God, the production level on the decoder is so fire. LIKE IT'S LIKE WATCHING TV FOR REAL. You know, I was helping somebody out with uh with their YouTube channel or whatever and I was trying to break it down to him and I'm like, "Yo, you got to look at nowadays people are and this is a little off topic. See, this is what the live streams I might go off a little off topic sometime, but I was talking to him and I'm like, listen, you got to look at your YouTube channel as if it's TV. Cable is dead. that that's it's a wrap. Only really really only the old-timers still have cable, but mostly everybody is streaming Netflix, Hulu, whatever, you know, like that's pretty much it, you know, or YouTube, stuff like that. And you have to look at your YouTube channel as like as if it's TV. The decoders production is so crazy. This is so fire. Like, oh my goodness. Fire chief turn murder suspect. BOOM. LIKE, I GOT TO RUN THE INTRO BACK. I got to run the intro back. This is so fire. Do >> you know your neighbor Kevin and Marcy very well? >> I wouldn't say very well, but I mean I know them. >> We're investigating uh the death that Marcy died a few weeks ago. I don't know if you'd heard that. Um any concerns you have about their relationship or anything going on there that we should know about? >> Not that I could think of. Everyone seemed really happy. >> [music] >> In Wuko, Washington, a quiet suburban town where people look out for each other, tragedy has struck. >> And what's your first and last name? >> Kevin West. >> Tell me exactly what happened. >> She's having a seizure right now. Here on the Decoder, we'll take you through the investigation into Marcy's death and how it was revealed to be no accident, but rather part of a twisted plan, and a whole community will never be the same. Y'all can't tell me that's not fire. Taylor, what's up? LLM says, "Uh, I watch you at night." Kevin calls the Wugal Police Department at a little before 4:30 a.m. on January 8th, 2024. [music] >> Seizers are really scary. I'm going to help you and we're going to >> I'm a battalion chief of canvas. I I've been a paramedic for a long time. >> Okay, Kevin, it sounds like you're taking really good care of her. I hear it's her first seizure. Tell me exactly what happened. >> She woke me up in bed. I have her on the floor right now on her side. 49-year-old Kevin West is a battalion chief with the fire department and he's trained as a paramedic. His wife Marcy should be in safe hands. >> How old is she? >> Uh 48. >> Is she awake? >> No, she's not. >> Is she breathing? >> Yes. >> Okay, hold on just one sec. Has she had more than one seizure in a room? >> It hasn't stopped. I got you, man. Come on, baby. I got you. >> And they're coming. >> She's not breathing right now. Hold on. She's >> a lot of times. >> She's gone. Hold on. >> Hold on one second. Don't do CPR. >> I'm not I'm just checking on her right now. >> Okay. Cuz it's really scary, but a lot of people don't breathe when they're having a seizure. >> No, I know. I know what seizures are. She stopped. >> She stopped seizing. >> She had a headache at about 11:00 last night and she threw up and I didn't think about it. The paramedics arrive just a few minutes later, but Marcy by then is no longer seizing and no longer breathing. She's dead. Around 5:30 a.m., an officer sits down with Kevin, who's shell shocked. He tells them he and Marcy had dinner together the night before and she threw up and took some Tylenol before going to bed. >> Is that when you noticed something was wrong or was there at what time you know something was off? I don't I have no idea what time it was. It just woke up. The dog was whispering and kind of woke me up and and then I knew she was having a seizure got and woke up. >> Yeah. >> Marcy was 48 and had no long-term health conditions. She and Kevin had been together for decades, and they had two children, a 20-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter. As a fire chief, Kevin is a pillar of the local community, and so is Marcy as a nurse in the ER. From the outside, they were a picture perfect family. From the outside, on January 10th, 2 days after Marcy's death, the forensic pathologist carries out an autopsy. She's not expecting to find anything out of the ordinary. The pathologist finds that Marcy didn't die from the seizure, but that's not necessarily suspicious. >> At the end of the first day, I did not make any observations and I didn't have any information to suggest that this was anything other than a natural death. And I just needed to find the answer. >> Kevin trusted among law enforcement. He probably gave her some He probably gave her some poison or something. Man, listen. This guy know what he got to do. You know, certain He probably knows certain things what you got to do to to maybe give somebody something and and so that way they they die. But it might be in a way that it could be natural causes or something like that, right? you know, cuz there's certain there's all types of medications and drugs and stuff like that out there in the world that you could get to people and stuff like that. Lex, what's happening? Um, and yeah, something not right, man. Something's not right. And then you you're doing this and y'all been together forever. Two grown kids pretty much gr you know, they Damn. What made you snap? We got to get into it. has arranged for Marcy's body to be taken to the funeral home immediately, but the pathologist isn't quite finished and has her body brought back the next day. >> The second [clears throat] exam was the following day, so that would have been the 11th. And I believe, >> yeah, he tried to get rid of that thing. He tried to get the body out of her hands quick, boy. He said, "Hold on a minute." >> Again, we started around 9 or 10 in the morning. And were you able to see things in the second evaluation that you weren't able to see or fully appreciate on the first? >> Yes. >> And why was that? >> The on the first day that when we did the the initial examination of her body, um she had like many many people do very dense leidity or that pink deep pink deep purple discoloration. um that made it very challenging to see a lot of um the lesions I later identified on her on her um head and neck. >> Examining Marcy's body a second time, she finds bruises on her head and neck. >> I listed the cause of death as es asphixxia due to blunt neck trauma. >> This implies strangulation, not a spontaneous medical tragedy, but murder. At the same time, the investigation is revealing Kevin and Marcy's marriage to be less than perfect according to their friends and his colleagues. >> And so what did uh Kevin tell you about the marriage? >> Overall, it just seemed very strange for a very long time. >> Did he um tell you about the basis of the strains? >> There was some differences in how they parented, some strain about the children. >> They are disgusted with him. You don't really see this too often. Other like your co-workers, imagine you doing a crime and then your coworker testifies against but the coworker isn't invol involved with the crime or anything like that. Like nah, they are disgusted with him, man. So they came forward with some information and they all got that look with that with the thick mustache but no facial hair. But