33 on December 20th 2023 a Florida Fish
and Wildlife officer was on patrol when
he observed a truck and trailer that
belonged to a known commercial fisherman
at an infrequently used boat ramp from a
concealed location officer georgevich
observed a vehicle that appeared to be
on Lookout Drive Through The Boat Ramp
once the netting vessel arrived the
officer conducted a resource inspection
and located a large monofilament Gil net
on board the vessel

know where I was at I went fishing we're

area right now I know they're bald up
pretty good right here uh were you all

honestly don't know the area like that
I'm from Spring gotcha so when you came
you launched that what time did you guys
launch
here H not sure okay where did yall just
come from like did you come under that
little bridge over
there I I was facing like backwards with
my head down cuz we were getting
splashed so bad gotcha so when you came
in you know how long did it take you to
get back to the ramp 5 minutes 10
minutes no we were riding for a while
probably 20 25 minutes probably longer
longer than 20 like 30 minutes 45
minutes for at least like 45 minutes at
least okay and it ran um so Direction um
you have a map on there
sir can we pull up a map on there not
good with Direction so there's an
airport over there did you see planes
landing whole night no you see the
blinking Runway lights over
there so that's where we're at right
now that right there below is the
bridge so the airport's like right over
there would you say that's about where
you were I don't think so I think we
went like way out
that looks pretty close oh right uh zoom
in right about there at the 275 the big
bridge I really Hest yeah I'm I'm just
trying to you know we got a general idea
of a map so we're trying to kind of
figure out U just I'm curious where
those lady fish are at I like use the I
use the GPS to go everywhere man don't
really know my sense of direction at all

honestly don't know I mean you would
know if you went under the Skyway so you
were right here in the bay you can't
miss that I mean like I said man I keep
my head down a lot yeah but I mean you
would know you can't miss that bridge
it's the biggest bridge in the whole
state right so like probably just north
of the Skyway like right in that area
right I'm not honestly not sure man
you're not sure not sure okay not good
with Direction you're not good with

the Gil net was not properly stored had
no SPL markings on it and was full of
ladyfish and other species based on the
interviews and species in the net the
officers determined that the subject had
deployed the net in state waters
officers removed nearly 1,000 lbs of
ladyfish as well as multiple other
saltwater species in the net the net was
over 500 yard in length and was seized
all subjects were arrested and
transported to the penel county jail the
subjects were charged with a total of
six felonies and 51 misdemeanors on May
28th 2024 the captain pled guilty and
was sentenced to one day in jail with
credit for time served and 24 months of
state probation the other cases are
