okay so we're out here at the 151st annual nra meeting in houston texas and we have the protesters over here and what i am to do is just find out why some people are here and that's why i wanted to ask you why are you here and what do you hope to accomplish um just raise awareness the fact that we need some at least basic gun control measures at least some basic restrictions i don't think that any civilian needs a high capacity assault rifle like an ar-15 there's no you know there's no purpose for it and i feel like you know it should be harder for people 18 year old kids can't drink but they can buy air 15s you know my five-year-old does active shooter drills in school kids are already afraid of like their own shadow at that point they're afraid of fire drills and now we're doing active shooter drills i think i think a common thing that we can all agree on is we want to keep our kids safe yeah some people say that they want to keep their kids safe by eliminating firearms like ar15s ak-47s on the other side people go well that's why i have an ar-15 or an ak-47 so that i can actually step in if somebody needs me and i'm there because let me give you one example and i'm not trying to shade this or anything but do you remember the sutherland spring shooting where that guy walked i can't remember the guy's name but he walked into the church and killed 26 people with an ar-15 and then with the news a lot of news is reported on it but they didn't uh you know they didn't play it up like other shootings but there's this guy named stephen williford not military not police or something he had an ar-15 and yeah he used the air 15 to actually eliminate the threat you saw two men shooting at each other yes sir the the other hero tells you that this killer just shot up a church he drives off he tells you to chase him you tell me you say let's go yeah did you have any second thoughts what was right through your head right then nothing get him why because that's what you do the other guy anything you can tell us about him uh you know he he's very much a hero he he acted he acted quicker than he could think as well he did absolutely the right thing which was try and take him down on the scene you know from what i know you know from what i know he was just taking a nap and heard the gunshots and reacted what kind of gun did he have he had an ar-15 so they both both the killer and the individual you drove had ar-15s um they killed the killer from what i heard had a pistol for during the fire fight right which is the the main part that i saw and then and then the guy with you the other hero had his own yes in arizona 15 yes sir and he came out uh he was barefooted he was barefoot yes yeah he had no shoes on or nothing but he was he was ready to act and the moment police got there and everything you know he did all the right things and i said oh my god somebody's shooting i ran to my safe where i keep my gun i grabbed a rifle out of the gun gun safe my daughter ran up the door and actually got in her car and drove to the corner and when she saw a man in black tactical gear she came running back in and said dad there's someone at the church in black tactical gear shooting up the church i didn't have any time because i kept hearing the shots one after another very rapid shots just pop pop pop and i knew every one of those shots represented someone that it was aimed at someone that they weren't just random shots more than likely i grabbed a handful of ammunition and started loading my magazine i ran outside i didn't even take time to put my shoes on and i ran across the street looking for it and when i i came into the neighbor's yard his dodge pickup truck was sitting right there and i noticed an suv a grey suv setting across from the church or in front of the church across the street from from my neighbor's house with a driver's side door open in the middle of the street and i didn't know it at the time but the engine was running and i'm trying to survey the situation not knowing what's going on and then i saw a man in a black tactical helmet with a sun with a dark shaded helmet on and obviously looked to me like it was bulletproof vest and he had a pistol in his hand and we exchanged gunfire what would you say to somebody who says well but i wanna i'm a peaceful person i've never heard anybody with my weapon why should i be penalized for what somebody else does no one's penalizing you i mean listen the right to own a gun is still there if you're if you're a law-abiding citizen with no issues and you want to get guns you don't need an ar-15 to protect yourself if you're a good shot you could you could easily play with it with a handgun or a rifle or like a regular shotgun or whatever you don't need like that kind of a weapon because that is meant to [Applause] there's no reason to have that kind of rapid fire if you are really just trying to protect people and so if you want to open carry a hand then it's all over texas that's not the issue the issue is that these people kids or other people can get a a high capacity assault rifle or something of that nature and walk in and just mow people down mow kids down and that's the problem i mean i'm not talking like full gun control and you don't it may not even work and i think the the key concept here is try right put the minimum effort require background checks that's not imprinting on your mic you should do a background check to get an abortion there's a waiting period there's they've removed abortion clinics so do you think there should be a waiting period for abortions i'm not going to get into that it's not what we're here for but i mean they're putting all these restrictions on women's choices for their bodies so using the same logic put the same restrictions on gun ownership and personally just just touching on the abortion thing i don't think the government should be involved in that period but i mean they're using their own logic against because most people on that side are also pro-life um meaning pro-government step in and and keep this woman from doing what she wants because once that child is breathing there is there are no resources there are no protections there's no subsidized child care no paid parental leave right but to your point uh people on the gop side want the government to control the woman's body is the bottom line they want to control women's bodies when it comes to pre-born children right but they don't want to protect foreign children by limiting guns by doing some basic restrictions on guns and you know what it might not even work but again the the the main thing is is that we want to try something has to change we want change whatever that might be common sense things you know countries that that have fewer guns have fewer bad guys with guns it's kind of like nothing nobody's going to have guns but if there's less guns less can get guns there'll be less bad people with guns i mean it's a very basic common principle and that's all we're saying is that there needs to be change so are you in the group who wants ar-15s and ak-47s completely banned i don't think there's a reason for them i don't know all the statistics on them and i don't know whether they should be completely banned but i know that there needs to be much higher especially for guns like that it's like you can buy it you can buy a knife right but you keep like buying a you