No, please don't. >> Hey, show me YOUR HANDS. >> NO, THIS IS SOMETHING ELSE. >> HI EVERYONE, DONUT HERE. Today we're looking at one of those calls where the more information the officers get, the worse everything becomes. An 18-year-old girl is trapped upstairs in her own house with a man who had already been charged with trying to kill her before. She had a restraining order keeping him away from her and according to her mother was strangling her again and threatening to kill her. And the attempted murder case, well, it involved the same girl. So yep, it's going to get real. Before we get into breaking down that nightmare, a word from our sponsor. Listen here, I know Christmas is coming up and Black Friday is right around the corner. August 10th, 2026, Longmont, Colorado, 2:30 p.m. The two people involved in this situation, the victim and the suspect, have a pretty big history. Back in February of 2025, the same victim went to hospital after reporting that this man had strangled her over and over again during an assault lasting about an hour. When I say over and over, prosecutors say approximately 15 times. She reported being strangled with one hand, two hands, and a choke hold while he stopped her from escaping, and she lost consciousness at least twice. Medical staff documented injuries serious enough to indicate a substantial risk of death. He was originally charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, false imprisonment involving a minor, third-degree assault, and second-degree attempted murder, all connected to domestic violence with the same girl. So, why is he walking around in the street holding her hostage in this video? That is because prosecutors asked the court for a $100,000 bond because of the seriousness of the case, but the court instead gave him a $20,000 personal recognizance bond. Yep, 20 grand, he signed himself out of jail. He was released with the conditions including that he just stay away from the victim and possess no weapons. I know he's going to follow that, right? Well, take a wild [ __ ] guess what happened next. That's right, he contacts her again, prosecutors learn of this, he gets arrested again, and they ask for a $100,000 bond again. And the court instead sets it at $20,000 cash, again. So, he bonds out again. Two months later, police are inside the girl's house watching him hold her around the neck while telling them he has a gun. This starts a probably one of the worst 911 calls a mother can make. She's away from the house at the time and tells dispatch that her 18-year-old daughter is inside with a man who currently has an attempted murder case against her. >> Can you please have someone run to the go to the house right now? Someone with the the guy that tried to kill my my daughter. He has a murder charge, a current murder charge at him. He is in my house. I am in Breckenridge. My daughter is 18 years old. She is in the house by herself. He's threatening to kill her right now. I have He's called me and her phone is behind her back. He tried to strangle her. It is really bad. I don't know if he has weapons, but please I you have the right to go in. Can you please hurry? >> Okay, and you're not there, correct? >> I'm not there. >> We're not talking about some argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend where the cops are showing up to calm everyone down. You know, a simple [music] little CDV. According to the mother in this case, this guy has already strangled her daughter and is threatening to kill her right now. And then one of the strangest details I've probably ever heard slipped into the 911 call. >> I'm not there. She's 18, go in. There's dogs, the dog is nice. The dog is used to cops coming >> No, don't worry about the dog. He's friendly. Yeah, Betty is. There's a man upstairs strangling your daughter and the dog apparently hasn't even clocked in for work. At this point you basically have a cat. Somehow the dog situation gets even weirder. >> had cops at my house probably 400 times and the dog loves police to be out. We get here but is there a dog in the house? There's a dog in the house, the cops are coming and all behind that and he loves He loves the cops. He loves the core team. He loves everybody. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry, what? Your dog is that accustomed to police officers walking into the house? And I understand why she's explaining this because the last thing anyone needs is the family dog running at an officer during a hostage situation. But if police have been to your house you know where close to 400 times there may be some other things we need to unpack after everybody survives today. The mother gives dispatch another piece of information officers absolutely need to know before walking through the door. >> He just said she said he's escalating and getting louder and louder and louder. >> Okay, does he normally carry a weapon with him? Do you know? >> I don't know if he normally carries a weapon with him. I've seen him with a Like I've seen pictures with a weapon but I don't