Hey sir, >> open the door. Open the door. Open the door. Open the door now. >> Open the door and come out now. Now. [screaming] Now. Now. Walk out with your hands up. >> Walk out with your hands up. Come to me. >> He pointed there at you. Are you able? Can you show me how he pointed it at you with using your hand? >> Like that. >> Shut up, [ __ ] You're not going nowhere. Criminals on the run often think they're one step ahead. But what happens when the cops flip the [music] script and catch them completely off guard? >> I don't know what it looks like, but I didn't. >> I knocked him back. We woke you up. >> Oh, yeah. Y'all woke me up. >> This is a hardworking guy that worked his ass off his whole life and just had his truck stolen. >> Yeah. Well, I get that. But you were saying that I had something to do with it just cuz somebody >> That's what we've been hearing. >> Well, I mean, we're not here. We're not here. Somebody's saying a [ __ ] lie about >> So what I need you to do I need you to >> uh we'll get that but just put your hands above your head. >> I'm down, sir. I'm down. Stay down. >> I am down. I'm not going to move. >> Stay down. >> Here are jaw-dropping moments when cops surprise criminals on the run. Beginning with the unsettling case of 23-year-old Stefan Ortiz, a predator so consumed by his intentions that he crossed state lines to pursue a minor, [music] believing he was untouchable until cops surprised him in his hotel room. >> What's wrong with boys your own age? >> I know what's wrong with boys your own age. But at 23, when you get a little bit older, you're going to be like, 23 year olds want to hang out with 15y olds. >> No, that's good. >> Huh? >> Where's these? Is there anything you would like to talk to us about right now? >> Like what? >> Like maybe like who you really are. >> Say you already know them. >> Mhm. >> On the 27th of March 2022, officers from the Jonesboro Police Department were called to a residence after a worried father reported a disturbing encounter. He had discovered 23-year-old Steven Ortiz [music] parked in a church parking lot with his 15year-old daughter. The confrontation escalated, but Steven managed to escape before the father could stop him. When officers arrived, they searched the surrounding neighborhood for Steven, but he was nowhere to be found. With the search hitting a dead end, they turned their attention to the girl, detaining her for safety before speaking with the father. It was then that the pieces of troubling history between Steven and the girl began to unfold. A past riddled [music] with secrecy and concerning behavior. Mhm. What's dispatch? $15 down to one when the female spent it. If >> I cancel I can cancel it right now. >> Cancel what? >> Her >> her? Yeah. >> No, juveniles already made the decision to take her. >> Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. There it is. >> Is it her name over here? >> What's your name? You know. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. We We have any control over juveniles. Once we make a phone call to juvenile, they they basically have final say so at that point. >> Okay. Uh, and they don't like juveniles hooking up with adults. >> Mr. Mr. Wright, are you like the the high ranking officer here? >> No. >> Okay. >> I just I'm just I would just grab >> Okay. So, I probably need you to speak to the mother because I feel like you have more >> Okay. Who's the mother? >> She's on the phone with him and I just feel like >> I I handed uh I handed them the phone back and they were still on speaker phone and then so she heard all the yelling and commotion going on. >> Okay. >> So, she called back trying to figure out what was going on. She gets it and hangs out. >> Well, this ensures that you don't have to worry about her sneaking out in the middle of night. Something happen to her. So, >> if it even if it's just for a night, it's not you don't have to worry about it. >> Has she been enrolled in school yet? >> That's the thing. The mom >> I don't know what's going on. >> You just seen she just hangs up on me. I'm trying to have her talk. >> Uh, so the mom, >> let me just tell you a quick story how it all went. >> But right now, we're in spring break, so it's no big deal. But if she's not enrolled, that's fine. Uh, but if she's enrolled in a school here, I need to I I got to send a form to the uh the uh um the school resource officer that's there. So, is she was she scheduled to go to school when spring break's over with yet? Okay. Or is that still in process? >> That is still in process. >> Okay, cool. I'm good with that. >> She can't uh she got in trouble over there in school. Get kicked out of school. >> And that was in Oklahoma. >> Oklahoma. Mama sent her over here so she can get straightened out. Uh mama don't send no papers. >> She don't want to help. She don't want to do nothing. >> She had she had a phone. >> Where is the phone? >> No, she You broke it. >> No, she broke it inside the house. She broke it inside the house and then >> How did she find out if he was there? >> He He that the guy >> She broke her phone, so we couldn't find anything out about him. >> Yes. >> Uhhuh. So, there's another that he brought her another phone. >> Oh, there you go. >> So, I don't know. >> Does she have a driver's license or anything like that? >> No, she's 15. >> You know her social? >> No. >> No. >> They're barely sending that stuff. So where's her other phone at that he brought this? Do he still have it or >> she she had it or he had it? >> They just married. >> He's having just today. She just decided to leave one of the motel and Uber and over here. >> The father disclosed to the officers the troubling backstory of his daughter and Steven's shenanigans back in their home in Oklahoma. Despite the distance, Steven had traveled all the way to Jonesboro to pursue the relationship. With this critical information, the officers collected details about Steven and prepared to expand their search. Their next stop, the nearby hotels, where they hope to uncover Steven's whereabouts before the [music] situation could escalate further. >> What can you guys for that day? >> Like >> the only thing we at this point, we have no charges on him. Um, if there's any charges of past behavior, it's in Oklahoma. Um, making out, it's it's there's there's going to be a really hard it's going to be a really hard thing for us to be able to fit any charges for making out, especially if he turns out to only be 18 cuz we have a Juliet law. Yeah. >> Uh, and that's a three age. There's a three age. Uh, uh, they have up to three years. Anything past that, even for sexual activity, is uh, so a 15 and 18-year-old can have sex as long as they're in a relationship and it's consenting, uh, underneath the Romeo Juliet laws. Uh, so it would be really hard, but I would, um, uh, there's things you can do. You can't take a 15-year-old, you know, out, you know, you know, out. That's interference with custody. He's trying to take her. So, we need to try to get him make contact with him and get him make the decision that it's time for him to get back on the Greyhound and go back to Oklahoma or Dallas. So, uh >> then there >> we're going to go to the hotels. Yeah, we're