I got this footage from Flagler County in Florida in May of 2022. A teen driver called police to report a road rage incident. When they responded to a gas station, only the teen was there and he showed them cell phone footage from the incident as well as gave enough identifying information to find an address for the other party. This body cam footage starts with the cops going to interview the other party and by this point the police have already seen cell phone footage of the incident, which I've put in the middle of this video. >> All right, everyone. I'm Frank Slope. I am coming up on 25 years as a deputy sheriff here in Arizona. So, we're going to be doing some body cam breakdowns today. Active police cam is the channel we found today's video. While we're watching this, body cam bingo is the game that we play. So, this is card number one, so we're starting at the top of the stack. We sell a stack of five separate cards. You can find them on our website. You order them, I'll ship them, then you get to play. But right now, we're going to play. Check it out. >> What's up, man? You know why we're here? >> I got you, man. >> Hey, what's going on? >> Were you over there? >> At the gas station? >> Yeah, we were just about to call you. >> Oh, okay. >> I also got a guy, I I got his uh license plate number, but >> Okay. >> Also a gentleman that was in traffic. >> Okay. >> Um his name here is Michael. Uh they have a business in town. I think it's They saw everything that happened. >> Okay. >> Why don't you tell them? >> So, basically what happened was this guy's driving erratically behind us, okay? >> Okay. >> I'm in that truck right there. >> Yeah. >> Are you >> And we have a kid in the car, all right? So, he's >> [ __ ] who tried to hurt me and my daughter. >> Woah. >> Woah, easy. Coming in hot. >> We weren't there, so we're trying to figure out what what happened. >> He tried to He tried to hit >> Woah, ma'am. Let's talk. Let him >> Can I just talk to him for a minute? >> As a member of a traffic unit, I respond to road rage incidents all the time. It just I think people that get stuck in traffic get aggravated and then, you know, they make a lane change and things escalate. And you know, people start beeping their horns and they're throwing fingers and then windows come down and that escalates things and then, you know, they come up to a stoplight and people get out of cars and they both pull into a parking lot and it's just like it just continuously escalates and there's no reason for it. It's just it's all like this weird ego-driven like high school BS that adults participate in. It's the dumbest thing. It's so dumb. And it leads to stuff like this. Which is great video, so I can't complain about it too much, but it's just it's silly, it's and it's absolutely useless. So, don't do it. >> I don't know what happened. It's It's not a big deal as far as what could have happened, but so long story short, um you can help me with this though. That road that we come down but to turn onto uh >> Cypress. >> Cy- >> Belltaire. >> Belltaire, thank you. So, we're coming down Belltaire, go all the way over to the um right the left side lane to take the left. Take the left. As we take the left, he tries to go into the far lane that I'm driving into. And literally, I mean, I thought he hit us. Like he was right there, right? So, okay, we make mistakes, whatever. Keep driving, right? He's doing these. >> Behind you guys? >> Behind us. Swerving, swerving, swerving. So, I'm out my window going what are you doing, you know? So, then he pulls over to the other lane, tries to come over, there's a car in front of me, he can't go anywhere, he's screaming in my window. I have a 10-year-old right here, you know what I mean? Like screaming terrible profanities. So, then I'm like, I got a kid in the car. He goes, "I don't give a [ __ ] I'll run you off the road." Ba ba ba ba ba ba, right? So, all right, that's me kicking in now going, "Nah, that ain't happening, bro." >> This year, if you're ready to finally see real results, a gut, glowing skin, and steady energy? And I start walking over to his car. And he starts walking towards me. And then when I get closer to him, he bounces. >> You guys are like in this confrontation. Okay. >> Well, we were about to be, and then he went back in the car. >> Okay. >> So, then I'm screaming at him, going, "Are you freaking kidding me? You almost killed my kid, this, that, and the other." So, as I'm screaming at him, he tries to come and hit me. >> With the car? >> to dodge my way out of his way, and then he had nowhere to go forward, so I went around the car. His window was down. I'm screaming at him through the window, same exact thing. Tries the other way and tries to hit me, and he was down in the embankment and everything. I had to dive out of the way on that one. Then he let Then he pulled off into the lane, and I came up and took a picture of his license plate. And while I doing that, two or three people were like, we saw everything that happened and this guy had a card and I said, can I have him call you, please? Like, do you saw it and they said, yes. So, that's what just