Uh, I just got called because there was some shoplifting. >> There They had bucks and I put them back I gave them to the girl on the way out. >> You are on camera 17 times at different Targets all over the place stealing things, okay? >> Occasionally, Target shoplifters think they can walk into the store [music] and make a successful getaway with stolen items. But what happens when they realize that they've been caught and are about to go to jail? >> A male subject said that he they thought was taking clothing and stuff from Target, okay? >> He just told me like wait wait what's going to happen like like it's like like I don't know like walk me through this step cuz I've never been there. >> Okay. >> Here are six times when stupid [music] Target thieves realize they're getting arrested. Starting with this nursing mother who thought she had successfully pinched a full cart of items from a Target just like [music] she had done countless times before. >> I'm here because Target called and said you stole something. >> I'll go take it back. I'm sorry. I can't pay for it. I really can't. >> But what about like all the other times you got caught? She said you got caught in Schaumburg in December for stealing from Target. >> July the 1st, 2025 in South Elgin, Illinois, officers were dispatched to a local Target after reports of a woman casually pushing a cart stacked to the brim with unpaid merchandise straight out the door. By the time the officers rolled in, she was already strutting across the parking lot obviously thinking that she had made a successful getaway and would be home free in minutes. >> I'm here because Target called and said you stole something. >> I'll go take it back. >> Well, I don't know if they're going to You You Wait, you obviously know you said something if you said I'll take it back. Well, I'll just wait here. We'll see what Target wants to do. What I mean >> I'll just move. >> We'll just wait. What did you take? I don't want to cause a scene in aisle see if they can come out here and we can figure it out. Like maybe you opened up some OC spray or pepper spray or something they said and you >> up a bottle >> Yeah. >> Come on. They know your name already cuz you've been here before stealing for something. >> No, I haven't. >> Well, they they gave provided us your name. >> I never stole anything from here. >> Okay, I'm just telling you what our notes say on the call, so. Is this your daughter or who's this? So, opened up pepper spray. What else did you steal? >> And she had standards. >> Do you have an idea on what? Never been arrested before or anything, have you? I'm going to find out or so. Just I mean, we could we could like be done here in a minute and write you a ticket or we can make it a big deal. Like, we're not trying to do that. >> [music] >> If we can write you a ticket and be done, we'll be done. Like >> But I mean, like I I can pay >> Such I don't know what Target wants to do. They called. If you could have paid for it, you should have paid for it before you came outside, right? >> Right. I can write it. >> No, what's your last name? Okay. >> Despite admitting that she had swiped a few items from the store, it was obvious she wasn't laying all her cards on the table. The officer could read between the lines of her words. Her words sounded clean, but her body language was telling a whole different story. Sensing that something wasn't adding up, the officer returned to the Target determined to connect the dots and fill in the blanks. >> Um, all right. I'm like, what are they waiting for you? I'm like, what are we doing? >> I don't know. I'm like a lot of stuff to go out there cuz we're not about I can buy >> What So, she said she didn't pay for a red skirt and she took the pepper spray. >> And that tote bag that's in there. >> Whatever you want to get, whatever you want to get and then Has she been here before? >> Yep, she's been in here before. She's She She goes to She's been apprehended at Woodfield. >> Okay. So, you got Have you been arrested from here before? So she hasn't been arrested at our store before? >> Not at our store. She was at Target in December. >> Okay. While the officer was inside the store, the woman briefly considered running away. But that thought faded just as quickly as it came. Almost instantly she realized another officer had eyes on her every move. Even if she tried to take her shot, [music] deep down she knew the odds weren't in her favor. There was no way she could outrun a full unit, especially not with her baby and mother right there beside her. >> Sorry, I can't pay for it. I really can't. >> What about like all your times? You got caught She said you got caught in Schaumburg in December for stealing from Target. >> Yeah, and that was a totally misunder- like that day >> You have your warrant right now. They're saying it's valid from Cook County, not Kane. >> No, no. I have my probation I'll tell you. I I was Look at >> says. >> I I'll show you. I'll show >> I get that, ma'am. All I can go off of is what that says. >> I'm on probation, look. >> For what? >> Probation. >> For what? What are you on probation for? For retail thefts, for batteries? What are you on What are you on probation for? >> a long time ago. >> I get that, but I'm What are They don't just put you on probation for nothing. What are you on probation for? >> a meeting. >> Okay. What was the charge that you're on probation for? >> For I think taking some. >> For retail thefts? Okay. >> Cook County, but I have probation. He caught I could call him right now. We filed I talked to the judge. I'm