that's how you know if you a cop. You got that look right there. Cop, fireman, any type of law enforcement. That's the look you got. I ain't going to lie. A mustache with clean shaven. >> Did he um express to you financial strain in the marriage? >> Yes. >> There were historic problems in the relationship. shared more in the ways of um Marcy wasn't working I think and hadn't gone back to work. Um Kevin was working a lot of overtime. There was just a lot of things to try to keep up I think with whatever their financial responsibilities were that we did not talk about. >> Did Kevin West ever discuss divorce with you? >> Yes. >> Perhaps those previous problems had resurrected themselves. And in the days after Marcy's death, he doesn't exactly act like a grieving husband who's lost the love of his life. Not even around her parents. >> Kevin ever asked you whether you wanted any of Marcy's belongings? >> He did not. >> He disposes of her things without even talking to any of her loved ones about it. It's like he wants to erase her presence from his life entirely for reasons that will soon become chillingly clear. On January 23rd, a few weeks after her death, detectives come to interview Kevin again. He tells them Marcy felt unwell the previous evening. >> She wasn't dizzy. She didn't have visual changes. Kind of check those things out. Um got a girl in case she was going to throw up again. Um went to bed and then >> Okay. >> had a seizure, you know. Um >> did she often have headaches? She wouldn't have migraines. She didn't have headaches. There's no possibility. She doesn't drink. She doesn't smoke. >> Doesn't do anything like that. Um she's she's not going to overdose. >> Mhm. >> Um there's absolutely nothing that's going to show up in that toxicology report. >> Mhm. >> I was shocked to find out it's 2 to 3 months. >> Oh, really? >> I Well, I had no idea it was 2 3 months to get a toxicology report. And you know, this is my first time experiencing this firsthand. So, my dog was whimpering and I woke up and then realized she was having a seizure. >> Okay. >> Went around the bed. She was close to that end table on the to the right of the bed. >> Okay. >> Um, I slid her down just a little bit, rest her on my knee, and help her to the floor. Um, I got her on her side and then I ran around the bed, got my phone, called my >> Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, five gifted memberships. Appreciate you. Appreciate you your support. Georgia >> one, I was on the phone with dispatch phone in front of me and um, she wasn't breathing. >> But there's something different about this interview. something the detect >> and welcome new members. If you in the chat, thank Georgia >> don't yet know about. As they speak, a woman is hiding in the room just next door. And she might be the key to unraveling the whole mystery. Because Kevin, being a sociable, friendly guy, wellknown in the community, has a lot of friends, and those friends have more information to share with the cops. In September 2023, he and his fellow firefighters went on a hunting trip. >> This trip, Kevin West was on his cell phone like nonstop. >> Georgia says, "I was trying for the current watchers." Yeah, like sometimes it it's so random. It'll go to random people, but I think YouTube should like if people are watching cuz I think that happened last time. maybe one or two two viewers or whatever they were actually watching and it went to them and stuff like that, you know. Now I appreciate you, Georgia. >> And it was more than just [snorts] a few phone calls. It was a lot of time spent on it. So finally I both Scott and I noticed, you know, what was this was about. So I confronted him and I said, "What's her name?" Her name was Cynthia Ward. The issues in Kevin and Marcy's marriage weren't just financial. He was having an affair as well. A week later, the detectives come to speak to him again. This >> Come on, man. WHAT'S UP WITH EVERYBODY CHEATING ON EACH OTHER? TYPICALLY, it's the other way around. The one that gets cheated on is the one that snaps and send you Hold on. and send you up through there, man. Not you're cheating and then you also going to off you like what? No. Typically, you're cheating, you get caught and then that the other person is mad that they was getting cheated on and then they decide to get you together. Well, he thought like, come on, man. You smart. you police chief or fire chief this and that, but you clearly not too bright. Come on, man. Just split. But hey, you know what they say, it's cheaper to keep her >> time. They're armed with new information. First off, they know Marcy underwent a life scan in December 2023. So we never um just knowing she doesn't go in for physicals and all these I was like and that this year was the first year it was opened up to spouses. >> Oh okay. >> So it was line personnel spouses and then retirees then volunteers and it was based on how much space was available and how many appointments were available. So, um, I was like I worked hand in hand with Dan Hammond who runs the coordination of all that life scan and I was one of the first ones to sign up and just make sure that Marcus was on that because my experience the first year was like and you knew everything like yours are clear, you're you know all you I don't have a fatty liver. Apparently Marcy had a fatty liver, I guess. You know, um I was like, it's just good information. >> They did it. >> He's probably a douchebag, just like LLM said. [clears throat] It says a lot when his firefighter men um not talking kind of him. Usually they're like brothers. Yeah. Law enforcement tight. Firemen, cops, whatever. Correction, whatever. Tight. even if you doing wrong, like it's it's it's tight. That's the way it is. So, he's probably a real either an [ __ ] or he's just done people dirty or whatever because the way that they falling in, people might think, "Oh, it's because, you know, they're here to support the wife and this and that." No, it's something else going on cuz they could easily just not say anything and just whatever, you know, because you know, co-workers and stuff like that. Co-workers know when people cheating and people doing whatever, you know what I mean? You always got the work wife and the work husband, you know, it's a thing. But yeah, he's probably a he's probably a [ __ ] man. >> Find anything conclusive. And then we we talked a little bit about uh Unimar's relationship last time and um you'd mentioned like any relationship there were some bumps along the way. Um are you able to talk to us about those bumps or like when those were? >> So in 2015 um we were spending a lot of money on my parents. >> Okay. We didn't have a savings account in this. It would always uh worry me that I don't have money for adults. >> Ever any talk of like impending divorce or like seeking a separation? >> We talked about that. >> Okay. >> But that was that was back in 15. >> 15. >> Okay. And then moving forward and again these this is another couple questions that I apologize for uh you know being blunt but um do you happen to know Cynthia? Um and how do you know her? I guess what's your relationship? >> So um I had had an affair. >> Okay. Cynthia and uh I'm struggling with my choice of of doing that. I I knew of her um in the early 