new morning uh dad's out on the big boat so he went out with his crew he's going to do some crabing he doesn't take days off so he's only going to work a half day today so he's out working some crab gear uh Sam and I are going to go we're going to set some mow minnow pots and we'll try to get some bait and then we're going to go hook and line fishing for fluke later on today all these little dimples in the water here are all peanut bunker um or a small man hayen they're really common bait um we use them all the time we use them for for fluke and and blue fish and Chum and all sorts stuff so I'm going to try to cast net some and we'll use them for bait later on so we're just going to throw that net and we're going to catch fish like this we're going to use these in crab pots tomorrow so all we're doing is really we're just catching dad some bait behind the marina is all this Marsh where we're going to be setting all the traps for killes uh klies are a bait fish like a minnow my dad when I was real young used to drop me off uh at this Marina with a little 12 foot flap botum aluminum boat and like a five horse and I would mess around all through all these drains and uh set traps and catch crabs in here and look at deer in the marsh and I'd go for hikes and I do all sorts of stuff but this was this was one of the biggest places where I I played as a kid so these were called in the crab pots yesterday and then we're going to crush them up and we're going to use them for bait today yep that'll work and that's it so we're going to do one here we're going to go down down the shoreline and do another one and there's all these fish here and I've got some spare time so I'm literally just throwing a cast net um getting bunker for Dad um not because I have to but because it's kind of fun and uh and I want him yep just the traffic cop oh that was a terrible throw so there's jelly fish in here um they're just you know they're part of the ecosystem doing whatever jellyfish do and uh so they're in here like they get caught in the net we just throw them back so these jellyfish aren't um they look like this you can't even see them they're totally clear um but these aren't the ones that have stingers I got them right here oh no that would have been a great throw so I got them on that one so even though even though the uh cast is kind of half fast you could still get some really good fish we picked Dad up at the dock we're going to go check those Killy pots and then we're going to go do some clamming and also try to catch some flu cooking line so that's what we set up for this morning what did you do today I went out and I got in about 80 crab pots that needed uh to be cleaned and stacked to be put away for next season season and now we're going to go fishing and now we're going fishing claming and have some fun in a previous life um I was assigned to a lake Patrol Division and um when I first got on they were like oh we got to teach you how to drive a boat and I was like I got a pretty good idea on how to drive a boat cuz they had no idea that I had grown up out here and um so one year I go through the course as a student and the next year I went through as a certified Close Quarters watercraft instructor um so and I spent the majority of my time uh in the lake Patrol Division on the water um doing teaching other people how to drive boats um cuz I grew up out here and I had I had my instructor whoever knew that being a cop in in Arizona I would take something that I learned here on the Great South Bay and use it there but man I've used a ton of stuff do we have bait we got bait I was crabbing with my father right where we are when I was five or six years old so that would be 1952 53 so my whole life is been spent right here um then I taught Frankie uh all this stuff and he would go out and catch all the kiles for the store there we Go's going to be too small so all we're going to do is let him go back in I hooked him in the eye oh that was a good hit too on nice I'm down dad two to nothing typical typical he's just got the touch man he's got old man luck old man skills I don't know what the hell I'm doing that's why I'm catching them all you people that know what you're doing don't catch anything it's probably a strange amount of Truth to that somehow oh I got a blue fish nice if I can get it in oh you what are you doing got it fish man yeah so this a little blue fish these things have crazy teeth you do not want to be just sticking your this is not the type of fish that you want to lip so you got crazy teeth I can't believe it didn't bite the hook off they're really good to eat you want to keep them yes Dad says yes that's a fluke well let me get the Nets apparently that's my job just netting dad's fish all day that thing's got some pull to it I can't get it to come up oh that's a nice one holy CRA don't hold them so close to the edge son what's the matter with you so we got a pretty good wind blowing from the north northwest which is coming this way and the tide is going this way so even though it's a pretty good wind we're really not moving a whole lot it's making a making for a hard drift cuz the wind and the tide are fighting each other not an issue that you have a lot in Arizona I give I haven't caught one yet like nothing Sam just throws a line in Sam catches a fish dad's killing them one after the other I got five he actually you might have six I just haven't caught anything so I don't know what the deal is [Music] today just not my day there you go I don't know what you think I think he's small way he goes don't that again if you multiply how many fish you caught by 10 how many would what what would your answer be nothing zero see this fish that's Sam's fish you know it's not my fish because I haven't caught anything yet Sam caught this fish it's a little baby blue fish we're probably going to let it go but Sam caught it and it's one more fish than I've caught so Sam's a better fisherman today and a better cameraman and yet it's better I I don't know what else to say I don't know today's not my day all right internet so I didn't get skunk today so I caught a fluke it's on the deck right now um I just rebaited my line and threw it over but not exactly not the biggest fish of the day but a nice fish we're going to release it back into the wild see if we can get something a little bigger but I didn't get skunked and that's what's most important gone now I'm halfway to matching Sam cuz Sam has two fish and now I have one and with Sam and I put together we still haven't caught as many fish as Dad but he's got old MMA