happened. And my dad's a cop, I'm you know, >> like kick his car or anything like that? >> No. >> That you know of? >> No. I didn't get close enough for that. He didn't leave his car. >> Okay. >> He hit me with He hit my shoulder with his car because I literally had to dive out the way. >> Where was your phone? >> Yeah. >> Where did you get hit at? >> Probably right up here. >> Okay. Is there anything medical attention or anything like that? >> I mean, no, I don't think so. >> What about your arm right there? >> That might hurt later. >> Probably, but I don't think I'm going to go to the cops or I mean, to the, you know, ER or anything like that, but >> Okay. >> Yeah, man, it was uh it was a little scary. >> It's just rough. Your safety, all right. I don't want >> Oh, oh, I'm sorry, it's worth it. >> that, Miss Ma'am? >> Teresa, it's a knife. >> That's worth >> Here you go. >> It's all right. >> All right, so >> Let me see that really quick. >> Yeah, please. >> write it down real fast. >> [laughter] >> Hit my [ __ ] Hit my >> Have him give >> It's all right. >> It's a pretty good video. >> You said what's 10-4 on charges, right? Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, that's like my best friend. R.J. is a good friend. Teresa's really awesome person. >> Yeah, she's great. >> They're like family than I call them like more of family, so. Um I'm not not I don't do this, but when you're messing with a kid and you don't care and you're saying, I'm going to run you off the road. I don't give a [ __ ] about your kid. >> young >> So, let me get this right. He is so overwhelmingly concerned about the welfare of his daughter that he stops the car in a parking lot where this other crazy driver is instead of just driving away. He's not obviously obviously not that concerned about the welfare of his daughter if he is stopping the car in the parking lot to then exit and go confront this kid for bad driving behind him or yelling. By the way, neither of those are violations. Like if someone's weaving in within their lane behind you, there is nothing that's wrong with that. And if someone's yelling at you, there's nothing illegal about that. It's just like it's just someone showing that they're an idiot. The fact that this guy engaged it and then stopped keeping his daughter in danger for longer, there's the problem. >> Was it a young person or older person? >> I would say he was young. I would say he was probably like 24 with dreads. >> Okay, no worries. >> 24 with dreads, I want to say. Something like that. I don't know. I mean, somewhere around there, but I'm not sure. >> Was it a black guy, white guy? >> Black guy, I believe. Could have been dark-skinned Spanish, but he talked like that, so. >> Okay. >> And it's funny cuz we were just in there calming her down and then we was going to call you. I don't want to get in trouble. >> No, I understand. For sure. >> We were just going to call you. >> We do have something to call you about. Yeah. >> Protecting ourselves, you know what I mean? And I think what I think he I think I don't think he would have any dents, but I think I hit his side view mirror with his shoulder. >> Okay. >> If I remember correctly. >> Okay. >> It happened so fast. >> Okay. No, I know. Those things do. >> I didn't think >> Alpha 222 flagler. No, you're good. >> I didn't think anything of it and then like that he was going to come driving at me. >> 10-65 one by number 27-29 PA to Connecticut. >> So, I wasn't ready for that. That's where my dad's Well, he just retired. >> You're good. >> Waterbury. >> Nice. >> No worries. That's all right. >> Hi honey. You all right, honey? I know it's scary. Thank you. >> It's okay, baby. This is what happens in the adult world. That's These These guys will make it better and and make it right. >> How old are you? You're 10? >> Just a minute. I'll be right back, okay? >> Probably 227. Were you guys all in this car together? >> Yeah. >> Why didn't you wait for us at the gas station? >> It was the >> What do you mean? Well, didn't this happen This happened at the gas station? >> into the gas station when she we we pulled out. We didn't want any more confrontation. >> Okay. >> We thought he was coming after us. >> I thought he was going to hit the car. He was >> Once he Once we saw him pull into the gas station, we pulled right out. >> I wasn't trying to stay there. >> Okay. When were you guys going to call us? >> As soon as you calm down and tell >> said that someone was calling. >> Okay. >> One of the people in the car said call. >> Okay. >> Well, that's yeah, I They grabbed me. They were in the lane next to us. The people over here, I was going to get their number, but the light turned green and that guy had a card, so I just ran and grabbed his card. I figured one would be enough because it was blatant. So. >> Yeah. >> Got to be cameras, whatever over there. I don't know. >> Yeah, I'm not trying to be, you know, prior to be rude, but I don't want I wasn't there, so I have to ask this >> Listen, no, I completely understand. There's no No issues here. >> So did they Where is this guy? Is he just like on the loose now? >> No, no, we're