2000s. >> Okay. >> I met her because she was a washroom volunteer. >> And as far as like timeline of of the affair, when was that happening? >> Right now. >> Right [music] now. >> Okay. And then I guess how long or how frequently has this been happening since then? >> Once a month. >> Okay. simply we're having an affair. Um, >> it's more than once a month. That's a lie. It's a lie. It's not once a month. That mean it would be only 12 times a year. Lying. More like once a week. >> She came here. Um, she was here the night you guys were here. That was Tuesday. Um, we were in the garage and having a drink when you guys came. >> Okay. And um I told her you guys were here. I went out there and um we were having sex. I mean, and uh I shouldn't do that, but I did. >> 51-year-old Cynthia Ward is the missing link. If anyone knows the truth of what happened to Marcy, it might be her. So, the detectives track her down. >> I really appreciate you taking the time. >> No problem. Um, so we are here to talk about um Kevin and Marcy's situation with Kevin West. How long have you known Kevin? >> These are approximate like I knew him when I was a volunteer firefighter. So again, maybe 20 years ago. >> Oh, okay. >> So, yeah. >> Where'd you volunteer at? >> Lugle. [music] >> And then did you know Marcy at all or >> I think I met her once. >> Okay. >> 20 years ago. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. So, way back in the day, I guess. What was the relationship or dynamic with Kevin at that time? >> Pretty much friends at first. Um and then um kind of had like a closer relationship. I did um I think it was because I liked his paramedic work. I had a couple firefighters that I liked and I just enjoyed working with. So >> yeah. >> You said a little bit closer with Kevin. Um did you guys ever like date or was he >> not really date >> married at the time or I was too. Gotcha. And then moving to like more recently. >> No, we ain't moving to more recently. Not not yet. Not yet. Not yet. He's in He's in that life. Fireman, paramedic life or whatever. She's in that life. They knowing of each other is close by. Listen, this falls in line with work wife, work husband. I'm trying to tell you, it's a real thing. It's a real thing, man. Yeah, they got real. They got Oh, at first we were friends. Then we got a little closer. But you was married at the time. That's the type of stuff I'm talking about. These people be having whole families at home. But get real cozy at work, man. Get real friendly. >> Um, when's the last time you saw Kevin? Today's uh this last week >> I did >> today's Wednesday. >> Yeah, last week. >> What What do you guys do Saturday? Any like free birthday plans or >> Yeah, I mean just to talk. I I kind of comfort him a little bit during this hard time. Um it's nothing. >> Yeah. What kind of comfort comforting you doing? I'm trying to find out. >> Relationship wise, it's more of a friend. >> Okay. >> To comfort him. And is is that mutual [clears throat] both ways like friend or is there anything any spark there? >> Well, at that meeting at our the time we met, it wasn't uh sexual or any kind of romance. It was just for comfort. That's what it's been. >> Oh, yeah. Just for comfort in the garage right before the cops came. Yeah. Real comfort >> since um RC. >> Okay. So, >> um, were you were you saying that way back when it was >> No, just recently. Talking about Yeah. >> Um, so just recently it it hasn't been >> No, I just Yeah, just pretty much just being a friend right now. >> Okay. Platonic relationship. >> Right now. >> Has there ever been a time where you guys were involved or intimate? >> Yes. >> Okay. And when was that? >> Like I don't know the last time. I don't I can't give a date. >> I guess like in a time time frame. >> Oh, like when it started like a >> or I guess um like in in general, was this 20 years ago? Was this a week or a month ago? >> I mean just like a month ago, maybe a couple months ago. [laughter] I don't know. I don't know the date and I I don't I'm not sure. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> No, that's okay. >> The thing is, according to Kevin, she's lying. They met to have sex just [music] a few weeks ago, the day the cops came to see him. >> That initial time frame where you were volunteering and and >> remember she was given comfort in the garage. >> We got to know Kevin. How long did you guys talk or were you close? Was it like months, years? >> I don't know. Months maybe. Like 20 years ago. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. >> Um how long were you volunteering with Washington School? >> 7 years. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I mean, and were you guys like working together for roughly that entire time? Do you know? Or was it >> No, I don't even know when he started. I think I was there before him. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know. I'm sorry. >> You'd mentioned more recently you guys started talking again. >> Yeah. Like I don't know, months maybe like 20 years ago. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. >> Um, how long were you volunteering with Washington? >> Seven years. >> Okay. >> Yeah. And and were you guys like working together for roughly that entire time? Do you know? Or was it >> No, I don't even know when he started. I think I was there before him. >> Okay. >> Work wife, work husband. >> So, I don't know. I'm sorry. >> You'd mentioned more recently you guys started talking again. >> Yeah. Like in July. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And kind of what was the dynamic there or how did you >> Wait, what Georgia said? She said, "I threw my ex-husband out after I met his work wife." Listen, it's a real thing. I'm trying to tell you, boy. You Hey, listen. You got the ladies out there doing their thing. You got the fellas out there doing their thing, you know, and then they go home and and and play marriage, you know, play play house. [laughter] >> Just, hey, how's it going? Pretty much that's how it for a while. just talking and chatting and just kind of remembering old times like you know remember we went on this call one time kind of thing. >> Gotcha. >> No, they wasn't. Yeah, it was a special type of call that they they were reminiscing about. No, man. Yeah, she talking about Yeah, we just chatted catching up. You remember this call? Yeah. Okay. She remembers something. All right. for a while just talking and chatting and just kind of remembering old times like you know remember we went on this call one time kind of thing. >> Gotcha. >> Um but that was that was it. >> And then how did you first learn of Marcy's passing? >> He told me. >> Okay. >> Kevin told me. >> And do you remember about when that was? >> I think I messaged him and just said like a morning or something and um he had he told me that she passed away. Okay. And it like that day or was it like a couple days after or >> I I think it was that day. I think I'm sorry. Nope. >> I think it was that day. >> Okay. Um >> I reached out to him. He didn't reach out to me. I messaged just like hi good morning or something like that. >> Okay. And radio silence from him. He didn't respond. >> He resp I think he responded like again an hour later. It was later in the day, I think. I'm trying to think go back