On today's body cam, we're checking out bank fraud suspect caught cashing with the same fake check twice. >> On Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, [music] officers responded to a bank in Peoria after a bank teller reported a subject attempting to cash a fraudulent $900 check. What started as a routine [clears throat] call would quickly turn into a two-day, two-city fraud scheme. But first, the suspect had to get past [music] the front door. Now, watch what the bank teller said that led officers to apprehend the suspect in under 30 seconds. >> Oh, she tried to book it. She tried to pull a fast one. >> 10-18 on Edward Paul 90907 in the back of Hy-Vee parking lot. All right, come on. Step on out. Doors on the back. All right, come on. >> Wow. >> Hands out of your pockets. Huh? No. All right, we'll be in the car in a minute till I get this figured out, okay? Have a seat. You what? >> I got a dog. >> Huh? Hey, driver's license on Can you go get that check? >> What's that? >> Can you go in and get that check? They got it inside. >> They got it inside? >> Yeah. >> And she's out or she's gone or whatever. >> She's in here. >> Oh, she's right there. >> All right. >> Yeah, I pulled up. He took off. He drove off, came over here, she come walking briskly across the parking lot. Now, I >> Okay. >> zoomed over here real quick. Your driver's license is suspended. He's got There's two kids in the car. Go grab that check first. >> Okay. >> And then, we'll read her I'll read her rights and question her on the check. >> If she doesn't have any warrants. >> But, she doesn't have a a valid driver's license, though. >> She only got the check now, I can get her out, but and then her >> Well, he doesn't have his, so we'll just leave it at that for now. I'll just go grab the check and let him sort >> it out for a minute. >> All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand that these rights have been explained to you? Having these rights in mind, do you want to speak to me? So, what happened in there? What's going on with this check? >> First of all, I don't know to be honest. If you see my background, I don't have any >> So, where did you get the check from? >> His name is um Talon, cuz I'm not getting in trouble for all Yeah, his name is Talon. Um I don't know his last name, but he has connections with my with my boyfriend. >> So, he gave you a check to cash? Did he write you a check or what? He like wrote you the check and under somebody else's name or what? >> No, it it's under my name. >> Then, check's in your name, but who's the check from? Is it from him or did he get the check from somebody else? You don't know? He just wrote you the check? All right, we're going to get the check and look at it to see what's going on with it, cuz I think it's a fraudulent check. That's why you're being detained right now. So, why did you guys take off when I pulled up then? >> He told me to. >> Who did? >> The guy I was on the phone with earlier, but the >> Tire guy? >> Yeah. >> So, you're on the phone with him the whole time? So, you called him when you were inside and >> Yeah, I asked him what was going on. I came out here cuz I'm pregnant and I I came to just get some water in my phone. >> Right. >> Like that was >> And then, he told you guys to take off? So, how do you tell How did he take off then? >> You should question that one. >> Huh? >> You should question that one. >> That one guy right there? So, he's the one that had something to do it. They just put you up to doing it? >> Yes. >> Okay. Well, he has a warrant for his arrest anyway. So, I'm going to get him in a second. >> Yeah, but you the she's down playing it as if she plays a small part in this. Listen, a lot of times when these things go go on you're hard on you're hard on money and these guys that are scamming, they prey on the weak, right? You're pregnant, probably hard on some cash, whatever. Hey, you go in here, you go do this, we going to give you whatever. Maybe the check it was a $900 check, so they might throw her a $100, you know, something like that. So, that's what's going on. She knows something is up. I think she knows something that's up something is up. Because off the rip she's like, "Oh, I'm telling that I don't know that." Like and if you are going to tell you don't even do it like that. You talk you you don't talk to the road cop. That is not going to help your situation. You got to talk to the detectives or or you know, to the people that can work out a deal for you. Hey, [music] we trying to get the bigger fish. You you just a little pawn to you just a little crash out dummy to run in there. They don't care about you. They want the big fish who's actually making these checks and taking these accounts and doing this and doing that. But you don't do that with the road cop. Like what? Nah. >> [laughter] >> So, we'll figure out what's going on with this check, all right? >> You're going to jail. That's what's going on. >> Yeah, I'm going to >> Can I can I get my daughter a bottle real quick? She just >> I'll get your daughter a bottle, okay? You're under arrest. You have a warrant for your arrest. Look at it. I'll take care of it. I'll make sure your daughter's taken care of. Anything mom can do for you? I will get We'll get it figured out. >> Is my Is my girlfriend doing all right? >> Huh? >> What's my girlfriend doing, bro? >> What's that? Well, right now your That's fine. We'll get We'll take care of it, okay? Come back here and sit on my bumper. Step on it. All right, you're all right. >> Thank you. >> Mhm. Baby's crying and needs a bottle. You need to take care of the baby, okay? So, we can get this figured out. All right, come on. Come get her. Turn and face car so I can get Do you have anything in your pockets that's going to cut me, poke me, anything like that? No? Okay. All right, have a seat. All right, I'm going to read you your rights real quick, okay? Just do you understand each of these rights before I explain them to you? >> Yes. >> Having these rights in mind, do you want to speak to me? >> No. >> Okay. Oh, you're under arrest for obviously a warrant and possibly for fraudulent check. So, did he get the check from this Tyree guy? He got it from him and then they wrote it out to you and had you go and cash it? >> Unfuckingbelievable. He lets you out so you could go take care of the baby. You're doing that. Not even 2 minutes later, you're on the phone. Who are you possibly on the phone