Okay. >> She's saying it was just her and mom inside. >> Her and mom. >> Yeah, that's what she's saying. While the anger and hostility from neighbors toward the suspect was understandable, nothing could have prepared officers for the heartbreaking scene that unfolded next. >> Please. She's with us. Okay. I need you to step out, though. >> This is my car. My car is over here. >> Okay. Go ahead. >> Yeah. >> How old are you? >> I'm 31. >> 31. Okay. Well, how old is your other daughter that's inside? >> She's >> And how they're both I only got one daughter. >> Is she the only one? >> Yes. My baby. >> How old is the baby? >> She's >> Okay. This is my supervisor. >> Just came to speak to my baby mama to make sure. Or did she go to the hospital because my daughter said that she right here at the bottom? I don't know which number it is. >> The one over there. >> Yes. >> Okay. They're both down at the police station. >> All right, sweetie. We're just going to wait here. Okay. Do you need some water or anything? Okay, >> give us one second. We'll try to get everything figured out. Okay. All right. >> Just knock if you need something. Okay. Knock like this. Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> I need water. >> You need water? Okay. Give us a second. Okay. [music] >> Despite what the suspect claimed, nothing could justify taking another human life in a moment of rage. [music] And any remaining doubt disappeared when the victim's husband finally spoke with the officers. >> Who are you in a relationship with? the the victim. >> Tell me what what happened tonight. >> I don't really know. She came arguing. The lady we were out there. She came first. She passed by then she came back and then she said something my grandma got got loud and say take a seat because it was some old argument that the cause she came but she got drunk. So now she come back with the she drunk now. So maybe think that she had a plan cuz Okay. Anyway, they were arguing [music] right? Then she went and knock on a neighbor to prove that what is this lady talking about? Right. Okay. I'm my back turn. I'm I'm tend to fold in the grill. They getting loud and then then I heard the girl say [music] and she my girl started to cut her back too and she hit my girl first and my lady hit her back. Then it come out out of like in the breeze like out with the where the thing was and I was trying to hold her back and then she reached and hit again. At the time I go come on baby come to the house. Come go in the house. She said and started away from me. So by the time I turn like this her daughter had a gun in the air. I think she I think that would have planned. I think they came baby. That's how I think her daughter had a gun. She tried to snatch it on the door. Like she actually watched her. She said they give me another she and baby. She the little girl. I said she ate my mama. But your mama hit my baby first. OH MY GOD. THE LITTLE girl the little she. >> Do you recall how many fired? >> Oh, one or two. I don't know. It was so fast. >> Four. I think one miss and one I think probably know probably can't control it. You know when a gunfire you know the the the friction you know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> Oh my god. I keep seeing it. Oh god. I keep seeing it. My girl was just standing there cussing like you know what I mean? When I turn around she want to hit the girl. She was trying to she was just standing there cussing and girl. >> Okay. >> See you hate my mama but your mama hate my girl. Why would you give your daughter a gun? Why would you Why would you do that? For a little petty argument >> for for that don't mean nothing, >> right? >> No, my baby dead now. They never coming back. >> I'm about to be in jail. That's how to kill that. I swear to God, I ain't going to lie. Being a kid, I don't care. You know what you did. >> Now, you said when you went to go try to help out Bones, who was it that pointed that gun at you? >> Her mama. Once you grab the gun, I want you shoot. I was screaming. You know what I like that's about you know that's terrible >> and I tried to go get my gun the gun were pointing at me I don't show much >> I know you're wiping it off but you pointing at me I I ain't wait to stick around >> right >> right I don't want save my baby >> bones later passed away at the hospital the child's mother was charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence aggravated with a firearm negligent storage of a firearm and neglect while Amayra was charged with seconddegree Ammyra's mother was later sentenced to 5 years in prison followed by 3 years of [music] probation while her daughter remains in juvenile detention. Amaya's mother's crimes would not go unpunished and neither would Susan's after she fired and ended the life of her innocent neighbor [music] in cold blood. >> And what about her said that she's going to come and drag my beat? >> Uh, well, that's not what she said. >> This lady just tried to break down my door. >> I shot through the door. >> I got some bad news to tell you. >> Mom, stop coming back in the door. Come. Uh-uh. Come, come, come, come. No, no, no. >> On August the 10th, 2022, deputies in Ocala, Florida, were dispatched to a quiet neighborhood after a resident repeatedly called 911 complaining about children playing nearby. Little did officers know that this was a dispute that had [music] been brewing for days and that it was eventually going to take a devastating turn. >> Hello. How are you? >> What's going on? Kids keep running back and forth over here. When the kids are out front, I don't, you know, it's really noisy. The way the way my apartment's set up, you can see it ends here. They're screaming, yelling. I don't get a break from the kids at all. I don't have children. I've asked them, "Please, you know, the kids all live on that side of the street for some reason. They love to play over here. My guys >> probably cuz it's open." >> I understand that. I have migraines. Horrible migraines. I had a very bad cardiac. Had my neck bruised. I've had I need more back surgery. I don't want to hear these children. I've asked them, please get away. You know, there's other places they can play. They don't have to play here. They're screaming, yelling at me, telling the kids are not hurting anybody. The kids, you know, they're not damaging anything. Oh, they're damaging me because the migraines are so bad. Most days I can barely stand. I don't want to be intimidated by them screaming and yelling at me, telling me I'm a calling me Karen, calling I mean, they're calling me names. really we're going to, you know, devolve to just simple bullying. I don't want to face this. Respect is needed. You know, I don't make a noise here. I don't do anything. Just, you know, they need to be cool about it. I don't don't bother anybody. I don't expect to be bothered either. You know, I'm working on a PhD. I'm in the house most of the time. I'm on the computer doing dissertation work. Again, it's horrible to come out here and be screamed at by three different sets of neighbors because they want their children to play here. Again, take them to a park. There's an open lot down there. There's an open lot down there. Let them play someplace else. It's not that hard. >> I mean, as long as they're not on your property. I mean, they can pretty much play wherever they want to play. >> Play up. Oh, but they've been in the truck in the back of the bed of my pickup. The kids are in the back of the bed of the pickup. They're very disrespectful. >> Okay. that I have a problem with. There is in real estate laws, you should know this that um you have the right peaceful, quiet enjoyment of your property. >> Well, like I said, unless they're on your property, >> then it's it's not really an issue. >> However, this would mark the first of many 911 calls made by the same woman, 58-year-old Susan Lewis Lawrence. >> Hello. >> Hello. Hi. How are you? >> Sheriff's office. >> Hi. >> What's going on this evening? >> Lots of children screaming their full heads off running around. Um I had my truck in front here so I didn't have to listen to the screaming and yelling. As