going to go to the hotels and try to uh see if any of them has has him his Steven our >> Okay. Stephen Arts on file as a as a guest and we'll make contact with him if he does. >> Okay. Uh would you be notified where >> you guys let us know? >> I would I tend typically no, >> but I would I personally would reach out to you and let you know that contact was made. Uh I can't tell you where he's at or anything like that. I can't I can't just in case something h you know like y'all are parents. I get it. I'm not going to you know but I'm not going to let I'm not going to let you be a dad even though I understand. You know what I mean? Yes sir. Yes sir. So I can't I can't provide an avenue for that. But I can say I make contact with him and advise that, you know, we know what's going on in the city. This is not going to happen while uh [music] uh while in the city of Jonesboro, state of Arkansas. So unless he wants to spend a lot of time uh as a as a permanent resident of Arkansas uh in Arkansas corrections, it [music] would be probably a good idea for him to uh go ahead and uh find a bus to get out of town. >> Yes, sir. Okay. >> After finishing their conversation with the father, the officers turned their attention to the girl, their tone [music] firm yet compassionate. They explained the seriousness of her actions, making sure she understood the weight of the situation. With no time to waste, they escorted her to the station where the full reality of the unfolding events would soon come to light. >> You have anything in your pockets? Anything like that? There >> I mean your hoodie pockets. There was nothing in there. No phones. Okay, I'm going give you a quick check >> and then cuz we kind of got fast in here. Okay. Any You got any questions? >> Uh what am I going for? >> So you're going you're going to >> Can you fix my beanie? It's like in my eye. Yeah, absolutely. >> Is that better? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, uh, so here's the thing. I contacted the juvenile office. I didn't make this decision alone. Actually, I didn't make this decision at all. Our juvenile department in Arkansas, they have all deciding factors, uh, when it comes to juvenile cases. >> So, given the circumstances of everything that's going on here, uh, you're being charged with domestic battery third. So, which is a like a family family domestic family battery. Um, so, um, I'm not sure I'm not not saying you're going to be convicted of that, but the big thing is is our juvenile department is afraid they're afraid you're going to end up being a runaway and so they're using the charge to hold you. They probably wouldn't have held you if it wasn't for the circumstances, the whole the entirety of the circumstances here. So, you're probably going to see a judge uh you're probably going to see a judge tomorrow and get a bond. your mom may have may be ordered to come from Oklahoma to here um to to take custody of you cuz I don't think your dad has primary custody of you. Correct. >> No. >> Yeah. So, your mom uh your mom may be ordered, but that's going to be up to juvenile and your mom. So, they're probably going to reach out to her uh reach out to her and uh see if uh when they're going to be there. >> Uh I probably they're probably not going to hold you past tomorrow. >> Okay. All right. Uh what about my stuff? How is that going to work? >> Well, your stuff's here, correct? >> Yes. >> So, uh at some point, uh if your mom does take custody of you, uh I've already went over this with your dad, we'll we'll come back here and do a civil standby while um while, uh you grab your things. Okay. >> Um what if my mom doesn't want to take me? >> Um well, if your mom doesn't want to take you, then your dad's going to be given the opportunity to take you. If your dad doesn't take you, then at some point you'll become a ward of either you'll become a ward of either Arkansas or Oklahoma depending on how the how the state laws work and where you're currently residing. >> Even if I'm about to turn 16. >> Yeah, it's 18. So ain't that for us. Okay. >> So you wanted to So what do you >> I'm asking where's the other phone? Did you guys search her before you guys stuck her in last week? >> No. So that's what he was just doing. >> What's that? >> Oh, you searched her. She didn't have no phone on her. Okay. So, do you most have to? >> Yeah. So, you don't have that phone number or anything, do you? No. Okay. >> Uh, you guys don't mind me talking to her one more time before you guys go? >> That's up to y'all. Yeah. >> I just wanted to say that, you know, uh, >> um, Oh, you're driving, man. Well, >> okay. >> Okay, it's on. Have a good one. I'll make sure I call your mom and let her go. What's going on? >> Once at the station, the girl opened up, revealing [music] shocking details about her actions. Details the officers had not expected. After dropping her off at the station, the officers wasted no time and resumed their search for Steven. >> Besides this whole boy thing in Oklahoma, what'd you get in trouble for? >> That's it. >> That's it. school problems or anything like that. You get clear out school. >> I got expelled. >> Expelled? What'd you get spelled for? >> Skipping. >> Skipping. >> So they So you skip school. So their their punishment is to tell you not to come back to school. >> That's what I >> That makes no sense. >> I guess not go to school for not going to school. >> That makes no sense. But >> you know play sports or anything over there? >> No, I don't do sports. I tried to run with him because he told me to run and I couldn't keep up. So, I just stopped and just let him run off because I couldn't keep up. So, I was just like, "Whatever." >> How old is he? >> 23. >> 23. >> What's wrong with boys your own age? >> I know what's wrong with boys your own age, but 23, I mean, >> when you get a little bit older, you're going to be like, 23 year olds want to hang out with 15 year olds? Something's wrong with him. >> Yeah, I've thought about that a lot, but I don't know. >> Does he do anything to work or anything? >> Yeah, he works. >> I felt like 14, 15. >> I get it. I get it. >> I got a 14-year-old daughter. I understand. How you going? >> The officers soon tracked Steven [music] to a nearby hotel, but he was a smart one and had weaved a web of lies so well constructed that the cops started [music] having doubts as to his identity. And for the moment, looks like he was going to slip through their fingers. >> All right. Where's Maris? >> No. Oscar. >> Huh? Oscar. >> Where's Maris? >> Uh, he's outside right now. >> Outside where? >> Yeah, he puts a gas station in there. >> Station right there. >> Yeah. You for me? Oh, yeah. >> You're not You're not You have ID? Uh, no. I don't. >> You don't? >> No. Change your name there real quick. Oscar. >> Oscar. When's the last time you saw him? >> Uh, 20 minutes. We just found everything. >> Yeah. >> You haven't been anywhere else? >> We stopped by Oklahoma. >> Ala. >> Yeah. No, she's never been over here. >> We've only been here like >> cuz we were at that hotel for like 2 weeks and then we came over here just like So y'all been here for about two 2 weeks? >> No, what about a month? >> Yeah. >> Oh, we're there for 2 weeks and then y'all just came >> and then Yeah, we were at the hotel down there for another 2 weeks. Like just more down the hill something. >> All right. Yeah. Oh yeah. All right. So, so, so you know why he came here? >> He said he was he was right. Um, and how old is he? He's 23, correct? 