coming in and I'm paying the $40 to quash it and they're going to see me and I'm going to do my >> Do you know like if you were to just paid for all this, none of this would have happened today? But you got I mean, it sounds like you might have a problem, right? Like you keep doing this. >> I don't >> You're on probation for retail thefts. You got trespassed in Sep- in December from another one. And you like stole from here before? >> No, yeah. I've never been at Ulta. I'm not at Ulta. I've never been >> Like they have your picture everywhere. They know who you are. >> You have attitude with my with our security officers. >> No, I [clears throat] I never have attitude with them, ever. >> In Illinois, a shoplifting charge can rise or fall depending on the value [music] of the stolen merchandise. Before the officers could determine her charge, they had just one thing left to do. Everything you stole today is what we need. She knows what you stole. So this bag, too? >> We'll just take the cart and then we'll review everything. I need the milk, though. >> Yeah, that's fine. We know you. >> What do you have receipts for before we have to do this four or five times? This is I just want to make sure you haven't been honest with me today so far, so I mean, I don't know. There's this Dove stuff. Is this stuff that was stolen, too? >> No, I had >> I'm just asking. I don't know. I mean, if they scan this and it comes here, like what about this Sol de Janeiro stuff that doesn't look like it's been opened? >> That's from That's not from here. >> I'm just I mean, this is what happened Okay. Just a I'm just I believe you. I'm just What about these, though? What about these? She has the cameras on her and so much stuff she stole. All right. Well, you do have a Cook County warrant, so we've got to deal with that. >> I will go in tomorrow. I have it on stand. >> I don't know. I don't know what to tell you. >> Come on. >> Don't steal and you wouldn't have been caught today. I got I I'm sorry. I I don't feel bad for you when you keep doing the same things. Maybe the warrant they'll let you leave. I don't know. Maybe they'll just be like, "Oh, you're free to go." >> You said that >> I know. You want to What Want me to stay here and get all this stuff taken care of before this all starts to >> Well, if I have >> You have to go with us no matter what. We have to process you for stealing all this stuff again. So, I don't know. We're going to find out on the way there hopefully what the warrant information is and you can call mom and tell mom what what you need. And when was like I don't know if it's an old case there'd be a bottom line. If it's not an old case then you're going to get a I know you can, but that's not your probation officer is not going to be doing anything for us unfortunately. We can only go off of what our computer says. If you had the Kane County warrant like you had the paperwork so we were totally cool with that. I would have just been like it's squashed until July 9th, but you got to go county jail. >> We're going to go to the station and just start working on this so we can get you out of here as fast as possible. >> but if you go with us to turn fingerprints >> As long as your county says I can let you go with the court date then you'll be out of here in like an >> We're going to take her so we can get this going and then I'll go in with you and get everything that you need. Is that okay? All right, I'm going Okay, well do you want to take a picture of her real quick? This is loss prevention from Target if you didn't know. >> Like >> It's completely up to them. Yeah, we're I mean she'll we're going to allow her to to let you know. >> It just depends on when the warrant's from. >> At the moment regret was written all over her, but unfortunately regret wasn't going to cut it and she knew that there was nothing she could do to change what was about to become her reality. >> Ma'am, we're going to go to the South Elgin Police Station. >> Okay. >> I don't know if you have stuff that you need to go do or want to take care of the baby we can call you, have her call you as soon as we figure it out. Or you can go to the police station and wait inside the lobby until we have an answer. It's up to you. >> I would definitely just wait um >> So her to get ahold of you? >> And uh well, I definitely need to take care of her. >> Yeah, yeah, for sure. I think she just dropped it. Okay, yeah, I know it's hot. We're not trying to inconvenience you, but we got to take care of >> In the end, she was charged with retail theft and taken to jail. Unlike the previous woman, Carli used her children as a decoy to steal items from Target. >> Uh I just got called because there was some shoplifting. >> They They had books and I put them I gave them to the girl on the way out. >> They have a whole thing they've been tracking all of your thefts for a long time. Okay? You are on camera 17 times at different Targets all over the place stealing things, okay? >> On January the 11th, 2025, [music] just minutes before midday in Illinois, officers from the Chicago Police Department responded to a report from a local Target that a woman named Carli had systematically slipped items out of the store with the help of her daughter. Upon arrival, the officers met her just as she was about to get into her car. >> So uh I just got called because there was some shoplifting. >> They They had books and I put them I gave them to the girl on the way out. My children came in >> who? >> I gave them to her on the way out. My children came in with books and they were looking