um april the 19th of this year mario gonzalez dies while in police custody in what is very strikingly similar to the george floyd incident i can't believe it i can't i mean i know things happen to people when they're put under stress and sometimes you know your heart can stop or i mean you can have a stroke or something like this this guy doesn't look like he's in great health anyway [Music] but why are you even putting him on the ground i'm just that's why we founded this organization stand against dark blue we want to um we want to change the training in law enforcement in america you have to be we we have to reform policing i don't mean that there's cis systemic racism like some people believe i don't believe that i don't believe that there's really a systemic problem i believe there's a training problem and i believe police have have a lot of power and it gets abused watch this video and and just tell me what you think i'm interested i mean i want i want you to comment below and literally tell me if you agree or disagree with how they handled this situation hey bud how's it going hi just coming to check on you make sure you're okay somebody called and said you were maybe not feeling so great okay so somebody called the police and said hey we've got this strange man in our park he's clearly homeless so let's just watch the video i think i've been staying here for longer really i don't think we've met before okay here's the plan okay i gotta identify you here we go here's the plan you gotta identify him why tell him to move along why do you have to identify who he is that's that's number one i mean yeah sure police want to identify people but you're not required to give your identity to the police speaking as a defense attorney and a former police officer you're not required to give your identity to the police unless you're suspected of a crime this man is not suspected of any crime why are we escalating this to the to the point of putting him in which you're about to see detaining him and putting him in handcuffs he's clearly got a mental health issue there's no question about that um he's just watch the video sorry two make sure you don't have any warrants or anything like that okay you come up with a plan let me know that you're not going to be drinking in our parks over here oh yeah because that's a terrible thing to do don't be drinking in the park over here yeah and then we can be on our merry way okay do you have you have an id on you go yeah like that do you have an id on you okay so he says merry way merry go around clearly this man is not firing on all cylinders he's not a threat to you or anybody else he's a homeless man who may have had some some something to drink that day i don't know i mean it's not reported that he was impaired or intoxicated he he looks a little touched if you can't do that then i'm going to have to take you okay but just keep your hands out of your pocket [Music] was it mario hey mario walk with birthday okay so for those of you die hard uh blue can do no bad cops all cops are good if you think he's resisting arrest here you're absolutely wrong the man is fighting to breathe he is struggling to get air and oxygen into his body he's not resisting arrest i've been to police i've been to two police academies and i know they teach you when you're fighting with somebody say stop resisting stop kicking stop this stop that so people around will think okay this guy's resisting or i mean if somebody is truly resisting certainly you say that this man's not fighting you because you're arresting him he's fighting you because he can't stink and breathe that's not even hey mario just talk to me okay yeah what's your birthday martial i forgive you sorry again 1984 what what month is he's trying his best to answer the questions what a shame all right i think i think you just had too much to drink today that's all okay yeah that's the only problem mario calm down please stop kicking mario he's serious criminal here boys he's he's a homeless person in a park [Music] let's not lose what we've got no weight on his chest no no no no no wait no wait no way oh wait a minute off of him now you can't give cpr with handcuffs on boys he doesn't have a pulse [Music] you just pop up right here mario wake up what do you do how do we change this how do we teach police officers in this country to treat people like humans how do we teach police officers the importance of if you're going to detain somebody let's first have reasonable suspicion of a crime if you're going to put them on the ground and you're going to use that kind of force to get them handcuffed let's let's have a reason for that i'm sorry it breaks my heart to see videos like this and there won't be probably a fraction of the coverage of the george floyd thing because this guy's not black and i'm not saying i'm not calling for um i'm not saying that there's systemic racism i'm saying that that police have a power problem and everything is not worthy of putting somebody in handcuffs and driving them to the ground but if you're going to do that when you get them handcuffed let them up they're not going to hurt you this man clearly was not a threat to anybody on the scene there he wasn't a threat to anybody i don't even know why somebody called the police on him except for he's a homeless guy near my home and i don't
