now very around 7:41 p.m. on December 17th 2023 officer Aaron subbert with the Verona Police Department observed the driver of a 2007 Ford Focus making a wide turn while turning onto Lakeside Avenue after driving eastbound on Bloomfield Avenue the driver was also using a wireless device officer subbert made a u-turn proceeded Southbound on Lakeside Avenue and observed the driver failing to stay within the lane boundary he activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and the driver pulled over on Lakeside Avenue near Cunningham Drive oh okay I'm sorry to hear that here let me device and swerving across Lanes Ashley told the officer that her boyfriend was sick and that she was headed towards the Caldwell Diner even though she was going in the opposite direction she was asked where her boyfriend lives and she initially responded by saying that he lived at the Verona Tavern before stating that he lived at the Verona Inn the Verona Inn is actually a bar in Verona New Jersey Ashley admitted to consuming one shot at the Verona Inn before driving but she would later admit to having to shots at the bar offer officer subbert asked Ashley for her documents and Officer Clark arrived on scene to assist as he returned to his patrol [Applause] car going the Cal wall interesting why like no dry a us right you what I mean you don't need a if it's flat I mean it's I know and perform field sobriety exercises after Lieutenant sheeper arrived on scene the first exercise was the horizontal gaze nystagmus hgn test during the hgn test officer subbert observed the lack of smooth Pursuit distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 de the second exercise was the walk and turn test during the walk and turn test Ashley failed to touch Heel To Toe on each step took an incorrect number of steps and failed to turn the final exercise was the one leg stand test and Ashley failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion while displaying a lack of balance so it was just the one shot right just the one shot okay uh what's your highest level of Education your highest level of Education you go to high school or college college for like one semester okay did you finish High School yes sa have a high school diploma yes okay you going to understand the English language yes okay do you have any problems with your eyes no any ongoing medical conditions I should be aware of okay do you wear glasses or contacts no um okay are you diabetic no no okay all right so um just take one more step forward so we're off the erratic driving the odor of alcohol her admission to consuming alcohol before driving and her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises officer subber placed Ashley under arrest for driving Under the Influence her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John's law she was transported to the Verona Police Department for further processing your back for me give you some summonses for the uh the motor vehicle violations I observed you'll get a court date and then we'll let you call somebody to come pick you up [Music] [Music] what's that uh yes you can be charged for uh driving Under the Influence okay again it's just a traffic summons but it does have some big penalty to it and uh a couple other motor vehicle violations I observed okay nothing criminal it's all traffic but you will have a core date can you just write down the miles for me on the toad vehicle 60291 give it to Al cler [Music] it is what it is [Music] [Music] for 5 or 91 on the ramp ending miles 881 85.3 at the Verona Police Department Ashley was read the standard statement for motor vehicle operators and agreed to submit breath samples for testing her Alco test results indicated a back of 0.22% which was almost triple the legal limit of 0.08% after the officers were finished with their paperwork Ashley eventually released to a friend he signed the potential Sher Lighty warning form on Ashley's behalf she was issued the following summonses operating Under the Influence reckless driving careless driving use of handheld wireless telephones traffic on Mark Lanes improper turn and open container of alcohol or unsealed cannabis in motor vehicle okay this thank you all right one more time just face the other side from me you can yeah all right way right right don't yeah know do you let your boyfriend know you're going to be a little late cour records indicate that on June 13th 2024 Ashley was found guilty of operating under the influence and the careless driving citation was downgraded to obstructing traffic as a result of being found guilty Ashley's had to use an admission interlock device for 3 months spent 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center and pay a total of $880 in fines the other five citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement my phone is wherever it is I have no clue honestly but I feel very bad though this is not me I feel very bad believe I feel very bad but unfortunately is what it is right now you guys do what you do I got itust I got it we'll get you out here as soon as possible yeah is I got it