at books the whole time and we walked out and she said that I had books and there was a pair of boots under the car cart that I wasn't sure if I was going to get or not that I had totally forgot about cuz my cart was filled with children. >> Okay. >> And I told her I said, "I'm so sorry." And she said, "No, this is not a mistake. This is not a mistake." My daughter, who is two or three, is sobbing trying to give the girl the books back and she says, "No, too bad." >> Okay, so what about some So there's books, what about groceries? >> No. >> Okay, no, you don't have any groceries at all? Do you have any Did you buy anything when you were in there? >> No, I I put some sweaters back and they had the books. >> Okay. All right, so you have your kids in the car, who's who's driving? >> My husband. >> All right, let's have him turn off the car cuz we got to figure this all out, okay? >> Okay. >> So if you want to open the door >> He turned the car off. >> We got a We got a call about some shoplifting, okay? I don't know I get in the situation right now. We're going to figure it all out right now, okay? Let's start. Do you have an ID on you? Thank you. >> Yep. >> Kali kept trying to come up with cooked up stories to buy her way out or at least reduce whatever charges the officers might have on her. However, for some reason it seemed like the officers were actually buying her made-up stories. All she had to do was be a little more convincing. >> So, you didn't take anything from the store? There's nothing in your trunk from inside the store at all? Okay, can we open it and check? >> stuff from We've been running errands all day. >> That's fine, okay. Yeah, do you mind popping the trunk for me just to check? I'll go let you go ahead. Okay, so what's that? >> This is stuff from a different Target than we were at. >> A different Target? >> Yeah, I've been looking for this stuff for baking. I've been going to different Targets to try to find it. >> Okay. >> I can show you >> So, Okay. So, you don't have Do you have a receipt from the other Target for this stuff? >> Can I look in my purse? >> Sure. Where's your purse at? Up in the Yeah. She's going to >> Do you know where I put the receipt from Target? >> She's going to look in her purse for her receipt. >> Can you check the bags again? >> Sure. >> Okay. >> At this point doubt had begun to creep in as Kali struggled to produce a receipt for the items she claims she had bought from a nearby Walmart. >> Listen, so I got this call so now I just need to investigate it, okay? >> So we went to Can I close this so my kids don't get cold? >> Go ahead. Okay, so >> lives in Rockford so we went I was looking for this stuff for baking. >> Okay. >> We were going to do a Valentine's craft. >> Okay. Okay, I see this. This is cool. Okay, I'm going to give that back to you. So let me go talk with her in there and figure out what's going on, okay? I'm going to have this other officer hang out out here for a minute, all right? So you can go sit in the car for now, okay? Get warm and then we're going to we're going to get this straightened out, okay? >> While the officer went back inside the Target, Kali's heartbeat started racing. She knew she had to come up with something more convincing to tell the officer upon his return. >> Hey Kali, can you come out and talk to me for a minute? Okay. So they have a whole thing. They've been tracking all of your thefts for a long time, okay? You were on camera 17 times at different Targets all over the place stealing It's okay. So I don't want to hear the excuses about how you were just, you know, you forgot it was underneath the thing. I mean, you have a history with Target, okay? Luckily for you, all they want to do today is trespass you, okay? So you're you're not allowed to come back to this Target. If you do come back to this Target, you could get a ticket. If you remain, you can get arrested, okay? Uh where are the Pokémon card set things that you took today? >> I didn't take anything. >> Okay, she has you on video taking the Pokémon cards. Where are they? Okay, cool. Do you have anything else at all from this store? Okay, that card as well? Okay, anything in your car from this store today? Okay. >> Absolutely not. >> Cuz if we find out that you have other stuff >> I have my children. >> Okay. So, right now I'm going to get a trespass form started. I'm going to go talk to them again, make sure they don't want charges, and you can leave here today hopefully very very lucky, okay? Take a seat. >> At this point, Kali was caught between a rock and a hard place. Two completely different futures hanging in the balance. She could either end the night back home with her family like nothing ever happened, or find herself cooling her heels in jail. And it all depended on the officer's second return from the store. >> All right, go and face my car. You can be placed under arrest for retail theft, okay? She said she wants charges. Can you face that way for me? Just sign right there, please. All right, do you have anything in your pocket here? >> I don't think so. >> All right, I'm going to check your pocket really quick, make sure there's nothing in here, okay? Nothing else on your person. I see you're wearing like yoga pants, so you shouldn't have much in there, okay? All right. >> Can I at least tell my husband what's going on? >> We'll tell him what's going on. Go and grab a seat for me. >> Can I sit anywhere? >> Yep, just scooch right in. I know it looks confusing, it's not. Put the seatbelt right over here. All right, sit tight for a second, okay? >> In the end, she