soon as I move the truck, the kids are coming up. I'm like, "Guys, stop. They know they're not supposed to be over here. They controls me to shut up." I said, "Don't be disrespectful." and he's exchanging back and forth. I'm like, "Listen, my name is Dr. Shut up and just call me." I'm like, "No, no, no. We're not going to do that." >> I said, "Go wherever you live." All of a sudden, I come over here. If you cheat myself like that again, I'm going to rip your out and go beat you up. Excuse me. I have a bloody girlfriend. And I said, "See that no trespassing sign? Get off my porch." >> And no, I'm not the I'm calling the sheriff's department. Hey, Miss Susan. >> Yes. >> Hey. Um, so we talked to the kids, we also talked we found the mom that came over here to she so according to mom that came over here of the son. Um, she said that she tried to come over here to like work out some kind of solution with you about her son just so that you know her son's been grounded. Um, but ultimately the kids are going to be kids. This is an open lot. They're going to play football and whatever. >> There's no open lot here. This is >> it's an open field for them to go play. >> It's not an open field. It's two um parcels that one belongs to him, one belongs to the neighbor. It's not an open line. >> Okay. So, it's it doesn't even belong to you. >> I understand. >> Okay. So, we've we've told the kids and we've also told the kids' [music] parents. Obviously, this is going to be a continuous problem. So, we've instructed the kids to not bother you. Okay. >> Or or or if they if you come out and you say something to them, they're supposed to go get their parents. And and >> and what about her threat that she's going to come and drag my and beat me? >> Uh well, that's not what she said. according to her. >> Oh, no. That honest to God, she said that I wouldn't call. >> Well, we've also explained to her that if there's any future problems that either she calls or and now I'm here telling you that if there's a future problem that you need to call us. It is going to be documented that that's what you're claiming she said, but it's also going to be documented what she and I talked about. >> Okay. No, no, absolutely. She told me she was going to drag me and beat me. >> I wouldn't make anything up. >> Okay. >> I understand. I I understand that. Um, but like I said, just stay separated from them. And >> with that, >> it's he said, she said, she said, she said, and on top of what the kids said. The kids said that you had came out and you were coming at them in aggressive manner, and they thought that you were going to hurt him. So, >> Oh, yeah. I'm sure >> I I have to believe you, but I also have to believe them. >> Hey, Miss Susan. >> Yeah. >> Hey, I'm Deputy Weaver. >> Sorry. I came home tonight and I was home maybe 10 minutes. My friend had come in with me. >> He left. As soon as he left, someone's throwing stuff at this window. >> This window here? >> Yeah. The sliders. >> What the hell is going on? This man next door has been harassing me for the past 3 months. I don't know what his problem is. This guy in the next building and there's no trespassing signs. Kids have been out of control. over screaming, yelling, and Wednesday night he's walking right past here screaming, yelling at the top of his lungs. I have cameras and uh I have no idea what's this man's problem is, but it's probably him. His car is parked behind tonight. And I have no idea what this >> What was he throwing at your window? >> I have no idea, but it was loud enough that I >> say cuz it doesn't look as though >> um maybe the stick >> got damaged or anything [music] like that. I don't know. But I mean, it was loud. Do you want to see the video of this man going through the window? >> Yeah, if you have video of it. Where's the camera at? >> In my windows. >> There's no trespassing signs here and here. And the kids and the gentlemen just keep coming on the property. And they're like, "Oh, we're just going to visit somebody." I'm like, "Who are you visiting? Come on." Really? There's no one here with kids. I've already been fired from one job because they said, "Oh, well, you didn't realize you're next to a school." And I'm not next to a school. >> See that? He's coming, too. Mhm. >> He was actually screaming at the top of his lung. Why? I have no idea. >> I mean, if you consider getting the camera that like kind of shows in here. >> There's a camera right there. >> Is there? >> It unfortunately right now at night because this is so that we actually have to turn off late from outside because the kids were out here till 11:00 at night screaming at the top of the walls. >> Mhm. >> I I guess the parents don't understand that, you know, we could talk like this. I was raised, I guess, in a different way. The calls kept coming day after day. And with each one, the [music] tension escalated just a little more. >> Hello. How are you? >> I'm good. How are you? >> Aggravated. >> Okay. So, what's going on? >> Okay. I've got young ladies who just keep coming by and think it's hysterical while I'm working to um bring their animals and scream while I'm on the phone. I'm an insurance agent. >> Mhm. and I deal with HIPPA and I deal with personal uh you know I'm dealing with community plans and stuff very very sensitive information. I asked them to move they refuse to move. I'm like guys you can't be here. I mean literally they cannot be here. There's signs no trespassing by the windows for a reason. There's no trespassing because they can't be here. And then they standing here telling me okay enough. >> They need to be trespass here. Um, so what I'm looking at where they're at, we can't tr you can't trespass anybody from that location. >> They're right in front of my windows. >> But here is showing them in the parking lot. >> The whole this whole thing is private property. >> Yes. The issue is is that the parking lot is a common area, >> but then they don't live here. And I just don't know what to do with these kids. I mean, it it's ridiculous insane at this point. I mean, they can't come when I'm on the phone. It's a HIPPA violation. I mean, what do I do with these children? >> If you're Are you inside the house? >> I'm inside the house. >> Can they hear you on the phone? >> Absolutely. >> How can they hear you on the phone? >> Because I told them to leave and they told me more than I can hear them through the window. >> So, they can hear your phone call. >> Yeah, absolutely. Sweet. >> The only thing I can suggest would be, baby, try and soundproof the room so they don't hear the phone call. >> Hello. How are you? >> Good. Is it Susan? Yes. >> Okay. What's going on? >> Uh the kid from across the street and his little buddies, they're over here. They're stepping on the sides and stuff. He brings out a puppy. He wants to put his puppy in my truck. >> I don't go for that. >> In the bed of your truck. >> Yeah. >> Who? >> Um this little child for me because he thought he was being so bloody cute. >> That little child. >> He was the one that put the dog in. He was trying to >> What kind of dog was it? >> Um just a little small dog. >> Okay. >> And um >> it's just they just do stuff like come up and you know knock on the door, run away, do all kinds of stuff. >> I work from home. >> Mhm. >> It's really aggravating 8:00 at night. It's like just leave me alone. >> She did talk to her. >> Okay. I explain to her that there doesn't need to be a call service every time her kids are playing in the road. But on June the 2nd, 2023, things took [music] a drastic turn for the worst. What it started as a minor neighborhood dispute ended with one neighbor firing at the other right here. >> Yeah. Do you have your trouble bag? >> There is still someone with a gun. >> She's inside. >> Okay. >> Where? >> Where? Exmilitary. She's in the house, bro. That apartment right here. This first apartment. >> Wake up. I need like a 9:4. >> Baby, wake up. >> Baby, wake up. >> Wake up. Wake up. Baby, wake up. Baby, wake up. Come on. Wake up. >> We need to We need to do CPR real quick. >> BABY, WAKE UP. >> CBR. >> BABY, wake up. >> Let me see. Do we have any PS? >> Do