to that day, but I it I reached out to him and then he told me. >> Okay. And what is it like abnormal for him to not respond? >> Yeah, kind of in timely fashion. Yeah. >> And do you remember like what he said or the context of of how she passed? >> I think it just mainly was I'm just going to think about it for a second. >> Marcy passed away. um she had a seizure or I I might have asked. So again, I'm just kind of [clears throat] guessing a little bit. He had a seizure. Um and he did CPR. I think I said something that could have been really hard and he was upset and I don't know if he really wanted to talk about it. Just sad. And that's why I'm just being a friend right now. >> Cynthia, >> ladies, y'all out of control, man. [laughter] Y'all out of control. in the comments, man. Yo, [laughter] y'all out of control, man. Yo, [laughter] says she met [music] Kevin's kids just once at a family gathering after Marcy's death, and she maintains she was only there for emotional support, but her involvement in the family is [music] telling. >> He has marriage, and it seems from the outside looking in that it's not going so well. and we don't know him, right? We don't we don't know you just for summer state. And what we're asking is those background questions so we can get a better idea of of th those things because there's there's things from the medical examiner side >> that people don't understand uh even even people who work in our professions don't understand how much of an impact the outside life can actually impact impact what they're what they're viewing when when they're doing the examination. were trying to get information from other people what that what they believed it to be and then from you I think you have unique perspective because there from the sounds of it there was has been some intimacy and at the very least uh from a comfort perspective to me that the way you're describing it sounds like there's a a future potential uh uh relationship so we're trying to figure out how all that actually fits so that we we can just better understand the dynamic Yeah. I mean, honestly, I don't want to I I don't know how to speak on their marriage. I don't >> It's been I guess we're not asking >> like was he angry with her? No. >> Again, she stays carefully neutral. >> Your perspective, what do you think he's seeking that he wasn't having in in his marriage? Because >> it would be a guess. Um, >> sure. That's all we can ask is your perspective. So, >> maybe some intimacy. I don't know. So working through August um into September, are you able to talk to us about your relationship with Kevin at that time? >> Just it became more you know >> and from there I guess surely there was something like in between August and now. Um you guys talking more it sounds like did it get to like a daily basis? You guys were talking >> daily. Mhm. and as it turned into, you know, more of a relationship than platonic or friendship. Um, did talks about Were you in a relationship at the time? >> Yes. >> Okay. And Kevin was obviously in a a relationship with Marcy. Um, did you guys have conversations about that? >> About what? >> About you guys being in relationships with other people and seeing each other? >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Are you able to talk to us about those conversations? It tends to happen like that because they both have equally the same thing to lose. So, I've seen it. Like, trust me, I've seen it. Like, I've seen it. And, you know, mainly when I was in corrections, you know, not my other jobs, you know, I mean, every job has that type of stuff, but corrections, man, yo, [snorts] it's on it's it's like it's it's it's insane. It's just insane, you know. But typically, you see that if one person is in is already in a relationship and then the other person that they cheat with, a lot of times they're going to be in a relationship too because they both have the same thing to lose. The power struggle or or the difference, it could become really problematic. How how should I say? It could be become really problematic if let's say I'm I'm in a relationship and she's not in a relationship and then we're messing around and then it splits up or maybe she's unhappy with something or whatever the case may be. Then that person has the leverage to go back and be like, "Hey, well, I got all these messages, blah blah blah blah blah, and you're cooked while she lives her happy single life." You know? So, a lot of times with the cheating and stuff like that, it's they both have the same thing to lose because if you go to say something about me, then all right, well, I'mma go say something about you. We just all going to be we we [ __ ] We all going to be paying alimony in this mug. You know, >> just that we were in relationships. I'm my I had the same partner for about 9 years. So, >> um and we live together. >> The discussions ever go from that point, that's point to to what would life look like if if we were not no longer in our relationships, our current relationships. >> Yeah. like I I at first I think it really was like a fantasy because we knew each other and we had that >> um connection, you know, from a long time ago. And yeah, I mean it did, but I think in our heads we thought it was more of a fantasy fantasy talk, more of you know, would it be great to be together or whatever that looked like, but it wasn't. Yeah, that's pretty much what it what it was. >> Cynthia is still with her partner John and living with him despite the situation with Kevin. >> And you said he he doesn't know about Kevin. Um you you haven't told him about Kevin at all? >> Okay. >> He does [clears throat] now. >> Um has he had any like suspicions or anything that's anything like that? >> Yeah. >> Did he raise those suspicions when when you guys talked about separating? Yeah. >> Okay. Um I guess how what did that conversation look like? >> He asked if I knew of Kevin. >> Okay. >> And I didn't say yes or no. Um he's like pretty much he would find him and I confront him or destroy his life or whatever that look like. Um, not like I don't know if it was like, you know, idol threats or whatever. Um, but he has brought up his name a few times. I just kind of just let it go. >> Her relationship with John is difficult [music] and the cops have been called on them in the past. >> My daughter is uncomfortable with him. Um, and she's [music] begged like, can he please just live somewhere else? And I'm trying to figure that out, trying I have my daughter, I have me, I have um financially it's expensive, but he that night I knew that I never wanted to be with him again. >> And Cynthia, Kevin was seeking intimacy. And in Kevin, Cynthia was seeking safety. But neither of them considered Marcy's place in all this. Sounds like you guys, you and John are are kind of trying to you're trying to figure things out as far as separating, >> trying to keep calm. >> Um, >> what the hell she crying about? You give two craps about your husband and your family and you out here freaking popping it for this dude over here. What What is there to cry about, man? Don't cry. You know, had had Kevin had any of those conversations with Marcy as far as separating or divorcing? >> She over there. What is she crying, man? Crying, giving out comfort like she a freaking