know if he has a weapon. >> See, what is he >> And I don't I don't I what I what I've seen pictures with him with a gun. >> Apparently this guy also likes taking pictures with guns because of course he does. I guess that means he might have a gun. So now officers responding to this call having alleged attempted murderer, a restraining order, reports that he's actively strangling the same victim again, threats to kill her, and information that he may have access to firearms. I'd say that's a priority call. When officers arrive the mother is able to remotely unlock and open the front door. >> Top poppers. >> While officers are waiting the mother starts talking to them through the home's doorbell camera. >> She wants to know if she can verbally advise him. Yes, ma'am, you can. Your door is already propped open. Absolutely, we can. >> All right, go in. Go in the back. He's got a pillow. >> Okay. You ready? He's already tried to kill her. Let's go. You ready? Okay, do you know where they are in the house, ma'am? >> Probably upstairs. >> Copy. >> What's his kid's name? >> Yeah, what's his kid's name? Darius, this is THE LAWNDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT. YOU NEED TO COME DOWN TO THE FRONT DOOR WITH YOUR HANDS OPEN AND EMPTY. You need TO DO IT NOW. IF YOU DO NOT, WE WILL BE ENTERING THE HOUSE. I CAN hear you upstairs. COME TO THE FRONT DOOR. DO IT NOW. >> IS THERE ONLY ONE DOOR TO THE BACK? >> YES. >> Which we can see. >> Darius, THIS IS THE LAWNDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT. IF YOU DON'T COME DOWN TO THE DOOR, we are going TO COME IN AND GET YOU. YOU NEED TO DO IT NOW WITH YOUR HANDS open and empty. >> The first officer stays near the doorway and starts calling upstairs, telling anyone inside to come down. This is where the situation becomes even worse. The mother had apparently been listening to what was happening upstairs through her daughter's phone, but that call had disconnected. So, now nobody outside of the house knows what has happened the last few minutes. For all they know, the girl could be seriously injured or dead. So, the mother gives officers permission to enter and tells them this guy is going to kill her daughter. So, the officers head inside. >> You ready? I can hear her. You ready? Okay, let's go. Hey, SHOW ME YOUR HANDS. AND WHAT THE OFFICERS SEE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. The man has his arm wrapped around the girl's neck while his other hand is pointed towards her body and hidden behind that large handbag all while telling officers he has a gun. So naturally officers start telling him to DROP THE GUN. >> HEY, LET LET HER GO. Let her go. LET HER GO. HE SAID HE HAS A GUN. HE SAYS HE DOESN'T HAVE A GUN. >> NOW THE GIRL IS TELLING POLICE that he doesn't have one and that he just wants the officers to kill him. That puts the officers in an absolutely horrible position. The girl may genuinely believe he doesn't have a weapon, but the officers cannot stake her life on that. They know this guy has already been accused of strangling this girl almost to death. They know there's a protection order against him. Her mother just reported that he strangled her again and threatened to kill her and now he's physically holding her around the neck and repeatedly telling armed police officers that he has a gun. You have to assume that hidden hand could contain exactly what he's telling everyone it contains. But now one of the other officers who had been standing behind the first moves TOWARDS THE BEDROOM. >> WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HAND? DROP IT. Drop it now OR I'M GOING TO SHOOT YOU. >> He asked this crazy person what's in his hand and once again the guy says he has a gun. The officer warns him to drop it or he's going TO BE SHOT. >> [screaming] >> THE SUSPECT DOESN'T LET GO OF THE GIRL, doesn't show his hand and doesn't drop whatever he's claiming as a gun. So the officer opens fire. Now let's see that shooting from the officer's body cam. >> What do you have in your hand? Drop it. DROP IT NOW OR I'M GOING TO SHOOT YOU. DROP IT NOW OR I'M GOING TO SHOOT YOU. >> HEY, DROP THE GUN. >> [screaming] >> DROP IT NOW. DROP IT NOW. DROP IT NOW. DROP IT NOW. >> ONE SHOT IS FIRED AND MOST importantly the girl is immediately able to get away. Officers of course call for medical support and begin rendering aid to the man. He is transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. So, nice shot. And here's the part that's obviously going to get a lot of attention. Police say that no gun was recovered from the room. Doesn't really matter at this point though given the totality of the circumstances in front of the officers they made the right decision shooting this man to death. Holding a girl hostage who he already had a restraining order against, who he already tried to kill, saying he has a gun, you're going to get [ __ ] shot. The officer was placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure while the Boulder County Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting.
