All right, everyone. You might notice I'm in a giant city. So, I'm here in Miami. This is where the Miami Heat play and I'm with my boy. I don't know if you you might have seen him ride along with me on his off-duty world. He's called Nick Off Duty. On Duty, his name's Nick Perez and he's an officer with the Miami Police Department. So, Nick's my boy. Nick, what do you got going on here, man? Tell me something good. >> What's up, man? >> What's up, baby? >> Good to see you, man. Hey, it's time to return the favor. >> That's it. >> So, today we are at the Kaseya Center. This is where the Heat play and there is a giant roll call going on because we have Ultra Music Festival here. It is the largest EDM festival that goes around the world >> What? >> and it makes it stop here once a year. So, it's a huge festival, thousands and thousands of people. Over the course of the weekend, we we expect over 150,000 people to be here. So, today around 55,000. We got officers helping us out from all kinds of jurisdictions because it takes a lot >> Okay. >> to put this on. So, right now there's going to be a roll call. We're going to go in there. I'll show you guys the roll call how we do things. >> Okay. >> And then we're going to hit the streets, go call the calls, show you the station. It's going to be a good day. I got to return the favor, man. >> it, dude. I You rode along with me, now I'm riding along with you. >> I love it. >> Your one objective is ensure that the community goes home safe and that you do, too. Any agency in any part of the world that has encountered chaos is when a novel situation occurs, right? Something you have not seen before. Think about that now. Think about suspicious package. Think about explosion. >> [music] >> Think about active killer, right? Those are our main fears out here on this event. You've done a phenomenal job the last few days. I know today's going to be no different. I thank each and every one of you for what you do, not just here, but out there every day. Thank you all. >> I was I was telling one of the guys, I go, "Bro, every time I watch your videos, I I crack up." >> I'm I'm Nick Proctor, man. Nice to meet you. >> that, man. How you doing? >> Dude, nice to meet you. >> I was watching you. I was watching you come to your chocolate house. I respect that. >> Ah, I love it, man. I love it. >> I love it. Get over here, man. Check this guy out. >> I'm watching you. >> So, we're trying to do the shift, but Frank keeps getting stopped by all the cops. They recognize him. They want to take a picture, especially these motormen. So, I got the opportunity. He's like, "Hey, can I take a picture?" They're checking out the ride, and we'll be here for another like 10, 15 minutes. Cuz that's just the way it's been going all day. >> I got you, bro. No pictures, no problem. >> I got you. >> It's nuts. >> All right. >> I love it. I'm also the cameraman today. All right, 5 4 3 2, here we go. Cheese, cheese, cheese. >> [music] >> As you know, things are going on around the world, right? >> Yeah. >> That is you got to be extra safe, and and we took that into precaution where we we're I'm telling you, we got this thing >> There's a ton There's a ton of people. I think just the overt like, "Hey, there's officers here. There's a presence." Any direction you look, you see someone in uniform. Like I just it just [music] feels safe. Like it feels like, "All right, man. Even if something happens, there's so many people here, they're going to take care of it." You know, as far as as law enforcement. >> Don't worry. I'll still hold your hand. >> I'll just I'm going to hide behind you, so you know. [laughter] >> So, we're checking out donut spots. It's we're you know, two cops checking out donut spots. I'm showing them the best First things first, shift starts. Hey, these are all the best donut spots. >> Where Where we [laughter] at? Like Voodoo Donuts? >> Yeah, check this little spot out. >> This is absolutely totally different. And I don't understand anything that's going on. >> [laughter] >> Don't worry. Just hold my hand. I'll walk you through it. >> It's like there's there's so much pavement, sidewalks, and businesses. >> Yeah. >> This is cool, man. >> You good? >> What you need? Let me get out. What you got, big dog? >> So, we have a community event going on. And I had to break up a whole fight, and then they ran. There's a hole in the gate over here that leads to a house on 15th. I believe that gangs have hit multiple times. >> Yeah. >> So, when I saw them running that way, I already knew. I shut down the music. All of the village should be packing up. Thank God for the rain. It might help a little bit, but >> We're going to we're going to spin over there to see if we see anybody just to show that hey, we're here. All right, we're going to go we'll spin around and see if we see anything. Well, in a situation like this, uh if they have access to firearms, you know, it used to be, you know, you just settle stuff out, you know, you fight by the tree and and get a couple of scrapes and bruises and you move on. Well, nowadays, um you know, unfortunately, with the access to firearms, some of these juveniles they get hot-headed, especially if they're part of some kind of gang, and then they come back. What we're going to do is we're just going to go and kind of just posture with our lights on to make sure that that we're seen. Uh show a big presence to let everyone know that playtime's over and that we're here to ensure that nothing pops off. >> Who parks like that? >> And you see the brazen like oh, I'm just going to leave my car here. It's like