23. Yeah. 23. Okay. And would you mind to satisfy us? Do you mind if we do a quick scan? Make sure you know. Okay. Is this his girl? >> Which way? >> Oh, yeah. Those are his pictures he has of her. >> Yeah. >> He just straight put him right there on the table and he just laughed. He said he was going to the gas station. >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you, sir. >> Have a good day. >> You, too. Thinking he had successfully fooled the officers, Steven relaxed, confident that his lies had worked. But the calm did not last long. Hours later, the officers returned. This time with renewed determination, ready to unravel the truth and catch him off guard. >> So, is he back in yet? >> Uh, no. I was texting him right now. >> Okay. All right. Okay. You guys, can you step out of the room for me? >> Yeah. Okay. >> He's going to he's going to just search you for weapons. Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. Can you put your hands up here for me? Is that Oscar, right? >> Yeah. All right. All right, you're good. Just stand out here and we'll explain what's going on. >> I was just texting him right now. I caught him like four or five times and he has >> the answer. Okay. >> Hey, made contact with you since we left. >> Uhuh. I texted him. Yo, yeah, he text me back though. >> When? >> Like 20 minutes ago. 30 minutes ago. >> All right. What did he say? >> He said that he's going to be back tomorrow. He's going to stay at his girl's house. >> Okay. But that's not going to happen. >> What do you mean? >> Okay. Well, she's uh she's she's not she's not going to be uh she's not going to be available for for some time. >> Okay. >> Okay. Here's the thing. Right now, um uh there's going to be a search warrant going to be issued for this this room. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Uh so until that happens, uh no one else can enter this room. Okay. >> Okay. So, I have to stay outside. >> Uh you have to stay outside. You can also send our patrol car for warmth. Okay. You have a coat. No, I don't. >> Okay. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to bring uh it's probably not going to be me. It's probably stay with me cuz I'm I'm not going to be around here much longer, but we're going to allow you to sit in the car to stay warm. Okay. >> Do you have hard soft seats? >> Hard. Okay. Um for right now, I'm going to bring my car over here. Okay. >> And let you sit in the back. Okay. You're not you're not in any trouble. Okay. >> But um and I'm not saying your brother's in any trouble. Okay. >> Okay. But there's some things that's kind of came to light that we've got to investigate and that's as we're in the process of doing that. Okay. Yeah. Like I said, you're not >> I didn't tell him about that child and came over. I just told him if it was okay, like what's going on and text me? >> Um All right. Um >> get Oh, could I get my phone and stuff? >> You can't have your phone. Okay. It's part of it's it's going to be part of Unfortunately, it's going to be part of the search. Okay. Yeah. >> Uh and so we we'll we'll work with you on that here once we get all that completed. Okay. Yeah. >> About when we can get that back to you. Okay. Uh it should be tonight. >> Okay. Bring the car up. >> Yeah. Go ahead and bring the um Okay. You got to >> There may be some people that may want to ask you some some questions and things like that right there. Okay. >> So, the reason why I say this, for some reason, if you got hurt and had needed to get medical, technically your brother doesn't have rights to give permission for certain medical procedures. >> Okay. Yeah, that's fine. So that's who we we would need to talk to if if certain things happen. We would need to get permission to talk to them before we do that. So if you want to at this point, we're going to have you go down cuz I I'm cold wearing all this right here and I got long sleeves and this this hot vest and I I'm sitting here shivering. >> Uh I have you go with uh um uh >> Gomez. Oh, Gomez. >> Uh no, not Gomez. The officers, now determined to uncover the truth, decided to conduct a thorough search of the room. As they moved in, Steven was escorted to the police vehicle where he sat in uneasy silence, knowing the walls were closing in. What they would find inside could be the turning point. And Steven's fate now hung in the balance. Right. >> Y'all got a key. >> Yeah, I just cracked it open. >> Sorry, boy. >> Whose phone? You know, >> that's the brother's phone, Oscar. I wouldn't let him have it. Okay. He was texting brother. >> Is this the juvenile? >> Yes, it is. >> Okay. Um, another phone right here. >> He bought a phone for her cuz she had damaging uh incriminating stuff on her phone, so she broke it in half. >> The photo camera was >> here. If y'all step back, I'm going to take an overall. >> Yeah. I don't want to be in that future. >> I didn't think so. >> So, this is brother's phone. >> Yes, that's Oscar. His brother, >> man, I don't know about taking it. Did we put down? Will you put You can pull the warn out. Go ahead and leave a war on the table. >> Is this [music] I'm sorry. >> Mhm. >> This is the juvenile. >> This is the juvenile. >> Okay. Cuz I haven't seen her >> 100%. >> Okay. >> The one that caught my eye was this one cuz I thought it was an actual nude. >> Yeah. I got you. I got you. Well, now we can uh take a picture of the bathroom just for giggles. Look more for >> you. Start looking. >> Yep. I'm off. >> Get that. >> With the truth about Steven finally uncovered, the officers returned the next day ready to bring him in. But what they didn't anticipate was his reaction. Yes, sir. >> Hey, you mind if we come in again? >> Oh, yeah. Sure. Okay, sure. >> Did your brother ever come back? >> No, he hasn't even texted me or nothing. I tried to call him and his phone was off and everything. >> Okay. Or um um you can take your hands out your pockets for you. Uh again, I don't quite remember. What was your name again? Oscar. >> Oscar. Okay. Hey, Oscar. Uh so, at this time, I'm ask you to turn around, put your hands behind your back. Okay. Okay. >> [music] >> I explain to you here in just a little bit. Okay. I got to make phone call. You have a seat, man. Okay. >> Is there anything you would like to talk to us about right now? Like what? >> Like maybe like who you really are. >> So you already know that. >> Mhm. Yeah. >> Okay. >> I only feel I only didn't want to say anything cuz I already knew cuz the last minute she told me when I was running away she was fixing. >> Okay. You're very cool under pressure. I'm very impressed. >> Am I going to have to leave all my stuff here? >> Uh cuz I kind of need like most [music] of my stuff. I got you. Uh, really just my phone. >> Where's your phone at? >> It's right there under the blankets. Right there. >> In the blankets. >> Yeah. Okay. >> All right, Stephen. Where is uh You have a phone on you? >> Yes, sir. It's >> okay. >> My