First of all, I love retrievers, okay? I love them. They have just a a wonderful temperament. They're great around kids, but I want you to watch this. This California couple went out and they got an alert on one of their alarm systems at their house. Turns out this guy broke into their house, starts sleeping on the floor, eating stuff out of the refrigerator, and then there's their dog, Nash. Check this out. >> police are investigating a break-in earlier this month at a home in Sherman Heights. The intruder was in the house for half an hour. >> Well, the family watched it all unfold through their security app on their phones, and they were surprised by what they saw. >> This wall is open. >> In the heat of the day, this stranger sought shelter in Dante Road. >> Look at this guy, just in broad daylight, near a street. It looks like there's a lot of cars on the street, so you know, there's there's people around everywhere. There's every house probably has a Ring doorbell camera, and it doesn't deter this guy from breaking in to these people's house. And this is another thing, too. You You got to be ready. Cuz these people people will break into your house. They don't care if you're there or not. They will hurt you so they can soak up some air conditioning. Things are going to get desperate if the truckers start, uh, you know, shutting their trucks down like I'm hearing on October 1st. Diesel prices are getting high. Food prices are getting high. People are being evicted from their uh the places that they live. They're Desperate people will do desperate things. I just hope you're prepared. That's not me fear-mongering. That's just me saying, "Hey, you better be prepared. If you don't have a personal protection device, if you don't know how to use it, maybe now's a good time to get one and learn how to use it." >> police house near the corner of 20th and J Streets. >> That window, up there. >> That window just above your eave. >> Yeah. >> Raleigh's six-camera security system recorded the break-in. The suspect used this two-story ladder hidden behind his shed to get to an open second-story window. >> And we just watched it all happen from my phone. >> The intruder took off his shoes and >> That would have been hilarious if this ladder just broke out from underneath him and he just hurt himself. But did you see what happened when that extension ladder collapsed a little bit? This rung hit this rung and kind of trapped his foot for a second. >> to get to an open second story window. >> And we just watched it all happen. >> See that right there? His foot's kind of stuck between those two rungs right there. >> from my phone. >> The intruder took off his shoes and shirt, took a seat on the bench in the foyer for a while. >> Just eating some ice cream, eating some yogurt. Could you imagine coming into this? And then somebody's so desperate that they take a, you know, a kitchen knife that they took off of your counter and just try to plunge it into your chest? >> No. >> He ate yogurt, turkey, and cheese from the fridge. >> Look at Nash. Nash is underneath the picnic table in the kitchen just watching this stranger going, "Why won't you play with me?" >> Took a nap. The alleged burglar, though, was not alone. Inside were also two of Dante's three dogs, Ollie the long-haired dachshund and Nash the 90-lb 4-year-old golden retriever. >> The dogs, like we just want to make sure that they were they were safe. >> Now, about Nash. He's more cuddler than killer. And if you break into this house, oh, he's going to stop you, all right. He's going to stop you for a belly rub or maybe a toy to play with. The evidence is in the recording. >> Look at this cute dog. >> but three times, Nash brought the intruder a toy so they could play. >> Nash was not the greatest guard dog. We thought that he was going to be barking at people and he did the exact opposite. >> Even after police arrived. Not distracted by the drama, Nash had a toy to greet them at the front door. >> Watch this. And it is at this point like my my hair started to to curl in the back of my neck and I was thinking, "Oh god, please don't let this dog get shot. This is Dogs have been shot for less than this. Remember that cute little cuddly dog? I can't remember what his name was or Peanut the Squirrel or Heehaw the the donkey? Animals don't fare well in the presence of cops unless it's a police canine and then they're protected like it's a regular human officer. But I was thinking, "Man, Nash is going to bring a ball to the to the door when these law enforcers come in and it's probably going to get a bullet to the cranium. Please don't let it happen." >> It's okay. I'll be careful. >> The suspect attempted an escape through a first-floor bathroom window. >> Stop. Turn around. Stop. Turn around. >> He was met by police in the backyard. >> I wonder if mainstream media would have actually aired this if when Nash brought the ball to the cops, the cops ended Nash's life. Do you think it Do you think this would have made mainstream local news? >> to greet them at the front door. >> Go doggy. Stay doggy. Stay. It's okay. I'll be careful. >> The suspect attempted an escape through a first-floor bathroom window. >> Stop. Turn around. >> He was met by police in the backyard, handcuffed, then taken into custody. >> And we just hope that he gets some help, honestly. >> As for Nash, he's still in the doghouse with Dante for his behavior. Dave Summers, NBC 7. >> Oh, Nash. >> Nash has no idea how close he was to losing his life. And I am That's not hyperbole, guys. Just pull up just just do a quick Google search on uh law enforcement ending the lives of innocent animals. They will shoot a little puppy who's wagging his tail. If they're coming If they're they're closing the gap too fast, that cop, you know, automatically gets an adrenaline dump and he's got to protect himself cuz officer safety is the primary goal of any kind of stop, any kind of investigation, that those animals usually lose their lives. I would I really really want to see the body cam footage of when that officer shot Heehaw. And of course we know the SWAT team is responsible for taking Peanut the squirrel and many many other dogs and cats and innocent animals have died as law enforcement was protecting and serving the life out of them. All right, let me show you this right here. This is another example of law enforcement going over the top executing unjust force and violence on peaceful people who literally have done nothing wrong. And if it wasn't for cameras, this is why you always want to record the police. If it wasn't for cameras, this guy would have he would have been put away for a little while. >> The odds! How did we get to from a traffic stop to this? That's what the man in this video wants to know, too. >> This is like a simple arguably a traffic violation, and now I have a gun in my face and I'm