masseuse or something like what what you crying about. Don't cry now that you ruined your whole relationship. It's over. When this footage come out is over. Well, it's already out. But when this dropped and when this all happened, this case and everything, man, it was over. I hope he split, got everything. You know what I'm saying? Shoot. >> Probably a little bit just because he I was in this situation and I wanted to get out. >> I mean, that's why I don't know if it was a fantasy for him that was me just making me feel better. [laughter] Like are you saying you don't know if he would tell you like like we're seeking a separation to try and like give you hope and and make you feel better? >> Yeah. Like um Yeah. I mean we fell in love with each other. So, I thought maybe that eventually one day. Um, but I was still stuck in my situation, you know, trying to keep Johnny from, you know, going crazy. >> Sure. Did Kevin ever talk about like finances or his money situation? >> No. um not not really anything [music] um that he's doing better than he did when 20 years ago. >> Sure. >> He's a battalion chief, you know. Um and I was really proud of that for him. Um I told him that I I'm the only one on my house that um but John is going uh to get an attorney, he said, and take half um because we live together. >> Okay. And then recently I told him that. >> So what is she the bread winner? [clears throat] Oh >> I can get an attorney too. I just don't I'm just not a big fighter like that. So it was just going to >> SO GIVE IT UP. YOU AIN'T A BIG FIGHTER. GIVE JOHNNY EVERYTHING. HE deserves it. Your cheating ass, man. You out there at work giving him a kiss. He probably I don't know. He he he who knows Johnny. Johnny Johnny could have been a stay-at-home dad. Who knows? cuz I don't know. But he kiss her. Oh, babe, have a good day at work. Meanwhile, when she get to work, they go to the bathroom and she kissing this dude, the the the other guy. Come on, man. This is from way back in the day. Yeah. Oh, Johnny. I'm just going to the grocery store. Meanwhile, she and Dude in in Dude Garage GIVING COMFORT, GIVING MASSAGES. YEAH. GOT THE BABY OIL AND EVERYTHING. GOT THE CANDLES, THE WAX. YEAH. Giving massages. Full grown massages, man. Going crazy. >> What? He was going to give me [laughter] my house. >> From the sound of things, Cynthia wouldn't be bringing much money to the relationship if she and John divorced, which according to Kevin's friends would have been a problem. >> It's like your worst nightmare. You built a pension for 20 years. Um, and then say your wife comes up to you and says she wants a divorce. Right? By that time, you're ready to get out of the field. Um, and now you're worried about getting rid of 50% of your stuff. >> Sick. >> He was worried about the money he'd have to give Marcy if they divorced and he'd have little money from Cynthia to replace it. >> Did he say something to you about Marcy's passing? >> Yes. >> What did he say? that he was relieved and that a burden had been lift off his shoulders. >> Has he Have finances been an issue since Marcy's passing at all that he's brought up? >> No, I don't I don't think so. >> Um I know sometimes or most times it seems like in in situations of like unexpected death where you know funeral arrangements haven't been made, they haven't made plans like that or you know last will and gone down that route. sometimes getting hit with all those very unexpected expenses can be a big impact. >> Um, has that been the case at all? >> No, he just said everyone's been so nice and the outreach has been amazing. >> Okay. >> You know, the fire department and pretty tight family and that, you know, when something happens. >> Um, so I think that he that is the help maybe he's getting. Okay, that's that's >> I know he didn't he's never said, you know, I need money in any way. He's never said that to me. >> Did he ever say he wouldn't be able to afford separating or divorcing? >> Okay. >> Either she's lying or Kevin was. >> Did Kevin ever talk about um did Marcy know about the affair? >> I don't think so. >> Okay. ever any indicators of that she may have been suspicious or um aware of of I guess different things cuz >> like I me telling him him that Johnny has has said his name. No, he's never said anything that Marcy knew anything. >> Do you think that that now it's going to be easier for you and Kevin to start start a relationship? What are your thoughts? Like where do you think you sit right now in the relationship? Like where is it going to from your perspective? >> Um I'm not going to jump to anything until he can finish his morning or without whatever the you know recovery that you said is >> um and just be there for him. I'm I I didn't have like plans never to talk to him again or something that as we're talking you have feeling you guys are telling each other that you love each other and now you're at a place where at least from on his on his side there's there's a finished place with that relationship now I mean and you know there is that >> I don't think he stops >> like loving her right now just because she's passed I think he has to go through that Yeah, >> that process >> my feelings for him haven't changed. sound. >> I'mma tell a story cuz [clears throat] Jordan [laughter] Yo. So, there was a story like uh a little while ago when they did the uh they talked about um they talked about um how you know when the guy was on the stand and he was like, you know, yeah, you know, that could be difficult working 20 years or 25 years or whatever and you know, you're winding down, you're about to retire or whatever and then you're, you know, your significant other says she wants a divorce. divorce or they want a divorce, that could be pretty hard, right? To give up 50, to give up half, you know, and that happens. That definitely happens. I've seen it time and time and time again with the oldtimes when I was in corrections. And I'm going to tell this one story just because it was such a crazy amount of money that they that he gave up like and he was sick. So, it was this guy who was working and and he was a old-timer. He had like 26 years on the job and in corrections it was like 25 and out. So he was already past his time and he was a overtime he was pretty much a overtime [ __ ] So he he you know cuz he's trying to the more you work you know your overtime goes towards your pension or whatever. The more money you make you know to to set your pension. So he planned on doing like he wanted to do like 27 or 28 years or something like that. and he was a he was a year away from uh retiring, right? And his now this is the crazy part. Like this is this is so crazy. So throughout his time in corrections, he built up a nice uh uh 401k and stuff like that cuz you you get the pension in, you got the the 401k and all that type of stuff, too. So he had a nice stack built up. Something something real nice. I'm talking M m and up. It was it was built up through there. So So he So his wife, they were together for 27 years. So just before he got in the corrections, they ended up getting married and stuff like that. And she was cheating. Now this is cra this is crazy. She was cheating and she had like dude was like 24. So this is like that movie Stella Got her groove back. She was out there