mom was text me all the time. I know this one is not it's not activated. Correct. >> I was supposed to get that. >> That was supposed to be hers. I know. Uh where's it? Where's that one at? >> It's right there by the radio. >> Okay. Gotcha. Excellent. I didn't see it. All right. All right. Go ahead. Stand up for me. You want to put some shoes on? >> Yeah, please. >> Absolutely. Are they loose enough? You can split in one. >> Yeah. All right. >> You almost got it. >> Yep. >> Oh, can y'all get my social ID, too? >> Where's that at? Right here. Shelter by shelter city this in your pocket. Okay. >> Is there anything else in your pocket? >> No. >> All right. Right now you're only being your only charge is just obstruction of government operation and that's just because we were a part of investigation. You lied about who you were. >> Yeah. >> No big deal on that. Okay. >> Following his arrest, Steven finally admitted to the unsettling truth. He and the girl had been involved in a relationship for about a month. During this time, he confessed to intimate activities on multiple occasions, nearly 10 times, and even exchanged [music] explicit photos. This shocking revelation added a disturbing layer to the case, leaving the officers stunned by the depth of his actions. In the end, Steven Ortiz was charged with felony internet stalking of a young person, felony possession, and distribution of a young person's intimate material, a misdemeanor obstruction [music] of governmental operations. Just as Steven was caught off guard, Ryder faced a similar fate. A suspect in a vehicle theft who thought he could fool the officers, unaware that his lies would only bury him deeper. >> All right, knock back. We woke you up. >> This is a hardworking guy that worked his off his whole life and just had a trunk stole somebody. >> That's what we've been hearing. >> Well, I mean, we're not here. We're not here. >> Somebody saying a lie about me is bullied. Uh, >> we'll get that. But just put your hands above your head. I'm down, sir. I'm down. Stay down. >> I am down. I'm not going to move. Stay down. >> On August the 6th, 2023, officers were deployed to a local residence following reports that a suspect tied to a vehicle theft [music] from the previous night was hiding out in a trailer on the property. When the officers arrived, they were greeted by the trailer's owner, who confirmed their suspicions. The man they were looking for was inside. >> I don't know what it looks like. I don't know if that was him or not. >> Oh, no. Y man on the back of my trailer. >> Uh there was an officer that might have been knocking that door back. >> Oh, okay. I already knocked back. >> We woke you up. >> Oh, yeah. Y'all woke me up. >> Supposed to be coming out. We're talking to Preston right now. See what's going on? >> Yeah. Is that him? >> He's putting his shoes on. We'll talk to him over here. >> Ryder finally came out and was confronted by the officers. Calm yet defensive, he denied every allegation thrown his way. But just when it seemed the situation might cool down, the officers received a critical update. Ryder had an active warrant. In an instant, [music] the encounter shifted from a routine confrontation to a tense and nerve-wracking standoff where every move mattered. >> So, you guys think your name will get brought up with these stolen cars? >> So, like So, like a couple of them we still can't find. So, if you steal a car and you return it within 24 hours, >> I I own that. I don't really have any >> not return 24 hours. That's because of felony. >> So, we're trying to find these cars. >> I got probation. >> Yeah. >> You weren't around any of them? >> No, I wasn't around truck. So, one of the guys that a truck was stolen from, he's a pastor. He didn't want nothing to happen. He's really upset. Couldn't even make it to church this morning. And like Alex said, he had 24 hours. You got 24 hours to find the vehicle as it turned into a felony. Yes. >> And for you, that means prison. >> Yeah. >> That GTR. So, I mean, I don't really have to read. >> So, none of your none of your fingerprints are alcohol, even compartment. Nothing like that. >> Nothing like that. Okay. >> This is your chance. And if they are, they're ass. >> If I knew where they at, I'd tell you right now, but I >> So, who would know? I don't know. We know you guys are involved. Like you think of anywhere these people will be dumb. >> Don't go assuming that we're all involved if any of us are involved. >> Yeah. So we've got >> that's why we're here. >> Yeah. Right. >> Yeah. >> So we like literally like if you guys are passengers or whatever that's like something where we want to recover the truck. It's like this is a hardworking guy that worked his ass off his whole life. He just had his truck stolen. >> Yeah. Well, I get that. But you were saying that I had something to do with it cuz somebody >> that's what we've been hearing. >> Well, I mean we're not here. We're not here. Somebody saying a bull lie about me is [ __ ] lie. Whether it's the end of the day or the beginning of the day, >> you know, we're not here just messing around. It's, you know, it's not cold at night with the boys. We're here for a reason. >> Well, yeah, I get that. >> So, we're just trying to figure it out like if they're dumped somewhere like kids or kids screw it around or whatever. Again, that is what it is. We just don't want it to turn into a felony. Then it's a bigger deal for people. The places I'd look for them would be Park and Ride or Walmart, but I have no idea where they're at. You're not even giving me a vehicle description of either of them. So, I have no idea what you're even looking for. I can't even tell you if they were there or not. Can >> you go wake your lean up so we can talk to? >> Yeah. >> All right. Hey, Ryder. But, uh, you do have a warrant out for arrest through probation. So, we got to take you into custody. >> Yeah. Right now. So, what I need you to do, I need you to uh, >> we'll get that, but just put your hands above your head. Oops. You're not going to win. >> Stay down. You're not going to win. >> Go back in. I'm down, sir. I'm down. >> Stay down. >> I am down. I'm not going to move. >> Stay down. >> I am down. I'm sorry. >> Stop resisting. >> I'm not. >> Stop. >> Don't hurt that. Please. That's hurt. Stop. I'm down. Put your hands behind your back. Yes, sir. >> No. >> Hang on. That one hurt. >> No, >> that hurts. I'm getting there. I'm getting light on my hand. The head's broke. >> Should have thought about that. >> What do I want for though? >> Patient. >> What I do? >> Just as Ryder thought he could outsmart the officers and make his escape, he only made matters worse for himself. But instead of showing remorse, he did the unthinkable towards the officers, forcing the officers to take measures he never expected. >> All right. You got a gas, >> huh? >> You got a gas? >> No. >> My hand just really hurt. Wait here a second. [snorts] It really hurts. It really hurts. Moving on to the case of Seth, a fugitive on the run who thought his girlfriend could protect him from the cops. Little did she know her plan would backfire, dragging her into a mess far worse than she had ever imagined. >> Where did Billy