we're we're with the other party. Yeah, I think he's the one that called. We're with We're with him right now. We have deputies with him at the gas station. So, we're reviewing footage and using a lot of resources for this. >> I knew it was them. I knew it. >> Yeah, that's why it's weird. Usually uh victims usually call us first, you know. All right, this deputy hits the nail right on the head. Victims typically call first. Very seldom do suspects call in on themselves. Happens occasionally, not very often. So, the fact that this suspect had gone all the way home and was just going to call you is absolute That is There's no way this guy was going to call. No way, because he's a primary aggressor. It is absolutely He is He got out of his car. He's kicking and punching the other guy's car. There's no way he's calling the police. He was probably hoping the other guy didn't get his license plate and that everything would just wash over, but that's not the case. >> Okay. When did you guys come home and didn't call us? >> Yeah. >> You know we have a child that was sleeping. >> Mhm. >> And we have a witness of somebody I don't know. >> Yeah. >> So, hopefully she talks to them and >> How old Do you know how old he was? >> I have no idea. >> Did he look younger? >> All I know is that he was ruthless and tried to hit me twice. So, if he wants to press charges, I'm going to press attempted murder charges. >> That's not the charge. You know, just That's not a charge. >> scared because she thought I was going to get hit by his car because he kept coming after me driving. >> Can you call Teresa real quick too? >> You also got out of your car? >> You know her? >> Uh she works at the bar, I think so. You work for the Sheriff's Office? >> Yeah. >> Uh honestly, I'm about to sign my life for attempted murder. >> He's on the phone with a friend who works for the department. >> Uh it was a female. I'm not sure what was her name. >> Who? >> Uh female officer? >> Uh Deputy Brumfield. >> Deputy Brumfield and you are Sergeant? >> Harrison. >> Deputy Harrison and Deputy Brumfield. >> And then um you can tell her we have Sergeant Jacob uh >> Sergeant Jacobs >> over with the other guy. >> Sergeant Jacobs over with the other guy. >> So, this guy uses the phone-a-friend option to call another, sounds like Flagler County Deputy Sheriff that he knows. Um I don't know what he's expecting. Like is he expecting to to be on the phone and like, "Here, they said you should leave me alone." Like is that is that what he's expecting? Cuz I don't know. And on the other side I don't know what I would do if I was the deputy that he knew and he called me and two other deputies who I'm sure I know are there investigating a crime to which you committed. And then you get this phone call and what are you expecting me to do? All you've done is call me to tell me that you're an idiot. Which I probably already know if we know each other. And now what? Like I don't know what I don't know what the purpose of that phone call was from either what he was expecting or what he thought that that other deputy was going to do, but nothing's going to happen. Like I'm not going to interject on my day off in an active investigation with deputies on the road. Like they're doing their job and they're damn good at it. So I'm not going to not going to do anything. But good luck. >> No, no, no, this is all just happening now. So I'm just, you know, you're I just called you I don't know, you know. >> Yeah, you just called you as a weird flex. >> Give you a call Okay. Bye. >> How do you know Teresa? >> Uh they're my I call them my Florida family. They took me in, man. >> Who's that? >> Yeah, her husband is uh we do a little bit of work together, our side jobs and things of that nature. But um I don't know. They're They're like my best friends, both of them. >> Yeah. >> And two, the kids, you always I was there last night, you know. >> Yeah. >> Just that kind of thing. I don't know too many people around here. One second. Sorry. Going off the discussion. >> I did park so far away. >> Jesus. Was it Richard? >> Yes. >> All right. Can you put your hands behind your back, please? >> What's that? >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Here you go. >> For what? >> You're being placed under arrest for felony assault. >> it. For what? >> I'm saying. >> Say again? >> They've got video footage. >> Of what? >> Of the whole thing. Of the whole incident. >> Yes. >> And um it's got it shows you kicking the vehicle multiple times, reaching in the car, swatting the phone out of the kid's hand and while he's in the driver's seat. >> Swatting a phone? When he said he was going to shoot me? >> It's got video. >> So then is there is there a video camera footage of him trying to hit me with his car? >> They have all of it all of it's on video footage. >> So is he getting arrested? >> there. I'm not there witnessing the video. But this they're showing you're the primary >> because I had a child in the car and this guy for a mile and a half, two miles, was messing with us to the point where he >> what you're saying. I understand what you're saying. I do understand