doing her thing cuz he was a overtime [ __ ] and so she knew that he would be working doubles every day and and sometimes he did even triples and stuff like he would stay at the jail. So boom. So she was out doing her thing having them over whatever. Right. So [ __ ] hits the fan, whatever. She wants a divorce, yada yada. So in their divorce thing and and he he talked about this. So I know like and he [snorts] ended up now she kind of lost. I ain't going to lie. She kind of lost. You know, in the short term it seemed like a good idea, but I think overall she lost because she and Well, nah, you know what? Maybe she won. I'll say she won. Whatever. So, and and nah, I don't know. You let me know if she won or not, but I'm going to tell you. So, he ends up giving up half of his 401k. So, it was it was like 600 700,000 that he ended up giving up cuz he had like 1.2 or something like that. So, he he um he gave her that like took took it out early, gave her that. Boom. gave her like 600 and something thousand 600 700,000 in order for her to sign off on not her not taking his pension but she got the house and all that [ __ ] too. So I mean damn n she probably did win cuz she got the lump sum and and the house and everything. Nah, she won. I ain't going to lie. She won. He got cooked. He got cooked. And when I left, he was he was still working. Like he he worked p a couple of years more and he was still working overtime [ __ ] Like it's just crazy, man. Crazy. Like, and I'm like, that's a the reason why that's such a crazy scenario is because she's the one that stepped out, you know? She's the one that whatever. But it you know, y'all know ladies, it's in y'all favor. Like, come on, man. Let's be real. I Come on. You ain't got to lie to me. I know, but it's uh you know, and she's still Yeah. She ended up getting like 66 600 700,000 and keeping the house and all of that stuff. And you know, he he just still working, but he gets to keep his pension, which that's good, you know, because he could retire and live off whatever is 4,000 a month or whatever whatever he gonna get, you know. Um but yeah, man, that was a that was a crazy case. But I only brought that up because that happens a lot when people get towards the end of their their time of or pension time, you know, time for retirement, man. [ __ ] it's time to cash out, man. Oh [ __ ] And she ended up being with that 20some year old dude the last time I checked or whatever. Uh, but yeah, man, that was insane. That was insane. >> I hope that you guys will reach there, but there's things that have to get [snorts] >> Yeah. I mean, yeah, if he can do that or if he feels like he would still want to. >> Yeah, I would. I still don't know why it's being investigated. I have no idea. Um I'm confused on that whole part. And I thought maybe he wanted to talk to me about the affair. >> Um did and this is a normal question. Wanda says, "So, was that enough money for her?" I mean, depends. I Well, you could look at it two ways. She was a stay-at-home she was a stay-at-home um she was a stay-at-home wife, you know, so is it enough? You know, because now you you know, yeah, you get a big lump sum and you got a place to stay and you got a car, but after that money run out, what else are you going to do? Where at least the pension, that's why I say she kind of lo like I don't know. It's tough because the pension at least you going to get something every month, you know, where the 600,000 that's going to last you to keep it real, that's going to last you uh six, seven years maybe. That seven years maybe, you know, depends. But, you know, that that's not that it's not that much. >> Promise. Um, did Kevin give you any indication of of what to say or not to say when you came here? >> He said to be honest and truthful, >> but she's already behaved dishonestly. >> We first we went to Kevin's you were you were there. >> Yeah, that was the first time um that after his birthday. So, I've only been there twice. >> And um we stayed in the garage cuz I felt more comfortable. >> We were kind of surprised like you didn't come out or anything. So, >> I didn't even know you guys were there. Like, I didn't know it was you. >> Okay. >> I didn't know the it was police. I actually thought it was his neighbor and he was sitting in there talking with his neighbor. I didn't know until >> you you uh left. Yeah. >> What What did he say when we left? >> He said, "Oh, they just wanted to um discuss whatever you know this whole investigation." Um so, I said, "Okay." Why is that >> was I guess I'm I'm having a hard time imagining we were in there talking with him for like an hour. >> I had no idea. I promise you I had no idea it was you guys. I thought it was his neighbor >> and there were >> Yeah, cuz he was putting her to sleep. You know what I'm saying? They was in the base or they was in the garage doing what it do and then y'all came and interrupted. She was probably [ __ ] She was boy she laying on the couch whatever in the garage, man. inconsistencies regarding who knew about the affair, too. First, she says no one did, and then she says maybe Kevin told her mom. And when the detectives drill down on that, she gets defensive. >> This is changing just a little bit, like >> we're we're beating around the bush and I know it's past 6 and you're trying to go and I'm trying to go. >> Um, >> it just kind of changed. I feel like >> Okay. Well, some of some of your answers have changed in that sometimes we see deception come across in different ways. >> Okay. And >> I'm trying to be deceptive and I told you that. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Um and and no offense. I'm not saying you are, but everybody in that chair says something similar to that effect. >> Okay. >> So, I guess what I'm trying to ask >> I'm not liking that feeling. Like I'm trying to be as >> Start crying. Go back to the crying. Maybe that'll work. >> Truthful as possible. And I this not feeling very good. Like I'm here to answer questions without anyone else and now I'm feeling like this I I don't like it anymore. >> Okay. And that's I I didn't mean to come across that way. Um I guess I'm I'm just trying to ask it and maybe my partner can rephrase it. Do you understand what I'm getting at? >> No, I this is changing to be something that I >> You're making You're saying like to be more truthful. I'm trying really hard like Hey, >> I think we're >> I need to take a break. >> I think I need a break. >> Cynthia is not under arrest, so she's free to go and she leaves. But she can't get away from her entanglement with Kevin and his dead wife. The detectives search the house as well as the couple's online accounts, and it's in Kevin's message history that the real revelations lie. On January 3rd, he messaged Cynthia's brother-in-law, Paul. Paul had been sending him real estate listings. >> Kevin messaged Paul, "I'm moving out on Monday." A second message read from Kevin to Paul. Papers done Tuesday. >> And now, what date were these sent? >> Both of those were sent January 3rd, 2024. >> So, what date would have been Monday? >> January 8th. And when were these messages deleted? [music] >> Both were deleted on January 3rd, 2024 at approximately 6:56 p.m. So on January 3rd, 2024 at 4:21 p.m. local. [music] Paul had replied, "They