go? What is the point of going inside of anything? >> You know, I know. What's her name? Moments before the cops arrived, the suspects scattered into the night, but the officers were ready. While some chased them down, officers zeroed in on Seth's girlfriend's trailer, convinced he was hiding inside. But his girlfriend was determined to outwit the law. >> No, this is bull. I don't know what the been going on. I'm here for my stuff. This is why I'm leaving this mother. >> Hey, ma'am. Hey. My name is Sergeant Higgotham. I had not seen a truck. >> After a heated [music] standoff with the officers, Seth's girlfriend clung to her lies, protecting him at all costs. But as the cops closed in on the others, Seth's silence started to unravel. With nowhere left to run, he knew it was only a matter of time before he'd have to face the consequences. >> Hey, stop him. My dog will bite you. William, I'm sending him right now. >> William, I'm going to send him. God damn it. I can't get over. Come here. >> Hey, still running down. But if he comes and gives out, I'll just drive away. So, if you could talk to him, I'll let you walk up to the shed and talk to him through the window and try to convince him to come out before I do all this work. I'll follow you guys out. >> The girlfriend tried to pull one last trick, hoping to throw the officers off her trail and buy him more time. But by now, the officers were steps ahead, seeing through [music] her desperate attempts to mislead them. Her efforts, though persistent, were no match for their determination. At this point, it was clear nothing [music] she did could stop them from closing in on Seth and making the arrest. >> He's in here. >> Yeah. >> Is there only one >> path of exit? >> The There's a window on the other side, but it's completely boarded up. Can I inquire of like what it's for and then I can make a consensus, not mine? >> I'm asking you if you're Destiny. Are you Destiny? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. Is Destiny here? >> No, ma'am. >> Huh? >> You're Destiny, right? >> Would you mind if I just made a quick phone call? >> A phone call? Did you? Listen, we just want to talk to you real quick. It's kind of weird when you're holding the door like crash. >> Well, because of the the dogs and I just asking I don't want to get bit by a dog. That's why >> just my comfort and like my just for my own my own >> I can hang out here. We can hang out here. She just wants to >> Okay. Would you mind just for my own comfort and like this is not my home and I could step out for you all. [music] >> It's just odd that on a on a Wednesday that this is happening, you don't know what's going on, >> right? No, I get it. I understand. >> Okay. I'm not we're not here for the homeowner. I'm here to speak with you. So, if you can step out for a second and we'll explain to you what the situation is. >> Um, just for my own safety, like like do you have a warrant or anything like that? >> I need you to answer me first. Are you Destiny Harris? >> No. >> Okay. I don't I don't believe what you're telling me. I know that you're me. So, I'm asking you to come outside for a second, speak with us. >> Okay. Um, could you just give me one second, please, to grab my telephone? It's right by the way. >> You have the door open while you grab [music] it. You can come and make the phone call out here. We'll let you make the phone call, but we do have to help you. If you leave the door open, we'll let you grab your phone. You can make the phone call out here. Is that okay? >> I'm comfortable with that. Is she Are you okay with that? >> Yeah. Can Can we leave the >> Yeah, absolutely. Do you mind if I just put the >> Sure. Okay. The dog skate. The dog can't get out. >> Well, they have Daisy, another dog. So, just put her back here. Okay. When detectives confronted Destiny, she initially tried to deny her identity, hoping to mislead them. But it didn't take long for the truth to surface. The detectives quickly confirmed she was the suspect they had been looking for. With no way to hide, they laid it all out for her, explaining the warrant and the charges tied to her three-year-old scheme. The weight of her actions hit her like a freight train, and her stunned reaction revealed just how unprepared she was for this moment of reckoning. Destiny's past had finally caught up with her and there was no escaping it now. >> Miss Kim. >> Yes. >> Oh, Kim. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yes. Detective. >> Oh, detective. Oh, detective. Okay. >> Yes. There's There's They're all detective. I think they're all detective. They can't see detective [music] one. >> What is going on? Okay. So, [music] there's a warrant for your arrest. Okay. >> Oh my gosh. >> So, that's what that's what we're here for. >> So, I would like to explain more to you and actually sit down and have a conversation with you. Um, but in the meantime, we do [music] need to take you back with us. And because you have your mom on the phone, that's why I'm explaining this to you. >> Um, so that she knows what's going on also. >> Okay. Okay. All right. Um, she won't tell you what the warrant's for. >> It's for fraud. >> It's for >> It's for fraud, but like I said, we'll go back and and [music] sit down and actually I'll tell you. I'll let you >> Yeah, please. >> I'll explain all the charges. Exactly. >> Okay. >> But just because you have her on the phone, that's the only reason why I'm >> as much as I am. >> My mom. That's fine. >> Okay. Um, can you give me your phone to um somebody and then I'm going to call Jakette and then I'll call uh I'll call uh Vinnie I mean not Vinnie um uh Gary right now to see to get details from [music] >> um okay I'm in the middle I need to tell my boss I'm not telling my boss that obviously >> can she tell her boss like >> I work for the federal government myself there's for me for my job security [music] and my children >> are you working right now >> I'm in I'm in a meeting like right now Oh, okay. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, I'm gonna give you that courtesy and we don't normally do that. So, go ahead and make a phone call to [music] your boss and let him know that >> you're going to be, I guess, out for the rest of the day at least. >> What the is going on? [music] Do you have all the context for like what's going on or like what's my children? Is anyone else here [music] adultwise? >> Yeah, they are. >> Dad Dad is here. >> Okay. >> Dad. Dad is here. >> Just cuz you don't obviously want to leave. >> Oh, yeah. That's That's so crazy for what? >> I have no idea. [music] I have no idea. I don't know. I thought I thought it was for something for like [ __ ] what he's handling with the ticket that I took care at the Deerfield Beach Courthouse. I thought that's what it was for, but I'm like, there's no way because I'm not scheduled to go back to that hearing until May 9th. >> All right, let me let me call your kid. Um here, see which one is better. Um and then I'll call Jerry the suicide. >> I don't know how long I'm going to be here. [music] >> She'll be able to Let me give her my phone number. >> Can she Can you take her number? The detectives unexpected arrival threw Destiny off guard. Taking