was charged with retail theft. The next case takes us to Washington where 18-year-old Allison and her friend Olivia met a very sad end for trying to top up their illicit substance distribution games with shoplifting from Target. >> I'm a description of somebody that they thought was taking clothing and stuff in Target, okay? >> I can't you just tell me like like what's going to happen? Like like just like like I don't know. Like walk me through the steps cuz I've never been there before. >> Okay. On March the 6th, 2025 in Washington, officers from the Lacey Police Department were dispatched after a call from a local Target's loss prevention officers. They had seen two teenagers, later identified as Allison Crowley and Olivia, stuffing merchandise unpaid into their carts and bags like they were running out of time. But by the time officers were en route, the pair had already slipped out the store. Thinking that they had beaten the system and gotten away clean. But before they could catch their breath and arrange a ride home for Olivia, since Allison was homeless, the officers approached them. And what seemed like a win in the moment turned into something they never planned for. >> I matched the description of somebody that they thought was taking clothing and stuff from the Target. Okay. So, do you guys have IDs on you? >> No. >> Okay. >> Reading 518602. >> Okay. Need names, date of birth. >> Allison Crowley. >> So, >> Yeah. My wallet's at home, but I do but I just don't have it. That's all I'm saying. >> Okay. What's your first name? >> Allison. A L Y S O N. >> A L Y S O N? >> Crowley. C R A W L E Y. >> C R >> A W L E Y. Listen, I have no warrants or anything on me. I'm not a criminal. >> What's your middle initial? >> What? >> Middle initial? >> Uh L. >> L? >> Now, am I being detained? >> Yes, you're being detained. C R A W L E Y? >> And are you going to be arrested? I'm confused. >> You're detained right now. This is loss prevention. Okay? So, you understand Target has cameras everywhere. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, they can kind of see you. Okay, I understand. What's your first name? >> Olivia. >> O L I V I A? What's your middle initial? >> K. >> Okay. Well, people spell names different ways, okay? This goes a lot easier if you're receptive to me, okay? >> answering your >> Olivia K. N >> N E V I L S >> N E V I L S? Okay. What is your date of birth, Olivia? 4 20 2006 Okay. >> For several minutes, the officers tried to get the girls to talk, but they stayed tight-lipped, stonewalling every question [music] like it was strange to them. They thought silence would throw the officers off balance, but what they failed to understand was that these weren't the regular cops that they had encountered in time past. >> Do you guys want to talk to me? >> How old are you guys now? >> 18 >> You're 18 now? Holy smokes. >> Go ahead and drop your bags. Yep, stand up for me. And then you both of you guys just face the wall. Arrested or released? Want to see where you're at. You guys are also in the shoplifting Okay. from Target, which means you're not going to be allowed to come here within a year. If you guys come in here, you're going to be arrested, okay? >> So, you guys are Do you guys call our parents or no, cuz we're 18? >> Cuz you're 18 now, you guys go to jail. Um so, the store wants their stuff back? >> I didn't Wait. But, my bag has Well, my like all my stuff is like just ruined and like all my money is also in my purse right there. >> Okay. >> Like all my from my banking stuff, so I just want to make sure like like if I'm in the workplace like no >> That your your personal stuff will go with you. I'm just saying the store wants her stuff back. >> Okay. >> So, can we go in and you show us what of the stuff is yours cuz I'm we're not taking anything from you. Okay? So, which bag is whose is what? >> Mine's the black bag and then that jacket right there. >> Okay. And then yours are the reusable bag and then the string bag? >> Yeah, but just all that's like is just like those sweats. >> Okay. >> Sweats? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It even looks long. >> Well, that's fine. And then what's in your bag over there? >> Um there is I have our shirts and my jacket and then I have >> shirts and your jacket? >> Yeah. >> Our shirts. >> And then I have our >> In my big >> other shirts and my in my purse underneath that makeup bag. >> And I have my Calvin underwear. >> But this one is yours. This is your jacket. Okay. >> And that is >> And then >> My Calvin Klein underwear. >> Okay. And then this bag you said it's in the >> Yeah, just those sweats like >> Okay. Okay. So, here's the thing like the CSOs are going to come and she's going to go through all your stuff. So, >> And you're 100% Ally? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cuz if not you'll >> Like I have all my banking stuff in there. >> Okay. Cuz if not you'll get another charge. >> Yeah, so you do have to >> Allison has a tattoo? >> Yeah. Like >> Where is it at? >> Right here. >> There you go. All right. >> I have a tattoo too though. >> But mine you don't have like right here like >> Right here. >> Uh-oh, she has one though. >> Like they can't confirm my fingerprints too. I don't know. >> [clears throat] >> Okay. >> I have my sweat holes. I'm so scared. >> Come on ladies, we're going to try to find out who's >> Grab all your stuff. Let's go. >> Hey. All right, we're going to walk right over here, okay? Haven't seen you in a while. What you doing back in Lacey? >> No. I was just saying my money's in my purse. So, I'm going to going with you. Is your sister around here, too? >> No, I don't have a sister. >> You don't talk to her much anymore? All right. Okay. Go and face the car right here, okay? I know they already searched everything. I just got to do it again. Can you spread your feet for me? There's a camera that's going to record you guys in the back, okay? >> Okay. Um excuse me, I know this might be a lot to ask, but could you maybe zip up my jacket? Sure, here. >> You're not going to kick me or anything? All right. >> I wouldn't do that. I mean, obviously I steal stuff, so I'm not really a good person, but >> You didn't do the other stuff? >> No, clearly not. >> I'm just going to stand here and then uh see so Sage, she'll search you before uh you get into her car, okay? >> Okay. >> Do you have a shirt on underneath this? >> Yeah, I do. >> It's like a little Oh, got it. Okay. Do you have anything inside of your bra? >> No. >> I'm going to use the back of my hand right underneath, okay? All right. Have you have a seat. >> Don't forget my phone and stuff. >> Yep, you know I got it on. >> At this point, reality had started to sink in heavily. What began as a simple shoplifting scheme had quickly spiraled into a moment they wouldn't forget anytime soon. >> How come you guys are calling our parents? >> Yeah, that's what that's what I just told her that Sage is going to search her. She's going to get in her car. You guys have school today? >> No, um I was pulled out of school, so I never got to graduate. >> Got you. >> I didn't drop out, though. I was pulled out. It was like It wasn't my choice. >> Mhm. So, are you doing like online school right now or >> Um well, I'm kind of homeless right now, so I've been like working on like programs to get me in the housing and then once I get in the housing, then I can get like, you know, focus back on school and stuff. >> Have you looked into Lacey's mobile outreach team? >> Um no. I mean, I looked into the REACH program center in Tacoma. And they were supposed to call me and like email me, but they never did, you know? And >> Um Lacey Police Department, we have a mobile outreach team. It's a group of like civilians. Uh they go around and they have a bunch of resources towards like housing, so you can get back on your feet and stuff like that. So, once you're out of Nisqually, I would look into that. You have a phone, right? >> Yeah. All right, it doesn't have service, though. >> Okay. Well, if you just go to like the library or anywhere with Wi-Fi. Probably not Target, cuz you're not allowed here anymore. Yeah. Go into our website. Uh should be like under MOT, m o t. And then uh they can reach out and help you with that. >> You want to come >> I'm going to search you, okay? >> That's fine. Uh my phone is connected. >> Got it. Do you have anything sharp that's going to stick me or poke me? >> Uh no. >> Like needles, nothing like that, right? >> No. >> And Allison says that there's some money in your bag that's hers. >> Mhm. >> Is that Is that the case? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you know where it is in your bag? Cuz she wants it in her bag. >> it's in uh one of the zipper parts. Her money is in like a little envelope thing in one of the zipper parts of my bag. >> Of your purse? >> Yes, my purse. Yes. >> Okay. Do you have anything inside of your bra? >> No. >> I'm going to check the back of your hair underneath, okay? All right. Okay, have a seat right over here. Oh, before you sit, let me check and make sure these aren't going to tighten up. Okay. All right, go and have a seat. >> Oh, I'm sorry. You can have Okay, I'm scared. >> You're good. >> I've never I've jail before. >> It's not an ID >> to be you. >> That's from doggie treats. From the bank. >> My mom. >> Why do you have her ID? >> Because she has another one and I just like to keep it in my wallet. >> my mom's uh uh wallet too to the car where my stuff is at also, too. Where I keep my clothes and stuff. >> Okay, well if it's your mom's ID, she can come to the department and get it, okay? >> Okay. Oh. Mhm. It's okay. >> Get down. >> Uh I'm sorry. >> I don't know if they'll search us. >> Yeah. >> Girl, you're not going to be able to bail us out. >> You have to get the other one with money. >> I didn't see it in there. >> You don't see a white envelope in there? >> You said it's in the front zipper part. >> No, I said it's in one of the zippers. >> One of the zippers. >> It's a white small envelope. >> Okay. >> I don't know what they're going to do. Maybe this is for the best. I don't know. >> Like at least we're together, you know? >> I know. >> Like in >> And then am I going to be put in cells and >> We're going to be released like on the same days. >> No, we're not. >> Maybe not. But we haven't >> Don't say anything there's a camera right there. >> Like we haven't gotten in trouble before so like >> Okay, but Ally. Tell me what they do when you get there. >> They They strip you down. >> They strip us butt naked? >> Me and you will sit in the same holding cell for a long time together. >> We will? He promised? >> Until he moves to the pod now. >> And then when we're out of the pod, we're by ourselves. We won't have any roommates. >> I think everybody's roommates in the pod. >> Did you have roommates in juvie? >> Juvie's different than jail. >> While Allison and Olivia sat in the back of the cruiser, the weight of the situation finally started to settle in. Inside Allison's bag, the officer found some pills, some white powder, a snorting straw, a gram scale, and a large sum of cash, which could only mean Allison