26, 2024, a Florida nurse was arrested at a Florida airport for carrying a concealed firearm inside the passenger terminal. >> I >> I'm Officer Vasquez with the airport police. You know why I'm talking to you? >> Yeah. >> What's going on? >> Oh, what do you mean what's going on? It was an accident. I was dropping my son on my company my minor. I'm on the phone with my husband. >> Uh-huh. >> Taking him and when I got his bag, I'm like, "Oh, [ __ ] I have my bag." So, the gentleman there, I said, "Can I run back to my car?" He said, "They're not going to let you come back." Over here. I said, "I have a weapon on me." I specifically told him that I had a weapon on me. >> Um TSA jacket, badge, older man, bald head, gray >> TSA you had a gun and you left it there in front of him? >> It wasn't like right before you go to the precheck when you come your way around. Older gentleman, he got a airport badge on everything. He said, "Put it in the chair right there. I'll tell my coworker that you'll be coming back to get it on your way out." >> A gun? You told him there was a gun in there? >> Yes, sir. Me and my son. My son's on spear right now. >> That doesn't make any sense. >> Okay, come on. Let's Let's go. Hold on. Dustin, I'll call you right back. >> have ID, ma'am? >> Yes, I do. >> Can I see it, please? >> Absolutely. Hold on. >> Your son got on the plane? >> He did. Here. That's his ticket. >> That's I don't need that right now. >> Yeah. Yes, I did. I said >> 150 copy of Florida DL by number and can I get a CH? >> Specifically. Yeah. I know I I I I don't even know what to say. >> Yeah. >> Oh, there's his flight. >> Hold on. Just give me a second. >> Hey, real quick. Before you go to HPT. >> Yeah, it's it's that. That, but she swears that she told somebody that she had it and she was going to leave it there and come back. Yeah. That's what I said. I said, "No way." But >> Can you call my son? >> I know. I know. You I You Do you want me to I could do a notice to appear or I can do the whole thing. >> It is a crime. >> Okay. >> You cannot introduce a firearm over here and what you did is frankly reckless. >> Okay. >> To me. >> But >> Absolutely reckless. >> What I'm going to do is I'm going to give you a ticket, a notice to appear for the misdemeanor of introducing a firearm >> Okay. >> into the terminal. >> Okay. >> All right. So, you have to come with me and we got some paperwork to do, all right? >> Okay. >> Can I see your Have you ever been arrested for a felony, ma'am? >> No, I've never been arrested. I said that I'm a nurse, so I can't lose my license by force. >> I got you. >> Yeah, we can call my son who's on the flight. He was there. The man said, "Leave the bag. My co-worker will be here. I'll be here when you get back out." >> Even so, it's just All right, come on. We'll go this way. >> You know, it sounds crazy, right? It does sound insane. But, I feel like I feel like so far from what we're getting, just based off the information, it's an honest mistake. Now, I I also think that you could run into somebody that'll be like, yeah, oh, all right. Put it right here. When you come out, all right, we going let this one rock, you know? Because it's she she was up front about it. She was You it was clear. Like, it was like, you know, they're not going to let you come back in, da da da. And man, I know it sounds insane. That does sound insane. And I know for the officer, he's like, wait, you TSA told you somebody from what? Uh nah. But, I feel like it could happen. It could. It could happen. Like, for real for real. I I I don't see this woman as like a you know, a I don't get like a liar from this. From this interaction, I don't get you're a liar. Like, I don't under- you know, I don't get that. Um but, I I hope that they try to track down this person that she did talk to. Even though she's still wrong regardless. Regardless of the fact, you're still wrong. But, at least that would be like, "Wait, hold on. You told her Now, this person probably going to get in trouble cuz he put his neck out there for you." Got Everybody got jammed up, but damn, man. I don't I don't think she's lying, though. I really don't get that feeling. >> Yeah, but I told the gentleman before we even went through TSA what it was, and he said, "You're not going to have time to make it back." So, sitting in the chair, I'll let you know I'll be here, my coworker be here. So, at the end of the day, I got a lawyer. I got witnesses, several. >> Uh come on now. Come on. I'm rocking with you, ma'am. I'm rocking with you. But, you I I don't think you got several witnesses. You have one witness because I don't think the TSA person is going to really put his neck out there like that. Um but, they could go back in the footage. That whole place is camera'd up. And they could verify. It's very simple to verify what what she's saying. But, and find the person who was there. But, do I think they're going to do all of that? No, but they could, though. But, as far as all these witnesses that you have, no. You only have one witness, which is your son. And he's going to side with you regardless because you're his mom. So, that's