Okay. You going to move the car? Man, if a police officer ever they they just drive by me, I'm like oh my god, when I was a young guy, I'm sorry, I'm bad. >> Yeah, I'm sorry, what did I do, sir? Like, let me how can I make your life easier, sir? >> Kids nowadays, they just don't care. >> man. They don't care. We're in Miami, your hometown. >> That's it, the 305, dale. >> Got it. >> And we and we have chickens moving in. Did you guys see them? >> Yeah, yeah. >> So, there's just like wild chickens that just run around here. >> Man, you know how people do and they they're they're what do they call it when they're preppers? >> Yeah. >> And they prep for disasters. >> So, Miami is prepping. >> We're prepping just in case there's a hurricane, food's closed uh the store is closed. We got chickens that are laying eggs. You know what I mean? >> got all the protein you need. >> That's it, baby. Daily protein. We're one of the first units here, so we're just going to make sure that everyone's all right. We're going to leave a hole for fire rescue and uh let them get to work. And then the officer will come and do the report. But right now, mission is to make sure that everyone's all right. You okay? Okay. Fire rescue's coming. They're going to come down and they're going to treat you. You all right? Okay. Fire rescue's coming out. They're both all right, minor injuries. He's a little shaken up, she's a little shaken up. Little cut to her arm. Um, but you know, the airbags deployed, there's some gas, obviously, you know that happens. So, you would get a lot of times people call and there's a car that's on fire. >> We get the same thing. >> I'm going to let the traffic guy explain what happened because he got here and he started sniffing around. It's like I got a traffic canine just smelling around. Tell Tell us what happened. >> Wait a minute. So, I'm looking at this and I start seeing fresh fluid here. So, that wreck happened out here. >> Yes. >> And that car went that way. So, I mean, just with the momentum of that car, so that gray car was absolutely headed this way. >> Correct. >> Absolutely. And then it's either that car came through the intersection here or made a left here because it's the like crazy damage on the passenger side. So, it had to be a left. I just don't know if it was making a left or if it was coming through that intersection. >> He's good cuz that's exactly what happened. We got the story synopsis is she's making a turn, cuts in his, he's got the right away of traffic. They end up smashing, the car spins, and this is where it final resting. Thankfully, everyone's okay. Minor injuries, but you never know, right? Could be internal stuff. So, they're just checking them out, crossing all their T's and dotting their I's, and then they're going to roll on, bro. >> So, you guys have a tow truck here already? >> Yeah, so this guy This guy This is one of our tow truck companies that are in our rotation. >> That's like the quickest response I've ever seen. >> Welcome to the city. >> But obviously, man, both of these cars are disabled. They're both going to have to be towed anyway, so. >> Well, we're going to keep it rolling, man. Somebody said, "Hey, you should go and ride with Frank." And I was like, "I don't know who I don't know who Frank is." >> Who Frank is. >> And then they were like, and another video would come out, "Hey, you should really go ride with Frank. Hey, Frank is in there. Hey, Frank is in there." And then the comment section just grew to Frank, Frank. I was like, "Let me see who Frank is." I went and looked. I was like, "Oh, he's a That's a good dude right there." >> Legit. So, that's how you found us, huh? >> Yeah. At first, for some reason, I thought you were like a a Uh >> [laughter] >> I I thought you were a dog on a YouTube channel, like maybe a police dog, but then turns out you're the man when it comes to traffic. You're slinging tickets like you said. >> Dude, slinging tickets, man. It's what we do out there. >> So, Frank, I've bought you something more special. >> All right. >> Yeah. >> You know I love the water. >> I know cuz you're out by the desert, so you need a little water in your life. So, this is our marine patrol area, our marine patrol station where we stage all of our boats. I'm going to have you go out on a boat, meet our marine patrol lieutenant who's in command over the unit. >> Nice. >> And I'm going to show you a little bit about what goes on here at marine patrol. >> I get >> First things first, I want to show you our pride and joy, the Miami PD Minnow. So, this is what we're going to go out on this one today. We're going to get her all set up for you. Yep. >> This one? >> Yes, this is the MPD Minnow. No, no, no. This one right here. So, you on this side and the lieutenant here, or you can ride like a motor, one in the back, one in the front. >> I I mean, you know, it's my it's my comfort zone. >> [laughter] >> So, this is the MPD Minnow. Uh we're going to No, I'm just kidding. We're going to take you out, uh you know, a little bit little bit of weather today, so we're probably going to take you out on the safe boat to make sure in case it rains or it gets a little choppy. Yeah. >> And the wonderful uh city skyline. I love it, man. I've been looking for this. I mean, the weather's not great, but hey, it's Florida. >> Hey, man, it's okay. Thank you so much for spending your morning out here with me. Yeah, I know there's obviously there's a ton of stuff going on in the city of Miami and uh and I get the marine bureau lieutenant, so So, thank you for that. >> No, I've anytime, anytime. >> There is just so much