was a dealer. >> Allison, go ahead and look this way for me. He's got to get a picture for the trespass. Allison, just so you know, I'm adding in a charge for these drugs, okay? >> 25. >> [laughter] >> Did you get Olivia? Okay. Olivia, go ahead and look this way for me. He's got a picture for his records. And I'll have the trespass notice copy for you, okay? >> So, did Allison just walk in and grab it and leave? >> Pretty much walked in, dropped the blanket, and then took the stuff off the wall. >> Um cool. She's going to text you a case number if that works. And then the link. >> I'll meet you, man. I'll get you trespasses and stuff. >> I mean, I can keep them, but Stribling gave me like a whole stack of trespasses from earlier, so I don't know if you need them or if you want them. >> Um what? Do you need your copy or whatever? Oh, you know what? I can just send it to you. >> Either one works, you know, but I have a bunch of the paper trespasses. >> Oh, okay. No, no, no, it's all good. I'll just email them to you. Um and then >> I can scan this stuff out in the station for you. >> Yeah, that'd be perfect. >> And then you can take this. >> Sweet. >> What started as a simple response to a shoplifting report had now turned out to be a drug bust and a long night beyond what the officer had planned for. >> What I do? >> Um can you just tell me like like what can I expect? But hopefully take this as the time where you can like write the ship, okay? Okay? All right. >> In the end, Olivia was charged with theft while Allison was also charged with [music] theft and possession of a controlled substance. Unlike Allison and Olivia, this woman was bold and full of confidence when arrested by the cops for stealing from a Target as though she had a license in shoplifting. [music] >> So, here's the deal. My partner said there was a theft at Target. Described a white female, green neon shorts, blonde hair. You're going to get a warrant on us and charge you for theft. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> On the 1st day of July 2025 [music] at midday in Washington, officers on patrol from the Lacey Police Department received a call from a Target loss prevention officer reporting that a woman had stolen some items. Upon arrival, they sighted the suspect who had already made her way out of the store and for a few seconds, the officers were confused. First, she looked nothing like a shoplifter. Secondly, all she had was her bag contrary to the report that she had loaded a full cart of merchandise without paying. But despite that, the officers knew that looks can be deceiving. >> Hey, come here. Come here. Ma'am. Were you just at Target? >> Huh? >> Were you just at Target? >> No. >> No? Why don't you step over to my my car? Okay? Where are you coming from? >> We were over at McDonald's. >> Yeah, McDonald's? Okay, you matched the description of someone we're looking for. Are you sure you were at Target? >> Yeah. >> Hello. She's saying that it wasn't her. It wasn't you that was doing this? Okay. >> I wasn't at Target. >> You weren't at Target at all? >> Hey, 7-Eleven, do you have a loss prevention still on the phone? >> She seems a little bit out of breath. >> Well, yeah, you guys can tell I'm a little like freaked out right now. >> Yeah, if you could have them respond to that. Do you have your ID on you, ma'am? >> Yeah. >> So, here's the deal. Like my partner said, there was a theft at Target. Described a white female, green neon shorts, blonde hair. So, the loss prevention I know. You get They gave it back. So, loss prevention is going to come over here and see if it's you or not. So, if it was you, this would be the This would be the time to explain to this officer the truth. >> Okay. >> Okay? Cuz based on your demeanor, I believe it's you. >> I'm a little freaked out. >> Okay. Do you think loss prevention's going to identify you? >> No. >> No? >> No. >> Okay. After a brief interrogation, the officers were [music] more confused than ever before. She looked exactly like the description they got, but her body language and confidence were far too convincing for a shoplifter. [music] Now, the officers were stuck between letting a possible shoplifter walk away freely or detaining an innocent citizen. [music] >> So, you were in Target though, right? So, I don't tell me you You're saying you weren't in Target at all? You know they have video cameras and everything else too, right? You know they got to warn us and try you for theft? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. >> That was like a misunderstanding. I went into Famous Footwear with a pair of boots that I had purchased, and called and asked if I could exchange them. I hadn't worn them yet. And they said no. And so I made a mistake and took them in there and swapped them out for a different size. And they couldn't even I had to show them which ones I swapped out because they were brand new. I mean, I know it was wrong and I shouldn't have went about it that way. >> this famous footwear over here? >> No, it was in Centralia. >> Oh, Centralia, okay. Well, this is regarding Target. You want to talk about that one? You don't want to talk about Target thing right now? >> What Target thing? >> What just with the Legos? I just want to know what you do with them and stuff. >> I don't I don't know what you're talking about. >> Well, what this is what they're waiting for them to show up. >> they're out with? >> They identify you and then we'll have to deal with that appropriately. >> Appropriately? Am I under arrest? >> You're detained. >> Okay. >> We're just not We're