need it." Four years ago, we were in Goldenale looking at property with Cynthia and Tanya. And I asked Cynthia if she was going to be able to afford the property once Johnny was out of the picture. She looked at me and scoffed and said she could never imagine a future without him. And that was after about a year of just bad fighting between them. Kevin replied, "But I don't care. I will find the best option." [music] Paul replied, "Good for you. Divorce sucks, but staying in a dead relationship is worse." >> Did Kevin reply to that divorce sucks message? >> He did. >> What did he say? Kevin replied, "For sure." And in a second message, "Cynthia and I are solid and we have an amazing future together. I can't wait to add to my family and start over. Legal crap will be over in June." >> These messages were also deleted. [music] There's evidence that Cynthia and Kevin had definitive plans to leave their partners, live together, and get married. But why lie? Unless they knew it would [music] look suspicious. On January 3rd, Kevin also messaged Cynthia's mom. >> Cynthia and I are doing great and recently have been able to have her with me. I can't help myself from telling you how much I love your daughter. I'm the happiest I've ever been. And when we are together, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Who messaged the mom? I don't know why Cynthia will lie because it's not like she did the murder. You know what I'm saying? It's not like she did the killing. So, you might as well just be honest. Ed, there's evidence that Cynthia and Kevin had definitive plans to leave their partners, live together, and get married. But why lie? Unless they knew it would look suspicious. On January 3rd, Kevin also messaged Cynthia's mom. >> That's wild. >> Cindy and I are doing great and recently have been able to have her with me. I can't help myself from telling you how much I love your daughter. I'm the happiest I've ever been. And when we are together, we always have the most amazing time making very special memories out of anything we do. I'm meeting my attorney on the 9th and I will have options to decide from and I'm very excited. So the mom didn't tell Johnny neither. Yo, Johnny. Johnny man, he better get boy. He better get it. And I don't know if Cynthia got has anything because they was saying that, you know, if he divorces or whatever, Cynthia can't make up the income. So, she probably don't even have nothing for real. You know what I mean? So, or working, you know, any significant job bringing any bringing in any real type of income, you know what I mean? But damn, you got the the the guy she's cheating on. Oh, man. Messaging the mom. That's crazy. >> I will also be moving out on the 8th. Next week will be a big week for Cynthia and I to celebrate. I love you. >> January 8th, the day of Marcy's suspicious death. On March 20th, the toxicology report comes back and it supports the medical examiner's opinion on Marcy's cause of death. Asphixxia with blunt force trauma to the neck. added to the messages and Kevin's inconsistent story. The detectives make their decision. >> My son isn't. >> We'll we chat with them here in a minute. Okay. >> God, I didn't I This is crazy. I didn't do anything. >> So, if you want to face our car for a second, you want to take a step forward. >> Kevin, you understand? I didn't do anything. >> We'll we'll talk about that here in a minute. Do you have anything on you? Anything sharp? I I have nothing. I have my I have something in my pocket. I don't know what >> Okay. >> I have my rock in my pendants. >> Okay. So, we're going to search you real quick and then we'll >> we'll explain what's going on. OKAY. >> I lost my wife. I tried to save her. I tried to save my wife. I've only tried to save people my whole life. Like, this isn't right. >> With Kevin under arrest in the cruiser, his and Marcy's son comes out to talk to the cops. >> So, I'll catch you up to speed super quick and easy. >> God, imagine being the kid about to hear this information. This is insane. >> There's a lot going on. Your family been through a lot of jobs. Your dad's been arrested. He's going to go to jail today. Right now they're taking him back to our office to see if he wants to to talk about things that he is being arrested for murder. And can I ask uh what grounds do you have like evidence? >> There's a whole lot to it. You guys are going to get a notification from the medical examiner's office today. >> Okay. And that's the toxicology report. >> Uh well, part of it. >> Kevin's taken back to the police department. You've been exceptionally polite, cooperative the whole time, too. Every contact with you has been polite and cooperative life. >> I don't want [snorts] to have my attorney present. >> Okay. >> He doesn't talk to the detectives, but they don't need him to. They have enough to take him to trial. And at trial, he takes the stand in his own defense. >> Terrible. >> Tries to recontextualize. >> Damn. Terrible idea. Never take Oh, man. lawyer lawyers will tell you never to take the stand, but um you know obviously ultimately it is up to him or whatever. Um but yeah, you you don't never take the stand in your trial, man, cuz the defense is going to chew you up, man. Or the prosecutor about to >> other witnesses testimony. and he testified that you told him I think he said that day you said a big burden had been that you were relieved or something. Did you have a conversation with Scott Sloven that day when you said something like that? >> I I could have I would have never in my life used that in the context of Marcy passing. Um the things like um the fire department supporting me and and bringing food for everyone, that was a load that was lifted off my shoulders. I don't know of uh >> and this is why you don't take the stand. So they can't even ask you no question like that. Cuz if you a jury, if you on jury duty and you hear that a load lifted off your shoulders about some bringing some food to work, what you sound dumb, you sound stupid, man. >> Tries to recontextualize other witnesses testimony. and he testified that you [music] told him I think he said that day you said a big burden had been that [music] you were relieved or something. Did you have a conversation with Scott Sloven that day when you said something like that? >> I I could have I would have never in my life used that in the context of Marcy passing. Um the things like um the fire department supporting me and and bringing food for everyone, that was a load that was lifted off my shoulders. I don't know of uh you know any other reason that I would say something like that. >> But it's hard to believe that a friend would misinterpret something like that. Not without good reason. Similarly, he tries to explain selling Marcy's belongings so soon after her death. >> I apologize for that. I don't know that there was something that they would have wanted. Um I didn't think to ask and I I I regret that. Um but it wasn't done in haste. I just uh there was a lot going on at the time. There was the ice storm. I just lost my wife. Um uh someone that I loved very much for a very long time that I lived with, had children with. Um but um we also had the other side. It was it was very difficult and um that was a lot of emotion to handle. >> Did uh >> did