stuff to see here. >> We got boats that speed through the Miami River. Um >> So, you're doing traffic stops on the water. >> Correct. It basically what what I like to say and what my major likes to say is we're basically like motors on the water. That's basically just it. >> That resounds with my soul. >> Yeah, I'm sure it does. I'm sure it does. They don't have any navigational lights. >> Yeah, you just run into this thing right here. >> Their FL numbers are incorrect, so actually one of my guys cited them the other night just for that same reason. So, they'll anchor out here. They'll put their jet skis their three four jet skis. So, this is a derelict vessel that's being ready to Yeah. >> So, it's ready to be moved already. A citizen sees a a boat on the water and it's like an eyesore. >> Absolutely. >> You know, and unfortunately we do have to sometimes explain to them just because it's an eyesore it doesn't mean it's Yeah, it's not a derelict vessel. >> look man, we're not going to tow your wife. >> You know, so and you know, one of my officers actually handles that specifically that his main function is derelict vessels. >> Because we do have a lot. >> He's got to be busy. Holy cow. >> currently have about 16 in the city right now that are ready Correct. That they're ready to be removed. >> And then now do you send the registered owner a bill for what it costs? >> they'll send that you know, one of my officers doing now is trying to get repayments for the city of Miami because it does cost money. >> course, yeah. >> You know, that boat probably cost you know, $16,000 just to to remove and salvage, you know. >> I don't know. >> So, last year we removed about 64 >> Go, that's a lot. >> derelict vessels in the city of Miami of 2025. This year we're at I think 12. >> So, people used to go sit in there and then they would race boats in this cove. >> have race boats here way before my time. >> No way. >> So, it's been condemned for for a couple years now, many years actually. >> Yeah. >> So, and I know they're trying to but it's it's a nice historic Yeah, it's a nice historical venue. So, I'm blessed. This agency has a lot of opportunities to grow. >> Right now. >> To do whatever you want to do. You know, if it's narcotics, if it's in a mountain unit, we have horses, motors, you know, you're able to do it here. >> Yeah. >> So, I mean, you could spend 5 years in in every spot and never hit all the spots. >> Yeah, I have nothing. One of my sergeants here has been here 17 years, 18 years. >> In the Marine Bureau? >> In the Marine Bureau. >> I wouldn't want to leave either. >> Yeah. And over the 19 years I've seen crime drastically go down. And that's attributed to the leadership, um a long-term plan that they put in place with different things like technology where we have cameras all over the city in our real-time crime center. I got to take you by. Um monitor things >> a real-time crime center? >> Yes, we do. We have a giant uh real-time crime center. >> All right, everyone. So, I'm in the real-time crime center here in Miami Police Department. Um all sorts cool stuff, stuff I don't know about, but the guy that does is Lieutenant Gutierrez. So, he runs the unit. He's the commander over the unit. >> How many CCTVs do you have? Like uh cameras do you have in this room? >> As of right now, we're at 1,300 and counting, right? And we we try to expand every year. >> It's not something that we deal with, but it's something that I've I've heard that people are like, "Oh, there's so much technology and you know, you're infringing on my rights." >> The idea is to give our officers and our command staff as much information as possible to what they're en route to, right? Then we do investigative, right? So, now the incident has occurred. Can we go back and add value to that? Did we know that the offender was at a supermarket before the incident? Was was in a particular car? Okay, what car was it? Let's run it through LPR. Where does it hit? Go back to the camera. So, it's really putting all the pieces of the puzzle together to get that crime solved. >> That is awesome. It's It's just It's a level of technology I don't I don't have. >> Never in my 19 years that I think we'd get here, but here we are. >> So, you're not just looking up people. You're looking up stuff. Hey, there's a crime, there's a report, there's a there's a victim, and then hey, it's this guy. It's this guy Nick and he's got a beard. Hey, here's Nick and a beard right here. >> Absolutely. So, we we need a a a driving factor. That driving factor is a crime, right? Those are the driving factors for us or added security for like we spoke about earlier where when it comes to special events. >> And then you have everything. You have it all on video, then you have body worn camera video, you've got Flock, you've got CCTV, and then your investigation can take all of that and put it all together. >> packaged up nicely, then we give it to State Attorney's Office and they do their part. >> That's an incredible amount of evidence. Let me talk about gathering evidence and conducting like a full and thorough investigation. That's the definition of that. >> to end, yeah. Boots on the ground are still in there. We're augmenting what they do, so it's never going to replace them. But yeah, when you talk about the evidence and you're adding to that case, the value that it brings to the table is tremendous, yeah. So, our shot detection system here, for example, right? An incident occurs. >> That's gunfire. >> Yeah. That's gunfire. That audio will get captured. It'll get listened to by trained acoustic professional, and