being polite and not putting you in handcuffs. >> Despite finding herself in such a tight spot, she kept herself composed, filled with confidence as though all the things the officers accused her of were very strange to her. But what she didn't know was that the officers had watched the video footage of how she had stolen the items. And as it stands, she had played a stupid game which comes with a stupid price. >> Do you live around here? >> I live in West Olympia. >> Okay. All right. Just place your hands behind your back for me, all right? Well, unfortunately, they have video and the person who is their loss prevention just positively identified you. So, you are now under arrest. >> Where? Where was he? >> I don't know. It's not >> me when I stopped you at the end there. What? >> 3 Sam 11, log one from 43. You have a CSO? >> I'm on the copy, log one. >> Oh, do I have to go to jail? >> Yeah. So, what ended up happening? How come you don't want to tell me about it? You don't want to talk about it? Okay. >> If I talk about it, can I not go to jail? >> Yes, so we can search your stuff in the bag. >> Yeah. >> I'll take it. >> I'll walk you over. >> If I talk to you guys about it, can I not go to jail? >> Nope. I can't guarantee anything like that. That's all up to the store. Just let you know, you are being audio and video recorded, all right? You have anything that's going to stick me or poke me or anything like that? >> I have a vape in my wallet. >> You have a vape in your right? >> Yeah. >> $4. >> All right. >> Here for a second. >> And you are going to be trespassed from this location, okay? From the Target. If you ever come back here, if you try to commit another crime, it's going to be a burglary charge, all right? >> What is it going to be now? >> It's a theft three. All right? >> Hello, I'm CSO Palacios. How you doing? >> I'm not feeling better. >> I should stop asking that. All right, come on. We're going to go to my car over here. >> Sweat on my >> Got it? >> No. Can you wipe my like mouth? All right, thank you. >> You're good. All right. Let's have your face here. While you stand, I'm going to search it. Anything um sharp in your pockets? >> No, I have a vape in my pocket. >> Okay, I'll grab that. And then I have to ask is there anything hidden in your bra? >> My bra? >> Is there anything hidden in your bra? >> No. >> Okay. All right, your front pockets. Pockets. Check your back pockets. All right, I'm just going to double-check your cuffs and I'll get you in there. Are these too tight for you? Okay. Okay, and then real fast let me just use the back of my hand and check underneath your bra, okay? Okay, thank you. You can have a seat. I know it's all warm back here, but once we get moving it should get cool cooler. All right, we're with you. Oh, got to go. He's got to go. All right. >> Ultimately, she was charged with retail theft in the third degree. Up next is this dumb psycho shoplifter who went wild accusing officers of being racist after engaging the officers on a marathon. >> You want something from me? >> Yeah, I'm accusing you. >> For what? >> You stop. >> I'm not. >> You see, it's just a retail theft. Before the officers could arrive, he had violently forced himself out of the store and was several blocks away. >> You stop, dude. You stop. You stop. You stop now. You stop, Joe. >> I'm going to call the police. >> You can call whoever you >> Oh, wait. You got an announcement to make. >> stop. >> You got an announcement to make, right? >> All right. I'm going to get my car. We ain't going to play it. We ain't going to play it. Double check it. He's good. >> After a few minutes drive, the officers arrived back at Target and immediately escorted him to the loss prevention office. Once inside, the young man, realizing that his day had taken [music] a turn for the worse, quickly tried to shift the blame on the officer and paint himself as the victim. >> All right. Step out nice and easy for me. >> What if I don't want to go in there? >> What? >> What if I don't want to go in there? >> If you don't want to go in there, I'm going to pull you in there. >> What the hell you mean? >> Thank you, sir. >> I don't get a I don't get a option, bro. >> Sir, you just uh I just asked you the question. Is that what you're saying? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> What What about all the hangers? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Want to go take a look? >> It's like four packs of hangers and stuff. >> Mhm. >> I have a 45. >> And then those totes is also stuff that we just got from her mom and stuff. She going to like open it >> Okay. So, the totes Yeah, looks like that's >> Yeah, that looks like >> used clothes. I I'm not worried about that at all, right? Okay. And the the purse in the front seat, is that hers or is that yours? >> Those are hers. >> And that's the green The little green purse as well? >> Those are both hers. That brown one empty. That's our purse. Like I said, I own stuff from her mom and stuff. >> Okay. >> Hey, this is your car, you said? >> Yes. >> All right. Just so you know, you're missing two lug nuts. One one there and one there, see? Be careful. I mean, I don't want to see a wheel fall off or anything like that, you know? You seem like a nice person, so I don't want you to get hurt or anything. >> This car was in our town last night. We had a theft last night. >> Yeah, we got that one, huh? >> So, where where were you guys Where were you guys last night? >> I drove her at actually Target. Um I was at Target. We both were at That's where we were shopping last