we have any PS? station. >> WE GOT A POLL. >> WE got >> All right. SHERIFF'S OFFICE, COME OUTSIDE WITH YOUR HANDS UP. >> Is the Mar COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE COME OUTSIDE with your hands up? Show me your hands. Show me your hands. Turn around. >> Turn around. Where's your gun at? >> You got hands. >> You're going to be detained. >> Is there anybody else in the house? >> Um, can I just get my >> No, not right now. >> All right. >> You're not under arrest. You're being detained. >> Okay. Fine. >> Come over here. >> Oh, wait. Don't lose the door. I have two cats inside. One cat's still running. I need medic. >> Get my med first. Come here. Come here. Come here. >> The the police bager. >> Green shoulder bag. >> Here. Here. >> Go assess the person now. >> Okay. >> Officers arrive stunned. The suspect, Susan Louise Lawrence, looked like someone who could barely [music] walk, let alone end her neighbor's life in cold blood. But the scene they stepped into would quickly [music] challenge that assumption. >> Move. She's got a paw. Move. She does. She's got a >> Where is the gunshot? Right here. What did she wear with >> here? Like a 22 or something. Oh my god. >> She said she has a >> Yes, >> she's got poles. >> Very faint. Very faint. >> There's no planning to do this for the longest time. >> For ever. >> Oh my god. >> I got it. I got it. I got it. Where's she shot at? Right. Right. Right here. >> Right here. >> Chest. Right here. Right. Right side out of chest. Okay. >> There's no exit. I don't see a lot of blood. I don't see the blood or something. >> I got her baby. >> Get my kids. >> They're in my >> That's the mother right there. That's her mother right there. Hey, boss. Keep keep the light over here. >> I know you're inside. Focus on CPR, man. Let me do the rest. >> Work together. Not harder. neighbor. >> Oh my god. >> Imagine if this was our >> deal right now. >> Take a few steps back. Just keep the light right here. >> If you need to switch out, let somebody know. >> Got you. >> All right, hold on. Let me cut so I can see her back. >> Oh my god. Kids are saying that they only you only heard one shot. She got the single. Okay. Okay. >> I knew I knew when I seen them over here playing today. I said she was going to act. >> We always cop on this woman. I >> They won't do nothing about her. The kids playing, bro. I knew. >> You guys are positive. There was no exit wound. I checked in the back for me. Let me roll her over. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Trick her back. >> No exit. >> No. No exit. >> How long you been down? >> Uh maybe been 20 minutes now. >> Yeah. >> I feel the pulse. I can feel it. I feel it's very faint, but I feel it. >> No exit wounds. >> No exit wounds. >> No. It sounded like a 22 or something. >> Wow. >> We still need to clear it. >> While the paramedics hustled to save a GK Owens, Susan was busy making herself comfortable. >> Hey, there's a little boy by my car. He's the one that was the primary witness. Okay. Show me which one you were referring to. >> Hey, where's my phone? >> Where's >> She should have been in jail. He should have. >> Did you see him? >> How you holding up, man? >> Give me a second. She's going to be in there a minute. Will you put her handcuffs in front? >> Yeah. >> All right. Here. That's fine. We'll we'll figure it out. All right. All right. With chaos everywhere, officers rushed to investigate and talk to as many eyewitnesses as possible. >> I was outside. >> Okay. >> I can tell you what I heard. >> Uh the kids were playing outside earlier, right? In his in his yard. And what? >> Yes. Now. And one of the little kids, he left his iPad on the ground. And I guess the old white lady that that shot the lady, she grabbed his iPad and she threw a roller skate at him and um he went or she came out with the umbrella, too, and was trying to swing at him or something like that. >> Okay. >> And then uh >> is that what you heard or is that what you saw? That's what I heard. >> Okay. Let's just focus on what you saw. >> And what I the only thing I heard was her knocking on the door. Pretty loud, right? Who knocking on the door? Uh the lady that got shot, right? She was knocking on the other lady's door. >> Yeah. Like to to see what had went between the two kids, you know, like heard >> Did you see anything or >> you got to talk to kids? You got to talk to the kids. >> You got to talk to the little kid and the older one. >> Okay. >> All I heard was knocking and then a gunshot. That's it. There were no fighting, none of that. >> But you didn't actually see anything. >> No, sir. No. Okay. All right. Thanks, man. Um stay right in the area if we need you. We'll let you know. All right. I appreciate it. 65 Victor. >> This is supposed to be one of the kids that saw it. >> Where is he? >> Bravo. 65 1050. >> This is him right here. >> Yeah. to the Bringers Academy on a white. >> All right. First, um, give me this. >> It's okay. Relax. On the app, you're good. >> What's your name? What does you need? >> It's all right. You can take a deep breath. Take as long as you need. There you go. >> One child, still in shock, struggled to process the horror unfolding around them. But once an officer gently calmed him down, he shared details that horrified the investigators. All right. So, tell me what you saw here tonight. >> I haven't seen much. Um, I was I was we were playing around. I was on my um electric scooter. >> Okay. >> And then my friend's mom got mad. Oh, my friend's mom got mad at the lady because she took something. I don't know. >> Your friend's mom? >> Yeah. is uh which one was your friend's mom? >> Which one was this right there? >> The one laying on the ground. >> The one that was laying on the ground. >> Okay. So that that was your friend's mom. She got mad because the other lady had taken an iPad. >> Yes. >> Okay. So what happened? >> And she gave it back. >> The the the other lady gave it back. >> Yes. And then so then my friend's she came and banged on the door her um window. >> Okay. >> And look that she banged on that and then the door. >> Okay. >> And then I was on my electric right here and then I don't know where I hear the big bang. >> Okay. >> I was running. >> Did you actually see >> anybody with any kind of gun? anything like that or did you just hear? >> I just hear him. >> Okay. What did you see after that? >> I don't know. I came outside and I saw my principal on the ground. >> Okay. >> Good job. It's just my kid. He went into the house. >> Um he was all panicking and scared. I'm like, "Whoa, what happened?" You know, I see him all. >> So, no. Whoa. Well, he was he was having a hard time explaining. I'm like, "What happened?" I mean, I heard I heard before that I heard something like like a 22. >> Yeah. I went off and I'm like I mean obviously I know when I hear you know. >> Yeah. >> And then >> I mean when he said that I put one and two together I'm like whoa let me see. So I'm I'm walking out. I see everyone going crazy. The kids crying over there. >> Started say get everybody's information. Do not do interviews. >> Um Major Crimes going to do the interviews. Okay. So just gather information. >> Get all his information. His son's information. >> I already got it all. >> We got to go get >> I I need to get the suspect. >> You got his address and phone number. >> Yes, sir. We might not let you go pretty late. >> That's fine, man. I mean, >> we want to get all the answers. >> And and I'm just letting you guys know. I'm letting you guys know this neighborhood here is hot. It's It's always hot. You know, there's a lot of things. >> I come through here as much as I can, >> but the reason why I'm saying it is she's not safe coming back. >> You know what I'm saying? I'm not I get what you're saying. >> I think I don't give a [ __ ] about her. You know what I mean? But >> I got you, my man. >> Yeah. >> All right. If we need anything, we'll come knock. All right. Realizing the gravity of the situation, officers contacted the children's father. And when he arrived, they had devastating news to deliver. >> Victim's children, >> sir. Where's >> I haven't got any of