The broader Wausau metropolitan area, which covers all of Marathon County, has a population of 138,000. On August 10th, 2026, a neighbor in the Landmark high-rise apartment complex placed a 911 call to the Wausau Police Department. The report was that there was a party going on and someone had pulled a knife. When Wausau Police arrived, the hallway was filled with teenagers. This 15-year-old, we'll call her Maria, was apprehended by Wausau Police Officer John Shoemaker, badge number 234. As Maria tried to leave the complex, Officer Shoemaker grabbed Maria because, reportedly, she refused to put down her cell phone. One of the teens in the hallway began recording soon after the incident. We're going to take a look at this and we're going to make some comments along the way. But, you tell me, when is it ever right in our society for a full-grown man to put his hands on a child like this and treat her like that? Secondly, doesn't the Wausau Police Department have a policy in place that prohibits any officer from putting weight or a knee on the back of a suspect who's in a prone position and already cuffed? The answer is absolutely. Take a look at this. Under Wisconsin's Law Enforcement Standards Board Training Guidelines and Standard Department Use of Force Policies, placing heavy continuous weight or knees on a prone subject's neck or back is what? Strictly prohibited as a standard compliance tactic. And it further states right here, the recovery position mandate. While officers are trained to use a knee on the back or shoulder temporarily to gain leverage while applying handcuffs, they are required to immediately transition the subject into a seated position or onto their side, known as the recovery position once the handcuffs are secure. Now, let's go back to this incident. This right here is the back of Wausau Police Department Officer Jon Shoemaker, badge number 234. He already has this girl face down in the prone position. She's already handcuffed and he has his knee on her back. Start the time right now. Knee on the back. She's already been handcuffed. What John Shoemaker did, Officer John Shoemaker, badge number 234 from the Wausau Police Department, was expressly is expressly prohibited by the Wausau Police Department policy manual. And besides that, do any of us even need a policy manual to tell us that what John Shoemaker did to this girl is not right. What any of these cops did to any of these kids is not right. I mean, this Wausau police officer really messed this little girl's face up. I spoke with this girl's mother today on the phone, and they intend to file a civil rights lawsuit, but they're going to need our help. So, I encouraged her to set up a GoFundMe.