night. >> Here in Here in town? >> Yes, at our grocery shopping. >> Where do you guys live? >> Actually in Chicago. I'm um She said she She moved out of Schaumburg. >> So, why are you guys all the way up here? Shop Just regular grocery shopping up in Rolling Meadows? That doesn't make I mean, I mean, I mean, just be real. That That doesn't make sense. You're not going to come up here to grocery shop. >> to go to the store that she wanted to go to, though. >> Which store is that? >> This one. This She wanted to >> So, she was Oh, this is the store last night as well? >> Mhm. >> Got it. Okay. All right. Well, >> I don't know about a couple days ago. No, I was I was at work. >> doubt you. You're being honest with me. I have no reason to not believe you. Um I'll tell you what, I I'm the boss, so I I'm not going to be the one who's going to be handling the the whole case. >> At this point, she was already beginning to realize that they were in trouble and started looking for smart ways to get out of it. But, she was about to realize that she couldn't just walk away at this point without paying for actions. >> Can I ask you a question? >> Yeah, what's up? >> So, if there's a way that some some stuff is just going to be out here like can I just get it back or like I'll hurt you in the store or or something like that? >> No, there is there's theft for stolen. And and I and again, the fact that she um I didn't see the whole thing, but it she definitely was pulling away from the officer and causing a little bit of a problem. So, we that's got to get addressed as well. But, the bottom line is you guys um whoever takes the majority of the responsibility, I don't know yet. But, the bottom line is you knew she was stealing. >> Yeah. >> And you guys were together. >> Mhm. >> I'm sure the video's going to show you both putting stuff in the shopping cart. >> Yes. >> Right. So, you both are going to have some responsibility. But, again, the level of that responsibility is still up in the air. Um depends on if you how many times you've been if you've been arrested before for retail theft, that matters. Um I don't We'll be getting to that later. Um the level of your co-op you know, the level of your cooperation, that matters as well. State's attorneys are are they're looking for reasons to um I don't want to say give breaks because everyone's going to be held responsible to some extent. But, um the level of which you're being held is going to is going to depend a lot a lot on you and and um how you react to the situation the rest of the night. Does that make sense? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> After getting all the information they needed from the pregnant shoplifter, they proceeded to question her friend again. At this moment, she had already decided to play the victim card. >> So, I understand >> What do you want? You were mean as hell to me. I don't like that. >> That's what I was about to That's what I was about to say. Look, I think that we all got off to a little bit of a bad start. I don't like it when I see somebody It looked to me like you were struggling and resisting with with one of my officers. And we >> honest with you. All right, I'm going to be completely honest. I'm already caught. I can't beat no blunt than I already am. I'm not I wasn't I was not complying. I just pushed the door and closed it, did I not? And he never grabbed me. I just pushed the door and closed it. >> Okay. >> He never touched me. He never asked me to turn around. He didn't say nothing to me. So, that's not >> Well, I wasn't here for the conversation, so I I don't I don't know. >> You pulled up >> Sorry. >> You were after the cops and that was the fourth one to pull up. >> Whatever. >> Yeah. >> But, yeah. You feel me. I don't like that. >> I'm not a cop. I'm not always going to be nice. But, when you're yelling and you're being >> have cuz I'm pregnant and I asked y'all to release the cuffs just a little bit. And I'm like I'm going to run. >> But, and we did, right? We took the cuffs off. >> [ __ ] minutes. And like I said, I'm 3 months pregnant. >> It definitely didn't take 20 minutes. >> It took two damn long. I'm a human being. It don't matter what I did. I don't deserve for my wrist to be twisted up to my neck. >> That's not respectful. >> Okay. Well, respect goes both ways. >> I was respecting him. >> we're going to be we're going to be um probably in a not me, um and the other officers are probably going to be with you for a little while tonight. And just just remember that respect goes both ways. And I'll I'll make sure that our guys are respectful to you. Make sure that you're respectful to us as well. Okay? >> Okay, this is happening after we leave. I'm just >> I think it's my job to make sure that I can make my my guys work as easy as possible. And if somebody is is um argumentative, causing a problem, it makes my job I I didn't say you did. I'm talking about the future. That's why I'm here talking. I'm just saying I If if you're respectful, it's okay. >> to I would I would hope that your colleagues know how to talk to a man and y'all do have a reputation people in being aggressive and choking [ __ ] to death. I'm like I mentioned, I'm 3 months pregnant. I don't want to have to go through that. So, I'm not taking anybody through any extra trouble. I just don't appreciate being disrespected. I'm an adult. I'm a mom regardless of whatever the [ __ ] I did. I don't want to be disrespected. >> In the end, they were both charged with retail theft, while the more aggressive one was additionally charged with resisting arrest.