that, but I was getting Africa's information, please. >> Hey, sir. I just need to get your information and stuff real quick. Okay. How is y'all's uh parenting plan set up? Well, I just come out to see a neighbor. >> You don't have like custody or anything? >> No. Okay. >> Yeah. If you want to >> I just need to finish getting little dude's information here. >> I don't know nothing about here. >> He's not yours. >> No. >> It's only two here. >> Oh, okay. >> Where's their dad? >> African. I have no idea. >> What do you know? I don't know where Grandma's coming here, too. But she's coming from Where's Grandma coming from? >> Fort Lauderdale. Okay. Perfectly. We're sorry. We have to deliver this message to y'all. >> Did y'all arrest a lady? >> She She is arrested. Yes, sir. >> How you going to tell that lady her mom? >> I don't know. We'll just take one step at a time. You guys are all first and then >> I got to go. >> I don't know how y'all going to do it. I can't do it. >> I'm going to do it. >> Yeah. Why don't you just stay and relax and then once you have the strengths >> I'm going to bring them on. >> No, you bring them on. >> I don't know. >> I'm trying. >> You probably do it right there. >> I'm trying. Oh my god. I'm just thinking about it again. >> The kid I haven't think about. >> I don't know how to do it. I'm going just have to tell you. >> No, there >> I don't know what to do with that. >> Y'all know what to do. >> Do you want me to come in? >> No. >> Okay. Yeah. Let them be. That's what I'm going to do. >> I can't be. >> It was a moment no parent should ever face as a father was forced to break the unthinkable news to his children. A moment that would forever change their lives. You can just hold him a second. >> Okay. All right. tell you today has been a very bad day. There's something bad that's happened and all y'all seen it. Y'all understand it. Y'all experienced it, right? >> Okay. Y'all love me. Okay. Y'all love mom. All right. Well, I got some bad news to tell you. Mom is not coming back anymore. Come. Uh-uh. Come. Come. Come. No. No. No. Come here. Come over here. Listen to me. No. No. I know. Okay. It's okay. I know. Okay. I know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. [crying] >> I am sorry. I'm so sorry. [laughter] >> It's all right. You guys are going to be okay. It's all right. >> [laughter] >> You guys all right? >> Okay. [groaning and screaming] >> I know this ain't easy. >> I know. I know. right now. God, give me your scared right now. Right now, God [crying] It's okay. It's okay to cry hard right now, guys. God, give it a stick. >> I hate her. >> Oh, she's doing jail for good. Can you see my own? >> Later, a detective [music] gently questioned the children to understand what had happened. What emerged was a heartbreaking reminder of just how easily this tragedy could have been avoided. >> Your say your brother left his tablet out in that open field right there where that sign at. >> Yeah. I I don't know where he left it. >> I just know he told me that he left him and then he asked right back. He told me that the Karen dropped it and then threw threw roll skates at him. And then we went to go get our mom. Then my mom was like, "Throw something at me. Throw something at me." And you know like throw something at me and I guess and heard gunshots. ran and he said that she shot my mom through the window and then my mom ran saying call 911 [groaning] cuz she fell right next to that tree at that point. She told me like to hang back with my brother cuz he was running out the door coming to hang back. I did. I was just waiting there and then you know here comes >> I saw my mom running. I thought I thought she strong in her house just to scare us. But you did hear your mom banging on the door. Boom boom boom boom. Throw something at me. Throw something at me. And then you heard a gunshot. Okay. Have you ate? When's the last time you ate something? Been a while. >> Okay. All right. Um, so we make sure y'all get something to eat. I'll talk to dad if we have to, you know, Yeah. Dad do something for me. You can just make sure if you want to cry, you cry. If you want to scream, you scream. Okay? Whatever you want to do, I want you I want you to be able to do it. I want to do it. Okay? Because this is hard. It's hard. It's hard for me. That's why I know it's hard for you. All right? >> Meanwhile, back at the station, Susan showed little to no remorse, speaking coldly as if the loss of life meant nothing at all. >> So, what happened tonight that led to the conclusion that >> Well, I I just I'm like, "Kids, go home." So they go home and then all of a sudden she comes out and she is [music] just banging on my door. I'm like, "Go away. I I'm not not dealing with you tonight." And then she started banging so hard everything starts shaking. And I'm like, "You really need to leave." And then she I'm going to kill you. And she's just banging banging away, you know, and I'm like, "Oh, this is crazy." And since she has actually hardened me, I'm like, "It just just keeps getting worse and worse." I'm like, "I don't know what to do with her." And she bang so hard it looked like my door was going to fly off. And that's I just I panicked and I was like, "Oh my gosh, she's really going to [music] me this time, you know, and so I don't even actually remember picking up the gun." I just remember shooting. >> Where do you keep the gun? Usually >> it's in my bedroom. >> That's where you keep it like in in a cabinet or something or just like >> It's just I actually keep it in the trash can. >> Okay. >> And I'm like, "Oh my god." And then I just started panicking and I really feared for my life. I mean, honest to God, I was like, "Oh, Jesus Christ. I'm a nervous wreck. you know, I'm not supposed to be getting nervous or anything like this because I have um an aneurysm on my left kidney artery. And so, like, you're supposed to stay calm. You're not supposed to do anything. And this woman just keeps anti she's got the kids calling me. I go, they like, "Hey, Karen." Like, I have a doctoral degree. >> Do not talk to me like I am one of your peers. >> So, they don't really have any respect. >> No respect. >> So, in that call notes, there's never any mention of you saying that they said that they're going to kill you. It was more or less that they're harassing you, that they're that >> Oh, no. I told the lady that they said they were going to kill me. >> Okay. >> No, no, no. I was very um specific when I spoke. >> Okay. Did you see who was out there at that time? >> I just knew it was AJ by her voice cuz she we've had she screamed at me before, you know, and I'm like, "Oh, great. It's her again." >> So, but you had already contacted 911. Did the Did they advise you that someone was responding? officer was responding. >> They said something was coming out and they said, "Lock the doors, you know, make sure you don't go outside." I'm like, "Okay." You know, usual. >> Okay. And what was the what was the deal with the roller skate? Because again, we talked to a lot of people who were outside and witness some of those. >> They keep leaving all their toys around. The other day I almost killed myself going out. I had an early morning doctor's appointment and I didn't see the roller skate and I almost kicked myself. Oh my gosh. You know, stop already. This is not your garbage yard, you know. And the kids got his roller skates there and I'm like, "No, take your roller skates." And I threw him roller [music] skates. I'm like, "Go fetch me." Because >> Did you throw that at them or >> Oh, no. Okay. No, I didn't. >> Did you throw that at them or >> Oh, no. Okay. No, I just >> And what is the thing about the umbrella? Can you have an umbrella? >> I thought it was raining before and I walked out and it wasn't raining. I'm like, "Okay." So, >> okay. And you like swung it at them or so or one of them? >> I wasn't even close. I was still inside the vestibule. Maybe I did step out and I'm like, "Guys, go away. Go away." But I would never touch them, you know? >> They like swat at them with it, but not >> Exactly. >> If I did it, it was probably cuz I was just so you like, come