On today's body cam, we're checking out golf ball hits a child. Grandma reaction ends in arrest. >> At a restaurant in Boca Raton, a disagreement breaks out after a golf ball accidentally hits a child. But as the families argue, a 69-year-old woman suddenly makes an unexpected move and everything quickly escalates. >> We were sitting and eating and out of nowhere, a ball comes flying, hits my daughter in the head, and then hits the glass. So we're like, where did this ball just come from? And I see two kids over there playing. So I get up and I'm like, where's your parents? And the dad stands up. I'm the parent. And I was like, they just hit her in the head with the ball. The mom, I think, got worried cuz she was hurt. So then she walked around the table and tried to put her hand on my daughter like, "Oh, he didn't mean it." And I said, "I know he didn't mean it, but she's hurt." And that's when grandma got up and just started screaming, "We don't need to call the police." And we're like, "Nobody said we're calling the police." And then that was it. That's when it escalated. >> Okay. >> Just screaming. And she grabs the phone and slams the phone. >> Yeah. Okay. >> And then uh that's when I started screaming, "Get away from me." SHE WANTED TO attack me. So I I just I didn't I'm not going to touch you, but you're not going to touch me. >> Moments later, officers locate the suspect at her home. >> Hello. >> Hi, Nancy. Hi. >> How are you? >> Well, I'll talk to Jeff after, but do you mind if we just we'll just talk right here? Sure. >> Okay. >> Um, >> all right. I just want to make sure you're Nancy Simmons, right? >> Simon. >> Simon. Apologize. >> Okay. >> Okay. Um, before we talk, I just have to read you this. Okay. >> Okay. >> I am required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent and not answer any question. Do you understand these rights as I read them to you? >> I do. >> Okay. So, I know there was a little argument earlier at Meisner Park. >> Yes, there was. >> Um, can you kind of tell me about that? What happened? We had a wonderful my daughter's 42nd birthday. >> We had a wonderful party. So after dinner, our grandsons, we have three grandsons. So they went and sat by the fountain after it was all over. And then they said, "Dad, can we go out by the fountain?" So, all of a sudden, this golf ball flew into the corner, flew into the window, popped back, and hit the girl on the head. >> Mhm. >> And we were like, "What? What was that?" You know, "What was that?" >> Yeah. >> And we were like, "Oh my god, what was that?" And the I don't know who he was, but he said to me, "You put $4,000 on the table and I'll forget all of this. He's the one with the gray mustache. And I'm like, I don't even know what happened here, you know? >> Yeah. >> We, you know, we got up and the grand of a woman went running out to the grandson's I mean, my son-in-law who is a big guy and a, you know, pretty hard father and he's like, >> "Get your butt over here. What happened here?" you know, he's like and the the boys were like, I we don't it just it bounced off the fountain and went into the window and and he's like, you know what? What what what what and so and then the guy says again, $4,000 on the table and you're out of here, you know, and I'm like, what are what are you talking about? And then our daughter went over and gave the woman her phone number and her name. Then things got a little ruckus. I mean, I got pissed off. I mean, it was. And the guy stood up and he's like, you know, you're just, you know, you need to control these kids and blah blah blah. And I got in his face. And I'm like, >> wow. But you didn't get in the kid's face. You got in his face, but you didn't get in the kid's face. You didn't reprimand the kids. the f I mean the father, you know, whatever. Kids are kids. They're going to do what they're going to do, right? It happens. They The kids were playing, threw the ball, it hit somebody. All right, we get it. Kids are kids, right? But this couple or whatever, this other party has the right to be upset. They have the right to be upset. Okay. And so her reply shouldn't be to want to argue with the man or whatever the case may be. It should be, "How can we come to a resolution here?" Okay? How can we come to a resolution here? Because clearly somebody is hurt. So then that's what it should be. Man, >> what are you talking about? You know what? You you get in my face, I'm going to get in your face. These are nice boys. These are nice boys. My son-in-law is like, "Get over it. We're leaving. We're going to take our food. We're going to go home and, you know, get over." So, they left. And so, I was walking to our car. And the granddaughter and the mother were like chasing my daughter's car with the phone >> and she's like, "You are a bad white woman. you are. And she was calling me all sorts of names and I was running after her and I said, "No, no, you need to stop and you need to come to me and you need to get my name and you need to talk to me." >> Mhm. >> That's what I said. I said, and she's like, "No, no, no, no, no." And I'm like, "I lost my temper." We went to our car. My husband's like, "Oh my gosh, what what did you do?" And I'm like, "I lost my cool." I mean I mean this woman is like chasing my daughter and her husband and our three little boys with a phone, you know, taking pictures and I'm like my daughter already gave this woman her name and number. >> Yeah, it was an accident. This little this little boy I mean it was like >> Right. We all understand that it's an accident. The kids, like I said, boys being boys, they're playing okay, but what does she do though? because I lost my cool. I lost my cool. Well, what does that mean? >> I don't know how it happened, but this golf ball, you know, and and and you could tell they were like horrified. They were like, "Oh my god, my dad's going to kill me." But the the grandfather who kept saying, "You give me 5,000 $4,000 on the table and then I'll let this all go." You know, and I'm like, "Whatever." >> And then they, you know, then they got all crazy. >> Gotcha. And then she called me, you know, which I maybe I am a crazy grandmother, but whatever. >> All right, just to clarify one little part of it. >> Where did you get the Was she like holding the phone or like where was that? >> She was like this at my daughter's car. >> Okay. >> Like this? Like this? Like taking pictures of my daughter's car? >> What the Okay. >> I did not throw it at her. I did not I didn't throw it. Okay. >> Anybody have any other questions? I'm sorry. I was a crazy grandmother for >> No, we got it. We got it all under control. We got it. So, it seems like to me she must have grabbed her phone or something and and and smashed her phone. So, yeah. I'm just going to talk to him inside real quick. Okay, >> all right. >> And she called me, you know, drunk and a crazy woman, you know. >> You do seem drunk. >> We had a bottle of wine, you know. >> But >> sounds like you were enjoying the night. You were celebrating, weren't you? >> I It was our daughter's 42nd birthday. >> Nancy, can I I'm going to give your phone real quick to to her in the glass. >> Hey, we all love wine, huh? >> Glasses or glasses. >> Okay, >> it's in my glasses. Do you need them to see? >> Yeah. Well, it depends on what I'm seeing. >> Okay. >> There's that. >> Do you have any like disabilities in your shoulders or anything like that? Prevent Okay. All right. >> I'm embarrassed. I took my bra off. I apologize. Um, >> I'm going to try to make this as comfortable as possible. >> You're arresting me? >> I'm going to explain in a second. Okay. You're going to see a judge in the morning and then >> I have to spend the night there >> until you see a judge and then he'll decide where it goes from. >> Yes, grandma. Yes, grandma. You got to see a judge. [laughter] Oh. Oh, yeah. And the thing is, you're getting arrested. It seems like you're getting arrested later in the day.