arrested in my driveway and my neighbors are watching. >> Kevin Finley says he was driving home after dropping his kids off at school and got stuck behind a car in the median as he tried to turn left. He told me and police he thought the car was broken down or maybe doing a U-turn, so he passed it. A Winter Springs police officer saw that and tried to pull Kevin over, but Kevin didn't notice. Video his Tesla automatically recorded shows why. >> Hats off to Tesla. I think they have like eight on-board cameras. Front, back, mirror, you know, facing both ways, both directions. And by the license plate >> There's a split-second where technically he could have seen the flashing red and blue lights, but after that curved roads and buildings hide at the unmarked police car. But here is how the officer interpreted that moment. >> He's trying to take off on me. >> When Kevin got home, he says he heard sirens outside his door and opened his garage back up to see this. >> Let me see your hands. >> When I'm gunpoint complying. >> I sat down with Winter Springs Police Chief Matt Trot. He told me he couldn't talk much about this case because of pending litigation, but we did chat about traffic stops and how to approach subjects in general. He told me, quote, "Every vehicle stop carries a significant amount of uncertainty. Officers have very little to no information about the person they're contacting. >> Now, now think about this statement right here. Every vehicle stop carries a significant amount of uncertainty. Hey, Police Chief, do you want to eliminate a lot of that uncertainty? Then stop enforcing corporate traffic laws. Stop interfering with people's life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Stop violating the Constitution. Stop infringing on people's rights and violating your oath under corporate traffic law. You can eliminate a whole lot of that uncertainty, but they won't do it because it's a revenue-generating source. And corporate traffic law is a revenue-generating scheme. That's what the drug war is. If they can't Guys, just think about this. If they can't keep drugs out of maximum-security prisons, then it's all a farce where they think that they can keep drugs off the streets. As a matter of fact, it's been proven during Prohibition and during this drug war since 1971 that drugs actually increase become cuz now it becomes more lucrative to run alcohol back from 20 to 30 1920 to 1933. It becomes more lucrative to run drugs. So, what happens is when the politicians make these laws and law enforcement officials enforce these laws, it does a couple things. It victimizes innocent people and it empowers the criminally minded. More people die because now you're fighting over a drug that you could have got under the free market, but now you got to sneak and go get it. And when you got to sneak, you you know, you you feel like a criminal. You feel like you're acting like a criminal. The cops treat you like a criminal. And because of the 15,000 hour indoctrination program called the public fool system, nearly the entire population thinks you're a criminal because they've been trained to think, well, if you transport drugs and you sell drugs and you buy drugs, then our politicians say you're bad people, so you must be bad people. Our law enforcers are treating you like bad people, so you must be criminals. No, you're not a criminal if you sell something to somebody who wants to freely buy it of their own volition. It's called a free market enterprise transaction. I don't care if you're selling a widget, a personal protection device, or plant matter that somebody wants to put into a bowl and burn and inhale. You haven't committed a crime if you haven't forced somebody to buy your stuff. You haven't committed a crime if you sell something to somebody who wants to freely give you money for it. This is ridiculous. Every vehicle stop carries significant amounts of uncertainty. Officers have very little to no information about the person they are contacting. Well, that's not true anymore because of Flock safety cameras. Flock surveillance and control cameras, now they know a whole lot about you cuz there's a whole lot of data points they can put together and find out about you before they even approach your vehicle. >> What their intentions may be or what may be inside the vehicle. When that uncertainty is combined with erratic or reckless driving, the level of concern and tension increases substantially. We hear the officer's version of that on body camera. >> And he opens the garage, so I was like, I don't know who you are or what you're doing." >> [laughter] >> I don't know who you are or what you're doing. I don't know if you've been involved in the commission of a crime, but I'm going to point my loaded firearm at you. >> told the officer over and over he didn't mean to run. He hadn't seen the lights and sirens, but the officer didn't buy it. >> I don't know if I'm going to hit him with the felony side of fleeing a lure or I'm going to hit him with all the traffic infractions. >> And that's what I despise about law enforcement. These guys can just arbitrarily ruin your life. Well, I could exercise discretion and I could let this guy go or I could slap him with these charges or I could slap him with those charges. There's nothing objective about any of this. It's all subjective. Now, if this guy who had had um done this vehicle infraction was a former or current law enforcement officer, we wouldn't even be having this discussion because they would get the preferential treatment from the thin blue line gang. But because it's you or I, they're going to determine the level to which they're going to oppress you. That's what makes it sick. >> Or I don't know if I'm going to hit him with the felony side of fleeing a lure or I'm going to hit him with all the traffic infractions. >> Do I get Do I get him Do Do I get him on the hook for a misdemeanor or should I smack him dead with a felony? >> Took two years for Kevin to get his day in court where he >> Two Two freaking years. >> could finally show this video. >> These are all very serious charges. Fleeing the police is a felony. Criminal reckless reckless driving is a misdemeanor, but up to 90 days in jail. >> After seeing the video, a judge agreed with Kevin and acquitted him before things even got handed over to the jury. >> But it could have gone either way. The judge could have gone, "Yeah, well, I'm not convinced. Looked like you were fleeing and eluding to me. Give him 2 years." >> Although the police chief could not comment on this specific case, he did tell me providing context about the inherent risk associated with traffic stops helps people understand why officers respond the way they do in potentially high-risk situations. >> It's really comforting to know that the fate of our entire lives rests in the hands of a few badged psychopaths.