with? >> They didn't think you were getting trouble cuz you're pregnant, right? Or what? Who are you talking to? >> Just my mom. I was going to tell her that she probably needed to get the baby. So, I can put it on speaker. >> That's fine. Do you know how much money the check was made out for? How do you not know? You didn't read it before you took it in there? Cuz it depends on the amount of how much this check is for is how much what the charge is going to be. $900? So, she's pregnant and there's three kids in the car, all right? She's not going anywhere right now, but um and he has a warrant and she said that he put her up to taking the check. The check was $900 but it's a class four felony right now, so I'll call state's attorney see if he wants to wants me to take her cuz I don't know I don't even know when she's due. Is that not I just needed another car cuz I got Jeremy. When are you due? >> I am due uh three or four weeks. >> She's she's fine. So, he has a warrant for his arrest and he's a part of this fraudulent check. He put her up to go something named Tyrell to wrote a check out to her for $900 and tried to literally cash it. So, but there's three kids in the car that are very little. Says she's due in three weeks. Jeremy's over there getting the check right now. So, I just called for another car just in case the state's attorney tells me to take her to jail, so. >> I don't think so. >> What's going on? >> Uh you're going to jail. >> She's too late. She's late in her pregnancy. >> Well, I'm just letting you know, you're going to jail and she's getting a notice to appear for uh for uh deceptive practices, which is a class four felony, which she's going to have to go to court and if she doesn't go to court then she's going to get a warrant for her arrest. >> The only thing is not to complicate things more but that check the uh white paper copy >> Yeah. >> that was cashed yesterday in Canton. >> Exact same amount? >> Exact same amount, same address except for the city is different. >> Yep, and the check check numbers are different. >> That's different places. >> So, she did it twice, so that's $1,800. >> It sounds like someone else has been on this as well. >> Correct. >> Yeah, so today's is fraudulent and then yesterday's is what we thought it was fraudulent. Even Even though yesterday's the fraudulent >> Um this car was also in Canton at the time because the plate was ran in Canton. Your ride's here, buddy. You can stop complaining now. Huh? >> [ __ ] hurt. >> Yeah, well, don't get in trouble. Yeah, go to jail. Stop cashing other people's checks. You didn't give you the right to steal money. We all got bills to pay. It's called a job. >> [laughter] >> Hey, that's Hey, I agree with the officer. Everybody got bills to pay, man. >> You just admitted to it in the back of the car. She's like, "I'm not stealing from that company. I'm stealing from the banks and the government." Sorry to make you run. >> No, that's I mean, I heard you calling for backup. >> Yeah, I mean, they were being cooperative, and I knew she wasn't going to go anywhere, so >> Yeah. But you said you just said "pretty quick". Uh, can we get a dark gray car pretty quick? >> I didn't say pretty quick. >> Yeah, you said pretty quick. >> What I >> Or you said something or either quick or something along the lines that was like made me turn >> Oh. >> being like >> I didn't realize I said that, but I thought they were going to run from me at first, but I think I think that when he got over here and he realized he was boxed in, he wasn't going anywhere. >> I followed the kids in the car, too. >> Yeah. >> Just I told her to just go home. >> Yeah. So, you said you don't know this ta- last name? >> Um, no, but I can show you a picture. Like, I don't know her. >> You can show me a picture. I'm just so you know, we know this is not your first time doing this. You did it in Canton, too, right? You know that's a class four felony. That means you're going to jail for like 10 years if you get when you if you go to court and they find you guilty, right? Yes. Yes, absolutely. >> And that's Canton, too. That's not Gwinnett. >> It's Fulton County, yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, you're going to have If they charge you and Canton charges it, that's two counts, two two class four felonies. That's 20 years in jail. >> And these are kids. >> I told you she knew what was going on. And it just so happened she just done this twice now. Her little story would have would have held up a lot better if this was the first time. But since they did the the one, "Oh, he forced me to do it. da da da, he rammed me in there." That would hold up a lot better if this was the first one. But, the fact that you did it again and now you're trying to Nah, you're cooked. >> Yeah, he need to be thinking about that. This isn't the kind of life >> Not him. >> Yeah, I know. >> Yeah, screw that guy. Like >> He's the one dragging you into this. >> Yes, sir. >> And he thinks nothing's going to happen to you because you're pregnant, but that's the That's not the case. The only reason you're getting let go today is because you have three three kids in the backseat. Cuz the state's attorney would have taken you to jail. So, he's the one that's supplying you guys the checks? >> Yeah, apparently. >> There was somebody else in the car, but I've never There was a There was another guy in the car, but I've never seen him before, so I can't really tell you what his name is, but I know he goes by like money or something. >> Okay, got you. >> Yeah. >> And no money. All right, there you go. Sorry about this music playing. All right, go home, okay? Make sure you make that court date. You don't make that court date, guess what? We're going to put a warrant for your arrest, and we'll find you again, and you will go to jail next time. And you'll sit there until you have your court. Okay? All right. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> In the end, Aliza Johnson, pregnant and with three kids under five in the car, was released on a notice to appear, charged with deceptive practice, a class four felony, with a court date set for October 8th, 2025. Her companion, Brezay Blakely, was transported to Peoria County Jail on an outstanding warrant with an accessory charge to follow. >> [music] [music] >> Yeah, watch the footage, don't miss the stamps. >> [music] >> Let me know what you think of the change. >> Shy got >> We out. >> [music]