their time to check her home and workplace before the arrest, they heightened the tension, [music] making the inevitable storm that much harder to face. >> You have no idea what it's for. >> Mom, I have [music] no idea. I wouldn't be sitting here right now. I'm literally driving around and walking the streets going to Trader Joe's as if I'm a free person. All right, honey. Just Just let's just go with them. I guess I'm giving her choice to tell him what's going on. >> No, he doesn't know what's going on. I just told him to hurry up and put the dog away. And I I stepped outside quickly. I didn't even I didn't tell him anything. He knows nothing. [snorts] >> All right. All right. Well, let me call Gary. I'm going to call Gary to see if he'll give me information cuz he's over he's over there. >> Okay. All right. Um I need to talk about that arrest. >> Okay. Yeah, there's a warrant. So, um obviously you got the kids and everything and I'm going to have her leave her stuff with you so that we don't have to know how long she'll be in like >> they have they have no idea. I asked >> Yeah. We don't make that determination. So once she goes up to county um then >> what does that what does that mean? So when we take you we take you back to our police department just for processing and to do paperwork and then we'll take you up to county jail where they process >> y'all had like judging [music] >> I don't know it's going to be fine. >> No it's not it's going to be fine. [music] >> I [snorts] need to call my boss mom. I have to go and I need to tell the kids goodbye real quick cuz they've already been standing out here for a while. >> Hey Jake, I have to log off. I have a family [music] emergency and I'll probably need UTO for the rest of the week. >> Okay, >> ballpark. [music] Everything's fine. >> Thank you. I have to go like right now so I can't even give you context, but I'm logging out for the day. and if you could just like put utto in for me so that I can at least you know get paid and whatnot. Um [music] but I I have to step away like now. >> Okay. >> Thank you. [music] >> Okay. Can I just say bye to my kids? >> Yeah. I mean we don't really want you to go back in. So that's the only thing >> bring God. I don't I just don't I don't want them to I don't want that type of anxiety to sit with them. >> You want us to like step out and one of us stay with you and if they come out and just tell them that you got to come and talk to us at the station or something like that. That way you don't have all four of us standing around when they come out and doesn't go through. >> Wait. [music] >> I'm good with that. >> Yeah, I'm good with that. >> Thank you. Destiny was finally led out of her home to be taken to jail. As the detectives escorted her to the waiting police vehicle, the gravity of the situation became undeniable. With nowhere left to turn, she was ready to face the next chapter of her story. [music] One that would begin behind bars. >> I'm going to let you walk down to the car. >> Would you mind cooking here? That's why I said we can go right between the cars over here. If you're going to go in this car over here real quick. Thank you. >> In the end, Destiny was charged with three counts of miscellaneous statements to obtain reemployment benefits and fraud swindling to obtain property under $20,000. Then there's the case of Bridget Bkakei, a fugitive from Russia who believed she'd outsmarted the authorities after an arrest warrant was issued for her. But her freedom came to an end when she got a surprise visit from the police. A visit [music] that didn't end in her favor. >> Bridget. >> No. >> What's your last name? But carti. >> Okay. Can you step out for me? >> I've done nothing wrong. >> I know. >> Yeah. Bridget, stop. Bridget, stop. You Listen, if you if you stop now, we won't charge you with RNO. You know this isn't your house anymore. >> I just recently found out that I have no family. >> On April the 20th, 2024, officers arrived at a residence to serve an arrest warrant for a woman who was being trespassed from the property. As they approached her, everything seemed routine. That is until they informed her of the warrant. Her response left the officers in great disbelief and shock. >> She here she's in there. >> She's not 320. >> She's not. >> She's right there in the passenger seat. So, >> okay. >> Bridget. >> No. >> What's your last name? >> Barti. >> Okay. Can you step out for me? >> I've done nothing wrong. >> I know. >> All right. Do me a favor and spin around. Just behind your back. I >> Why are you rushing me? >> Stop. Bridget, >> you you have under No, >> we'll talk. We'll talk about it for now. Comply. >> So, >> don't don't do anything stupid. We don't want to get you an RO2. Okay. >> Sound good? >> We're going to look into this warrant. >> And go from there. >> There's no warrant for me. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Put your hands together. Put your hands together. >> I have Bridget. >> Bridget, you have rights. Yep. Bridget, put your hands together like you're praying. >> Hands together. Bridget, put your hands together like you're praying. >> Yeah. Bridget, stop. Bridget, stop. You'll listen. If you >> If you stop now, we won't charge you with RO. Do you understand? >> But I Please stop that. Stop. Bridget. >> I used to live here. >> Okay. Now you get an RO. >> No. No. I used to live here. My forgotten my mom was scared because >> let's walk to my car. I brought her. >> Ma'am, did you bring her here? >> I did. I was trying to I was trying to help her. We did. She told me she thought that >> I'll be back. Talk Okay, let me I'll talk to you in a sec. Bridget, do you have anything illegal on you? >> No. >> No, no weapons, no bombs. >> No. No. Okay. >> Please. Please. >> Walk over here. >> Please. me. I miss person. Please check the FBI. Please listen to me. The Russians are looking for me. Please visit with me. >> When the officers presented the warrants, Bridget's response was shocking. She claimed to be a missing person and said the Russian government was after her. Her bizarre outburst in resistance added an extra charge. But the real twist came when officers spoke to the homeowners who'd called them. How >> you doing, officer? >> Good. How are we doing? >> Good. I'm fine. >> No, you're fine. Homeowners. >> Yes, sir. Okay. >> I am just a pharmacy tech who was trying to help her. I gave her a place to stay a week >> over Christmas time. >> One second. >> She showed up against me every day. I've been homeless. >> Hold on to her so I can put this on. >> Please listen to me. I'm missing person. I'm missing person. Please call me. Please. >> Bridget, do you have anything illegal on you? >> Love me so much. I feel nothing wrong. Do you have anything illegal on you? What's in your pockets? >> You've made search. I mean no harm. Please hear me out. >> Okay, we're gonna confirm, but it looks like you got a warrant. So, >> could you please recheck until you rush right here? My camera's >> I will explain why Russia is after me. You can check my dear with the FBI, sir. Please, please have compassion for me. >> Yeah, I'm good. >> Please feel healthy. I am suffering. Whose house this is was they bought