then they'll verify whether it indeed is gunfire or backfire of a car or helicopter blade. Then, they'll plot it on the map wherever it occurred, and they'll send it over to us. Not just to us here in the real-time crime center, but to our dispatchers and our officers out on the road. All of that occurs within about 30 to 45 seconds, right? So, think about the amount of time we've now got on our side because we're still waiting for a 911 call to come in. >> We're in the DFR room, stands for drone as first responder, right next to the RTC. See, this right here is where all the drones are are flown from. And I don't know anything about drones, but once again, the lieutenant does. >> Well, it's a very fast-evolving world here in law enforcement where drones are being utilized on a regular basis now on multiple levels, right? So, like we mentioned, we are in the drone first responder office right next to the real-time crime center. And what we have is currently three docks, which is considered one high right above our heads here on the fifth floor, where we can dispatch our drones from and kind of fly them from down here to anything within 2.5-mile radius of our current location. So, any calls for service, any traffic concerns, any missing persons, you name it, right? The idea is to use our assets whenever possible. >> Just compile everything, strategy, technology, resources. It's just helping drive that crime rate down, you know, and it's all thanks to >> much. And it's I mean, it's there's so much and every single one of those resources comes with opportunities for Miami PD officers to be assigned there. You can be assigned to the air unit, assigned to the traffic unit, assigned to the K9, assigned to SWAT, assigned to I mean all the >> I'm in the social media unit. >> [laughter] >> I said if that doesn't say enough, there's so many opportunities here for you to move around. >> My tour guide from Miami PD Nick was gracious enough to bring me up to the chief's office. So I am with Chief Morales, the chief. Thank you Thanks for taking some time, man. >> No, no, it's a pleasure to to have you guys here visiting all the way from Arizona. >> Thanks. >> Thanks for the your office is incredible. I mean just all sorts of I mean just great memorabilia, pictures. You've had You've had a heck of a career. >> Yeah, it's been a it's been an incredible ride, 32 years with the Miami Police Department, man. I love this place. It's my home. Uh all year. >> Hey, I'm kind of curious. How did you guys end up coming to visit Miami on Ultra weekend? >> Is that Is that by design or or was just a friendly coincidence, huh? >> Uh we like the way people dress for the for the concert. >> Oh, it was entertaining, [laughter] I bet. I bet. So awesome. >> So [clears throat] Nick's been showing us around, but I mean your agency is just it's enormous. Like I had no idea what a big a number of officers and specialty divisions and I mean you've got You've got a lot that falls under you. >> Let me tell you I I it never fails to amaze me how all these pieces kind of come together. >> You're lowering the crime rate here. >> So it's been I've been chief for 4 years, man. It's been the honor of a lifetime, man. My time is kind of coming to an end here in October, so looking back and reminiscing on the days, man, we've had 4 years of historic drops. So last year, 2025, we had the safest year on record for the city of Miami. And this year >> Ever? >> Ever in our recorded history going back to the late '40s. Sometimes my crime analysts come and tell us, "Hey chief, we we we I checked the numbers three times. They're correct." Um because they're that astonished of the reduction that the men and women of the Miami PD have been able to accomplish this. >> We rode along yesterday. There wasn't a lot of crime. Let me just put it that way. I mean, it was we rode along, it was crickets and you know, Nick's driving around going, "Man, this When he was a rookie, he goes, "Man, this is busy. This place used to rock." When Nick was a rookie 5 years ago. >> Yeah. >> [laughter] >> That's before you took over. >> Sorry. >> Before you took over. When I was going, there was crime. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> I can tell you, man, back in the [clears throat] '90s, I tell folks, one of the things that astonishes me is I I started in '94. >> Okay. >> In '94, we had 4,000 robberies. Last year, we had 320. >> Woah. >> Imagine that in a city of half a million folks, 360. We don't even average one robbery a day. All those defund the police things that everywhere else had, never even breathed a little bit of of reared its head here in Miami. And I Miami loves their cops. >> Wow. >> Their community is super supportive, man. There's never been incidents where the community hasn't come out and showed a great deal of support for the Miami Police Department. We're we're fortunate, man. We repay We repay it in kind, man. We love our community in return, so. >> You've got an awesome agency. >> Thank you. >> I have I I'm telling you, man, I've been I've been so impressed with everything that I've seen. And then, you know, I just I thank you. Thank you so much for sharing your agency, opening up I'm telling you that you opened up every door for us. We rode with everyone and and got to see stuff and met people. And so, just thank you. Thank you so much, man. >> I'm glad. Whatever you guys need, man, we're you're we're we're here just to make sure that the Magic City safe. So, whatever you guys need from us, man, please let us know. >> Magic City's been very magical. Hey, my friend, thank you so much.