what you're saying. Can I have his phone? >> Yeah. I mean I came out here because I didn't think there was any way. I got out of the car and I got out of the car to basically he's telling me to get out. I get out and go we have a child in this car. He almost killed us three times. >> That was only twice. >> I don't give a [ __ ] about your child. [ __ ] you. >> Well, that's all pretty much speech. >> Okay. >> So then when he says he's going to shoot me and he pulls up something in his car >> What did he pull up? Did he Did he have a gun? >> It was gray. What do you want me to do? >> We don't think it's my car. Just spread your Spread your feet for me, please. Is there anything that's going to hurt you in here? >> Did you see a gun or did anybody see a gun? >> I It was so fast he he was literally moving. It was fast raising it up to me. I It was gray. That's all I knew. All I knew is whatever it was, it wasn't getting pointed at my face. >> What did it look like? >> It looked like a gray metal object pointed at my face. I mean, when you're in something like that >> All right, let's work. >> So, you notice that they had this entire two different deputies had an entire conversation. Hey, tell me what happened. This happened, blah blah blah blah blah, then this, then this, then this, then this, whole chronology of events. At no time during that initial statement did he mention anything about a gun. Then, the handcuffs go on and things get serious, and then somehow he remembers, "He said he was going to shoot me and he pointed something in my face." And that And that was nowhere in the initial If a gun is introduced into a scenario, that's a pretty big deal. I would probably start off with that. I would probably start off with, "Hey, man, this guy pointed a gun at me." That's aggravated assault. That is a felony. Like, that's something serious. Nowhere is this brought up until the handcuffs go on, and now he's trying to make the other person look worse than him. So, he's like, "Uh And then he said he was going to shoot me and he pointed something at me." It's just all malarkey. That's a great word for it. It's just It's just made up BS because he's just trying He's trying to take what he did and move it down and make the other person look like they were worse. And I'm glad that these deputies aren't biting it. >> I literally just got out of work. I literally was protecting that girl. And >> Well, anything on you that I don't find in the jail does, uh it'll be another charge. So, if you want to tell me now, we can just work it >> There's not I have There's two packets in here. >> I said to everybody. >> That's it. That's everything. >> Two packets in here, man. >> Do you You don't phone do you? >> I would rather her have my phone. >> Do you want her to have all this stuff? >> Call Teresa and tell her what's going on, please. >> No. >> Do you want her to have all this stuff, too? >> Yeah. Can you keep that card so it doesn't blow away because that's the guy who said that >> I've been trying to call him. Yeah. I've been trying to call him. >> Cuz this is not right. Phone does not or video, whatever it is, does not show what happened at all. >> What are my charges again, please? >> Criminal mischief and uh child abuse. >> How's the child abuse? >> 17. >> Because he's 17? >> Our victim is 17 years old. I would almost expect this from a 17-year-old, unable to control their emotions, hopped up on testosterone. I get it. I have I I understand it that they just don't have the same ability to take those stoic philosophies of only reacting to things that matter to you and then um you know, using them in your daily life. I get it. This is a grown man. This is a grown man with a family. Got daughters, got a wife, couple cars, got a house, like why why are you all because someone was weaving behind him? So, he's driving and someone is weaving behind him. Who cares? They're behind you. It absolutely doesn't matter. It It does nothing. Just let them weave behind you. But instead, now this all ensues and he's definitely the suspect and he's probably going to go to jail. >> I didn't hit him. >> But then swatting the phone out of my hand and then >> a He said I'm going to shoot you. >> He said he But he said I'm going to shoot you. If you get a hold of that guy, I guarantee you he heard that. >> video. I understand what you're saying. You can't swat what I think might be a gun away from my face. >> Was it a gun? >> I don't know. All I did was >> That's a little bit of story time, I think. >> I'm going to have to the state attorney's office. >> Did you actually see a gun? >> So, somebody says I'm going to shoot you Somebody says I'm going to shoot you in the face. Uh 04 I'm Can I give him my code? >> As you heard, Richard was initially charged with one felony count child abuse and one misdemeanor count criminal mischief. About a month after the incident, the prosecutors lowered the felony child abuse charge to a misdemeanor battery charge. The criminal mischief charges seem to stem from the damage he caused to the victim's car, i.e., dents in the door. >> Card number one, all I got was the for what square.
