I must say, most police officers out there actually go to work, come home, try to do the best that they can, do a good job out there. But, every so often, you have that one bad officer who messes everything up and makes all cops look bad, man. So, we're going to get into this uh Buckeye officer um Carrie Carco? Carcaco? Or something like that? [laughter] Um but yeah, she's in the limelight and it's not for a good thing. >> Over here. >> She says she was 9 months pregnant when a Buckeye police officer allegedly assaulted her while she was in handcuffs. I'm ABC 15 investigator Nicole Gregg. We were the first to show you that video that has led to that officer resigning and now headed to trial. And now we have more video of what led up to all of this. >> Over here. >> That's Buckeye police officer Carrie Carcaco as she was processing this woman inside the Buckeye Police Department. >> Do you understand me? You are here because you're an ass. Now, get out. >> We're editing together these two videos to sync the surveillance video to the audio of this officer's body camera video. This video provided by Buckeye PD >> WHAT THE WHAT THE HELL >> SHOWS THE OFFICER'S arm swinging towards the woman's head. She was later taken to the hospital for a contusion and possible concussion. The officer's boss calling the encounters very aggressive and described them as definitely over the top and unnecessary. >> Yeah, um yeah, this the issue here is, you know, I'm you know, I'm all for, you know, sometimes, you know, officers definitely got to get somebody together. You know what I mean? That's one of the slogans. Going to get you together. You better act right. You know, that's that's the whole That's one of my sticks, you know? That's my whole uh thing here, but um she's not really one, she's pregnant, okay? And two, she's not like really giving a problem like that. Like you You know what I mean? To to to the point of where you should have act You would have to put your hands on somebody. And then, three, which to me is one of the most important besides her being pregnant. But, she's handcuffed. Okay? She's handcuffed. I'm not a cop, never been a cop, none of that. I come from the correction world. The prison guard world. That is the most cowardly [ __ ] you can do, man. Is to be on somebody when they're cuffed. They cannot even defend themselves. If you I'm going to keep it real with you over here. Sometimes, you got to get people together, okay? That's inmates included. It happens. It goes down. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. It go down. But, you there's still a line of respect in a way, right? It's a whole bunch of guys I worked in a male prison. It's a whole bunch of guys. Same thing out on the street, right? And you're not going to beat on somebody that can't even defend themselves or not You know what I mean? Like it's look that crazy. So, if you got a problem with somebody or problem with an inmate or whatever the case may be, why would there be a use of How you get a use of force with somebody that is cuffed? You know they're cuffed. They cannot defend themselves. Nah, man. All everything is supposed to stop. It's all It's fair game up until they're cuffed. Once they're cuffed, that's it. It's over. You know what I mean? That's it. It's over. Now, do do that happen sometimes? Are there certain officers that still beat on people or whatever or still have a use as a continued thing once they are cuffed? Yeah, it happens. But, I'm going to tell you right now, other CEOs, other supervisors, other people going to look at you [ __ ] crazy, man. One, you're jeopardizing everybody else that's there if you're if you're not if you have a partner or whatever. And then two, that's some coward [ __ ] You [ __ ] Yeah, facts. You cat, man. We call you meow. You're cat. You're cat, man. This [ __ ] is some cowardly [ __ ] boy. >> That's Buckeye Police Officer Carrie Carrico as she was processing this woman inside the Buckeye Police Department. >> Do you understand me? You are here because you're an >> This woman inside >> Like look Like look look look. Does Does this really warrant her pressing up again Like look look Look at the lady in the paint. >> Police Officer Carrie Carrico as she was processing this woman inside the Buckeye Police Department. >> Do you understand me? You are here because you're an >> We're editing together these two videos to sync the surveillance video to the audio of this officer's body camera video. This video provided by Buckeye PD. >> LET GO! LET GO! >> SHOWS THE OFFICER'S ARM swinging towards the woman's head. She was later taken to the hospital >> Wait, hold on. She said let go. So, is she Did she grab something? >> camera video. This video provided BY BUCKEYE PD. >> I CAN'T SEE IT. >> SHOWS THE OFFICER'S arm swinging towards the woman's head. She was later taken to the hospital for a contusion and possible concussion. The officer's boss calling the encounters very aggressive and described them as definitely over the top and unnecessary. But new video now shows how all of this started as a woman was pulled over for reckless driving. >> Is there any reason why you're going nearly 70 miles an hour down the road? >> I don't know. >> No reason at all? Okay, do you have your registration and insurance? Is there any reason why you don't have your seat belt on? >> Um I do actually. >> You don't actually. You see how this is here? So, it's not worn properly. So, it No, it wasn't on. >> Now watch the next 22 seconds. >> Well, this isn't my car. >> Okay, you're driving it. >> It's not my car. >> Is there a reason for the attitude? >> Yeah, cuz you have one. >> Okay. Go ahead and step on out. >> Buckle up. >> No, no. You can stay there. Face the car. Right over here. Put your hands behind your back. >> Then listen as Officer Carico goes to detain her. >> You can leave my sleeves like that. >> No, I'm not going to leave your sleeves like that. When you become a cop, you can tell me how to do my job. Until then, you can be quiet. Let's go sit in the car. >> An internal review of this encounter says