on. >> But I know when you say if you did, but is that what happened? I mean, we got to kind of get specific about this because it's big it's a big deal. >> I I understand >> someone's dead. >> Oh, Jesus Christ. Susan was released for the time being, but no matter how many lies she told [music] or stories she twisted, the truth eventually caught up with her. When she was called back in, officers were no longer willing to go lenient on her. >> All right, Susan. All right, we're going to have you go with this deputy here. Um, >> no. >> I'm sorry. >> No. >> No. What? >> I can't. >> What's wrong? What's going on? >> I just can't. I'm sorry. I can't do this. I mean, we're unfortunately we're to that point where that's what's going to happen. Um, [music] obviously this isn't a conviction. This is you being charged and then you're going to have your day in court to um present your side of the story. Okay. So, you're going to go with this deputy. >> No, I'm not. >> You're going to be booked in. >> No, I'm not. >> And fingerprinted. You're going to take your pictures and then you will have uh an arrangement in the morning. >> Sorry. >> Probably go ahead and put handcuffs on. Let's get >> handcuffed. >> Stand up. >> Don't touch me. >> Susan, >> stand up. Susan, >> no. >> It can go one of two ways. It can go an easy way or it can go a really hard way. >> I'm sorry. >> We don't want to go the hard way. >> I'm so sorry. I >> Susan, put yourself in our position. We There's no choice in this. You're going You're going over there. It's >> I'm sorry. I can't do this. Susan, [music] you understand that from from the point of the story that that you've given us that by refusing and and resisting that it's it's making making you look bad. Okay. And I understand your reluctance to want to go. >> Good. I just can't. >> Okay. Well, they have medical staff over there that can assist. >> There's a nurse right in the front. >> They can you give them the prescription medications that you're taking, all that. They will assist you in making sure that you get the care you need. But we're going over there. Okay. Okay, you're going to go over there and >> I just [music] can't do this. >> Okay. Well, >> come on, Susan. Stand up. We don't have time to debate. >> I I can't do this. >> Okay, but do you understand that you're under arrest and you're going to be taken to the jail one way or another? Okay. >> I don't care, >> Susan. >> I I just can't do this. I'm sorry. [music] >> I don't what you're saying and doing right now is not is not reasonable. >> I know it's not I just can't do this. >> So, you [music] when you say it's you know it's not reasonable. That doesn't make sense to me. >> I understand. I just can't do this. I'm sorry. Then this is why we're in this position here, Susan, is because the decisions you make are not reasonable. You you make just like what we're experiencing right now. >> I'm sorry. I just can't do this. I can't do this. >> I have had people sit in this chair [music] that have done things and they get up, they walk out on their own accord. They've done some really bad things. [music] Okay, you're not the only person, but I need you. >> I just feel horrible. I can't do this. >> Okay. Well, we're we're going to go to the jail. There's no changing this. There's no stopping it. Okay. We're not going to body. We're going to we're going to take you to the jail. We'd rather you walk on your own. We'd rather you just walk down there. It'd be so much better for [music] everybody if we could just walk down. >> Can you just stand up for me? >> No. >> So, what do you plan on sitting here the rest of the night? >> I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm probably going to die of a heart attack. >> Well, like I said, they have medical staff over there. We want to be able to get you over there. >> The quicker we get you over there, the quicker someone over there that's in medical cance. >> Susan, this is what's going to happen. We're going to put you in handcuffs and if we have to forcefully bring you out there, that's what we have to do because we are obligated to take you to the jail now. Okay. >> Thank you for standing up. >> Sorry. I just [music] >> I understand that. >> So, behind your back for me. >> Thank you, Susan. >> I didn't do this on purpose. This wasn't a purposeful act. I did not premeditate it. I didn't do anything like that. This is ridiculous. We're going to go out this way. GK Owen's demise [music] left behind four children and a community in shock. Susan Lawrence was later arrested and her claims of self-defense [music] were rejected as investigators determined that deadly force was never justified. In 2024, a jury found her guilty of manslaughter, bringing a legal [music] end to the dispute. While Susan was a neighbor from hell, she was nothing compared to Gonzalez, a man who fired [music] at his neighbor because of road rage. >> Oh my god. >> I need to take that from you. >> Take it. >> Okay, good. Good. It's my weapon. No, it is good. This guy's aing weirdo. He came threatening my life. I gave him a warning shot. On August the 29th, 2022, [music] police rushed to a shooting on Val Verde Southwest in Albuquerque after receiving several frantic 911 calls. [music] But among them, one stood out. A call from the shooter himself, calmly claiming he had just ended his neighbor's life in self-defense outside [music] his home. What officers would soon uncover, however, was a story fueled not by fear, but by anger and [music] deep-seated resentment. Oh no. >> I need to take that from you. >> Go ahead. Take it. >> Okay. It's my weapon. >> Okay. And then do you have any >> It's loaded. So take a donut. It has a chamber. >> That's fine. Do you have any mag? No, I don't. But just make sure you pull that mag out. It's chamber. Just be careful. >> All right. You think it doesn't matter? You still have to get handcuffed, bro. >> We weren't here when it happened. >> Oh, I know. Oh, you haven't even asked me one question. >> That's why. >> Is your cab on? >> Of course they're on. >> Yes, it is. >> I had someone coming here to film this. >> Okay, >> good. >> No, it is good. This guy's [ __ ] weirdo, >> sir. I'm not going to ask you anything right now. >> You don't have any knives on you. >> Negative. He got my weapon. >> That's your truck. >> That's not my truck. I don't know who him or that truck is. >> Okay. >> He came threatening my life. I gave him a warning truck. >> Don't Don't >> Okay, I won't say. You ask me questions, you cuff me. I'm not I'm not >> I know we we [music] the only the only question >> read him his rights. Um and then we'll secure him >> and just work. >> What am I being arrested for? >> You're not being arrested. Just on the other side of this uh >> Yeah, it appears he's Yeah, there was no pulse or anything. >> Okay, I'm going to walk this way and go out, >> please. Thank you. >> Once it was discovered that the [music] victim had passed away, the case no longer remained just a road rage dispute. It had escalated into a fullscale [music] investigation, one that would leave a lasting mark on everyone involved. Hello, sir. Call came in. We We have uh the shooter in custody. It looks like it's directly in front of his house on Valverie. 