on youtube and facebook and we do news here we talk about the police we talk about the good and the bad and the ugly sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad and sometimes it's ugly but we don't we don't shade the truth here and we don't sugarcoat anything um when when cops do wrong we shine a light on it and when cops do good we shine a light on it actually what what we do is we just shine light in the darkness that's all we're doing is we're laser focus laser focusing our light in the darkness we don't use the shotgun approach at defunding the police we talk about the problems in the police department we want to eradicate the problems in the police department we don't want to eradicate the police department let's not be stupid as bill maher said it's not that we don't get your idea about defunding and abolishing the police we get it it's just a dumb idea but what we do here is we encourage people to support good cops in an effort to root out bad cops now sometimes we have dash cam videos of bad cops sometimes we have dash cam videos of good cops and sometimes we have dashcam videos where there's both good cops and bad cops and we kind of help you identify what what you might not ordinarily see unless you've been through a police academy and know what to look for not that i'm you know this super knowledgeable person but i have been a police officer and i've been a defense lawyer for a very long time and uh you know i watch gosh i don't know thousands of videos over my career and so this one is out of burbank california this is a sad uh well they're all sad um i haven't seen a police shooting yet that didn't um didn't bother me but um this one involves a man and his son actually it's his stepson he's not the biological father of this boy he's the stepfather and there was a 911 call i'm not going to play the whole tape or the whole video because it's it's basically a debriefing video from the police department about what happened but the the clerk at the quality inn called the police and said hey i got this nine-year-old kid out here in the parking lot um in shorts and barefoot hugging his pillow and he's been out here for about half an hour or so and you know there are no parents around and he thought the parents were in a room getting high and what really happened was the father wrecked a car on the interstate and the car was stolen out of las vegas and there in burbank california wrecked the stolen car apparently the boy lost a shoe in the wreck because he's not completely barefoot he's only got a shoe on one foot you'll see in a minute and just the disregard that this guy has for this boy um troubled me and yeah it's always sad when a child loses a parent even a step parent um you know because he could have been you know significantly attached to that step parent i don't know that the boy really um you can hear when the shooting happens he's he's screaming no no no um and so he was obviously loved this man as his as his stepdad no matter how bad the stepdad was because the stepdad was clearly a serial car thief and he was quite good at stealing cars honestly so in this um body cam you're going to see surveillance video of the of the child you're going to see traffic cams that track their movement um this let me just play this part here and i'm going to mute it this part is the um the father is walking in front and the son is walking in in the back the son is clearly kind of you know struggling to keep up dad does wait for him to cross the road actually he didn't he waited for him so he could carry what he had the son carrying this bag and his pillow and so dad took the bag from him and they crossed the road um but you see here dad is like i don't know nearly 100 feet in front of this boy not looking back it's just you know that's just pitiful parent parenting you know you don't i'm sorry that you just don't walk that far ahead of your child if you're especially when you've just been in a wreck but some people live different lives and some people don't have great parents and so the child's coming he's not right here in this view but he is walking and he's just a little farther behind so dad's here trying to find another car to steal and he's got to shave one of these shaved down keys that he's attempting to steal this car well here comes son one foot uh bear and the other foot shoot and it's four o'clock in the morning so um dad i'll skip ahead dad looks for a car to steal this is the uh clerk calling the police and this is dad telling his son wait right here i'll be right back so dad leaves and walks across the street and attempts to get into this vehicle um with no success and so then he walks farther so this is where the sun is up here at the quality inn and dad walks gosh man two or three blocks away pretty good distance and keeps walking and backtracking a little bit and this is where he steals a car and then he drives back to the quality end and that's where i'm gonna unmute it and north of buena vista street returning to the quality inn it was there that the suspect encountered police officers speaking with the child what are you doing here where's your dad that's it please note the beginning portion of this video has no audio as the suspect returned to the quality inn hotel driving a stolen car he encountered police officers with his child upon seeing his stepfather the child began to walk towards the car as the suspect called out to him out of concern for the child's safety one of the police officers attempts to prevent the child from