You guys took her. I mean, had she just stepped out and talked to you. >> Totally different. >> I mean, it'd be 100% different. >> But she said no. >> You don't get to say no. >> That's what happens if you say no to the police. Well, I care about her and >> Well, you should have given her better advice. >> She's a really good friend to me and I want her to be okay. I mean, >> hey, you know, forget FSDs if she's causing problems. >> We're not going to do FSDs. >> No, absolutely not. >> Absolutely not. >> Hey, Marcato, just bring your car back over. >> Yeah. Sorry. >> Take her to jail, be done with it. I was surprised when the driver said that she would submit to the field sobriety test. Um I I don't even know if I would have offered him. Uh I think there was enough from all the observations that the officer had while she was trying to find her driver's license, registration, insurance, all that stuff. Um her admissions, um everything about her, and then forcibly having to remove her from the car. I'm not taking those handcuffs off. When I put handcuffs on someone, they don't come off till we get to the station. I'm not going to do the uh hey, I want to submit to the test, take the handcuffs off, put them back. No. No. So, I was surprised when they gave that offer. Um and then she, you know, because she's drunk, she's trying to slip her cuffs and, you know, she's just not she's not acting right anyway. So, I like that they just said, "Hey, we don't need FSTs. Put her in the car. It's going to lead to a successful prosecution. And he's got more than enough. Just keep things simple. I like it. >> Can I try to calm down? >> How can you get home? >> I will get home. >> Well, here here's Neil. We're going to tow the car. >> Calm down. >> I'm towing the car. Okay. You can't drive cuz you're drunk. >> No, I'm not. I'm not drunk, but I'm I would I would never say that I would drive. I know. >> You're intoxicating. >> Yeah. >> Nothing against you being intoxicated. You were patching her car. >> Who am I going with? Where are you? >> No. Put her in the back of your car. We're We're going to FSDs, but >> she's trying to slip cuffs and stuff. >> Can I please help calm down? Can I have the moment? Can I step out? >> No, not at all. Just >> You were agitating the whole situation here. >> I'm right here with you. >> No, you're not. You're in a car. >> You're nowhere near her. >> The last thing I want is >> repercussions. >> All right. Remember when you were a call your supervisor? You can't ask me that question. Remember you were that >> Oh, how the tables have turned. >> Are they both in there? >> You got to >> All right. So, hey, and now I need you to set about the car for me. Okay. You're not in trouble. Understand that. I just need you about the car because >> you know, what's your name? >> Cuz we need to tell >> another. Okay. >> Courtney, do you want to go stand in front of my car for >> sure? That's >> No, that's Jennifer. >> But it's in the card. >> She won't give me her. She She did not want to give her date of birth. Got >> I cannot identify her. I cannot force her. Would you like to help me inventory the vehicle? >> Take an inventory of the vehicle. >> Yeah, there car is going to get towed. >> Yeah, I got >> car is definitely getting towed. >> Well, I haven't didn't get no birthday one >> during the off the PC search cuz DUI part, but >> Oh, yeah. >> A potl whiskey. Oh, by the driver. >> Yeah, he's got a whole bottle of that. >> Pour one out for my homie in the car. Can you run her out of Virginia? >> I didn't put a cording subject in the car, did you? >> Oh, I'm sorry. She said she gave you her 14. >> No, she gave me first and last name and didn't want to give her date of birth. >> No, I did give my date of birth. >> No, you didn't. >> Hey, not according to the video. Oh driver clearly thought. >> Yeah. >> Slow movements. >> Yeah. >> Third speech. >> Mood swings. Won't do FSTs due to resisting and trying to get over handcuffs. just tries slipping them. >> Yeah, I like it. >> Told her stuff out. She said no. >> Can you run it all the way out of Virginia? >> Courtney put her hand back here whenever I had uh pulled him over >> like up against the uh right there. >> Did you see anything? I know us somewhere. >> Courtney. >> Yeah. Uh I do. You have a way to get home? You said that you'd figure it out. >> Do you want to stand by here with us while you get somebody come over here and get you or >> I'll be going? >> You sure? >> I was wondering like with her car. >> It's being towed. >> They're just towed. >> It's being used. >> Yeah. Like >> I like it. No. >> Hey, you got your implied consent paper, >> sir. >> Hey, question for you. Hey, I'm arrested for DUI. She's pretty hammered. She went and got the car, so we arrested her. Then she tried to handcuff. We're not going to do FSDs. I I'm assuming I still need to ask her. She's blow, right? >> I'm like, oh, hell no. >> That's what I figured. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. I got to give her the option first. Okay. Just making sure. All right. All right. >> I don't know if you recognized it, but the officer that did the stop, he's a K9 officer. So, impaired driving enforcement is probably not the focus of his everyday job. He's probably doing stuff like searching for criminals. Maybe he does some criminal interdiction. Um, you know, he's conducting open air sniffs on whatever. He's doing that. He's not he's not doing impaired driving enforcement. So, I like that he obviously recognizes that he doesn't have all the answers. He probably called someone on the traffic unit or a DR or, you know, someone that knows a little bit more traffic law says, "Hey, man, you know, do I need to give her the option to blow?" Um, he's getting information the right way. So, instead of just making it up, he calls someone that knows. I get calls all the time. Other guys in the traffic unit get calls all the time. Um, it just sometimes you just don't run into two impaired drivers a lot. So, you got to lean on someone who does the job. I love it because if I have search questions, I call my K9 guys. They're my brothers on the road. Um, they spend a lot of time out there. They know search and seizure. They know case law. Uh, so if I have a question that comes up, those are the guys I go to. But if they have a question on DUI enforcement, I'm the guy they come to. So, we both play to our strong side. >> Hey, M. Here's the deal. So, you're going to jail tonight for driving under the influence? Okay. Um, are you willing to provide a sample of your breath >> determine the blood alcohol content? >> How can you arrest me for drawing their own influence when I haven't provided anything at all? >> Okay. It's a yes or no. >> A good look at you. >> No, I I understand that. I'm just >> I'm not going ma'am. Listen, that's I'm not here to debate. >> Okay. He has a yes or no question. Are you willing? You said no. Okay, listen to my saying this. Okay. If you fail to submit to the test I requested of you, your privilege to operate a motor vehicle will be suspended for a period of 1 year for first refusal or for a period of 18 months if your privilege has previously been suspended. That being mind, do you still wish to not provide a sample of your breath? >> Yeah. So, what's the point? I'm already arrested. So, >> so you do not you will not provide a sample? >> No. >> Okay. All right. You're going to jail. Your car is being wanted. >> This officer is awesome. I just got to throw that out there. Um, he doesn't negotiate for anything. He is He's just straight to the point. When he said, "Get out." She said no. He put his hands on her, pulled her out, cuffed her. Perfect. He asks her, "Hey, will you blow?" She says no. He reads the form. "Will you blow?" She says no. He's like, "Cool." Boom. Shuts the door. I love that. I don't want a please please please will you will you please with cherry on top and sprinkles. I don't like any of that stuff. I just want I want a yes or a no and then let it go. And that's exactly what he did. He did what he had to do. We're required to ask. He asked per his policy or maybe that's uh you know state law there um that they have to ask. But he did what he had to do and then moved straight on. I love it. Guy knows exactly what he's doing. Jennifer was charged with resisting an officer and DUI. She bonded out quickly, was assigned a public defender, and plead no contest to both charges in July 2025. The judge adjudicated her guilty, placed her on probation, and later noted successful completion of the pre-trial diversion on August 19th, 2025. >> All right, body cam bingo. Check it out. We almost had it. I just needed a bro. I needed a bro. Uh, we could have had up on this side. Could have had on this side. We didn't we just didn't get it. So close.