it? >> Why are you here? >> My mom's house with >> Well, Bridget, you know this isn't your house. And >> I just recently found out and but I have no family. Could you check? >> Is this >> It's not illegal to have >> Oh, yes. >> Okay. >> It's not illegal. Just asking. >> Is my mother and without money? >> Is this lady helping you? >> Yes, she is. She bought these groceries in her bag. >> Why did we bring Bridget here today? >> Um because she [snorts] had just well she showed up at my work today. I got out of work at 4:00. Um and it's been getting colder. I took her out to dinner and um she's been sleeping in the street and then she told me she remembered that her mom had gave her the house and in um I'm sorry I'm nervous and stressed to myself. Uh had deeded her the house. She has been homeless. She didn't have a ride. She doesn't have money. And so, um, she asked me if I would bring her out here. >> Mhm. >> I did. And then they were here and then she I can't tell cuz she seems so sincere sometimes and but then it then, you know, some people at the pharmacy have a bet that she's schizophrenic and I don't know. Um, but she thought that these people would let her stay the night. I was about to take her to the Red Bin um and pay for her night. I um pay for a night for her. I just bought her a whole bunch of groceries. >> Bridget stuck to her story about the Russians, but the cops just weren't buying it. Before taking her to jail, the homeowners dropped a shocking revelation about her. So, we bought groceries. Please listen to me. We bought groceries and you can talk. We bought groceries. That is a pill I need to take to the FBI that brought the evidence. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Who's trying to leave? >> Um, Russia. >> Russia. >> We're far from Russia. >> No, we're not. We're big problems. >> No, just turn away. Turn it towards for There you go. >> It's Republican. It's for Republicans. >> Republicans who? Hey, >> you got a lot of stuff in your pockets, girl. >> Republicans fame my house and I'm the house, but I don't know what to do cuz my entire country is going to I've asked her like 10 times, are you sure you want to go back here? Cuz I didn't think that was a wise idea. I'm like, just take it to the Red R. >> No. No. I no I know that that they're going to let me stay. They're going to be nice. They're going to let me stay. >> Nope. >> No chance. [laughter] So >> yeah. Well, my newborn that's not going to go well either. >> I figure. All right. Uh we're going to she she's got a warn out. We're going to figure this out. >> Uh you know what? I'm not exactly sure. But u something. But we're going to figure it out if they if they want her or not. So we're going to work through that right now. >> That's also part of her story, too. She keeps saying she's being taken and that >> some police are in on this. >> We we've had a lot of runins with we've we've dealt with Bridget a lot. >> Really? >> Yep. >> That's what he took. >> So, no, that's fine. Yeah, we we've dealt with her a lot. We're familiar. >> So, with Bridget now in custody and ready to be transported to jail, the officers took a moment to dig deeper into the story. They carefully gathered every detail from the callers, piecing together the full extent of her deceitful action. >> Have you been to jail before, Bridget? Huh? Bridget. Hey, you've been to jail before? >> Yes. So, you know that if you bring anything illegal in there because it will be an extra felony charge, right? Do you have your ID on you? >> It's in this pocket over there. >> Over where? right here. >> Oh, is it the your All right, let's walk back here. >> All righty. Let me check these cuffs for you. Make sure they're not too tight. And do you need to get checked out or >> Stop. Please help. Move in. I think >> I'm trying to help you with it. Hold on. Do you need medical? Yes. >> What? What? You want to step in? Go and step in. Bridget, go and step in. Why are you shaking? >> You step in. All right. Lean back. >> You guys called, I'm assuming. Okay. >> He was just here >> 10 minutes. >> 10 minutes ago. >> Yeah. Well, that's why I just wanted to make a report the first time cuz like this is this is >> and we have the ring camera and I downloaded the video. He told me to email him to him and I just did and then she came back. >> Okay. >> So, there's proof that she was >> what one called? >> I called the first time then I called the second time cuz he was running out here. >> Okay. Can I one of your IDs just to go on the on the report today? >> Hey, you be rather be safe than sorry, right? >> Sergeant coming to check. Can I Can I send like some of her packs? She's got a walker, a wheelchair, a hat, a coat, >> bags. >> Probably not. Let's figure out what we're doing with her here first. >> Okay. She took advantage of your kind heart. You know, if everything you're saying is true, you know, she took advantage of you being a kind person. You know, unfortunately, >> yeah, we're definitely going to be these. Appreciate it. Um, you want to trespass from the property, I assume? Yeah. >> Okay. >> Her she said her mother had um gifted her the title to this house and the car that's in it and um now that I was there today, she could have a ride to her house because she's been living on the streets. >> Oh, did she say this is her house? Then >> she said this is her she grew up here and that she owns the title and deed to this house and that's why she wanted to come here. >> Okay. Well, from here on out, if you do, just know that she is trespassed here. So, she comes back, she's subject to >> criminal stuff. So, >> I don't know if she um remembers where I live. I'm kind of >> most likely not. So, she's got a warrant. That's why we came up here and through cuffs. So, cuz when she >> Can you tell me what the warrant is? >> I can't I can't disclose that. But >> can you give her a hat and of course Yeah, that'll go with her. >> Okay. I feel so bad for her cuz she needs help. Obviously, doesn't need harsh. >> No. No, what's going to happen is I'm going to close this call out with um so it's going to notify isk integrated services account with zoo so that they'll come talk to her as well. I'm sure they will have contact with her in the jail. So >> all right, >> in the end Bridget was charged with possession of a financial transaction device illegal use of credit card and resisting [music] an officer. In this next case, Mo'Nique was shocked to find law enforcement at her doorstep after successfully looting [music] a beauty store. >> See right there for me on the ground. >> Have a seat. Okay. Where did you come from in this car a little earlier? >> I I was in the car earlier. >> Listen, >> I I was I was in the car earlier. >> Would you like Would you like me to show you some pictures? >> Yeah, but it was it wasn't me, though. It was not me, sir. >> It wasn't you. Why would you run? >> Because I'm I >> Why would you run? >> On the 25th of November 2023, police officers had reason to visit a beauty store following a report of a woman who had successfully stolen over $3,000 worth of wigs. When they arrived at the store, they met the manager who gave them an insight into how the theft occurred. And from her