getting into the car with the suspect at that point the suspect displayed a loaded nine millimeter handgun showing it in his right hand and pointed the gun at the officers now this is this is police work okay some people will criticize the police for getting involved at all and think that they should have just let this child go get in the car with dad and and i disagree with that this boy's been left by himself for you know a good long time long enough for this man to walk i don't know three or four blocks then backtrack and um steal a car long enough for the police to be dispatched and come and talk to the to the boy so dad's been gone a long time and this that needed to be investigated the cops needed to um question dad about where he'd been and why he left this boy by himself so when they go up to the car clearly [Music] this father didn't want them to investigate further because he's in a stolen car that he just stole had he not pointed a gun at the police and just said i mean just talk to them they may have investigated it and let him go or they may really would have realized that the cars they probably would have realized the car was stolen and he would have been arrested but he didn't want any of that to happen so he immediately pulls a gun on these on these officers and that's where we pick up here one of the officers pointed his duty weapon at the suspect and fired three times the following body body-worn camera video captures the moment the suspect points the gun at the officers and the officer fires his weapons [Applause] wow get the kid out of here so he's alive right now um and he's raising his you can see him raising his right hand put your hands out the window but he's clearly very seriously wounded here is a slowed down version of the same video showing the gun in the suspect's right hand pointed at officers yep enough that's a handgun right there right there and he did point it right at him here is additional video of the officer involved shooting from the second officer's body worn camera this officer did not fire her weapons [Music] hey the officer involved shooting was also captured by hotel video surveillance from this angle video surveillance captures the suspect entering the hotel parking lot in the stolen honda the suspect then parks the vehicle video surveillance captures the suspect exiting the vehicle momentarily and looking around for the child then he sees the police the suspect returns to the vehicle and he doesn't want to begin he doesn't want to interact with him clearly the child is also seen approaching the vehicle being followed by a second officer it is at this point the officer involved shooting occurs immediately following the officer-involved shooting additional patrol units responded to the hotel as well as paramedics from the burbank fire department here is a slowed down and zoomed in version of the same video which shows the suspect seated in the driver's seat holding a gun in his right hand and pointing it at officers the suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a local trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased the child was unharmed and taken into protective custody so he this was the weapon he was carrying he was carrying a springfield hellcat nine millimeter that's that that was the gun that this suspect had and he uh died at the hospital so um obviously i mean what we do here on this channel is we bring these videos and we give commentary and we ask your opinion justified or homicide so i'm curious what you think do you think this was a justified shooting i personally think it was a justified shooting and you you know again he pointed the firearm directly at the police officer even through the windshield you can obviously be killed through a windshield because this police officer shot him through the windshield so you you don't wait for the suspect to shoot the gun if they point it at you that's plenty they that that is um that's deadly force and it should be met with deadly force so uh i'm grateful that the boy wasn't hurt in this in this video and he did kind of grab his arm like you know maybe glass hit him fragments hit him as he was getting in the car because it was close i mean the boy was directly in harm's way thank god he wasn't in the line of fire but this dad this stepdad i should say i don't know how long he had been stepdad but uh clearly this this man didn't have any fatherly love for this boy i've got five boys i'm i'm walking away from a wrecked car with my nine-year-old i'm i'm not walking a hundred feet in front of him you know just little things like that um here let me know that this guy's just he just didn't have any regard for this boy he was just in his way so i'm not saying that he got what he deserved i mean he got what he deserved for pointing the gun at the police officer that's not i'm not saying because he's a bad dad you shouldn't you shouldn't feel bad for him for being killed certainly i feel bad for this boy i feel i feel bad for the man that got killed in his family um and we don't want to see anybody get killed by the police but it's um you know this was a white gentleman so obviously it doesn't enrage anybody that he was killed it's not part of the narrative but it is important to see these videos they come out regularly man this one was just uh not very long it was in march and there's so many that come out we can't do commentary on all of them but we try so if you like this video give it a thumbs up and share it with somebody and be sure to go to