not really an independent witness to me, you know, somebody that has nothing to gain from either side, you know. >> And uh unfortunately at this time, I'm going to have to take you to bookings because of those situations. So, I just need you to turn around and put your hands behind your back. Do you have anything else on you that's going to prick me, poke me, stab me, hurt >> No, my keys. >> Okay. Just put your hands behind your back. >> Where are you leaving the firearm for? >> No, it's so like I told the officer, I talked to the gentleman in front of the TSA before I got there because I forgot I had the gun. Okay. He said you could leave it in my chair. I'll be here till you get back. And I took my son who was an unaccompanied minor to Atlanta, to the plane, and came back and that's when they called me on the courtesy. So, I said to him, "Can I take it back to >> TSA acknowledged >> I said to him, I said to him, "Sir, I have my back I went to him me and my son and two other people were there and I said, "I have my weapon on me. I just realized it. Can I make it back to my car?" He said, "They're you're she's not going to make this flight if you go back to your car." And so and told me to leave it right there. I'll be right here. It's a older gentleman, gray hair, black jacket. It's on camera and then my son is a witness once he lands in Atlanta. So. >> Uh she's on it. She's good? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I wish they would do more due diligence and go find this person. Like we got a lot a lot more video. Hopefully they do. But, I hope they go back and and and you know, to verify this story, man. You know, because if somebody stole out of a gift shop, guess what they're going to do? They're going to call our phone and they're going to be like, "Hey, I need you to check these cameras to find out where such and such went." Now, someone brings a firearm in and granted, she's wrong, she knows she's wrong, she tried to go back out to the car, TSA said, "Yo, I'm all right." You know, he said that. Now, are you going to make that call to verify, you know, oh hey, who is this person that she talked to? Nope, I bet you nobody going to do that. That's the part that I don't I'm not man, this is [ __ ] up. >> I mean >> Yeah, so Dude, try to help >> Yeah, here, I'll help you. Can you get it out? >> Okay, there you go. >> Steph, you mind just uh getting the buckle on the other side? >> There you go. >> The buckle? Yeah, I appreciate it. >> Okay, where am I going? To the jail? >> Sorry, Orient Road Jail. >> I'm going to Orient Road? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Yeah, unfortunately, I couldn't give you the ticket thing, that's not going to work. >> Okay. If we find the oh >> Thing happened happened, it's still on you for >> Absolutely. >> leaving the You know what I'm saying? >> Oh, yeah. >> Unfortunately. >> That is definitely >> I got you. And listen, everyone makes mistakes, but unfortunately, this stake mistake is you know, going to be in the back of a cop car today, but it is what it You're not the first person to What happened? >> I said you're nice and >> I try I honestly, ma'am, I try not to get people a hard time who don't give me a hard time. That's usually my MO. >> Yeah. >> So, you're not giving me a hard time, so I don't see any reason to give you one. We'll try to get you through this as quick as possible. >> I wanted to be a cop once, but you guys have to run. I can't run. Yeah, you know I said, "Let me go Let me go the other route and do medical instead. >> [laughter] >> All you got to do is get through the academy. You know, and then you can get as big as you want. >> Let's do a health care, but I did take the the fire the fireman's exam in Jersey and passed it. And right before the psych eval, I broke my ankle. So, I had to withdraw found everything and Yeah. So, I did it I did it and I passed, but It's a tough job and then I realized they also run, too. So, And you said this is a misdemeanor? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Violation concealed carry weapons. It's actually >> Okay. >> Even just even just >> Right. Yeah. I don't know how to how they work because I'm not a criminal, so I'm just I'm just trying to put it in relation to my to to nursing. So, it's a misdemeanor and not a felony or is it I couldn't hear him. Sorry. >> It's not a felony. >> Okay. Okay. All right. So, that means I still have a job. Okay, good. Thank you, Vasquez. >> I don't know. >> I know. I know. I know. Yeah, I heard that. Thank you. Close. >> [laughter] >> I'm like, holy [ __ ] Is this a women's and men's jail? Oh, so what I was saying I said this is a male and female prison? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> It's a county jail. >> I was like, am I going anywhere, guys? It's There's like a big waiting lobby, but they keep the females by themselves. >> Okay. >> You're not You're not going to be locked in with any females. >> Okay. I've only seen jail on TV, so >> No, this is not This is the >> This analysis examines the legal framework governing firearms in airports under Florida and federal law.