1620 Valverie. Maybe a witness called it in. We'll we'll definitely find that out for you. But then the offender also called it in. I call him the offender just because he's the shooter, but he's saying it was justified. Looks like a [music] road rage kind of thing. I'm going to say victim, the GSW uh with to the head and maybe to the chest and it looks like there's two holes and uh two guys who don't know each other according to the uh shooter. >> Why am I getting put on the car anyway? >> You're not standing over there. We're going to talk to other people, see if they saw anything. >> There was no one here but me. I think if anyone has anything, Mr. Saul has that camera there. I'm pretty sure he saw some motion and he'll probably be able to see everything on that camera. >> At first glance, it appeared the situation may have spiraled [music] out of control, forcing Gonzalez to take an irreversible step. But when officers reviewed the camera footage, a very [music] different story emerged. One that revealed who the real aggressor was. >> Oh my god. Get out. There was a person out here. Do you know where they went? >> No. Let's contact them. >> Okay. >> Did you see anything? Is there anything you want to >> Is uh Joseph still here? >> He is. He's >> I don't want to talk with him around here, but I'll talk to you after he's gone. >> Well, he's in my car. He's not He can >> It doesn't matter. He can see me through here. >> He's in that car there. >> Okay. >> I don't want to talk. was already me and four other neighbors. We got it on surveillance, but I when he goes away, I'll talk to you. Yeah. >> The suspect's vague and cryptic responses immediately unsettled the [music] officers. As they began processing Gonzalez, his friendly demeanor faded, revealing something far more troubling underneath. [music] >> Can you call you Lieutenant cuz I know, please. >> Okay. >> Cuz I'm not arrested there. >> I would, but give me my phone. >> Have a seat, Joseph. I'm not going to give you your phone at this time. >> You cannot have my phone. We're not going to use her. I'm not going to put it in the front seat. I'm going to put it in the front seat. Nobody's going to touch it. Okay. >> I gave you my weapon. I told you what happened. Please let me have my phone. You cannot have my property. I'm going to tell you that the last time. Now, if you take it, it's stealing. >> Joseph, it's You're taking my phone. >> You're under investigative detention right now. >> That's fine. I'm not charged with the crime. >> You won't call your LT. I saw you tell her no. I want your LT here. I don't want to talk to you. You're biased towards me, dude. You've been since I met you. >> You came here in your fatigues that one time acting like a badass. I remember you, dude. I did put handcuffs on >> for what? I'm a victim. Someone came and threatened my life. You put me in the back of a car with handcuffs. You sick, dude. >> You are, bro. >> All right. >> So, these detectives on scene said they we are ready to head to the main for your interview. There's a detective there. And then >> So, we're headed there. Me and you. Let's go. >> All right. >> Good luck. >> All right. Hey, looks it is what it is. You know what? Don't say that, bro. You know what I'm saying, bro? It's >> You know what? If I end up in [ __ ] prison for some bull, you better send his [ __ ] commissary, dude. >> That attitude didn't improve even after Gonzalez was transported to the station. Instead, his [music] behavior grew increasingly erratic. >> How long are they going to be before I can get these cuffs off? >> I don't know. I'll call him, I guess. >> I I I know they told you to put these on. Could you have a superior come and talk to you? See if I can get these on. >> Cuz I'm not being charged with anything. If I'm sitting here waiting, things are hurting my business. Is >> he actually here now? >> Is he? Awesome. Let's get him off. >> All right. I mean, if I'm not being charged, I know you guys want to watch me through the cameras, but let's just get this over with. You [ __ ] are ridiculous. I swear to God. Treat me like just cuz of my little brother. >> Sorry. Right there. Yeah. Well, I'm going to wait for BS, so I might as well just be comfortable. >> What's going on, man? >> Being treated like a damn criminal over here, and I'm not happy about it. >> I'm I apologize for that, man. I'm sorry it took me a second to get here. >> I saw you hiding in the corner. >> What's that? >> I saw you hiding in that corner. >> No, I'm not hiding. >> I did saw you. You waited for me to talk to her, and I saw you. That's okay. Let's get this over with. >> All right. What's your name, man? >> Joseph's mother. >> No, you're your head. Let him grow. >> No, don't even worry about it. >> Joseph is nice to meet you, sir. You want to talk or are we going somewhere else? >> So, I'm not the primary case agent. I'm just here assisting. I just got in. Uh, the reason I didn't come in initially right away is cuz I wanted to find out exactly what's going on first before I talked to you. I shouldn't have been in custom way over here, but >> not only I know it's not I know I know it's not it's it's to the officers >> discretion and that's how I got >> Well, not necessarily our when you we're transporting people they have to be in handcuffs. That's just the issue. Once they're in the back, they have to be in handcuffs. >> I've talked with detectives before in here. Not once have I came in here with cuss. >> This is the first time I ever came in here to talk to detectives with cuss. >> Okay. I know. >> I'm not a criminal. >> Nothing happened to me. I was threatened. Someone threatened my life. That's why we're here. I shouldn't be treated like a commone. I'm very, very disappointed about that. Someone threaten my life and I have the right to protect myself. Bottom line. Other than that, can I get some water, please? >> Yeah, of course. Yeah, it's safe. I'll get you a bottle of water. I just wanted to make sure you had your cuffs off and you were cool. You don't need a bathroom or anything. >> I might be here in a bit. Yeah, I need you to calm down. I was trying to sleep. >> I get it, man. >> Cuz I know it's going to be a couple hours. You guys want to watch me on the camera, you'll watch me sleep. I'll fall asleep. No. >> Terry, show me how to fall asleep many times. You'll go into going to where we need to go. So, >> yeah. If you guys want to ask any questions, just ask. If you're going to hold me here, if you're going to arrest me, let's just get on with it. >> Yep. Like I said, >> however you guys want to plan or to do what you want to do, let's get it done with. Of course, why waste time? >> Gonzalez continued to insist on his innocence. But detectives weren't buying it. Before long, the interview drifted into uncomfortable territory, and the tension inside the room began to rise. >> If you're not dealing with a normal dude that you guys deal with, I'm not some criminal. >> No. And I'm not trying to treat you. >> I'm telling you right now, what are one of the two things? If I was in your position, >> you're either going to go home. >> Oh, we're gonna charge you. >> Well, it sounds like >> what two things. >> Those are the two. >> That's all I need you to be up straight up. And you're not straight up already. You're already trying to work around. This is very simple. You guys are making it more than what it is. >> Well, it's complicated. We We had >> It's not complicated. What's complicated about? You tell me what you're heard. >> Well, we have to do a very very complete and thorough investigation before we make any decision. I can't just walk in here and tell you either this is happening or this is happening. job. >> I don't know what you guys You guys are running rapid and and as far as your detectives go and my family's witnessed, you guys botch it all the time. You guys don't know what the hell you're doing. It is what it is. A lot of times it's not some big elaborate freaking YouTube story or Netflix special. I'm telling you legally, my rights, you guys are violating them. You either charge me or tell me what I'm being detained for. You can only detain me a certain amount of time, not ours. We both know that. >> No, I know. I can tell that you're you're upset. You're pissed off. >> I'm not upset. I'm not pissed off. I just don't like to be BS. >> And I'm not trying to BS you. And I'm sorry if I'm coming off that way. That's just the way I talk. I'll try to work on it and not >> No, no, buddy. It's fine. You're only as good as your superiors, brother. You got taught a certain way, and it's not your fault. >> The passive aggressive remarks hinted at mounting frustration, but that frustration soon boiled over into open hostility when the investigator entered the room and pressed [music] Gonzalez further. Pardon me. Sorry. >> Mhm. You right there. So, let's open this. And your name? >> Joseph Gonzalez. >> Joseph Gonzalez with S or a Z. >> S. Uh, good contact number for you. >> 492. Where's my cell phone? >> Uh, the deputy has it still. >> They told me you were going to have it. 505. >> Mhm. >> 4928251. >> So, you know, we're right. We're investigating that happened early this morning. >> Um, so because of that, like I said, um, I'm going to ask you some some questions that are directly related to that investigation. Okay. Been attacked, been detained. She run to our substation here. So, I am going to advise you for brand warnings. Okay. Do you know what those are? What am I being detained for? >> The investigation will happen or it's for >> I'm being detained for an investigation. How long is an investigation to be detained? How long can you detain someone for an investigation? >> Pretty much long time. Yeah. Probably like 12 hours. >> So we could you could sit here for 12 hours with nothing being said. If I wanted to attorney, you could keep me here for 12 hours and decide if you wanted to charge me. >> Basically. So that's why I want to get your >> That's why I don't want no claim. >> Okay. Okay. So you're not going to provide a statement? >> No, I tried. I don't want them to take it. So I definitely would wait for a lawyer then. >> Okay. No problem. I appreciate it. >> I did try. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> You guys didn't want to talk to me on scene and neither did your sheriff's office. >> And as if the constant disrespect toward officers wasn't enough, [music] Gonzalez then crossed the line by doing something inappropriate. >> I said I need the restroom and you don't treat me like a animal. I knocked multiple times. Here's the thing. My is right there. >> I heard you've been patting on the door. I would have hurt you. >> Hold on. You heard me. >> No, I didn't. >> I banged hard as [ __ ] >> I'm doing I'm doing other stuff, man. >> So, have a seat. You are in my custody because you're being charged. So have a seat with what? With homicide. A homicide. Have a seat. Let's go in jail. >> When someone gets charged with battery on a household member or something interrogation, >> they don't come in here and it's very quick. People I'm not scared. Now I'm going to tell my lawyer and now I got to go to jail, get bonded out, all that BS to go to court. >> You had your opportunity >> for someone that tried to sit there and mean you guys are treating me like a criminal. This ain't right, dude. It's not. Just cuz who my little brother is. >> That ain't right. >> Let's bring it back. Yeah, you guys didn't play that game. >> Okay. You cannot say that the death the detective didn't come in here to read your rights and then >> No, he didn't read my rights. >> Yes, he did. I heard him read you right. >> Well, you read my rights. I remember you read my rights. >> And he read them as well and he asked you if you wanted to give your side of the story. >> That's what I told him. >> You didn't tell him your side of the story. Then >> you guys did not want to hear it. >> He wanted to hear it. >> No, I have my day in court. >> You'll have your day in court? >> Yes, I will. That's all I want. >> I don't get a hurry up. Let's get it over with. I didn't know him. Why did he stop back all the way up and come and and say he's going to kill me? I don't understand this. Listen, I'm not incriminating. I'm not worried about incriminating this that or what happened happened. I didn't say it didn't. Not once. >> Yeah. >> Someone threatened my life. What am I supposed to do? What's a warning shot attended for? >> Tell me. We don't We don't do warning shots. >> Thanks for saying that. But >> I'm just saying we can't. >> You guys should. >> No, cuz we It's like I said, every situation is different. You know what a warning shot does though? >> It gives you No, you really are. You definitely are. So, you got to know what you're doing. >> You know what I mean? It smells awareness. Very simple. You don't want no endies, you know? >> Yeah. So the thing about it is you do a warning shot and you're able to assess that person and they're either they're scared they're attacking or they just don't know what the [ __ ] they're doing. They might be on and you know what I'm saying? So that warning shot will let you determine a lot of things within a split second. >> See and right now where we're talking through all these variables that you were talking about earlier it's >> that's every situation. It's different but answer. >> No it is to protect you and your person. It's a very simple answer. What would you do? protect yourself in the appropriate way. >> Joseph Gonzalez was initially charged with firstdegree in the shooting of Abner Analon. His trial began on April the 23rd and he was acquitted in May after the jury failed to reach a verdict which resulted in a mistrial. At the moment of making this video, he is currently being held in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center [music] in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gonzalez escalated a simple neighborly dispute and so did this heartless woman who ended the [music] life of her police chief boyfriend with some eye drops then covered the incident by claiming he had co >> got co he was very sick for quite a while. >> How long did you keep him in the camper? Was he in the the RV that night? >> Just like 24 hours. >> Who helped you get him over there? >> I did it by myself. How many people knew that Rick was over there >> in the storage shed? Me. >> On October the 7th, 2022, investigators discovered retired [music] Illinois police chief Richard Young's decomposed remains inside a storage unit rented by his girlfriend, Marci Ogulby, after authorities were alerted to a foul odor coming from the unit located across the street from the home they shared. On October the 11th, 2022, Marci was arrested, but complained [music] of chest pains during the encounter, resulting in her transport to the hospital. There, deputies interrogated her to find out exactly what went down between [music] the two. >> So, you know why we're here? So, I'm going to let you tell what happened. Um Rick got co he was very sick for quite a while. Um he can be a very you know he can be a very difficult person to try to try to deal with. I mean, you know, nice person, you know, but just stubborn, just stubborn when it came to health or anything else. So, um, you know, we had kind of a we've been together for 24 years and, um, I just basically was a bit of a bully and I'd let him, you know, let him bully me cuz I'm a doormat. >> How so? >> Um, like I paid all the bills. I um I mean the man wouldn't go buy himself shoes or jeans or anything else. I took care of everything while he afforded money. Okay. And you know like if we were low on groceries or something or you know I couldn't afford to pay a bill. I mean I was working 10 12 hours a day which were um I worked for Northwestern Medicine. Well health lab um lab core before that. Um, but I mean I'd get up at 4:30 in the morning, go take a shower, go get ready for work, go to work, and come home and he would be he would have sat there all day long after he retired, you know, he would have just sat there all day long and watched porn or did whatever. um you know and and if I said, "Hey, I need some help with the bills this time or whatever," he might eventually give it to me, but he would complain the whole time. And well, what are you doing with your money? Um I'm supporting the whole household. So, you know, our relationship was always if I if I didn't go along with things the way you wanted, he'd make my life miserable. But I loved him, so I put up with it. When he got CO, I couldn't get him to go to the doctor. I couldn't get him to agree to, you know, he was like, "Just give me some medicine. It's a virus. It'll work. It'll ride itself out." He was so sick. He was throwing up for 2 weeks. He couldn't hold anything down, even water. And I would beg him, let me let me take you to the doctor, you know, and you know, or stay in bed, you know, and I did the best I could to take care of him, but he was taking so much medicine and stuff like he was constipated. So I literally, you know, because I mean, I've worked in medicine for 20ome years, you know, I worked in ICU, CCU, you know, I knew what I was