you go to Marcy's funeral? >> No, I did not. I wasn't welcome. >> How did How did you become aware of that? >> Um I when I was arrested um I very quickly found out uh who wanted to talk to me anymore. >> Kevin, did you put your wife in a weird deep and choke hole that strangled her to death? >> No. >> So who did? This is why you don't take the stand. Because the report came back pretty you choked her that she was choked. So if you didn't do it who did it and you was right next to her calling 911. Why would you take the stand, bro? Oh my god. >> Did you do anything to cause the contusion on the back of her head? >> No, I did not. >> Did you do anything to cause Mar's death? No, I did not. Kevin's defense team present the theory that Marcy's seizure was caused by an overly vigorous massage given by her son the night before her death. But when he demonstrates the massage he gave her, it's clear that it was harmless. >> Okay. >> Uh so whenever you're ready, please kind of the general um I kind of it's kind of hard to see from your point of view, but I would kind of press >> Hold on. He said that she died because of a massage the son gave. So you throwing your son under the bus? What? What? What? >> No, I did not. >> Did you do anything to cause Marcy's death? >> No, I did not. >> Kevin's defense team present the theory that Marcy's seizure was caused by an overly vigorous massage given by her son the night before her death. But when he demonstrates the massage he gave her, it's clear that it was harmless. Okay. >> Uh, so whenever you're ready, please >> kind of the general um I'd kind of it's kind of hard to see from your point of view, but I would kind of press and go in a circular motion on the back trying to find those knots. Oh, >> okay. >> Someone caused those injuries [music] and it wasn't their son. After just 2 hours of deliberation, the jury finds >> Damn. You see what jail duty? You see what jail do you? Look how he look. He look a lot different >> on the back trying to find those knots. >> Okay. >> Someone caused those injuries and it wasn't their son [music] after just >> versus this. [snorts] You get a hard a more hardened look. >> Two hours of deliberation, the jury finds Kevin guilty of first and [music] seconddegree murder. But at a sentencing hearing, the family strife continues. Their son pleads for mercy. >> My name is stead blessed and I am writing to you regarding [music] my fathers. I respectfully come for you to ask for being seat. I have the privilege of my father's function two years and during that time he has consistent sha himself to meet empathetic [music] and loving. His character reflects someone who genuinely cares about others and [music] strives to do what is right. But their daughter says something very different. >> What hurts in a way I will never fully be able to put into words. So that you didn't just take my long for me. You had the nerve to look me in the eyes days later and ask if I was relieved she [music] was dead. [snorts] Relieved after you killed her. [music] That question is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. It was cruel. It was heartless. It was inhuman. >> You didn't just kill my mom. You tried to steal my right to grieve her. >> Ultimately, >> wow. >> Kevin is sentenced to 25 years in prison. [music] He never confessed, but prosecutors believe he killed Marcy to avoid the financial cost of divorce [music] and used his position and expertise as a paramedic to cover it up. And this [music] might have been months in the planning. From the life scan in December trying to find health issues that might make her death plausible to the real estate planning. [music] Since his arrest, Kevin and Cynthia have gotten engaged. What do you think about this? [sighs] What the [ __ ] What the [ __ ] And this [music] might have been months in the planning from the life scan in December trying to find health issues that might make her death plausible to the real estate planning. Since his arrest, Kevin and Cynthia have gotten engaged [sighs and gasps] and they will get married. That's what will happen. So that way she can get visits or maybe um they could do conj uh conjugal visits, which conjugal visits are um pretty much the trailers. They call them the trailers. Um you know, if you're a good inmate, you can um uh your your wife or whatever can come up and y'all could get the trailer or whatever for the weekend. And it's inside the prison. And um then yeah, pretty much y you guys could play house for a weekend. I I forget how long it is or whatever. It's it's a weekend, but every so so many months they can do that type of stuff or whatever. But there is benefits uh to being married to uh an inmate if you you know there's different privileges and stuff like that that a a wife can get and stuff like that or whatever, but or or you know a husband and if it's vice versa. Man, this is just some sick ass [ __ ] man. This is crazy. And then the son, you could clearly tell between the kids who was close to who? And honestly, it's shocking. I'm not going to lie, because a lot of times, you know, yeah, are are boys close with their dads, too, and stuff? Yeah. You know, but it you always think that there's that there's that stereotype out there for a reason. It's like uh or that saying for a reason, you know, daddy's little girl and mommy's boy and stuff like that. You know, those things are somewhat true, you know, in a lot of cases. But you could tell how they're divided. And I bet you after this trial, both brother and sister split right down the middle, man. Cuz how can you get up there and say you want leniency for the guy who killed the person that popped you out of their freaking wooha, you know, or got, you know, it's like that that's insane. That's, you know, I'm just like, man, I know it's a tough situation, but at the end of the day, that's your pops. You know, of course it takes two to make a child, but um he killed your mom. Like, come on. Like that's wild. Damn man. These cases been getting crazy, boy. [gasps] Oh man, not the plot twist I was expecting. Diane says, "Yeah, yeah, it's not not the plot twist I was expecting, man. But this is just jacked up, man." And now you got no choice but to get engaged and try to see him on on visits and stuff like that because you know Johnny ain't sticking around after hearing all of this. How can you stick in that family? There's no way you could stay in that family. You got the guy that you cheating on your husband with calling the mom and messaging the mom and stuff like that. So everyone is in cahoots and Johnny look like freaking he's just out there like in the wind like doesn't that's that's so messed up man. So messed up. Anyways um appreciate you guys for watching. All right. Um and that's that. So hopefully excuse me. Hopefully you guys have a good weekend. Um, you know, for those of you guys that are that have Spotify, I'm on Spotify. Um so yeah, but that's down the road or whatever, but uh you know, just to entice people to actually catch the live. You know, I know everybody can't, but you know, whatever. It is what it is. Um like I said, uh I'm going to miss next Friday. We have dinner plan. Hey, well, hey, listen. Your life don't revolve around me, okay? So, enjoy your life. You know what I'm saying?
