[Music] as you can see I'm not in Arizona anymore a lot of people have asked for more stuff that's not riding around in a cop car so I came home so I'm on the Southshore of Long Island in the Great South Bay uh we're going to spend some time here with Dad get on his commercial fishing boat we're going to uh catch some Blowfish and catch some blueclaw crabs we're going to try to do some rotten Reel Fishing catch our own bait and then go out and and see if we can catch some fluke and whatever else we can catch we're going to jump in the water we're going to tread some clams and uh we're going to eat a whole bunch of stuff Blowfish and soft shell crabs and and clams and all sorts of stuff so we going to spend some time out here in my hometown and uh give you a little idea where I came from it looks like any Town anywhere not like Arizona cuz there's trees here and uh grass you don't have to water but it's just normal it's a normal town man just houses and trees and narrow streets and like no building over two stories tall the vehicle that we're in right now is a sprinter van um Dad had bought it to transport crabs up and down the Eastern Seaboard uh to get a better price for crabs but when it's not in use like right now he's not transporting crabs anywhere so it's kind of a spare vehicle um that I use when I'm up here so that I have transportation I have to use Dad's truck um So the plan plan was to buy this and catch crabs up here in New York and then drive them down to New Jersey or Delaware or Maryland or Virginia um where the price is better than the price is up here just a couple houses away from the house that I grew up in I haven't driven past this place in uh in a long time so I don't know what it still looks like but it is no it can't be that house so the house I grew up in just the one-story Ranch oh my God I think they made it into a two-story house so the house I grew up in NOP it's this house right here they made it into a two-story giant house with a flag pull out front that's my house right there that's it that's where I grew up right there doesn't look anything like what it looked like when I grew up so but I was also I moved out in 96 to go do my undergrad so we're coming up to my high school here although I played soccer in college I didn't play I didn't do anything in in high school I didn't play any sports um what I did was I worked I worked out on the bay and that was really my big thing I A lot of times hunted Ducks um before school culturally insensitive or not East I slip is the home of the redond um that's my my high school mascot this is the same high school that my grandfather went to and my dad went to and I went to this side of the school here um is where all the science buildings are and in high school just like we do now um we always catch kind of interesting things seahorses and trigger fish and spiny Blowfish and all sorts of kind of weird little things that we catch in the traps well in high school I would keep all of those I keep them alive and aerated um and I'd bring them here and stock the science aquarium tanks with all the stuff from the base like baby Blowfish baby porgis um baby seab bass all that stuff we bring them here so that kids could see the the natural fish that are part of the ecosystem that's here in the Great South Bay as a kid I was all through these Woods I mean hunting and messing around and building Forts and you know just sneak around in the woods being sneaky kids not doing anything just looking for deer and rabbits and squirrels and stuff but through all over here all these little blocks of woods all have have deer in them and squirrels and rabbits and stuff that I used to chase when I was a kid and uh yeah man now I'm now I'm back looking at them and I still want to kind of crawl through there and see what's in there this yard is used to be a friend of mine's house and I used to hunt on the edge here when I was when I was a kid because it was the edge of the nature Sanctuary but I could archery hunt in his backyard not on the nature Sanctuary harvested a couple do just you know for for meat same way I do now um but that was it was really cool that I ended up just having happen to make friends there um and his house so all of this is nature Sanctuary all the way down this is where East is Marina is how cool is that this is New York this is East eelo we're down east ecel Marina hi um just like I have a hundred times before went to my favorite Deli got a breakfast sandwich it's part of being on Long Allen when I come here is I go to I go to my favorite Deli in iip I get a breakfast sandwich come down to East iip Marina just look out over the water like I did pretty much my whole life so it's kind of neat that I can sit here and from here I could see my dad's troll of blowfish pots um that he probably worked already this morning this is like seeing you know his work just from here just right offshore I've hunted right off of this pier here um I mean all the all the stuff that I've done in my life before I went to Arizona um so much of it is related to the water and this Shoreline this Bay this town so it's kind of it's always cool being back it's kind of nostalgic the Statue of Liberty Due West of here is about 44 miles away so it's uh it's pretty far uh there's nothing anywhere around here that you could see that's more than two stories tall um it's kind of just a normal coastal town most people think in New York City Manhattan you know the five burrows um it's nothing like it out here my great-grandfather was a carpenter and built a ton of the houses that are around here um the house that's right here has a very specific style and it's front with a front door windows and and then a little Dormer up top and he built all the houses that look like this were all built I don't even I don't even know when but it was a long time ago and um but it's this specific style and then all the roads down here are all named after my family members um so all you know old aunts and uncles that have all passed like we're on Andrew now and Charles and these are all all aunts and uncles and cousins kinunda place is kind of a weird name but I had an aunt named kenag Gunda might have been a great aunt might have been my dad's Aunt so my great aunt um but it's it's a family name and you never see it anywhere um and no one I'm sure no one around here knows where the name of that road came from but it's it's in my family when I was a kid one of my best friend's dads rented this place for his business well the back of this business backs up to the lake we used to have that 12T flat bottom aluminum boat so it's not only saltwater that I was F fishing I fished a ton of fresh water and this was my access into that Lake there's no Public Access here um there's a school here and there's all just houses that go all the way around and then there's this lake so I used to make flies and catch bass and pan fish here and we would just have a flat bottom 12ft aluminum boat with a set of ores and we would row and anchor all over here and just cast over all these zilly pads so this was my absolute favorite Lake to fish um not for any reason not like I caught giant fish here or anything but it just it always produced it was close to the dock the docks right down the road and uh I never saw another person out on this Lake I was the only person I've ever seen fishes we'd fish streams like this um for trout my dad did it as a kid and then he taught me and I fish the same streams catch native brook trout um and then DEC or the New York Department of Environmental Conservation used to stock these streams with with trout also so you'd stocked fish and you'd catch Naturals all right guys so that's the nickel tour of the area that I grew up uh Bayshore I East IOP IOP Terrace um kind of the the general area that I grew up in um stay tuned cuz we're going to do we're going to get out on the bay and we're going to do some crabbing and some clamming and get out on Dad's boat for some Blowfish and uh eat a whole bunch of cool stuff so stay tuned