doing. you know, I wasn't recklessly, you know, just saying, "Let me take care of you." You know, when he wouldn't go to the doctor, I was like, "Okay." So, I mean, at one point in time, I literally had to he had an impaction, you know, he couldn't poop. And and finally, I sat down and I said, "So, I said, "Do you realize love you?" And I'm just being I'm being tough here telling you you need to go to the hospital and you need to have proper care, you know, because of that. >> According to Marci, Richard passed away from natural causes, [music] having become a victim of the dangerous co virus. She then went into further details about the incident. >> I needed to just report. you know, I should have just called when [clears throat] it happened and done the normal thing that any normal human being would do. Um, and then at that point I was like, "Okay, well, I didn't do the right thing." And I got scared and it just kept compounding and compounding until I I just I was like, "Okay, so what do I do?" you know, I didn't report this. It's, you know, that's a criminal act. It is. And, you know, all I could think about was the the mummy thing, you know, outside of Knoxville and and everything. And it's like, but it [snorts] it wasn't wasn't like a religious thing or, you know, it was me just being depressed and devastated and and and sitting there thinking that I promised him that and and I knew his his oldest child was never going to cooperate with that. And and I mean >> was >> Rusty Richard. I I mean the letter that he let his girlfriend at the time write to his dad was so insulting and degrading. He He's like his mother. he'll do anything do anything for money, you know, and and he wants the world to believe that he is the the almighty warrior, you know, runs around with this big Marine Corps emblem on the back of his truck, but he broke his own knee so he didn't have to deploy, you know, not I'm like, you know, I'm I am all in favor of, you know, people being honored for their service, but you know, you went out and broke your own knee on a jump just so that you didn't have to go to Iraq. So, and and I just I I just made a really stupid decision and and then didn't know how to, you know, I was like, "Okay, so do I go in and say I made a stupid mistake and you know, but I mean X-rays and everything will show that, you know, that I I didn't hurt him. You know, I tried to take care of him and I wouldn't hurt a fly. You know, I would never kill someone. I I was so devastated. I just didn't [clears throat] I just didn't didn't quite know. It was like I wasn't in my right mind. His did something unnatural and I mean, it was like that. Honestly, it was like that. Um, and I screamed and and I, you know, I mean, like you would normally, you know, I took his face and, you know, I was like, "Honey, honey, honey, and he was just gone." And it happened like that. I've never seen anything in all my years of medicine. I'd never seen anything like that. You know, there was always some I've seen heart attacks. I've seen strokes. I've seen I've never seen anything like that. >> Marci had pretty much covered all the angles of the story except there was one question that she had yet to answer. Why authorities found Richard's body in a storage unit. >> And how long did you keep him in the camp for the the RV that night? just like 24 hours till I figured out how to how to move him. He's been in that storage unit ever since. >> Who helped you get him over there? >> I did it by myself. Wasn't easy. I literally It was like early in the morning and I kind of wiggle the box, wiggle box, wiggle the box from there over to the store. [sighs] I did it all by myself. I don't believe it. I would take polygraph for you on on everything that's sacred to me. I I literally deliver literally took and kind of got it down, you know, got the box down the steps and like I don't know how to demonstrate. Um, you know, if you're just kind of scooching above up, you know, something heavy, you know, in a box a little bit at a time, that's literally how I did it. I just used my foot and my arms and just kind of took it and and took it across a little bit at a time. >> Following this confession, Marci was initially charged with concealment of a death. However, as forensic testing [music] progressed, toxicology results revealed Richard's cause of death to be poisoning. Investigators found a compound known as tetrahydroylene inside Richard's [music] body, a chemical commonly found in eye drops. Richard had unknowingly been ingesting the chemical [music] for months as Marci quietly laced his meals with the substance. What Marci didn't know was that the deputies were fully aware of her horrible deeds. So, she continued with her madeup stories. So when Rick got CO, did he get diagnosed with CO or did he just refuse to go to the doctor at all? He was just >> He just refused to go to the doctor. We did a home test. Well, what started the whole thing is he had a serious sweet tooth. And I was sitting in the bedroom painting and he came in and we were talking about, you know, the painting I was doing and I would keep this little thing of Heath bars, little miniature bars on my desk. And he grabbed one and he was like, "When did they start making mint flavored Heath bars?" They didn't. You know, I'm like, "What are you talking about?" He said, "No, they're mint flavored. Try one." So I tried it. It wasn't mint flavored. I said, "No." So then he's like, "Okay." Well, he said, "They're good that way." Didn't think anything of it. Well, then he came in and said his coffee tasted like mint. And he said, "And everything's got a little metallic wang to it." And I said, "Oh." I said, "That's the kind of stuff that happened when I had CO." And I said, "Maybe we better, you know, better test you." And we did. And it came up positive. And um, you know, I called a friend of mine who's a doctor and I said, you know, so what's the recommended thing now? >> Did he give you some medicine to to give Rick? >> No, cuz at the time he wasn't I mean, at that point in time, it was just like he had, you know, a little off taste and a little runny nose and he felt perfectly fine. and he said, "No." Um, you know, he said, "No, just let him write it out." He said, "There's really nothing, nothing that, you know, that we recommend." He said, "As long as he's not burning up with fever or, you know, any of those things." He said if he gets a fever give him Tylenol you know but if it becomes significant if it becomes respiratory then that's when you need to get him you know whether he wants to go or not you need to get him into the doctor. It never did it never I mean like had a little cough for a couple days but his all stayed in his throat sinuses and ears. Um, so he, you know, when I would sit there and be like, you know, are you coughing? You know, are you feeling anything in your chest? He'd be like, no, it's just this damn stuff in my ears and being dizzy all the time. He said, that's, you know, and he said, and that just needs to pass. He's like, I'm I'm not, you know, dying of coughing or, you know, I don't need a vent or any of that stuff. So that's why he just didn't want to. >> He hated being in the hospital. He been >> So it wasn't like super serious. >> More of a head cold. >> Well, he was dizzy all the time. I mean Oh, no. The the throwing up was very serious, >> right? But the and that's when I kept telling him you need to, you know, but as long as he coulda, you know, at least once a day keep down a milkshake and, you know, things like that. >> You had said he was on a lot of medications. So, what medications was he on? just I mean just like Tylenol and um the um we got him some anti-nausea stuff and the um you know like some dyen hydramine for the spinning you know um nothing nothing major you know just trying to alleviate the dizziness and over the counter stuff or was it? >> Yeah. >> In February 2023, [music] prosecutors upgraded the case, charging Marci with firstdegree attempted and aggravated battery. On October the 27th, 2025, she was sentenced to 50 years in prison, [music] but she was required to serve under Illinois
