So, the police have threatened to take you downtown. Here's what that really means. Downtown in police lingo just means at the station. They want to take you to the station where they have lots of recording equipment. They're going to put you in a room. Don't ever fall for that. Don't ever agree to go downtown with a police officer unless he has placed you under arrest. And if he's placed you under arrest, the only thing you ever say to a police officer is, "I don't answer questions without a lawyer." The police are not your friend. The police are investigating something that you know nothing about and any conversation you have with them can be used against you. So always make sure that you invoke your right to remain silent early and often.