when Officer Carico did a pat-down search, she ran her hand along the woman's front waistline. >> Excuse me? I'm opening the door. How do you expect get in a car with the door closed, genius? Ugh. You're right. You're gross. Go ahead and step on in. >> I'm not gross. >> Uh, yes, you are. You and your attitude stink. >> In the cop's own words, says the woman's attitude was what would take her to jail. >> So, you're taking me to jail? >> Taking her to the station. If she changes her attitude when we get to the station, then she won't go to jail. If she acts the way she's been acting, she will go to jail. >> to that exchange about a seat belt, that pregnant woman telling the officer she was wearing one, but her pregnant belly was too big, so she put the strap behind her instead of across her chest. Then as Officer Carico goes to take her to jail, the pregnant woman asks about where her seatbelt is. >> I don't have a seatbelt. What are you talking about that? >> Well, you're used to not wearing a seatbelt, right? >> The officer drives off and then you don't see it on video, but the internal report reveals that during transport, the vehicle appears to turn left, strike a curb or object, and that Officer Carico didn't stop to secure a seatbelt on her. Carico pleaded not guilty. >> Hold on. So, you uh you locked her up for not having a seatbelt, which she had the bottom Well, I'm assuming she had the bottom piece, but she had the top piece over her or whatever. Or whatever. Well, either way, you you're locking her up for not having a seatbelt, but you don't buckle her in as you're transporting. What sense does that make, man? This is horrible. This is absolutely This is horrible. >> to aggravated assault in this case and another. Her trial is scheduled for November. She is no longer with the police department, but her attorney tells us this week that they have no comment at this time. I'm investigator Nicole >> Yeah, I bet they don't have a comment. That's [ __ ] disgusting, man. Chick is pregnant. You know, it's like, what's up with you? That's a nasty odd na- nasty officer, man. Nasty. Nasty attitude. You know, and she she acts she she acts like a man. Like too man like Nah. Nah. You don't get no respect from that. Who's Who's your I was I was going to say who's your OGs, but >> [laughter] >> like we on the street, man. Who the OG? But no, uh who who who's the officers that trained you like that? Who trained you like that? Because I'm a got to be honest. There's by the book, right? You got to learn the book, but then as you go along you do your own thing, too. You know what I'm saying? And you're pretty much I was always taught like this, you know, [music] you get around guys that you vibe with, whatever. Guys that want to show you the ropes, this that and the third, and then you take you know, let's you you might take something from him, right? And then you'll take something from him, and then something from him, and then something from him. And then something from her, right? You know, bits and pieces of what they do and and stuff like that, and then you take everything that you like from each officer. And then you got to combine it, and that's kind of what you become. Right? There's different things and different techniques and stuff that certain people use that okay, I like, you know, and okay, I can see I can use that, or nah, they do it like that nah, I'm not doing that, you know, but and that's how it goes. And then the more time you get on the job, you start to become your own. But in the beginning, it's like you're more by the book. And then it goes into, you know, all right, all right, I'm going to get into my own little flow. I'm going to become my own person. So who the hell taught you this? Who the hell taught you to beat people on with that's handcuffed? Who taught you that? That's a problem within the within your police department. Somebody had to have taught you that cuz that that's Nah, man. Nah, man. Who's the people that that's looking Nah, that's that's No. No. Cuz like I said, when I was taught in correction, like we I've seen I've seen it happen. You know, I've seen it. You know, okay. You know, and then the old the the old-timers be like, nah, you don't do that. Don't do that. You got something and but maybe that's because partly I started off in a maximum security prison. So in a maximum it's a little different. I spent most of my time in a medium, but I started off in a maximum security prison and it's so different there. You know what I mean? The way it was there is man, see man, yo. It used to really go down. Like it used to really go down. CO had a problem with an inmate, they go in the back tier. Whatever, another CO will watch at the gate, whatever, and they do do do thumping it. Thumping it. Like but it's respect though. It's respect. It's respect. You gain so much respect for that. And from from other inmates and from your peers alone, you a man. You know what I'm saying? Like men got to handle what men got to handle. It it what it is. But, cuffing an inmate up and then beating on a cuffed inmate, like what? You don't get no You don't get no no points for that. Like, you are a [ __ ] cat. Straight meow. Meow. Yeah. Cat. So, this chick here sickening, man. And you doing that to a pregnant lady? So, what? She I don't know her sexual whatever, but she must not plan on having kids or what. She kind of little manly, you know what I'm saying? So, she I don't know, but why would she do that to a pregnant man? It's the man that That pregnant chick going to get a nice lawsuit, boy. She getting a nice check, boy. That's it. That's all I can say. Getting a nice check. Something healthy, too. Oh. What? This got news coverage, too? Oh, yeah. Getting a healthy check. She Listen, she don't even got to reach out to lawyers. Lawyers is reaching out to her to represent her. "Hey, can I represent?" Yeah. Easy case. This is easy, man. Easy. >> Hit the subscribe, hit the 808 slide. Craziest footage on [music] a midnight vibe. Bounce to [singing] the rhythm. Let the bassline hit. Shot got them reactions. [music]