description, it was clear that whoever it was that stole from them came prepared and was determined to achieve her goal by all means. >> All right. So, just walk me through what what happened. >> She came in. >> What time was that? >> Uh, it had to be like about 8:45, 8:50 early cuz we open at 8:30 even though our signs say 9:00. That's why a lot of people come cuz they know that we're open. and everybody else don't open till 9:30 or 10. >> So when she came in, I spoke, "Hey, sweetheart." Like I normally do. She nodded. She beelineed right the wigs. >> Mhm. >> I was uh talking to one of my employees, getting her ready for the start of the day, and I was bringing these over to put up. That's overstock. >> Okay. Then when I got up the stairs here, I was starting to um open up those wigs as those uh clippers cuz they're sale clippers. She was coming out the door. She was just headed out. >> Okay. >> So, I heard her beep. I didn't steal at that time cuz from the leverage there, I can't see down. So, I don't know if she got nothing in her hand or either stuff. I didn't know. But I heard her beep. We have security stickers in the neckline. >> So, that's and I ran out and I was like, "Ma'am, ma'am, ma'am." And the way she pushed the door open and the lady that was coming in jumped out of the way. So, right then, that was a she was on. >> Did you see anything in her hand at that point? >> No, I didn't. All I She was by that time by the time I got out to her, she was telling him, "Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. >> Where was he parked? >> Right here. >> Kind of where [clears throat] my police car is. >> Nope. They were right here. >> Oh, right in front. >> Right in front. >> All right. >> The camera showed me when he sped out. He did just what they're doing. Just like that. And I had gotten behind them. >> Okay. >> And that's how I was able to and I started saying the tag in my head. >> Oh, okay. >> You know, cuz I didn't have my phone. Last week we got for a $3 cap, >> but they were dumb enough to back out, which could have been deadly like the toe tagging thing. and they almost wrecked spinning out >> going through the parking lot. >> You know what I'm saying? But I like I said, she knew that that's our human everybody. That's our synthetic section there. >> She belineed straight and that's what the that's what the owner was saying the uh um you know that's when she came in. >> She had you say did you see any of the product at all? It was only after you went back on video. >> Right. That's it. >> So she had it was it down in a [music] bag? Is that what that is? >> No, that's her hand. >> Just she's carrying it. You know what I'm saying? >> I got you. >> So that's what I said over here. I couldn't see down in her hand and and and I don't and I don't know if she stuffed nothing up her shirt, but by the time I she got out of here, she beep. She was gone and ran to the side. I caught her opening the door. >> Gotcha. >> And I have never seen her before. >> I'm I have, but I just You know what I mean? I've been here 10 years. >> Catching the [music] suspect would have been a difficult job for the officers, but luck was on their side. The vehicle license plate of the suspect was captured while making her escape. She had gone home to enjoy her loot for as long as she possibly could, at least until she had some unwanted visitors at her door. >> Have a seat right there for me on the ground. >> Have a seat. >> Oh, sorry. I'm trying to have a seat. >> Okay. Have a seat. >> Keep your hands out your pockets for my hands. >> Okay. >> I'm trying to get him. I'm sorry. >> No, it's fine. I know that's a whole another issue, right? I know how dogs are sometimes just get protective. They don't mean they don't mean harm. They just >> Okay, I'm gonna pat you down real quick. Just make sure you don't turn around for >> Okay, just watch the house cuz the the male is inside. Also, hey, I'm going to read you something real quick. Okay, you have the right to remain silent. Hold up. >> Before I tell you this, I'm going to tell you that we have clear video of everything. >> Just Just listen. >> Not me, though. >> Okay. I I'm I'm gonna ask you something. >> Okay. >> Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer. Have him or her question while being have him or her present with you while being in question. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, will not be appointed to represent you for any questions you wish beside any time exercises >> these rights not answer any questions or making a statement. You understand his rights? Okay. >> Yeah. But I'm I'm asking >> let's get let's get this dog. >> I feel bad cuz I I know he can what I do though like like what I do >> cuz I I do anything. >> Okay. Where did you come from in this car a little earlier? >> I I was in the car earlier. >> Listen, >> I was I was in the car. >> Would you like Would you like me to show you some pictures? >> Yeah, but it was It wasn't me, though. >> It wasn't you. Who was? >> No, it wasn't me. We My my cousin, she was here, but she used car earlier, but she left, but that that was it. She She had a red wig on. Um Yeah, I don't have This is my hair. This is why we're right here. >> Who Who else? Who What's her name? >> My cousin Jessica. She But she she came here early. She used the car. She went to to the health store, got some um cooking or whatever. But when she came back here, she got her in her car. Her car she got a civil card. She got her car. She left. >> Okay, let's come over here. We're going to come out. I'm actually tell my cousin what's coming. But I I was I didn't want no hassle at all at all. People think I It was not me at all, sir. It was I'm not even from here. Like I'm not I'm not in no h at all, sir. At all. Like >> 15. We still there. But that was not It was not me. >> What's your name? >> My name My name is Moique. >> Keep your hands in your pocket. >> I'm sorry. Say it again. Moique. >> From experience, the officers already knew that criminals would do anything to appear innocent. And this woman [music] wasn't any different. However, the most ridiculous thing about her was for reasons only known to her. Despite the overwhelming evidence against her, she continued to tell incoherent stories in a bid to save herself. >> She said that she told she my cous she just said that. >> Who was the male who was driving her? >> Um, he's going her boyfriend. He's gone, too. >> But they just happened to come grab this car. >> No, she she she was this car here. So, she um she she stand here last night. She used this car right here and she left. >> Okay. She had a black 2001 2023 car. >> Yeah. >> But but I I want to know where the silver car came from cuz that's a that's a big mistake. >> Yeah. No, I I didn't I didn't I'm just nervous like you said silver car. I saw but I probably car is black. I'm sorry to talk to Tyler. But I'm just let you know like I'm not from here. So, there's no 20, 30 something year old in the house right now. >> No, sorry. Everybody just broke up. There's a car real. >> Give me one second. >> Although her stories were ridiculous, to give her the benefit of the doubt, the officers decided to question the relatives she lived with.