know katan sword or whatever you can't just buy that at any knife shop you gotta go to a specialty store you know so ar15 those shouldn't be available there should be one place maybe in the state you can get it and there has to be a waiting period at least for that some kind of restriction because right now there's just none there's none texas yeah i'm one of those people who i don't trust the government and i don't trust politicians do you trust government politicians listen it's a uh it's a rock and a hard place because on one hand you have to a little bit you have to a little bit but on the other hand it's they've they've made it apparent that you can't trust them because every time they say one thing they do another always and so no matter if it's democrat or republican right and so on so i don't fully you can't fully trust them but well if you can't fully trust them you can't trust them at all right well this is the thing though like i don't trust ted cruz do you oh my god do you trust nancy pelosi no i think i don't trust most of them here's here's the thing though the reason i'm asking this question is if we don't trust government if we can't put our trust in government then who do we want to uh levy these assault weapons bans we need to the thing is everyone needs to vote and the thing is vote for politicians we don't trust well here's but see it's i'm saying it's a rock and a hard place because right now the us is a two-party system okay the green party is not a a viable option the green party really only splits the democrat vote to be honest with you and both parties are bought and paid for yes of course yes of course so there's there should be some reform on funding there needs to be a lot going on so right now the change is going to be slow so you so i've always said people that don't that haven't won a vote at all in the past over the last few years i was a political science major in college i was always active i mean when bush ran against gore i lived in florida i was a free volunteer for war and a paid volunteer for bush because i needed some money i was broke and i was like i i enjoy the political process as a college student and now it's like you know what you vote for the lesser evil because you have to if you don't vote it's a vote for the worst part well now if you don't vote you haven't voted for evil and if you do vote and that person breaks his promise which they always do then you're responsible for the legislation they enact you don't vote at all if you don't vote at all then the people who are the most extreme are always going to vote and if you're that how do we get out of the cycle of psychopaths ruling us then it's you know what like i said it can't be quick none of that is ever quick those changes can't happen overnight so you've got to at least get out and vote you need to get involved in the political process and vote for your unless you're evil vote for a better candidate work on campaigns and let me make your voices be heard but if you don't vote then the the worst of the two evils will always be elected any politicians any government in any country but aren't they being elected anyway whether we vote or not in every single country yes but at the same time things like beethoven is running again right he is not the savior of all of texas problems i think it's elected he might not actually effectuate a ton of change he might gain an inch whereas we've lost a mile in the last decade he might gain a niche not enough but at least it's something he's going to control things that everyone wants it's not enough it's not perfect but it's something and that's what we have and unfortunately it can never be perfect you can never get everything you want you have to just keep going and it's the little steps what if an innocent person doesn't want to be controlled though what if they just want to be free left alone hey i've got my ar-15 i've got my dog and i've got my girlfriend i'm happy you know then you know what you then i wouldn't complain when when your lives are at risk and your children's lives are at risk when people who have been in power get worse and you have done nothing to to go against it if you do nothing if you don't ever get involved because you don't trust anybody then you know you are you are you are letting you are actively being involved in the and everything going down because it's going down right now if you don't vote for the the lesser evil it's going to keep going down it's we got to gain an inch but we're still losing a mile we do agree that voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil right it's kind of like you're backed in a quarter what do you do right yeah there's this there's this uh do you have to go i'm trying to get through uber and um okay i've been trying to like i don't know if uber's like down for some reason um i'm worried it's because i'm too close to the protest it could be because there's a lot of people using their cell phones out there it goes like that in washington i actually do need to get going but i just saw the white coats and i have a friend she's supposed to be with the doctors all right let me let me just say one thing i think we can agree on that this right here it's never right to initiate unjust force and violence on peaceful people haven't done anything wrong correct it's never it's never right for a man to initiate force or violence on another person i want to see what you guys think and why just like i interview these guys over here i want to i want a first blush man on the street interview with people who know what they're talking about that's it that's all my channel's about i'm not here to disrupt but to some mexican people about the brown babies or did you talk to some black people about the black elderly people that were gunned down with the same style right i don't care what color people's skins are make sure you get those opinions too i i love i love all people thank you i'm sorry but i actually do need to find an uber so i'm going to go try to keep walking to see if i can get one okay thanks for thank you thanks for your time but but please i really i again i i'm just trusting that you guys aren't going to be like you know what some people assume so just i hope i hope you're not going to twist anything here's right here's here's what i'm all there's a guy named francis bostyat he lived like a couple hundred years ago he said the state is that great fiction by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else i would never make you do something that you didn't want to do and i would never vote for somebody to make you do something you didn't want to do it's not the government's job i don't want them to be powerful i want the people to be powerful but at the same time like you know any country that works there's government is something that is needed because mod rule i'm a student of political science mob rule doesn't work fewer the pure democratic principles of essentially like pure majorities don't always work and so there doesn't be a government but i mean like it's reasonableness at the end of the day it's reasonableness you might not like it but you've got you need to get involved and at least have some vote reasonably you need to vote if you don't vote it's you're going for the worst parts all right i hear what you're saying thank you i appreciate it have a good day [Music] you
